Starting point is 00:00:00 Today we're talking about amid economy, controversial weapons developments, more on the new Threads app, and other top news for Monday, July 10th. Stay informed while remaining focused on Christ with The Pour Over. Here's the verse of the week. A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. Proverbs 15, verse 1. Let's start with some espresso shots. The U.S. jobs market got another report card. This one reads,
Starting point is 00:00:33 Sometimes struggles to meet expectations. Employers added 209,000 jobs in June, less than the expected 240,000. This continues a 30-month streak of job growth but is also the fewest number of jobs added during that streak. Here's some other stats. Unemployment fell from 3.7% to 3.6%. Prime age labor participation, the amount of people ages 24 to 54 who are working, rose to 84.5%, the highest level in 21 years, and wages increased 4.4% from a year ago. Investors are worried the room temperature report was still warm enough for the Federal Reserve to begin raising interest rates again later this month. The United States officially has no chemical weapons stockpiled. The last of the U.S.'s stock of 30,000 tons of chemical agents, like mustard gas, was destroyed in Kentucky last week, fulfilling a 1997 treaty. The milestone marks the closing of a chapter of warfare that dates back to World War I. Speaking of dangerous weapons, President Biden announced Friday that the U.S. would provide Ukraine with cluster munitions, bombs that disperse smaller bomblets and have been banned by over 100
Starting point is 00:02:18 nations. The ban, which is recognized by two-thirds of NATO countries, is due to a high dud rate. A percentage of them don't initially detonate, potentially triggering and harming civilians years later. Germany, the UK, and Spain have come out against the decision which Biden has defended, saying that Ukraine is running out of ammunition. Pray for the peaceful end to all conflicts worldwide. Even as we wait for God's kingdom to come in full for the day when, as Micah says, no one will train for war any longer. Micah 4, verse 3 says, They will beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will not take up sword against nation, nor will they train for war anymore.
Starting point is 00:03:07 Twitter's got a new app on its tail, Feathers. Despite being the new social media kid in town, Zuckerberg's Twitter alternative, Threads, scored twice as many initial downloads than Pokemon Go and Call of Duty Mobile, the previous record holders for biggest app launch. Zuck announced that more than 70 million people have made accounts as of Friday and promised to build out the app quickly. It's currently a bit threadbare, with minimal features and no ads. Broadly speaking, Threads is pulling in a very general audience while Twitter attracts a more news-focused crowd. Whichever microblogging app gets your thumbs-up emoji,
Starting point is 00:03:45 consider that it may be legally binding. A Saskatchewan farmer responded to a contract with a texted thumbs-up instead of a signature, and a Canadian judge told him, sorry, but that's binding. Here's a verse to consider no matter what social media site you're scrolling. May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart

Kennedy Jr.'s presidential campaign raised $3 million in the final three days of the second quarter.
