Starting point is 00:00:34 The 49-page indictment charges Trump with 37 felonies related to classified documents found at Mar-a-Lago. 31 counts of willful retention of national defense information, three counts It also names his longtime personal aide, Walt Nauda, as a co-conspirator, charging Nauda with six felonies. first 27 pages read sort of like a story, alleging that Trump personally ordered classified documents, including details about the United States' nuclear capabilities, be kept after his presidency. It details two different events where Trump reportedly showed documents he knew were classified to people without security clearances, and includes pictures of boxes with classified information stored in various corners of Mar-a-Lago, including piled in a bathroom. Former President Trump called the indictment a political hit job, denied wrongdoing, and accused the Department of Justice of having a double standard.
Starting point is 00:01:32 Many House Republicans, including Speaker McCarthy, have come to his defense, calling the indictment politically motivated and drawing comparisons to oppressive tactics in nations like Bolivia, Venezuela, and Nicaragua. Senate Republicans, however, have largely remained quiet. Trump is scheduled to appear in federal court in Miami on Tuesday, where he's expected to plead not guilty. Special Counsel Jack Smith has promised a speedy trial. Culturally hot topics like former President Trump's indictments frequently make people think, speak, and act poorly, including us. Starting point is 00:02:47 The children became the focus of a massive rescue effort that included Colombia's military and indigenous tribes, two groups usually at odds, who retained hope the kids were alive after finding small footprints. Finally, a rescue dog found them roughly three miles away from the wreckage. Reportedly very weak, the children were airlifted out of the jungle and are receiving medical treatment. The 81-year-old, better known as the Unabomber, was serving out four life sentences plus 30 years in federal prison. Kaczynski infamously sent at least 16 bombs through the mail between 1978 and 1995, killing three people and injuring 23 others.
