Let's get started with some espresso shots. Despite sanctions, boycotts, and near worldwide condemnation, Russia continues to advance into

the heart of Ukraine. The city of Mariupol suffered 22 bomb strikes in under 24 hours, which brings the city's self-reported death toll to 2,200. Officials report that Russians now occupy the city and have abducted the mayor. Kiev, Ukraine's capital, braces for a ground invasion as masses of Russian troops regroup just 15 miles outside the city. Additionally, Russian missiles struck a Ukrainian military base near Lviv, just 11 miles from Poland, which killed 35 people this weekend. While still refusing to implement a no-fly zone, the U.S. reiterated its commitment to defend, quote, every inch of NATO territory and authorized an additional $200 million in funding to resupply the Ukrainian military. For instance, Taiwan is watching China watch Russia. Taiwan views itself as a sovereign nation, but China views it as a rebellious province they can reclaim at any moment. Many people in Taiwan are worried that Chinese President Xi may be inspired by his ally Putin and decide now is that moment. China warned that

if they do attack, anyone who supports Taiwan militarily would face, quote, the worst consequences. The U.S.'s stance is complicated, but it's generally pro-Taiwan. The Pentagon is also keeping an eye on other foreign military action, like Iran claiming responsibility for a barrage of missiles that struck near a U.S. consulate in Iraq. They're also watching North Korea's, quote, serious escalation in missile testing. NCAA Conference Championships are over and March Madness is here. The number one seeds for this year's men's tournament are Arizona, Baylor, Kansas, and Gonzaga, who's also the number one seed overall. Meta may soon be labeled an extremist organization by the Russian government, joining an exclusive group that includes the Jehovah's Witnesses, Al-Qaeda, and Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny's movement. This comes after Meta announced it would temporarily allow users in Eastern Europe to call for violence against Putin and Russian soldiers in Ukraine. The Census Bureau checked their work and found that while their count of the total population was quite precise, their count of specific demographics had some room for improvement. The Bureau said its counts were off for Native American populations by 5.6%, Latino populations by 5%, and Black populations for 3.3%. White populations were

overcounted at 1.6% and Asians at 2.6%. Pro tip, start measuring your gas by the half gallon so you'll feel better about the price. On average, gas prices have risen 79 cents per gallon in the last two weeks and are currently sitting at a record $4.43 per gallon. Gas is most expensive in San Francisco. It's running at $5.79 a gallon and cheapest in Tulsa. It's $3.80 there. Mainland China reported 1,807 COVID cases on Saturday and cue massive lockdowns. This is their highest figure in two years and triple Saturday's count, but a very small number compared to other countries in absolute terms.
