Today we're bringing word from the Middle East.
Plus, we're talking about Trump's trial, the economy, and other top news for Monday, November 6th.
Stay informed while remaining focused on Christ with The Pour Over today.
Here's the quote of the day.
Honesty is often very hard.
The truth is often painful.
But the freedom it can bring is worth the trying.
Mr. Rogers. Let's get started with some espresso shots.
The Israel-Hamas war is nearly one month old. Israel has taken responsibility for striking an
ambulance outside a Gaza City hospital Friday, claiming it was transporting healthy terrorists.
Palestinian authorities said 15 people were killed in the strike, and Hamas says it'll block foreign
nationals from evacuating until Israel can guarantee ambulances safe passage to Egypt's
Rafah border crossing, which closed again over the weekend. Later Friday, the leader of Lebanon-based terrorist group Hezbollah
made his first public remarks of the war.
He praised Hamas's October 7th attack,
blamed the U.S. for the violence raging in Gaza,
and left the door open for increased Hezbollah involvement.
Hoping to temper the threat of regional escalation,
U.S. Secretary of State Blinken met with the Palestinian Authority President
and Iraqi Prime Minister during unannounced visits to the West Bank and Baghdad yesterday.
War and the resulting tragedies are a terrible reminder that the world is not as it should be.
Seek peace where you are,
repay evil with good, and trust the Lord to end all war in his perfect timing.
Romans 12 verses 18 through 21 says,
If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. Do not take revenge,
for it is written, It is mine to avenge, I will repay, says the Lord.
Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
Former President Trump will take the stand in his New York civil trial today.
The presiding state judge has already ruled that Trump, his adult sons,
and the broader Trump organization committed fraud by inflating the value of assets to snag better interest rates, meaning the trial is only to determine damages.
New York's Attorney General Letitia James is seeking $250 million and to ban the defendants from doing business in the state, forcing the sale of
Trump Tower and other properties. Last week, No. 45's sons, Eric and Don Jr., testified that all
financial statements were prepped by an outside accounting firm, and they trusted them to be
accurate. The former president's legal challenges do not appear to be hampering his 2024 campaign.
Recent polls show he leads President Biden in five of six key swing states.
Here's a verse to consider when you find yourself glued to your newsfeed.
Seek to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business, and to work with your own hands,
as we commanded you,
so that you may behave properly in the presence of outsiders and not be dependent on anyone.
1 Thessalonians 4 verses 11 and 12.
After 18 months of the Federal Reserve having to crank the AC,
it seems the labor market may finally
be cooling off. The Labor Department reported the U.S. added just 150,000 jobs in October,
fewer than expected and a sharp decline from September's 297,000 new jobs.
The health care sector led the charge, adding 58,000 new jobs, followed by government, 51,000, and construction, 23,000, while manufacturing lost 35,000 jobs due to the autoworkers' strike.
Overall, the unemployment rate increased from 3.8% to 3.9%.
percent to 3.9 percent. In the BC years, before COVID, rising unemployment and lower-than-expected job growth would generally have been disappointing news. But today, investors view it as another step
towards lowering inflation and avoiding additional interest rate hikes. All major
stock indexes jumped on the news, capping a strong week.

As Christ followers, we don't have to let eternally insignificant things like the ups and downs of the market control us. Seeking to steward money well is a good thing,
even as you keep your focus on the giver rather than the gifts. 2 Corinthians 8 verse 9 says,
For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ,
that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you through his poverty
might become rich. Today's episode is sponsored by Haya. While most children's vitamins are just
candy in disguise, Haya is made from a blend of 12 farm-fresh fruits and vegetables and supercharged with 15 essential vitamins and minerals.
All of the good, none of the bad.
That is excellent, but let's be real.
The best part is convenience.
Haya arrives straight to your door on a pediatrician-recommended schedule
and gives your kiddo everything they need in just one vitamin per day.
Basically, Haya does everything but need in just one vitamin per day. Basically,
Haya does everything but chew this thing for little Timmy. And some days, that's the level of service we need. So parents, get 50% off your first order with code POROVER when you try Haya
today. Find the link in our show notes. In other brews, here's a rapid round of updates. Friday night, a 5.6 magnitude
earthquake killed at least 157 and injured 375 in a remote western district of Nepal.
Many homes in the area are made by stacking rocks and logs
and were not able to withstand the earthquake,
leaving thousands of people homeless.
Rescue and relief operations are underway.
Friday, a federal appeals court upheld Illinois' Protect Illinois Communities Act, a ban on certain high-capacity, semi-automatic weapons passed in the wake of last year's Highland Park shooting.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court will decide the constitutionality of a Trump-era ban on bump stocks, modification devices allowing semi-automatic weapons to fire more like automatic weapons.
Amazon founder Jeff Bezos announced he's leaving his longtime home of Seattle for Miami
to be closer to his parents and the operations of his space exploration company, Blue Origin.
He'll live on a barrier island known as the Billionaire Bunker,
where the median house price is $49.5 million. Subtle.
The Senate confirmed new top officers for the Navy and Air Force in 95-1 votes,
giving the Joint Chiefs their first female member, Navy Admiral Lisa Franchetti,
and first full slate of confirmed officers since July.
Senator Tommy Tuberville continues to oppose bulk military promotions
in protest of the military's abortion travel policy, despite growing criticism from fellow Republicans.
policy, despite growing criticism from fellow Republicans.
The fractured Republican-controlled House passed a plan to provide $14.3 billion in aid to Israel,
offsetting the costs with cuts to the IRS. Passing anything is a symbolic victory for Speaker Mike Johnson, but Democrats say this bill is dead on arrival in the Senate.
Johnson wants a second bill to couple Ukraine aid
with U.S. border funding.
And that's all we have for today.
