Today we'll be talking about unpredictable midterm elections, a stock market belly flop,
developments in Ukraine, and other top news for Monday, October 10th.

Here's the verse of the week.
Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin.
Psalm 51.2
Let's get started with some espresso shots.
Let's get started with some espresso shots.
In case you've missed the yard signs, there are less than 30 days until the 2022 midterm elections.
Midterms means there's no presidential election, but one third of the Senate and the entire House of Representatives is up for grabs. Currently, Democrats control both the House and the Senate, with Vice President Harris's vote breaking the 50-50 tie in the Senate.
House and the Senate, with Vice President Harris's vote breaking the 50-50 tie in the Senate. But on November 8th, Republicans are favored to take back the House, while Democrats are slightly favored to
hold on to the Senate. The Georgia Senate race could tip the scales for either party, and it's
getting heated. The ex-girlfriend of football star and Republican nominee Herschel Walker claims he
paid for her to get an abortion and has the receipts to prove it. Walker, who is vocally
pro-life, flatly denies the claims.
Republican leaders have largely stuck by his side.
Voting is an important and powerful way to create change,
but as Christians, our hope is never contingent
on the outcome of an election
or the success of a political party.
Regardless of whether your candidates win or lose,
Jesus remains king.
Hebrews 13, eight says,
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.
Stock markets performed a now-familiar belly flop on Friday, dropping nearly 3%
and erasing gains from earlier in the week. The reason for this dip is a bit odd. The latest
jobs report was released and investors are afraid it was too good? Specifically, the U.S. economy added 263,000 jobs in September
and unemployment dropped to 3.5%.
Workers' pay rose 5% on a year-over-year basis.
These numbers show the labor market is starting to cool off
but remains very strong,
an indication that the Federal Reserve's aggressive measures
aren't slowing the economy and taming inflation as quickly as hoped.
In other words, expect more big interest rate hikes. Belarus is taking a different approach to combat inflation.
President Lushenko has banned it. Effective last Thursday, all price increases are, quote,
prohibited. Our ultimate purpose is to glorify God, something that's difficult to do when times
are bad and easy to forget to do when times are good. Philippians 4.4 says,
Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say
it again, rejoice. Sometimes you don't like to hear biblical words in the news. President Biden
said the world is the closest it's come to a nuclear Armageddon since the Cuban Missile Crisis
60 years ago because the Russian military has been, quote, significantly underperforming.
Armageddon is a word found in
Revelation 1616, which has come to reference a cataclysmic event causing immense bloodshed.
But you can put down your iodine tablets. The security community says there's no evidence
that Putin has imminent plans to use nukes. Meanwhile, the Kerch Bridge, which connects
Crimea to Russia and serves as a key supply route for the Russian military, was the site of a
dramatic explosion that left three dead on Saturday. In what's seen as a retaliation, Russia targeted a large
apartment building in Zaporizhia, Ukraine, killing at least 12 on Sunday. War is devastating, but
followers of Christ can look forward to a day when all will be made right, when God will bring about
justice for every wrong and every tear will be wiped away. Revelation 21.4 says,
He will wipe away every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more. Grief,
crying, and pain will be no more because the previous things have passed away.
This podcast is brought to you by Dwell. Let's all agree on something. Watching the movie is
not basically the same thing as having read the book. But what about listening to the audiobook?
Yes, there's something magic to sitting down and turning pages, but audio can be amazing. Just look at Dwell. Dwell is an audio
first Bible app that is so much more than just an audio version of the Bible. They offer scriptural
playlists that are themed, like sleep to the goodness of God, background music, listening
plans, different translations, a read-along feature, and so much more. Dwell is audio done
excellently, as shown by 28,000 reviews and an

Round 1 of the New Look MLB playoffs wrapped up last night. Saturday's highlights include Cleveland's walk-off home run in the 15th that eliminated Tampa 1-0,
and Seattle was down 8-1 but came back to win 10-9 over Toronto.
The next round starts on Tuesday.
Five months after the mass shooting at Robb Elementary School,
the Uvalde School District suspended its entire police staff.
The district will reportedly
hire a new police chief and overhaul the department's processes, and they're hoping
to enlist the help of Texas Department of Public Safety to serve campuses in the meantime.
The government knows how much you hate receiving cards without a check. 16 states,
including California and Florida, cut additional STEMI checks to qualifying residents.
Californians' money comes from the state's record $97.5 billion budget surplus.
The FBI reportedly has enough evidence to prosecute President Biden's son Hunter for
tax fraud and lying on paperwork to buy a gun. A lawyer for Hunter says they've had no contact
with federal agents and called any leak about a potential prosecution, quote,
contact with federal agents and called any leak about a potential prosecution, quote,
illegal, inaccurate, and biased. Nobel Peace Prizes were awarded to an imprisoned activist in Belarus and two human rights organizations, one in Ukraine and one in Russia, who were
described as, quote, champions of democracy and peaceful coexistence. The awards were a slap to
Russia and Belarus, who said that recent choices have become so, quote, politicized that, quote, Alfred Noble got tired of turning in his grave.
