Let's start with some espresso shots. Chinese President Xi Jinping plans to stick around. Yesterday, China's ruling Communist
Starting point is 00:00:33 Party's National Congress kicked off its quinquennial, once every five years, meeting. They reappointed Xi to lead the party as general secretary for five more years, a norm-breaking third term, with no end in sight. It further cements his already substantial control of the country. In 2018, the legislature removed the two-term presidential limit, paving the way for the 69-year old to rule for life. At his National Congress speech, Xi referenced China's resolve for reunification with the self-governed island of Taiwan, which Beijing considers part of its territory, and said China reserves the option of, quote, taking all measures necessary. It's a loaded statement in light of Russia's recent invasion
Starting point is 00:01:14 of Ukraine. Regardless of where you live, your age, or what person, or what political party is in power, our command is the same, love God and love others. Matthew 22, verse 37 through 39 says, love the Lord with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and most important commandment. The second is like it, love your neighbor as yourself. The White House authorized another $725 million in military aid to Ukraine, but it was privately provided space internet, not state-provided missiles, that made weekend headlines. SpaceX has donated Starlink internet to Ukraine since the start of the war, but on Friday, Elon Musk tweeted it, quote, cannot fund the existing system indefinitely and pressured
Starting point is 00:02:02 the Pentagon to foot the $20 million a month bill. Ukraine's vice prime minister quickly called Starlink essential and praised the billionaire's generosity, but others lashed out. Musk was forced to deny rumors he's talking with Russian President Putin and members of Congress suggested his, quote, games mean all Musk-related companies shouldn't be trusted with government contracts. A day later, Musk walked back saying SpaceX will continue funding Starlink. Speaking of Ukraine's infrastructure, Russian missiles damaged a power facility in Kiev, expected to cause, quote, serious consequences throughout the region. It's easy to feel helpless when reading about the war, but the Bible promises that prayer is powerful and effective, that it causes things to happen that would not have happened otherwise. Pray for world leaders. 1 Timothy chapter 2 verse 1 through 2 says,
Starting point is 00:02:50 First of all, then I urge that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgiving be made for everyone, for kings and for all those who are in authority, so that they may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity. Same phrase, different world leader. You're fired. After a little more than a month on the job, UK's new prime minister, Liz Truss, fired her close friend, Treasury Chief Kwasi Kwarteng, and replaced him with a veteran who served on three previous cabinets. She also walked back her bold economic package in an effort to calm financial markets. The package included large tax cuts, which had set British markets into a tailspin. But Truss's reversal was met with optimism by investors as both British markets and
Starting point is 00:03:36 the value of the British pound rebounded Friday. Steadying her political career will likely prove more difficult. Truss's approval rating is the lowest ever recorded for a prime minister, and a prominent leader of her own party says her position as prime minister hangs by a thread. It's human nature to grow worried when the economic future seems bleak, but God promises to provide for our every need. If he provides for the birds, we know he'll provide for us too. Matthew 6, verse 33 says, But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be provided for you.

A suspected serial killer in Stockton, California was arrested on Saturday. Police believe the suspect is responsible for six homicides and a seventh attempted homicide since July as each attack displayed similar patterns. Flames, gunshots, and explosions erupted from the notorious Evin Prison in Tehran, Iran on Sunday. Four inmates were killed at the facility, which houses political prisoners and anti-government activists. It is unclear if the incident was connected to ongoing nationwide protests triggered by the Islamic Republic's strict imposition of Sharia law. Google can handle the truth. Shares of the associatedated Shell Company jumped 14% to $18.30, but remained down significantly from their peak of $97. Described as sustained thrilling tension by baseball lovers and excruciating, mind-numbing boredom by baseball haters, the longest postseason MLB game ever, tied with three others, ended after 18 innings. Yes, two full games in one, with Houston eliminating Seattle 1-0. The National League will feature two wildcard teams, San Diego and Philadelphia, in its next round on Tuesday.
