A man broke into the San Francisco home of Speaker Nancy Pelosi and violently assaulted her husband Paul with a hammer early Friday morning. A 911 operator is being praised for dispatching a high-priority wellness check after receiving a cryptic call from the residence. When police arrived, 82-year-old Paul Pelosi was struggling over a hammer with his assailant, who was reportedly shouting, where's Nancy? Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who is second in line to the presidency, was in Washington, D.C. with her security detail, but returned home as Paul underwent surgery for a fractured skull. He is expected to make a full recovery. Prominent members of both parties condemned the assault and, more generally, the rise in threats of political violence. The suspect has been charged with multiple felonies,

including attempted homicide. While you had no control over this attack, you can control how you speak about it. Leave others with no doubt of your love for everyone involved, even for people whose actions you do not support. It is possible to condemn actions with gentleness and love. Ephesians 4.29 says, No foul language should come from your mouth, but only what is good for building up someone in need, so that it gives grace to those who hear. A Halloween everyone would love to forget. At least 153 people died and over 100 more were injured when a massive Halloween gathering near the Itaewon neighborhood, a popular street of nightclubs in Seoul, South Korea, turned deadly on Saturday night.

The costumed partygoers, who were mostly in their 20s and 30s, funneled into alleys when a surge began. People were so tightly packed that when some began to fall, the entire crowd collapsed and slid down the sloped side street, creating a crushing pile of people. Itaewon, Seoul's marquee Halloween gathering place, has long been known as a center for nightlife. South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol, who has declared a one-week period of mourning, arrived yesterday to oversee the situation. When tragedy occurs, the first and most important thing we can do is pray for God to move powerfully in the midst of the pain. Pray that pastors in the area will be able to minister with boldness to those affected. Second Corinthians 1, 3, and 4 says, Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and the God of all comfort. He comforts us in our afflictions so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any kind of affliction through the comfort we ourselves receive from God. Elon Musk officially took control of Twitter late Thursday night, tweeting,

quote, the bird is freed by way of announcement. Musk wants Twitter to become the everything bagel of apps, one that merges social media, messaging, payments, and other features similar to China's super app WeChat. He immediately fired the CEO, CFO, and other features similar to China's super app WeChat. He immediately fired the CEO, CFO, and other leaders and reportedly brought in Tesla engineers to review Twitter's code. He's also promised to reduce content moderation and reinstate banned accounts, including former President Trump's, sparking a national debate. Generally, liberals say less moderation will allow hate speech and dangerous misinformation to spread, harming democracy, while conservatives say the best thing for democracy is free speech and that current

content moderation practices unfairly target conservative viewpoints. Elon promised no changes will be made until a, quote, content moderation council with widely diverse viewpoints is formed. When discussing divisive topics such as Twitter's moderation policy, remember that how you take your stance reflects on Christ. Regardless of what happens on Twitter, God will remain in control, and we should not be willing to sacrifice relationships to win an argument. James 1, 19 and 20 says, everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to anger, for human anger does not accomplish God's righteousness. Health experts are worried about what simultaneous surges of COVID, the flu, and RSV could mean for the health care system.
