While there was some shuffling of the top 25 rankings after the first week, yes, Alabama is still number one, it was the college football playoffs board that nabbed the most headlines. The playoffs expanded from two teams to four teams in 2014 and will switch to 12 teams in 2026, although there is pressure to make it happen as soon as 2024. Lawyers for former President Trump liken the situation to, quote, an overdue library book that, quote, suddenly transformed into a criminal trial. Serena Williams, the 23-time Grand Slam champ who was ranked number one in women's single tennis for a combined 319 weeks, lost what may be her final professional match.
