Today's episode is brought to you by our lead sponsor, Crew. We're talking about the NYC mayoral Democratic candidate race, intelligence reports from the U.S. and Israel's attacks on Iran,
Jeff Bezos' Venetian wedding,
and other top news for Friday, June 27th.
Stay informed while remaining focused on Christ with the pour-over today.
This is Abby.
My job is to focus the goofball writers and run Instagram.
Here's your quote of the day.
If only there were evil people somewhere
insidiously committing evil deeds,
but the line dividing good and evil
cuts through the heart of every human being.
And who is willing to destroy a piece of his own heart?
Alexander Solzhenitsyn.
Let's get started with some espresso shots.
This is Kathleen.
My job is to make sure writers write.
I transform caffeine into content.
Zoran Mamdani, becoming Democrats' presumptive NYC mayoral nominee, has caused a political
earthquake.
Mamdani, a 33-year-old New York State representative and Democratic socialist, was polling at just 1% in January but found success with the
digitally savvy campaign that promised to freeze rent and make buses free by
raising city taxes on businesses and the wealthy and quote reject Donald Trump's
fascism. It resonated with New York City Democrats frustrated by the high cost of
city living and lack of coordinated opposition to President Trump's 2.0 agenda.
Some national Democrats have rallied behind Momdani while others seem hesitant.
Business leaders and Republicans have been loudly critical, with President Trump saying
Momdani is a quote, 100% communist lunatic.
They point to Momdani's past support for defunding police, his staunch opposition to
Israel's actions in Gaza, and other progressive policy proposals.
This is Jason.
My job is to cast the vision and hope everyone else figures out how to make it happen.
Our hope is never contingent on a political outcome.
It's much more secure than that.
Regardless of whether or not things get better or worse during your lifetime, everything
eventually ends well for followers of Christ.
Philippians 3.20 says, but our citizenship is in heaven, and we eagerly await a savior
from there, the Lord Jesus Christ. This is Nicole. My job is to help bring everyone's crazy visions to life and whatever else needs
to get done. Information from US and Israeli strikes on Iran's nuclear sites is trickling
in. Israeli intelligence suggested the damage was
very significant and President Trump said Iran's nuclear facilities were quote
obliterated. A leaked preliminary US intelligence report however claimed
Iran's nuclear program was only set back a few months. The White House rejected
the leak as quote fake news later calling the report inconclusive
and pointing to Israeli assessment.
CIA Director Radcliffe followed up by saying his agency had credible intelligence that
several key nuclear facilities were destroyed.
Iran's supreme leader claimed the U.S. did not, quote, accomplish anything significant.
Meanwhile, the Israeli-Iran ceasefire
appears to be holding for now.
Trump says the U.S. plans to chat with Iran next week
and that they may sign an agreement.
This is Stephanie.
Kathleen is both my daughter and my boss. My job is to proofread the emails
to make sure we aren't booed out of inboxes. Here's a verse to consider in the midst
of uncertainty. God is our refuge and strength, a helper who is always found in times of trouble.
Psalm 46.1.
This is Nate. I speak fluent spreadsheet and dream in pivot tables.
Venice has swapped its gondolas for yachts
ahead of Jeff Bezos' wedding.
The prime Amazonian and journalist Lauren Sanchez
are tying the knot today as part of a multi-day
$76 million celebration.
The 200 plus guest lists
includes A-listers from Oprah Winfrey to Mick Jagger. In lieu of an Amazon registry,
the couple is donating to the city in the guests honor. The high-profile
nuptials continue to draw objections both online and in Venice over their
extravagance and effect on the fragile floating city. Protesters have been taking to the not streets but canals as part of the
quote no space for Bezos campaign in an effort to disrupt the I do's.
City officials say they're quote very proud to host the quote wedding of the century.
J&L are reportedly relying on about 80% of local Venetian vendors and organizations for their big day.
This is Bailey. My job is to write Christ-verse news and give random animal facts. The world
has different priorities than God does, and many eternally insignificant things are compelling for a season.
These things may not be wrong to follow, but neither should they consume our attention.
1 Corinthians 10 says, everything is permissible, but not everything is beneficial.
Everything is permissible, but not everything builds up.
So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do everything for the glory of God.
With over 1,000 translations and every type of decorative edition, it's easy to forget
how many people can't even get their hands on a single copy of the Bible in their native
language.
That's why we've partnered with CREW.
CREW has missionaries in almost every country, but they need more Bibles.
One missionary said, I've never seen such a thirst for the Word of God in my country.
Let's quench that thirst.
For just $24 a month, you can provide three people with Bibles every month.
As a bonus, Crew will provide meals to 12 hungry individuals through their humanitarian
ministry and send you a free TPO coffee mug. CREW will provide meals to 12 hungry individuals through their humanitarian ministry

This is Emily.
My job is to make money so we can pay people.
And other bros, here's a rapid round of updates.
The Supreme Court has cleared the way
for South Carolina to strip funding for Planned Parenthood
from the state's Medicaid program,
opening the door for other states to follow suit.
The split decision touched on Planned Parenthood funding
in a roundabout way.
The case was about the nuances of who is eligible
to sue Medicaid, health
care for low income individuals that is operated by states but receives federal funding, riveting
stuff.
This is Whipple. My job is to fix broken things and grow this thing. Not all bumble relationships
make it. The dating app announced it is laying off 240 employees, about 30% of its global
workforce. The Texas-based company says it expects $40 million in annual savings from
the staff cuts, which it will invest in product development. Wall Street swiped right on the
news, sending Bumble stock up 25% Wednesday.
This is Courtney.
My job is to do a little bit of a lot of different things.
The Dallas Mavericks snagged Duke Guard Cooper flag with the NBA's number one pick, to nobody's
surprise.
San Antonio snagged Dylan Harper next, followed by Vijay Edgecomb to Philly and Khan Kanupel
to Charlotte.
The biggest surprise of the night came when Portland
swiped 7'1 Yang Henson from China at number 16, way earlier than expected.
This is Ellie. My job is to be the pour-over's makeshift publicist and find cool sponsors we
love. Faith Kipi-Yagon failed to become the first woman to run a sub-4-minute mile yesterday, but
still logged a fastest ever time of 4 minutes and 6.91 seconds.
It's not an official record because Kip Yegan, who was decked out in Nike prototypes, including
super tight shoes and a drag-reducing bodysuit, had a team of sprinters to draft from.
Roger Bannister became the first man to break the four minute
barrier in 1954.
This is Zan.
My job is to write the news and some jokes and host this podcast.
Kenya is protesting.
At least eight people were killed and hundreds injured in Nairobi on
Wednesday as anti-government demonstrations turned violent.
The protests marked the anniversary of the deadly 2024 tax-related unrest and were part of the ongoing youth-led outcries over corruption, police brutality, and rising taxes.
Kenya's Interior Minister called the unrest, quote,
terrorism disguised as dissent and an attempted coup.
That's all we have for today.
Thanks so much for listening, TPO fam.

The other day in the kitchen, I poured citrus element powder in my water bottle. My wife
looked at me and asked, when the last time was that I drank water without element? I
looked at her and couldn't even remember. No sugar, no crashes, just a science-backed
ratio of electrolytes we need to stay sharp. Honestly, it's the real MVP of the pour-over.
Stay fresh and hydrated with us.
