Target announced that CEO Brian Cornell is stepping down in February after pushing the cart for 11 years. Bullseye's new boss will be current C.O. Michael Fidelke, who climbed the ladder after starting an intern 20 years ago. Fidelke says he's committed to getting the retail chain back on Target
Starting point is 00:01:34 and quote, building new momentum. Targé's sales have been flat or falling since 2022 amid persistent inflation and boycotts from both sides of the political aisle, first for championing DEI and then for retreating from its diversity initiatives. Wall Street seems less than impressed with the inside hire. Target shares dipped 6% following the announcement. Also on a downward trend, Cracker Barrel, whose shares fell over 12% after the old country store unveiled a new, sleeker logo that removes the image of a man leaning against a barrel. Here's a verse to consider when you're feeling pressure to keep up in a fast-paced environment. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be provided for you. Starting point is 00:02:33 Each day has enough trouble of its own. Matthew 6, 33 through 34. Israel's military is not waiting to push into Gaza City. Days after Hamas got on board with the regional negotiators proposed ceasefire deal to release almost half of their remaining hostages, Israel's Prime Minister Netanyahu called for, quote, shortening the timelines on the plan defensive. The IDF has called up 60,000 reservists to accomplish its goal of deepening, quote, damaged the terror infrastructure and severing Gaza's dependence on Hamas. Hamas criticized Israel's, quote, disregard for the ceasefire proposal.
Starting point is 00:03:22 Israel hasn't responded yet. And it's, quote, brutal war against innocent civilians in Gaza City. where an estimated 1 million people are sheltering. The UN and Europe criticized the escalation, with France's President Macron saying it spells, quote, disaster for both peoples and risks plunging the entire region into a cycle of permanent war. War puts the brokenness of this world on full display
Starting point is 00:03:54 and reminds us of our world's desperate need for final redemption. Jesus came as light to shine in the darkness. Pray that the Middle East would experience the darkness penetrating light of Christ. John 1.5 says that light shines in the darkness, and yet the darkness did not overcome it. President Putin missed the peace talk progress memo. Tuesday night, Russia launched its last. largest aerial attack in over a month, deploying 574 drones and 40 missiles across Ukraine. Kiev says it intercepted 62 drones and one missile, but strikes still hit five cities,
Starting point is 00:04:42 damaging critical infrastructure, killing one and injuring 22 others, most at a U.S. owned electronics factory. The assault rippled beyond Ukraine. Under NATO's enhanced air policing, Romania scrambled two German Eurofighter typhoon jets to protect the Romania-Ukraine border. No Russian aircraft or projectiles entered Romania in airspace, and both jets returned safely. Notably, the attacks come as President Trump, President Zelensky, and European leaders have been testing diplomatic waters with the Kremlin. Russian officials have stated attempts to resolve the Russia-Ukraine war without Moscow's participation are a, quote, road to nowhere. Negotiations progress and regress, and leaders succeed and let us down. But our hope is not in presidents, policies, or even achieving earthly peace.
Starting point is 00:05:42 Put your trust in the Lord, who alone brings true justice, provision, and deliverance. Psalm 146 3 through 7 says, Do not trust in nobles, in a son of man who cannot save. When his breath leaves him, he returns to the ground. On that day, his plans die. Starting point is 00:07:43 An appeals court ruled yesterday that the damages Trump and his business associates faced for misstating the value of assets were, quote, excessive. But the divided court stopped short of overturning the guilty verdict. Number 47 called it a, quote, total victory and thanked the court for its courage. Hey, Siri, take notes. Starting point is 00:08:19 and auto-fill a text to mom with flight deets from another app. Apple users, still waiting on a smarter Siri, expect new eye models next month. The Department of Justice is probing whether D.C.'s police doctored crime stats to make the city look safer. President Trump accused the Department of giving, quote, fake crime numbers. D.C. police suspended a commander in May amid allegations of downgrading serious incidents. He's denied the allegations. The investigation is expected to expand beyond D.C.'s Metro PD. Tariff revenue does not equal rebate checks.
Starting point is 00:09:01 Treasury Secretary Bissent said tariffs may rank in over $300 billion this year. But the Trump admin is, quote, laser-focused on paying down the $37 trillion national debt before dispersing the, quote, little rebate directly to Americans, as President Trump floated previously. Meanwhile, the U.S. and EU unveiled trade deal deeds, promising better market access and fewer trade imbalances. The Federal Trade Commission wants to make it easier to skip leg day. The FTC is suing L.A. Fitness and other gym chains for making it, quote, extremely difficult to cancel memberships. Like requiring soon-to-be former gymgoers to speak with a manager in person or mail a letter, leaving millions in unwanted recurring fees. L.A. Fitness says, quote, the allegations are without merit.
