Starting point is 00:00:00 Today's episode is brought to you by our lead sponsor, Crew. Today, we're talking about a deadly terror attack in Moscow, Princess Catherine revealing she has cancer, a very brief government shutdown, and other top news for Monday, February 25th. Stay informed while remaining focused on Christ with The Pour Over today. Here's the verse of the week. And the effect of righteousness will be peace,
Starting point is 00:00:25 and the result of righteousness, quietness and trust forever. Isaiah 32 17. Let's get started with some espresso shots. Russia is reeling after a terrorist attack killed at least 137 people near Moscow on Friday. Video footage shows gunmen bursting into a concert hall, opening fire and throwing explosives that set fire to the building complex. ISIS claimed responsibility, saying the attack was part of their ongoing war against countries they accuse of opposing Islam.
Starting point is 00:00:58 The U.S., which earlier this month warned the public to avoid large gatherings near Moscow, saying it expected a terrorist attack on March 7th, two weeks ago, said Saturday that ISIS bears sole responsibility for Friday's attack. Russia isn't so sure. It arrested 11 suspects and suggested they had ties to Ukraine. Earlier on Friday, Russia unleashed its largest attack on Ukrainian infrastructure since the war began, killing five people and knocking out power for over one million.
Starting point is 00:01:32 As we mourn violence and pray for peace around the world, believers are reminded of how good the news is of Jesus' coming kingdom. His spirit offers supernatural peace in our hearts today, and His return promises peace in a renewed earth forever. Isaiah 65, 17 and 25 says, See, I will create new heavens and a new earth. The wolf and the lamb will feed together. The lion will eat straw like the ox, and dust will be the serpent's food.
Starting point is 00:02:01 They will neither harm nor destroy on all my holy mountain, says the Lord. After weeks of seclusion and scrutiny, Catherine, the Princess of Wales, broke her silence in a video statement Friday. Catherine announced that tests following her abdominal surgery in January found that she has cancer, and she is now in the early stages of preventative chemotherapy. The 42-year-old princess acknowledged the challenge of the past few weeks, thanked her medical team, and explained that she needed time to recover and reassure her three young children that she will be okay. The future queen asked for time, space, and privacy, and the palace is not expected to release further details about the kind or stage of her cancer. Her announcement comes on the heels of King Charles III's own cancer diagnosis in February.
Starting point is 00:02:55 Both of the British monarchy's senior members are stepping away from public duties during treatment. God, our rock, be a fortress to us in these moments of fear and uncertainty. When unwelcome news shifts our footing and reminds us of our frailty, still our spinning souls and be with us. Psalm 86, 5-7 says, You, Lord, are giving and good, abounding in love to all who call to you. Hear my prayer, Lord, listen to my cry for mercy. It was chaotic on Capitol Hill this weekend for all the usual reasons. Congress passed a budget in the wee hours of Saturday morning after late-night negotiations, sending the legislation to President Biden's desk just hours past the midnight deadline. Biden signed it into law, funding the government until
Starting point is 00:03:56 October. The brief and technical lapse in funding had no practical impact. Not everyone is happy. Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene filed a motion to vacate against Speaker Mike Johnson, who she says betrayed Republicans by working with Democrats on the $1.2 trillion spending bill. Greene called her motion a warning. No other Republicans have signaled
Starting point is 00:04:17 that they support ousting Johnson. Meanwhile, Representative Mike Gallagher announced he is resigning his seat on April 19th, which will leave House Republicans with one vote majority. Here's a verse to consider when life or government feels chaotic and unstable. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. Hebrews 13, eight. With over 1000 translations and every type of decorative edition,
Starting point is 00:04:50 it's easy to forget how many people can't even get their hands on a single copy of the Bible in their native language. This is why we've partnered with Crew. Crew has missionaries in almost every country, but they need more Bibles. One missionary said, I have never seen such a thirst for the Word of God in my country. Let's quench that thirst.
Starting point is 00:05:11 For just $24 a month, you can provide three people with Bibles every month. As a bonus, Crew will provide meals to 12 hungry individuals through their humanitarian ministry and send you a free TPO coffee mug. Simply text TPO to 71326 or visit give.crew.org slash TPO. Starting point is 00:05:48 Available to U.S. addresses only. In other brews, here's a rapid round of updates. The DOJ says green-bubbling Android users is part of a pattern of illegal anti-competitive behavior by Apple. A new antitrust lawsuit also attacks Apple for high developer fees on the App Store, limits on third-party apps, and difficulty leaving the Apple ecosystem. Apple bit back, stating the lawsuit sets a dangerous precedent in allowing the government into people's technology. The UN Security Council rejected a resolution calling for an immediate and sustained ceasefire in Gaza along with the release of all hostages held by Hamas. In a major shift, the resolution was proposed by the United States, which blocked previous ceasefire resolutions, and was vetoed by China and Russia, which backed previous ceasefire resolutions.
Starting point is 00:07:04 Over 100 migrants broke through razor wire and knocked over guards to enter the United States near El Paso, Texas, before being arrested or brought to the country for processing. The incident comes days after an appellate court extended the pause on the new Texas law that would allow the state to deport migrants who enter illegally. It's official. Former President Trump's Truth Social became a public company through a merger on Friday, raising Trump's net worth by $3 billion. He can't sell any of the company to turn the paper value into cash for six months. Meanwhile, he owes $454 million today from his New York fraud conviction. It's unclear if he'll pay in time. And that's all we have for today. Thanks so much for listening. If you're listening on the Apple Podcasts app, give us a five-star rating and drop a review. If you're listening on Spotify,
