Starting point is 00:00:00 Today we'll be talking about the latest January 6th hearing, what is and isn't coming down the pipeline in Europe, continued arguments over abortion, and other top news for Wednesday, July 13th. Stay informed while remaining focused on Christ with The Pour Over. Here's the quote of the day. All the darkness in the world cannot extinguish the light of a single candle. St. Francis of Assisi. Let's get started with some espresso shots. St. Francis of Assisi. Let's get started with some espresso shots.
Starting point is 00:00:33 The January 6th committee hit the airwaves again yesterday. In episode seven, the Democratic-led committee focused on a, quote, unhinged late-night White House meeting in December, where advisors were, quote, screaming about election fraud and floated the idea of ordering the military to seize voting machines while White House lawyers urged the president to concede the election. Following that meeting, then-President Trump tweeted about a, quote, big protest on January 6th, ending with, quote, The committee then framed that tweet as a call to arms for his supporters, drawing on testimony from a man who pleaded guilty to storming the Capitol and another who served as a spokesperson for the Oath Keepers.
Starting point is 00:01:03 Former President Trump was live truthing the Capitol, and another who served as a spokesperson for the Oath Keepers. Former President Trump was live truthing the hearing, railing against the committee for being politically motivated and denying much of its evidence as false or misleading. Jesus showed compassion where people expected rejection, gentleness when people expected anger, and love when people expected hate. When discussing the January 6th committee, be imitators of Christ. 1 Peter 4.8 says, Above all, maintain constant love for one another, since love covers a multitude of sins. International funding continues to flow into Eastern Europe. The U.S. is sending $400 million in military equipment, including additional advanced rocket systems to Ukraine. Defense officials say the weapons will bolster the
Starting point is 00:01:44 efforts to break down Russian front lines. The package, which is the 15th from the U.S., brings the total amount of aid sent Ukraine's way to $7.3 billion since February. Iran is also prepping shipping lists. It's reportedly sending, quote, several hundred drones, some equipped with weapons, to Russia this month. The EU, though, is more concerned with what's not flowing out of Russia. The Nord Stream 1 natural gas pipeline from Russia to Germany is shut off for scheduled maintenance. With Russian pipelines supplying 40% of EU gas, European leaders fear Russia could extend the shutdown indefinitely, worsening the gas crisis that already has energy bills soaring. It's easy to feel helpless as governments spar, but the Bible promises that prayer is powerful
Starting point is 00:02:24 and effective, that it causes things to happen that would not have happened otherwise. Join us in praying for a peaceful resolution in Eastern Europe. Matthew 21, 21 says, Jesus answered them, I assure you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what was done to the fig tree, but even if you tell this mountain, be lifted up and thrown into the sea, it will be done. Arguments over abortion are diving deep into the fine print. Pro-choice groups,
Starting point is 00:02:55 most recently in Minnesota, are arguing that abortion restrictions violate their state constitutions. But in many states, they'll likely have to wait until cases work their way up to their respective state Supreme Courts for a final ruling. Meanwhile, President Biden says he's determining whether declaring a public health emergency related to Roe's overturn is legal, since federal dollars cannot be used for abortions. Additionally, the Health and Human Services Secretary declared that the Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act supersedes individual state abortion restrictions. The law authorizes providers to offer, quote, stabilizing treatment in emergencies at their quote, Though all states permit abortions to save a mother's life, concerns have been raised that doctors will delay or refuse care
Starting point is 00:03:31 while determining if a complex medical situation is indeed life-threatening. Christians must balance both conviction and compassion, fighting for what we believe is right while continuing to love and care for those who we work against. Do not allow love for one group to justify hate for another. Luke 6.32 says, if you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners love those who love them. This podcast is brought to you by Element. Electrolytes are mostly salt, so if your electrolyte drink is sweet, then, um, well, yeah. Popular electrolyte drinks, think things that end in "-ade," usually have low amounts of electrolytes in suboptimal ratios,
Starting point is 00:04:08 and they contain fillers. Element is the tasty electrolyte drink that gives you everything you need and nothing you don't. That means a science-backed electrolyte ratio, including 1,000 milligrams of sodium, 200 milligrams of potassium, 60 milligrams of magnesium, and no sugar.

Know your science-inclined friends aren't posting pictures of a Jackson Pollock. That's the first full-color image of space taken by the historic James Webb Telescope, and the farthest humans have ever seen. NASA says the image, quote, covers a patch of sky roughly the size of a grain of sand held at arm's length
Starting point is 00:05:00 and shows light from thousands of galaxies. held at arm's length, and shows light from thousands of galaxies. The Uber files, leaked by Uber's former chief lobbyist for Europe, detail some Uber-sketchy business practices the ride-sharing company used to grow its international business and survive government investigations. Uber acknowledged the, quote, mistakes, but they said they've been squeaky clean since founder Travis Kalanick was fired as CEO in 2017. iCloud? More like Thundercloud. The Secret Service says it was, quote,
Starting point is 00:05:29 aware of Hunter Biden's iCloud account allegedly being hacked over the weekend. Users of the online forum 4chan claimed responsibility for the breach, which showed images of the president's son with drugs and prostitutes previously discovered and circulated in 2020. A year ago, a euro was worth $1.19, but today it's worth almost exactly $1,
Starting point is 00:05:50 thanks largely to Europe's energy crisis. Parity between the euro and the US dollar hasn't happened since 2002, and it's effectively a discount on European goods. So it would be almost irresponsible not to go to Paris, right? Gas prices across the country have fallen 34 cents a gallon on average over the last month, but the savings aren't being shared equally. Prices in Indiana and Florida have fallen 48 cents, while Utah has seen a drop of just 17 cents. Economists say recession fears and reduced demand are driving the decline. That's all we have for today. Thanks
