Charles Finney Tragedy struck a 4th of July parade in the affluent Chicago suburb of Highland Park, Illinois. Three-quarters of the way through the parade, a man started shooting a high-powered rifle from a rooftop,

killing seven people and injuring 30 more. Victims' ages range from 8 to 85 years old. After an hours-long search and a brief chase Monday evening, police apprehended a 21-year-old who was charged with seven counts of first-degree murder yesterday evening. No motive has been released. Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker called the event devastating before advocating for gun reform, saying that while the Fourth of July comes once a year, mass shootings have become a weekly American tradition. The shooting comes just over a week after President Biden signed a bipartisan gun reform bill, the most significant gun legislation in decades. We live in a world marred by sin. Even while we work to

promote accountability and redemption here on earth, we can rest in the knowledge that a day is coming where sin will be impossible and regret a distant memory. Big breakup news kicked off the holiday weekend. To round out the weekend, Joey Jaws Chestnut earned his 15th title in the annual Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest. Chestnut scarfed down 63 hot dogs and buns in 10 minutes, all while donning a medical boot and having to put a protester in a chokehold mid-bite. Who said competitive eating isn't a sport? The world has different priorities than God, and many eternally insignificant things, like who's playing for what team, can be compelling for a season. The mayor of Akron, Ohio declared a state of emergency after protests of Jalen Walker's death at the hands of police turned violent late Sunday night. On June 27th, police attempted to stop Jalen Walker, a 25-year-old black man, for a traffic violation. A car chase ensued and Walker repeatedly fired a gun before jumping out of the moving car. Police chased him on foot for about 10 seconds, but when Walker reportedly turned towards them and reached for his waist, eight officers shot him over 60 times. He was unarmed when shot, but a gun was later found in his car. The local police union says officers were correct to believe there was an immediate threat of danger, but protesters say this is just the latest example

Two 17-year-old Danish people and a 47-year-old Russian person were killed. Four other people were seriously wounded. Officials believe that mental health issues were behind the attack rather than terrorism. Despicable Me is churning out sequels quicker than the Fast and Furious franchise. This weekend, Minions, Rise of Gru, the fifth installment of the series, grossed $125 million and set a new 4th of July weekend box office record, giving theaters a boost after light years less than out-of-this-world reception last month.
