Today is day two of a strike that has shut down the country's second largest school district. The union representing 30,000 non-teaching staff, bus drivers, custodians, special education assistants in the Los Angeles Unified School District are picketing for better pay. Members, most part-time, make an average of $25,000 per year and are demanding a 30% pay increase plus a $2 an hour equity wage adjustment for all. The district has offered a 23% pay increase and a 3% immediate bonus. The union said 96% of its members had authorized the strike and that the LA Teachers Union encouraged its 35,000 members to join in solidarity. The schools, which serve over 500,000 students with many at or below the poverty line,

are still providing food for students who count on school meals. Pray for everyone affected by this disagreement, but especially for the children, the ones who Jesus consistently made a priority during his ministry. Yesterday came and went without former President Trump being arrested,

but a number of preparations remain in place. Capitol Hill police and the NYPD both beefed up security measures and multiple government agencies are monitoring social media for signs of mass protests. So far, protests have been small and peaceful. The NYPD and Secret Service are partnering on the logistics of arresting a former president, who still has a Secret Service detail, and security measures for if Trump were arraigned in an open courtroom. Politicians are also weighing in on the hypothetical arrest. Speaker McCarthy has called the investigation a political witch hunt without legal merit and promised that Congress would investigate the investigators but discouraged any protests. Other Republicans and most Democrats have remained largely quiet.

When discussing divisive topics, such as the potential indictment of a former president, remember that both your stance and how you take your stance reflect on Christ. We shouldn't sacrifice relationships to win arguments. You can tell it's a split-party Congress. President Biden has finally unsheathed his veto pen. Last December, the Department of Labor rewrote its rules for retirement plan managers,

allowing them to consider environmental, social, or governance factors when making investment decisions. Then, congressional Republicans and three Democrats passed a joint resolution overturning the changes. Proponents of the now-vetoed joint resolution criticized the new rules, saying it allows retirement fund managers to put woke ideologies ahead of their duty to maximize clients' financial returns. Proponents of the now-back-in-effect rule say it's simply acknowledging these factors are reasonable for asset managers to consider. This was Biden's first veto and it appears unlikely to be overturned by Congress, but he's still got a long way to go to catch up to FDR's record of 372 vetoes.

The company said it's looking to streamline its operations amid an uncertain economic future. The three-day visit between Chinese President Xi and dear friend Russian President Putin concludes today. Discussions included a no-limits relationship and an invitation for Putin to visit Xi in China. Washington says the visit provides diplomatic cover for China's less-than-neutral position, but there have also been unconfirmed reports that Xi and Ukrainian President Zelensky will meet virtually soon.
