Today, we're talking about the latest in Israel, the end to the autoworker strike and beginning
of Farmageddon, an AI executive order, and other top news for Wednesday, November 1st.
Stay informed while remaining focused on Christ with The Pour Over today.
Here's the quote of the day, music is made not just for the church, but it's also for
the people that need to hear about the love of God.
Anthony Evans. Let's start with some espresso shots.
Israel's ground forces have advanced further into northern Gaza,
maintaining an unrelenting campaign of airstrikes. Yesterday, much of a refugee camp,
which Israel says is a Hamas stronghold, was destroyed. A UN agency in
Gaza has called for a humanitarian ceasefire, saying it's a matter of life and death for
millions of civilians, particularly children. Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu refused and
blamed civilian deaths on Hamas' decision to locate command centers in civilian locations.
decision to locate command centers in civilian locations. Stateside, House Republicans unveiled a standalone bill that would divert $14.3 billion from the IRS and send it to Israel,
sidestepping the White House's $100 billion request that included aid to Ukraine. Globally,
the war has spurred increased anti-Semitism, particularly on college campuses, and Islamophobia.
increased anti-Semitism, particularly on college campuses, and Islamophobia. Yesterday,
Cornell University confirmed the arrest of a person who called for the assault and murder of Jewish students. As war continues to rage, don't give up hope. Continue to pray for an end
to the conflict and protection for civilians. Ensure that your opinions and speech on the
matter do not contribute to any violence or hatred toward human beings that God created.
Romans 12, verse 17 through 18 says,
Do not repay anyone evil for evil.
Try to do what is honorable in everyone's eyes.
If possible, on your part, live at peace with everyone.
You know what they say, when one strike ends, another begins.
Well, they're at least saying that this year.
UAW finally reached an agreement with GM, the third of the big three automakers, ending a six-week strike that hosted President Biden at the picket line
and former President Trump at an auto parts factory.
Concessions were similar to those obtained by Ford and Stellantis,
including a 33% pay increase and five payments of $500 to retirees through 2028.
Now it's the pharmacists picking up the pickets.
Some whitecoats at CVS and Walgreens held a three-day walkout this week,
dubbed Pharmageddon on social media over harsh working
conditions and gross understaffing. Further stressing drugstores, federal regulators
announced a consumer warning yesterday for 27 iDrop products, mostly store brands from CVS,
Rite Aid, Target, etc., that could cause infection. Our hope is never contingent on a political
outcome or what's happening on any picket line.
It's much more secure than that.
As believers, we have reason to praise the incorruptible leader of leaders.
In all you do, seek to walk in his holy ways.
2 Samuel 22, verse 31 says,
As for God, his way is perfect.
The Lord's word is flawless.
He shields all who take refuge in him.
President Biden signed a hefty AI-focused executive order on Monday. If ChatGPT co-authored,
it wasn't given credit. The White House says the ambitious, first-of-its-kind order tackles safety,
equity, privacy, and more, and is based on previous commitments from tech companies. It requires companies to run safety tests and share results
with the feds and proposes industry standards like watermarking AI-generated content to prevent
a deepfake of T-Swift dumping T-Kelsey from breaking the internet. It also tasks the Department
of Labor with finding ways to minimize AI's impact
on jobs and directs the Department of Justice to investigate cases of algorithm bias.
But are the robots required to comply? Biden says the order has the force of law,
adding that he's committed to working with Congress to pursue further legislation.
Here's a verse to consider when you find yourself chatting with ChatGPT more than your co-workers.
A generous person will prosper.
Whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.
Proverbs 11, verse 25.

In other brews, here's a rapid round of updates.
The S&P 500 is up 1.7% this week after dipping into correction territory on Friday, a term for when the stock market is down 10% from a recent peak.
Meanwhile, economists disagree on what the future holds.
Some forecast a recession as soon as this quarter, while others say strong consumer spending suggests continued economic growth.
continued economic growth. The Pentagon announced it's pursuing approval to create new nuclear bombs to replace some of the U.S.'s current stockpile. The decision to produce B61-13s, which are 24
times as powerful as the Hiroshima atomic bomb, is reportedly not a reaction to a specific current
event, but rather to manage the challenges of a highly dynamic security environment.
but rather to manage the challenges of a highly dynamic security environment.
A federal judge has temporarily blocked the Biden administration from removing razor wire placed along the U.S.-Mexico border by the Texas government. Judge Alia Moses ruled that the wire
is the property of Texas, and until November 13th, when the matter goes to court, the wire
can only be removed to provide or maintain
emergency medical aid.
In an unusual nighttime launch event hours before Halloween, Apple announced a refreshed
MacBook Pro and iMac lineup powered to $1,599.
The updated iMac desktop starts at $1,299.
Time to dust off that pocket constitution.
A Colorado trial began on Monday to determine whether former President Trump should be kept off the state's 2024 ballot for violating the 14th Amendment by engaging in insurrection or rebellion on January
6th. Trump's team argues that the trial itself amounts to election interference and threatens
to disenfranchise his supporters in Colorado. And that's all we have for today. Thanks so much
