World leaders gathered in Glasgow, Scotland for COP26, the 26th climate-related summit hosted by the United Nations. Too cool for school, Russia and China both skipped the conference, although together the two countries account for

a third of all greenhouse gas emissions. So far at the conference, President Biden announced the First Movers Coalition, which consists of 30 U.S. companies dedicated to switching to renewable sources. 71-year-old Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi pledged to have net zero CO2 emissions by the year 2070, and over 100 world leaders committed to ending deforestation by 2030. The COP26 isn't without its critics, though. Some have pointed out that attendees, like President Biden, have actually called for increases in oil and coal production to deal with current energy shortages. It wasn't just state and local officials on the ballot yesterday. Minneapolis voters weighed in on a referendum to replace the police department with a public safety department, which would contain a smaller police unit. It's the most significant test of the defund the police movement. And again, no word yet. We do know some things, though. New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy, a Democrat, cruised to re-election. And former police chief Eric Adams was elected mayor of New York City. Voting is an important and powerful way to create change. But as Christians, our hope is never contingent on the outcome of an election or the success of a political party. Our citizenship is in heaven, and we eagerly await for a savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ. Philippians 3.20

Globally, new cases and deaths have been both trending down since August, but Eastern Europe missed that memo, with cases in Ukraine spiking and Russia reporting new records daily for the last month. They definitely ended some fairy tales after trapping 34,000 people in the Shanghai Disneyland Park overnight for testing in response to a single COVID case. Back stateside, New York City began enforcing its vaccine mandate and placed 9,000 city workers, which is about 2.4% of all city employees, on leave without pay this past Monday. Mayor de Blasio says there are no immediate disruptions to city services, although 18 New York City fire companies were out of commission.

The Supreme Court heard arguments on the Texas abortion ban on Monday, but the session was limited to how the law was crafted to have ordinary citizens, not the state of Texas, enforce the law.

Initial reports say that abortions in Texas have dropped 50% since the law was enacted. Coca-Cola announced it bought sports drink maker Body Armor for $5.6 billion, the polar bear's largest acquisition ever. Kobe Bryant was an early Body Armor investor, and the deal gives his estate a $400 million bump, more than his lifetime NBA earnings. SquidCoin, a crypto named after the hit Netflix series Squid Game,

is worth $0. After the anonymous creators took the money and ran following its 310,000% two-week gain. Not everyone is sympathetic towards people who were duped by the scam, given the numerous red flags, including a complete inability to sell the coin. David Beasley, director of the UN's World Food Program, said that $6 billion could solve world hunger, and called on Elon Musk, whose net worth is approaching $300 billion, to, quote, step up.

So Musk tweeted that he'd, quote, sell Tesla stock right now and do it if WFP could publicly describe how they'll solve the problem. Meta, formerly known as Facebook, formerly formerly known as The Facebook, announced plans to shut down its facial recognition program amid growing concerns from users and regulators. This means their social media platforms will no longer recognize faces in photos and videos, and the face scan data on 1 billion accounts will be deleted.
