Starting point is 00:00:00 She started her day at home in the mountains just like any other. There was nothing unusual about making the familiar drive down to Sacramento to go to work. Then, in a flash, Mother Nature decided it was time to create a new landscape. Follow the journey of a dynamic young woman, mother and wife, Erika, as she is thrust into a world turned upside down by a series of natural disasters. Embark on a gripping journey with Erica in Sarah F. Hathaway's Day After Disaster. Thank God for these sunglasses. My eyes are burning from that sun.
Starting point is 00:00:44 How long was I down in the dark, Alan? Darn this raft. It's too big. Three paddles to the left, walk to the right, three paddles there. I have to keep this thing balanced. Damn, it's hot. The umbrella. At least I can get out of the sun. I'll wedge it in the creek. A little duct tape.
Starting point is 00:01:08 There we go. Much better. And it's catching the wind. Pulling me right. I wonder if I paddle on the left. It works! A balanced raft! Nice. I feel it's rough! Nice!
Starting point is 00:01:36 It's amazing! Look at all those stars! There's no lights! No lights. No light anywhere. How to tame them and then to ride them Cause you weren't meant to be caught counting days That's not your place Shout at the night, rage at the lies Don't let the fear control what's deep within Oh whoa whoa whoa whoa I must have fallen asleep when the current touched me. How far did it take me?
Starting point is 00:02:32 A building! I'm in a building! I got caught in this debris! Oh my god. It's bodies. all dead bodies. I have to get out of here. Sorry mister. Oh, it's bad.
Starting point is 00:03:23 Sir. What do you want? My name is Theresa. My family was killed in the quake. All I ever knew was caring for them. I'm so appreciative of the way you've saved this community. I would love to come to work for you. I'll make sure your home is clean and you'll have the best pasta in existence in your belly.
Starting point is 00:03:43 It sounds like a plan. You can move your things into the extra room in my home. Excellent sir, thank you sir. Hello TJ. Theresa. Smells good in here. Pasta will be ready in 30 minutes. Good. here pasta will be ready in 30 minutes good slowly i feel like a hurricane going round and round in my veins yeah
Starting point is 00:04:51 you try this time and time again you can push me out of my lane my lane Woman, you weren't lying. I haven't eaten like that since before the quake. I can make do with these dehydrated foods but just wait until the fresh tomatoes come in from the garden. It has been too long Major Villeges. I need to find my family. General McClintock assured me that as soon as he gets back we are heading that way. Right now I need you to focus.
Starting point is 00:05:54 Can you do that LaPierre? Yes sir. I want minimal casualties. It's not their fault they lost their homes. Yes sir. Yeah Have some faith in yourself, that's the guiding light Stats report, Sergeant Cook I have minimal weaponry, sir. A farmer chased him from his property Sass report, Sergeant Cook. I have minimal weaponry, sir. A farmer chased them from his property.
Starting point is 00:06:49 This is one of the towns scheduled for rebuild this week. I want them rounded up quickly with minimal casualties. Yes, sir. Monroe, take a team left and flank them. Yes, sir. You four, you with me. Chaffee, you take a team and flank to the right. Yes sir, you four, you're with me. Let's start pushing in. We'll never surrender!
Starting point is 00:07:20 They're dug in deep, sir. Lafayette, use your rifle to take out the loud one. But, sir, you will say... I know what I said, Lafayette. We eliminate the one, hopefully the many will come quietly. Shoot him in the leg. Yes, sir. If I may go just right.
Starting point is 00:07:44 No one has to die here today. Put your weapons down and come out. We have food, homes and jobs for you. We're coming out. See, Sergeant? That wasn't so tough. Get that man a doctor. I've got a medic, but we're short on doctors, Major. I'll see what I can do about that. You should know that when your dreams have hit the ceiling And fallen back down on the ground Let me tell you, I know the feeling I used to live in that town And that's how

Starting point is 00:09:33 today's the day I'm gonna reach shore for sure no more oats and water over this tiny candle. I'm gonna have a smoke before I start paddling. Is that smoke from my cigarette? No. What the heck is that? Looks like a huge fire in the west. Maybe it's a wildfire with all the water. How can it be burning? How black that smoke is. It looks like it's coming from that huge cone.
Starting point is 00:10:18 Is it a volcano? Oh wow, it's a long way off. What can I do to be way out here? I don't care anyway. Today is the day I reach land. Find someone to drive me home? I'll walk all the way if I have to. But soon I'll be there with my husband and my son in my arms again. Is the water steaming? Why would it be steaming? That's weird.
Starting point is 00:11:16 Oh well. A little further to go. Wait. My raft. The jugs, they're melting. Oh come on. Wait, my raft. The jugs, they're melting. Oh, come on.
Starting point is 00:11:30 I'm almost there. Oh no, the water's coming over the top of the raft. I'm almost there. Just a little further. I don't want to get there with or without this raft. Just hold my suit hold. Hot, hot, hot. Put it on the bottom. Move your legs. You can make it. Just a you on the training field today.
Starting point is 00:12:33 I wanted to see if you had another squad ready for combat. I have three more ready to go, but I have an issue. How can I help? I have two boys Rick and James they're younger than you were when I found you and they refused to be separated they claim to be brothers it's worse than you were with Javier look Javier the little gringo came to see you again. What are you doing here man?
Starting point is 00:13:10 I'm leaving Javier, my brother says it's time to go. Your brother is soft, he's too scared to join the gang. You can stay with us. If he joined we would be rivals and we both know your brother would never allow a gringo to join. I miss you brother, you've been my best friend. Let me walk you to the bus. What's this? Street trash in a spick in one place at the same time? Must be my lucky day. Later, DJ. Later, bro. Now we got you, little piece of trash.
Starting point is 00:14:04 DJ! Why don't you th dare pick on somebody your own size! Derek, no! You're the only family I have left. You can't die. You can't die. Where is your head TJ? You know better than to let emotions distract you. Yes sir Mr. Lee, but I don't understand your problem. Keep them together and make sure they have specialized training. I'll make them an elite team when they're older. Whatever you want, DJ. Hello, this is L. Douglas Hogan, voice of TJ Swinson. You can follow me at Amazon or go to Facebook.com.
Starting point is 00:15:23 I look forward to seeing you there nice spread you got here sir it's been in my family for generations and please call me Earl I'm not questioning your status Earl are they your family no they're refugee families that volunteered to help us rebuild in exchange for housing. Is that okay? As long as they're not causing problems, my lips are sealed. Do you have a family?
Starting point is 00:15:51 My son, his wife, and children were in California. We've had no word. We're working on saving anyone left alive. Have faith Earl. What did you do before the quake? I had a veterinary clinic in California. My wife and I were on vacation when the quake hit. In Minnesota?
Starting point is 00:16:07 No. We were in Washington visiting my mother. We had to fly here last minute to deal with some legal issues with the property. We had just arrived when the quake hit. You know, Earl, we're awfully short on doctors in town. Your medical expertise could certainly be of use. I'd really rather work with animals. I understand understand as soon as we have more doctors trained you can return to that profession sound like a deal
Starting point is 00:16:30 I think I can live with that good report to the clinic in town. What's your last name? I'll let them know you're coming last name is more. Thanks doc. We'll see you in town. I Have learned that no one else can carry this load We'll see you in town. I'm alone, I'm alone, I'm alone, I'm alone. Henry! She's awake! Hold her down. I just need to grab one more piece. Oh, get away from me! I just need to grab one more piece. Okay, away from me! OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH We're not trying to hurt you honey, we're trying to help.
Starting point is 00:17:46 Here, now drink this. My body, it burns! We have to remove that clothing that melted to your skin. It's gonna hurt some more. AHHHHH! AHHHHH! Hey, you're awake. Vince, I missed you. How did it go?
Starting point is 00:18:25 It went perfectly. The doctor says you will be back on your feet in no time. I was worried I wouldn't make it home. Now why would you say a thing like that? You can't get rid of me that easy. I love you, Vince. I love you too, baby. Look who's here.
Starting point is 00:18:43 Dexter! Mommy you're awake. Hey everyone, this is Phil Rablet from the Matter Facts Podcast, voicing the role of Cole Verges. If prepping guns and politics sounds like your cup of tea, come check out the Matter Facts podcast every Friday on iTunes, Citron, Spotify with my co-host Andrew Bobo. You all have a choice to make. We are rebuilding the world. You can choose to become a part of it and earn a spot within my city, or you can go into the federal system and get placed in a labor camp.
Starting point is 00:19:57 The choice is yours. Free country indeed. I'll never bow to you. Yuri, sounds like he prefer a labor camp. Sounds like it to me. Trent, take him to a holding cell. Come on, you. Fight for your freedoms.
Starting point is 00:20:18 Make your choice and choose wisely. Wisely. Oh, I'm losing my mind I'm losing my mind I'm losing my mind I'm losing my mind I'm losing my mind I'm losing my mind I'm losing my mind I'm losing my mind I'm losing my mind Oh, my lips are burning like a flash
Starting point is 00:21:05 My lips are burning like a flash I'm an edge, I'm an edge, I'm an edge, I'm an edge I'm an edge, I'm an edge, I'm an edge, I'm an edge I'm an edge, I'm an edge, I'm an edge, I'm an edge I'm an edge, I'm an edge, I'm an edge I'm an edge, I'm an edge, I'm an edge I'm an edge, I'm an edge, I'm an edge I'm an edge, I'm an edge, I'm an edge
Starting point is 00:21:14 I'm an edge, I'm an edge, I'm an edge I'm an edge, I'm an edge, I'm an edge I'm an edge, I'm an edge, I'm an edge I'm an edge, I'm an edge, I'm an edge I'm an edge, I'm an edge, I'm an edge I'm an edge, I'm an edge, I'm an edge I'm an edge, I'm an edge, I'm an edge I'm an edge, I'm an edge, I'm an edge
Starting point is 00:21:22 I'm an edge, I'm an edge, I'm an edge I'm an edge, I'm an edge, I'm an edge I'm an edge, I'm an edge, I'm an edge I'm an edge, I'm an edge, I'm an edge I'm an edge, I'm an edge, I'm an edge I'm an edge, I'm an edge, I'm an edge I'm an edge, I'm an edge, I'm an edge Hello TJ. What's for dinner? Pork chops and green beans. Put it on the table and go to your room. You can do the dishes in the morning. Yes TJ. I thought you said I had a choice I volunteered to work in your city why am I here no one asked you to speak you said we could be free did I well no but I thought if I did... I didn't mean to. Shh! Everyone has a role to play, and you will be working in the city. After I'm done with you, I'm sure my men can find a use for you. You can't do this!
Starting point is 00:22:43 And who is going to stop me? Are you? No! Then be a good girl and do your job. Yes, TJ. It's coming together, Monroe. Yes, sir, it is. People worked fast. It almost seems normal now.
Starting point is 00:23:10 It certainly does. How are LaPierre and Cook doing in their towns? Progressing steadily, sir. LaPierre had another group of refugees come through today, but they weren't looking for a fight. Just a warm bed. Easy pickings, sir. Le Pier had another group of refugees come through today, but they weren't looking for a fight. Just a warm bed. Easy pickings, sir.
Starting point is 00:23:30 Does it ever feel wrong rounding up these people? I don't see that we have a choice. Orders are orders, and they'd be chaos without the factories to put them to work. I guess so. Major Burgess, sir. What's up, Chappie? There's a woman here to see you. Who? I don't know. She only wants to talk to you. Let's go then. You should never keep a lady waiting, right? She looks more like a warrior than she does a lady. That's her in the corner, sir.
Starting point is 00:24:09 You asked for me? Major Cole Verges? Yes, ma'am, and you are? My name is Cassidy Baker. And why did you want to see me, Miss Cassidy Baker? I just wanted to see if you were as handsome as I heard you were. Somehow I doubt that, but I'll play along. So am I. You are. I heard you have a self-spot for the refugees. We're all people, right? It's not their fault they took the brunt of the tsunami.
Starting point is 00:24:37 But we need unity. It's the only way to produce enough food. Where'd you come from, Cassidy? The West. Why come to me asking me about how I feel about my job? Your job? A man has to eat right. I'm no farmer. Why come to me, Cassidy?
Starting point is 00:24:54 There are others that feel we can survive as free communities that can exist and still be free. I've heard about those towns out West. People huddled up, fearful for their lives. I've heard the same about the federal lands, but it isn't the refugees causing the fear, it's the government. We have to restore order. I represent that group of people, and we feel that the Mercs could stand as a check against the new government. I can see this situation getting out of control.
Starting point is 00:25:27 You wouldn't want to imagine some of the protocol in place for these types of incidences. On the other hand, it could report you. And I could disappear into the night and you would never hear from me again. Why should I trust you? Because you know in your heart this isn't right and what has to be done. Someone has to make certain that this country doesn't fall to the unquestioned law of a select few. The FEMA board weren't even elected by the people and they are in control. I'm not in a position to direct the Merck Army.
Starting point is 00:26:04 But you have to trust General McClintock. My my, you are well informed. The feds weren't the only ones with plans in place for a collapse scenario. I will talk to General McClintock, but I can't make any guarantees. He is committed to saving this country. So am I. Looking at you and I feel the tension. You know, this could be like a fun. I am right here doing my best to make you feel like I do. And just for a second, you're looking at me, making me feel like maybe you want this to give me your attention.
