the the Shout out. Thank you to the Jones homestead for hosting the ration of ruin meeting last night meet up meeting whatever the hell it was
It was a good time and we recorded almost the whole thing for you. So I think you'll see that about noon
Probably about probably about noon today
You'll get a big taste of the old ration of ruin meetup the varieties of
strange and delicious Romanian food
that was part of the whole thing, and you know how to get involved fundamentally. And I'd highly recommend it, highly recommend it. It's even if you can only get in for a week,
you know what I mean? If you can only muster enough survival food and willpower to get in for a week, you know what I mean? If you can only muster enough
Survival food and willpower to do it for a week
Do it for a week and you'll learn a lot. You know what I mean?
So before we get rolling let's get into we're gonna talk about coffee a lot today. We're gonna talk about coffee
food coffee food food in Bev today on the show and
food coffee food food in Bev today on the show and
Because things happen in the background. We got our fingers and all kinds of weird things and
But first and foremost we need to talk about today's sponsor
The one in the only preppers medical handbook. I have the overhead light on I'm gonna turn that off while I run this
So just take a look take a read and I'll remark on it in just a second.
I mean the building out of a prepper library is essential you need hardback
books hard copy books resources that last if you have everything digital you
can find yourself in a real problem, in a real situation.
My copy, The Prepper's Medical Handbook, it is, it's the book.
You know what I mean?
It's the book.
What up, Firewolf Forge?
Thanks for joining us today, buddy.
It is the book, man.
There's no doubt about it.
I mean, it has so much to do with so much in such a little volume and
you know the
I'd say that just the OTC
guidance and the medications and the and the items therein are
Invaluable, you know the whole the whole setup the building of the off-grid medical kit, which is the last chapter in the book.
Yeah, it's just a great one, man.
The decision care table is a really great section.
If no breathing is present from whatever cause, see adult 1 rescue CPR.
If body temperature is over 100 with cough, see bronchitis, pneumonia, page 63.
If severe pain, sudden onset, no trauma, see page 63 if Associate if severe pain sudden onset no trauma see page 63 64 22, you know, I always say like
The first thing that you do
You know if you if you become sort of the the family doctor in a long-term disaster emergency
Like the first skill that you want to get good at is diagnosis, right? You want to be able to look at somebody and go
Probably like this this or this going on
Could be wrong on all of them, but you know, you that's kind of step one. You're not gonna just break out the old
The old prepper suit your kit or the old prepper staple skin staple gun and go to town, right? So
today's show brought to you by the
Preppers medical handbook and we're gonna talk a bit about coffee from from
the personal standpoint here for those of you who don't know myself and the
well I used to be able to say myself in the host of the matter of facts podcast
but it's not really that way anymore so myself Phil Rabelais from the matter
of fact podcast and Andrew Bobo who you probably remember from the matter of facts
podcast are all owners of
disaster coffee disaster coffee calm and
one of the cool things about coffee is and being in the coffee biz is that it's a
You learn a lot about the world and how the world is working.
So very early on, we understood that COVID
was going to affect the entire world
because it was already affecting the coffee industry.
The coffee industry is one of those industries
that it feels the reverberations of policy and all
those kinds of things pretty quickly and easily. Now, you know,
like everything else, it's always going up. You know, I've never gotten an
email from our coffee roaster that said, hey, coffee's going down $3.00.
Three cents even. So, we feel that, we see that that and we were talking yesterday on at a meeting and
just sort of discussing best you know what like what is the long-term deal
with coffee you know what is the future of coffee really gonna look like what
is the future of caffeination gonna look like you know there are a bunch of ways
you can get your caffeine fixed, but
for us coffee is essential. I mean it really isn't essential, it's critical. And we were
thinking about that, talking about that, and years ago we created a product which is pictured
in the background called Bunker Beans. And it was merely just giving you, the consumer,
access to green coffee beans because they store longer they last longer
You can roast them yourself when you need to or not. You can sit them in long-term food storage and have coffee
because for most of us
In fact, I don't know if I could name a person who grows coffee that I know
You know what? I mean in the At least in the United States in the lower
48, right? So that was the whole motivation. It's just kind of this idea of like, we'll
keep, I think, having access to great coffee, which we have at DisasterCoffee.com. It's
the best coffee I've ever had. And giving the consumer access to that coffee is good. It's not something that we should do away with
But we we have come to the conclusion at least over the last year that
the best value
the best
bang for your buck in terms of coffee and the best quality of coffee that you're gonna get is always gonna come from
green coffee beans.
Buying green coffee beans. And the magic here is we sell a five pound bag.
We're lucky enough that our roaster does that for us.
It's nothing super fancy.
You know what I mean?
Here's one that I've been kind of roasting out of myself.
But what it is, is it's access to a five pound bag of green coffee beans.
Let me see if I can give you a look at them in there.
And what that does is you get the coffee much cheaper obviously.
But on top of it you have the storage option.
And then your test with learning the skill of roasting.
And I'll say skill pretty loosely. Now I was a chef before
so I might be you know underestimating what it takes but the truth of the
matter is it's really not that tough to roast your own coffee and it's really
rewarding you know you're roasting your own coffee you're storing it roasted
you're grinding it up when you want a cup, maybe in the French press or something like that.
And it's for our community, I do feel like it's kind of essential, right?
You should, you should be pretty well versed in all the different parts and processes of
coffee making as a skill set. You know, if only because... Firewolf. If only because you, you know,
you have, you hold serious power in your hands. Should you have this and no one's
had any coffee in a while, right? So, you know, it is what it is. You can be of service.
You can I've talked many times about being able to call people together in a community
or in a group using off-grid coffee brewing.
Do you know how to pull something like that off?
I really do think that, you know, it's the best deal in town in terms of caffeination and
If we at disaster coffee have decided that we're gonna push it
Much more than we have in the past and we do push it a lot
But we're gonna push it much more than we have in the past as an opportunity for people to have good coffee
because
we're gonna be raising coffee prices something like
Because we're gonna be raising coffee prices something like
12 ounce bag something like $16, you know what I mean 16 some 17 There's gonna be some of our premium like like our 30-day whiskey barrel aged coffee is probably gonna be like 20 some dollars
So it's getting to that point. You know what I mean?
It's getting to the point with cough and we may not be done the word from our roaster is we don't know
What the future holds.
It was like that with COVID, a lot like that with COVID. I remember the same sort of messaging and they're right.
Nobody really knows what the future holds, you know?
So we'll have to see coffee comes from all varieties of, uh, nations in all
different places around the world.
And we have, you know, our inventory has a large set from everywhere, regional.
You don't know.
You never really know.
Natural disaster, war, all that kind of stuff.
But one thing's for sure, in this uncertain situation,
what's getting tough is getting long term agreements from
farmers on price. That's what's getting tough because the look the farmers are
not here. They're in other countries. They're watching Donald Trump. They're
going I don't know what that guy's gonna do in six months to a year. They're
watching wars. I don't know what's gonna happen in six months to a year. I can't
give out some price on a long-term contract with coffee and say, yeah, I'll honor that.
And then your president says, well, you know, 30% tariff, right? So we find ourselves in a situation
and we'll all feel it. You know what I mean? Eventually, we're just here. We feel it first with a lot of things
What's going on guys?
The dogs are making out they're vomiting all over the couch. I don't know what they're doing
We're gonna have to start locking them outside during the show I guess I don't know what it is
they They love to interrupt though. So anyhow
They're like the comedic sidebar or something like that
They're so cute the ones a little pitbull puppy and the other ones a little Frenchie, you know what I mean and
They're laying on the couch just kind of eating each other's face. I
Don't know how else to put it and one of them must be choking on the hair from the other one. I
Don't know what he's gotten into
You good man
The little Goomba
alright
So securing that long-term contract is what the trouble is with coffee, and I'm sure it's not just our roaster
that's having trouble with it. You know what I mean? I'm sure it's a it's probably gonna be felled across the board and across the world.
Which you know brings me to the the concept here brings me to the idea of you know you being who you are
you can handle green coffee beans.
And that's a unique thing.
You know what I mean?
You take a bag of green coffee beans to a regular person
and say, hey, handle this.
It's going to be a tough one.
We're going to run another commercial,
and I'm going to kick the dogs outside.
What do we got?
I don't know if I have the audio
version. I'm gonna bring that up for you. I don't know if you guys have ever seen
that. Actually no, that'll take like 10 minutes to upload. I'll hop off, we'll run
the Lima Tango and we'll be right back. We're gonna talk. What are we gonna
talk? Did we talk this show already? There's something.
Oh, that's right.
We got a great Inside the Cash coming up.
That's what it is.
Great Inside the Cash.
All right.
Be right back.
Hang with me.
Don't go anywhere.
Bye. Sorry for the radio silence on the on the ad side folks, but that's Lee Mettango Survival another amazing sponsor of ours
Man, you need backpacks you need bug-out bags
EDC kits for the car car kits even fire kits little
$25 fire kits like the one you see right here those guys man. They got it. Whoops
They got it this thing sweet. I'm not gonna go over it in totality, but suffice it to say
It's a good measure of your acumen if you can't get a fire going with the Lima tango fire kit
Then you need work right you need some serious practice
Nothing wrong with it sometimes. That's just what it is sometimes you need serious practice, right?
So let's get into inside the cache, shall we?
Cause I get a cool product sent to me from a buddy.
I'm not gonna give the full breakdown
cause it is kind of in the let's check it out phase,
but yeah, let's do it.
It's been a while.
So this is a company called Essential Provisions.
So this is a company called essential provisions
Essential provisions is doing something that is pretty cool man field fuel
Hardy bison stew This is a 12 ounce package
340 grams of this is not a mountain house meal. This is a ready-to-eat meal. This is essentially an MRE really
packaging three-year shelf life and the beautiful
thing about these essential provisions is they've gone all out on ingredients
you know what I mean they really have gone all out on ingredients massive amounts of protein 43 grams of protein in this guy
370 calories and
You know, it's all kind of this one in particular is all centered around this
unbelievable bison
so
Here we go. Here's the good stuff
370 calories 43 grams of protein 28 carbs only 930 milligrams of sodium, which ain't bad
These guys are pricey. Don't get me wrong. They're not gonna replace your long-term food storage by any stretch
But they're not bad. They're a decent size
They're a good meal bug out bag ask meal. Like I said, you get three years out of it
So where I think these could shine for the prepping community is definitely bug out obviously camping hunting fishing
adventuring whatever outdoor fun you get into
But it's also kind of easy
and I think there's something to be said about that, you know, one of the things that I see a lot of are the like
You know, one of the things that I see a lot of are the like factor I think is the latest one, you know, like the blue aprons, the meal preps, right?
The meal prep money making companies out there that make up the meals for you, send them
to you.
People are looking for that.
You know, they really are.
They're looking for that.
If you're like me, you know, like if you're out and about doing something in the outdoors,
like you're gonna eat this just the way that it is. You're probably not even gonna heat it up,
right? Cool. Over at Family Gear, I'm gonna open this guy up and eat it either today or
probably tomorrow or the next day. And there's a bunch of them and I may do I may taste test them all. There is a another bison what is it? There's another bison meal.
There's a vegetarian meal. Oh it's over there on the table. We'll get into it in more in
detail over at at Family Gear on the membership side pbnfamily.com if you
want to join. Oh running seven day free trial over there
Yeah, you can get in you can see what a lot of the things are about for seven days and decide whether or not you
Want to join?
well worth it well worth going and hanging out at PBN family comm for seven days and having the
Having access to it all it Jay Ferg it it says free from dairy, free from gluten, free from preservatives.
Where's the ingredient list?
Yeah, the ingredient list is massive and there's no, there really, this is the ingredient list.
Like, the camera's doing a suck job.
You see that? That's the ingredient list.
Let me look for weird stuff. Potato starch,
beef collagen, smoked paprika. That's something I put in my chili all the time. That's what the
other one is. It's chili, bison chili. Jay Ferg, I don't see anything that has anything to do with soy.
The meals thoroughly cooked, ready to eat, can be eaten at room temperature if desired pour into a pan stir heat. Beware of steam.
Yeah, these are cool, man. These are really cool. The branding is great. Again, they're
a company called Essential Provisions. You may hear more about them here on PBN. But
I thought they were a cool food option. Like I we're doing food in bed today that's kind of the thing kind of a cool food option obviously a
completely organic made no preservative pink Himalayan sea salt grass-fed bison
meal is gonna run you a little more even than a mountain house so you know wrap
your head around that and figure out if that's something you want to do
You know, it's what it is that'd be fun fire wolf forge, that's a great idea
fire wolf forge says
Get the boys opinion. I like that. That's a great call
Between a chef and a and a ten-year-old
We could probably get a pretty good review on it for the members over there at family gear I haven't put anything up on family gear in a while either. I need to get that thing up there
We got we got stuff. We got plenty to do
It's just up to the commander to get his ass in gear in front of the camera knock it out
Yeah, so that's it I think that's pretty much it today guys to be honest with you
Look, it's lovely. It's pretty much it today guys to be honest with you. Look it's
lovely it's been lovely look for the ration or ration I think it's called
I'll tell you the name because the name is hilarious. No I won't tell you the
name it'll take too long. It's called RNR and I think it's called chicken chunks
white cooked. I'm pretty sure that is the title. So look for that later today
You'll have to listen to it to find out why it's called that but the episode will be out at noon
It's myself Dave Jones
Future Dan Ben the breaker of the banksters all hanging out at the Jones Homestead, some intermittent
Maria I think, and just a little bit of Yap, a little bit of Ranger School stories and
war stories and Sea Ration stories, a little bit of witty banter, and of course the real
breakdown of how all of us are gonna handle
The ration of ruin challenge in May and and sort of the details on that Jay Ferg I will send you a link to essential
provisions
and
Yeah, so enjoy that one. It's long. It's probably like an hour. We really see we had it we it was a combination of like a
Hang out slash get a little bit of work done together slash
you know, whatever so
I hope it motivates
I really do want to see as many of you try ration of ruin as possible
Because you'll learn so much about yourself and what you're capable of
And what you're not capable of yet comma yet, right? All right. I think I've about done it
We touched on everything. Let me look at the show knows to be sure. I don't know anybody anything free trial
We did it bunker beans go to disaster coffee.com
essential provisions
Just look up essential provisions because I didn't put a link in the description down below
They're not a sponsor anything. It's just a really cool product. Somebody sent me a friend,
an Instagram friend will go with that. Yeah, I'd say that's about it folks. I do appreciate you,
man. Get your coffee situation solidified. I don't think we're going to be moving into a time where
coffee is a thing where you're like
Man, it's so good that the coffee price and the gas price have come down together
You know what? I mean, so and
Plus it's just it just feels good. It feels right in this community I'm telling you you get your hands on the green coffee roast it yourself
You grind it yourself and you're like this makes sense like I'm grinding my wheat or whatever you do, right?
I'm cooking from scratch preserving salting curing smoking whatever and now we're also doing
Now by the way, you can smoke coffee beans
Just I never done it but it's something you could do
Maybe I will do it because it's not that hard to do under a I think I have a wine glass big enough to do it
Could be kind of fun a little
smoked six bean uh no a little smoked supply drop all right i'm out of here folks i do appreciate
you look for that show the patriot power hour guys will be live tonight as well and i'm sure
they'll have a bunch to talk about from yesterday and yeah prepare yourself
