Starting point is 00:00:00 A person who advocates and practices preparedness. One ready for any event that would disrupt their daily routine. That is a problem. Hello everyone out there in Internet Radio Land. This is Dave Jones, the NBC Guy. Happy New Year, Happy New Year, Happy New Year. 2026 is upon us, and I am with the Intrepid Commander on this Seizing the Year. Let's do what we can to make this the best prepper year ever.
Starting point is 00:00:48 And I'm starting today to exercise my com plan. Yes. one of my resolutions was to establish better communications and I'm taking several steps here all at once one of them is to evaluate one of these radio systems that you see a lot of times on Facebook and the internet no no contract no you know talks coast
Starting point is 00:01:27 the coast, blah, blah, blah. Well, the Intrepid Commander is getting in contact with a company, and we're going to evaluate these little handheld pocket radio kind of things, and we're going to see if they could be added into our communications plan. And, you know, before you drop the two or three hundred dollars on one of these, I think it was $1.99 for one of these things. And then you need a pair, so that's $400, and I need three of them. So that's about $600.
Starting point is 00:02:08 You know, for $600, I can get a sat phone. So let's see, let's see. We're going to evaluate them. But tonight, tonight I'm going to do GMRS with the Intrepid Commander. He is doing a camp out. uh winter camp and one of the things he wanted to do is take a radio along and see if he could pick up anybody and i think i am within range of his campsite so i am going to uh communicate with him or attempt anyways see how long these how far these things can transmit i'm going to use
Starting point is 00:02:51 a handheld and a 50-watt base station. I plan to get a 50-watt base station put into my car so I can have radio communications in my car and hopefully it will reach from my house to the school. At least I'm pretty sure it will. The line of sight is good and just whether or not the 50 watts is powerful enough.
Starting point is 00:03:25 So we'll see. We will see. That is the plan. And I have a 40-foot television tower that I've been threatened to climb up for years and put a GMRS radio antenna on top of this thing. And this is the year. I am going to do that. I have purchased all the accoutrements that I need to make this thing happen.
Starting point is 00:03:53 Now, at the house here, it's going to be a temporary kind of thing because I don't want a permanent hookup, but I'm going to have the antenna up, the wire run down, and then like a portable base station running off of a 12-volt battery. that will be able to plug in, turn on, and use whenever you need to. So that's the plan anyways. Not that I don't want a permanent hookup, it's just that I think I want to have the versatility to take this thing, you know, places. And if we ever get a second car, you know, put it in the second car maybe. So something like that.
Starting point is 00:04:42 Something like that. And not only that, once you have the antenna and everything's strong, you can hook other things to it. So it doesn't have to be, you know, set. Anyway, that's the long and the short of it. I'm sure if Chin's listening, he's probably thinking about a million different things that I could do that I have no clue. So, and mesh tactics, my neighbor's into it.
Starting point is 00:05:25 He's all about it. And I just haven't got the first steps in communications down, let alone the second or third step. So baby, baby walk, you know, crawl, walk, run, baby talk, baby steps, whatever. And that's what I'm doing here. Okay, PBN family, that's about it. Stay tuned. Stay tuned to PBN, make it a New Year's resolution to be a part of the PBN family. And hope you had a chance to see the New Year's Eve special.
Starting point is 00:06:04 If you didn't, it's still out there. It is still out there. It might be harder to find, but it is still out there. And making a New Year's resolution. If you want to get your medical stuff right, get the Prepper's Medical Handbook from William W. Furgey. Doc Fergie, he was on the PBN a few times. I got the interviewing along with the Intrepid Commander.
Starting point is 00:06:33 He's a great guy. been backpacking for his entire life. So he wrote the book on off-grid medicine. This guy lived it, does it, and he wrote the book. It's not his only book, but it's the book that we have here at PBN. I actually have all his books. Okay, once we found him, I went back and looked at these other books. and I've just made them a part of my prepper library.
Starting point is 00:07:08 There you go. So if you want to increase your medical capabilities, Prepper's Medical Handbook. There you go. And get you a GMRS license. Trump made it far more affordable. It used to be $70. Now it's $35. So there you go.
Starting point is 00:07:30 GMR. And it's one license for the insurance. entire family. It's a great deal. Check into GMRS radio. It's kind of the go between CBs, okay, or family radio. CBs is a little more powerful than family. And ham, there's no test.
Starting point is 00:07:53 GMRS radios require no test. It's just a license. You fill it out. And it's online, and you'll get your license, like, within 24. hours I did. So there's my prepper tips for the day. Take care and prep on.
