Starting point is 00:00:00 Hello, everyone out there in Internet Radio Land. This is Dave Jones, the NBC guy. How are you doing? Okay, I got to explain this. So I got an email from a listener, says he'd like to hear the Daily Audio Cash that I didn't post. and I tried to upload it and for some reason we can see it in the queue in Spreaker but and we saw it six minutes and something and but it does not play and it says says in there difficulty uploading
Starting point is 00:00:51 or something I don't know anyway I am going to try and recreate what I did on Saturday as as near as I can remember, now you're taxing the old man's brain to the max, but this listener said, it's my birthday and it would be a great birthday present. And I said, you bet. Happy birthday. Here it goes. And then I don't know what happens. Spreaker happened or the internet happened. Who knows? But I will tell you this. This is spurring me. to do the right thing and get with the program. I've been half-stepping this, you know, spreeker. It's only on my old phone.
Starting point is 00:01:49 I haven't done a broadcast in probably a year, a live broadcast myself. I've joined other people's, okay? So this is my pledge to you. Over the Christmas break, I am going to hook myself up with Spreaker and get serious about this podcast and thing and do much better at it. I appreciate everybody that listens to me and I really, really want to do a better job for you guys and make the this work better. Now, that still doesn't answer why Spreaker don't like my theme music. So James and I are trying to figure that out. But I'm the only one of all the hosts that they single out for playing music and not podcasting. And I said, well, they just don't listen long enough.
Starting point is 00:02:52 Anyway, so Saturday I was out and about and I was free. I was on. I was free. I was on. off the hook. I was off the chain. I was on the loose. I was very, very excited. It was a sunny day. And I was heading to the dump. I had a load of stuff going to the dump. And I do remember talking about moving forward, always moving forward, that, you know, prepping his baby steps. and I had a long memory bubble about Walter Payton, okay, the rushing back. And I think Emmett Smith finally beat his record. But Walter Payton, when he was in his heyday, would always fall forward. Okay, so he would always get those extra, extra feet, extra inches, whatever he could get.
Starting point is 00:03:52 even when he was tackled, he would fall forward. So that's what you got to do in prep. And you always got to keep moving forward, whether it's by inches, you know, a general trend up. Let's put it that way. So I went on and on about, you know, that. And then I started talking about, and this is the reason why I didn't want it posted. I started talking about my military awards, and I was kind of surprised that the Defense Meritorious Service Medal was the third highest Department of Defense Award. And I'm like, dang, I never knew that.
Starting point is 00:04:45 I Googled, AI did, or whatever. and I have a defense meritorious service medal I have two army meritorious service medals which the defense medal is higher than the army one and then a whole slew of army achievement medals and five army commendation medals and this is why I didn't post it I felt like it was
Starting point is 00:05:17 you know like blowing my own horn or something like that and it felt like I was bragging so I said I'm not posting this and you can hear me say it I'm just not posting this and I hit it and put it in the drafts maybe that's why I didn't upload I had it in the draft for a few days but it I've done that before and it posted anyway it had something to do with the National Guard members that were shot and I can't remember how my thinking went that it went from them to my awards. I'm clueless on that part, but this is as best as I can recall what I talked about. I know I was very excited, very happy, you know, it was a beautiful day and I was, you know, on work release program from the warden.
Starting point is 00:06:22 And we were making headway. We cleared out one of the sheds. You know, there's just so much garbage. You hang on to things and then you say, I'm going to use that one day. And one day never comes. So I felt good about clearing out all that crap, making space for things that we actually do use. And I got a big load of scrap metal.
Starting point is 00:06:55 If you know about my scrap metal runs, I will collect up metal, go to the scrap metal place, and they weigh it, drop it off. And then the money that comes from that scrap metal, I will go and buy silver. So I've been doing this for a number of years, turning scrap metal into precious metal.
Starting point is 00:07:23 And that was my... Oh, I think I did have another prepper tip. I got the batteries out of the tractors because it was cold. I don't know if I said this the other day or if I said this on my... And I put them on a trickle charger. So I put them inside where it's warmer.
Starting point is 00:07:44 and I trickle charge all my batteries all winter long and just rotate them. And then they're ready to go in the spring. And I'll use a battery pack to start the tractor if I got to do some plowing or whatever. Snow plowing. Gosh, well, I hope all this explains all of that. What a crazy. but I was I was it was the highest
Starting point is 00:08:15 non-combat award you can get and that that was kind of shocking to me I had no idea you know so many times I did explain this
Starting point is 00:08:33 you don't go into an assignment or something saying I'm going to get this medal you don't you just go into a job you do the best you can and sometimes you get a metal sometimes you don't and it's just the way it is i mean i i said no one sets out to get a purple heart that's that's that's the metal where you're wounded no one no one wants that okay so it metals just happen and You know, when you get one, at least in my case, you don't think it's any big deal because, hey, it can't be a big deal. I did it. So there again another example of you thinking that your accomplishments aren't that great because you did them.
Starting point is 00:09:31 you know how could a guy from western pennsylvania in the hills um how could that be so bad you know when he's one of the beverly hillbillies to grow up and do this in the military yeah so i know james and back i've got to write that story got to write that got to write my life story yeah i'm going to do that. I am going to do that. I'm going to do that. I know. One day, one day. I think I'm going to do it in the series of war stories. So each, each, you can open that book and just have a different war story. This happened. That happened. Instead of trying to, I've been for years trying to chronicleize it in my brain and it's just too hard it's it's a bunch of different events that happened most of them funny some of them scary as heck and uh yeah i met this guy he's in the air force
Starting point is 00:10:51 now now he's in the seven so he's been in the air force for a while And we're on this C-130. And he taps me. He says, give me the vomit bag. And I give him the vomit bag. And sure enough, he vomits right in this bag. And I mean, we didn't have turbulence. We didn't have anything.
Starting point is 00:11:13 I mean, we were coming in for a landing. It felt pretty, pretty safe, pretty, you know. And I said, what are you doing? He says, I always do this. I said, you always vomit on a flight? He says, yeah. I said, why did you pick the Air Force? It just didn't make any sense to me.
Starting point is 00:11:40 Every time he gets on a plane, he knows he's going to vomit. Oh, gosh, that would be terrible. Anyway, I guess I rambled on enough. I'm taking you to school with. me. I'm on my way to school. This is, takes about 30 minutes to get to the school, so we are, we are, you know,
Starting point is 00:12:03 up on the mountain. Okay, PBN family, I hope this, happy birthday to that listener, you know who you are. I don't say names on the air because, unless I have permission. So take care
Starting point is 00:12:19 and prep on. Thank you.
