A person who advocates and practices preparedness.
One ready for any event that would disrupt their daily routine.
That is a prepper.
Hello, everyone out there in Internet Radio Land.
This is Dave Jones, the NBC guy.
I am still alive.
This is from that movie, that great movie, The Croods.
It's an animated story about family,
and it's very, very good.
If you want a good movie night, put that baby on.
You will not be disappointed.
I am still alive.
Croods 2 is a little less appealing.
Croods 1, what a great message.
What a great message.
Anyway, I digress.
The reason I am on this daily audio cache is to let you know our chaplain, our spiritual leader at PBN
is back.
And if you don't listen to Stephen Minkin,
you're missing out.
This guy,
of all the things that are on PBN,
he's the only show I miss when he's not on.
I can do without any other
show. It's like Stephen Minkin
and this is the quintessential
rule for great speakers.
He makes you feel like he's talking directly
to you. It's like a one-on-one conversation
with you personally. And wow.
He's fantastic and I
I'm so happy he's back.
He's got all girls in this lottery of life,
and maybe that's a good thing.
Marie and I joked.
We said, wow, how easy our life would be if we only had girls.
Not that boys are all that difficult, but wow, wow, boys.
Boys bring it to a whole nother level.
I mean, gosh, gosh.
Anyway, PBN family, listen to Reliance.
Treat yourself.
Treat yourself because it,
it helps me focus on the coming week.
And it is the way to start your week out with reliance.
So that's big time news here on PBN. And he
had to take a sabbatical. Totally, totally
understandable. Oh my gosh. Oh my gosh.
If you've ever had a newborn
in your life, you know what that requires.
So, there you go. That's all that needs to be said.
Yeah.
So Stephen Menken, our spiritual compass
in this time of turmoil. You got this
from the NBC guy. I highly, highly recommend
Reliance. It is fantastic.
So what's going on here at the Jones
Homestead? Well, I'm off for a week. The first
break I got since the beginning of the school year, the kids
were off a few days, Columbus Day
and Veterans Day, but the teachers had to go into work
and it was very good. It was continuing education
and blah, blah, blah, but it was very good. It's just that
you don't have a break. So this week I have filled
with doctor's appointments, car appointments, everything
that I didn't have to plan much for before.
Now I really have to plan.
So this is the week of appointments.
And I will not get another break until Christmas.
We come back and it's like three weeks.
Bang, bang, bang, bang.
And then it's Christmas break and all our grades have to be in
and I mean
yeah it's hard on us but boy is it hard on the kids
hey and I wanted to point out I don't know if the
Intrepid Commander will read this or not I recommended
it to him for Thanksgiving.
And it may have come up before.
I am not sure.
But it was George Washington's
Thanksgiving Day Proclamation.
And it has some gems.
Some gems in it.
Okay.
Being the history teacher that I am,
I have to take this opportunity to give you a lesson.
George Washington was the first conquering hero
to ever lay down his rank and retire.
Okay?
He did what he had to do for this country
and then he resigned his commission
in front of Congress
and hoping to retire
and never go back to public life.
I mean, how do I put this?
Every other conquering general in the history of mankind,
Julius Caesar, you name it, Napoleon, you name it, you name it.
They made themselves emperor.
They made themselves king for life.
And Washington did what he had to do
and he laid it all down
and said, now, you have a country,
good luck with that.
And he retired to Mount Vernon.
This is a portion of history
that is rarely taught,
but there was a period
where we operated under the
Articles of Confederation.
It was a loose agreement, a handshake, whatever.
Like an agreement amongst a friendship agreement, okay?
And it did not work well.
It did not work well.
Okay, and it did not work well.
It did not work well.
Anyway, Washington's proclamation,
Thanksgiving proclamation,
talked about Thanksgiving and the importance of it and all that.
It did all that.
But it also marveled in the fact
that we were able to change governments completely
and no one died.
We went from the Articles of Confederation to the Constitution,
which we live by today, and no one died.
That had never been done before.
If you change a government completely,
it usually means rebellion and death.
And we came together, shook hands,
and agreed upon the way things should be.
And we've been doing it that way for over 200 years.
So that's huge.
That's huge.
And Washington knew how huge it really was.
The United States is singularly unique
among countries on the planet
and throughout history
because no one else can say
and point to all the things that we've done.
You know, when the Marine Corps hymn says
from the halls of Montezuma,
that means we captured all the land of Mexico down to Mexico City.
And we gave it all back.
To the shores of Tripoli.
Yes, Tripoli in Lebanon.
And we gave it all back.
It's unprecedented.
What the United States is,
gosh, we should really give thanks for that.
The whole world should give thanks for that.
Anyway, that's my little bit of a history lesson.
I had to get on here and announce Stephen Minkins' return.
I will understand any absent he has to take because, you know, you got to do what you got to do.
But I appreciate he came back with a purpose.
My gosh, listen to that episode.
You will be charging into this week feeling great.
Okay, PBN family, that's it from the Jones Homestead right now, but expect to hear more of me this week because I'm actually off.
Take care and prep on.
