Starting point is 00:00:00 Urban Survival Simulation This is Gotham Get Out Report. For all of you who are listening in for the first time, I'll do the real quick. I'd say listen to Dave Jones. He's taking the most time to break it down. I did a podcast yesterday to break down the situation and the event. These things are not things we want audiences for in the physical world. And we don't want a whole lot of to-do around it so it's not something we build up for now i will tell you that the gotham get out has we haven't done
Starting point is 00:00:51 anything yet right now i'm in route right now i'm in route to the location and uh it has the potential this little gig to something bigger, maybe for the audience at large, where you guys can participate in your own versions of the Gotham Get Out. It really, I got to give the credit to Future Dan for sort of putting together some of the core ideas. So, to break it down simplistically, we're going to freeze our asses off all night with minimal gear in an urban area. In basically an urban survival simulation, got next to nothing, okay? I'm en route now to meet the guys at a shop, if you will. the guys at a shop, if you will. I guess the best way for you to wrap your head around how this came to be is, for those of you who don't know, the Patriot Power Hour guys every year do some sort
Starting point is 00:01:54 of awesome event where they're testing themselves by way of bug out, really, essentially. They've done Azure Highland, they've done a bit dark trail march and this year is gotham get out and i told them i'd um join with them for the antics which is you know the absolute worst situation for me just so you know the other two events happened in the heat of the summer which is my playground you know you guys know that you guys know that the heat of the summer is lovely wonderful this is the worst okay so for me um this is a chance to look into my soul a little bit too but largely we're headed into this situation that is part urban survival simulation, part video game, if you will. Because some of the ideas and concepts were built off of a game called DayZ that the Patriot Power Hour boys play.
Starting point is 00:03:00 And I think I'm going to probably join them here soon. and I think I'm going to probably join them here soon. For those of you who don't know, Daisy is kind of like a free roam zombie. A lot of freedom, a lot of crafting, a lot of survival and a little bit of zombies from what I've seen. So some of the ideas were built out of that. Some of the ideas were just built out of the sheer toughness of suffering through a February night in the area where we're going. And yeah, that's it. It is what it is.
Starting point is 00:03:32 So that's what we're doing. That is the culmination of the Gotham Get Out. Listen to the three phases of the event by Dave Jones and he'll give you a breakdown more of exactly what's happening because there are parts and pieces to each. This is, just so you guys know, this is the least fun that I think I'm going to have in a very long, that I've had in a very long time. It's probably going to be reminiscent of the running the marathon, which is going to be funny because it's only really an eight mile trek. The rest of it is stationary cold endurance, depending on what it is we're able to craft and, you know, better our situation with it. I mean, I've been in these cold situations before but i come prepared i've been in cold situations in cold camps in the past where i've actually been disrobing
Starting point is 00:04:33 but the night time is different the sun goes away you know the guarantee yeah the guarantee of fire is a different thing that's's a motivation, right? The idea that like a lot of times, I don't know, you know, how many people do it, but if you go camping in the cold, and I mean camping, I don't mean in an RV or in a cabin, but if you go camping in the cold in the woods, not at a campground, or even at a campground sometimes, depending on the campground, you may spend an hour, two hours cutting wood, splitting wood, finding wood, and all of that really builds up to that idea that, well, no matter what happens, you know, we're going to have a raging fire and I've
Starting point is 00:05:15 got plenty of fuel to do it. For us, we're going to be arriving in a location that is, and, well, maybe we'll talk more about it later, but we're going to be arriving in a location that is completely unprepared to take'll talk more about it later but we're going to be arriving in a location that is completely unprepared to take us in the middle of the night we don't even going to have any light we're not going to have flashlights unless we find or make or build or craft a flashlight so it's a very different animal it's it's a very different animal. It's a minimalist animal tonight. And, you know, we'll just have to see. We'll have to see how we do.
Starting point is 00:05:51 That's the whole thing. These updates will be coming regularly throughout the day. So you're going to get updates from four different members or four different hosts. You're going to get them from me. And they're all going to be notated, just like you see this episode is notated. GGO for Gotham Get Out, who's doing it, which number it is along the way, and then, you know, somewhat what the topic is. We've all, one of the core elements is we've all got an eight mile hike ahead of us, and we're going to be lonely.
Starting point is 00:06:25 So I'm sure we'll talk at that point also. Yeah. It's good to test yourself, PBN family. For me, things like this are very important. Getting camping, hiking far away, alone, doing challenging things. When it comes to fitness and stuff, I challenge myself a lot. But the fundamental difference with that is even when it's deadly hot out or even when it's terribly cold out and I go run a long distance or something like that, it's sort of like a spring you know in other words when the spring is open I'm happy and at home and my children are close and you know all the things that I love are near and then I go through
Starting point is 00:07:18 hell and then I know the tension on that even though the tension on that spring is tight that I'm close right it's just gonna pop back open and I'm going to be back home in an hour, two hours, three hours, whatever it is. These things are so important because it's like I told you in the past, you know, one of my great motivations in all this, getting prepared, yes, doing business, being an entrepreneur. This is the way to live. You know what I mean? If you can do it, you can do it successfully. And when I say successfully, I mean you can keep the lights on.
Starting point is 00:07:58 This is the way to do it, man, as far as I'm concerned. I've had a lot of jobs. I've had bad jobs. I've had great jobs. But this is the way to do it. I mean, it's just, it's very rewarding, at've had a lot of jobs. I've had bad jobs. I've had great jobs. But this is the way to do it. I mean, it's just, it's very rewarding, at least for a guy like me. You know what I mean? I'm not the foot soldier type of guy. I can be, and I have been for large chunks of my life. If there's work to be done, I'll put my head down and get it done. But when you talk about a rewarding
Starting point is 00:08:21 life, you know, I'm a creative guy. I am the type of guy who's always thinking and imagining and, you know, the whole thing. So being an entrepreneur lends itself to that kind of stuff, particularly, you know, doing the things that I do, writing, podcasting, right, creating. fundamentally I built those I built this for a number of reasons but one of the biggest reasons was I wanted to be at with the family like I have a family I want to be with my family I know that people can't do that because of how they make their living or the choices that they made I know people that don't do that I also know people that don't want to do that I know people that are like yeah I got a wife and kids and the last thing I want to do is be there. And they spend their whole day at work. You know, I can't account for everyone. All I can do is account for me and my desires. Life is too short to try to figure everybody out.
Starting point is 00:09:18 But I knew when I had kids, they were the coolest. You know, my wife is also super cool I mean she really is she's the type of person that you in large part want to have fun with you know in fact it's almost detrimental when she's not having fun she's not into that too much but she really is I mean I've got a great group of people and we have a lot of fun together. So a big challenge for me is always leaving for an extended period of time. A big challenge for me is weighing the benefits of something like today against my normal life. Do you know what I mean? normal life. Do you know what I mean? It's like if you just ran, you know, five miles on a summer day and you get home and one cup has sweet tea in it with ice and it's perspirating and the other
Starting point is 00:10:16 cup has, you know, like sour milk. Chunky sour milk. Today I'm drinking the chunky sour milk. Today I'm drinking the chunky sour milk. And it's important to do that from time to time. You know, it's important to do that from time to time because first of all, it builds gratitude for the life that you have. And second of all, you know, it's tough and it's important to do hard things. It's important to do hard things. You know, it's important to do hard things. It's important to do hard things. The other thing that a lot of people miss out on, and maybe what could be the biggest benefit of Gotham Get Out if we expand it out to a greater group of people. What might be better than all of that, and something that I don't get enough of for sure is physical brotherhood you know the physical aspects of brotherhood it's when you're a dad and a husband
Starting point is 00:11:12 nope it's very hard to get that on a regular basis you know I mean I've got friends in the neighborhood and opportunities to have brotherhood in the physical world that way. And of course, I've got hosts and, you know, we have our physical brotherhood moments from time to time throughout the year. But the idea that we're doing those things on a regular basis, that's not reality for even more rare or even rarer is the, the chance to do that under extreme duress and to survive something hellish together, you know, like, I have no doubts that upon my arrival to the overnight location, it will be Ben and Dan that give me the desire to keep it up. Do you know what I mean? In other words, if it were me, I wouldn't have near the confidence that I would do this thing the whole night. this thing the whole night, but, but to do it together, to struggle together, um, to craft and create together and to, to survive together, I mean, it's, you know, everything to me is like a
Starting point is 00:12:40 percentage in a percentage of time, you know, like what percentage of time in your life have you had to spend in a terrible situation like that, surviving with friends or simulating survival with friends and that kind of thing. So, you know, these are rare things. You got to take them for what they are. It's going to be, usually when I'm driving this way and I'm doing something like this, I can say things like, it's going to be, usually when I'm driving this way, and I'm doing something like this, I can say things like, it's going to be a blast, I cannot wait. But the truth of the matter is, PBN family, I don't think it is going to be a blast. I think it's going to suck, it's going to be miserable, and I'm going to hate a lot of it.
Starting point is 00:13:22 But it's important to remember, that's not the, it's important to do these things sometimes. Life is not always about soft pillows, and boy were those pillows soft today. The pillows and the covers and the wife next to you, it's like, not even doing it yet, but understanding that what you have to do today Is enough to give you great and deep gratitude, right? And to know that eventually I'll be returning to the sanctum sanctorum To be comfortable and hugged and loved and kissed And, you know, fed and all that
Starting point is 00:13:58 I don't know, man Men need it, I can tell you that much You need it if you're a man You need it I can tell you that much You need it If you're a man You need to go on those great adventures You need to test yourself And uh I guess I'll leave you with this
Starting point is 00:14:14 It's February It's cold It's the lowest point That exists in my year And I've chosen this point To test myself Results incoming Talk to you soon in my year and I've chosen this point to test myself. Results incoming. Talk to you soon.
