Starting point is 00:00:00 We are the Prepper Broadcasting Network. The leaves are falling, PBN family. Wow. It is just windy enough today that the crispy gold is falling to the ground. Now, many Americans, because they're playing a game that they don't even understand they're stuck in. I'm watching them all around my neighborhood. Many Americans are lamenting each and every leaf that falls. Lamenting them.
Starting point is 00:00:36 They're looking at them going like, oh, God, I know what my weekend's going to be. I know I got to power up the leaf blower. I know what my weekend is going to be. Damn leaves. See, that's a mindset that is so unbelievable that you could take a thing like a leaf. There's one better, though. You could take a thing like a leaf
Starting point is 00:00:58 and you could turn it into compounding stress. You know what I mean? Because you think about this pristine yard. What are the levels of stress that the average American has undertaken over a green grass front yard and backyard? You ever think about it? The money and the stress over a green grass backyard and front yard. I got the grass.
Starting point is 00:01:24 We got to aerate, and we got to fertilize, and we got to water, water, water, water, water, and then we got to make sure that we cut it just right, and oh, God, it's too long. I got to cut it again, and it can't get too long. It doesn't look right. It can't be too short, or it won't grow back. And before you know it, you've wrapped up money,
Starting point is 00:01:43 real hard-earned money, and mental capacity in your brain over grass. Grass. Ground cover. There's a million things like this. It's probably worth a book. There's a million things like this. It's probably worth a book. There's a ton of things just like this that we Americans drive ourselves completely crazy over. You know one thing the doctor should do away with is when they tell you that by this age your kid should be doing these things. They give you that little sheet to go on.
Starting point is 00:02:24 He should be able to count to this and he should be able to recognize these things and do this and do that. That drives people nuts, man. Talking, walking drives new parents in crazy, totally insane. If you're in a normal, healthy family and you have a normal, healthy kid, right? And he's goo-gooing and ga-ga-ing, they're going to talk. You'll drive yourself crazy. What if he never talks? Now I've got a 12-year-old who argues. Once I had a little beautiful baby who was silent and cooed and gooed and smiled. Now I have a 12-year-old that argues. He's gathered together all his words and enunciations and so on so we can fight.
Starting point is 00:03:06 I'm kidding, Carter. Well, I'm not kidding. I mean, we do argue, but he came to me with the most amazing news last night. Just crazy. I don't know if he's ready for it, but the news that he gave me is just so much. It's just like lacquered with potential. And it's his business, not yours, so I'm not going to tell you. But it's just the miracle of children.
Starting point is 00:03:32 Anyway, my yard is filled with gold. Every one of these leaves I'm watching fall. I've got this great little seat that I'm going to make even better here soon. This great little seat that just gives me the ability to watch the world go by, you know? Not man's world, but nature, natural world. I watch the world go by, man. I watch it go by, and it's beautiful.
Starting point is 00:03:58 And I just, you know, as I'm writing, I'm looking out this window, and it doesn't get any better than right now until perhaps the world is covered in snow, right? Once the world is covered in snow and the trees are bare, that's a toss-up, you know what I mean? For a guy like me, you've got to understand. I was a writer first, podcaster second. Oh, no PBN Daily News today.
Starting point is 00:04:25 I'm just riffing with you, talking about some things. I am getting to a point with these leaves. But allow me. I got a beautiful Pilot pen that sits in a pen holder. I've got various notebooks, books, stacked on this little mini desk that I need to upgrade. I've got all kinds of implements. I've got ink wells.
Starting point is 00:04:47 I've got books lining next to me and acoustic guitar above me. And it's just, there's something about sitting down as a writer and looking out into the world as the day begins, you know? And when it is as breathtaking as it is right now, it's something to be, I mean, it tickles the soul of the artist. Do you know what I mean? Everybody, I don't know if everybody has it, but if you have it in you, you understand what it means to take on the moniker of the artist. I was writing to an artist friend this morning very early. And I said that. That was my recommendation.
Starting point is 00:05:32 You know, she's going through some tough times and stuff. And I said, you know, don't forget to set aside. You have to set aside time outside of deadlines and outside of commissioned work and all that kind of stuff. You have to set aside time to just paint and draw or whatever your creative thing is. You have to embody the artist again. Like the way you would before it was a business, before you were successful, before you had to get up and make and do work for other people that you're blessed to do
Starting point is 00:06:03 so you don't have to go stand at a counter and look across from you at people who are just, as far as I can tell, the most miserable iteration of human being I think I've ever seen. I've said this for years. I think we are truly the spoiled, the most spoiled and miserable generation of all time. Not generation, people. It's not a generation. It's everybody. It's all ages. You see people who are just so incredibly filled with misery.
Starting point is 00:06:37 And they have kind, like, kind monikers on the t-shirts. That's what I always love. Be kind and be nice and love and be anti-racist. And they're looking at you and their face is contorted like Jim Carrey in The Grinch. And you see there's resentment seeping out of their pores. You know what I mean? Yet the leaves fall. Yet the leaves still fall each and every year and they they'll fall for as long as there are trees.
Starting point is 00:07:10 Now, I take rake and I take leaf blower, and I blow all of these, and I get leaves, man. I blow all of these leaves into a compost heap. I mean a heap, a mountainous heap of leaves that will in summertime take the green from the grass that we cut and the food scraps, which maybe makes it not as good a mix as it could be, but whatever. It takes the pine and the chicken manure weekly. And we fold and we fold and we fold and we fold. And over time, it breaks down into everything that we fill our pots with. And from that, from this amount of leaves and grass and scraps and bedding, we can basically get all the compost we need every year.
Starting point is 00:08:02 It's only when I build a new bed or do a new thing do I ever buy any kind of dirt. And this is exactly where I wanted to be. Because I look at these kinds of things as massive benefits, not problems. Like I'm not lamenting the natural world around me that is unstoppable.
Starting point is 00:08:26 You put yourself in such a terrible position to look at the world processes, not mankind processes, but the processes of the world, seasonality, the beauty of it, and then turn it into this lamentatious duty that you have to do several times a week or on the weekend. These goddamn leaves. I got to do out here and rake these. Got to line them up at the top of this. Got to put them in bags.
Starting point is 00:08:55 Whatever it is you got to do. It's literal gold. If you don't have a compost pile, just run them all into the corner of the yard. And turn them from time. Cover it all up with a tarp. Turn it. Food scraps.
Starting point is 00:09:11 Green. Pull out all the garden stuff. Throw it in the pile. I mean, you're literally making food for your food. Do you know what I mean? There's food for your food falling out of the trees right now. I just thought I'd share that with you this morning. I don't know.
