Starting point is 00:00:00 You're listening to PBN. You're a path back to stability. Oh, I your hands up. Oh, I'm so sorry. I think I just realized I played the wrong song, but yeah, either way. Hold on. Yep. That's okay. So regardless, we're going to cut the intro short. I'll get all that straightened out, getting my new sounds out. PBN, good morning on this Saturday morning, January 13th. Are you ready? I mean, good morning, America. It's just what it is. With everything going on, it is interesting. So I do apologize for running a little behind this morning. I did have to update a computer and carry my rug rat with all his toys upstairs so he could have some tummy time while we are here. So what is going on?
Starting point is 00:01:36 I mean, everything is, man, it is out there with everything that's going on with Yemen and the world. Folks, it's almost go time. And I say that in the sense of you need to be prepping. You need to be moving. You need to, if you don't have a plan, you need to start one. You need to make one now. I think it's best for everybody too. With everything that's going on in the world, it's the best thing to do is to look out for yourself and your family and their wellbeing.
Starting point is 00:02:22 And if y'all hear that in the background, he's not sick. When we were sick in our household, right after Christmas, we had bad coughs going on myself and my partner. And, um, so our son, I guess thought it was a trick. And so now he sits there and he repeats and mimics his daddy's cough for fun. So there's a little side note. So if you hear in the background,
Starting point is 00:02:39 it is the baby trying to get attention. Cause he was, yeah. So, yeah, it is, it is getting to be something out there. Here on the East Coast in the Myrtle Beach area, we are seeing a lot of military in the sky. A lot of military airplanes, jets, helicopters. All right, let me see. Getting in the chat, getting that pulled up. Miss Garden Girl making sure I am on my game. Thank you. Love her to death. She is a trooper
Starting point is 00:03:26 and so is Pappy. They are killing it on the fitness, I swear. So out here, we're seeing a lot of fighter jets. We have our guesstimations. I run a Skyradar. You know what, at Garden Girl, iRadar. You know what? At Garden Girl, you are absolutely correct. So for those of you who aren't in Element, it is a chat, a private secure chat, you know, that we can easily block out all the spammers, the bots and everything else. So it is very secure in the sense that this is for us. Not everybody, you know, join up, join the chat. It's great. So as Garden Girl said in the chat, the world is a shit show right now. That is an absolute understatement. It really is. We've, we've, we've really stepped into things and things are only going to go from there. I mean, unfortunately it, it is the truth.
Starting point is 00:04:28 mean, unfortunately it, it is the truth. It is the way of things. Like I said, we are seeing jets, we are seeing helicopters and they are flying without the radar on. So I don't know if they're doing mock-ups. I don't know if they are doing checks that I think they're probably doing a lot of training, but either way, um, to have so many military, so much military in the sky without radar on, you know, really says a lot. I mean, I get having training procedures, but this is, yeah, this is, this has been a lot. Oh, I don't know. He grabbed the curtain. Nope. No, no, no. Not the curtain. Okay. Sorry about that.
Starting point is 00:05:15 So I am seated next to a window, and this child decided he is going to grab the curtain. Okay. So, I mean, we see what's going on with the world. We see what's... Folks, if this is not enough motivation for you to start being proactive, to start doing what you need to do for your family, then I'm sorry. You're going to wait till it's too late. And yes, I understand times are hard right now. Money is hard right now. I absolutely get that. Start with a plan.
Starting point is 00:05:54 Okay? You don't have to break the bank to get yourself where you need to be. It will take time. And that's why you need to start now. I'm not going to sugarcoat it. You need to start now because preparing and being ready for anything that is thrown your way is vital. Absolutely vital because our families are on the line. We are our caretakers. We are the caretakers of our home. If not most of us, all of us are. I know.
Starting point is 00:06:30 I love your babies. Sorry. Garden Girl said she couldn't believe her eight-year-old, her eight-year-old daughter. Sorry. Her, no. Her eight-year-old child said that they couldn't believe she said that. I love it. And you know what? It's the truth, though. It's not that you're trying to sugarcoat, because I think that's the problem with so much today, is you have to wear these gloves at all times, because people have to be handled with such care.
Starting point is 00:07:04 And I didn't grow up in a time like that. I didn't. And I get, y'all didn't either. And that's what kills me is I grew up in a time where if someone said something rude, you either got over it, as my mother liked to say, got over it or got therapy. And you know what? It was just cheaper to get over it. People are going to say things you don't like. It doesn't mean that they are trying to be some kind of way. Nowadays though, I'm to the point, I don't care if I hurt your feelings. I'm sorry. You know what? I'm not. I'm sorry you're so sensitive to your own needs, but so insensitive to everybody else. And that's the problem with the world is we are seeing people who are taking a step back
Starting point is 00:07:59 because they think, oh, I can't do this because someone said, no, step up. The government's not going to take care of you. You're an auntie down the street. If y'all got a plan, great. But you still have to be proactive. You do. You have to take the steps to take care of yourself, to take care of your family, to know what to do in a tight situation. So I have a best friend who lives eight hours north of me and one of the worst places I
Starting point is 00:08:34 think to ever live in if SHTF hits. And I love her to death and I would love to have her on my team because she is amazing. She is great with children. She's a teacher in the sense that she, she would be who I, I would trust her 100% in the care of my children. I mean, a hundred percent. And we were talking the other day, she even asked, where are we going to meet? And it broke my heart. And she knew I was honest. I was like, I'm sorry, but I can't go north. I can't. And it to go in that direction for me, in my opinion, to put myself in a heavily populated area goes against my plan,
Starting point is 00:09:27 mine and my partner's plan, his and my plan for our family, for ourself. We, and he grew up in that same area. And he said, that's the worst place to be. And I had to tell her, unless you can make it down towards me, I can't meet you anywhere. And she completely understood. And y'all, y'all have to understand people's feelings are going to get hurt and people are going to hurt your feelings, but in planning and in preparing, you have to be realistic on certain things. thanks. Oh, exactly. Sorry. So if it, so one less takeout meal a week for people can put,
Starting point is 00:10:19 you can be put to prep. It's a simple start. Sorry, garden girl. I jumped for a second. Yes. So that's, that's what I'm getting at is she's on hard times. I'm on hard times. I get that. But people eat out so much today. So much. Take a meal or two out, depending on where you live. That's what, conservatively, $15 a meal. Typically, I think we see people when they go out, I don't think you can get a meal for $20 less than really less than that. So it's usually $15 to $20 a meal. That's $15 or $20 a person on one meal that you could put up. That is $15 to $20 that could go towards groceries, food, anything you need for an emergency situation.
Starting point is 00:11:08 You know, having alternate means to be able to take care of yourself is absolutely vital. I look at, and these same things don't work just for the extremes. They work for bad weather, you know, anything that could potentially happen. Actually, just a few days ago, neighbor's house burnt down. I don't know them. They're on the subdivision right next to us, but we witnessed it as it went up in flames. And it's like, wow, what? It really made me and my partner think, what if that was us?
Starting point is 00:11:41 What if our neighbors, who aren't supposed to, are smoking inside? We live in a duplex and our neighbors smoke inside theirs all the time. All the time. They have their back porch closed in, covered in cardboard boxes, which is a fire hazard in its own. And they're smoking all the time in and out of there. And it's part of the reason I keep renter's insurance because if our stuff was to go up, we would be destitute. And that is our preparation for life itself is having renter's insurance because you don't know what's going to happen around you. Nothing could happen. Nothing at all. But all it takes is that one time for something small, just that small ignition and
Starting point is 00:12:32 poof, everything's gone. So look at where you're spending is. Do you really need that streaming service you're using? Rephrase. Do you really need all six streaming services that you're using? Because I don't think too many people are just using one or two anymore. There's usually like four. Yeah, typically, you know, you've got people with YouTube TV. I'm not saying don't have to television. I'm not saying don't have a means to entertain yourself, but okay. Prime example. We're a good example. We have, I have Disney Plus and Hulu. I've had them for years and I've decided to get rid of them. Now, mind you, it's probably perfect timing because for the last three days, Disney Plus has not been working in our house. I have
Starting point is 00:13:18 it because my son likes to watch Bluey, my girls, my other children. But it's like, you know, Louie, my girls, my other children. But it's like, you know, what's the point in spending this extra expenditure when I can pull the same stuff up on YouTube and it doesn't cost me? Yeah. A few more things. There's commercials on both anymore. I mean, realistically. So, um, don't need that. Don't need Disney Plus, you know? Yeah. It's nice to be able to sit down and watch a show or watch TV. I'm still a person with DVD, so I'm not worried there. I can get rid of my Hulu. We could get rid of Netflix. You know, we do have Amazon prime. So it's, it's just a go show. We alone are example. We have four streaming services for, Oh Oh, no, no. Five. I have Spectrum TV, which came with my internet. So that in its own. Okay. Okay. So that in its own, you know,
Starting point is 00:14:22 that was a deal. I'm not going to lie. That came free with my internet, supposedly air quotes, everything costs, everything has a cost somewhere. So look at that. Look at how much you're spending on your meals, plan out your meals. That's a big one for me. If I go grocery shop and I know exactly what meals I can make from it. And then I put a few extra cans up. Our Walmart over the last month went through where they were marking down because they're bringing out a whole new stock. So that means they have marked down what's on the shelf, even if it's not expired, it's been on the shelf longer than, you know, their amount of time in which it needs to sell. So it goes, drops down before they restock. Look for that because I was
Starting point is 00:15:11 able to buy my organic natural sugar-free grape jelly, whatever it was for a dollar jar. It's a $3 jar. I don't typically buy it, but it was a nice luxury. And when they marked it down to $1.50, I took it. I took right up on that. Look at your expenses. I'm one of those individuals who uses a shopping calculator. Anytime I go shopping, I use my apps. I will compare my Kroger and my Walmart or wherever it is I like to shop. Speaking of which, Kroger has had some spectacular deals for $5.99 a pound on their ground beef for the Loras and for one of their choice branches. You may want to check in your region, but that is definitely a steal for $5.99 a pound.
Starting point is 00:16:05 Especially since most of this meat, oh, big yawn, most of this meat is going for $8.99, $9.99. So just keep that in mind. See, that's, that's another thing. Look at where you can save money. And it may, people are like, oh, it's, it's just a dollar. Or I bought a bunch of chicken, And people are like, oh, it's just a dollar. Or I bought a bunch of chicken, which I bought a bunch of meat the other day. Today is going after this. I am going to Teddy House and vacuum seal and put all that up and mark dates on it because that's what my Saturdays are for, is for talking to my listeners, getting my house in order, getting my food prepped, you know, getting all of that frozen.
Starting point is 00:16:44 getting my house in order, getting my food prepped, you know, getting all of that frozen. I like having so many pounds of ground beef sealed and put up. I like knowing that my meals are set. It's just how it makes things work for us. Exactly. Our garden girl said her croaker did the same thing. Same, except I've been having issues with the app and I was lucky enough. I found a worker who would honor it because, well, their app and their website is not working for the digital coupons. So talk to someone, but check it out because it was actually a good deal. I use Laura's, it's Laura's something and it is a grass fed type of ground beef. I prefer going to a homestead in which I can get grass-fed, but this is the closest. It's, um, they have a 93.7, 93.8, sorry,
Starting point is 00:17:36 93, something, something along those lines on the beef. It's a very extra lean meat. I love it. The texture's great. It's not gritty or gristly with the little bit of fat that's in beef. It's a very extra lean meat. I love it. The texture's great. It's not gritty or gristly with the little bit of fat that's in there. It cooks up well. It doesn't disappear like other meats in which they cook down because there's so much fat in it. So I have a hard time with a lot of the other commercial chuck. I can't eat. Don't care for Angus only because it's so stringy. So it's just goes to show I have my personal preference. I know you do too. So that's something to look into. But look at what you have for your family. Just for hard times alone, that is a big one. We're going to be coming up on a growing season soon.
Starting point is 00:18:27 So I'm looking forward to trying out my new projects for trying to grow my plants and seeing how that works. I do have to prep our tiny little raised bed I have because our neighbor's cats, all 12 of them, think it is their personal litter box, which is so much fun. So if anybody has any tips or tricks for keeping the neighbor's cats out of it, that would be wonderful because I'm pretty sure that's why half of my tomatoes didn't make it last year. I had to keep running a cat out of it so that that was fun but yeah I'm just thinking about everything that's going on with the world and it is it is chaotic out there okay we thought the world was crazy enough as it is
Starting point is 00:19:29 enough as it is. See, he's happy. But that, that right there, what you hear in the background, that little one, your little one, that should be motivation enough. Knowing that I want to take care of my partner. I want to take care of our child. I want to make sure my children are fine. That's a big deal. Knowing that I can do that is key. So yes, times are hard. There are programs for those. I've mentioned this on my last show, you know, look into what is around you. Look into what you can do. Certain things are go on clearance at a certain time of year. Look into that if you can. Okay. So what I like to do, and this sounds silly is a one year I stock up on socks.
Starting point is 00:20:18 We tend to go through socks and wear them out pretty good, but that's something to keep in mind. Um, another time, uh, underwear, you know, choose when you do it, make sure you're able to. But I mean, I'm one of those people for the holidays. I tell people I love socks. I do. So if I get a bunch of socks one year, which I, we had our mother one year went overboard with socks for everybody, not complaining. I'm one of those people. I ask for something that I can use that can benefit me. So my next goal right now is additional heat and source. We do live in a duplex with a fireplace.
Starting point is 00:20:57 Unfortunately, though, the fireplace was, the upper half was completely removed. So we just have an insert. Not great. It doesn't do anything. So what I want to do is do like I did when I lived in Mississippi. I want to get a kerosene heater. So that's another thing is looking into that. Yes, kerosene is expensive, but it is a great heat and source.
Starting point is 00:21:23 I used it in a big house when I lived in one in Mississippi, and it worked for us, especially when our heat-in was out or the power was out. To be able to stay warm is key. We are individuals who, with where we live, we typically keep to ourselves only because our neighbors are not of the same mindset and they are not individuals I personally care for. And that is just a personal thing. I do believe in community. James is a prime example of how community helps. And my community, though, is so spread out, the people I trust and the people I'm prepared with, that it does make it a little difficult. But for me, I don't have a relationship with my neighbors, and I'm okay with that. These aren't people who just within living here around them for the last two years are people who manage or are able to cope.
Starting point is 00:22:33 And that is unfortunate. But when it comes down to it, you have to be realistic on who you can include and who you cannot include with certain emergencies. cannot include with certain emergencies. When the neighbor's house was burning, we do have some refugees who live in a home over from us. That has been interesting in its own and nothing against them. But when she saw the fire, she was panicking, running around, and I had to go over and use my translation app and tell her it's okay. Emergency's on the way. You don't have to fret, you know, all as well. I just try to keep it basic. So let's see. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:23:19 See, that's wonderful. So Garden Girl, that is one thing I miss about where I used to live is we had a Super Kroger in which they sold clothes and I did do the same thing. So Garden Girl in the chat says, yes, our Kroger has an amazing clearance on clothes. I always buy sizes up when it goes 90% off. I got zip up hoodies for $1.50. You know what? That is amazing.
Starting point is 00:23:42 I've done the same thing. I will go around Walgreens and one year for the emergency bags for each of my children that all three have, I think I paid a quarter a piece because their backpacks were clearance. And these were bags that were actually pretty sturdy and great for, you know, each child had their own. It worked great. So I get it. Do not, you know, if it's something that you can use and it can be beneficial to your family, then why not? I always check out the clearance rack at any store I go to, Walmart, anywhere.
Starting point is 00:24:19 I do the same with the meat department in Kroger, where we are. You can find some great deals. And sometimes it's things that you don't think about. So for example, we weren't able to do a big Christmas at all. Actually, we weren't able to do gifts at all for each other. Um, I was able to make sure I could give gifts to, we gave gifts to my three older, but beyond that, we weren't able to do Christmas and that's okay. It happens. Um, in the sense that I did go through the clearance aisle and I did find, um, they had their blankets. They had these big emergency thermal, they looked almost like woobie blankets marked down to $10. So I did get one of those to give to my partner
Starting point is 00:25:15 so he could keep it in his truck. Cause that's a big thing is he's always on the road. I made sure he has hot hands because he's out at five o'clock in the morning. And whether it's cold, raining, hot, he's out. So I got him things that he could keep in his truck. So on those days that it's super cold first thing in the morning, okay, don't have to worry about him being cold. Or if he breaks down or what have you, because you've got to think about life always throws us curveballs. Always. Yeah. And buying a size up never hurts. You know, it's a crime example.
Starting point is 00:25:55 My own personal example is when I was pregnant with Jericho with my son. Um, I, as us moms know, babies don't stay small for long. So I didn't buy, but maybe two, three newborn outfits. Didn't know how big the baby was going to be. There's no point in it. And so I bought three to six months, three months, six to nine months, 12 months, always bought up. And my partner was like, why, why? I'm like, you'll, you'll understand soon enough. And this is why we buy sizes up, especially for children. They never stop growing. You never know how quickly those children are going to get hit a
Starting point is 00:26:46 growing spurt or get big. My son just turned five months old. Actually at three months old, you know, he was already fitting into six to nine month clothing because three months clothing was too small. Six to nine months was a little big, he could fit in it he is five months old six to nine months fit him with no problem and he's actually wearing some 12 month clothing so it goes to show buying up in a size is not going to hurt especially when it comes to children and they don't stay small for long i have a daughter who jumped three shoe sizes in a month and a half. Went up three shoe sizes. That was an interesting year.
Starting point is 00:27:32 But it just goes to show children are going to constantly grow. So buying a size up is okay. I would do the same thing when my eldest son was small. We lived in Arkansas. We'd get snow and ice storms. So when the Dickey or Carhartt coveralls went on clearance, I would buy, I would actually for him, I would buy two to three sizes up because by the next cold spout, yes, it may still be a little big, but it fit him well enough and we could get wear out
Starting point is 00:28:06 of it same with the carhartt coats i'd wait till tractor supply or wherever would mark them down and i would buy them a size or two up because you know those are great gear to have especially if so I mean that that is another way so we don't have to break the bank with prepping um a lot of things do take time I have I have way too many candles but I am a fan of emergency candles. Now I hate that Dollar Tree became $1.25 tree and up, but I used to buy their tall candles and I have a bunch of those, but because those actually did great as the number amount of times I've had to use them. They are amazing. Um, but price shop, uh, Walmart, I think sells a set of three for three dollars something and one um dollar tree it's a dollar 25 now instead of a dollar so if you look at the comparison it's cheaper to buy the pack but you know see what's good for you oh bless it
Starting point is 00:29:19 oh size 11 and men's shoes. You're 13 year old. God bless. See, my partner is a size 13 foot and we have a friend with a size 15. They're adults. So I can only imagine. Oh, he is fussing about me. Come here. Come here.
Starting point is 00:29:46 That is right. Come here. Come here. That is right. Come here. Yep, listeners. That's right. Kind of like the previous show, my family will always be involved in what I do because they are a part of everything that I do. They are the driving motivation. They are the key. And he's just watching this and all. So let's see. But yeah, I just, I mean, pay attention. If I, I'm not saying go watch the news for all the
Starting point is 00:30:22 propaganda and speech. I mean, the hate and everything that's going on, but pay attention to what's going on outside of you. Pay attention to what's going on around of you because there are things happening right now in front of us that we are not paying attention to. And you're going to have so many people when things or if things pop off say, I didn't know. I had no idea. Yes, you did. You just failed to look beyond the end of your nose to see what was going on. I think that's vital. Pay attention. Things get tough. Things get hard. And people are going to be like, oh, well, things like this happen all the time. You're right. But you still need to be aware of what's
Starting point is 00:31:13 going on around you. You're not going to walk into a busy street without looking both ways. I mean, without looking up to make sure you don't get hit, are you? You're going to keep your head in your cell phone as you keep walking down? Plenty of people do, actually. But that's the whole point. You don't cross a street without looking both ways. You don't walk down an alley or anywhere without being vigilant to who and what is around you. And not anyone with any common sense wouldn't.
Starting point is 00:31:43 You know, you've got to look. You've got to pay attention. You've got to be aware. And I'm over here hounding on it, but come on, folks. You've got to. Oh, I could just go on a rant on that alone. Just the things that I watch around me. You know, I've had plenty of discussions with random
Starting point is 00:32:06 strangers in stores and it's just astounding of how many people are in agreement and how many people just, oh, I just don't have time. It just takes a few minutes. I'm not saying sacrifice and sacrifice your whole day. You know, if you are, if you are active in your own life, active and everything that else that goes around you, then why can't you be active and preparing while you're doing that for your family? What is wrong with sitting down and having a plan? What is wrong with sitting down and having a conversation? Okay, so your partner's not a prepper. Been there, done that. I was still able to prep. My partner wasn't into prepping like me. My ex wasn't into prepping like me, and that's fine. Your spouse, your partner doesn't have to be active in it like you. Does it help?
Starting point is 00:33:06 Absolutely it helps. Does it give encouragement when they are? Yes, 100%. I am very fortunate this time around. I have a partner who, you know, may not 100% agree with mine, but understands where I'm coming from and why and everything else. understands where I'm coming from and why and everything else. I can admit though, that with my ex, my prepping had rubbed off on him in a sense of now he is more vigilant about certain things, keeps the garden going, whatever it may be. But that, that's key. So going back to your,
Starting point is 00:33:40 your partner doesn't prep and that's okay. Does your partner hold you back from prepping? That's my first question. Now, any good partner, spouse, boyfriend, girlfriend, any good one of those won't hold you back from something that could be beneficial to the family. They may not understand. And I've had that where my, I don't understand, but I do support you. Or I don't understand. As long as it doesn't hurt us financially, I'm fine with it. That's what we run into a lot of. Now, if you have a partner who just says, no, I'm not going to do this. This is a mess. I don't want to see this. You're not using this. You're not doing that. I ran into that too. Guess what? Don't stop prepping. Don't, don't pull away and start hiding what you're, I mean, well, okay, you are going to
Starting point is 00:34:37 hide your preps, but you can be smart about it. And I've done that. And where I had to keep it, where it could not be seen doesn't make you a bad person. Because when times get tough, and we know they do, we've lived life, and most of us have lived enough life to know it happened several times. Times are going to get tough. Things are going to get difficult. And having those preps make all the difference. And then it's like, oh, well, I have this. Well, where'd that come from? Well, I took out of my own money or I budgeted or I was crafting to bring a little extra income on the site.
Starting point is 00:35:16 I love to crochet. I love to spin yarn. I love to craft. I sew. I embroider. I hand embroider. I machine embroidery. I do all of it.
Starting point is 00:35:23 I sew, I embroider, hand embroider, machine embroidery. I do all of it. I would love to someday make a living off of those crafts and hobbies because it's helped me get by since I was a small child financially. But I can say over the years, that crafting has paid for my children's Christmas, has paid for itself, has paid for my children's Christmas, has paid for itself, has paid for my hobbies. Heck, one year it was the vital reason I was able to make it to and from Prepper Camp because things were so hard. And that's fine.
Starting point is 00:35:58 So keep in mind, there are ways to be able to do this with or without your partner's support and without breaking the bank. Side hustles are amazing. Exactly. Okay. So Garden Girl says her partner doesn't hold me back. Sometimes rolls his eyes, but then brings home a case of tuna. Exactly. Exactly. I have, um, you know, my last partner, my ex-husband, um, didn't want to see the preps. Didn't care what I did as long as he didn't have to see it because to him it was cluttered. He never wanted to see it. So we had a space. Um, I had my own spaces in the house and which we had in the kitchen, one whole lower cabinet and which he was never allowed to look in and he never looked in it. And that's because that was
Starting point is 00:36:53 my backup cabinet to the pantry. I had put, I'd taken an old bookshelf, closed bookshelf with the doors and turned into a pantry next to the fridge. So we had, you know, more shelving because that's what we needed. We didn't have a lot of space. And he goes, I just won't look in there. And that's where our agreement was. Now, wherever else I have to hide the preps, fine. He didn't care how much I prepped or what I prepped as long as he never had to see it. And you know what? It worked for us. It worked for the almost 10 years we were together. And that's okay. And see, and like this, your partner, you know, doesn't hold you back, may roll his eyes at you, but okay, I'm the surprise of, look what I brought home because I thought of you because I know this is your thing. Well, not only is he thinking of you, not only is he knows he's supporting you, but unknowingly,
Starting point is 00:37:54 he's also supporting his entire family. And I think in a sense, now he's figuring that out is he got a good deal, knows that y'all can use it, knows that y'all eat it, and he's making you happy in the same time. Bam. You, man, that man is winning points across the board for that one. So what's funny is when, I'm going to digress for a second. When I started podcasting, um, for the, when we were on, um, what was that we were using? My brain just stopped. I remember it cause it was never the most reliable source, but who we were streaming through.
Starting point is 00:38:35 Um, but Glenn had gotten me onto Previn or sorry, Glenn and James were really pushing for me to podcast and, uh, God rest his soul and bless him. He was an amazing man and forever will be, and I'll forever be grateful. But we were talking and, you know, there was a push, Hey, you should come and talk, you know, you prep. And I've been prepping since forever. It seems like, and I've been a listener forever. been prepping since forever, it seems like, and I've been a listener forever. And we were talking and the number of women who prep outnumbers the amount of men. And we had this whole conversation that a lot of women are preppers and his diet, his, his, um, demographic, because we had this whole chart in which you could see the male to
Starting point is 00:39:25 female demographic with everything, the female demographic tripled the male demographic. And it's not surprising because a lot of women tend to their households, tend to prep, tend to care, but they don't talk about it. They don't want to, you know, don't see it in the same light. A lot of men are, you know, very gung-ho and, oh, I'm doing this. But it's amazing out there is the number of women who prep, who don't see it that way or don't get the recognition for it. And it's not shaming you men by any means, but it's just, it's astounding to see that. And it goes both ways. We have men who prep and the wives just don't get it. But here's the thing for you men out there who have wives who don't prep
Starting point is 00:40:19 and for you women who have husbands who don't prep, do not ever force it on your partner. I'm not saying stop prepping by any means, but do not ever force it. Because if you force it, you're going to get resistance. When you get resistance, that's when you get aggression in the sense of negative feedback and everything else. You can prep, but if you try to force your partner to prep, you're not doing yourself any favors. Mine over time, over the 10 years that, or almost 10 years we were together, it was a, okay, I see what you're doing.
Starting point is 00:40:59 I see you and I know that I have to keep you safe because you'll keep me safe. So the over time time they see that and we hear stories and stuff and you think about it. If you're able to take care of your family, that, that shows your partner's gonna be like, oh, you do this thing. Yes. Okay. Sorry, folks.
Starting point is 00:41:21 If that was really loud, he's excited too. So I mean, pay attention. Sorry, folks, if that was really loud. He's excited too. So, I mean, pay attention, please, please. I'm beating on the dead horse here, but it's definitely something you need to be aware of. You need to be vigilant about. People go through so much and don't realize how just few little things can do so much. I want to play one of our new bumpers because James has been doing some stellar work here. I mean, some stellar, stellar, stellar work. And I've been throwing ideas at this poor man left and right. And so make sure your preps are close. I mean, that's another thing. I mean,
Starting point is 00:42:18 we'll see if I can, I want to, yeah. Okay. So I was making sure it was still alive while I'm trying to add. Let's see. Let's add this one. Ouch. Yikes. He just yanked my headphones. So if that was loud on y'all i am so sorry bless you bless you so garden girl since you are here in the chat i'm gonna put you in the hot seat
Starting point is 00:42:55 what have you found when prepping for your partner or even a prepping advice you'd give to the listeners out there who don't prep, who need to start prepping. Think about that. I'm going to go to a quick commercial. I'm going to get him situated and then we'll be right back in Garden Girl. I'm going to put you on the spot. I'm going to read that answer. So get ready. Okay. On the brink of blackouts again, as power demand reached an all timetime record high overnight slivers of the golden state plunged into darkness he's scheduled outage on thursday but the one that happened sunday it wasn't scheduled it was unexpected and it lasted longer than a day point zero energy has

Starting point is 00:44:32 power hello welcome to the podcast present your vaccine passport enter your social credit score and be sure you have enough remaining carbon credits to enjoy today's show your garden is the resistance how stellar was that james is killing it with these sounds killing it i love it love it love it all right oh what was the question so the question is is oh i don't even remember. Well, it was, all right. And so what, what preps or, you know what, what, what advice, you know, we'll just go with this. What advice would you give someone out there not prepping? What advice would you give them on where to start? On your opinion?
Starting point is 00:45:30 And then sidetrack, what advice would you give to a prepper whose partner doesn't prep and start now? I mean, I'm down for either or. Because I know what I did. I've had many partners who've never prepped and this was nice to have a partner. Now, this is actually my first partner who is a prepper. Like I, well, we both are preppers, but in very different senses, we are very opposites on the board for our type of prepping just because of where, you know, where we're from uh how we've lived i mean
Starting point is 00:46:07 there's been very contrast to each other and see i see mad dog in the room but you're not responding hi mad dog and hi to anybody else i mean jump in listen in, listen. Oh, and that's another thing. So I am such a open prepper while she's typing. I'm such an open prepper that I have been pushing, uh, prepper camp and prepper broadcast and network to everybody, my new dentist, uh, his dental assistants, because you know what? I think everybody, if you don't, if you haven't, take the time to look into Prepper Camp. Join us. It's in Saluda, North Carolina in September. Tickets are on sale at PrepperCamp.com. Get them while they're still there. It is an amazing event for everybody. It is family oriented, so everybody can be there. We're seeing more children
Starting point is 00:47:05 every year. I think it is absolutely wonderful. Rick and Jane Austin are two of the best people in the entire world. I love them like family, truth be told. So it is definitely something to look into. Jane and Rick Austin are amazing individuals who have published many books, who are big in the prepping community. Actually, Rick is known as the godfather of prepping. Big yawn. And it is something to look into. I mean, we teach, there's three days, 64 classes, thousands of people.
Starting point is 00:47:43 It is honestly fun. You learn everything from my class, which is textiles to, um, I speak about it, but it's, it's a lot more than just that. Um, we have bee keeping self-defense, Sarah Hathaway from the change in earth podcast. Uh, she's there. Chin's there. I mean, everybody, it is totally something you want to check out. And then a quick plug too, is look into Roven Blue. Okay. I do have to get their commercial put up on here, but Roven Blue is a water, it is an ozone device. They have a pen, they have the lid that goes onto the water bottle. They have full systems in which you can install your in your house. And I actually use the ozone pen itself.
Starting point is 00:48:31 And it is amazing technology. Amazing. I've actually done several interviews with Yana, who is the owner and inventor of Roven Blue. So I definitely check that out as well. I will start posting things not only on my Instagram, but here on PBN so we can start getting people to look at that. And I do have a discount code of Phoenix Survival for anyone who is interested. So do look into Roven Blue. All right, let's see.
Starting point is 00:49:00 Okay. As Garden Girl says, COVID really brought my hubby around more. He now keeps his eye out for good deals. If I grab one, he'll ask if I don't want more. Start getting things they like. Prep for local issues, i.e. tornadoes, fires, and earthquakes. That will make more sense to them when starting. Absolutely, I agree with you. The biggest issue I see with people when they start prepping is they buy a bunch of things they don't normally eat. They buy a bunch of goods they don't use and or worse, they don't know how to prepare or how to use or how their family will eat it. So do start. I agree 100% with Garden Girl, start with things that you'll use. Prep for the small things.
Starting point is 00:49:47 I mean, that's what we do. I grew up in Tornado Alley, so we always made sure we had emergency bags for that. Flooding, fires, earthquakes, loss of work, tornado, you name it. Yes, we always prep for that. I always included glow sticks, some of the heavy duty ones. I've got some military grade ones and then some for the kids, for power outages, for when the car breaks down, you know, yes, start for local things. It does make sense. And when they start seeing that, it makes them understand. So for us, so much back noise, I'm so sorry. So for us, I'm having so much back noise.
Starting point is 00:50:23 I'm so sorry. For us, you know, now I live in an area that gets hurricanes. So now preparing for that type of weather. Our drinking water here isn't exactly safe on the right day. Our water smells like wet dog. So hence why I use water filtration and the ozone pen to purify and clean my water. And then we also do a lot of bottled and gallon waters just so we have a good drinking source because the water's not always reliable. It's just not. And that's not something you want to risk. You have to have water to survive. Let's see. Let's see. Now I am a big one on, oh, here we go. And if you're new to prepping,
Starting point is 00:51:11 don't try and start grand. Do what you can afford. A couple more cans of food or bags of rice when shopping. Don't buy stuff you don't eat or won't use. Store water and water purification. Water is life. Exactly. See, this is, this is where everybody is. Look at the basics. Boy, you are yanking this headset. I've got to figure something else out. Oh, he's got me all tangled up. Karate hands. This kid is fast. All right, there we go. But yeah, don't, don't go over the top. I mean, yes, you see people with brand new gadgets and gear and I'm, I'm not going to lie. I'm very envious of everyone who has a freeze dryer. I want one so bad so I can freeze dry my breast milk so I can freeze dry. Yes, that sounds crazy, but having shelf stable milk for my son, you know, breast milk doesn't last forever. In a deep freezer, a year or two
Starting point is 00:52:12 at the max, maybe. In the freezer, six months to a year, depends on the type of freezer. You know, in the fridge, only four days. So my big thing is I would love to be able to have that because it's so beneficial for him um yeah so that's like my guilty want is a freeze dryer for food and to make it easier to put up and lighter storage and cooking up meals and just yes i i love that idea but that's not something we can afford right now it's not something that's in the book. So I have a dehydrator. I have a canner. I have a freezer. I have a vacuum sealer. So I will do what I can with what I have and make it work for my family. There's no point in, you know, breaking the bank for something we can't afford when i have plenty of things i can do within our own parameters
Starting point is 00:53:06 you know it's no yeah there's no reason this little man still gets everything he needs my family still gets fed our food still gets put away and that's that's what's key you know it does suck that there's certain things I can't buy right away because here on the East Coast, food likes to turn very quickly. I've never had things mold so fast. So be aware of your climate. Be aware of the humidity. Be aware of when you buy things, how well will it last in certain conditions or certain states and what time of the year. Be cognizant to where you live and everything that's going on around you.
Starting point is 00:53:54 You have to remember to be thoughtful in your actions. Be thoughtful in how you plan. and how you plan. That's key. It is vital. Let's see. I see Garden Girl is typing, which, oh, so I do want to let you know next week, next Saturday, I won't be live exactly. I am doing a collab with, um, Tim, Toolman Tim tomorrow. Uh, we are talking about the north and south prepping in which i'm going to also see if i can get that audio and post it here um hold on she's saying that was something i was so excited about my hubby oh yes i see and that is something is all right so she excited about my hubby. Oh yes. I see. And that is something is all right. So she said her, her hubby bought it for her as a gift. And that goes to show if you are passionate about what you do, um, you're not forceful, what you do to your partner,
Starting point is 00:54:58 you know, something like that is sweet. You know, my partner said, if there's something I really want, I told him as time goes on, I make a list of things that I say that I want. Like I want the kerosene heater. I want one. We could use one. We need one. Maybe not need as in right now.
Starting point is 00:55:15 Hi. Oh, you're not actually here right now. Okay. Sorry. Mad Dog's not here, but we will give good notice. Sorry about that. But keep a list. So for me, my family, specifically, my mother is one of those who likes to try to do one good gift every year. And so I write a list and I tell her, okay, these are things I could use. And these are things that I would like.
Starting point is 00:55:50 And we'd go from there. So she knows that I'm one of those of, okay, well, can I have a deep freezer this year? You know, Lowe's had a $200 one, $215 deep freezer, a little six foot one. You know what? Works great for our space. Works great for what we need. We didn't get it this year because things got a little tough. But you know what?
Starting point is 00:56:13 That's okay. It's just a goal. And then we have a list here in the house of things we'd like. And we set a goal towards which ones we can try to get. So you don't have to kill yourself with getting ahead. It really is that simple. I mean, there's no point in killing yourself over it. Buy a few things though.
Starting point is 00:56:40 So I am going to suggest though, just for, and maybe Garden Girl will agree or you will agree, stock up on a few things. All right. Yes. Toilet paper. We all need toilet paper. Soap, shampoo, hygiene products.
Starting point is 00:56:57 I always buy extra toothbrushes and toothpaste because those seem to disappear very quickly in our house for some reason. Because those seem to disappear very quickly in our house for some reason. And it's just to keep in mind, you know, you've got to take care of that. You've got to take care of your health and your well-being and your family. This little man right here can't do anything without me and his daddy. And I'm going to do what I can. If that's not motivation enough, then I'm sorry.
Starting point is 00:57:25 I don't know what to tell you. But folks, it's almost past the point of being ready now. Unfortunately, we are seeing it. There are signs all around us. And you need to be vigilant. You need to. The world is getting too crazy not to with everything that's going on. It's just too crazy. All right, let me see. I think I have a note here. Oh, see, yep. Mom got you extra trays for the freeze dryer. See, and that's something my mother will ask hey do you
Starting point is 00:58:05 need more of this or do you need more of that and I'm like you know I again I'm a sock girl I tell my mother or my mother-in-law socks please I like socks I have no problem with socks I have no problem with comfy clothes um I am also one of those people who I tell people if they, you know, aren't sure, just give me a gift card. Gift cards are great in our family. I usually end up with either Amazon or Visa gift cards, which is great because then I can use those towards prep items. Like there are some seeds, I buy specific seeds from specific places because I only buy heirloom. And, um, that that's a big one for me is, you know, if you ever want to give a gift and nothing wrong with that, because then it can be used exactly how,
Starting point is 00:59:05 And nothing wrong with that because then it can be used exactly how or exactly where you want it. For me, my money gets spent on typically things that we need. And then if there's plenty, I will get the seeds that we need. And then my little guilty pleasure is I do like books. I mean, I do all these extra hobbies, but it's, it's nice for me. I enjoy having, so my guilty pleasure is, um, Victory Garden books. I haven't been able to get any, but I love that. So that is, that's something for me. Now I did, I want to, I want to do a quick call out on something before we wrap this
Starting point is 00:59:45 up. But if you are not on Rumble or any, any other outlet, go on there. Okay. I'm going to start doing video recordings with these and stream live on there while I'm recording. And James does a live in the mornings or evenings. It just varies. I think he's trying to stick with mornings now for PBN on Instagram.
Starting point is 01:00:11 And we are out there. We're on these networks. Pay attention. I know we broadcast all over all sorts of streamers. But yeah, he goes on in the morning and it's like a morning sit down with him like i used to do in the mornings in our group chat where i'd have a video time and i think it's wonderful uh and garden girl i'm gonna talk back to when y'all were showing he his dog ate up his I have to remedy that. The wool furg that your son or your child got. Oh, see, that's what I'm talking about. She said her in-laws got her a Lowe's gift card. They know her so well. And
Starting point is 01:00:56 absolutely. I'm the same way. Because if I'm not building something, planting something, growing something, I mean, it's just, come on. Absolutely. If you're passionate about what you do, there's no mistaking what you like. But I digress. So Garden Girl, we will have to remedy you having a warm gator for running. Okay. I'm just putting that out there. For those of you who don't know, I do, and I said earlier, I do crochet. I do spin wool. I make wool and your basic acrylic clothing, shoes, slippers, sweaters, hats. I have my own fur. I even have the forest, the harvesting bag, forging bag, sorry. And so I am working on getting a bunch
Starting point is 01:01:46 of those made up and getting them posted so y'all can see what I'm talking about. But, um, yeah, if there's anything you need as far as warmth, reach out to me. I do sell my items at Prepper Camp. I actually sold all of my wares and just about everything I made except for one sweater and one baby, um, baby blanket. So, I mean, keep in mind, look at skill sets, look at the things you can do for your family. I, like I said, I crochet, I made my son his winter cardigan that he can even made it big enough that as he grows, he can grow with it. I mean, it can grow with him. Made a wool vest. I just posted it recently.
Starting point is 01:02:31 I have some wool slippers. I mean, and not all wool is coarse, so keep that in mind. The hand spun is more expensive than the wool. The wool is more expensive than the acrylic. It's just how the world works as far far as cost and this child over here is gnawing ouch and making sounds on my shoulder so let's see who else is in here poppy there you are how are you pappy has been killing it with fitness, okay? That's another thing for you listeners. If you are not in Element, you are missing out because we have so many rooms on here
Starting point is 01:03:12 with so many things to offer. We have a fitness challenge going on for 2024 thanks to Pappy and James, our Intrepid Commander. So you definitely want to check that out. We have just to name a couple. So I actually put one up there for prep and projects. Uh, right now we are following individuals with their sourdough starter, which I'm going to be doing mine here pretty soon. Any, any prepping project, we have our open chat room just for fun, you know, the garden and homestead, and there's many, many more. So if you're not an element, sign up, get in there because where else would you want to be than somewhere in which you can speak to other people of the like-minded mindset? I mean, I'm going to be honest.
Starting point is 01:04:14 Once I found PBN, oh God, how long has that been now? 12 years ago? It has been a game changer because it was nice to have other people of the same mindset to talk to. People with like-minded or different, even different views. It's great to have people we can speak to and learn from and give ideas and suggestions and even listen to those ideas and suggestions. So yes, he's super loud. She says, hi Jericho and I'm glad your son loves his Ferg. And so with that being said, I am going to wrap this up. I'm going to have some playtime with little man here before I get onto the rest of today's duties. Yes, Pappy does put us all to shame. I, but I'm going to be honest, I haven't put in the effort like y'all have. So I do have to remedy that.
Starting point is 01:05:05 And I commend y'all. So listeners, I appreciate everything that you do and how you listen every to all of our shows. I mean, there's so many of us, but be vigilant, pay attention, and you need to start being proactive in your own lives because nobody is going to jump to helping in tough times. We have to do it ourselves and we have to look out for our family. And you know what, folks? It has been a pleasure. I hope you have a great Saturday, a great remaining weekend, and I will see you next week. Take care, folks. Always getting closer I'm marching till it's over I'm just like a soldier I keep on moving forward
Starting point is 01:06:11 Always getting closer Marching till it's over I'm just like a soldier I keep on moving forward Always getting closer Marching till it's over Thank you for listening to the Prepper Broadcasting Network, where we promote self-reliance and independence.
