Maybe you know what a zombie is?
When a person dies and is buried, it seems a certain voodoo priests who have the power to bring him back to life.
Horrible.
It's worse than horrible because a zombie has no will of his own.
You see them sometimes walking around blindly with dead eyes, following orders, not knowing what they do, not caring.
You mean like Democrats?
It seems Mamdani's out to create the first New York Autonomous Zone for Halloween.
I'm going to be the first to say it.
I think that he's blocking off 160 streets so kids can safely walk the streets on Halloween without worrying about vehicles.
I guess I'm about as jaded as it comes, PBM family, but whenever I hear someone tell me that they're going to make things safe for kids, it almost turns out to be the opposite completely.
You know what I mean? It's very rare, especially when it's organized, especially when it's government.
You know what I mean? Government related, we're going to make things safe for the kids.
We're going to make things better for the kids. No child left behind, so on and so forth.
And I'm supposed to sit here and trust this isn't going to go down.
Now, I don't think it's going to be a targeted attack on children.
But I do think you're, I do think there's something behind it. I do.
I think that Halloween, some very interesting things will happen in those 160 streets that are blocked off to police vehicles amongst other vehicles.
Now, hopefully I'm wrong, you know, but I, you know, I trust my gut.
And when I first read this, it just, I don't know, it stuck out like a sore thumb to me.
It just made perfect sense.
It sounded like, yeah.
New York City's brand new autonomous Halloween zone.
sponsored by Mom Donnie and the taxpayers in New York.
Not really what I want to talk about today.
What I really want to do is tell everybody that I'm sorry for missing the radio check last night.
I took my son out to go see Donnie Darko because they were playing it in theaters.
And it was so good.
It was so fun to watch him watch Donnie Darko for the first time.
The movie started at 7 and we were getting out at 9.
And I was like, oh, that ain't going to work.
So my apologies.
We'll be right back to it next Sunday, though.
You know?
Nobody's perfect, right?
Just is what it is.
It was a very big weekend.
Very big weekend.
We had a really one of the most amazing field trips I think I've ever been on.
Probably the most amazing field trip I've ever been on.
It was a full scale.
fifth grade camp out overnight job, you know, from early in the morning till the next afternoon.
And I was just really blown away at not only the organization of the field trip, man, as we did like, you know, hikes and activities and fishing and fire starting and shelter building and scavenger hunting and, you know,
The Intrepid Commander created a nice fire for everybody that we, after dinner, we had
s'mores on and, you know, added a bunch of wood to that bonfire.
Built it up real big.
The kids played all night with headlamps on running around.
This is a public, essentially a public school, by the way.
The kids played all night running around the woods or the campsite, rather, with headlamps on.
And it was beautiful.
it was a beautiful thing
it rained almost the whole day
it stopped nothing
and I was really impressed with the kids in that situation
you know what I mean I really was
there was not a lot I don't even remember hearing anybody complain
right
but the rain started to come on stronger
as the night carried on and well into the night
the rain started to pour a little bit and I sat there alone at the fire
I had started
and I walked to the car
and grabbed something I'd brought along for just this situation.
I grabbed the camping percolator and some disaster coffee and headed back over to the fire now that was basically red coals and abandoned.
I told all the parents, you can go to sleep, I'll put the fire out.
A couple lingered on, and I told them I'm going to make coffee if you're interested, because the kids, this time it was probably about 9, 30, 10.
And the kids, they were nowhere near ready to go to sleep, despite having huge day.
You know what I mean?
So I said, you know, I'm just going to make some coffee.
I know it's late, but maybe you're more than welcome to have some.
And, you know, a few parents took me up on the offer.
Some of them just wanted the coffee to stay warm because it was starting to get a little cold, plus they were wet.
And then I headed back to the cabin and let the kids have their fun.
in the cabin while I sat like a sentry on the front porch and drank, well, we played some
board games first, but then I sat like a century on the front porch and just drank coffee.
Yeah, it was a great time, man. It was really, really a great time. I had a ball. I had a ball
and I was blown away and it was, I don't know, you know. I say it a lot, but the world's changing
and it's changing in all kinds of ways, you know.
and you know there are these old lines that we we cling on to these old sort of adages that we cling
on to these things that we assume work and things that we assume don't work you know what i mean
just just a lot of old think if you will and uh you know he i don't know i i guess probably
the most important thing is to each his own right well there's two things they're really i
guess also the power of the individual.
You know what I mean?
Don't underestimate that.
We live in a society of reviewers.
And it's as gross as any reviewer is.
You know what I mean?
But we are like quickly becoming or have become really a society of reviewers and commenters.
And for the most part, onlookers.
And what happened during this camping trip and I've seen this.
happen at events like Prepper Camp and other things in my life is that you get around enough
doers you get around enough people that are willing to do the right thing and put you know instead of
looking at a situation and going huh what's going wrong here what can I complain about here sort of like
Congress they actually get to work and that's what it was it was a bunch of kids and a bunch of
parents who are fully prepared to get whatever work needed to be done done and to have a
great time in doing it and spend as little amount of the time complaining.
And that was what we got.
We got a great event out of that.
But it applies to everything in life.
You know what I mean?
It literally applies to everything in life.
You can look at the world and say it's all falling apart.
It's all coming down.
It's all ruined.
It's all trash.
It's all S-H-T-M.
And you'd be right about some parts of the world, sure.
There are some parts of the world that are like that.
Maybe you look at your part of the world and think it's moving in that direction.
Well, it's probably time you get your hands dirty in your part of town.
And if you say to yourself, I'm unwilling to get my hands dirty in my part of town.
In other words, you know, try to make something, change something.
You know what I mean?
We're in that position here in Virginia.
Abigail Spanberger is just letting felons out of jail just for fun.
It's just a new thing she likes to do.
She likes to just let the felons out.
She didn't want ICE to do their job in Virginia,
and we lost four Virginians to illegal alien crime.
Lost them, murder, death, murder.
Abigail's going, oh, that nasty old ICE,
at least we kept them out.
Now she got a new game, though, our new games,
let the felons out.
Let the felons out, let them vote, let them have guns, let them do whatever they want, man, you know.
And then when something happens, she'll just smile at the camera with her little witchy smile.
Oh, whoever's out there, like, where's the Abigail AI witch stuff?
Let's get on that.
I know I got Virginia listeners.
Like, where's the people using AI to train?
It's not a great leap.
You could put a green tone on her skin.
You're good.
A little hat done.
But yeah, the mother of mayhem.
I'm working on something right now.
Actually, it's called The Witches October.
Not the Witch is October.
Like the ownership side of it, but the witch is October.
And I think you're going to like it.
I think it's a little short just yet.
It's some pros, but I think you're going to dig it.
I'll let you know when it's ready.
Don't worry.
PBN family
The weather is cooling
It is a great time for Firecraft
Phenomenal time to really get into it
Phenomenal time to
Really sort of
Come your way through the things that work for you
And don't work for you
Right
The little exercise that the kids did
Here's a great one for everybody who's out there
Who's like I'm starting from scratch with fire
the little exercise I was very surprised by this but I did not plan this this was I had
had nothing to do with this this just really really surprised me and was really cool of the
school but a great exercise that they did and you could do is they had the pharaoh
magnesium block combo you've seen it and uh you know they didn't shave the magnesium I just
realized that I guess that might have been too much for the kids to
Anyhow, whatever. It worked so well.
The kids, so this is just a heads up for those of you out there.
Everything's wet.
So they took some leaves that they could find that were as dry as possible and some sticks.
And then they tore up cotton balls and put them on top of that and showed the kids how to strike the flint or the ferocerium rod, rather.
And, you know, I was busy with fishing, as you can imagine.
I was manning the fishing station of like 12 kids at a time casting.
some of them who never touched a fishing pole.
Right?
So you can imagine.
I was a little tied up.
But I did sneak over there when my son was there
because I wanted to see him in action.
And I, you know, saw when I look over people lighting fires.
You know, no lighters, nothing.
Just shower and sparks onto the cotton ball
and then the leaves catching fire.
And they did it in a pie tin, you know what I mean?
So it was like real safe and real easy to move around.
when Jacob my son was lighting his fire his buddy used another tin to put cover over it right because the rain had started coming hard and his buddy put a put a tin over top of it so that he had room to work but still could light get the fire lit and you know there was just lessons there you know there were there were lessons there and it was nice I enjoyed it it was uh it is that time of the year you know what I mean to figure out
if it's cotton balls to figure out if it's dry for me it's dryer lint and wax it served me my whole
existence if i don't have anything else it's feathered sticks right feathered sticks is if you've
never played a rat now you got to have knife skills to do a feathered stick so it's kind of a
dual skill thing right you got to be able to use a knife then start a fire but if i were in a
situation where i had you know a lot a lot of rain like i did to deal with
and no,
uh,
no big foot fur,
then that's what I would do.
I would have,
if,
if I were in that situation at camp,
you know,
the,
the teacher who put the whole thing on,
she was phenomenal.
I mean,
just an amazing effort.
She handed me a lighter.
And I went up to her and I said,
you want me to start this fire before,
uh,
because everybody was eating lunch.
So I figured I could get it started before the kids saw,
and,
you know,
wanted the swan dive into it.
As you know how kids are with fire.
Um,
So I got that going and I went over to get firewood to build to add to the fire and she handed me a bin with a lighter and some lighter fluid and she was like, this is if we have to rush it.
Which look, I get appreciated in the rain. Don't get me wrong.
But between just, you know, pooling some sticks out of the trees that were hung, finding some good pine for the resin and then, you know, having that big foot fur.
that drier lint and wax.
I mean, that stuff is, you start a fire in almost any condition with that stuff.
And it's great.
I mean, it's great.
But had I not had it and everything was wet,
then I would have found the driest ticks I could
and shaved all the bark off and feathered them out.
Feathered them out as many times as I could, as best as I could.
You know, maybe about, I'd probably try to do about 15 of them.
And, yeah, lighter.
matches, whatever.
Like I said, the cool thing about those feathered sticks is that they're,
they're tinder and kind of a combo.
And the way that I build a fire, I've told you some million times,
but the way that I build a fire is the way to build a fire.
It's the log cabin fire.
There's nothing better in my experience.
I mean, someone can show me a better way, but like I said,
If you've got all the time in the world to sit there and build a fire, then great.
Do it any way you want, you know.
You can do an upside down fire.
You can do a front side right back side fire.
You can star fire lay, whatever.
If I got wood that's cut like fuel and I need a fire and I don't want to be fire guy who's just going to sit here with the fire all night,
I just know, man.
I just know I can do two.
pieces of fuel, two more pieces at a 90 degree, two more on top of that, turn 90 again.
You know what I mean? And build that log cabin up three, four rows.
Start my fire in the middle with plenty of kindling. You know that you can lean the kindling all
inside that fire lay. You can lay it across the top of that fire lay. There's so much airflow
because you've got these big spaces on the sides of the fire. You know what I mean? It is the very best.
that's all
but now it's the time for you to figure out what works for you
might find out that like yeah that one's good but I like this one better
it's the cool evening season right get the fire pit
play around play around with fire starters play around with
the play around with the freaking ferro serum rod
see how effective that can be play around with your storm matches
play around with regular matches lighters butane lighters
You know, Zippo lighters, play around with, you can even get a flint and steel and play around with that thing if you want.
You know what I mean?
Play around with embers and Tinder bundles.
If you want to get some hardwood, some really dry hardwood, some really dry soft wood and try some friction fire.
You can do that.
You know what I mean?
I put no stock in friction fire whatsoever.
I just don't.
I just really have no, you know what I mean?
I don't know.
I probably should practice.
sit a little more, but it's just, I don't know. I've never been in a situation in all my years
where I've been like, I have no way to start fire. I better get wood and start rubbing it on a
plane of other wood. You know what I mean? And you can pretty easily set yourself up that way.
You know, years ago, years ago, a guy gave me a, just one of those little 3D printed lighter
holders that says, let's go Brandon on it.
He was a 3D printer guy I was working with when I was making fishing lores and stuff.
And I just put that thing on my keys and hold a lighter.
And people probably think I smoke cigarettes or smoke weed or something like that.
I don't know.
But I just always have a lighter, you know.
You always have a lighter.
I have bags in my car that have ferro rods and matches in them.
Obviously, the house has lighters and matches.
You know, it's one of those things where it's like,
what kind of situation do you find yourself in whether you can't find a layer, you can't find matches,
you can't find anything but two sticks to rub together to start a fire.
If my ancestors figured it out 500 years ago, you know, to use metal to make fire instead of sticks and rocks,
then I think probably we should, you know, we should stick with that.
That's good tradition.
Put ferro rods everywhere.
It's just a ferro rod.
It's just a rod.
You wipe it off.
It doesn't matter.
You can pull it out of the ground.
Wipe it off dry.
It'll spark.
As long as you have a striker.
You know, something.
You can strike it with the back of a knife.
So now's the time to play with all that.
Now's the time to do all that, learn all that.
You know, now's the time to smother fires to death is what it is.
That's what time it is.
It's the time to get in the fire pit and smother a fire to death when you want it to work and go,
ooh, I screwed up.
And here's why I screwed up.
Because most of the time, I'm telling you, most of the time, when you're failing at fire, it's just you're, something's too wet or you're going too fast and you're smothering it.
There, that's a free lesson on fire from the Intrepid Commander.
Trust me, I've been out of the long time.
Not as a survival of aficionado, but just as a kid who grew up outside of Philly and liked to burn stuff.
Which then lent itself to a career in cooking, which then lent itself to a career in prepping and survival.
Folks, 9 o'clock tonight, I'm going to get on and do our dirt cheap and free prep series.
I did miss two days over the weekend.
Just is what it is.
Again, nobody's perfect.
We're going to hit back hard tonight.
9 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.
Can't wait.
And then expect another show, you know, every day for the rest of the month.
All the way up into Halloween.
Talk to you soon, PBN family.
