Thank you. PBM Family, if you have anyone to draw in close to tonight,
you are in a tremendously privileged position in the hustle and the bustle of making what just happened, happened.
You know what I mean, right?
Making Christmas happen, the rigmarole of it all.
It's easy to lose sight of the fact that here in america we live better than
almost everyone on the planet we eat better we eat ourselves sick i've eaten myself sick today on
pork in varieties of forms and sweets and sugar and apples and cinnamons and bread and yeast. I made a freaking yeast, sweet yeast dough today.
It was probably the best one I ever made in my whole life.
I made cinnamon rolls with it.
You know what I did?
I had extra cinnamon rolls.
Check this out.
I made a big batch of dough.
I had extra cinnamon roll dough.
So what I did is I took a bread pan. And I stuffed the cinnamon rolls in the bread pan.
The extra ones.
You know, like a loaf pan.
And baked it, glazed it, gave it to my family.
My parents.
But don't forget that we're here in this position.
Which is a very privileged position.
As far as the world is concerned, right?
It's really easy to take it for granted.
It's really easy to fight on a day like today.
Maybe you spent a day fighting.
You know what I mean?
It's easy.
It's really easy to do.
Trees go up.
You got to build stuff.
Trees might come down.
You got to drive here and there to go see people.
It's real easy just to get fighting.
And if you have enough Christmas like that, before you know it, you're out of Christmases.
People are moving out, growing up, right?
Life is coming to an end.
It's not what it used to be.
Life is coming to an end It's not what it used to be
I always give you this piece of advice
But if you can
Probably the best thing to do right now
Given the time
And given the weather in most places
The best thing to do
Is to go out back
Go out front
Wherever you can get a bit of solitude
And look up
And remember that it's all happening
It's all happening right now
Doesn't matter what's supposed to happen
What should have happened
Who said what
Who didn't say what
Who forgot to bring this
Who forgot to make that
Who messed this up
Life is happening
And one day it won't be happening
Right?
Now, here's another thing I want to talk to you about
And this is
Through the lens of God
Okay?
We try to be nice
To people
If you're a Christian Or like me, you aspire to be one, maybe one day, right?
I never feel good about saying that I am because I never feel good.
I never feel good enough to wear that.
I like to swear way too much.
I don't know.
I just don't feel like i have it but i but it's good because it's something to strive for you know like jesus
is a really old picture of jesus on my wall right now staring at me he's like up high looking down
on me you know the old 70s jesus with the heart the burning heart in his chest and all that. But this occurred to me over this holiday season that it's really important to.
I, with little kids, with dogs, we had six dogs in the house right now, right?
With little things, little growing things.
And a wife and, you know, everyone i have to deal with in life i'm always
hyper focused on you know like be patient and don't be mean and be nice and teach and be good
to people it's important that you be good to people god wants you to be nice to people god
wants you to be good to people god wants you to bring the most out of people and in the midst of all that trying to you know make enough money to buy
the things that you need to buy for christmas and all that kind of stuff one of the things that
people do and this happens all the time this probably happens every year to the average american
is you start to destroy yourself right you start to really like really just get down on yourself how come i didn't do
this this year why didn't i buy that how come i don't have enough money to get this how do we not
have enough money for that i bought the wrong size i bought the wrong brand i bought the wrong this i
bought you know i pissed her off damn off I pissed him off I messed this up
I screwed this up
I suck
Some version of that
We all go through
And in my going through that
This holiday season
I found myself thinking about God
And I said, you know
He wants you to be nice to you too
He wants you to be nice to you
You
In other words, you value these other people
And you know that it's good to be nice to these other people
And you say to yourself I have to to be, these are God's creations.
I should treat them with respect.
Well, the same is true.
The same is true of yourself.
The same is completely true of yourself.
And you can't forget that.
You have to remember that you were created in the image of God too.
So if you're going to run around all day and night talking about how bad you are to yourself
in your head, what you've done wrong, what you've screwed up, what you should have done
better, you should have made more money, should have done this, should have got this, right?
Then what you're doing is also a disgrace.
You have to be kind to yourself too.
You have to cut yourself a little slack.
You have to remember.
That God's looking down.
And I don't think he'd be very happy.
Even if you were the nicest person in the world.
I don't think he'd be very happy.
If all you did was.
Tear yourself down.
In your quiet moments.
And I think that was about the biggest lesson I learned this year through the holiday.
Not that anything existential was happening, you know, to me.
But just the typical holiday preparations and, you know,
the whole holiday stresses and everything that goes along with it.
It's real easy to get down on yourself.
And it's real easy to find yourself in a situation where you're being completely brutal
in a way that you aren't to any other person in the world, to yourself.
And you know, this really is what a relationship with God is all about.
Because he's someone that you can be responsible to,
right? He's someone that can loom over you and you can look up to and say,
well, if I'm vicious and brutal to myself, who is going to care? There are people in your life
who will care, But it seemed to me
Like the one that stood out the most
In my mind was God
See now we're all
Fat and happy
Now we're all
Ready to tuck in
It's early
It's early yet
But we'll be tucked in
We'll be tucked in early and sleepy and
loving life and living it all and you know down to the bone
the dogs are all snoring laying in the living room six dogs four draped on the couch one on
a seat one on the floor And they'll move
Throughout the night as well
And Christmas will pass
And then tomorrow
Will be another day
A day to de-decorate
And de-this
And build this
And move
And shift
And shuffle
And everything that you do
With all the new stuff
Throw out the old stuff
And then the cycle
Just carries on
And just continues
But it's life man with all the new stuff, throw out the old stuff, and then the cycle just carries on, it just continues.
But it's life, man, and it's beautiful.
You know, tonight, I think what's important tonight is to take time to recognize what's happening, your life, your life is happening, you know, now's the time to consider the direction
it's going.
But it's also a time to sit down maybe before bed with your eyes closed and to thank God for everything.
And to think about Christianity and how the birth of a little baby changed the whole world.
And you could argue that the birth of that child just saved the nation.
You really could argue that what Christ has really built around truly, truly just saved our country.
Truth, right? Truth.
Truth and the ability for you to shoulder your cross, your burden, and carry it on in the face of the worst possible circumstances.
Right?
This is the prevailing doctrine of Christianity in my opinion, right?
This is what it is.
It's truth in the face of whatever flamethrower might be pointed at you.
of whatever flamethrower might be pointed at you,
and then to carry that cross despite the landscape,
despite the injuries, despite the carrier burden,
and maybe even the burdens of others.
And you could argue that that is what saved this country.
It's certainly what made this country.
You know, you can't understand people the way the founders understood people
unless you understand God and Christianity.
And unless you read the Bible.
Unless you can look all the way back
and see what the absolute toxicity
of absolute power does to men
and does to any man
I think it would do it to almost any man
I really do
I don't think that people who
have gained absolute power and did terrible
things are any different than anybody else
I just think they gained absolute power
they gained absolute
power and no man can handle it
It's the ring
It's the ring
It's Tolkien's ring
So thank God
Lay it all out
Lay it all out
From the constitution itself
To your favorite pet
To your spouse
To so on and so forth and just be clear
and thank god line by line for everything you can until you go into the unconscious
you guys give me the ability to do this you give me this life
you give me this microphone you give me this life. You give me this microphone, you give me this computer,
this light, this webcam to reach you. You're the only reason I do it. If not for you, the PBN
audience, there'd be no point for me to do this, you know? In many ways, you give me a serious purpose in this world.
And I want to thank you for that.
Okay?
Merry Christmas, BBN family.
I hope you had a great day.
I hope you had a great day, and I hope it carries on well into the new year.
Talk to you soon, folks.
