Crispy Jimbo reached out with his two hands and grabbed the spine of the third book down in his pile, which stood next to the Bible. In a manner as cartoonish as he could bust her, he began to pull the third book from in between the two in which it was nested. He did so in a way that made the pile threaten to topple.
Starting point is 00:02:03 The book was giant, and the pages all a mess. It seemed like there might be more edges of post-it notes coming out of the book than actual pages in the mighty volume itself. The pale face, receding hairline, slightly upturned mustache, pointed beard, and white collar of William Shakespeare in the popular Shandos portrait looked back at them. This portrait of the great writer was recognizable even to fourth graders despite the large letters that spelled out the title, the complete works and translations of William Shakespeare. The poor Duke senior who uttered the phrase was cast out by his own brother. Now that hurts. He was betrayed by his own brother, and in the story of As You Like It, he lives in a cave. His friends were exiled with him, and he built his own community. Had he allowed it, the disappointment of his life could have easily crushed him.

Starting point is 00:03:44 There's no doubt about that I do wish you a merry christmas and hope that two things about this holiday season in particular number one that you can find the inner child nestled within to enjoy it and also um that you know, take time to convene with the Creator. Take time to understand why this time exists. Maybe not even just for the Christian holiday, but for the many religious holidays that happen. Starting point is 00:04:36 The Christians, the Jews, the Muslims alike You know, here's a thought, okay Honor God, okay? Honor God, right? We do things to honor God. We do things for our God. We do things in the name of our God. For the Muslim God, the Jewish God, the Christian God, supposed to be honoring, what would be the thing?
Starting point is 00:05:18 If there were a thing, what would be the thing? The number one, what would be the gift to leave under the tree for God? Think about it. I mean, this is wild when you think about it. If you could wrap something up in a box, if these religions truly are monotheistic, meaning they worship one God, if there was one God up there, and he had a list of his own, what would he want under the tree? What would the monotheistic God want from the people of the planet? What could we give Father God for Christmas that would make him happy, the most happy?
Starting point is 00:06:07 It's actually very simple. When I tell you the answer, you'll say, no, duh, right? And the answer is for Jew and Muslim and Christian to hold hands in peace and to have that peace reign over the land. As far as I'm concerned, what I know of God, which is not much, but what I know of God in comparison to many others, what I know of God is that if I were to slip something under the big man's tree, then it would most certainly be to see the three major religions on the planet who are supposed to be praying
Starting point is 00:06:49 in their own way to the same God, holding hands of acceptance and peace. I don't know. I don't know. Call it fantasy. Probably is fantasy. Meanwhile, things are heating up there on Washington Hill, up there in Washington Heights, up there in Capitol Hill. Hunter announces he's defying subpoena, lashes out at Trump attack machine in stunning news conference. You know, House, this is a wild one, House approves Biden impeachment inquiry. I wasn't sure it'd get that far. Lawmakers voted 221 to 212 along party lines to approve the resolution authorizing the inquiry. Earlier in the day, Hunter Biden, the president's son, who is at the center of many of the lines of inquiry, defied a GOP subpoena to appear for a deposition on Wednesday morning. Republicans leading the probe said the refusal reinforces the need for a formal vote.
Starting point is 00:07:55 We're very pleased with the vote today. I think that's it a message. I think that's it a message. These writers always screw shit up. I think that's it, a message loud and clear to the White House. I think what they needed was a comma. I think that's it, comma, a message loud and clear to the White House. We expect you to comply.
Starting point is 00:08:20 Yeah, it's interesting. President Biden ripped House Republicans for what he called baseless political stunt. Look, I think I've narrowed down what I'm enjoying most about all this. You know, what I'm enjoying most about all this is that there are important things being addressed, important issues being addressed in Washington. That's it. I mean, you know what I mean? I don't want to see silence in D.C. I don't want to see people only gathering together
Starting point is 00:08:55 to question Trump on January 6th. You know what I mean? It's nice to see people pulled in front of Congress to answer for things that aren't right. And I don't care which side it's on. I don't have a dog in the fight per se. I just want to see good people get a chance and bad people taken to task. And they can be from any walk of life.
Starting point is 00:09:24 They can be from any political side. I don't care. But if we're going to have elected representatives, man, they need to pull some people in front of the gavel. Get them on a camera and let's see what they're really all about. I mean, can you imagine Hunter Biden in front of a camera? You could be the biggest Biden voting fan of all time. You can't sit here and say, you know, I think that Hunter's a good guy. About a year ago, I'd say, I started listening to Glenn Beck again a lot. I took a little break. Actually, I took a long break. I started listening to him a lot, you know?
Starting point is 00:11:06 And today, something kind of unnerving popped into my head. This is what it was. So, Steven Crowder, the Salty Cracker, and several other content creators who do youtube russell brand they set up rumble live uh streams because they know that they're going to get kicked off of youtube and it happens all the time, right? Their videos get taken down, so on and so forth. I never hear that happen to Glenn Beck.
Starting point is 00:11:51 A lot of days I watch his 9 o'clock show if I'm not doing something, if I'm not doing my own show. It never gets taken down. I don't know if they keep hour one a little vanilla, but I've heard some pretty serious topics being discussed. It never gets taken down. Starting point is 00:12:30 I find your lack of censorship extremely unnerving. Right? In all honesty, what's going on there? What's going on there? Have I been hoodwinked? Have I been hoodwinked? Should I listen to Michael Savage all along? Always told me.
Starting point is 00:12:54 He called Glenn Beck the hemorrhoid. Oh, PBN family, the holidays are here. What are you up to, huh? Are you enjoying yourself a little bit? I know the news is heavy. It's wild out there. Just is what it is, you know? It's heavy. Now's the time for traditions. You know, here we go again, a new tradition in our life. A new tradition in our life. We're headed up Saturday, up the mountain to the Jones homestead, and hogging. We're hogging once again.
Starting point is 00:13:28 Now, I'm going to wind up with a half of a hog, okay, like I got last year. Same thing. I got myself a half of a hog, and I broke it down in video, and I don't think I ever gave you guys the video. I don't think I ever showed you the video, because it takes a long time. It takes a lot of editing, and I never really got into it. So this is going to be year two of the whole hog. I'll break it down yet again. Ribs, pork belly, ham, picnic, shoulder, all the good stuff. Okay? We'll break it down, and this time I'll actually get it to you, okay?
Starting point is 00:14:15 You should know how to do these things, you know? You should know how to turn an animal into meat. You should know how to turn a living, breathing animal into steak, into chops, into loins, right? This is not a prepper skill, by the way. This is a human skill. This is a decidedly human skill. This is a skill that only humans possess, right? There's no other animal on the planet that'll trim the rack of ribs out, cook them on a grill, baste them, dry rub them, what have you, right? The butchering of meat is a human skill. And these skills that are necessarily
Starting point is 00:14:54 human, I think they deserve more of our focus, guys. Don't you think? Cooking. Nobody's cooking. There's no other animals on the planet cooking yet we forfeited cooking too so we could go out and eat at restaurants have other people cook for us like zoo animals like zoo animals you know what i mean have somebody else bring my food on the zookeeper bring the food we're trapped up in the we're trapped up in the at-home office getting uber eats delivered becoming just a i don't know it's more of a cyborg by the day i read a great dean coons book not long ago and i don't want to spoil too much of it but it was there was there was a section in the book about humans and computers intertwining.
Starting point is 00:15:47 And I mean in the physical world. I don't mean like metaphorically. I mean literally physically computers and human beings intertwining into this weird, disgusting amalgamation. And, you know, it's obviously an exaggeration of what it is, but who am I to talk? Who am I to talk? I've been in front of this computer for hours today, writing and reviewing and sending and emailing and talking and planning and so on and so forth, and here I am again, 8.17 p.m. in front of the screen, humming away the brain.

See, I'll tell you if, look look i've always made this promise to you guys and i i hope i never have to really keep it but if there comes a time where the wife and i decide that's about enough it's time to move far far away um i'm not gonna think about internet anymore and if i'm not thinking about internet anymore, then I'm probably not going to be on here anymore. Do you know what I mean? In other words, if you make a wholesale change,
Starting point is 00:17:13 something that significant, then everything changes. Everything changes, right? If it comes to that, I'm gone. And I'm not just gone from society in the physical. I'm gone from society altogether. Happy New Year. So what I thought we'd do today is... What I thought we'd do today is do a little Christmas,
Starting point is 00:17:47 do a little wish list, do a little Santa's list. I'm going to shop with you. Starting point is 00:21:19 Can we talk tonight? I mean, I don't know. I have an idea for a show tonight. I can't guarantee it's going to happen. Do you understand? For those of you who've listened to PBN for a long time, you do understand. For those of you who are new to the network and new to my show, about a year ago, I took a turn, maybe two years now, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:21:50 I took a turn away from the show that I typically did, which was kind of all over the place, to trying to focus more on prepping DIY or prepping, you know, guidance. Because I want to help people. You know what I mean? I want people to know what the hell they need to do. This is the prepper broadcasting network. You know what I'm saying?
Starting point is 00:22:18 I find myself in this situation where it's like there's still this part of me that wants to go off the rails and why is it's because you know when your soul is gripped you can't help it right bait your hook with your heart it's very important i'm always this time of year is one of those times where, I don't know, I'm susceptible to a lot. I'm susceptible to a lot. Family is crushingly beautiful this time of year to me. Children, crushingly beautiful. Love, crushingly beautiful. Romance, crushingly beautiful. Love, crushingly beautiful. Romance, crushingly beautiful.
Starting point is 00:23:10 And I was, you know, I'm planning and writing and starting a new book, and I was kind of feeling out ideas, you know. And I arrived at three things that I think are very important to the holiday season and three things that I particularly enjoy. Themes, you know what I mean? The reclamation of love for one, right? Reclaiming love following a big fight or a tough year or whatever it is, right? It's one of those themes that fits the bright lights and the glitter and the tinsel and the gifts and the fire burning and the meals and the family. in the meals, in the family.
Starting point is 00:24:07 I think it might be the striving. It all comes down to the striving, doesn't it? In all honesty, there are just moments. There are moments that happen in life when you hear a kid reading the Bible the way that that kid was reading the Bible. A little unsure, you know. but the transference, right? Transferring that great poetry from the Bible, transferring those great ideas that have molded society forever,
Starting point is 00:24:41 transferring that relationship with God from one generation to the next by having that generation read the pages, finger the pages one at a time and read aloud the story, right, of the holy night. Another theme I think that is really at the core of Christmas is returning home, right? Returning home. Returning home, and maybe not in the best of circumstances, but returning home anyway, right? In other words, people have these homes they return to,
Starting point is 00:25:24 these parents they return to, these parents they return to, these relationships they return to that maybe aren't the greatest. Maybe they aren't the best. Maybe things have been rough in the past. Or maybe it's been a decade since you've returned home, a decade since you've had a conversation
Starting point is 00:25:43 with the people who've made you. Or maybe the people that you've returned home, a decade since you've had a conversation with the people who've made you. Or maybe the people that you've made. The guy outside in the train that's going by right now, it's clear to me that he's never played with a horn before. He's just absolutely in love with this horn. He's been blowing this horn for three minutes on the way up here. Another core theme, I think, this time of year, and I'm not talking about in story, though it is in story as well, in good story about Christmas, is the introduction of tradition. You know, the building of tradition into this time of year. Like, what are the limits?
Starting point is 00:26:26 Like, what are the upper limits of tradition? I bought a board this year. It was a beautiful red board. And at first, you know, I looked at this board. We go to this place every
Starting point is 00:26:42 year. Can I tell stories? Can we do stories and stuff tonight? I don't know if we're going to do a Christmas list or not. We go to this place every year. I never imagined ever going to the Outer Banks. You know, like Virginia Beach is fine. Go to the beach, spend some days in the sand, play with the kids in the water. And we went to the Outer Banks one year and stayed in a house that was just absolutely outrageous.
Starting point is 00:27:15 You know, it was early in my writing career. I wasn't making good money, and it was just one of these situations where I found myself, you know, one of the things where I found myself, you know, one of the things that's really weird for a man is you grow up thinking, especially this day and age, you grow up thinking like the things that will happen in your life will happen because of you, because you are the man and you will make the money and do the things that a man does. man and you will make the money and and do the things that a man does um because you know whether you know it or not we don't men don't it's not that we don't depend on the money that our spouse
Starting point is 00:27:56 makes but we can't you can't plan it's it's virtually impossible for a man to plan his life out on another person's dime. It's damn near suicidal, right? But I was put in one such situation. I didn't know what we were getting into. My wife told me, we're going to do this trip. It's going to be a bunch of us. We're going down to the Outer Banks. We can bring the dogs.
Starting point is 00:28:30 My brother's going to be there. My dad's coming. You can see if your family wants it. You know, whatever. And we found ourselves in this house, this freaking insane house on the sound side. And I was just sitting up there like, like in this haze, like this weird poor kid,
Starting point is 00:28:51 poor kid haze. You know what I mean? Do you ever get, it's hard because there's only so many people out there probably who can understand what I'm talking about. But there's this haze that comes over you sometimes if you grew up poor with nothing and you start to achieve things
Starting point is 00:29:09 and you find yourself in these weird situations where everything is good. Or maybe even better than good. Maybe even like unbelievable. Oh, look, another train has come to ruin my show. Thank you, freighters. I hope you're taking coal or something useful up and down the tracks.
Starting point is 00:29:32 Orange juice. Something. I hope that the train cars aren't filled with illegal aliens. But I've had this haze several times in my life. I can remember back in 2020, actually, having this haze sitting at the Caribbean Beach Resort or something like that. Which one do we go to? I think it's Caribbean.
Starting point is 00:30:00 I don't know what it's called, actually. I think that's what it is, the Caribbean Beach Resort in Disney. And I remember sitting there, and I had my laptop in my lap because I work when I go on vacation because I have to. I have to. I can't go on vacation for longer than three days. I start to go crazy. All right, honey, let's go home.
Starting point is 00:30:22 We're here for three more days. Huh? I don't know how i can't but i remember sitting there my son he found this little water slide he was little was it 2020 so he was five you know he found this little water slide there that he did for probably a total of about five hours. All told for the vacation. You know, hours at a time he would do this thing at night. Be sitting there at night, right? And you got to remember, like, I didn't leave Pennsylvania until I was probably 16.
Starting point is 00:30:54 I mean, I didn't leave the tri-state area. Let's go with that. I think I went to Jersey and then I went to Delaware, you know, because they were right there. But I didn't leave the tri-state area until I was like 16. I went on a flight with my buddy Steve to Cancun. They took my girlfriend. It's crazy, right? Like his parents took me and my girlfriend to Cancun. They were such great people. What a crazy life that was. What the hell was going on? Imagine your 16-year-old coming to you and saying, hey, look, you know Steve. You know Steve's mom, right? Like you're talking to your parents. You
Starting point is 00:31:31 know Steve. You know Steve's mom. They're going to Cancun. They asked if I could come. It's not going to cost you anything. Oh, yeah, yeah, no problem. Go have fun. That's so cool. You're going to Mexico. What do you need? You need a passport? I didn't need a passport. Yeah, my girlfriend's going to come too. What? You're going to Cancun, Mexico, 16 years old with your girlfriend? I don't think so. I don't want no grandkids coming on the flight back.
Starting point is 00:32:12 Wild. Anyway, sitting there watching my son in Florida, you know, being in Florida in and of itself is a dizzying effect to me. I know to some people, it's like, well, whatever, it's Florida. Get over it. Being in Disney is always crazy. It's always insane. It always will be insane. You know, we've gone several times. It'll always be crazy to me. I never imagined being there. You know what I mean? It just, when you grow up like I grew up, those things, you put a lot of stuff out of your head, man. You put a lot of stuff way far out of reach. And I remember that same dizzying haze is sitting there in that resort and watching people run around and have a blast. Like I'm here, like this, I'm in this crazy ass place. I'm, you know, 30 whatever years old. My family is doing this thing, this crazy life. We
Starting point is 00:33:00 are, it's so insanely blessed. It doesn't even make any sense. Moments like that really were what drove me to God because I'd have to look up and be like, what have I done? Why? Why do you keep dripping these blessings on me like this? I did nothing but doubt you forever. You know, I did nothing but doubt you for so many years. Say, yeah, well, this, this, and this, this, and this, but that don't add up. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:33:30 Just explain heaven to me. It doesn't make any sense. Always been that way with God. You know, it's like a father-son in their teenage years. That's what most of my life with God has been, just arguments back and forth. teenage years. That's what most of my life with God has been, just arguments back and forth. Shut up, Dad. I don't want to do it that way. Yeah, he just constantly, right, constantly with the blessings. I mean, here I am, like, do you have any idea? I don't understand. I have this understand. I have this vision of just a terrible, terrifying, absolutely painful,
Starting point is 00:34:14 torturous death that's awaiting me. Because there has to be a universal balance, right? Everything is balanced. So I wake up day after day. I come talk to you guys. The greatest audience there ever could be. All these people say, oh, I got the best audience. Oh, I got the smartest audience. No, you guys are the best. You know what I mean? There's no better people.
Starting point is 00:34:37 I meet you. I mean, even the ones that I don't meet, the ones that I talk to, I mean, you know how many, I can count on one hand the amount of people that I've ever run into, that I've ever talked to, that I've ever chatted with, that were horrendous to deal with from this audience. And remember, I snuck in here. I snuck into this prepper world. I didn't know anything. I snuck in here. Everybody was so nice, so great. So I find myself sometimes in these hazes, you know what I mean? And
Starting point is 00:35:18 I was looking at this board, right? We were talking about this plank with this sort of frayed, braided rope on it. We go to the Christmas Mouse every year in June-ish, July-ish, whatever. Down there in the Outer Banks. It's a date. It's the Lady Liberty and I's, one of our dates when we're in the Outer Banks. We go out and we walk around the Christmas, because we're both insane over Christmas. Both of us, insane. The dedication in my book, The Christmas Hook, to my wife is,
Starting point is 00:35:53 it's as good as the book itself. It really is. The dedication is, it explains all of that. And I'm looking at this thing, and I'm having one of those haze moments, right, you know, it's like the kids are growing up, and here we are, and I'm still married, and I still love her, and it's still great, and I'm looking at this thing, and this thing has 25 dots on it, 25 things to do, 25 objectives, right? So it's like a three-foot-high red-painted plank with white objectives for each day up until the 25th. And so many times in my life, guys, I don't know if you do this.
Starting point is 00:36:42 You might. I don't know. So many times in my life I see things't know if you do this you might i don't know so many times in my life i see things that are like that and i say to myself man i don't know should i get this should i really buy it wasn't that expensive like 35 bucks i think should i really buy this thing am i really gonna hang this thing up are we really gonna do the things on this and And like nine times out of 10, I leave something like that. I leave it there. And 10 times out of 10, when I leave something like that, I regret it. Right. I say to myself, I'll say this to myself. Oh, I could make something like that. You do that kind of stuff. I'll figure out, I'll do make something like that.
Starting point is 00:37:24 You never wind up doing it right so we bought it we hung it up and uh you know what really what's most interesting about it you know it's silly stuff make gingerbread cookies make a handmade gift go ice skating go look at christmas, right? Decorate the house, whatever. What's most interesting about it is it confirmed sort of all of the things that we already do. You know what I mean? And it was like, wow, we do a lot. We fit a lot into the Christmas season, don't we? The Rabelais are doing a great show called um keeping up with the joneses at christmas time and it's a good lesson in that man they're really it's a good show i it's gonna be on monday but i or sunday but i watched it already because they put their show up earlier on their
