Starting point is 00:00:00 I keep on moving forward. Always getting closer. Marching till it's over. And just like a soldier. I keep on moving forward. Always getting closer. I'm marching till it's over. And just like a soldier.
Starting point is 00:00:26 I keep on moving forward. Always getting closer. Marching to the top, girl. I'm dressed like a soldier. I keep on moving forward. Always getting closer. Marching to the top, girl. It's ridiculous. Always getting closer Watching TV turn over It's ridiculous
Starting point is 00:00:47 You're listening to The P.B.N. Your path back to stability Good morning, PBNers. This is Jayford here, reaching out on another morning of Phoenix survival. That is right. I am back this Saturday morning, maybe a little less rants at the moment, but I did want to reach out. So if you saw the title, right? Advancements, repairs. I mean, it's the whole works. So what are we doing to advance our independence and our stability, right? So here at our little homestead at Phoenix survival, we have already continued to grow our
Starting point is 00:01:56 garden. We have started it. I've got more heirloom seeds coming in and we now officially have the eight baby chicks that were in the bathroom out in the yard. Now, where does that mean for repairs and advancement? We did buy a coop off of Amazon and I can tell you this, it was less than what we expected. Not only was it smaller than the measurements, it didn't have a lot of things that I believe that it should have had. We are having to alter. I need to check the group. Hold on. Uh, we, everything is set and completely sealed. There's little to no accessibility outside of two doors on there. accessibility outside of two doors on there. So the big issue now is adjusting it, getting hinges, getting everything else. Let's see who is here. Good morning, my listeners. It is good to see you in the chat. All right. Let me do a quick shout out. I am trying something new. I am actually streaming live on TikTok while I am
Starting point is 00:03:06 podcasting. I do plan on getting my StreamYard set up so we can stream it all the way across each of the platforms, Rumble. That's right, James. I am working on being as efficient as Toolman, Tilm, and everyone else in this group. We're seeing how it goes, though. So far, I don't think, especially with not being able to hear more than just this on my end. As you can hear, Fussy Baby in the back. He is definitely fighting nap time and teething. All right, so my morning individuals, when y'all pop in, definitely say hi, because I do have the chat in the background, so I can't see it right on my screen at the moment.
Starting point is 00:03:52 So there has been a lot going on in the world lately, as we know, chaos, different articles coming out, different things that are... different articles coming out, different things that are... We do honestly live in a world of instant gratification. So being able to go to the store, buy what you want, immediately be able to pick up anything is our biggest downfall. We... I can't stand that. I'm going gonna end this,
Starting point is 00:04:26 and poor little man, you can hear him fussing, he is so tired, two teeth, y'all, two teeth, so you know what, let me just, let me just recap, so we have the garden, right? My cucumber I bought in plant. I have seed coming in because lo and behold, all the seeds I had are past, well past date. We are going to try a mass sprout project in our house. We are going to take all of the old seeds and old, you know, just a kindergarten method of a Ziploc bag and paper towels. We are going to spritz those paper towels, get them damp, put the seeds in there, put them in the light and see where they go. If they sprout, we'll plant them.
Starting point is 00:05:14 If they don't, okay. You know, it's checking viability. Yes, some of these seeds are quite old, but we still want to, we don't want to give up on anything because I planted some seeds from 2019. I can't, I think it was the lettuce or the purslane. I'm not a hundred percent certain, but one of the sets has started to grow. Good morning, garden girl. So great to have you. you. So we are looking forward to that. Um, and in the sense of we get excited about childish projects only because I do have a ton of seeds and some of them, like I said, life kind of threw me a hell of a curve ball. So some of the seeds just, just got left where they were. And now it's just checking to see what is viable, what isn't. If it is viable, we're going to, sorry, grab something
Starting point is 00:06:14 off the desk. We're going to see how well those items sprout and if we can do anything with it. So it's, we're actually enjoying this little adventure that we have going on. Now, after I get off live today with y'all, I am going to be running to the hardware store and picking up some things to adjust the coop that we received. Like I mentioned, it was smaller than we expected, and we read the measurements, so we knew it wasn't going to be large. But at the same time, we just didn't expect it to be smaller. Yes, I could have sent it back, but a week with a bunch of chickens in our bathroom, well, know what, will make it work. There are some modifications that I can do.
Starting point is 00:07:09 There are some things I really just don't like about the coop. And you know what, that's to be expected. There are some parts of it that I do really like. I mean, it's cute, but there is no door on the main hutch. I don't like that. I do like being able to shut the birds in and be able to, you know, let them enclose it at night because it is not the most sturdiest thing, which we will have to figure out ways to reinforce it to keep, you know, neighborhood critters out. So, I mean, this is a new, new experience of having a more urban or urban setup than what I am accustomed to. Um, it is definitely going to be something, I tell you what.
Starting point is 00:08:06 definitely going to be something. I tell you what. So I built the coop, put the coop together and it was, it was super windy. I did pop on for a life for a very brief second, but like I said, it was super windy. A little man was starting to get fussy. It's just the wind was intense all day. So I am going to go today. I plan on, so the roof does not lift. That's fine. There's not a hutch in there. What the issue is, is trying to be able to reach in through two tiny doors to be able to access anything is what makes it difficult. So I am going to build a very small nest in box to be able to access anything is what makes it difficult. So I am going to build a very small nest in box to be able to have outside at the bottom. Yeah, that is our big one is, we've got raccoons. Well, the roof, I didn't mean to hit that. The roof is actually pretty secure. It's the fact that without the weight of the roof, the whole coop would move easily.
Starting point is 00:09:03 Without the weight of the roof, the whole coop would move easily. So for us, I am getting hinges to be able to lift the wire cover from one spot up. But I'm also getting additional locks. And I'm replacing the locks that are on them so that I can actually lock them. We do have neighbors with children who find it curious and they do not understand not going into someone else's yard. I am now at a point in my urban lifestyle here, going on three years, of having neighbors whose children are now ending up in our yard. So not only do I have to make some sort of fortification against critters, I also have to make fortification against children.
Starting point is 00:09:55 Yeah, I usually didn't have that problem, but now that we have even more kids in the neighborhood, we have the refugees, which nothing against them. Our other neighbor's kids play with them. That's great. The only problem is, is it takes up our yard. They are always in our yard at times. And so So I have to pull up something on my end because I, here we go. My goal is I have been looking at some items here on Amazon. Not only do we need to get a sensor light, I have to add an extra security camera on the side just because of, yeah, just because. That's what I was thinking. This coop is missing a side door. Sorry. I went back to go online to see. This one does
Starting point is 00:10:58 not have the nest in box. And it also does not have the bottom door open open in that it is supposed to have what oh i do not want to have to try to send this back i'm not going to i'm just going to modify it i'll do it myself there's there's no point in killing yourself over this i mean i get a coupe for 130 which is cheap even for a tiny coop, because the tiny coops at Tractor Supply are $364. I kid you not. Oh, well, you live, you learn. It works, gets the chicks out of our bathroom, and you know what?
Starting point is 00:11:40 It's a start. They are just chicks. We can expand it and add on to it not a problem garden girl how's it going over at your neck of the woods let's see i'm just trying to find i'm trying to find my saved list this is the one one I wanted. I wanted a, this one actually kind of reminds me of a tractor one that we did receive. There was one I was looking at and it was $130. Not bad at all. Has the next nest in boxes, but, uh, I think it was like $90 in shipping. And it just wasn't feasible.
Starting point is 00:12:28 Let's see, what is the shipping on this? Yeah, $90 delivery. And what they have on there, I think I could just do myself. I can make this attachment. See? This is what's going on. In our little neck of the woods. We are, we are overcoming, adapting. I tell you what though, I didn't realize like when they're in the bathroom, you kind of drown
Starting point is 00:13:03 out the noise. But when I finally got them in the coop, I'm like, wow, they're in the bathroom, you kind of drown out the noise. But when I finally got them in the coop, I'm like, wow, they're so loud. And, uh, Chris even said, yeah, they're there. They were that loud in the house. And I guess I just had gotten accustomed to tuning it out. All right. Let me see where, where's my saved items. wish list or is it safe for later how does this work y'all i know how to navigate it on my phone truth be told computer's a whole different story uh pretty good getting ready to head to soccer I started selling some of my extra plant starch. No, that is great. I mean, that's where we're at. A lot of us seem to be able to make a little extra means by, you know, selling a few things on the side, whether it be crochet, plants, crafts, there's nothing wrong with that. have you done the have you gotten to a point
Starting point is 00:14:07 where it's a barter system ever garden girl and soccer i love soccer oh oh is that comfrey now what is that so for those who are listening yep oh thank you she's sending me a comfrey baby i love comfrey uh melinda lee if you are listening big shout out to melinda lee she has been the biggest supporter over the years who has sent me in the past dried comfrey and um kombucha starters and even my how to make my own little sun oven. Like y'all are amazing. I had, Oh, it's like that picture of if you send this much a day, you adopt this child. This is my child. Yes. Here at Phoenix survival, we get excited about plants, and I don't know too many people in PBN who don't. So I am excited about that. Oh, I can't wait. You know what? I'm going to be honest with you.
Starting point is 00:15:15 I've looked into comfrey. I've studied it. I have never actually bought comfrey. actually bought comfrey um here we go this is what i want um here we go so i was looking at some things online there was actually this pretty decent it looks very cheaply made, solar outdoor light, motion censored, and it's $30, right? Well, recently I was on a new friend of mine, new acquaintance, who has horses and the nice little country feel, which I respect that family so much. This woman is amazing, who had the same solar light on the side of her barn. And I was asking her about it. She said it was the best $30 investment she made, and it is actually quite bright. So I am looking into investing in one of these.
Starting point is 00:16:21 And then also looking at a security camera. I do like this. This is awesome. But no, so we are running into, well, the other day, we've got quite a bit of torrential rain. I know a lot of other places did. Louisiana got a few tornadoes. James has some work on water procurement. You'll need to be paying attention. If you are,
Starting point is 00:16:51 you know, you get on Instagram periodically, keep an eye out. That man does a daily live on Instagram. I'm getting where I'm starting to do daily lives on, not daily, but, um, do daily lives on, not daily, but periodic lives on Instagram. I am looking at slowly shifting my, I do have a TikTok, looking at shifting it to the prepper and, oh, they have, oh, I don't want to pay that much. Sorry, I was looking. They have an automatic chicken coop door opener with heating and anti-pinch function, solar powered. Looks great. Unfortunately, I don't have $130 that I can just spend on one of these. Anyone want to volunteer, let me know. I mean, it looks fantastic.
Starting point is 00:17:49 It looks awesome. But realistically, that is out of my pocketbook. That is way too beyond what I need. And what is that I mean I still like it though okay yeah so I didn't mean to fall down a rabbit hole looking at Amazon but I think that's what where we're at as in people and preppers, not looking at Amazon, but trying to see how we can expand, how we can utilize. I have been here going on three years. We were hoping to have moved out of the area this year, but some unforeseeable circumstances have occurred. have occurred and now we are trying to go ourselves at a year.
Starting point is 00:18:50 One of the members got one of those. Any word on who or so I can ask them about that because it looks interesting. I'm seeing a slightly cheaper one says farm light solar automatic chicken door with energy efficient solar timer light sensor and remote. I do like the heater one, considering they're still quite small chicks. It's kind of a gamble to put them out. But in years past when I had 25 chickens, it wasn't anything for me to, um, leave the chicks out with the chickens. I mean, oh, let's see. Hmm. And homesteading. Okay. Let me hop over over so listeners who are not on the group chat
Starting point is 00:19:49 jump over to pb and family take a look at everything on here we do have a group chat in element we sign up let us know we'll get you added in and we have groups uh not groups but um pages specifically titled for certain certain certain topics i don't know i came back across your hot pockets there were pizza rolls what what were those that you made? Hmm. Just the amount of information that is in here that we all share with each other. We, we enjoy to any of the listeners who's listening to this on the record or the download,
Starting point is 00:20:48 hit me up. If you're the one who got that automated heated solar chicken door. I would love to hear how that worked for you. It may be something for me to save up to. It might be too big for what I have, but I do like the idea of being able to at least give them a little more security. Even if the coop itself isn't as sturdy as I'd like, at least that main hutch part is. I can hear him kicking in the other room. The kid is mobile, folks. He is mobile. He has two bottom teeth. He is trying
Starting point is 00:21:28 to stand. He is pulling up and standing on everything. He acts like he's going to start taking a few steps and he's crawling like crazy. Oh, what time is it? Let's see. Oh, what time is it? Let's see. You know what? I am going to throw us to a quick commercial because I left my water across the room. So give me one second and I will be right back. On the brink of blackouts again, as power demand reached an all-time record high overnight, slivers of the Golden State plunged into darkness. ...expects to continue with stage six... He scheduled outage on Thursday, but the one that happened Sunday, it wasn't scheduled, it was unexpected, and it lasted longer than a day.

Starting point is 00:23:04 Hello. Welcome to the podcast. Present your vaccine passport. Enter your social credit score. And be sure you have enough remaining carbon credits to enjoy today's show. BBN family, your garden is the resistance i love those bumpers they're great oh so garden girl asked how old little man is he is now eight months old eight months he's been crawling since six months um Been cutting a tooth for quite a while. It finally, finally, both of them cut through at the same time. Let's see.
Starting point is 00:23:52 So, you know, it's funny. I was thinking about that bumper right there, and I saved something I saw on Instagram. And I'll post it. But it says, the goal isn't Gucci bags and mansions. It's a basement full of canned foods and a piece of land with a running stream. says, the goal isn't Gucci bags and mansions. It's a basement full of canned foods and a piece of land with a running stream. That's the goal. But it also says something where it was talking about the percentage of during wartime that individuals farmed the amount of their food. And now in today's time, Americans only farm 0.0 or 0.1%. They're 0.1% garden or something like that.
Starting point is 00:24:33 And it was really interesting concept because of the fact that we as a nation no longer are self-sustainable or self-reliant. Where is your stability? Yes, we are having a lot of first world problems because, well, for one, McDonald's ice cream machine is always down. But two, Joanne didn't get her caramel iced latte frappuccino twice whipped with soy la- Cares.
Starting point is 00:25:07 Come on. You know, it- What gets me is we meet people who have been on hard times and we meet people who haven't. The number of people I've met on both ends of the spectrum, some are always for independence and they don't, you know, they don't give any grief. But what I run into is the people who, why would I do that? I can just do this. Who act like they are entitled with a silver spoon, which I mean, if that's how your lifestyle has been and that's what you're comfortable with, great, great.
Starting point is 00:25:50 But do not knock people for trying to better themselves in a way that is suitable for themselves. As preppers, as parents, as individuals, as whatever title you want to give yourself, the best thing we can do is keep trying. I'm on year three out here in Myrtle Beach, okay? I've put off certain things. I always kept a tiny little garden, even if it wasn't very, um, very high in production to the point that after, after the last turn of events that we had just in the last few weeks alone, really solidified that, pardon my language, y'all, but fuck this. I thought I was trying to hold out so I could wait till things were a little more feasible. Nope. Waiting is not going to do you any good. We all know that. Life doesn't give two shits where you're at. It really does not.
Starting point is 00:26:54 And I apologize for the harsh language, but that's what it's going to be. Life does not care if you are on two feet standing proud with your head up high and a good cushion amount in your pocketbook or if you ain't got a pot to piss in. It just doesn't. So sitting and waiting until you're in a better spot or a better position to do things to make things better for yourself is ignorant. Ignorant, okay? Not calling you stupid. Ignorant means not to know, right? And feigning ignorance is stupid. So here is your piece of knowledge. Life did not stop kicking when I was down. Life definitely did not take a break when things
Starting point is 00:27:48 were starting to turn around. It just doesn't. I'm okay with that. That is a part of living. We are going to experience some of the biggest challenges and biggest things in our life. We all have, as James would put it, our own personal apocalypses. We do. God knows I've had too many for one person and it's kind of scary. But at the same time, it reminds me that every time I make it through one of these events,
Starting point is 00:28:23 I am that much stronger. I am that much well planted towards what I want. And if anything, thinking back on the last couple years, on all of the events that have occurred, and the most recent event that has occurred, I'm not going to let it get me down. I'm going to stop holding back from something that could just be a difference between one or two things. We live in a neighborhood. My landlord doesn't care if we have chickens. He doesn't care. As long as we don't destroy the place, he doesn't care. Very laid
Starting point is 00:29:06 back. We've got neighbors down the road who have chickens. We live at the end of a cul-de-sac. Or, well, basically. Exactly. God bless, garden girl. I completely understand that. God bless, garden girl. I completely understand that. You know, that's similar. Yeah. God bless. Well, you know what?
Starting point is 00:29:31 I know y'all are still hanging in and y'all are tough as nails. And you know what? That's, I know that's not going to stop him. And I know that's not going to stop you. So see, that's just it. We all are going through things. We all are experiencing things that we just want to sit down and cry and cuss and spit and drown our sorrows or however you find your outlet. I'm going to pick myself up. My family, we are going to pick ourselves up together.
Starting point is 00:29:59 We are working on this together because that's what we are. We are working on this together because that's what we are. And I am, you know, being supported in every way possible. So if I need to sit down and drown myself in sewing for the next six hours, guess what? That's what I'll do because what I'm sewing is something that could benefit. Not sitting around, sitting on my butt, scrolling on hours on end, just watching TV, which sometimes you need a moment just to scroll and just to disconnect. I get it.
Starting point is 00:30:38 But set a time limit for how long you're going to do that. I have my garden going. I make sure I go out there every day, even if it's just for a few minutes. I sit on the porch, even if it's for a few minutes. Say the garden doesn't need to do. All right, I go sit on the porch. Sit outside for a few minutes. Take yourself out of that headspace. Take yourself out of that spot for just a moment. It's what we do as a family. You know, yes, we have things that have to get done here or there are chores that need to be done. But sometimes as a family, we're just like, you know what? We need to step away for a second. And that's what we do. But we work on things
Starting point is 00:31:17 together. The gardening, I'm being supported 120%. No questions asked if I come home with a few extra containers, because guess what? I'm growing extra plants of something else. No questions asked. Because he understands that what I'm doing is I'm growing, one, for my peace of mind, for my security blanket. Two, it is something that we as a family can benefit from. And three, any excess will be put up. We are planning a trip to go up to my storage unit to get the rest of my cannon supplies. We have my pressure canner and my water bather here and my dehydrator. So we are looking at growing and expanding on that. My chickens. So we don't have to buy eggs and there's meat. I think having something that gives you that sense of comfort
Starting point is 00:32:22 and you've got that protein there. For me, they're security blankets. Why wouldn't you? Even if you have a tiny space, like we do have a tiny space. Eight chicks is probably a little much. We've got a neighborhood with quite a few, but I really don't expect all eight to survive. I don't. One of them is showing signs of poopy butt. one of them is showing signs of poopy butt. So I'm going to go through. I've had them all. They all were together anyways. I'm going to go through, clean them all up, check them, treat them the way they need to be treated, get them some grit, and watch. Not all chickens ever make it now if all eight make it fantastic will i be surprised absolutely and impressed and then a little gray-haired but that that's a part of it it's it's and what if we lose all eight if we lose all eight okay we assess what we did to lose all
Starting point is 00:33:22 eight or what may have occurred to lose those eight. And as Chris would say, we'll replace them. Because what we are doing is not for nothing. They're not little pets to hold and play with and treat like they're the family dog. No. Chickens have an important use. They can eat the insects, they provide meat, and they provide protein with their eggs. There are uses for them. Everything I'm growing in my garden is things that we can eat or use. My chamomile is to the point I can start harvesting and drying out the flowers and put those up for some of my own tea.
Starting point is 00:34:06 My eucalyptus is looking amazing. Lavender's growing. My mint is, well, mint is prolific. It's always doing great. I'm now growing lettuces and purslane in the other towered parts of those other plant parts of the tower um this week my beans should be in my seeds i'm going to plant all of those and i'm actually going to change some things around how i did my garden i put certain plants a little closer together than i would like so i am going to incorporate, I don't know if y'all can hear him in the background, but I am going to put a bean or two in between each of the pepper and tomato plants only because those are plants that take the nitrogen out of the soil and beans put them back. So we are also getting a bag of black cow.
Starting point is 00:35:07 So it's just planning what we're going to do here. We have looked into some sort of water collection system. Not 100% sure on how we're going to proceed with that. We're still working on covering the porch because of the neighborhood cats. Because our neighbor does have several cats they left outside. And one of their cats loves to get on the roof and tries to get in our windows. So I can no longer open our second story windows. So it's just, you know, it's challenges. Life is going to be full of challenges. How you handle those challenges, what you do makes the difference. All right, so I got a crappy chicken coop.
Starting point is 00:35:54 It's not crappy. It's just not ideal. So what am I going to do? I'm going to make some changes. When I get off here, I'm going to pick up hinges, locks, a makeshift door for the hutch itself, some extra short screws so I can be able to lift and lock the top. You know, I've already got my list right here before shows started. I started making that list. So I knew exactly what it is that I'm getting. I know what it is I'm trying to achieve for my family. Oh, thank you, Garden Girl. Yeah, I tried to post on Instagram. I need to be a little more involved on my page and I'm trying to be with everything else that is going on. I think what I'm going to do, I am going to post the
Starting point is 00:36:42 catalogs that I get and from where so people can actually see where I order from. Speaking of which, I don't see anything wrong with stuff that anything that I buy as far as seed wise is stuff that we eat and we use. So it's not like these seeds go to waste. The only time my seeds have gone to waste were from several years back when that life event, life changing event occurred and I had to move. I picked up and I started over and I didn't know if I'd have a garden again. I didn't know if I would be where I would be. So this, this does it. And for those of you who have gone through those events, who are starting over, who live, that startled the stink out of me, who, who live in small spaces, you can do it. Actually,
Starting point is 00:37:42 Garden Girl is the one who really pushed me into looking into a grow tower. Now, mine is not super big. I got it very cheap off Amazon. Actually, I think I bought it with birthday gift cards, so I didn't have to pay for it. Speaking of which, y'all, gift cards in general, just, I don't makes, it seems less stressful for me, but we, um, you know, thinking about it now, it's like, if I had still been in that condo, I think I would have put a grow tower on the balcony. Now I would have had to find a way to have weighed it down, maybe put rocks in the bottom one, just because the winds at that level. I've also taken a stick and ran it down completely the center of that grow tower. So none of the levels come apart. So I can actually pick up
Starting point is 00:38:32 the entire tower and move it, whether it's too much in the sun or too much in the rain. Dollar Tree has them. Are they any good from Dollar Tree? You know, I'm going to write that down. I'm going to write down Dollar Tree grow Tower. You know what? For the listeners, I may pick one up. Sorry, I've got a list right here. So when I go tower, ha ha ha. All right. So I am going to stop by there. I will, you know what? Why not? I'll, I'll pick one up. I'll throw a few things in it and see how it does. And yeah, it's not a big deal. Not bad. Okay.
Starting point is 00:39:14 I'll take a look. I mean, it can't hurt. I mean, it's what? Five, five dollars? Ten dollars? I don't know. Dollar Tree now anymore is $15. I don't, I think they just announced they were now going to charge upwards of $15. Who knows? You've got to love mass corporations.
Starting point is 00:39:34 Can y'all hear him? Where is Pappy? Is Pappy in here? Pappy, there you are, boo-boo. Hi, Pappy. Okay. Sorry. You two are my Saturday morning individuals. And then Jay Bondi and Mad Dog is usually in here. I see where Mad Dog read a few and then disappeared. And then, but yeah, it's, it's interesting to see how this year is going to turn out, um, how the summer is going to go. Can't control the weather, but it is definitely interesting. We are, I am looking forward to growing a bunch of pepper plants. And when I mean pepper, I mean jalapeno. I've got some seed coming in for Caroline Reaper.
Starting point is 00:40:31 And another one. Hold on, let me double check. I have it on my screen. Oh, I think the baby gave in and fell asleep he's been fighting that now uh Carolina Reapers and an Apocalypse Scorpion only because with the jalapenos um and I've got cowpeas coming only because I do like to make my own dried peppers. I like to have that seasoned for when I want to add just a little heat to something. And I have in the past tried making my own hot sauce and I want to do it again.
Starting point is 00:41:22 I mean, who doesn't like homemade hot sauce? I enjoy it. Yeah, I, yeah, Carolina Reaper, Apocalypse, Scorpion. Normally I like Habaneros, um, but I didn't, I don't know. I didn't want to overdo it. I just wanted like one or two plants with the super hot, save those seeds, and then I'll mass grow them and collect the seeds from that plant. And then, hold on, where's my order? I've got cow, cow, they call it cow peas? Purple-holed peas, black-eyed peas. Black-eyed peas is what I know them as. Let's see.
Starting point is 00:42:17 Yeah, it's cow peas or purple-holed pink-eyed, which they're black-eyed peas. And then on the other one that I had ordered. On my big order, I do have more squash coming in. Pickling cucumber, which like I said, I bought some plants, but I do prefer growing the heirloom seeds. It's usually a gamble because the plants I bought were much bigger plants, but they weren't hardened. So I actually have all my pepper plants and my tomatoes right now tied up on bamboo. We got some bamboo and I cut them into the shoots like I used to do. And I have them now taped or taped, tied to that. I do have Cherokee purple is what I'm growing out of the plants.
Starting point is 00:43:11 I've got Arkansas traveler, Cherokee purple. I've got some more rice because I do want to try my hand at upland rice here. I love the Amish snap, tall snap piece. Let's see. of the Amish snap tall snap piece. Let's see. Uh, pole snap green beans, American black eye pole llama beans, winter squash, extra garden mix. Yeah. I mean, it's what it's about. Uh, oh, I would like to try my hands at some winter crop. I, it's usually a gamble when I do this, try my hands at some winter crop. I, it's usually a gamble when I do this, but I did take just a bag of potatoes. I prefer getting my hands on some organic ones and then plant from there. Sweet potatoes are super easy to grow. I had a bag of just plain potatoes that were starting to turn.
Starting point is 00:43:59 So I threw them in a potato bag, covered them with dirt, going to see if they sprout. If they don't, no biggie. I'll just pull them out, throw them in the, going to see if they sprout. If they don't, no biggie. I'll just pull them out, throw them in the burn pile, and then go from there. So at least in our house, we are actively, actively doing things. We are growing things. We are building things. We are putting things away and organizing our preps and making sure that if there's an emergency, we know what the plan is. Communication is the biggest thing in our household. We are communicative about everything that we're doing, what we're planning. We sit down and we talk as a team. And if I get a wild hair up my butt, I have the freedom and liberty, you know,
Starting point is 00:44:51 to be able to do, if I want to change things up in the house, okay. If you break something, call me. All right, so Lord have mercy. Okay. Sorry. Just checking everything here. Oh, I can't read. okay but yeah so i mean you see i live in myrtle beach i went from big acreage to almost nothing i'm still gonna make it work our house is not the biggest it's not the smallest either it's twice the treat oh three times the size of the condo i was in but you make it work so listeners if you are out there and you're in a small space and you don't know where to start, all right, I got to make that. Then feel free to
Starting point is 00:45:52 reach out to me or feel free to reach out to PBN. Join the podcast, join our group chat on Element. element. Ask questions. Get, you know, become engaged. Get involved. There's so much you can learn from each other. There's a lot of things that I don't know that I learned from the rest of the group. I mean, and then these are people I would consider friends, people I consider family. Then we have events like Prepper Camp. Yep. Prepper Camp. Check it out. Preppercamp.com. Best camp ever. Three days, 64 classes, not enough time to see all of them. Some of the best people in the world. Oh, I saw James chopping. James. There we go. You know, this is what it's about. So that's kind of like for me, uh, last night, as I've told y'all, I am starting to jump across the platforms
Starting point is 00:46:53 a little bit more, getting out of my comfort range, range doing lives. Yes. Amen to that. Uh, James has actually been my inspiration and probably motivator to really push myself a little bit more to be seen. I know I'm heard. God knows. I am one of the loudest women at Prepper Camp and probably one of the loudest women in general. Not taking anything away from Sarah Hathaway. We were introduced as the two loudest women. Hey, man. So I am reaching out. I am, uh, last night I, there was this one lady I have followed for several years now who dyes and does the acid dyes on, on yarn. And I had an opportunity. They asked what I did. I told them I travel and I teach fiber. I've taught at old school survival. travel and I teach fiber. I've taught at Old School Survival. There is another event that's going to be coming up up in Ohio that in 2025 that the Everyday Prepper has been putting together.
Starting point is 00:47:54 Keep an eye out. I'm excited. I will be there. Hell or high water, I'll be there, teaching or not. I have already told them I'll be there. There are some other great events that happen all across the states. Look into them. I, you know, I got people who are interested because we were in the same fiber group and I teach fiber, but you know, there are other things you can learn. At Prepper Camp, at these other events, you have people who do more than just fiber. You have beekeeping, self-defense, escape from restraints, winemaking, cheesemaking, soap making, and that's not even the bulk of it. That's barely even tapping into the list of the classes you can find at all these events. But if you are interested, I'm going to tell you right now, Prepper Camp is the place to be. It will set such a high precedent of what you expect from these events. I kid you
Starting point is 00:48:58 not. Prepper Camp is amazing, people, food, and probably the safest place on earth. Nothing against the other people or the other events. I've been to a few other ones and it's nothing against them. It was great for what it was, but it is not Prepper Camp. It is... Yeah, I won't say anymore because I might come off mean, but Prepper Camp is where it's at. Check it out, folks. PrepperCamp.com. It's the last, uh, was it the last weekend of September? Oh, now I gotta, I don't want to give any misinformation. Not on that. Rick and Jane would have my hiney. There we go. Prepper Camp this year is Septemberember 27th 28th and 29th tickets are on sale the prices continue to go up until the event is sold out prepper con 2018 was fun nothing on prepper camp right right exactly i've gone to um survivalist conventions and prepper conventions when we had them in
Starting point is 00:50:06 Memphis before that whole area through a whole conniption fit about there being guns and stuff yeah that was stupid um and I used to go every year for my birthday that's where I met Dr. Bones and Nurse Amy in person great people have had them on my previous podcast when I was a family affair. And don't get me wrong. Those events are great, but you know, look into it. Camping, food, people, vendors. I mean, you're not going to get this kind of camaraderie and everybody comes from every different walk of life. I mean it. I mean, it's, it's something. All right. Let me see. And this is probably, you know, it's funny, James, I'm going to shout out to you. We were talking about this last night about Prepper Camp specifically, and we were
Starting point is 00:50:59 talking about how it was probably the only place where we were comfortable enough that letting people hold our son. You know, for him, you know, that was his second year. My fourth, fifth year? I don't know. I've been going for a while. And it's funny because people know you at Prepper Camp. You become like family, even amongst all these dozens of faces that if Jane or James or Paul and Cameron or some of the workers there want to hold my son and walk around, I trust them.
Starting point is 00:51:39 I know these people. I know them like family, that they hang out with us. They communicate to us. These are people I talk to. I wouldn't say on the daily, but on the regular, we talk, we, we talk quite a bit actually. Sorry, I was checking the page. There's probably no time to update my profile picture on there because... Oh, look at Sarah. Okay, see, yeah, folks, check it out. You get to see the host.
Starting point is 00:52:20 You get to talk to them. I mean, great people. Great things. All right. I guess I need to get off that bandwagon, but I stand by it completely. James, what's going on at the Walton Homestead? Anything good? I need a drink of water, so I'll say something.
Starting point is 00:52:54 Oh, so I think I mentioned it briefly before. I have been making drop bags. I did make one and showed it on one of James' live, which Jay Panetti, one of our followers. Oh, I'm drinking water. He's drinking coffee alone. Nah, you're not alone. You've got all of us to bug you. And he said it was well-made. I'm waiting on to see some, oh, I want to go fishing. It's still too windy and a little too much of a chill here this morning. Tomorrow's supposed to be real nice, so we're going to head out early. Ooh, is that a crappie?
Starting point is 00:53:30 No. That's not a crappie. Is that a crappie or is that a perch? That's not a perch. I can't tell. What is that, James? I don't tell what is that James I don't know it's food I wouldn't be mad over
Starting point is 00:53:50 catching some fish a lar mouth it looks very similar to a crappie except the coloration so that's why it threw me off huh lar mouth never heard of it a copy except the coloration, so that's why it threw me off. Huh.
Starting point is 00:54:14 Lar- I've never heard of it. Large mouth. Oh, oh, well, that's why large mouth does. I feel like I can't, um, thank you. See, this is what happens when you don't have coffee or caffeine. I was going somewhere with a point and I forgot it. Oh well. I mean, that's me on Saturday mornings. You're gonna get me either riled up because of stupidity or you're gonna get me on a random
Starting point is 00:54:38 train where squirrel or as Pappy would say butterflies or you're gonna get me on a moment where I'm just so hyper fixated on something else. That's just what it is. PBNers, I appreciate y'all every Saturday morning when y'all come out here and jump in the chat, jump into the chat and speak with me while I'm on live. I do plan on, like I said, putting out more content. I'm trying to get my StreamYard set up so I can do this across the board. Um, so I can
Starting point is 00:55:12 post on Rumble. I have that account set up, looking at trying to change my TikTok over. I'm here, man. I'm not going anywhere. I don't think, even with some of the hard blows that life threw, that I would stop. I took a small break, I felt like, on podcasting. Prepping didn't take a priority. And I realized that was the problem. It is time to get back to what it is. All right, garden girl, have a great day at soccer. Can't wait to find out how that goes. I am actually going to wrap this up myself. We are coming up on almost an hour.
Starting point is 00:56:02 I have some errands myself to run. Little man is napping, so I am going to take a moment now. But elsewise, everybody, have a great day. Stay vigilant. Pay attention to what's going on. Be proactive in your lives. You know what? Reach out to BPN. Reach out to our group chat. Join us. You would be surprised the things that we know or we can learn just from each other. All right, folks, take care, have a great weekend, and I will see you next Saturday. Thank you for listening to the Prepper Broadcasting Network, where we promote self-reliance and independence.
Starting point is 00:57:12 Tune in tomorrow for another great show and visit us at prepperbroadcasting.com. Thank you.
