Starting point is 00:02:49 See, things change rapidly. This one from ChatGPT, the description of who James Walton is, is almost identical to Copilot. I don't know. There are many ways to measure what's happening with AI, but I can tell you it's changing on a regular basis. So the inflammatory title of the show came from, I don't know, just thinking. Like, do you know what it takes to become a prepper? What's it take? What's the entry fee for prepping? Zero, nothing Nothing You just wake up one day and say The world's screwed and I see it And those are the qualifications
Starting point is 00:03:31 You realize the world's fragile And then you say Well I know my buddy's wife Has been getting into prepping lately So I guess I'll get into it too I know the truth about some preppers been getting into prepping lately, so I guess, you know, I'll get into it too. I know the truth about some preppers better than most because when I became a prepper myself, I went right to the airwaves. I did not pass go.
Starting point is 00:04:00 I did not collect $200. I went right to the microphone. Now, I admitted to the audience, I said, you know, I don't really know what I'm doing. But I think we can figure it out together. And thus, oh God, 12 years later. 12 years later, the I Am Liberty show still reigns. That's impressive. 12 years then. First six years probably were no money, nothing.
Starting point is 00:04:32 No, you know, I remember when my podcast was solo on Libsyn. And I'd get excited because my podcast had 47 downloads. You know what I mean? Because my podcast had 47 downloads. You know what I mean? And I don't, listen, I don't back off of that either. Like, there's a weird thing that happens with numbers and downloads and likes. And it is, you lose how amazing it is that 40 people listen to you because remember this was this was also before alternative media was as big as it was 2012 not everybody's best and favorite
Starting point is 00:05:17 things were on their phone people were still watching television still believed the media to some degree still thought that big pharma was out to fix you right up still thought that falchi was anything but a but a damon um so i always appreciated that i always appreciated the fact that I talked into my phone for an hour and 47 people listened to it. And some of those people were Joe Prim. Some of those people were Ryan Buford. Some of those people were Chin Gibson. I mean, awesome people. People that I look at and look up to. Explain that one. But all these years later years later man many prepper shows and content creators hence the reason i titled the show the way i did is because you know how do you know
Starting point is 00:06:16 who can vet all of them right who can vet them all? Why should I listen to PrepperMama1229's video on the World Economic Forum and how to prepare for it? What are the qualifications? And of course, the interesting thing about it all is that you don't need qualifications, right? Did I put this in a live show? Oh, I did. The most beautiful thing about being a prepper is the entrance is nil. The entrance fee is nil.
Starting point is 00:06:56 We're wide open, baby. Always taking applicants. But the reason I titled the show what I titled it is because everybody's coming at this thing from a different angle. And we also always have to beware. We always have to beware of people who are out to sell you a thing, over-prepare you for a thing.
Starting point is 00:07:23 You know what I mean? I live in this world, in this conundrum world now. It's day three since the World of Ready is published, and I thought I'd have a Sauvignon Blanc. Very rare for me. If you are terrified of alcohol Or if you don't have a good relationship with alcohol Or if you have no relationship with alcohol I would tell you that one of the best ways to live with alcohol Is to make a pact that you drink only to celebrate It's really hard to go wrong that way
Starting point is 00:08:02 I remember my sister's boyfriend, years and years and years ago, was drinking at home alone. And this was a big deal in my sister's eyes, and I'll never forget her talking about it. She was kind of mad at him. What are you doing drinking at home alone? It portends something much worse, right?
Starting point is 00:08:30 And what I've devised, because I don't really, I'm not a huge fan of alcohol to begin with. But what I've devised, this was laying around because I had a, it was open. Because I had a shrimp scampi last week. It's phenomenal. Shrimp scampi. You make shrimp scampi, right? Saute the shrimp in butter on low heat. Don't kill your shrimp.
Starting point is 00:08:57 If they shrivel up to nothing, you killed them. I like the shell on. I like the veined shell on. Shell has a lot of flavor in it. Once that shrimp is looking good, lots of minced garlic. Once that minced garlic gets fragrant, then it's the white wine. You reduce the white wine and the liqueur de shrimp down a bit.
Starting point is 00:09:29 And then you mount au beurre. Or in other words, you know, mount with butter. And lots and lots and lots and lots and lots of butter. And I had mine over linguine. I love it. Scampi over linguine. Scampi over linguine. Scampi over angel hair. You know, it's just one of my favorites.
Starting point is 00:09:49 It's easy. It's easy. It's French-Italian food. It doesn't even make sense, really, when you think about it. Shrimp scampi is such a weird thing. When you hear shrimp scampi, you think Italian, right? But, I mean, it's, I don't know. Do you think Italian?
Starting point is 00:10:06 To me, it's always been better with pasta than anything else, but it's decidedly French cooking, white wine, tons of butter, right? I don't know. Welcome, garden girl. Thanks for joining me tonight. Appreciate it. So yeah, an inflammatory title to get a point across. And the point is there are a lot of new preppers. You can look at the title a number of ways. There are a lot of new preppers, and I do think they don't know what the hell is going on. Because it's really hard to know what's going on. It's hard to know what to do.
Starting point is 00:10:47 It's hard to know what to do. It's hard to know, you know, when you're in what I call the purchasing phase as a prepper, you're in a different realm than the hosts of the prepper broadcasting network. You're in a different phase. It's like the nine circles of prepping. You're just in a different phase. You know, there's more buying than doing because you haven't established the things to do yet. So you start to think to yourself that prepping is this game, this checklist game. And I get through this checklist and everything's going to be okay. And as you become an old rogue lion on the field, on the, what is the word I'm looking for?
Starting point is 00:11:32 The Serengeti of prepping. Prepping becomes more doing than buying. You are somewhere along that, somewhere along that on your journey, right? Somewhere along that path. You're either entered into the buying phase exclusively, trying to figure out the best bag, trying to figure out the best knife, trying to figure out the best guns, trying to figure out the food storage thing and calculating that. What should that look like? Right? And of course we have our homesteading and prepping spreadsheet up there that is, you know, that it's a calculation spreadsheet that you tell it, I'm bringing six people into my home, or I'm going to have a total of eight people in my home. How many chickens, how many goats, how many ducks, how much rice, how many beans? It does it all. It spits it all out. It's brilliant.

Why would they publish this on the 30th? Why would they publish this on the 30th? Greg Ritchie published this article on the 30th for a sale that ended on the 29th. Could that be right?

For example, if a purchaser enters their credit card information in an online shopping website on Monday, April 29th, which is over, at 5 p.m., but the generator will not be shipped to... Whoever wrote the headline, that's the headline to this article. DK Preppers, colon. Wednesday, 17th of April, comma, 2024, colon, supplies that may last me two to five years. I have no clue what this is even about. Daily costs.
Starting point is 00:22:38 So what items do they say? What do they recommend? Water, food, battery powered hand crank radios, flashlight, first aid, extra batteries, whistle, dust mask, plastic sheeting, duct tape, towel lets, wrench or pliers, manual can up a local map, stuff. It's not bad. It's not a bad list. Not a bad list at all. Toothpaste, petroleum
Starting point is 00:23:00 jelly, razors, first aid, coffee. Better have that disaster coffee, baby. Ah, these are not so good. Not so good. So never forget, you know, on this preparedness journey of yours, that we all come here to some degree neophytes, greenhorns, if you will.
Starting point is 00:23:30 You know what I mean? And everybody is that way to some degree. What brings us to bear the strongest is standing around the fire at Prepper Camp year two. Was it year two or year one? I think it was year two. Standing around the fire at Prepper Camp and talking to a group of guys who would turn out to be special forces people. special forces people and all the things that they talked about wanting to learn here at Prepper Camp. And that was one of those moments where I realized, like, this is a big thing, you know, this prepping business.
Starting point is 00:24:19 This is a big thing. There's a lot. We ask a lot. There's a lot to learn. You know what I mean? And even when you feel like you know something, you still don't know hardly anything. And there's so much I don't know. There's so much I don't know.
Starting point is 00:24:33 There's so much I haven't done. There's so much I've never even thought of doing. This is one of the reasons why people not only are, I think, falling into prepping because of the state of the world, but are also falling in love with prepping. For me, it always was an opportunity to do things that I otherwise wouldn't do. If someone had come up to me out of the blue and just said, Hey, dude, you should start blacksmithing. That would be cool. Or you should get a bow and arrow and start shooting it.
Starting point is 00:25:05 None of those, I those, no way. But under the umbrella of prepping and sort of building out things from the inside out and saying to yourself, well, you know, maybe shooting a bow makes sense, right? I used to listen to the traditional bow hunting podcast daily or weekly. I think it was weekly. Every week I'm listening to that dude getting hype, going out on the weekends with the recurve bow and coming home empty handed. And it was fine. You know, it wasn't, you know.
Starting point is 00:25:48 I was visited this evening. Oh, for the members, you're going to get to see a hilarious video. Oh, my God. It's short, but it's, I created a contraption. That's the best way I can put it. I created a tree trimming contraption that is so out of order. And it was simultaneously a test of the contraption, a test of my own will, and a test to see if whether or not I could take a serious limb off of a serious tree in my backyard. limb off of a serious tree in my backyard because it had expanded out into i mean the tree grows so fast i think it's a birch it's enormous judging by the leaves um it is expanded so much outward
Starting point is 00:26:38 that it's really was really depriving my garden of essential sunlight so it had to go it was too high for me to reach with the thing that i would normally trim with it was too thick i'd be sitting there sawing at it forever and you'll see it all probably tomorrow i'll put together the video for i recorded a few different parts of the video and it's good it's good it worked i mean you know it almost didn't work good it's good it worked i mean you know it almost didn't work a couple times but it worked adaptability is one of those things we don't appreciate enough early on in the prepping game right when i say the preppers don't know a thing it's because a lot of us we don't know a thing right It's because a lot of us, we don't know a thing, right? We hardly
Starting point is 00:27:26 know anything. What do we know? How can you know? You know, in order to be the ultimate prepper, it's impossible. It really is. But I do want you to understand that there are a variety of voices out there who are tempting you. And I don't think it's the worst thing in the world to be tempted by clickbait titles and stuff like that. I mean, what do you think this title is, right? But when someone lives and dies on clickbait titles, I think it should give you pause, you know? You should probably say to yourself, what other things are being foisted upon me that

Starting point is 00:34:13 We've got, what do we want to do? What do we want to do? News is not really, I'm not feeling it. I think I'd rather wax philosophical on prepping than I would talk about anything in the news. There was a big ruckus, you know, nothing surprises you anymore, but there was a big ruckus in the chat room, the Signal host chat, about Joe Biden and his, they're weighing possibly bringing the Gazan refugees to America. And of course, you have no say in that. Your representative will betray you.
Starting point is 00:34:56 And, you know, they'll do a Mike Johnson job on you. And you'll say, what? Why did you vote for that? Because I'm here to represent the people, not the American people. So you grow up in an illusion that the police and the government are here to help and they're going to take care of you. You know, you grow up in an illusion that people all get along, everything's going to be fine.
Starting point is 00:35:30 At some point in time, that starts to crack. I know a lot of people go to the military, they come back from third world countries, and they're like, oh, yeah, it's time to get to it. It can happen much later in life, you know. It can happen much later in life, you know We're getting sort of the drive-thru fast food version Of prepper initiation right now That seems to be what's happening Right?
Starting point is 00:35:57 It just is what it is But eventually, you know, you wind up in a situation Where you're one of these preppers who doesn't know what the hell is going on. You don't know what you're doing. And that's because a lot of us don't know shit. You know, we don't know what we're doing. And it's not to say anything bad about anybody. You have to understand what is being asked of you is tremendous as a prepper. You know, what is being
Starting point is 00:36:28 asked of you is so tremendous and so overwhelming. Although the feelings of anxiety that I get based on like our government, their actions, you know, things happening in the world, pale in comparison. No, no, no, I'm sorry. Those reactions really take the cake in comparison to the anxiety I have over prepping and prepping stuff. Things I haven't learned, things I should learn. You know, it doesn't really drive me crazy. It's more of an opportunity. But what we're asking people is wild, right?
Starting point is 00:37:09 We're asking you to become masters of water storage, food storage. We're asking you to become capable of cooking and preparing foods in a variety of situations with a variety of tools you might have never used before. variety of situations with a variety of tools you might have never used before. We're asking you to become, you know, responsible gun owners who are proficient, at the very least, with their firearms. We're asking you to take on the trials of self-defense. Of course, if you're at all listening to PBN, then we're always pushing you to get in shape.
Starting point is 00:37:54 And that in and of itself is enough to drive a person crazy, right? Just to say, all right, well, it's time to get in shape. So I have to get in shape. I have to learn to shoot. I have to learn to fight. I have to become an inventory taking Water humping You know, when I say humping
Starting point is 00:38:10 I mean carrying Sort of lunatic And I haven't even made it to first aid yet I haven't even made it to foraging And wild medicine yet I haven't even made it to You know what I mean? We haven't even talked about animals
Starting point is 00:38:23 And animal husbandry We haven't even talked it to, you know what I mean? We haven't even talked about animals and animal husbandry. We haven't even talked about gardens and permaculture. I want you to know that it's okay to be good at two things in the prepping world and to have this wide field of skills and stuff that you're not good at and you don't understand yet. It's the case for most preppers. You know what I mean? That's the case.
Starting point is 00:38:54 Because the truth behind prepping, the real, and it's a truth that a lot of people, new preppers, don't want to hear because of the state of the world. new preppers don't want to hear because of the state of the world. The truth is we're dealing with a situation that takes a good decade to really shore up. You're dealing with a set of skills and obligations and all of these kinds of things that maybe in about 10 years you'll feel pretty good about. That's not to say there aren't things that you can do that'll make you feel good tomorrow. But when it comes down to the bigger picture,
Starting point is 00:39:34 you're probably every bit of 5 to 10 years out before you really say to yourself, I'm glad I started this prepping thing and I feel good. You know what I mean? That's a big deal. We're talking decade now. So it is true that most of us don't know what we're doing out here. But I do want you to beware of the people who are going to take this moment
Starting point is 00:40:02 and try to scoop you up and try to influence you in a way that doesn't make any sense or in a way that only makes them money. You've got to understand, guys, I don't spend my days watching preppers on YouTube and getting angry over clickbait video titles. I see them. I see the Black Scout survival guy, whatever it is. He always has some crazy clickbait title.
Starting point is 00:40:31 Probably a good dude. He's just on his grind. It is what it is. But what I see that you don't see are the invites that I get in the freelance writing world. The invites to certain types of jobs with people with certain types of intentions. It's pretty common for me to get an invite to a job and turn it down solely based on the game plan.
Starting point is 00:41:00 Is this going to really add value or not? Is this something that, are you going to use AI in this? What's the game plan here? I can't be a part of it, you know what I mean? I literally can't be a part of projects sometimes, even if they're going to pay well, because I can't put my name on something crazy like that. But there's people out there.
Starting point is 00:41:24 You know, the worst thing, the worst thing about the off-grid projects book I wrote is the landing page. The book is so damn good, but if I visited a landing page like that, I'd immediately leave. I don't care what they were telling me. This is the one book that you need
Starting point is 00:41:45 And it'll save you in a collapse The landing page With the video attached to the landing page That's an automatic Get me the hell out of here You know And I miss out on a great thing Because that book's amazing
Starting point is 00:42:00 It's horrible to tell preppers that there are threats all around the world that they're concerned with and preparing for. And they also have to concern themselves with preppers and survivalists and products that will fail you. You know, don't get your preps from Timu. That's probably a good step. It's a really good, another really good step is to align yourself
Starting point is 00:42:27 with companies that are in your budget range and do your desired thing. You know? Like some companies for me that have really panned out have been Kershaw. You know, Kershaw,
Starting point is 00:42:42 I carry a Kershaw knife almost every day and have done so for a very long time. Because I can go get a great Kershaw for $40, you know, beautiful knife, sharp, works well, does what I need it to do. 3V Gear was an early sort of, what were they? Starting point is 00:43:13 I always used their stuff. And I use 3V Gear bags more than I've used any other brand, to be honest. The Redline series I've used a lot the the sling what's it called the outlaw sling i used that thing for five years until it was falling apart daily carrying firearms carrying all kinds of stuff there was a time when that thing carried diapers and wipes you know what i mean That thing was fully capable. Right now I'm carrying a fishing backpack,
Starting point is 00:43:51 and it's doing a hell of a job. It really is. It's kind of nice. But it's good, especially early on, to align yourself with these companies that not only do what you want to do, but are within your budget range. You know, like, you don't need Arcteryx. You don't even need, what's the other great bag company
Starting point is 00:44:16 that their stuff is so expensive? They do the Commuter Sling, which is really nice looking. I can't think of it. But there's a bunch of brands like that out there. You know what I mean? That'll put a real hurting on you. You'll see people online wearing it, using it, 5.11. You know, 5.11.
Starting point is 00:44:35 Look at the 5.11 pants. They're only $85. All I can tell you is this, folks. And I'll leave you with this piece of advice. If you're hearing me, if you're within the sound of my voice, you've come to the right place, man. You know, if you're a new prepper, you have got to dig into this PBN family.
