Thank you for the...
Self-r-r-lines and the business.
The Pepper Broadcasting Network.
We have to hit the reset button and create a true culture of preparedness, starting at a very young age and filtering all the way up.
Welcome to the gunmetal armory. Here's your host, Dane D.
What's up, everybody?
Decided to go live tonight just for fun.
And I hit the wrong button when we first started, so that's okay.
I am a human being and I mess up sometimes.
So tonight we are going to be talking about World War II resistance cells once again because it's a lot of fun.
And tonight we are actually going to be covering the instructions given to the spies that operated during World War II for the SOE and the OSS, BCR, and the other entities that operated behind enemy lines, British Commandos,
Marine Raiders, so on and so forth.
We are going to be talking about the instruction given to them on night movement, movement at night.
So we'll get into that real quickly here.
But I have a couple of things I want to talk to you guys about briefly first.
Number one, my wife, the Mistress of Metal, is going to be doing a show on Prepar Broadcasting Network coming up here pretty quick.
She is putting together material.
She is going to be having some pretty amazing stuff.
I don't, you know, I don't take giving praise lightly.
You know, it is my wife, of course.
But, you know, I give credit where credits do.
And so far from what I can see, it's going to be an amazing podcast.
It may also be video as well.
She may get on Stream Yard and do some of that stuff too.
so we'll see how that ends up.
The podcast is going to be on homesteading.
I think that there is a lot of room to do homesteading on a podcast.
So, you know, and there's plenty of listeners for everybody out there, right?
So she's going to be doing that.
Stay tuned for that whenever you guys just keep your ears out.
And I'm sure you guys will see it very, very soon.
Moving on to the next thing as far as podcasts go.
yours truly was recently this last sunday i was on uh toolman tim cook's uh podcast uh the one where he streams
live and uh it was just a just a stellar time just so much fun i had a blast on that uh on that
podcast with him i honestly uh guys he is just a really really nice guy can't see enough good things
about him very smart very knowledgeable um we talk
about lock picking covert entry we talked about ways to secure your house we answered
multiple just multiple questions in the chat there were a lot of people in the chat I've
never seen that many people in the chat before so it was really really cool man it was
very very fun a lot of engagement and seemed like a lot of really cool
listeners for his podcast so I was quite impressed
I had fun and his podcast is amazing.
So if you guys get a chance, go over and listen to it, okay?
All right, guys.
And then the final thing that I want to talk about is actually some Second Amendment news that kind of, you know, kind of made my heart sink a little bit, guys.
I don't know if you guys pay much attention to Second Amendment news and stuff like that, but I was reading Armed American News.
which is from the Armed American Radio Show.
And there was an article in there by Lee,
the gunwriter Williams,
that was put out just two days ago,
armed American news.org.
And the title of the article is
concealed carry illegally banned
at upcoming Desantis event.
Why would Ron DeSantis,
or his campaign,
ban concealed carry at one of their events?
this this doesn't track you know he's he's he's supposed to be a second amendment supporter
you would think that those values would be important to his campaign as well so i mean a lot of
questions get raised immediately by this article okay so i'll read you a couple excerpts from it um
it says donors attending the upcoming ronald regan black tie and blue jeans barbecue
will have to decide for themselves whether hearing Florida Governor Ronda Sanchez speak
is worth an infringement on their Second Amendment rights.
The $60 per plate fundraiser will be held Thursday
in the Legacy Park Multipurpose Center,
a public building owned by the city of Alachua, Florida.
I'm sure I butcher that, but I do my best.
Which is taxpayer-funded and supported.
The barbecue was organized by the Alachua County Republican Executive Committee.
It's their annual fundraiser.
It says once attendees purchased tickets online,
they were warned in an email that their gun rights would be forfeit.
Here's the actual screenshot of the email.
Important notice.
Be aware that all guests will be required to pass through a security checkpoint
at entry, which will include scanning by metal detector.
It says the warning was signed by Ann Stone,
treasurer of the Alatrol County Republican Executive Committee.
So this, I'm kind of at a loss of what to say here.
I know not every Republican supports the right to keep and bear arms
to the level that someone like me does,
or to the level that, you know, a lot of,
people that understand the right and why it's there do if you understand the right and why it's
there you believe that it is uncompromising every single law on the books regarding the
second amendment is illegitimate and unconstitutional the reason being is the language of the
second amendment is very plain shall not be infringed not one little bit okay that's why the
Bruin decision is so important. So the next part of the article says a Florida carry member
who purchased four tickets for the event told Stone in an email that banning firearms from a
public event on public property is illegal. He said in an email to her just a quick note,
since the facility is city owned on city property, concealed carry cannot be banned during
the event. That's the law. I hope everyone understands this.
Stone responded by warning the member DeSantis might pull out if he raised the issue.
It might be the law, she said, but Ron DeSantis is not speaking unless there are no guns or other weapons.
I think you'd be mobbed if you caused him to leave without speaking.
Delaney Beaumar, press secretary for Ron DeSantis, did not respond to several requests seeking comment before this story.
Very interesting.
So we basically everybody's given it the roundabout, you know, like everybody, oh, no, no, no, they, they said that we couldn't have guns in here.
No, no, no, no, we're not going to respond. We're not going to say anything.
No, no, no, it was the law enforcement. No, it was the campaign. No, it was the, the park center. No, it was the governor. No, it was, you know, it's like they're just going round and round and round and circles.
Let's see
Jared from Guns and Gadgets on YouTube
also did a video on this.
So, another part of the article says that
reached by phone Monday afternoon,
Anne Stone, confirmed that it was the
Alatua County Republican Election Commission
that organized the event.
However, she said that the DeSantis campaign
and the Florida Department of Law
enforcement gave them a list of specific rules. All I know, she said, is that he will not appear
if there are guns there. It's more his campaign. They're not organizing the event,
but they gave us the rules for having him on board, and that's the rules they gave us.
Uh-huh. Stone said that the Alatawa County REC did not receive a written copy of these rules,
adding that they were given vocally.
So does that mean that if they were given in written form
that they could more easily be sued
or more easily have to pay the $5,000 fine
and the removal from office that goes with it?
Oh yeah, by the way, I forgot to mention that.
This law, this Florida carry law, is preemption.
Okay?
And it has teeth.
the law states that if someone violates this
this concealed care or this this
carry law on public property
taxpayer funded that the person can be
immediately removed from office and pay a $5,000
fine I mean that
right there that's no joke
you know I don't
I'm struggling to understand the thinking behind this
and why
the campaign would have
allow this. It's, it's,
anyways,
so she went on,
this Anne Stone lady went on.
She said that
she possessed a valid
four to conceal carry weapon license,
but was more than willing to be
disarmed. She says,
I'm a gun person, but what I see
is that Ron DeSantis is an up-and-comer.
He's important, and he needs
to be protected. So I
have no problem going without my gun.
She's also said that she does not see concealed carry licensees as a threat but added that people bought tickets to begin with and who knows who they could be.
We didn't make the rule, she said, but we have to live with them.
Huh.
Okay.
So, another interesting fact is that concealed carry is that concealed carry is,
perfectly fine in the governor's office as well.
So Ron DeSantis is fine, and the governor's office is fine with having concealed carry in their offices.
But apparently not out and about.
Now, I think this is bullshit.
I think this is terrible.
I think this is absolutely a massive infringement on their rights.
And many, many people, I'm sure, or at least some, are going to be protesting this thing.
Even ones that bought tickets.
They may just be outside.
with picket signs unless these people fix this thing and fix it quick because it's probably going on
right now so i don't know guys i don't know what's going to happen here but it it seems pretty messed up
i mean i live in arizona you know but i still care about second amendment rights especially
when you've got somebody who's acting like they're a big second amendment advocate in a second
amendment state but they're not actually protecting the rights of law-abiding citizens no matter what
and that's the whole thing about the second amendment is either you're with us or you're against us
there is no half measures we don't play that dude so you're either with us or you're against us
and again for those of you that understand why the second amendment was put in place
you understand why this is so important okay it's not it's not a second class right
I don't know why that has to continually be reiterated,
but it is not a second class right.
I don't recall needing to get a license to speak freely.
I don't recall that.
I don't recall needing to get a license to make sure no soldiers took a residence in my home.
I don't recall that, okay?
So there's all these things that are just really, really messed up about this.
but I don't have all the information
and I'm going to reserve complete judgment until I do.
Okay?
That's one thing that my wife,
the paralegal, has taught me,
is wait for all the facts
before you make any kind of judgment call here.
So,
but right now my heart sinks, you know, it feels bad.
I guess we'll have to wait and see what happens, guys.
All right, so,
let's keep going here and we are going to talk a little bit about World War II and how the soldiers of the SOE and the OSS and the spies that were sent behind enemy lines, how all these fellers and ladies, yes, ladies, for those of you women out there that are listening to this, don't think for a moment that women were not recruited to the OSS, the SOE,
And all these spy agencies that operated during World War II, there were plenty of women that operated behind enemy lines during World War II.
Nancy Wake was one of them.
Okay.
So keep that in mind.
If you want to read about some real, true, heroic women, those are the ones you want to read about.
All right?
Those are the ones that you want to read to your daughters at night and tell them about what these amazing women did.
Okay?
episode is brought to you by Spreaker. The platform responsible for a rapidly spreading condition

publish it. So, let's talk about this wonderful book that I'm going to be reading from.
It is
It's a book about how to become a spy
And it is the World War II
S-O-E training manual
During World War II
They sent out multiple training manuals
Into multiple areas
For the instructors that are on the ground
To be able to teach the same syllabus
To all the students
So
This manual, this syllabus,
this syllabus, nothing like this had ever been done before.
All of this information compiled into one area, basically,
one instruction manual.
They had famous places where these soldiers were taught to be spies,
or these everyday people were taught to be spies,
to operate behind enemy lines,
to get things done that the average grunt could not.
So the books,
included, you know, or the instruction manual included things such as demolitions, how to blow up bridges, things like that.
They included how to conduct ambushes, which is something we've been talking about recently on a modern level and on a World War II level.
They included things on various other types of spycraft.
They included information on how to take out a century with a knife and with your bare hands.
They included information on all sorts of very, very interesting stuff.
Things such as final arrangements, communications, security, operational orders,
so many things that you just cannot believe how much is there.
They went into how to reconnoiter or reconnoiter various different areas and what you would need to do
to make sure those areas were safe or to make sure that you've got to operate in those areas
or to make sure that you could have a successful ambush of the enemy in those areas.
But one more thing that they talked about in the book,
there's so, so much more that we're going to go over.
But one more thing they talked about in the book was movement at night.
Okay?
Now, I know what you're thinking.
Why are we going to talk about moving at night?
you know i mean obviously it's cool to talk about it from the world war two standpoint but when it comes
to modern stuff we have night vision goggles we i mean we have thermal we have all these various
different toys that basically negate the ability to move at night or you know unless you have those
toys and then of course you're among a very elite group of people that have things that you know
really high level people do as well, right?
So the reason I'm going into this is number one,
it's historical, it's really cool,
and I've been doing a lot of the World War II stuff.
I think it's a very, very interesting subject.
But the other reason is this.
If someday something terrible happens in America or all over the world,
you know, let's say there's an EMP or something like that,
and 99% of all technology like Night Vision is gone.
What are we going to do then?
Well, you damn well better know how to operate at night without all your toys.
Okay?
Number one.
Number two, let's say the crap hits the fan, but it wasn't an EMP.
What's going to happen when you run out of batteries for all those toys?
You're still going to need to know how to operate at night or have some general idea.
of how to do it, okay?
Next, actually, after we talk about movement at night,
we will talk about movement during the day as well
because they do go into that too.
But first, before I start talking about movement at night,
to get myself in the mood for World War II stuff,
I have a 1911 in one hand.
There it is.
Wonderful, beautiful 1911.
And in the other hand, I have a 1311.
pattern fairbrin sykes dagger just a beautiful knife here you can hear it hear that that's my fingernails
going up against the blade of this beautiful knife anyways um it's a j newel in the sun's reproduction third
pattern fairbrin sykes dagger one of my favorite type of blades in the world the dagger actually
besides the carambit the dagger is my favorite kind of blade in the world okay let's get into this
book and this training.
Okay. All right. So
they talk about the movement at night
and how it applies to movement during the day as well.
However, during the nighttime, their primary aim,
especially while moving, is silence.
You know, there will be certain differences, of course,
with movement during the day and movement at night.
But as far as formation goes and basically the layout of your soldiers, how you want them to be laid out.
Like, do you want them in a V formation?
Do you want them in an X formation?
Do you want them in a diamond formation?
Okay.
They say that there will be no difference in how they should move in which formation anyway, whether it's day or night.
Okay.
They recommend that your soldiers should move in a single.
single file formation
for use in all
light conditions
doesn't matter if it's day or night
all light conditions
single file
at night that formation
will however be closed up
to whatever degree may be necessary
to ensure control of the party
by the leader
meaning that
he may not be able to see everybody
nearly as well as he would be able to
if it was the daytime
time. Okay. So he's going to need to maintain control of that party or his assault team or whatever
you want to call them. He's going to need to maintain control of that group. So that is why he's going to
close up those ranks. He's going to keep everybody nice and close to him so he knows where everyone is.
Okay. Hopefully that's making sense to you guys. The differences will come down to the
the route, the type of ground that you're going to cover, the area you're going to move through
over, around, and on. So there are certain factors that are going to influence the route that you
choose. They say that the best type of cover, just as you would during the day work, the best
type of cover, the route should give cover in most directions.
Okay, the best cover in the latter stages of the approach, but a different type of cover will be required.
The keynote again is silence, the key thing, silence, silence, therefore, of course, the thickest cover will very rarely be the best.
Hear that again.
The very thickest cover will rarely be the best.
Okay?
Why? Think for a moment. Why would the thickest cover not be the best thing for moving at night?
Well, think about it. Ground that's silent to move over will then be the first consideration, right?
If you've got too much cover, too much, you know, let's say bushes, leaves, trees, things like that.
Number one, you could fall into one of them. You could bump into one of them. You could step right through one of them.
you have a lot of leaf litter on the ground
all kinds of stuff making noise sticks etc
and of course moving through any kind of bushes
makes a ton of noise
so nice
open ground
or at least ground that's silent to move over
will be a very important consideration
on a very dark night
nothing else should be thought of
keep that in mind okay
on a very dark night, nothing else really matters.
Open ground is the key component.
I don't know if you guys know this or not,
but there are websites out there
that will show you which nights are going to be extremely dark
and which nights are going to be very well lit with the moon.
Now, if you are one that likes to use night vision,
you happen to have yourself some gin one, two, or three out there,
maybe even four, if you're really lucky.
and you understand how all that stuff works,
well, you're going to need to know if the moon is going to be out.
Now, granted, of course, you will have IRLuminators,
but those can only take you so far.
So keep that in mind, well-lit night or not a well-lit night.
That is a very important factor to consider.
All right.
Sorry about that.
If it's a little bit more light outside, if the moon is showing a little bit, like half a moon, not a full moon, of course.
But if there is a little bit of light, they talk about you would want to keep a dark background.
Okay.
If it is a very bright moonlit night, the consideration will be the same as for day operations.
Okay?
If there is a likelihood of search lights or any kind of lights being used, keep close to the cover that you can get behind quickly.
Remember that the direct route is a bad one nine times out of ten.
That goes back to sniper doctrine, right?
If you guys have ever seen the way the snipers operate, the direct route is always the bad one.
It's always the worst one.
If you listen to SEALs talk about how they move through environments.
They never take the path that everyone else takes.
They take the hardest freaking path possible.
The one that no one's going to think they're in or doing because it's too hard.
Okay, we got a pathway going that way right through the valley.
And we also got that mountain pathway there.
And then we got that one that goes up over all those rocks and mountains.
Yeah, we're going up over the rocks and mountains.
What?
Yep, we're doing that.
Okay. That's the whole key.
Okay. Same thing with a sniper.
When snipers are going out to cause trouble, you know, do their thing, right?
They need to be in the places that enemy soldiers would never go.
For example, in a sewer pipe, right?
In a bog of mud or around, you know, snake-infested area.
Places where there's ants everywhere.
They need to be places where no one's...
will suspect them.
Again, the direct route is a bad one nine times out of 10.
So if you're looking at your route and where you're going to move at night and you go,
that looks like the easiest route or that looks like it should work, don't do it.
Okay?
There's another reason why you won't want to do it.
Okay, just imagine I'm your instructor here, you know, World War II spy school.
You know, we're over at Camp X.
And I'm like, don't take the direct route.
there's another reason
because German Nazis
the German soldiers like to
mine those pathways
okay and don't think
for a second if the crap hits the fan
that other people aren't going to recognize
that that's the path of least resistance
and start putting man traps there
all kind of booby traps
are going to be everywhere
so keep that in mind
the next thing we talk about
is features that need to be avoided
These will be any features that may give you a way through noise.
Anything that can give you away with noise, you've got to avoid it.
Any farm yard and place where domestic animals are confined, that place is a death trap.
Why would that be?
Let's think about it critically for a moment.
Why would that be that any places where there's animals, farm animals, anything like that,
why would those places be considered a death trap?
Well, one reason would be that those animals are going to smell you or hear you.
The owner of the farm might not, or they may.
You never know.
But, oh, they're not going to smell you.
Well, maybe they might.
Anyways, the animals will give you away every time.
Okay.
there's a reason during Vietnam that the Navy Seals had something called a hush puppy.
If you want to know more about a hush puppy, we'll look it up online.
And then after you look that up online, no, it's not a little ball of cornmeal,
after you look up the hush puppy online, do yourself a favor and look up the Glock Hush Puppie pistol.
Okay?
Now, just as an aside, Glock didn't make their own hush puppy.
Someone copied the concept of the hush puppy using a Glock, okay?
Just so we understand each other there.
All right, so any place where domestic animals are confined is a death trap,
where there are known to be dogs.
The direction of the wind must be remembered.
Dogs will smell you on the wind.
Keep this in mind, people.
It is very, very important.
Even now, it doesn't matter.
Any time that you're operating in any environment, the dog smelling you is a big deal.
Okay?
And in a modern sense, okay?
Let's say, for example, you're so far away that the dogs can't hear you, they can't hear you, but they can certainly smell you.
If you've ever been out hunting and you see deer look up and their ears are moving around and they just take off running and you're looking at them through a scope and you've got to be at least 400 yards away.
they smelled you dude
they didn't hear shit
they smelled you
or something else spooked them
but
these animals are tuned for survival
and if you have an area that is
known to have dogs
and you're going to be moving through that
area
I mean it's going to be hard enough to move through the area
it's not like you're going to go through it
first and take out all the dogs there
no you've got to be
I got to make sure that you're upwind
the whole time. You don't want to be downwind
so the dogs can smell you.
So
having it to where the dog
cannot alert the guard.
They can't alert its owner when it
smells you instead of hears you
is a big important factor.
Okay.
Ground
that's noisy to move over
it needs to be noted on the
recon and avoided on the operation.
Love water.
When you are
reconning the area you're going to move through.
You might do that when you're out on a hunt.
You might do that when you are surveying your own property.
You might do that from satellite photos.
You might do that from, I don't know,
I guess satellites didn't really exist back then,
but you might do that on a picture taken by a B-52 flying fortress.
You know, there's a million different reasons
why you might be able to wreck you the area
or look around in the area.
but note the areas where the ground will be quite noisy and keep that in mind.
Try to plan your route away from that area.
Avoid all water and avoid all skylines.
Water, of course, makes a lot of noise when you're moving through it.
Also, water, when you get into it, you're going to maybe make a little bit of
of a mess. You know, there'll be some mud maybe. And then when you come back out of the water,
there's going to be wet footprints. There's going to be all kinds of sign that you went through
that area. So keep that in mind. The other thing, skylines. Oh my gosh, skylines. If you've
ever seen any kind of war movies or anything like that where dudes are walking on the ridges and
you know, it's got the moon behind them and they're looking around for bad guys, that is
bullshit.
No operator does that.
They do not move
where they have skylined themselves.
Because what? If there's a sniper
out there, someone out there with a rifle,
whatever, they're like,
freaking idiots are right there. I can see them.
You know, that's
not the way to move.
Okay? So keep that in mind.
That is something you do not want to do.
Stay out of the water if you can.
Stay off the skylines if you can.
All right.
It's less easy to tell when no one is silhouetted at night.
It's less easy to tell when one is silhouetted at night than in the daylight.
But you are even more obvious to the enemy.
So if you're back lit at night or even during the day, it's still troublesome and needs to be considered.
Now, if you have a team that's moving along the side of a piece of water,
They're bound to be silhouetted from some angle.
They're bound to be able to be seen from some sort of angle unless that water is down in a valley.
But your approach or your egress might be able to be silhouetted as well.
The water can reflect your, you know, obviously it's reflective.
It can send your reflection out too.
So this even applies to the sea.
If you're on a beach, something like that, that all applies to the same type of stuff.
Again, avoid the most obvious route or approach.
This is where the defense will be the strongest.
Just like we were talking about,
the enemy is going to know that area that you're going to approach from
is absolutely vulnerable.
So let's make sure that we plan around that.
Always find out the times of the rising and the setting of the moon.
Do not rely upon visibility being good,
while the moon is up.
Remember that the slightest change in light conditions at night will have a much greater
effect on seeing than in the daylight.
They can change very quickly.
Approach by a route that gets the moon behind the bad guys.
Just the reverse of the route you would choose with the sun in daylight, right?
Why would you choose to have the sun behind you?
during daylight approach.
Well, for a few reasons,
but mostly because it will blind the enemy
and make you harder to see.
That is the main reason.
Now, let's talk about clothing
for work at night.
Clothing.
What kind of clothing would you wear
to operate at night?
Oh, Dane.
I already know what I'm going to wear.
I've got a ninja outfit
that I'm going to wear
because I'm super cool and my ninja outfit is all black
and it has a super cool ninja mask
and some really cool tabby boots
and I'm just amazing
you don't have to tell me what clothes to wear
I'm cool
sorry I make myself laugh
anyways
the color of the clothing
is not necessarily as important
if the tone
is kind of a darker tone
or more neutral, if you will.
It doesn't matter how dark it is.
The tone being neutral is a little bit more important,
so it kind of more blends in.
Very, very dark clothes are bad.
When you see a man at night,
it's because he's even blacker than his surroundings,
where nothing that is very dark or very light.
So think about that for a second.
Next time, when it gets dark tonight, take one of your black shirts, go into or go outside.
I don't know, go outside if you can and wait for your eyes to adjust and throw that black shirt into a shadow.
You're going to see it.
Okay?
Or at night, you know, in your house.
Look for a shadow and throw a black shirt or black pair of pants, whatever, your shoes, anything that's solid black.
throw it into a shadow
you're going to see it
because black is too
dark to be in a shadow
okay that's why I was making fun
of the whole ninja thing because
it's bull crap
all right
also
anything that's shiny
it's got to go
either it's got to go
or it's got to be taped
over
steel teams work
you know very very very
fond of using 100 mile per hour tape especially S6 you know they were fond of using 100
mile per hour tape the military one not actual duct tape that we use the 100 mile
per hour tape that the military used was all of drab or very dark brown okay that
stuff did not reflect and they would tape over anything that might reflect or have
like a Velcro strap to go over it, something of that nature.
And anything that might rattle, they would cover up as well, taped down as well.
They called it battle rattle, okay?
And what they would do before they would go on a mission is they'd get all their gear on,
and they would each check each other's gear, and then they would jump up and down a few times
to see if anything was making noise, okay?
there's going to be a little bit of noise from, you know, like the LBE and your backpack and stuff moving up and down, you know.
But generally, when you're moving, when you're walking or you're stepping or you're moving through an environment walking quietly with your rifle, there shouldn't be much noise, if any.
Okay?
Maybe the sound of your feet just barely touching the ground.
But that's another reason why it takes extremely strong muscles, extremely strong.
muscles, extremely strong, legs, feet, ankles, hips, all that stuff back.
It all has to be ridiculously strong to move quietly and smoothly.
Okay, that's the best word I can come about smooth, move in a smooth way.
Okay?
This episode is brought to you by Spreaker.
The platform responsible for a rapidly spreading condition known as podcast brain.
Symptoms include buying microphones you don't need.
explaining RSS feeds to confused relatives, and saying things like,
Sorry, I can't talk right now, I'm editing audio.
If this sounds familiar, you're probably already a podcaster.
The good news is Spreaker makes the whole process simple.
You record your show, upload it once, and Spreaker distributes it everywhere people listen,
Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and about a dozen apps your cousin's swears are the next big thing.
Even better, Spreaker helps you monetize your show with ads,
meaning your podcast might someday pay for, well, more microphones.
Start your show today at spreeker.com.
Sprinker, because if you're going to talk to yourself for an hour, you might as well publish it.
That is the key to all this stuff.
All right.
So, next thing.
Let's talk about the next thing.
All right.
I love talking about this stuff.
So the next thing to consider here is,
going to be, we talked about the shiny stuff, but also let's talk about stuff that shines when it gets wet, right? That's something to consider. What about when things get wet? They're going to have a specific type of shine. They're going to have a specific amount of shine when they get wet. Do yourself a favor. Grab some of your fatigues or the stuff that you shoot in or the stuff that you think would be your Shtf gear, right?
I want you to grab some of that stuff, and I want you to take it, and I want you to get it wet.
All right?
And then I want you to look at it at night and see how shiny it is.
I want you to see exactly what you're doing with there, because a lot of people have absolutely no idea just how much or how different all this stuff looks at night.
people have no clue you know so definitely get it wet take a look see what you think see if it's
going to cause you any trouble i know i do it's just me um i also use my night vision take your
night vision goggles and or night vision scope or whatever you happen to have this night vision
maybe you have a camera on your phone that does night vision or maybe you have a ring camera
that has a night camera on it whatever
whatever you need to do to find out, but take any kind of clothing you feel like you're going to use
an S-H-C-F or anything like that and get it in front of a night vision camera or night vision scope,
goggles, whatever.
Oh, excuse me.
Got a little yawn there.
And check out exactly what that clothing looks like.
I know the other day I have a certain camera that I wear when me and my wife go out hunting.
I happened to walk out
and one of the ring cameras
that we have around our house
or one of the cameras we have
one of the other cameras we have around our house
it picked up me walking
and I had on one of my hunting jackets
and that jacket is a really cool
camo pattern on it. I'm not going to call out the camo pattern
doesn't really matter
but it has a really cool camo pattern on it
well in the night vision camera
it might as well have been bright white.
I mean, it was really easy to see.
Okay?
So just because you think your camouflage
doesn't necessarily mean you are.
That's something to keep in mind.
Okay.
So, moving on from there,
there must be nothing
that will be noisy while you're moving.
No squeaking shoes,
no creaking leather braces,
nothing of the sort.
anything that makes noise must be removed
any material that rustles
has to be removed as well
rubber or rope sold shoes
are the best
when this is not possible
carry a shoe cover
as described in the last lecture
okay we'll talk about that soon
shoe covers are another thing that we can look into
and talk about later on
the face and the hands need to be darkened or veiled
darkened or veiled even on a very dark night
when this would seem unimportant
there is the danger of a sudden light
unless the face and hands are darkened
this will show you up immediately
okay
so you always see soldiers
you know those dudes putting on face paint
and you're like oh man look at him he's got the face paint on
Right?
Well, it's a very good reason for this.
And there are specific techniques to how that paint is put on.
I'm sure there are a couple other guys on Prepar Broadcasting.
They could tell you exactly how this stuff is done, and maybe at some point we'll cover it as well.
But having your face painted and camouflaged is very, very important, as is your hands.
Or if you don't want to paint it up using grease paint or any of the other stuff that's out there,
camel compacts, anything like that.
You can use gloves for your hands,
okay? Depending on the weather,
depending on what you want to wear,
you can use gloves for your hands,
and you can use some kind of a hangariff or a balaclava
or a whole bunch of any other type of thing for your face.
So keep all that stuff in mind and don't forget it, okay?
In my bug out bag,
in my gear that I would use in a bad situation,
I've planned for all of this.
You guys need to as well.
Next thing.
Personal equipment.
In addition to the personal equipment mentioned for day work,
the following should be carried.
A stick.
You need a stick.
This enables the ground to be felt very carefully in front of you,
which is very necessary on a really dark night.
this must not have a metal tip, which is noisy.
If an old bicycle tube is available, the whole stick can be encased in it and tightly bound.
This prevents sharp noises when the stick knocks against anything.
The stick may also have a lead-loaded head as a weapon of silent offense.
So what they're saying is you can basically have some kind of like a walking stick almost,
You know, just like a blind person might, or, you know, like a gentleman of leisure might.
You know, you've got your little cane or your walking stick, right?
And you've got a lead-loaded head on there, just like a blackjack, right?
A sap.
You've got lead-loaded or even a fishing weight on the tip of your walking stick.
And you've taken a bicycle inner tube or even shrink tubing, put a bicycle inner tube on it,
and then shrink wrap around that, right?
shrink tubing around that with a heat gun and blammo man you've got a nice little feeler stick there right
Make sure that the tip of it's not metal so you're not going clack clack clack on a rock or something like that
You just tap tap-tap-a-roo you know I would even suggest a rubber tip on the very end of it
Okay, the end that you're going to be probing with rubber tip
the lead loaded end that may be something I
I will talk to you guys about another time.
There were multiple different types available.
There was also something that William Fairburn made and had a few manufactured of called a swagger stick.
S-W-A-G-G-E-R, swagger.
Man, that dude's got swagger.
He had swagger sticks, right?
Those things were used for self-defense.
They were used as weapons.
They were used for all kinds of different stuff.
so that's something to keep in mind but they basically give us the outline for how you would want to make one of these sticks
now if you want to put something like this together for yourself i would suggest you use a really
tough type of wood okay a hardwood of some sort you know oak um something like that something really
really hard okay um the other thing the lead loaded end if you could
find a blackjack, take that thing apart and attach it to the end of that stick. There are
multiple ways to do this. If you cannot find that, take a, let's say, a leather pouch. If you can
make yourself a leather pouch, not difficult to do. If you don't know how to do it, take a
wallet, a leather wallet, cut that up and then sew one side of it, right? It's already going to have
like three sides of it sewed because it's a wallet. Okay. So take the side of it. So take the
that's open, insert a whole bunch of lead shot from a shotgun shell, okay, or lead fishing
weights in there, insert a whole bunch of those, and then use some nylon thread, preferably
a really thick nylon thread, and sew that thing up, okay? And then, if possible, you can attach
that to the end of the head using any one of multiple different attachment possibilities.
Okay, you can, if there's a couple of holes in the end of the leather, you can take and drill a few holes in the end of the stick and attach it to the stick that way by tying it on there.
You can cord wrap it onto the end of the head, just like you would a knife, like cord wrapping the handle of a knife.
You can do that.
There are just a bunch of different ways that you can pull this off.
You really want to have some fun.
Get yourself a, I don't know, let's say a half inch.
diameter steel ball bearing and look up how to braid a monkey fist monkey fist um and look or look that up
online on like youtube and stuff and attach that to the end of the head of your walking stick
that'll give you something nice to play with there okay so multiple options i just threw out you
there if you don't understand how that's done or you're not sure or you're like man what what how
did you say to do that? Just email me. Gunmetal Armory at gmail.com. Okay, just email me. I'll tell you how.
Or if you can't seem to email me or you're sending it and you're not getting a response,
go on to my website, gunmetalllc.com and email me on there. Okay, there's contact form on there.
You can contact me that way. Okay. All right. So that's the stick that they recommend using and
keeping with you when you're operating at night.
The next thing, they say you want a small
flashlight, small pocket flashlight,
some kind of a flashlight you can use that's small enough to fit in your pocket,
and they say to definitely have spare batteries.
It can be encased in a section of bicycle tube as well,
the same way as your feeler stick might be.
The small flashlight, of course, the same reason applies
for the flashlight as it does for the walking stick.
Because you bump into anything with it or jingles or anything like that,
you don't want that to make any noise.
Okay?
It could also be bound up with cleaning supplies for your gun.
It could be bound up with a handkerchief.
A million different options are there.
Okay.
So also, keep in mind,
you will want to have a light with a red filter.
Or there are a few companies that make flashlights
that have both a red light and a white light.
There's bunches of them out there, dude.
There's some made by Surefire.
There's some made by first light.
There's some made by photon.
There's all kinds of them out there, guys.
But you definitely need a red light and a white light.
The red light is so you can read the map at night.
and not lose your night vision.
In other words, your own eyesight
that will allow you to see better at night.
That red light is extremely important for that, okay?
Keep that in mind.
Next thing, a watch and a compass
with glow in the dark dials,
whether it be tritium
or just something that is glow in the dark,
luminous, you know, that has to be charged
by a flashlight, something like that.
Either way, it definitely needs to be done,
You'll want to wear the watch on the wrist with the face against the skin instead of facing outwards.
You're going, wait, what?
I'm not talking about having the watch face inward towards your body.
You guys have seen people wear their watch on the bottom of their wrist over and over again.
That's not what we're talking about here.
We're talking about taking the watch and facing it inward.
So it's basically inside out on your wrist.
That way, of course, it doesn't reflect something very interesting and important to think about.
The compass is going to be the same type that you would normally want to carry, something like a lensatic compass.
And on top of the lensatic compass, I always recommend, and SEAL teams recommend this in their line gear, to have a wrist watch compass, one that would fit on your wristwatch compass.
with luminous dials.
And of course, you can hide that with a watch band or something like that
if you don't want to turn it towards your skin.
And a tritium commanga lensatic compass.
Okay.
And finally, very, very interesting.
You guys might find this very interesting.
Some cough drops or sweets to suck on while you're operating.
It actually prevents coughing.
They firmly believe that this was very, very important.
Otherwise, it wouldn't have been in the spy manual.
You need to have some candy with you or cough drops or something to wet your whistle so you don't cough when you're out there operating.
Very, very important.
You also, in modern times, very, very important as well.
But in modern times, you might also look into some allergy medication.
things like that right because if you're making noise it's not going to be a good time all right again
same thing as day work nothing needs to be carried which is unnecessary care has to be taken that there
are no noisy objects in your pockets and the leader of your group it's it's his duty to make sure of all
that stuff himself okay the leader of the party needs to check each and every guy
and make sure that they don't have any battle rattle or anything that's going to gleam or shine or anything like that, okay?
He'll probably, you know, if you're the leader, make your guys jump up and down on the floor, see if there's any noise other than that of your feet.
Okay?
Keep that in mind, guys.
All right, I hope you guys enjoyed this.
I'm going to stop here.
It's been freaking amazing.
