Welcome back to the Changing Earth Podcast with author Sarah F. Hathaway and co-host
Chen Gibson.
Blending survival fiction and fact to bring you entertaining education that will help
you dream, survive, and thrive.
And now, here's your host, Sarah F. Hathaway and Chen Gibson.
Hello, and welcome back to the Changing Earth podcast.
This is episode number 473, and we are somewhere within season 16.
We're kind of going to be jumping back on track of getting a regular show here.
But we've had some doozies since September.
And it was really nice to have Marjorie on last week.
That was a treat.
Yeah, that was great.
Right?
Hey, Tim, what's up?
Oh, my God.
I forgot to bring Tim in.
That's okay.
I'll just jump right in.
Yeah, you're just jumping.
As you should. You should know me well enough by now or no um yeah that was a treat she was great to talk to you and um
i mean the the soil decontamination process is one that i've really been looking into because
oh i don't know like she says everything's just impossible to kind of grow in Texas.
So if you can, like, make that process easier, that's going to be a good thing.
Yeah, I got some red dirt clay up here that's just, weeds grow really well in it.
But everything that you want to grow is a challenge.
Yeah.
And then you find yourself having to dig down to like be able to put in new soil.
And then, you know, after talking to her and about the bio sludge and all of that stuff, I'm like, man, well, you know, what in this world can you really trust anymore?
Nothing.
So it's all about like making your own compost we've been working
with an area in the backyard where we're just trying to feed it biomass you know like all the
chicken scrappings go in there um any of our you know literally just pine needles and and foliage
and we're just letting it grow wild and trying to just put biomass down
in that ground so we can rototill it in there and have an actual better dirt yeah because we know
it happens out here um my mother-in-law's place has way more trees and whatnot than ours does and
her soil is just beautiful it's like we'll just go over there and dig up soil. Right. Yeah.
So anyway, I have great news for everyone who's into the Changing Earth audio drama.
I put the final touches on episode 16
right before I got on air here.
So it looks like we're going to be able to just roll through the holidays with Changing Earth Audio Drama,
which, you know, makes a great Christmastime story.
It's very much a Hallmark movie.
So, yeah, nothing says Christmas like post-apocalyptic storylines.
Exactly.
Exactly.
Yeah.
I'll slide in a family feud I'll try and slide in a family feud
Where we're supposed to have it
I'll work that out
As far as the scheduling goes
But yeah it looks like we'll be able to run
Straight through to the end of episode 4
Or the episode
Season 16
Season 4 episode 16
I'm working with way too many projects Season 16. No, Season 4, Episode 16.
I'm working with way too many projects.
Right now, Episode 11 is up for your viewing pleasure.
Everybody go and check that out.
It is posted, and 12 is up for members.
I didn't skip a beat. I just scheduled and scheduled for Thanksgiving and whatnot.
So those are available. I also have some great deals going on the Changing Earth novel series. You're never
going to get another deal like this. You just use the offer code Helene. It's all on my website.
It's not really hard to miss. So if you know somebody who's into reading, want a great book
series for them, you're just not going to be able to beat the price I got on them right now over there.
So go and pick them up.
I only have a few of those left.
They are going pretty quick.
So get on over there, changingearthseries.com.
That's changingearthseries.com and get your copy.
We also have really cool shirts over there as well for the holidays.
Well, if you have a workout nut that you love or somebody that, you know, took the risk of going to proper camp, stuff like that, or just loves Shades of Earth merch.
Yeah.
So the shirts.
I was wearing my hoodie.
The hoodie still in there?
Oh, the hoodie is still up there.
I was wearing my hoodie yesterday.
Yeah.
The cold weather just came rushing in.
Oh, it did. and those sweatshirts
are so comfortable yep i had it on yesterday yeah they don't have the pointy hoods um i hate
i just hate them so yeah they have the you know they're good quality and really reasonably priced
honestly like 30 bucks for a sweatshirt that's like really good quality like that. That's a great deal.
So I try to make it as affordable for you guys as possible.
I don't make much off of that.
So it's all for you guys.
Get that Change and Merch out there.
Change and Earth Merch.
All righty.
Good stuff.
Yeah, yeah.
So today we're breaking down season three episode one it's been a while
since we touched back on the audio drama we've been busy and we had virgis so that was fun
fun to do another book but i really wanted to get back to season three because there's so much wilderness survival packed in particularly the first half of
this book that um i know i've said it before but i always wanted to do like the ding dong
survival tip right on it like do a live show of it where i could well maybe we'll do that i've
been looking at live casting on twitter maybe we'll do that I've been looking at live casting on Twitter
maybe we'll do that where I'll put it on
and then I'll just sit there
and give all the survival tips in the background
about oh
like the mystery
theater or what's it
that uh
dinner in a movie or whatever
is it sci-fi thing and they have
the puppets like
yeah how in front of the screen yeah that's pop-ups uh-huh yep i'm like yeah so that it's
something i really wanted to do with my books um my background is from gina maywell's books because
so much fact was put into her fiction that's what really inspired me to write this fictional story.
But also I've heard stories of women that were aggressed or whatever,
and because they seen some defense technique on Walking Dead,
they were able to defend themselves.
Get their katana out?
Yeah, their katana and spin in circles and suck them into the whirlwind.
Do a bobbit.
Yeah.
Hey, man, it's not held on by much.
You know, you got to realize that. Oh, stop.
Okay, we can change the subject.
I'm just saying.
Grip it, rip it.
Rick loved that.
He's like, wow, no wonder her husband's so respectful.
Well, that's the truth of it though so just jumping in to the beginning of the story virgis is talking about how the maps have changed you know that the world
that erica remembered back in the day welcome to my world yeah i was say, haven't we seen that in motion right now? Holy smokes.
So you have a big disaster like Hurricane Helene,
and the landscape is literally going to be different.
They're having problems with property lines,
where exactly the property lines are now and things like that back there.
So things are going to change.
If we have a big disaster that rocks the entire world, or at least the United States, your map might not be as reliable as it was.
That's something we've never really explored because we didn't have a high-definition picture of that particular thing happening, but we certainly do now.
We do now. Holy smokes.
Right?
And then it goes into talking about Chappie because Chappie passed away.
And Chappie had a brain injury from his battle.
This happens all the time.
People hit their head too hard they might appear
perfectly normal have bleeding on the brain and then they pass away uh hockey games actually like
people in the stands that have been hit by pucks this is happening i got hit by a puck yeah college
yeah you're crazy yeah yeah so um there there was a story of this lady who got hit and like
everything was good you know and then she died later and it's because no i didn't i'm still here
yeah yeah well i hope so i hope so i'm your co-host you're my guy i've been lost um
but uh you know there's a lot of medical things that we couldn't identify if we didn't have our modern technology.
A lot of women used to die in childbirth and things like that that we owe our modern tech to.
So it's really important for everyone to have a basic understanding of medical.
You know, a good book at the very minimum there's great examples um we have the one that we have on pbn i can't remember the name of it right
now um but uh dr bones and nurse amy have a huge pantheon of information over at doomandbloom.net.
And so book is the very minimum.
If you have a pre-existing medical problem, that's got to be thought about right now
before anything were to happen to the supply chain.
And it doesn't have to be like the Great Quake or some worldwide event.
You know, look at what happened just during the, you know,
when we had the medical incident going on and supply chain was slackened.
You know, things don't flow the way they're supposed to
and you're relying upon that medication.
You better have a backup.
back up okay next on the list is long range bug out blisters and pack rubs so they've been walking for days on the march i don't care how comfortable your shoes are your feet are gonna hurt like
you can't just walk um for hours and hours every day and not feel it
um so blisters rubbing from your pack i don't care how comfortable your pack is it still has
contact points on your body where it's gonna rub it's gonna be a pain in the butt so um they make the um monkey butt the powder you know that helps it is it literally is um
for like how do you carry your backpack on your butt it's for like rubs you know um guys that are
in construction wearing the tool belts around all the time yeah you get to rubbing and all of that's just you know annoying to the skin
and so and those blisters i mean that's what uh what lisa goodwin works with is the blisters that
turn into infections that turn into these um you know wounds that need caring for that's not the
situation you want to be in when you're not in like a clean environment so it's really really important to pay attention to those blisters uh moleskin
yep yeah we pair we put that in our packs i put that everywhere yeah i love moleskin
um when i was coaching ice hockey the the parents would always buy the kids new skates right before a week-long hockey game.
Not broken in, right?
Yeah.
It's the worst idea.
It's like hiking boots.
Yes.
Yeah.
And a lot of people do have that pair on the shelf that they're like, oh, this is for the rainy day.
Well, make sure they're broken in before you just throw them on.
So blisters and pack rubs.
I will link this over.
I'm going to link a lot of this.
So if you're getting information way too fast today and you're like, whoa, whoa, whoa, Sarah, slow down.
I'm going to put the topics on a blog for y'all.
I'm going to put the topics on a blog for y'all, and then I'll link it through to all the information that I have on these topics because the Changing Earth Survival Guide has a lot of topics in there now that are pretty important for everyone.
So I'm feeling pretty good about the pantheon of work that I've put together over there.
So I'll go ahead and link that stuff through.
Setting up a camp out of nothing.
So they're walking along.
They need to have this camp.
They find this area.
Rocks are going to be your friend.
They reflect heat back.
If you don't want somebody to see your fire, you shouldn't be building it above ground.
But we'll get into that later on in this series.
But as far as like if the fire can be visible and whatnot, putting it in an L of rocks is a good idea because they will reflect back.
Now I'm talking about like big rocks and there's a couple of different schools of
thought on this because yes the rocks are going to reflect heat but rocks can actually explode
with fire too moisture in it right yeah yeah the moisture can cause the rock to explode so i'm not a big fan of like throwing rocks in
the fire unless you know they're dry because that's a great way to actually boil water
is using hot rocks but um you you have to realize like you can't take a super saturated
saturated rock and just throw it in the fire you're gonna have a problem so this is where
you know getting out there knowing your skills ahead of time practicing with things ahead of
time is really important to prevent mistakes when you're in a serious situation but this story is
actually based off of this camp that we built up in tahoe when we were on a survival trip and we found this perfect l and the rocks and we were able to set up this like granite grill
just about and uh roast rabbit on the grill with our wild forageables we had collected
and it was really cool so there are you know they are super usable i wouldn't be afraid of
the rocks just know what you're doing.
Like, don't take one out of the lake and put it in the fire.
Have you ever seen one explode?
Not a big one.
Just smaller.
Just smaller.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
We've done it.
It's not pretty.
It's not.
And rock shards are, no. Yeah no no yeah you don't play with it
okay then we're going walking into a little bit of swenson's story obviously his is more about like
if you have a big supply of food and you have a big supply of water and you have a big supply
of weapons you're probably gonna be a pretty popular person
in that region right so whatever attitude that leader brings to the table that's what you're
gonna be subjected to and uh you know swenson had his way of life before the quake, and he's got his way of life after the quake,
and that's what you're going to be subjected to.
It was interesting talking to Marjorie last week
about her thought as far as,
here I am in the middle of Texas
with all these people armed to the teeth.
And, right?
It makes you think a little bit about like, oh man.
And also Selko, his stuff was always super interesting. And, right, it makes you think a little bit about, like, oh, man.
And also, Selko, his stuff was always super interesting.
He was the Bosnian War, I believe.
But his story about, like, 200 people show up in your front yard, what do you do?
Hopefully you have situational awareness. Yeah yeah hopefully you're not there anymore yeah
and you can escape to somewhere like he was in a walled-in city or like they had that
you know so um yeah i would definitely be alert as to uh who the players in your area might be.
All right, then Erica pulls this mistake.
This is just, she's tired.
She's just hugging her kid, just chilling.
When you're tired, tired, situational awareness is going to go down.
I know it from doing long road trips.
Yep.
And things like that.
And that's when mistakes are made.
That's when you get grumpy about mistakes.
So literally you need to account for those dulled senses.
The world's going to push you to do what you need to do.
You might not be able to control that situation, but you
do need to be aware if you are
tired
and you know it,
you're going to start making more mistakes. You need to make
sure you're back-checking yourself more.
And she left her pistol in the
backpack.
I mean,
totally unacceptable mistake right there but that brings us into force verse compliance
so one of the things that i thought about a lot when we were talking with Doug about martial law was you know I'm kind of um
I'm not always the most compliant person right and and there's just times when it's like
um is that to your detriment you you know? Think big picture.
Right.
If you can put that on the shelf for a minute
so you can survive longer,
then that could be to your benefit.
Unless it was like, you know,
something unacceptable is going to happen to you
that, you know, you'd rather die first.
But if you're not going to die,
and, you know, they come to your door and you know they come to your door whatever whoever
comes to your door whoever it is law enforcement or you know the mob with splencen in charge you
know if your compliance gets you another day of life to figure out what you're gonna do
then maybe it is best to go along for a little bit until you can figure out alternate plans.
Get a chance to read the landscape before you take action.
Right.
Right.
Like how they were waiting it out in Vegas, you know, for that moment.
Because they tried some attempts and things didn't work out.
Right.
So, yeah.
So that was a deeper thought process that I had to go through as far as thinking about like, okay, well, this may be what I want and where I stand firm on my values of what's right in this world.
But play along to get along so you can change what's happening tomorrow instead of losing your life today
maybe that is a better option at times yeah yeah so that was way to go doug thank you very much
uh i think it was like catholic school upbringing i love my lord and savior but boy those rules those rules just
got me when i was young it's the problem of being young yeah fair but money you know everything
young kids know everything yeah Yeah. Okay. And then obviously, so these guys come in and they now have control over Erica and Star.
So one of the things that I believe in and preach so much about is women's self-defense.
Gotta go young.
Gotta teach women young to let them know that the threat exists out there.
Hopefully they have good fathers,
but they have to know
that all men are not like their wonderful father.
And before, even when I was talking to Ben Brenham,
when he used to come on the show years ago, he would tell me, you know, Sarah, one in ten.
One in ten.
Yeah.
One in ten.
And now one in six Americans is an illegal alien that might have questionable backgrounds of where they came from.
And it could be a Venezuelan prison.
And it could be.
Did you see the graph that I shared in the back channel?
Yeah.
I liked how you saw the graph.
Yeah.
I was like, hey, that looks like middle finger.
I was just flipping off America.
It was a big spike.
Yeah.
It was a graph by years and the number of people coming across the border.
And there was this huge spike.
And Sarah says, that looks like the middle finger be given to America.
Right?
Oh, I just cracked up.
Well, that really got my noodle thinking because I was like, I like to believe everybody's a middle finger.
Did you see where they were coming from?
There was people coming from all over, like China, North Korea, Iran.
I mean, they didn't just walk here.
No.
No, that didn't just happen.
And you got to believe, like, North Korea, again, they didn't just get here.
No.
They were probably planting.
Yes, ma'am.
Yeah, because even to get out of that country.
That's what I'm saying.
I mean, some places, yeah, people are trying to get out of because of the condition that they're in.
They're trying to, yeah.
But some places, you know, they can't just get out of.
And it's not like they crossed into South Korea or, you know, whatever.
Yeah, went along like a refugee railroad or something.
This is like they went across the ocean.
Yeah.
That didn't just happen.
And just arrived on the shore.
Yeah.
Come on now.
Right.
So.
Now, that, yeah, that was really, because now that number's got to be a lot more than one in ten.
Mm-hmm.
And people have.
Yeah, because you're seeing some of the news reports in court cases.
They just, the, what was he, Vince Stone?
The guy that killed the.
Yeah, the gentleman, yeah.
Yeah.
Lincoln Riley, right?
Yeah, probably not gentleman.
I've got much more choice words that I wouldn't use on my podcast.
Some true word I'd.
Yeah.
But, no, just disgusting.
And then even just smaller stories like,
God, I can't remember if it was like mayor or congressperson in New York,
like their assistant was like assaulted right there coming out of work.
And I mean, there's just absolutely problems everywhere.
So I know that number has got to be much more than 110.
And we need, we live in, we were like raised in this world where it was like,
oh, everything is just so safe here.
So safe.
And it's not, guys.
It's not.
Like, you've got to be ready.
And live peacefully.
Live with that belief.
But know how to defend yourself just in case you were wrong.
All right, and then Vince takes this guy out.
So now the question becomes like,
what do you do with disagreeable people
when there's no police to call?
When there's no jail to put them in?
I mean, you just came upon this guy.
He had nefarious thoughts on his mind towards your family.
And, you know, you just kill him?
You just, you know, how is this handled, right?
Each situation is going to be its own situation.
You're going to have to deal with that.
You can't just call somebody and be like,
hey, I got a pickup.
There's long-term ramifications.
It's just not the quick fix.
What's three plays down the field going to happen?
Yes.
Yeah.
Who was he friends with?
Mm-hmm.
What kind of a mess is that going to start?
Mm-hmm.
Yeah.
There's so much that needs to be thought through there.
And what a crummy situation when you can't just call the police or, like, have somebody else take care of it for you.
This is going to be on your shoulders.
Well, again, back to Helene, you just can't.
You have to think about how you're going to deal with it when it's just your household dealing with it.
Mm-hmm. Because you can't always say that whoever the government or the institution, whatever it is, is going to come to your aid.
You might be the one that has to do it.
Yeah, and I've heard from so many people that like, oh, just come on to my property.
I'm going to just shoot you, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
Really?
And then what?
Yeah, and then what yeah and then what yeah what you're
gonna have bodies piled up all along the perimeter or what you know get a bunch of spikes around
yeah yeah like a day after disaster right i mean so i guess some people would you know they're
they're out there for sure there's for sure i've talked to way too many people on this topic,
and I know that some people just think differently
than you could even ever imagine thinking,
which is where I got a lot of the content for Mr. Swenson,
because they're there.
So you know that's going to happen.
But what about, like, the kid that comes up?
You know, what about that kind of situation?
And that could be a front.
You just don't know.
Yeah.
I mean, right?
So you always have to be ready.
We go back into Virgis' story, and Dolores is concerned about food resupply um because she's
getting kind of wiped out by all the traffic through there and uh so obviously that's going
to be a concern i don't have an answer to that i would my thought was always like okay we'd have
to go massive amounts of greenhouses and stuff but you have power requirements there which you could
work out even with human labor i mean if i gotta sit on a bike for eight hours to make sure i have
dinner that night well then so be it right right yeah um so i mean i'm not even talking like a
forest slayer type situation or anything i, human beings could think their way around this.
If we had like a Yellowstone or super volcano eruption that put us in the dark.
And we really had to think through like how we're going to make that food.
But look what happened in Spain with all their warehouses.
Like you just have one serious disaster come through like that storm that hit down in Valencia.
And that, you know, you've got how many warehouses that just got creamed and all that work to do.
And you, most of the time, like if they don't really produce, yeah, global food prices are going to go up.
But somebody else is probably going to be able to pick up the slack at this point.
We've been having a lot of pressure, but still, okay, in the world we live in right now,
we're going to be able to pick up that slack and make sure those people still get fed
despite maybe that greenhouse didn't produce for a season.
But in a future situation like that, I mean, can you really afford to lose
that massive amount
of greenhouse in one storm and hail is a factor that was like kind of rando i didn't really think
about that enough when i was putting together my book series and how much square foot do you need
of a greenhouse per person to how you know how big is your person how big is your
how big is your community
that you work with
I'll bring this up now rather than
in Changing Earth News because I was going to bring it up
in Changing Earth News
but because
of the drought in
oh my gosh I got to find it
that's one of the African countries
I think it's Zimbabwe Oh my gosh, I got to find it. That's one of the African countries.
I think it's Zimbabwe.
I'm going to say Zimbabwe for now.
And if I'm wrong, I'll correct myself later.
They are turning to farming maggots to supplement the food supply.
Little Texas beet hot sauce on there? Yeah.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
So, I know we have all
the bug slingers these
days that are like, oh, everybody should eat bugs while
we eat steaks. But like,
I guess that is an option.
My neighbor farms maggots too, but
they get fed to the chickens.
Right? Yeah, that's where I would
do mealworms.
Yeah, feed them to the chickens
yeah yeah i'm gonna eat the chickens but you know i and it's quite possible they were out there at
the chicken farms so it's quite possible they're being fed to the chickens in that situation as
well um i just know that like our food range here in the united states is kind of limited
even though we have a huge access we don't eat some of the animals that some of the rest of the
world eats so yeah or all the parts of the animals that the rest of the world eats yeah yeah because
we're spoiled so yeah yep okay and then um it's one of my favorite scenes actually when erica's walking with daniel
and she's talking about the realities of having to take somebody's life um and you know if it's
a necessity you just can't hesitate at all that's just a choice you're gonna if you decide to point
that gun you better be ready to shoot that gun and um that's something that my mom actually taught me pretty hardcore family i know but like
don't just standish don't just point yeah yeah because a lot of people are going to assume that you're not going to pull the trigger and they could get you
killed yeah yeah yeah so um that that would be a really difficult conversation to have with a 13
year old but that's the reality of the situation and when i'm training self-defense that's
definitely what i'm trying to instill upon them, is that,
look, you're fighting for your life. So yeah, you might be a little intimidated in this situation,
and it might be a little bit scary, but imagine when it's somebody you don't know,
and your life is over if you go with them. So you have to learn every step to be able to get out of that and return home safely.
So, yep, that one,
I do like that little scene, though,
with Erica and Daniel.
It's very touching.
The wild forageables.
Wild forageables are everywhere, guys.
But you have to know what they look like
and you have to know what is not a wild
forage bowl so in my example in the book i did the onions with the death camas and the reason i did
that one is because wild onions are everywhere like literally i was in uh mississippi i'm just
on the side of the road and here's wild onions just growing right there
i'm like there you go but death camas also likes to grow with them it looks just like them
so really oh i didn't know that yeah yeah death camas it looks just like a wild onion so if it
does not smell like an onion do not eat it it needs to smell like an onion, do not eat it. It needs to smell like an onion.
If you're like, I don't know, this doesn't really smell like an onion, don't eat it.
And there's lots of things that are like that, that are good and that aren't.
A book is a great start.
But I have found personally that a book pales in comparison to learning from somebody who has the knowledge.
It's really important to learn from somebody who has the knowledge.
And a book, there's four seasons, right?
Plants look different.
Sometimes books don't show it in all the all the different varieties or like
this one has better sunlight and grows a little bit better this one not so much so it doesn't
really match it exactly that's why i say and they have apps now too but i i i i don't i'm not
personally gonna really trust an app i don't know. And some of those apps are, I think, internet dependent.
Yeah, fair.
Like the ones where you take a picture?
Yep.
You know that's going through the cell service to get you your answer.
You don't have that database on your phone.
Right.
So that's not going to be there all the time
it probably won't be there when you really need it
because you're going to be out in the woods
or it's going to be a grid down
one of the two scenarios
and neither are good
situations to have
to depend on cell service
cell service
the two that I've found
that I like the best are the Audubon puts out a book of like for
regional areas i love those and um like if you can get a hold of native american resources from
your area there's been natives that probably have written books about what's in your area
that that is traditional to their people.
Other than that, I will link through to a lot of the,
I tried to focus on things that you can find across the United States.
Sorry, I can't do the world for my world, my global listeners,
but things that you can find across the United States as far as like acorns and cattails and curly dock,
things like that, that you can find in any state.
Just because I thought that would be the most useful for everybody.
And that's a good place to start anyway, because what if you have to move geographical location
and then now you don't know
anything trust me one like i knew the area really really really well i was in and then you move
and now you gotta start all over again so if you have the basics of you know some good useful stuff
it's it's really really there okay wild protein is available. You just
need to know how to properly
skin it and gut it
so the meat's not compromised.
Even a squirrel,
you can't just go to town.
You've got to do things properly.
And how to get it from
the field to
where you're skinning
and gutting.
Right.
They don't just like walk up to you and roll over.
Some do.
In Sacramento at Sac State,
their squirrels were readily available.
Yeah.
They almost attack you.
Like I was eating my sandwich in my car and it's like looking in my window
from the top of my vehicle. Yeah. They're pretty attack you. Like I was eating my sandwich in my car and it's like looking in my window from the top of my vehicle.
Yeah.
They're pretty brazen.
But no, you're absolutely right.
You know, you got to have your trapping skills.
That's why I love my 22s.
I'm not planning on being in gunfights.
I don't want to be in gunfights.
I don't want to be in a fight at all.
Okay.
That's the plan.
And if I have to defend myself, I will. But the plan is to not be in a fight at all okay that's the plan and if i have to defend myself i will but the plan
is to not be in there so 22 is great for a small game it's quiet you can take a deer out with a 22
you just need to be a good shot and if you miss you miss and if you hit then you're having dinner
so that's why i'm uh it's quiet you know that's why I'm all behind my.22s still, no matter what.
All right.
So, we're moving on.
Virgis is hunting them.
He's hunting them with thermal detectors.
Big problem.
Yeah.
Thermal and night vision is going to give your team the edge.
thermal and night vision is going to give your team the edge the big problem i have with them is they require power of some type power batteries you've got to recharge those things
they're not like they don't work without power so good to have an edge i'm not gonna lie love repair night vision i know man it's it ain't cheap it's not
it's like three grand like for the minimum good stuff for good stuff yeah good stuff if i was
gonna like uh it would be nice for boar hunting to be able to have night vision so that's been
my thought it's like i really want to go take some boar down. And I know it's best to do it at night with the night vision.
We're having a conversation.
So there's a game club that I belong to up here.
And they were talking about, anybody want to go to a safari?
I'm like, I don't want to go to a safari.
But I would do one of those helicopter.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
With the 50 cal.
Oh, man.
How cool would that be?
Oh, man.
I've been trying to get my dad to do it for days.
I'm like, what better father-daughter trip is there than shooting a 50 cal?
Talk about adrenaline rush.
Yeah.
Yeah.
He was like, oh, let's go fishing.
I'm like, oh, come on.
That's so lame.
Well, I mean, it's not.
I would go fishing.
Don't get me wrong.
But, like, 50 Cal.
There's a big difference.
Helicopter.
A, fine and healthy.
B, shooting hog.
And, oh, my goodness.
Yeah.
So, there are ways you can get around thermal and night vision.
It's pretty trick. But there are ways you can get around thermal and night vision. It's pretty trick.
But there are ways to do it.
So I do have an article on the thermal that I'll link through.
All right.
Then the kids are out.
The kids decide that they're going to set up these Tasmanian devil traps is what they're actually called.
And I learned how to do this.
One of my survival instructors taught me how to do this.
And they're mean, man.
They are wicked.
And you can set up spikes on them.
And they're easy to do.
It's basically just twisting ropes around itself and then giving it a trigger mechanism, you know,
giving it some kind of a swing action and then giving it a trigger mechanism you know giving it some kind of a swing action
and then giving it a trigger mechanism so they're they're really really easy to set up
but you know once you set up a trap you've pretty much put up a neon sign that you're in the area
it's not just gonna magically like and the trap doesn't have a um
It's not just going to magically... And the trap doesn't have a...
Detector for making sure it's a bad guy.
Yeah, exactly.
Yeah, that you could get some friendly fire with it.
Yeah.
But they do talk a lot in here about slug trails,
which is really important.
I mean, just when you're entering the woods itself you want to leave minimal impact unless it's like your place and you're looking to
make a trail you know i'm always about minimal impact so um slug trails is going to be like
you're just walking through hacking with a machete you're gonna leave a trail even just walking through the branches
breaking off and things like that um sometimes you can't help it but your scuff marks on the ground
and the trampled ground this is what trackers are looking for to be able to follow you anywhere
is your slug trail so the more that you can practice. Kind of minimal impediment.
On the forest when you go into it.
The better it would be.
If you ever had to.
Outrun somebody.
For something.
So.
Hopefully that is never a necessity.
In your life.
But you know.
It is a method.
And. All right right the radiation sickness so in writing
changing earth and day after disaster i mean i started day after disaster and
a long time ago what a publishing away like i don't know like 2000 ish uh 2002 ish and the belief in my head
was always that like they had iodine tablets because it will like protect you from radiation
and or like you could paint yourself in iodine i've heard that before somewhere that you can like literally paint yourself in the iodine
and that it would protect you from radiation or what not so since that day i have met mr dave
jones and learned that most of that is just BS that is not true.
So the iodide tablets will prevent thyroid cancer that you would contract.
It like packs your thyroids, right?
And it blocks.
Yes.
Right.
The radiation from coming in. Right yeah but like for you and me
that would happen like if we got exposed today that would happen 40 years from now
and 40 years from now you know i don't know how much longer i'd be on the planet anyway
right come on now just say it i'll just say it i don't want to live be 120.
I mean, I'm just saying.
I'm just saying.
I don't want to live to be 120.
I mean, yeah, okay, maybe I'm going to get 20 years beyond that.
But come on.
But for, like, my kids, that'd be a big deal.
Uh-huh. I don't want them getting, you know, if we were exposed to radiation, I'd want them to have it so that they weren't getting thyroid cancer at 40 and
cutting their life short you know or at 30 kind of thing so that's where it's really important
and it's really important to learn you know what's kind of bs and what's not smaller people
will get affected more but if you want to know the ins and outs really you should
just go take dave's class it's like i was always kind of opposed to like learning about nuclear
and all this stuff i was like i just want to be out of here if we're facing that threat you know
but dave like really puts it in perspective on the realities of this situation.
Dave Jones, the NBC guy, you can look for it there.
And I'll link through to Dave's class, of course.
But it's definitely worth your time.
It's worth your money.
Because he gives you really clear instructions on things you can use that you have in your house right now.
clear instructions on things you can use that you have in your house right now so i'm definitely dave's not you know paying me to speak for him i'm speaking for him because that's where i learned
and um it was easy to learn it wasn't threatening and now i have tools and a better state of mind okay then so they're getting chased by these feds and clint's like i can lead you to safety
now this is the guy who was just threatening the family right so are you gonna be like oh yeah
that's a great idea we're just gonna roll you. He could be leading them back to like a whole group of people.
You just don't know.
But do you really ever know what somebody's thinking?
No.
So you're going to have to put it in God's hands at that point.
But I do have lots of articles on who to trust, who not to trust.
Ways to kind of tell that.
I wish I could remember the video I've been watching.
There's a guy who's a psychologist, and he's been working within military intelligence for days,
and he has videos out on YouTube.
I can't remember his name at all right now.
his videos out on youtube i can't remember his name at all right now but on like people's um just their body language and where they're looking how they're all of that i'm like making sure
people are telling you the truth or not which is never for sure going to be a for sure thing
because you have sociopaths and stuff out there but um or is it psychopaths one of them is
doesn't have the capability of i think it's a social playing nice in society oh yeah i of um
having compassion they don't yeah like see from other people's point of view so they just don't
care they don't have the same emotional reference. It's just not built into their brain.
Some people are conditioned to be that way.
Like Swenson is conditioned to be that way.
But Mr.
Lee is more like just that way.
He,
he doesn't really have a,
a compassion part.
Alrighty.
Women's self-defense,
like I say,
really key. We go into the scene with margaret
where margaret's just like kicking the heck out of this guy and yes you know because she's like
no you're never touching me without my permission and like i said before you teach them young
they're going to understand there's danger they're going to have the power to stop that danger all right then we're back with the moore family and daniel wants to go get a toy
and i was like oh well you are on the run you have no time for this yet they take the moment
to get the toy and the uno cards which are gotta have uno cards i mean it's got it so that's why you know entertainment
items are essential they have an essential spot in your go bag i know there's some hardcore
people rick that would say like they have no place in there like no cards or anything
but man you're gonna need that time to just lighten the
mood to just play a game to just get your brain off of the maximum amount of stress that you are
just undergoing um who's the gentleman that we talked to um from venezuela
he really put that in perspective for me yeah well you're just talking about him I know
not telco oh no yeah no I was thinking about um the other gentleman that we that was on the show
and he's now he just popped up on my youtube too
yeah he he really put it in perspective as far as like mowing the lawn and how like he would
mow the lawn strapped and then the neighbor who didn't have a man around would like come out and
mow at the same time as him because then at least she kind of had somebody there i mean that is a maximum stress
load if you are like sitting there waiting for your neighbor to mow the lawn because you yeah
that's crazy so that was like reality check little you know american grown up in your little safe society doesn't think that anything exists out
there. You know, that, that was crazy. And on that topic too, just how blessed we are. You know,
they're talking about the grocery store and how there's everything in there that you can eat.
And it was so great. We had ice cream and cookies and candies and da-da-da-da-da. How blessed we are.
Like, guys, you got to take a minute and just thank the Lord for all the blessings we have in this country.
I don't think we do enough of that.
And we just take it straight for granted.
And we have access to food items.
It's like each one of us is like, you know, a Roman elitist.
It's like each one of us is like, you know, a Roman elitist because everybody has that same privilege to have access to those options.
They're getting a lot more expensive.
But comparatively to a lot of other countries, like we are so spoiled.
So you've got to take a moment to thank the Lord for our blessings.
All right, then they're going in the tunnel system.
The tunnel system.
I'm still not sold on, I have a great article,
a great interview that I did actually way back in the beginning with Ron White on survival shelters.
the beginning with rom white on um survival shelters but i'm still not sold um i'm sorry not rom white with uh raymond dean white i was thinking of the comedian yeah he was on my show
you know um i'm still not sold that bunkers are not just tombs.
And it would take a lot of convincing to convince me otherwise
because I just don't know
that I would want to be in a bunker under the ground.
That's just crazy.
Uh-oh.
Did I lose you, Chin?
Nope, I was there.
I was just looking up Fernando.ando oh yeah thank you thank you
you're absolutely right fernando fernando you know yeah he was a really cool guy to talk to
thank you he was and he was he was so funny because way way way back in the beginning of
this whole thing i just like what was watching this video and i like made a comment
and then we got like one or two emails and also my phone rings and he was calling me
right so it was pretty cool yeah he's cool he's like i'm just gonna reach out
yeah he that's what he did that's cool that's crazy that's really cool
maybe we don't do enough of that these days it's
always texting and whatnot but yeah what do you think shelter or tomb you going down in there
if you like somebody came to you and was like hey i have the most tricked out bunker
it's not gonna fail i don't know because yeah it's like which which what's plan B once you're down there?
Right.
Is it one way in, one way out?
Or do you have like a good hidden exit someplace else?
Yeah, how does that work?
And I know they have like air reserve systems on some.
Yeah.
Like some are being fed from the top.
So if they attack your air supply, forget about it.
Yeah.
You know.
Yeah, I'm not sold.
I'd have to take a lot more convincing to get sold on.
Yeah, Sarah, let's go into this bunker.
It's going to be good.
I'd be like, no, I think I'm going to not do that.
I'm good. I know. I might just going to not do that. I'm good.
I know. I might just die on the top, but that's cool.
Okay, and then Virgis' team runs into Ryan's team.
So when you have two armed groups meeting in a conflict, you know,
and they're kind of working together kind of not so i can should have like a military somebody who's been you know in action to be able
to come like what happens in those types of situations how How do you navigate that water? You know?
Hopefully you have people that know how to
speak well.
Right? Or like superior firepower.
Because once the trigger's pulled, yeah.
Yeah. Yeah.
Like the shot heard around the world.
Mm-hmm.
Yeah, once that first shot goes down,
then it's over. So that that i'm sure there's all kinds
of cool outcomes we can probably write 80 books just based off that choose your own adventure
all right uh covering your track so back into the you know the slug trails
um some of the ways that i was taught to be able to cover your tracks in a situation
like that is making multiple tracks really confuses the heck out of them um different
directions and all that if you have time hopping back and forth over fences because if they have
dogs tracking you every time you hop over a fence, that handler has to lift the dog.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And that's just a pain in the ass.
So, and then a change of shoes.
Dexter had different shoes that he could change into.
Because they're going to be looking for the same symbol on the bottom of your foot.
One of the things that's actually suggested, if you're a hiker, an avid hiker, before you go hiking, you leave your shoe print for people, if you got lost, for them to be able
to know what was the pattern of your shoe, right? So they're going to be following you based on your
shoe print pattern. So if you can change your shoes into a different pattern you can really throw
them off at least for a little bit water always good you know to be able to hit a walk hit a water
resource and then they don't know where you came out along the way that kind of thing any suggestions
i'd love to hear them because i'm very much into that kind of thing i just am it's pretty cool
and that and you know i do like to hike a lot so it was important for me to be able to realize like
if you want people to be able to find you then you don't want to be leaving no line in the woods
when you're walking through right you want to clearly mark a path as you're going already and then so they pop out in a wine cellar
you gotta grab a couple bottles on the way out i'm just saying gotta do what you gotta do
it's a good situation you gotta have some alcohol not too much alcohol though oh my gosh never a good idea
when you have to be like doing something serious i played airsoft one time after a little too much
alcohol how'd that work out it was a lot of welts did you have a lot of welts oh man it was the
worst idea ever i'm usually so patient and i had a hard work week at martial arts my legs were toast
shit and i had a hard work week at martial arts my legs were toast had some liquid courage going yeah yeah i got shot a lot so wouldn't suggest that um coastline after any kind of catastrophic
event that happens on the coast is going to be a mess the coastlines store stuff and a lot of people live there so uh we talk about it with flooding
and whatnot but any kind of i i wouldn't be on a coastline with any kind of disaster i hit
let alone like being able to eat from it no way um radiation chemicals everything is stored there it's all going to be slurried up
gasoline from boats and cars and i would not suggest eating anything from that area
for a while they're even saying that about like the gulf shrimp because of the uh deep horizon oil
that happened oh well they get rid of the oil spill right that happened? Mm-hmm.
Yeah.
Well, they get rid of the oil spill, right?
Oh, they just magically get rid of the oil.
Well, how do they do that?
They put a chemical on it that just sinks it to the bottom.
Well, where do the shrimp feed?
They feed at the bottom.
So now you have all these shrimp eating basically petrol that went to the ground,
and then you're ingesting the shrimp which could be
contaminated with uh gasoline so yeah good times we do some great things for our planet you know all righty well we're gonna do changing earth news i've got a rock and roll wow we're
already an hour in so let me play the one that gave three pages of notes to get ready for today.
There was so much good stuff in this episode.
That's why we had to go back.
I was like, oh, gosh, we got to go back.
Oh, my goodness.
I saw that come through.
I was like, holy.
Is this for the season or just today?
That is just today.
That's why we had to go in super speed over the mall.
If you guys want more info, head on over to the blog,
and I'll link through to all kinds of stuff you can learn about.

This is Changing Earth News.
All right, Changing Earth News.
This is December 1st, 2024, and we're going to be in rapid motion today.
Luckily, the Earth was actually pretty calm.
Now, the people in northeastern part of the United States are going to be like, what?
And the people over in India, they just had a cyclone come through.
They're going to be like, what?
But those were really our big events this week.
Solar is calm.
We're watching a few active spots for CME activity right now.
They're popping a little bit, making a little noise, but nothing major.
It's just eyes on.
And over the past week, it was mostly quiet as well.
We only had one little pop in geomagnetic storm.
And the last big event that happened from the Earth, the Earth actually shield it pretty well which was impressive so we're doing pretty good on the 25th of November we had 387 earthquakes
that were 2.0 or bigger the biggest of which was a 5.2 earthquake in Chichijima Island Japan
Storm Burt was still impacting the UK with flooding they don't see a lot of flooding
from that event also a lot of wind from that event heavy rain uh damage and wind damaged the
tents in gaza they took a lot of hits there from that big wind wind and storm event and the north
uh western united states was being impacted by that bomb cyclone washington saw a lot of wind damage
from that storm as it came through november 26 of 2024 there was 446 earthquakes that were 2.0 or
bigger biggest of which was a 6.1 in the japan sea you know japan's built for earthquakes that's
that's what they are used to so um nobody reported dead that I saw from that incident.
Not too much damage with that 6.1, which is pretty serious.
Didn't see a big tsunami came off of it or anything like that.
There was a big earthquake swarm in the southern San Andreas Fault.
So we still have eyes on in California. Like I say, I have no explanation for why the
ring of fire around the Pacific is so actively lit up and California and the West coast of the
United States seems to be locked in, not really doing a whole bunch. So it's either locked in
anticipating a big event or those little events that we're having, the swarming, these little
outlets are allowing
that energy to disperse without a major event. So hopefully it's the latter. November 27th of 2024,
there was 382 earthquakes that were 2.0 or bigger, biggest of which was a 5.7 in Gisborne,
New Zealand. Tornadoes struck in South Africa, Ron Font fontaine and a snowstorm hit the colorado mountains
november 28th of 2024 there was 365 earthquakes that were 2.0 or bigger biggest of which was a
5.1 in badakistan afghanistan there was a 5.7 earthquake in tarlac philippines they do have
eyes on the philippine trench right now it's been really
really noisy they're thinking there might be a bigger earthquake coming so if you are in the
philippines of course you guys have to be into disaster preparedness by this point because it's
been a wild ride for you this year but i would definitely stay ready for an event like that
and south korea at least four people unfortunately lost their lives in the heaviest
snowfall on record in November, heaviest snowfall in 100 years for South Korea. So we're seeing
another record breaking another, you know, 100 year event, 1000 year event, these just keep coming
at us. And as we turn into winter in the Northern Hemisphere,
we're going to see these flooding, these rain events turn into these massive snow events.
So that's what we saw in South Korea. In Sri Lanka, four children unfortunately lost their
lives as heavy rains came down that triggered massive flooding there. On November 29th, 2024,
flooding there on november 29th 2024 there was 376 earthquakes or 2.0 or bigger biggest of which was a 4.8 in the eastern mediterranean that's really all i have for that day the the drought
in africa was up on topic so they were talking about the maggot farming but uh that's that's
really all that was going on that day just farming some maggots. November 30th of 2024, I'm sure there was more going on, but just not a big hit day.
November 30th, 2024, there was 371 earthquakes that were 2.0 or bigger,
biggest of which was a 5.7 in the East China Sea near Japan.
There was a 4.0 earthquake that happened under Mauna Loa volcano.
there was a 4.0 earthquake that happened on her monoloa volcano um cyclone fengal caused heavy rainfall in tamil nadu india three people unfortunately died of electrocution they have
a really interesting electrical system in india if you've never seen pictures of it you should
check it out because it's wild. And electricity and flooding never mixes.
That's why I'm always like, hey, heads up on the electrical if you have any kind of flooding going on.
Sydney, Australia, they got their first storm of the summer.
It absolutely smashed into Sydney with wind and flooding in the area.
Big storm.
They've just had it over and over and over again.
So we have to keep eyes on
what's going on with that major lake effect snowstorm hits pennsylvania new york 30 inches
of snow a thousand plus people stranded in new york the great lakes were impacted ontario ohio
so big storm up in the midwest and th and Malaysia, thousands of people have, tens of thousands of people have been displaced by massive flooding.
Nine people have lost their lives in that event.
And the same thing is going on over there.
Just massive rain after massive rain.
There's just nowhere for it to go yet.
So 12-1, I don't really have a whole lot to report. The earthquake center
hadn't even updated their website to include December 1st. So we will just bring you December
1st next week. As far as volcanoes go, we have 37 actively erupting volcanoes. We have 32 showing
minor activity. We have 26 showing unrest. So we're still at 95, but that is finally down one volcano for this year.
So we were kind of peaked out at 96 last week, but we have lost one down to 95 this week.
As far as wildfires in the United States go, we're at a preparedness level of one.
We have five new large
fires. Four of them are contained for a total of 7,783 acres burning. Number one on the list was
New York with one new fire, one fire total, total of 5,304 acres. I'm sure that snow is going to help put that fire out and then second on the list was
massachusetts with two new fires four fires total a total of 2479 acres and that storm is hitting
them as well so all we can do is pray that all those fires will be put out by that weather that's
coming in so everything happens for a reason i guess
all righty guys that's all i got for you today remember you want to pick up the changing earth
series great deal on them right now get them while they last uh changing earth series.com
