Starting point is 00:00:00 BPN family, it's time For the reference tip on the day Hello everyone out there in Internet Radio Land This is a Dave Jones, the NBC guy And I have another tip for you Decrease your dependency on electricity I know it seems like a no-brainer But really examine
Starting point is 00:00:25 What is essential what must function no matter what and determine that everything else is secondary. And when you do that, you'll have a good idea of how much electricity you need to produce at any one time. So then it becomes easier to judge if a solar operation is going to be,
Starting point is 00:00:53 or a generator, gas generator, propane generator, multi-fuel generator is going to fit your needs. Okay? And I'm not talking, you know, here at the Jones homestead, we have three refrigerators, five freezers.
Starting point is 00:01:11 Those are not essential. If everything goes to crap, we'll let that food thaw out, smoke it, can it, cook it. They are just convenient right now. But if the power goes out, you need things like lighting for security, detection devices, communication devices, rechargeable batteries.
Starting point is 00:01:45 And when you get down to the basic level, as a matter of fact, my water heater isn't even electric. The water pump is, but the water heater, is on-demand propane. So whereas I need to have enough electricity for my water pump to operate, I also have a hand pump that I haven't put in yet, but I'm going to put it in.
Starting point is 00:02:14 We also have several sources of water here on the mountain. So when I get tired enough of hauling water, I will put the hand pump in, my well. So there you go, PBM family. My tip is to find out what is really essential. What do you really need to power? And then everything else is secondary. Take care and prep on.
