Gosh.
Evening gentlemen.
How are we doing?
Doing great.
We got a serious class of individuals with us tonight, folks.
Ryan,
freaking Beaufort of the next generation fame in the Rising Republic is with us tonight.
Dave Jones,
the NBC guy.
And that goofy guy who's always here, the intrepid commander.
So 81.1 million people will be traveling through the holidays on an average of 50 miles or more from home between Tuesday, November 25th, and Monday, December 1st.
That is some serious travel considering that our subsidized airlines are going through all kinds of hell.
And that's why I thought we'd gather tonight to talk, sort of travel prep stories, travel to prep gear, that kind of stuff that, you know, we all do it.
And over the years, I'm sure you've picked up some tips and tricks that are worth sharing with the poor people who are going to be traveling great lengths.
Do you guys travel?
Oh, I know you ain't going nowhere for dinner.
No, no, no, not this one and probably not ever.
I used to travel a lot.
You know, when I had a sponsor and stuff like that, we traveled everywhere.
I just met for the Thanksgiving holiday.
No, I'm traveling upstairs.
Well, not all the way upstairs.
What about you, Ryan?
Do you visit people?
I do.
I kind of ebop around here and there.
We usually will host a big event here.
We did last year.
So this year we're kind of keeping it low-key and might have a couple of people over.
but you know keeping it keeping it local not not extending out too far the weather's so unpredictable
here that you know you can get caught up or bound up somewhere and get stuck for a couple of days
longer than you got family over longer or you're stuck with family longer either point is colin bringing
the pack of cubs over yet or no we're too far along not yet we're uh he's uh he's he's not
We're not sure what he's got going on this year.
He may or may not travel up north.
So he might have some traveling.
It's about that age, right?
It is about my niece is also not traveling.
She's staying put where she is up there around Philly.
She's probably around.
How old is Colin now?
That'd be 21 this year.
Mark?
Wow.
Oh, he definitely.
Do you believe that?
No.
I don't believe anything.
Oh, gosh.
That is greater a conspiracy than JFK, if you had to.
How would that happen?
Holland is 21.
years old that's insane yeah just yesterday he was like collins prepper tip of the week 13 14
whatever he was voice cracking on the air yeah that voice deepened and then i knew we were we were done
for we're finished and we don't travel we do uh we do thanksgiving year every year
whoever comes comes whoever doesn't missing out you know but it's a good time
But we did for years.
I mean, we traveled the holidays that Christmas is in, the Thanksgivings with the little kids and the babies even.
And, you know, if I could give one tip right off the top, anybody particularly who's traveling, no matter how you're traveling, but if you're traveling via a vehicle, like wake up at three, pack everybody in the car, whoever wakes up, wakes up, whoever doesn't, doesn't.
And I mean, the time that you get between 3.34 o'clock and whenever people wake up and start driving is just melted gold.
Yeah. We had a four hour ride so we would get to Philly at eight. And things were just starting to wake up. You know, you maybe hit a little traffic in Delaware, maybe. But for the most part, it was, you know. And we would tell people to do it. And they would be like, oh, I'm not waking up that early. And they would drive down.
And their four-hour ride, we become a six-hour ride, we'd become an eight-hour ride,
it'd be in D.C. stuck, you know what I mean?
I mean, that always has worked for us as a great way to fly, you know, nice and early.
And, you know, we fly early, too.
We look for those early flights.
It's a pain, but, I mean, not for us, really.
We're early birds anyway, but early travel is the way.
You guys, night travel at all?
I've done some night travels.
Oh, yeah.
Oh, yeah.
I've flown the red eye.
When I was in the Army, I used, because I didn't have kids back then, I used to go home for Thanksgiving, and then I'd stay in the unit for Christmas and New Year's because that's when most people with kids would travel.
Yeah.
So I went home for Thanksgiving.
Thanksgiving was my big travel home day.
Yeah.
We're waiting for Dave in PA.
Yep.
Yep.
So I drove and at night, yes, man, nothing out there but truckers.
It's nice.
It's nice.
It's roadworking now, at least on the I-95 corridor.
I don't know where else.
Oh, yeah, that's always been.
Especially if you do summertime night travel.
Summertime night travel can be as bad as midday travel.
In fact, one of the only times I've ever been stopped completely in traffic and, like, you know, shut your engine off was at night.
Oh.
Yeah, it was a night.
I traveled back from PA down south.
Hey, you remember a few years back on 95 when they had that big.
Oh, ice storm?
Yeah, and Tesla's were like running out of battery.
Yeah, oh, yeah.
People were there for the 18, 24 hours or something like that.
Overnight, it was cold.
Yeah.
That was crazy.
That was an event.
That changed some people's perspectives on what they put in a vehicle to travel, I'm sure.
Yeah.
in the winter time no doubt about it well especially those electric cars i mean the heater don't
run unless you have battery yeah i don't know and i've never i still not i don't even know if i've
driven in one yet oh alex the first thing he did was buy a tesla so he oh you know he he didn't
ask us or anything of course we would have said whoa whoa whoa you just got the job yeah and a tesla you
can't find something else.
Nope.
He got him a Tesla.
I mean, it's nice, but
you know, it has all those
limitations.
Definitely.
Yeah.
Yeah, it drives
itself, but I've never been
that lazy to have a car drive itself.
My cars
always drive themselves, so I don't know.
They might as well.
They might as well when I'm behind
the wheel but so our our idea of travel ryan is like very different than your idea of travel
because i can get pretty far within four hours and i think that as far as i know that's kind of like
laughable in your neck of the woods right yeah i mean six six and a half hours isn't is not
unreasonable at all to get you know four or five six hundred miles yeah so
I mean, depending on how fast you're going and what roads you're taking.
But, I mean, like, there's parts of Montana that don't have, they have a speed limit, but it's not really enforced.
And, you know, you got 85 mile an hour highways down by Boise.
Yeah.
Which there's, it's awesome, but it's flat.
And the weather is always fairly decent.
So you're really not, you know, you're not risking much.
And people fly.
So.
And there's not.
at least where I am in regions of like California and any of the major cities it's just as bad
you know but as far as covering covering territory yeah we can and that you got to watch that too
because sometimes if you're 30 40 miles between towns you got to pay attention to where you're
getting fuel what happens if you break down how far you are out from somewhere else you know
and some of these stretches of highway there's
nothing and you're either you're hoping that a that a good samaritans willing to pick you up but
in the middle of nowhere nowadays yeah yeah and if you're if you're traveling at night
oh boy it's going to be a long time do you see somebody yeah so i mean that is one one thing
that uh that i do have a bit of a concern about when traveling you know at night or long distance
anymore because I mean I can hike I can do it but getting out of a car in the middle of
winter or blizzard you're probably better off to just stay in the car and yeah and call for
help or see if you can get someone to show up for you it's a lot better now in this stage
of my life than when I was you know in college yeah yeah so have a good vehicle
keep it well maintained and keep a sleeping bag in your vehicle god just nothing else just throw in the
trump yeah i had uh i pulled one of these bivis sacks out on the air the other day to tell people
even if you don't want to put you know sleeping bag or a blanket you know those things they break down
i told you i'd never put the thing back in the container it was a sacrifice for the audience
but yeah you know they packed down to like nothing and you know stay warm in those things
Those things are, I mean, I think they're almost dangerous, to be honest with you.
Yeah, almost too warm.
Yeah, exactly.
Colin and I, we've used those camping before, and he's like, neither of us, because we just wake up in a puddle of sweat.
Exactly.
And that's almost worse.
Right.
Yeah.
Yeah.
They work to a detriment, for sure.
What other things you guys store in the vehicle?
I could keep the road atlas in the vehicle.
Yeah.
You know, for that whole thing.
And I need that more now than ever because I can't quite figure out how to make my phone work the way a GPS on the phone is supposed to work all the time.
Navigating the ghost phone can get interesting.
But, yeah, I feel like with the maps, you're good, you know.
One thing I do keep in mind is, I mean, I've got a little, just a little pack, something small enough for me to throw over my shoulder in case I need to travel.
And I do put marine rations in it.
Oh, cool.
Yeah, that's a good idea.
A block of vacuum-sealed protein and-high-calories.
Like the May Day bar type thing?
Yeah.
Yeah.
I mean, it's a block.
It's about the size of a couple decks of cards,
and you can break them off and eat small chunks of it and get by.
I mean, it's more for a potential long-term stint in a vehicle,
just to tide you over and keep you dialed in.
I had a couple of airplane bottles is always nice to have.
So you got to see an air come.
There you go.
Yeah, those little things, man.
I didn't really appreciate the little meals and the little drinks as much until we did
some of these different prepper challenges.
And they really change your, they really change your morale.
You know what I mean?
Yeah.
It's a huge deal.
for morale you know not that you can't like just push through it but it's just i don't know there's
something about that little that little drink or that little bit of food yeah yeah i do keep a pair of
brass knuckles in mine too yeah which i mean i guess if i got pulled over you know if they really
went that deep into my gear then i could potentially get in trouble but it's not like are they
still a problem brass knuckles i remember like some place they were
yeah some places yeah because they're considered uh you know they're used for one thing
yeah and and they they assume it's nefarious yeah oh i see i see so having them raise a suspicion
type of thing yeah so uh i keep these am i supposed to put my hand there that work we could
see them i i keep you know i think since the kids were little we we kept these and these are
I don't keep the plastic ones because they'll melt.
But these are titanium and I think I have a stainless steel set.
And in the glove box, because you never know when you're going to get, you know, pull over and get some sushi or something.
And you don't want the plastic ones.
And this comes in handy for all kinds of things.
And then a little P38 can opener.
Of course.
so that's just so that was silverware for the listening audience
was fork knife and spoon yeah titanium or stainless steel
and then you wrap them up and you know clean them wrap them up in plastic so they
don't get all grubby and just throw them in your glove box
yeah it's a good idea it's good idea to have on the go for sure yeah I mean we do
the of course we do the get-home bag and the
trauma-ish kit on the headrest jot number we do that that the trauma-ish kit is just something
that I build you know what I mean it's not like a pre-built and I can't bring myself to buy
pre-made trauma kits because they're like 300 bucks yeah either of you have this kind of problem
but like I feel like the good trauma kits are like two 300 bucks and I'm just like I don't know
if I can do that yeah I don't know I don't know if I can do
that that's so much money i mean i know it's probably really good high quality stuff but at the same
time yeah kind of build it out right so if you know a little bit about a little bit but first aid
on the road's huge that's huge yeah that's one of those things you better have just one of those
things we've rarely used i don't know about you guys if you ever cracked open the first aid kit
on the road in route somewhere just for cuts and stuff you know i'll tell you it was good
Nothing like blood squirting.
Yeah.
What's good is I keep a bag, a Ziploc bag of ibuprofen combined with Alka-Seltzer.
Yeah.
And I used to joke about it.
My wife gets heartburned.
And I used to joke about it because I started doing that like five years ago.
And I was like, man, honey, we look old.
Like this is old people granola right here.
Yeah.
You know what I mean?
That's right.
Now it's, now it's one of those things that I'm like, yeah, you got to have it.
You know, just driving.
Yeah, it's one of those things.
Can I tell you an Alka Souser joke?
Yeah, definitely.
Of course.
Of course.
So my first wife was diabetic.
And I said, look, if I ever get pulled over for speeding by a cop, I'm going to have
an Alka Susser tape to the dashboard.
I'm just going to snatch it off, throw it in your mouth.
And you go, oh.
And I'll say it.
I got to get to the hospital.
She's going into shock.
Jesus.
Jesus.
I know.
That's terrible.
It depends on the cop, right?
Depends on the cop.
He might say, hang on him and let me run your.
Yeah.
Yeah.
No, I actually pulled a car over one time with a guy.
His wife was pregnant.
He busts through the one and only stop sign we had in this town.
And I chase him for like a quarter of a mile.
Finally, he pulls over and jumps out doing this.
I'm calling in.
I said, I don't know what's wrong with this guy.
He's jumping out of his car.
So I run up to the car.
He says, my wife's having a baby.
And I look in the car and she is.
No, no.
And just between the console and everything, her legs are up in the air.
And I said, I said, you go to the next town.
I'll call the ambulance.
They'll be waiting for you when you get on the expressway.
And I did that.
Okay.
she had the baby in the ambulance going up 83 yeah and uh and i often thought man if i would have put
them in a patrol car they would have named the baby after me yeah maybe but but no way no i didn't
want that mess i didn't know no no literally more figuratively yeah that's like one of the biggest
ones that people get a taste of of packing a legitimate bag for yeah like yeah that that birth
bag is like maybe first go at the bug out you know what i yeah we need to check that baby bag that
birth bag again man i said if that guy if they're faking it they're doing a heck of a job because she
oh my gosh i i didn't even want to see what was going to happen next and uh i called they they put her in
ambulance and she didn't get to the hospital before she had the kid so yeah yeah that's a good one
quick quick i even hear horror stories about births 12 hours 13 hours two days what in the world
yeah i mean i guess it takes what it takes i don't know i don't know anything about it i got no
idea what the poor ladies go through well joan rivers used to say just imagine
taking your lower lip and stretching it over your head.
It is amazing.
It is amazing.
Yeah, you know, that's a good thing.
That's definitely a good tip is, you know,
packing for the people in the car.
That's kind of what that little old people granola is all about, right?
Or the middle-aged granola, you could really call it, actually.
It doesn't even have to be an old thing.
But having that Alka-Seltzer and that,
ibuprofen things like that you know who's in the car you know what they're going to need
yeah you know yeah you know what types of things entertainment you know food is always huge right
because it's everybody gets cranky oh you have snacks for sure yeah you get that whole i don't
know if you guys get that like whole family crank when you're out and about and everybody's
hungry yeah i just like dogs snapping at each other the whole ride i open i open
Open up beef jerky, throw it in the back seat.
Yep.
It's like a flash bag.
Like a grenade, yeah.
Get it.
Yeah, there you go.
Yeah, that's a good move.
That's a good move.
So, Ryan, you do the across the country, no check bag annual test.
You know what I mean?
Every year when you come to Prepper Camp, you come with what's in your pockets and on your back.
And I don't think I've checked a bag.
since 2003 or 2004.
Wow.
Anytime I fly, it's always whatever I can pack on me.
And the way I look at it is if there is something bad enough that I need on the ground,
I may as well just have a little bit of extra cash and get it while I'm there because losing an entire bag or not having a bag on hand is as a result of someone else's stupidity completely out of your control.
it's to me it's not it's not worth it and I I could tell you a story when I went when I was in college either freshman or it's probably freshman year I was part of a journalism class we had a spring break trip plan to New York because we were going to go see the New York Times newsroom and we had it all set up and everything everybody had to figure out their own flights and a couple of us agreed to go with a chief
option and get like a small group rate that had a few more connecting flights so uh we wound up flying
into denver and that's as far as we got oh so mind you this is spring break we're thinking great
weather no problem should have an issue maybe some rain that year uh the denver international
airport got about three or four feet of snow overnight wow dang and you weren't going for us
Yeah, us being mostly college kids wound up saying firsthand how fast things can deteriorate over, you know, in an airport.
You know, we landed and people were making phone calls, making hotel reservations and talking.
And we're like, well, whatever, we're just going to wait for our next flight to leave.
No big deal.
Next thing you know, it was just like a movie.
We started saying all these cancellations on the screen.
Yeah.
And none of us with the exact.
of one or two had our check bags with us we couldn't get on the plane so we couldn't retrieve
any of our baggage and um i remember people going crazy for the last bit of food that was available
at the the fast food places to end to the point where we were raiding fast like um vending machines
and we were getting on to the planes that were docked to be able to
scavenge whatever food we could get off of them so you're talking what yeah yeah and this was in a
matter of 24 to 36 hours by the fourth day nobody had showered we had barely eaten and we finally
had some opportunities to get out um because taxi cabs were finally starting to get to us but they were
scalping us at the gate so oh you know we were forced three or four people into a taxi cab and
and doing everything we could
to scavenge up enough cash
to make it valuable
because if we didn't have it
someone else would and they would get out
and they would take the cabin
you know
and then we'd be
there until who knows when right
so anyways
long story sort
I have never flown with a check bag
since then
that is a wild
apocalypse at the airport
yeah yeah 36 hours
and it was
it was striking to me to see how
fast things devolved um and i mean you're you're kind of stuck there well so i've always made sure
to have several things on me whenever i am traveling on a plane and that's food some sort of container
for water and um plenty of cash and something that i could potentially use as a weapon especially
something that I could wear like a leather belt or um you know that's underrated weapon right
oh yeah oh yeah yeah it's an underrated weapon and uh you know some things you can't have but i mean
things now are they they're a lot harder than they were prior to 2000 you know 25 years ago
you could carry a gun you can carry a knife lighters all that kind of stuff
So what I generally will carry with me in that regard is at least a lighter than a utility knife without the blade.
Sometimes you'll get it taken, sometimes not.
So just something that you could potentially lose if you had to, but nothing valuable.
Don't take anything you could get confiscated.
Is the idea with the utility knife just by razor blades when you get on the ground?
That's a good idea.
But if you are stuck in an airport or something,
something like that, it's easy enough to get your hands on one.
Yeah.
Now you've got to cut the tool that quick.
That's a good idea.
That's a good idea.
Yeah, the airport is an interesting spot.
You know, it's that sort of everybody's stuck, captured together, trying to get along.
Kids are going crazy.
And very limited.
Yeah, very limited, right.
sleep is horrible you have nothing to do after about the first four or five hours yeah oh yeah yeah when we
went to you know what it was it was prepper con 2018 you were there dave jones we we chatted it up
for a little bit yeah yeah yeah i had a revelation there about the check bag thing i i have
checked bags a lot especially going to florida um only to bring a
gun really that's the whole motivation this year i didn't my wife talked me out of it but i didn't
bring a gun to florida um which was weird it was a very weird feeling but anyway one of the things
that in 2018 the conclusion that i came to was you know i'm in utah we got like four thousand
miles or something to get home i don't remember what it was but it was yeah many and i realized
like walking to the convention center where the show was i was passing this used car dealership
with glass windows in it every day.
And I started thinking, like,
if it gets to the point where I need an AR-15 to get home,
like, I'm not even going to care about that
before I rob this place and get a car.
You know what I mean?
And then when I started thinking about it that way,
which is way out of the ordinary for me,
you start to realize, like,
you're going to do crazy stuff en route,
probably way crazier than anything you're going to be able to,
like, you're going to need more than anything,
anything you're going to be able to check in order to mitigate a serious problem like that like
in other words like a we're pulling firearms out type of problem yeah right so you know that that may
have been the checking of the gun was most certainly uh i still love it but it's definitely a little bit
of a binky it has binkie aspects you know what i mean it's definitely like i know it's right there
she's right there she's just over there in the safe and i could sleep good here
but you know the reality is yeah there's going to be a lot of crazy things going on well in air travel
alone when checking bags is so much slower and for me to be able to walk off the plane and get
out to the front door to for me that's valuable because i i can be mobile and yeah um it really
does test some things you know like can you can you get to point a and be front of
from point A to point B with the gear on your back,
and can you get by for a couple of days, you know, at least.
I think it's viable, especially,
I think it's pertinent to right now because you don't know what the flights are going to be like.
Yeah.
You know, we're talking about flying to prepper shows and all that kind of stuff,
but like if you're flying for Thanksgiving,
things got weird for us when,
and that was months ago or a month ago when we flew to Florida.
Things got all jumbled.
And to your point, that's the worst thing in the world, right?
You get off the plane and you think, well, we've got a 30-minute, 40-minute layover, so we've got time to go pick the bag up.
And then you get off and look up and go, oh, our flight got delayed or our flight got moved forward or something got bumped around.
And now we've got to get right here.
Or, you know, if you're flying to a big airport, that's the worst.
They move your flight.
You think you're coming right out and going, you know, over to the next terminal.
Then you've got to run over 16 terminals over in Atlanta.
Yeah.
Yeah, to your point, you cut out that.
let's all stand around and look each other until they turn the turn style on and then we wait to see if our bag made it or not in a year like this where they're just getting the training wheels back off i guess probably a great idea you know for check bag if you don't have to and you know again you're traveling for holidays so you're traveling with two family or something like that so they probably got the things that you need waiting for you know or yeah something along those lines well yeah and
you went to PrepperCon, I mean, if you needed stuff, that was the place you could get anything
you need.
That's true, too, right?
Yeah.
Hey, well, you want to talk about some of this stuff that I got?
There's changes coming in 2026.
Yeah, yeah, that's a good idea.
Let's talk about that.
Well, they're doing a whole lot more bio recognition, facial recognition, scanning, and the airlines now.
are going to give you your boarding pass with facial recognition.
So you're going to identify yourself and they're going to store, yeah, I know.
You will have an option for a while to not do that and to go stand in the line to get your boarding pass.
Man.
Okay.
So what was the point of the real ID?
Well, I guess they're going to link your real ID with that.
I went through hell for the real ID, Dave Jones.
I had to get it to fly the Florida.
To fly within the United States, I had to get this stupid ID.
And here's the punchline.
I never got it.
I went to get it.
I brought my birth certificate with my little feet and my little hands on it,
like the little prince.
And I give it to the guy at the DMV.
And he's like, now you got to get the one from the state.
And I'm like, what?
It's got me.
like there's literally my fingerprints
now you got to get the one from the state
okay so I walked
I weighed through the illegal aliens
to get out of the DMV
and whatever the hell they want
and then I come back
and my wife's like and I'm terrible
like I don't know how my wife deals
with me because I'm the type of guy that's like
I should go get the real ID today
it's like a month out
and then before you know it's like I should go get the real ID
we got like five days
you know that
Because I hate the DMB
And so I go there and get it
Everything goes fine
Whatever you know I had to spend the money
So once you spend the money
You get what you need you know how that goes
And they're like okay
It'll be there in a few days
It never comes
I call the airport
I'm like I don't have a real ID
But I got to fly to Florida tomorrow
So I don't know how that's going to work
But it has to work
Yeah
And they're like oh that's okay
Just bring some bills
And your ID and your social security card
wow and i'm like what why did i have to get the real ID the best part is i get there i show
my ID right yeah and they're like do you have your real ID i was like no i didn't get didn't come in time
i got the form that says i got it they hand me a slip of paper it's a little square red square
and it says no real ID and i go through that's it that was it wow that was it wow that was
They, Jay, they, what did they check on me?
I got a little extra, a little extra pat down.
We got a little extra fun, yeah.
Yeah.
What was weird?
It was like a powder thing.
Oh, okay.
They checked your explosives.
I think that's what it was.
It was a lady with rubber gloves and some powder.
Well, I got my real ID.
I think it was when Biden was in.
And what I didn't like about it was they stamp right on it, veteran.
Why don't you like that?
I have no idea why they do that.
But now I'm like, I'm like, okay, now I have no choice but to identify myself as a veteran.
Yeah.
Yeah, I don't have.
You guys up.
Yeah.
For our next tour.
I have a real ID.
But what I do have is a passport.
Yeah, that works too.
passport card is an extra 10 bucks or whatever and that'll do the same thing and it's almost preferred
I think because then it doesn't I personally like that traveling better with that than my driver's
license yeah that makes sense well I got my real ID now it was waiting for me when I got back for
the trip in the mailbox so that was perfect well look honey here it is down here they're saying
that the passport now is going to be there will be a digital version
that you can have on your phone.
So between your facial recognition
and the encrypted crap on your phone,
you won't have to have an actual physical passport.
But then what happens if you break your phone
or drop it in the, you know, the Nile
or whatever you're traveling to?
Toilet.
Yeah, then you're really screwed.
So they also said that they're going to start
scanning bags with a 3D digital scanner which will allow people not to take their laptops out
and all that other stuff that you do now they're able to see through your bag and and take
each individual thing on the scanner and look at it turn it around all that kind of stuff like
3D imaging yeah then they'll have AI decide whether or not it's a bomb or not yeah
And also, they said, be aware that almost all the airlines are planning to add, like, fuel charges.
Oh, like surcharge?
Yes, like, you know, a green charge.
You have to, you know, offset your carbon footprint by paying more for your fuel.
Yeah.
Yeah.
What they mean by green is more dollars.
More dollars out of your pocket.
That always offset pollution for some reason.
And then along with that, they said there'll be no more using the overhead bins, okay, for free.
If anything goes up there, if anything goes up there, they're going to charge you.
So the only place you got for free is what goes under your seat.
Yeah.
This is all.
yeah but the answer is drive wherever you go yeah that could be that could be or maybe the uh do you guys
hear that probably i heard something no no no no i was like coming through my headphones i got
like these kid headphones on because my son broke my other headphones no i just came in a room
and he was watching something on my computer like oh no oh no no no like a little
I was like, man, they good?
But anyway, I don't ever, you know,
I don't think that TSA really is that big of a pain.
I don't remember it really very much,
but when I go through TSA, I'm never like,
I don't know, there are things that get my like inner patriot boiling.
Yeah.
And maybe TSA should be, but whenever I go through it,
I'm always just like, maybe I'm just because I'm elated.
You know what I mean?
I'm like, all right, that's over now.
Let's get to the next.
now we just have to manage the kids and the wife and get on to the you know so I don't know but yeah I mean I always I always took it as a challenge you know to see if I could get through there with the wife and the kids and you know everybody grabbed the stuff don't lose anything you know I've left stuff and at I they've lost my check bags a bunch but only actually disappeared one time one time one
one time i never got it back and then you have to list all the stuff that you had in that bag
and i think this was one of the trips coming back from romania uh yeah we lost our bags going to
romania oh which it was just a long delay eventually yeah they got them to where we were
supposed to be and went and then we had to go pick them up and that was another thing the guy says
well can you identify what's in your bag like stuff right my clothes yeah yeah
my my wife trust since she travels for work she got and i don't know what it takes to get
this i never asked her she just got it it's called tsa pre-check yeah and for some reason
and this is probably terrible i don't know how this works but for some
reason i got it when my kids were little yeah they just go through with her i can't go through
with her no they can go right through with her and when they were like you know four and eight it didn't
seem like that big a deal but now my son's big as me yeah and i see him walking through the tsa pre-check
and i'm like i mean he can blow something up too yeah yeah you know what i mean he does back home
yeah yeah exactly exactly yeah so they're always waiting for me
me they're always standing there waiting on me yeah i got that before i retired i got that and
after i paid for it uh they said oh because you work for department of homeland security you get
it for free i'm like what now you tell me yeah right you know great excellent yeah that's i always
caught up in security my wife says i look guilty apparently i have that air about me you have that
An air of guilt from Ryan Buford, I don't get it at all.
I don't get it either.
I don't get an air of guilt from Ryan.
You look different when you go through security.
I do.
Oh, well, maybe around authority.
You know, I could definitely see you having a problem with authority for sure.
So maybe your proximity to authority changes the look of you.
Probably.
Maybe you go in.
Give me the dark hair.
So we're flying back from Romania.
and we actually flew Russia, Russia's airline.
So we went into Moscow, okay?
And we're at the Moscow airport coming back.
And they pulled Maria for extra screening.
And Deanna, she's not very big then.
I think she was like 12 or 13.
She looks up and says, Mom, what did you do?
Oh, God.
and she says i didn't do anything well then they try and tell me and the kids to go and get on the
plane and i said no i'm not leaving my wife here in moscow you know i'm not getting on
the plane until she comes with it was crazy go get on the plane she'll be fine here in the
she'll be fine yeah yes she the romanian woman yeah right that's it that they smelled it on her
she's from here
oh man
where we
Amsterdam
we come back
one time
through Amsterdam
and I don't know
what they were doing
they were checking people
they said randomly
and then they start
checking the kids
you know like swabbing their fingers
and for bombs and stuff
and I'm like
oh
yeah
they did check my kids
you know what they did
on our way back out of Orlando
they he had one of these
neck pillows was it the neck pillow
or was it a stuffed animal what was it
I think it was the neck pillow
and they checked
that that in the vial with
the little liquid to check and see if
it was uh
zoomed out zoom back in to check to see
if it was like drugs in it
wow I want to zoom back in
there we go yeah it was
it was wild
that was like look at this
nonsense this is crazy yeah random i guess it's random maybe it truly is random who makes the decision
of random though i don't know do they do they flip a switch does is it a random time a random flight
a random you know i don't know yeah it's hard to pick at pick at choose at random right but they
that trip right there they screen so many people it couldn't have been random i mean they screened
like freaking half the flight maybe they got a tip or something on somebody that's what i'm thinking yeah
random is like one every 10 something like that okay one every 10 this was half the people there was a
just a mound of people waiting to get swabbed and they did the kids too yeah yeah yeah that's
like the russian tsa then or no this this was coming back through amsterdam russia
In Russia, all they did was pull Maria aside.
I guess her name came up or something.
Oh.
And they had to check her more.
But Deanna, what did you do, Mom?
Yeah.
Mom's up to no good.
Yeah.
Little darling.
That was funny.
Well, let's see, tips, tricks, and techniques.
Yeah.
If you have an old cell phone, you know, throw that in your bug out bag because it can dial 911 if it's charged up.
Have charging cables and things.
Oh, that's a big one.
I mean, um, stop it, Dave Jones house.
He's got 50 different batteries.
Did boy let you borrow?
My man's in Costco battery hunting every time I turn around.
I just, energize it is then.
I just picked this baby up
Wait a minute
Can you focus on it?
Oh, cool.
I didn't even know they made them.
$49.
How do I focus this thing?
Yeah.
Background blur, so I don't know if it's going to.
Okay.
What focus is on my face?
You have to put it up next to my face?
Anyway, 49 bucks.
Yeah, that's cool.
That's cool.
Those are sweet, man.
Those little guys solve problems, you know?
They're not going to, you know.
What is it?
1,700 watts, it's pretty powerful.
It's a lot of watts.
1,700 is not bad for that little thing.
One thing that I like to carry it, like if you have a little juice pack or whatever,
try and get one of the ones that has built-in cables.
Oh, yeah.
Oh, yeah, yeah.
Extra stuff and, you know, you're at least a little bit better off.
Yeah, my wife got a couple of those this year.
Had like four different kinds of cables on the thing.
They should all be built like that.
Yeah.
That's genius.
Pretty handy.
Yeah, that's a great way to do it.
Especially with the kids, the older kids, and you're like, bring your charger, dude.
And they're like, well, I brought it halfway.
Yeah.
Halfway here.
I don't know where it was.
Yeah, that's a good one.
I'm in charge of that stuff.
And flashlights, the kids, no one brings a flashlight.
So I bring a flashlight for everybody.
and then wherever we go
I put it by their nightstand there
you know
I think I'm almost
completely headlamp
yeah
I've really lost my faith
in the flashlight
I mean we have good flashlights
but like I don't know
the efficiency of the headlamp
is so overwhelming
that I just I never hardly reach for one
I'm always like
headlamp let's go do
what we got to do
because then I don't have to even
even think because i'm the i'm this guy i'm the guy that like puts the thing down and then loses
it immediately yeah yeah what i mean that's me especially if i'm doing something else like if i'm
working on something and have a flashlight to be able to see it i'm going to put a flashlight down
and lose it so if i can strap it to this thing yeah i most likely won't lose this you never know
so the headlamp is key so one thing that i've started carrying is a more often than ever before
as a magnet.
So this is a belt clip magnet.
Oh,
yeah.
Kidex.
But I have,
I've been able to hold,
do you know what a post hole pounder is?
Oh,
yeah.
They're about 20 pounds.
I've been able to hold one of those on these on my way.
What?
You're talking about the thing you hold with two hands?
Yeah.
Chunk,
like,
wow.
Yeah.
That's impressive.
Where do you get that?
But with flashlights and any flashlight that I get.
has to have a magnet on it because if I'm doing something,
as long as I have something metal or something like this
that I can put on a different part of my body.
That's really cool.
Yeah, that is awesome.
It's been a huge, I mean, it's part of my EBC anymore.
It's weird to think of a magnet as something that could be used with power.
But, I mean, you don't have to have something like that.
Like, you can get just a real small,
um, uh, rare earth magnet or a pair of them.
Yeah.
I mean, around here, you know, the Jones homestead, I'm always with a tool and I can just slap that on there and have both hands to do something.
That's, that's great.
It's designed for firearms.
Oh, okay.
You put a firearm on that thing?
No, no cover on there.
I've seen those.
I've seen those before.
Yeah, that's why I wear cargo pants all the time.
You know, they put stuff in them.
throw everything in there yeah yeah yeah that's like yeah i like that that's sweet i wouldn't mind
having them things around the house either yeah i need one of those for the remote yeah tv remote
goes missing we have one of those couches i don't know if you guys like you ever get like through
the years you get the couch it just eats everything everything you sit on and it just eats everything
like your shirt comes off you don't even understand how that happens it eats everything i mean my son
it there for two seconds. I'm like, where's my phone? I'm like, you know where your phone is.
The couch ate it. Exactly where it is. Yeah, it's one of those. So, yeah, the remote,
that would be good. Something along those lines. That's cool, though. So you bought it as is,
Kidex with the mounted magnet? Yeah, it's a, the company's called Holstery, H-O-L-S-T-E-R-Y, I believe.
Holstery, okay. Good to know. And they're made here in the United States. It's, I mean, it's a great little
product they're probably 20, 30 bucks. My wife got it for me. And I have, I've used it ever
since. It's, it's an amazing tool. Yeah. That's important. Post, the post thing is
impressive. Yeah. Those things are not light. That's a deal. Yeah. Hey, so, uh, you should get
that and put it in the holiday catalog. Yeah. When's the catalog? Did you send it out?
Catalog is out. Catalog is out. I got to check my emails. It's beautiful. Matter of
fact, let me, let me, it generated the, we paid to have the, like a flip book, it's like a
flip book design.
I saw that.
That's pretty cool.
So that instead of scrolling through like a PDF, it's like kind of as close to a magazine
as possible, but it's spit out this little marketing thing.
I'm going to throw it up here.
We're going to disappear, but they'll still be able to hear us.
Cool.
It's really cool looking.
Oh, look at that.
Oh, it's a little overblown.
on here but it's the cover and it's got a couple pages and yeah it's awesome man it's the best
one yet by far no doubt about it you got awesome stuff you guys i will check it out out the
yeah that's awesome the hydronamus yes i heard you talk about it's insane what is this
five kilowatts per hour or day i don't know the electronics yet exactly i haven't read on it
enough. It's basically a big cart that generates power, purifies water, and does it all
four or five solar panels. Wow. And it was basically designed by this engineer who was
strictly wanting to have a pool behind for bugging out. And he designed it like his life depended
on it. It purifies 150 gallons of water a day. Wow. Yeah. It's it's it's it's like a
trailer mount you can hook it on a four-wheeler you could do that yeah yes yes it's it's it's the bug out
power and water system for sure it ain't cheap but it's yeah it's sweet yeah it's all kinds of cool
stuff in the guy i mean it's check it out there's so much cool stuff man there's all this new stuff man
there's all this new that's crazy i got this thing next to me right now i got a show dave because i
want to know if you can the guy who made it doesn't even know if you can make alcohol with it
but it's a just basically a distiller built into a
Ammo can
Okay
And the way it works is you
Take the dirty water
Throw it into a canter
Like a pressure canner
Yeah
And put the pressure canter over your fire
Or over a you know stove or whatever
And then just distill the water through it
It's pretty cool
It's cool
And it also it generates power while it does it
From the heat pressure or something
Yeah it's cool
There's so much cool stuff out there man
But yeah
chock full of it but
I'm going to wrap this up guys if that's
okay with you because we have our continuity
meeting and continuity next
hey I want to say to
PBN family if you haven't
listened to my
Veterans Day speech
oh yeah
go check it out
oh yeah Dave had me all choked up
listen to that damn speech
I'm sitting there waiting for
to get my kid out of school and you're
talking about
none of it would have happened in that
I'm such a softy when things line up like that in people's lives.
You know what I mean?
You see like the fate happening.
Yep, yep, yep.
It's just unbelievable.
And it's my life.
So when they asked me to speak at the school, I didn't know what the, what am I going to talk about?
You know, and that just popped in my head.
So my message is to veterans.
But anybody, anybody, anybody, listen to that story.
story it is a huge story this day and age because we got a lot of people tapping out at like
26 yeah you know what i mean yeah like they're like i can't get ahead in this world nothing's
working i can't get a girl you know i mean yeah and you're like man you're not even
starting yet right right well i appreciate you guys man thanks so much for coming on i hope
if the audience got something out of it go ahead yeah and if i think of anything else that
I didn't come up with.
You will?
I know I will.
I know.
The daily audio cash will drop travel tip part two
with Dave Jones.
I didn't listen to your Starlink episode yet.
I got to listen to that.
Oh, well, that was just
I found Starlink for
349.
Oh.
And I'm like,
huh.
Oh, yeah, the hydro-the hydronamus thing
I was telling you about.
It's got all these different attachments.
I can't tell everybody about all of them.
but one of them is that one of them is like an attachment where you hook your starlink to it
so then you can travel with water with that with power and with uh communications yes wow
yeah it's like super it's like super smart prepper engineer guy created the coolest thing
that he could create for himself and then and then realize like oh i could send these to
a lot of people want this yeah i could send these off to different places but
All right. I appreciate it. PBM family, have a good night. Check out the calendar and, you know, pack up if you're traveling. The days will be here before long. Talk to you soon, folks.
