Starting point is 00:00:00 Today's water omnibus is sponsored by the one and only inertmugs.com. Tactical drinkware, explosive style. They've been a friend of ours for a long time. You're now an official partner and distributive disaster coffee.com. I can tell you anything else about inertmugs.com. Get the coolest tumbles, coolest coffee mugs in the world, period. Explosive ordinance, dynamite, thermite, Joe Fire, you name it.
Starting point is 00:00:31 They got it. The wrap on a Tumblr. In their mugs. Not top. Enjoy the water prep on with us. Yeah. Good stuff. I mean, like I said, I just think that the
Starting point is 00:00:51 hygiene is just so overlooked that it's an important one. All right, so I told Chin, I'm drinking sparkling water tonight. It's like the worst thing I could have done for this podcast. But I was craving one so bad. So if you hear me pause for a minute, I'm just trying not to be rude.
Starting point is 00:01:15 So after a disaster. So disasters cause all this damage. We're dealing with it ourselves in the United States tonight. Lots of people around the world are dealing with this. Massive amounts of flooding on the rise. Like South Africa, you know, and just southern African continent, not just South Africa, but like southern African continent is really getting hammered with flooding.
Starting point is 00:01:40 So not only did it match with our story today was very, very timely. We talk a lot about water purification. You can find all kinds of articles on my survival basics in the survival guide regarding water purification. But water is so essential that it's something that we touch on all the time
Starting point is 00:02:01 because you've got to have a lot of methods and know this stuff through and through. So we're going to hit it again. And I got some different information today. Always learning. Always learning. So after disaster, especially a flood, if you have any question about the quality of your water
Starting point is 00:02:25 or you've been told that it's unsafe to drink, do not, you know, wash dishes, brush your teeth with it, wash with it, use it for food prep, wash your hands, make ice, or make baby formula. That's literally coming from the CDC. I was like, who would, they think that the baby formula is going to purify it? You know, but I guess it needs to be said that, no, don't use it for any of those reasons. At this time, you should be using bottled water or stored water or you got to treat it.
Starting point is 00:03:01 Okay, so even when it comes to your well, do not use it if you think there's a chance it's been contaminated. Your well is literally just water from the ground. And if it just got a big deal of, you know, it could be a mess. Livestock waste, human sewage, chemicals, that kind of thing on top of it, do not drink from it. wells that are left less than 50 foot down are most likely to be contaminated. So you've got to get it tested before you drink from it again. Really, really important. Some of the other things.
Starting point is 00:03:44 Well, we talked about traveling to foreign countries. But water, don't use water from radiators or boilers. I can't believe that needed to be said out loud as well. Like, I'm just going to pop my car radiator. Yeah, no chemicals or heavy metals in that, huh? Right. Some of the times that water is horribly disgusting. Oh, my gosh.
Starting point is 00:04:11 And I've never actually seen a boiler. Like, I did, we didn't, we had a hot water system in our house in Michigan that heated it. But, you know, under 16, it's not like I was working at it. And then out in Cali, there's not really that. kind of thing. So, but yeah, water from boilers or those types of hot water systems, whereas you use to heat your house. Don't take it from there. There are lots of good sources. I gave the commercial for the waterfall. That's 30 gallons of drinking water that's filtered, that's constantly good, that's stored at your house, ready to go. The system is a little thrifty,
Starting point is 00:04:51 but in my opinion, worth it because it puts a lot of peace in your mind. It's not going to go anywhere. It's a good deal. I like the waterfall. Water heater.
Starting point is 00:05:07 Always a good source. Ice cubes, right, that are in your freezer? Already, yeah. Yeah. When the disaster first hits, empty that ice bin into a clean container. Not only are you going to save yourself a mess, if your freezer were to dehydrate or dehydrate
Starting point is 00:05:26 defrost your freezer is just where'd all the water go that'd be perfect scenario actually how can I make that happen when I'm trying to defrost my freezer but you know all those ice cubes are going to be made beforehand so that's a great idea the toilet tank not the toilet bowl no not the bowl not the bowl not the bowl
Starting point is 00:05:51 the tank the water behind yeah um canned fruit and vegetable liquid yep a lot of times we break them open and we throw that liquid out right that's what we're used to doing so stop that you can save that and actually drink that which i mean you know if you're hard up against it but um the swimming pool or the spa and uh that's one of the reasons why i like to have i have like one of those little you know thousand dollar outside pools. It's one of the reasons why I love to have that is this because it's like thousands of gallons of water there. You wouldn't really want to drink that water,
Starting point is 00:06:29 but for cleaning and to have a gray water, perfect. Garden Girl says, just let the dogs drink from the bowl. Yeah, my dog is like the slobber omatic, and he, yeah, it would be everywhere. It will be everywhere. So I don't even let that happen. he just lobbers it all over the house.
Starting point is 00:06:52 Outside sources, this is where, you know, it's just lame, rainwater, duh, streams, duh, like moving water lakes, pond, natural springs. If you're in a flooding situation that could possibly have just contaminated your drinking supply, I probably wouldn't trust any of those outdoor sources that they suggested. Good. Well, did you see the one about the trees? Oh, I did, but talk to this about that one. So they were saying, you know how like you tap trees for like maple surface stuff?
Starting point is 00:07:30 That's another source. And like cactus. I've seen that too where people get water out of cactus. Yep. They have grape vines. I never even thought about a tree, you know, tap in the tree for the. Yeah. Yeah, they have these like grape vines that grow over the oaks in Cali that you can actually just cut the bottom of.
Starting point is 00:07:49 of them and it's... Get the water out. Yeah, water supply right there. Yeah. So, no, you're wild foraging as well. I mean, I always think about all the filters and tablets and all that kind of stuff. I'd never thought about the tree. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:08:04 Lots of good natural sources. The dew, right? You can put, like, wrap your legs and material and just go walk through dewy grass and then wring that stuff out. I mean, dude, if you need... What do you do with there? If you need the... water. I mean, it's true. I want to see you do a video on that, Sarah. We all want to.
Starting point is 00:08:26 Not in Texas. Do a video for us. I'd have to like be in a wetter place than here. That's for sure. At Preper Camp, the fields in the morning, man, you could harvest some water. Yes. Yes. Holy smokes. Right? That's what I'm talking about. I wear my buck boots in the morning and then I switch over at lunchtime. It's so wet. Yeah. The grass. I put my boots on in the morning for sure, too, out there. But not really here. No.
Starting point is 00:08:57 Boiling. So, boiling water for decontaminating. How long? Right? That's always the question. How long? I know. It's like every time I read an article, it seems like I get a different time.
Starting point is 00:09:13 Yeah. So the CDC says one minute. elevations above 6,500, three minutes. You know, if you have the fuel, go three minutes. Yeah, I've heard three minutes. Right? If it's not, like if you're not concerned about fuel, then why wouldn't you just do the three minutes anyway?
Starting point is 00:09:32 But the other thing is, the more you boil, the more you're boiling off too, so. That's true. But the longer you boil. So if water's hard to come by, if you have a tough source. To me, doing the distillation
Starting point is 00:09:48 is really the cleanest method for getting clean water. So if you're going to be distilling it anyway, you're going to boil it off and collect. So three minutes. You could do both, right? Yeah. Mm-hmm. So that's a great. That's a great deal.
Starting point is 00:10:07 Like I said, if you have the fuel. So when you first start out with it, say you like collect the water from the lake and it's like, like disgusting, right? So you want to put a cloth, clean cloth, paper towel, coffee filter over the top of whatever and then pour it through that cheesecloth would work, you know, to just take off any of the big chunky type stuff. Yeah. And then they say to let it like settle, right? After you pour it through the cloth, let it settle and then take the water off the top of that. And that's going to get you your cleanest water. Yeah. That makes sense.
Starting point is 00:10:44 As much The particulate toe. Right. So most of the time, like when we collected lake water and did all that stuff, it tastes nasty. Okay. It was like, and we treat it with the iodine? Oh, that's the word.
Starting point is 00:11:04 It was so disgusting. Yeah. So ways to make it taste better. You can aerate the water, you know, blow bubbles literally into it. put a kid on task, you know. Now you get the blow bubbles. I still want a water purification video from you, sir, walking out through the field with the plastic on your legs
Starting point is 00:11:24 and then blowing bubbles. Yeah. Well, you can pour it from container to container too. No, it's so disgusting. Like the iodized water, ew. I would think I would much rather go with the chlorine. Your fans demand it. We'll see.
Starting point is 00:11:42 If my fans demand it. that maybe, but, you know, I'm not really one for peer pressure either, so. The other thing you can do is put a pinch of salt for each quart or a liter of water and put some salt in there and it helps out, I guess. So I don't know. It was really, really gross. Disinfectance. So the iodine, obviously, but chlorine.
Starting point is 00:12:12 chlorine is where it's at. It does the best. It kills most organisms, the most resistant ones. I'm a firm believer in the chlorine tablets because it's just going to store longer than the liquid. However, much harder to know what your concentrate is. You literally have to make your own batch of water with it. And then, you know, hope that you have the concentration.
Starting point is 00:12:42 right. So that's going to be trickier. Make it into a liquid chlorine and then use that substance to treat your order. Exactly. And that's going to be a lot more difficult with the tablets, but I mean, they're going to store so much longer, there's so much easier to store than
Starting point is 00:12:58 any kind of liquid chlorine. So, oh, you buy yours when it's on sale to flavor the filtered water if we need it. What's that salt? Garden girl. Tell me, so. So, yeah, I will go.
Starting point is 00:13:19 What? Mayo. Is that that little stuff that comes? Oh, yeah. The meo. Uh-huh. The little flavor drops. Yeah, that's what I've heard people do is it brings a bit of powder.
Starting point is 00:13:32 Some kind of sports drink kind of powder to put in to kind of take some of the edge off. Uh-huh. That makes sense. Yeah. Yeah. Oh, like maybe a little Kool-Aid. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:13:45 That's totally. Actually, that's what we ended up doing. We had Gatorade powder. And we put that in there. People just put some of that in there. Yeah. But then we had to like, we put the Gatorade powder water in our camel packs and then it dyed it all blue. But that's okay.
Starting point is 00:14:05 Live and learn. Oh, yeah. Yeah, live and learn. Okay. So know the concentration of your liquid bleach. In the United States, most household liquid bleaches are going to be. be a 5% to a 9% chlorine amount. They usually have directions on the bottle for purifying water, but if they don't, the CDC
Starting point is 00:14:27 suggests 1 eighth teaspoon per gallon or eight drops to about 0.5 milliliters. So two drops per each liter or quart. So if you had a quart jar, two drops of bleach in there, stir it up, and let it stand 30 minutes before drinking. And the reason is, yeah, the reason is because chlorine will dissipate, right? And it's already done its job, it'll dissipate out of the water. So. Yeah, the sun.
Starting point is 00:14:59 Yeah. It's so crazy to think about all the stuff they do to our water to make it, like, purified and whatnot. And then what we're actually drinking in that cup. I use my, my filter anyway. Yeah, we do. Mm-hmm. My Alex beer. I can literally taste the difference in my water.
Starting point is 00:15:22 Like if my mom uses our water to make coffee, I know it's tap. It's like from that tap. And I was drinking like a lot of sodas and stuff like that. And I went just all water because, you know, that's what's better. And just have a little soda as a treat or whatever on the weekend. That's what we do. Right? And the minute I did.
Starting point is 00:15:44 that, I got really, really bad stomachaches. And the only thing I could figure out was that I switched to like drinking that much tap water. And so I put it back through my Alex pier and was like, nope. Yeah, we got one of those, the countertap ones because of you prefer. Mm-hmm. Yeah, our old house had the well. And we had like a large amount of sulfur and stuff like that in our water. So we used it religiously.
Starting point is 00:16:10 And then when we moved to city water, we were like, oh, not that big deal, right? Oh, I want to do all the chlorine and all that. Exactly. All the nasties that they put in there. One thing is if you're going to use the filter as your water purification method, you should be doing. So this is if you had dirty water, like you're not taking your city tap water, you know, I'm putting it through there. If you have like really dirty water, you want your filter to be one micron or less. Most of them are nowadays.
Starting point is 00:16:45 But it still won't remove viruses and stuff like that. So it still suggests that you do like a chlorine disinfectant after you filter it. And that's what I was really curious about. It was like, can you get away with just using your filter? I mean, you can't. It's going to be better than drinking nothing, right? But you should still be doing a disinfect after. So maybe in the go bag
Starting point is 00:17:13 You want to throw one of those chlorine tabs in your bag or something like that Yeah Yeah Like I say the liquid bleach just doesn't store very long So if it's a situation where you're not going to be changing it out a lot I would opt for a For a tablet Yeah I've got tablets and a
Starting point is 00:17:34 Commercial water filter thing Do they make like smaller chlorine tablet? for water purification? Cool. Yeah, I'll have to go look for that. Have some of that thrown in my go bag. So what else did you learn? What kind of new stuff did you pick up today from?
Starting point is 00:17:55 Well, the biggest new thing was, I said, was tap in the tree. Yeah. And we've, like solar stills, I mean, I knew about them, but to take a hole, put the plastic with the rock in the middle, and put a char underneath. to that you can like make water
Starting point is 00:18:13 kind of make water but if you put have you been in it foliage and so like you know in there oh yeah the the plant
Starting point is 00:18:22 vegetation gives off the water it gets it evaporates onto the plastic and then because you have a rock in the middle of the plastic to make it drip down it drips into whatever container you have in the middle
Starting point is 00:18:34 so you can if like if you don't have like a lake near You can kind of make water by doing stuff like that. That's a really good one for ocean water as well. Yeah, because you rate the salt water. You put a container of salt water in there off the side and that it evaporates, you know, because it uses energy from the sun through the plastic.
Starting point is 00:18:58 The water gas evaporates up, hits the plastic cools, turns into particles, you know, droplets of water. As when you... As when you distill it. Same basic concept. Except you're using some power. Yeah, sunpower, exactly. So. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:19:20 And that's good stuff. Because if you only have salt water, you're in trouble. Or, alternatively, if you need salt. That's a way to be able to harvest salt. Yeah. So you have that left in the container that you had saltwater in originally. Mm-hmm. The salt would be left behind.
Starting point is 00:19:37 Yeah. Yeah, that's the one, when we were close, like, to ocean water and stuff. I was like, hmm, okay, that makes sense. Yeah. Because what do you do if that's all you have to drink is nasty, Vell? Bottom line is... No, that's like, there's a dehydrate. What?
Starting point is 00:19:56 You can't drink just salt water. Yeah, I know. You can't drink just salt water. Yeah, no. Yeah. But that method, even if you're, like, stranded, if you can get something over it while it's evaporating, you can get... Yeah.
Starting point is 00:20:07 good water to drink. Yep. Yep. That's a good method. Bottom line is have many different systems, right? Know how to do this stuff in many different ways.
Starting point is 00:20:21 Because what if you can't start a fire? What if you can't produce heat to boil it? You know, then you're going to have to have an alternate method. What if you don't have fluorine? Or you don't, you know. So you're going to have to be able to use all of these different methods because water is so important.
Starting point is 00:20:37 Is it? Besides air. Three days, right? Three days. Yep. That's why I like to use the three minute rule too, because rules of three with survival. All right.
Starting point is 00:20:51 Three minutes without air. Social media? No, definitely. Facebook is like, you have messages. I'm like, I don't care. Three minutes without your social media. No, three minutes. It's like society's gone, too.
Starting point is 00:21:09 Yeah. No, it's true. It's true. Three, no, yeah, three minutes air. Three hours of extreme weather. Three days of water. Three weeks of food. And that's it.
Starting point is 00:21:24 The rules of three. That's what you need. Yep. Okay. Let's bust into the change in Earth news, because I got a lot to talk about it. Let's go ahead and do that. Roll that beautiful Weather music.
Starting point is 00:21:46 All right, changing earth news, news, news. Our sun, we had some huge activity going on last week. Nothing like that I needed to tell you, you know, to like break in on the week about. It's kind of calming down the past couple days. We do have a coronal hole that's inbound again. So that means earthquake watch. So we're back on Earthquake Watch, and we had some intense earthquake activity last week. So we definitely want to keep an eye on that.
Starting point is 00:22:18 Some plasma filaments popping up there, that kind of thing. The climate of people, I guess, came out with a new study. Yeah. And they're saying that the wildfires from just the past two years have completely erased. like 20 years of us trying to get emissions down and the wildfires have just wiped out everything we did. It's like, do you realize what a small speck you are? Like the volcanoes could just be like, burp and, you know, total game changer. So yes, I want to protect our planet and not pollute and do all those things. But in the grand scheme of things, I don't really think we're the ones in charge of that.
Starting point is 00:23:12 So, yeah, that was the big news from the climate freaks that just want to panic about everything. They're having cases now of, like, teenagers with PTSD because their parents have, like, push this climate change BS so far down their throats their whole life. They're like, oh, my God. And then they're like, you prepers are the fear mongers. Uh-huh. Okay. It's ridiculous. Right?
Starting point is 00:23:44 Big storm yesterday across the Midwest. Prayers going out to everybody affected from the storm, Tennessee, Kentucky. Literally, we were watching it. It didn't hit our house. It was just east of us. But I was watching it on radar. The ribbon of storm. activity literally stretched from Houston to Toronto last night or yesterday during the day.
Starting point is 00:24:11 It was insanity to watch it and it did some damage and Lord just reach out to everybody who needs your help today and please make sure they're safe in your arms or wherever they need to be. So all right. On December 4th, we had 600. and 42 earthquakes that were 2.0 or bigger. That's a big number. I think the most we've seen is like 800 in one day.
Starting point is 00:24:43 So that's up there. Biggest of which was a 5.7 in the Philippines. They're literally still getting earthquakes like daily over there. It's crazy. I couldn't imagine living on that island right now. So prayers to everybody over there. It's got to be a nightmare. the day before that they actually had a 6.8 in Mindano in the Philippines three people dead and that was their third quake in just two days and then they got hit by a 5.7 the next day cyclone I have no idea how to say this name it's Machong M-I-C-H-A-U-N-G it was over there given India a big-time wallop in the Shinai airport
Starting point is 00:25:30 was affected. There were runways. Everything was completely flooded. So I had flight delays. There was also a 5.1 earthquake in Bursa Turkey. In the UK, Little Hampton, a tornado touchdown. 136-mile-an-hour winds left a three-mile trail of destruction over there. The UK has just really been getting wallup this winter. So, you know, prayers to all of them over there that are dealing with this rugged weather. Not anything unlike our coastlines right now, though. We had the Pacific atmospheric river come through and hit the northwestern end of the United States and into Canada. So Highway 101 was closed in Oregon due to flooding on the fourth, and that situation is just going to ramp up from there. In Tanzania, there was 47 people killed 85 injured in flooding and
Starting point is 00:26:28 landslides in their country. And also Sumatra, one person has died. Eleven people are missing and flooding over there. So the rain is just continuing to hit that South African continent. Queensland, Australia was hit with 87 mile an hour winds and hail the size of tennis balls. Damaging cars and farms. So they've been taking it on the chin. They get a little bit of a reprieve this week, but they are,
Starting point is 00:26:58 kind of gearing up for this tropical cyclone. They've named it Jasper. And it was predicted to be a cat four by the time it comes in to hit Queensland. Although it did downgrade a little bit and it hasn't hit yet. It might be hitting today, actually, and we won't hear news of it until tomorrow. So we're keeping our eyes on that one during the week. On December 5th, there was 538 earthquakes over 2.4. or bigger, still a pretty big number.
Starting point is 00:27:29 We're still up there. 5.8 in the Philippines. Again, biggest earthquake of the day. There was a 5.1 on the big island of Hawaii. Mishong, the Cyclone Mishong, left 17 people dead there in India due to flooding. The death toll in Tanzania increased to 63. Remember last week I was talking about on Mount Marapi in Indonesia. volcano erupted.
Starting point is 00:28:00 There was 11 hikers that were dead, and then they were still looking for the other 12 that were out there. They've called off the search now and just increased the death toll to 23 because they haven't been able to find them. And I don't know if they actually found bodies yet or not, but they search for pretty much all week and haven't been able to find them. So they're assuming that they perished in that as well. death count from that one's up to about 23.
Starting point is 00:28:31 So another study that they've been doing is showing that more natural disasters are happening, but less deaths are actually happening because these natural disasters, thanks to the early warning systems we have in place. So it seems to me I know a book series that kind of goes along those lines, like massive amounts of damage. And then we have no infrastructure and a lot of people. we have to figure that out. You know, you should put that up on the chat.
Starting point is 00:29:02 Probably a bunch of, like to read it. Right. I know. I've read them a couple times. That would be the change in our series if you guys seriously don't know. I'm just going to spell it out for you at this point. December 6, there was 446 earthquakes. So, were 2.0 or bigger, the biggest of which was a 5.4 in Quinghai, China.
Starting point is 00:29:27 in Southern California, there was a 3.5 magnitude earthquake that shut down 20 rides at Disneyland. Oh, poor Disneyland. Disney. Japan, thousands of tourists were stranded as a cold snaps in Gulf's Asia. So it was getting so cold.
Starting point is 00:29:48 They couldn't fly the planes and stuff anymore. So all the tourists were trapped there. In Washington, we had homes, roads flooded. I did hear from J.B. up in Washington. She's doing okay, working too much, but doing okay. And I didn't talk to Orion, though. I have to check in with him. In Iceland, the tremors continue, but no eruption of the volcano as of yet.
Starting point is 00:30:15 So interesting situation there, right? So there's all these tremors. You live in the city. Your city is literally getting ripped apart by earthquakes and whatnot. So they evacuate the whole city because they're, you know, eruptions imminent. But then, like, no eruption. It's like, do you go back home when they're still having, like, you know, tons of earthquakes, 120, something like that a day? Or what do you do, you know, in that circumstance?
Starting point is 00:30:47 Take a breath. Yeah, right? It's like 9-11. People evacuated a building and then were told to go. back in. Right. I think I'll wait. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:31:00 I think, yeah, I just don't know. But like, that's your house. And what if you have a mortgage on it? You're paying for that house that's in that area. And then you've got to like pay to live someplace else. I mean, that's a total insurance question. And of course, that's where my insurance brain goes. But, you know, I'm just saying it's got to be an interesting situation for those people.
Starting point is 00:31:23 Speaking of insurance, the insurance journal is saying that because of the uptick of hail that they're losing so many solar panels that it's undermining the security of having solar panels as a energy source. So basically they're paying out so much on these panels all the time that they're not sure, you know, I mean, you don't get a discount on your insurance for having solar panels, but what if you got a penalty or something because of it. You know, what if they excluded solar panels from your insurance policy, that kind of thing. So that was one of my big concerns with it.
Starting point is 00:32:07 And they can withstand pretty good. I mean, I did all that research on solar panels. They can take a pretty good licked. But, you know, they can't stand up to a baseball size. And that's what we've been seeing. So I don't know what we're going to do about that. cover your panels make sure they're okay in a solar storm or in a hail storm I really like that flower thing I know it was like it was like oh gosh it was probably like
Starting point is 00:32:35 $12,000 or something but it was this flower it was a solar panel flower that was literally on a trailer so you can move it around and during the daytime it opens up like a flower and follows the sun and then it closes down if it's a storm or whatever. So I mean, I wonder if that's more effective. My thought was like too many moving parts. Yep. To go wrong.
Starting point is 00:33:01 So, but now I'm a little bit more curious. Okay. I bet you can find some kind of just screen that goes or covering that would just motorized come across this traditional panel. Right. Or even a plexiglass. If you had like a clear plexiglass, that would still let the sunlight through, but could make like a cage for, you know, like they use for hockey boards.
Starting point is 00:33:30 Yeah. Because that stuff can take a beating. I mean, it can't take a beating from everything. Nothing can take a beating from everything. But it does a pretty good job, and it probably wouldn't be too expensive to make like a cage for it. At least it would give it something to crack before it hit your panel. And hopefully the panel would still function properly in our. underneath it, you know, if you had it set up that way.
Starting point is 00:33:57 Okay, December 7th, 396 earthquakes are 2.0 or bigger. That's a little bit more of an average number there, the 396. 4.4 near Kilauea Summit, so the big island earthquakes continue. The biggest of the day, though, was a 7.1 in Venatube. that is due to a lot of solar activity. It usually thumps Vanatu pretty hard, and then that transfers around the ring of fire. In Oregon, two people have died because of the flooding due to that atmospheric river activity.
Starting point is 00:34:34 It was still raining. It rained all week pretty much up there. And then tropical cyclone Jasper was ramping up on the 7th to a cap 5, but it has been slowing down again. like I say, probably hitting the day. Swaths of Siberia went to negative
Starting point is 00:34:56 72 degrees Fahrenheit in temperature. That's how cold Asia is right now. Dude. I am not living. Get about it. No.
Starting point is 00:35:11 No. Like, you can't, you can't even go out. You're just going to insta-freeze. Like, that's stay inside material for, you know. ever right there. Remember wait? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:35:23 Did you have to wait for the school bus as a kid in Michigan? Oh yeah. Could you imagine? No. That's what I'm saying. Like if your hair, if your hair was wet, even if we drove to school, you just got out of the shower, your hair's wet. It would break off. Exactly.
Starting point is 00:35:39 Oh, like, and that wasn't no negative 72. Like maybe a windshield, you know, windshield of negative 30 or something, right? but straight up negative 72 degrees Fahrenheit. No. Uh-uh. Not this girl. I was like, I'm done. December 8th of 2020, there was 553 earthquakes that were 2.0 or bigger.
Starting point is 00:36:10 Still up there, you know, go just bounce right back to being up there. Biggest of which was a 5.8 in the Solomon Islands. There is a 5.8 earthquake that hit Mexico City. There's a 5.9 earthquake that hit the Philippines again. And the 7.1 from Vanatu, that's from the day before. On the ninth, so this is yesterday, 445 earthquakes that were 2.0 or bigger. Biggest of which was a 5.7 in the British Virgin Islands. They actually had two earthquakes that happened there pretty much in synchronization.
Starting point is 00:36:46 and it's really interesting because there was a couple of earthquakes. Where is that? Okay, we're coming up to it. So right here. So there was a 2.2 in northern Texas. There was also a 3.6 in Utah, Totonia, Utah. And this is North American Craton Movement. If you don't know what the North American craton is, just Google it.
Starting point is 00:37:17 You'll see pictures of it. But this is our actual plate that sits on top of the United States, wiggling. And I think it had some kind of trigger from the Bridges Virgin Islands. And then I told you, once it hits a Vanatu, it kind of travels around the ring of fire from there, usually hits up into the northern part of the United States and then shoots down the craton. So that would be a definite reason, other than fracking and oil production and stuff, that northern Texas would have that 2.2. So that makes me watch over to the East Coast
Starting point is 00:37:50 because once you have the earthquakes on that craton, it's traveling around going into the East Coast. So then we're looking for earthquakes like Virginia area, anywhere along the New Madrid, that kind of thing, looking for activity there. Santa Ana wins. Return into Southern California. So we have red flag warnings down there.
Starting point is 00:38:13 a couple of fires that did break out. Nothing of mention, though, nothing big. Of course, we had the huge storm yesterday. Tennessee, Kentucky, got just creamed with that storm. More than 12 reported tornadoes touching down. Some of the worst hit
Starting point is 00:38:31 spots were Henderson, Tennessee. North part of their town was just destroyed. Clarksville, Tennessee got it. Nashville, Tennessee got it. There's at least six people dead that they know of right now, at least two dozen injured in that event. So a lot of destruction. It was still a rainy mess today. So they're just trying to figure out, you know, like what's the damage count
Starting point is 00:38:57 and just get a cap on what's going on right now. Pretty much asking people to just shelter in place unless you have like a severe emergency that you need, you know, assistance or something like that if you're in that area, just, you know, hang out if you can. There's no power in those areas and stuff right now that I know of, at least this afternoon. So it's just a shelter in place type situation. One of the bigger concerns is that these towns that were hit, the small businesses there, they really, really rely upon Christmas sales to be able to make it through their year. And now here we are, you know, what, 15 days out from Christmas. and their store is wrecked, right?
Starting point is 00:39:42 So some people are going to set up like little booths in parking lots and stuff like that to try and capture some of the sales that they would normally get. So if you are in that area, go out and support your small businesses, go spend some money at their stores if they're still wanting to do business
Starting point is 00:39:59 because, you know, small business is where it's at and it's really an essential time of year. And that beyond having to go through the mess of your whole business just got shredded. Now it's at the worst time of the possible year for that to happen. And so you're going to have to deal with the fallout from that as well. So if you can support them, please go do that. Okay.
Starting point is 00:40:27 So today is the 12th. We had four, or today is the 10th. Sorry, 12, 10. We had 454 earthquakes that were 2.0 or bigger. biggest of which today was a 6.4, pretty much smack dab in the middle of Russia, kind of to their southern border, but centrally located. There was a 5.8 earthquake that took place out in the ocean near Peru. There was a 3.0 earthquake outside of Jackson Center, Ohio. So again, this is that unusual activity.
Starting point is 00:41:02 This would be the North American Craton movement coming around from those earthquakes that happened on the other side. There was a 4.0 that hit Romania and a 2.1 earthquake that hit Scotland. It is worth noting because it was only five miles deep, so it was a pretty good tremor and made a pretty good ruckus on top. You know, the shallower earthquakes are, the more you're going to feel them. So the fact that it was only five miles deep is what makes this even mentionable. There are currently 50, million Americans under a flood watch. So guys, be careful out there. You know, we got stuff happening both the east and west coast.
Starting point is 00:41:45 Be safe. Be smart. Don't drive through the floodwater. Still sorting the damage in Tennessee. Southwestern Alabama was hit with marble-sized hail in that event. Mississippi was hit with baseball-sized hail, so they're not going to be outdone by Alabama. And there was a tornado touchdown in Rally,
Starting point is 00:42:07 Carolina today, just a little one, just eyes on kind of situation, not nearly the destruction we saw into a seat. Currently, there are 28 volcanoes erupting. There are 10 showing minor activity and 34 showing unrest. The erupting numbers are high, but we've been holding pretty steady at 28 for the last few weeks. So we'll have to see what happens with the coronal hole. And then we had all that earthquake activity last week, so if that number climbs or not. And honestly, we got up to like 30 once, and that's like the most I've ever seen before. So we'll just have to keep eyes on that. Currently, wildfire in the United States, we are at our preparedness level of one,
Starting point is 00:42:51 which is basically non-existent. There's only 304 acres burning from two fires, and that's being reported in from North Carolina. So not even out west where it's getting ready to, the wind. to blow out there. All righty. Well, that's the change in earth news for today. I hope everybody's, you know, hunkered in and got cold down here in Texas. And from what I understand, pretty cold across the rest of the country.
Starting point is 00:43:21 So hopefully everybody's snuggled up and getting ready for Christmas and enjoying time with the family. Yeah. Yeah. Did an office party last night? So that was a... Did you? there's one thing I don't miss it's kind of hard to do an office party
Starting point is 00:43:42 when you're like 8,800 miles away. Yeah. No. Yeah, remote working. Oh. All right, guys. Virgis Story is getting ready to work your minds a little bit.
Starting point is 00:44:05 Stay tuned for next time. Check out the Changing Earth audio drama on Thursday. You guys are going to love it. Really good stuff. And until next time, remember, dream. Survive. Thrive. Thank you for joining Sarah and Chen for this episode of the Changing Earth podcast.

Starting point is 00:45:01 This is James Walton, host of the I Am Liberty Show, Intrepid Commander here at the Prepper Broadcasting Network, visit us at Prepperbroadcasting.com for sort of the full breakdown of all that we do. This podcast network is 100% free to anybody who wants to listen to any of the shows in the archives. But we do more than just this. We have a membership side of this thing with a bunch of different shows, a bunch of different information. all on preparedness and fortification of your family for this time in history. Okay, we believe pretty succinctly in self-reliance and independence.
Starting point is 00:45:46 And listen, the more we head down this path, whatever the hell this path is, the more that rings true. Self-reliance and independence questioning what it is to. to be free, what it means to have liberty in this brave New America, this American theater, the United States of extortion, whatever you want to call it. The Great American Theater is probably my favorite at the moment. But anyway, the conversation of liberty and freedom is sort of the backbone of what we talk about here at PBN. Now, we might not talk, we might not use the word freedom, but Holmes,
Starting point is 00:46:31 steading and preparedness are all about fortifying your freedom. It's all about giving you choices so that you might, well, you might not have your back pressed up against the wall and have to make a decision you don't want to make, right? And that's what so many Americans are facing right now. And, you know, it's hard to watch, quite frankly. It's hard to watch. And I think for many, it's just the beginning. And that stinks. But, Such is life, PBN family. So if you're new, welcome aboard. If you've been with us a while, we thank you.
Starting point is 00:47:07 We love you. It's been great, okay? It's been a great ride for me, I can tell you that much. I wanted to discuss water for a little bit because living on the fault was talking water in the chat room, the live chat room over at Element yesterday, and we didn't really get to touch on it too much. So I thought I'd give you sort of a breakdown of
Starting point is 00:47:29 emergency water, water preparedness, I guess, on a whole, and maybe give my philosophy on that. When it comes to preparedness, I take a tiered approach, right? And that tiered approach is, I want as many options as possible, right? Now, there are top tier options, mid-range tier options, and, you know, bottom-tier options. and I want as many of them as possible. And I apply that philosophy to food. I apply that philosophy to security, to power, you know, the whole thing. And I build my preparedness goals off that. So water is one of those things.
Starting point is 00:48:15 It's one of those, we call them base level preparedness categories, right? If you can establish what we call a base level of preparedness and build on from that, then you're going to be able to weather a lot. And for those of you who are unaware, the base level preparedness is six simple buckets, right? Water food, first aid, backup power security, and evacuation. All right? Forget about bug out for now. If you're new and you're worried about taking action quick, something sneaking up on you tomorrow next week, next month,
Starting point is 00:48:48 forget about building a bug out bag and a bug out plan. These things take a long time. You don't want to rush them. But what you do want to do is shore up what it looks like if someone comes to your door tomorrow and says, hey, you need to leave your house right now. Okay? And I know that sounds a lot like Bug Out, but it's not. Because, you know, it's all about time away from home and possibility of returning to home.
Starting point is 00:49:12 So look at evacuation first before Bug Out because it's a little less involved. Well, it's a lot less involved. I'm sorry about the buzzing. I'm getting texts and stuff. So let's apply the tiered approach of preparedness to water. Okay? We start with the obvious, which is bottled or jugged water stored at home. I am particularly a fan of water in jugs over water in bottles because it's easier to use.
Starting point is 00:49:43 It's more of a utility. Okay, see if you have to cook, if you have to clean and you don't have any water. I don't know that I would use my bottled water to clean with, but if you're going to fill up a big pot full of water, you're going to use it in a recipe. You don't want to be doing it with bottles, right? You want to be doing it with gallon jugs. It's a lot easier.
Starting point is 00:50:06 Bottle water is still pretty convenient and good for drinking. Truth of the matter is when it comes to stacking water, unlike stacking food. When it comes to stacking water, it's heavy, it's big, there's a lot of mass to it. And the plastic that it's in is usually pretty much trash. So there are serious limitations to how much water you can store in home ready to drink in bottles, right? Serious limitations from space standpoint and that whole thing.
Starting point is 00:50:40 So when it comes down to it, you know, you got to go to the skies. So water and rain catchment is always going to be a great option. beyond the water you store in your home. 55 gallon rain barrels on four of your downspouts is going to make a big difference. Okay, remember, it's not that you can hold 55 gallons of water and that's where you top out. You're always holding water and you can harvest water very often. You know what I mean? And yeah, if you want to invest in a thousand gallons water cistern or 550, whatever,
Starting point is 00:51:29 that's up to you and that's on you and that's probably better. For me, recently, I have been thinking about how to set up a rainwater system for drinking. Just for drinking. I don't know where the pipes would run, how it would work, but in the back of my mind, I think I'd like to set up a rainwater tap for drinking water. You know, I don't know that I'd filter it. The basin would have to be something I could get my grubby hands on so I could clean it from time to time. And it would have to be set up in a smart way.
Starting point is 00:52:03 But I kind of am liking that idea as a project for the future. But even if you're not doing that, the catching of rainwater is vital, right? Outside of rainwater, outside of stored water in the house, using a map to notate a variety of water resources in your area is a very smart way to approach water preparedness for an emergency or disaster. Okay, you want to be able to say, yeah, I got a pond down there,
Starting point is 00:52:34 I got a creek over there, I got a river over here, whatever it is, and be able to take advantage of those in a worst case scenario, right? Because you can go gather water. That's not a big deal. You can go gather water. As long as you got some wheels or some endurance and some strength, you can bring back some water. I would recommend looking into if you think you're going to be in a position where you're gathering water. I don't know if they make the thing anymore, to be honest, but it's a pressurized jerry can by a company called Hydro Blue. And they
Starting point is 00:53:10 did a great job. They created an amazing product that is three gallons. it's a three-gallon jerry can it pressurizes the water it filters the water and you can use it to clean yourself it's a camping product primarily but if you had to you know hump water uh you could carry six gallons three in each hand or one person gets a three-gallon the other person gets three gallon and when you arrive home that water's ready to drink all you got to do is pump it through the filter that's already built in you know so there's you could boil it obviously if you were worried about contamination beyond the filter, but these filters from HydroBlue are pretty impressive. They come with an attachable virus filter and then the filament, just like what you're used to
Starting point is 00:53:57 from say you're catered in or something like that. So identifying water resources is a big deal. I don't, you know, you got to look up the regulations for this, but it might be in the realm of possibility that you can dig your own well also. you know, so let's say you're on another water system, maybe you're not on well water, look into whether or not you can dig a well. Or maybe just dig a well and then fill it back up with dirt because you're not allowed to have one, wink, wink, right? Or have the pieces and the skills and the tools to build a well in austere times.
Starting point is 00:54:43 Right? Sure, there's a lot of regulations that say you can't have a well in certain places or whatever, but you know what? If the water tap goes off for an extended period of time, some laws are going to be broken. And I think the least of people's worries will be whether or not you're digging a well in your backyard so you can have water for your family. And to that end, to make sure that you store up a couple of water test kits if you do go that route and there's nobody you can send that water off to. But that's up to your discretion. You know what I mean? Now, outside of sourcing water, water from different resources, you also got to be able to make sure that it's clean and safe.
Starting point is 00:55:26 The best way to assure that any living pathogens or harmful bacteria viruses are dead and taken care of in that water is to bring it to a rolling boil, right? Bring it to a rolling boil 20 seconds. You're pretty much good to go. But there are other contaminants too. So, you know, I have a bunch of different types of filters, the big Berkey's and one that people use a lot. I don't have one of those. Like I said, the Jerry Cairn's very effective.
Starting point is 00:55:54 The Cater Dine Hiker Pro is one of my, it is my favorite filter that I carry on my person. But there's a bunch of them out there, guys, right? Find the one that works for you. Sawyer makes some great gravity filters. Find the one that works for you and set it aside. use it once in a while so you know what you're doing. And then when it comes time to source water from rain barrels or somewhere other place outside of the tap,
Starting point is 00:56:22 now you have an option of filtering that water and then boiling. You know, filtering takes out a lot of bad taste also. Running it through that activated charcoal takes a lot of the weird taste out of it, takes a lot of the sediment out of it. And those things are important, you know, especially if you have young kids or picky people in the house. You know, they're not going to want to drink water with grains. in it.
Starting point is 00:56:45 Grinding. So pool shock, bleach, sanitizing tablets. These things are all available for you to take advantage of, do a little research to figure out how much you put into each. When it comes to bleach and using bleach to sanitize water, you know, this is what happens to your water supply most likely if you're on city water. the way that it's done is the 6886 rule. Okay, the 6886 rule.
Starting point is 00:57:20 The 6886 rule. This is how I've decided to remember it in my head. The 6886 rule is pretty simple. Six drops of 8% bleach, 8 drops of 6% bleach per gallon. Okay? 6 drops of 8% bleach. concentrated bleach, eight drops of 6%.
Starting point is 00:57:43 Okay, 6-8-8-6 rule. And then you can make your water drinkable, you know, even if it's come off the roof, even if it's come out of a creek or whatever. You can still boil it even after you do all this if you're worried about it. But there are options for water as well. There's a bunch of different ways that you can source water from the wild, you know, rags on your legs and dew in the morning. morning and I'm not interested in those. I'm not interested in sipping water out of the cracks of rocks.
Starting point is 00:58:15 Okay. So I'm not going to give you any guidance on that. Solar stills and all that kind of stuff. I don't think it's pertinent to water resources for a family. You're not going to get enough water. You know what I mean? You need a body of water. You need a bin to collect water in from the sky because it's a massive resource. You need water stored in. the home as much as possible so that you can weather any kind of storm that keeps you from leaving your home, you know, fall out, that kind of stuff is a problem. You can't go outside, you know, so now you got to subsist on everything in the house, water included. Yeah, that's what you're after, PBN family. Go for the big stuff. Make sure you can purify or sanitize the water. Make sure you
Starting point is 00:59:06 can bring it to a rolling boil, make sure you can filter it, and you'll have a safe water resource. You'll have levels and tiers of safe water resources that you can turn to in an emergency or disaster. All right. Double Barrel Tuesday, PBN family. The next generation will be live and the Patriot Power Hour boys will be live as well. Enjoy it. Go to prepperbroadcasting.com if you want to learn more. Become a member today.
Starting point is 00:59:36 and see behind the curtain. All right. Talk soon. Self-reliance is a bit of business. The Pepper Broadcasting Network. We have to hit the reset button and create a true culture of preparedness, starting at a very young age and filtering all the way up. Oh, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls. Welcome to a family affair.
Starting point is 01:00:45 I am your host, Jay Fergie. It helps if I unmute the mic. Yes. Can you hear me now? Still quiet. How about now? Okay, now you got it. All right, so tonight, originally we weren't planning on a show right away, but due to some circumstances, I was not able to go out of town like playing for family.
Starting point is 01:01:12 So that is on hold at the moment until I am told otherwise. So tonight is going to be rain, water. We're going to talk about water collection and what to do when, there isn't any. As of right now, we are getting so much rain. I hear several individuals talking about the fact that they're worried that the gardens are going to be washed out, which is a concern. And was a concern for me initially because I planted my seeds maybe not even a week ago. I did it last Friday maybe is when I, no, I did it on the weekend. I actually finally got my seeds in the ground.
Starting point is 01:01:57 after covering everything. And for me, our garden has actually really sprung up. I had corn, beans, even my tomato from seeds. So the rain may be too much on some of the other people. As of right now, though, the rain is actually helping all of my seeds get going. So, oh, wow, no rain there. Yeah, well, we were towed lots and lots of rain for a little while. All right, let me pull up.
Starting point is 01:02:31 my hello to my chat room it is great to have y'all so what i really wanted to bring to mine is right now you know with all of the rain especially for for much of the southern states i'm not sure how it is for up north i imagine they're being bombarded too but with the rain so the concern of not only having too much rain as far as gardens and yards is you have to consider the fact of what do you you do when you've hit a flood plane level or a flood level? Sometimes there's so much rain within a certain amount of time that you are going to receive flooding and a lot of people don't consider that. Do you have a place? Do you have a certain situation? Hold on one second. Yes, well, you've got to be careful with your plants. What if there was too much water?
Starting point is 01:03:37 Well, if you have too much water, it'll drown out the roots. And I know that. But if, like, there's a big rain and it just pour, and it keep pouring every day. And it can drown out your vegetables, then. Too much water. Yes, a flood will heal everything, Miho. Yeah. And if you're going to get water from, if you're going to get water,
Starting point is 01:04:08 and you put it in a thing when you're going camping, you must always cook it before you drink it. It's bad for you. I don't know if anyone else heard any of what he was saying or not. Could y'all hear it there in the chat? I've got a few in my chat. Let's see if they can hear everything, okay? All right.
Starting point is 01:04:38 I actually have a few references. I went on to Backdoor Survival. We all know my guest, Samantha. Okay. Highlander, what he was asking is what happens when there's a lot of rain, trenchal rain, such as flooding, you know, and what it can do to your plants. I was telling them they could drown them out. But then he also made the comment that when you have a container where you gather water for camping,
Starting point is 01:05:06 you always want to, he says, cook, but in the same essence, boil your water in order for it to be safe to be able to drink. So this is from the mouth of a nine-year-old. I'm not going to complain because he was actually quite asking. accurate. Bear with me, y'all. My apology. All right. So, I'm going to
Starting point is 01:05:37 post this link in the chat. I'm going to refer to a couple sites. Definitely with Samantha Big Biggs. I don't want to miss up the last name. She usually great individual.
Starting point is 01:05:55 I see her picture on here. I don't think she wrote this one. But it talks about 30 plus tips for coping without running water. So even though we're getting a large amount of rain and water right now, that's not to say that we won't go through a very severe dry spell in the middle of the summer. You know, last year, it was it last year of the year before we had we had rain. So much rain that our planting season got pushed back and it was really difficult to get our garden in time. Well, after the rain spell hit, we had. We had rain, we
Starting point is 01:06:31 We hit a very dry, dry spell. Yeah, that wasn't last year. Last year we got so much rain and kept knocking my garden over. It was the year before. And a severe dry spell that we had to try to water everything as much as possible. And lost several plants due to the heat and drought and essence from it. So it goes to show that we really can't decide what Mother Nature is going to do, what nature and its own could throw at us.
Starting point is 01:07:02 So I wanted to speak a little bit about water collection. I don't know any of my chatters have any systems that they use. I know there are various ones, but the most common one, I have a friend who has several food grade-safe containers. Excuse me, I'm so sorry. those blue bottles, I mean, big containers, and she's actually offered several to me, which I'm going to take her up on. And for those containers, I don't know what your laws are, so be careful of whatever your state law is.
Starting point is 01:07:43 Here, there's no regulation as far as rainwater collection. And with rainwater collection, what you're doing is you're setting up a system in order to collect any natural rainwater. water that may fall. So you have an extra sort of water source. So for us, you know, I would set one up for gray water or for garden just to have something extra in case the water is low or for the critters in the yard, you know, our animals are my chickens. But with that being said, you still want to set up some sort of mesh wire or filter. system on top because the last thing you want is to have a rainwater collection system
Starting point is 01:08:32 and it be full of bugs or larva from mosquito and if there's something you're looking at using for a water cellar for your family or for yourself the last thing you want to do is have something in there like that that can make you sick or even bring more diseases or bacteria to you so we drink water from natural springs back medic that's awesome. See, I have a few sterile water containers, a natural creek, a river, thinking about a small pond. That's awesome, Highlander. With that, though, even though, you know, you have the creek, if you do a pond, once you still have to consider a means for sterilization just to keep the water maintained. All right, so also, my gray says,
Starting point is 01:09:24 we have a well, so it depends mostly on our generator. We have a bit of stored water, on the well. Highlander is saying, yeah, I was thinking about getting a hand pump for mine. Mine is only one foot down so I can get to eat easy. See, we're on a well, but we're on an electric pump, which makes it very, very difficult. We do not own the house that we're in. We're written currently, so it makes it difficult to do too much without tapping in because we actually share the well with two other homes on our little block.
Starting point is 01:09:56 so that would be something to consider. We do have water sources on our property, as long as we're able to get to it, we're fine. But you still want to consider having immediate sources of water, like the rainwater collection or something close by to be able to access without any problems. I would always sterilize it no matter where it comes from, right? You know, that's always a good thing.
Starting point is 01:10:27 I know you always hear running water is pretty clean, but you can't be certain of what was upstream before it got to you anyways. Sorry, I'm trying to go through some of my links I have. I want it to go through this one. All right, so some of the common tips, especially like when the power goes out for us, a big one is what we do,
Starting point is 01:11:09 no matter what is we fill the tub with bathwater. Anytime you have any means of an advanced notice or the power goes off, generally, like the electric pumps for your wells will continue to work for a short period of time. so we will fill up every bathtub and all of our sinks. And also in here it says in notes, you know, many fill up as many spare drugs and buckets as you can
Starting point is 01:11:34 and can round up in addition. Fill the Berkeley. Okay, so this person has a burkey that they fill up. Wash your hands, spray generous. All right, so they're talking about sanitation. With limited amounts of water, you can use a spray bottle with liquid castile soap, water. soap, water in copious amounts of tea tree or other antibacterial sensual.
Starting point is 01:12:02 So what they're saying is when you don't have generous amounts of water, you definitely they'll want to be conscious of sanitation, you know, washing your hands, hand sanitizer, whatever means you can particularly just to keep your hands as clean as possible. Because the last thing you want to do when water's not available is past bacteria or illnesses or diseases. Oh, okay. So, leave it. Leave it on.
Starting point is 01:12:35 It's okay. So, My Grace says, I channel my inner OCD for natural water. We boil, cooled, and burkey filter at our campsite and a hand dug well
Starting point is 01:12:44 so boiled and filter. Be careful of the cacti. Some are psychoactive. Oh, Lord. I'm freaking what he said. All right, so another big tip
Starting point is 01:13:01 from, from just from the backdoor survival, which awesome advice here is know the location of your preps. You know, this person had two showers that could be used for taking hot showers after heat and water and stove. Could I find them? No. So a piece of advice there, especially from this article, is know where your stuff are, especially for situations that come up that you don't expect. There's no point in having it if you can't find it. Make sure all your preps are and easily notable on what they are, even if that means you need to take a label maker.
Starting point is 01:13:40 Then take a label maker and make it a little bit easier for yourself. Take a piece of mask and tape and an ink pen. Works better than a label maker. Original label maker, man. Original label maker. So, no matter how, it said, here's another tip. It's no matter how many buckets you have, you need more. That is very true.
Starting point is 01:14:06 Yes, I can hear it. Do you please stop? There's different tips in here. It says, you know, when using the toilet. So here's the saying, I don't know how many people have heard it before. It says if it's mellow. If it's yellow, let it mellow. If it's brown, flush it down.
Starting point is 01:14:28 So that being said, it is not something desirable. I don't think anyone cares to have. But if you have two toilets, you could probably use one for peeing and the other for something a little more solid. or have that one tollet and any time someone has to do something a little more solid, it needs to be flushed. So another one, though, is do not flush toilet paper
Starting point is 01:14:59 and put it into a waste bagget and not the toilet. This will prevent anything from back and up at cramming because of the lack of amount of water you'll be using to flush. Bacon soda can be used. I know growing up, I had an aunt who, would not allow us to flush toilet paper because of the septic system. And used like a dog bag and would throw a few dryer sheets and bacon sewed in there. Just keep the smell out.
Starting point is 01:15:23 And then daily would change it out. I know that sounds gross, but it works. Especially if you're trying to maintain your water system without any issues. Okay, so here's a piece of advice. I did not know. When it comes time to flush, fill the tank with water, and use the handle on the toilet to flush. This uses less water than dumping the water straight into the bowl. Stock up on disposable plates, cups, and eating utensils is what they say.
Starting point is 01:15:57 I don't actually have any disposable plates cups or you eating utensils. I understand where that would save water, not have to wash it. But I actually do not have any in my house. I don't know how many other people keep that. I know some people who live by it, but it's actually for me so much cheaper not to spend the money on that. and use our own, but I can understand when you're trying to save water, you're going to need to save as much as you can. Clean with cloths and rags, not sponges.
Starting point is 01:16:28 Sponges will actually hold bacteria, and that bacteria growth can be spread upon everything else. A washcloth is a lot easier and can be cleaned a lot better than any of the other ones can. So, and here he says to take, number 10, learn to take a sponge bath using a washcloth and soap. Yes. Wet wipes can be used, homemade wipes as it says on here. Another way is growing up, we actually did not have hot water for many years.
Starting point is 01:17:00 So what we would do is we would get our water, we would boil it, and we would mix it with some cold water, and we would use that to wet our hair, wet our body, shampoo up, soap up, and take the remaining water from our containers and dump it and rinse off. but I can see where a sponge bath is going to use way less than doing it the way we did. Let's see. Lime works for that. They used to do that in the outhouses. Oh, okay, lime for the odor. Gotcha.
Starting point is 01:17:32 It helps break it down. Highlander says he has a solar shower, only takes a couple gallons of water and heats by the sun. My grace says, we found that using foam soap used less water than thick liquid stuff, the foam rinses off much quicker. Oh, that's actually great to know. Same here, Highlander. Oh, okay. I do not have one of those.
Starting point is 01:17:54 Can one of y'all send me a link to that? I would like to see. So it says to have at least one way to filter and purify water gathered from outdoors. You want at least one, but everybody needs it at least two or three. You need to have more than one option. You can always go with boiling, but being able to filter it once it's cool down still helps. I mean, better safe than sorry. Kind of like the way migraises.
Starting point is 01:18:21 They boil, then they cool, then they filter. So, never hurts to be over-cautious, especially when it comes to your family's health. Okay, so this is a great tip. And this is something I've actually talked about with my husband and our friends is, learn to hook up a hose to your water heater so that you can use the water in emergency.
Starting point is 01:18:44 If you have an old water heater, of course, tip under here. I love that he puts this. It is a good idea to turn off the electric breaker or turn off the pilot like first. But if you have an old water heater, there is water still in that tank. And you can actually access that water. If you are in an emergency situation or a dire situation, you can get that water out of the tank. When the water came back on...
Starting point is 01:19:18 So I was saying if water comes back on to know how to repair your stuff. you know another thing though is if your power's going out or your water's going out you need to really look at your neighbors as well because if they're out you're out then you're definitely in trouble oh okay cool you gave me the link you know it's definitely something you want to think about
Starting point is 01:19:48 you want to make sure you're not jumping to conclusions but you don't want to leave yourself high and dry so you know here automatically power goes out tubs and sinks get filled up. If the tub was not clean before we filled it up, it is gray water. It is for everything else that we need to do, that we can boil out, that we can sanitize, wipe things down, that sort of thing. We do try to keep extra water put up or on hand. Now, whether or not we've used it, that's a whole other story.
Starting point is 01:20:18 All right. So, for those who are curious, I am looking here. A human body can go without food for three weeks, but typically can only last three to four days without water. Our human body is made up of at least 60% of water, an adult body. So water is vital to our survival, period. Right now we are in abundance of it. We have plenty of it fallen from the sky. It is nurturing and feeding the earth, and it is growing, and that's wonderful, and that's great.
Starting point is 01:21:07 But when the rainy season ends, what are you going to do? What are you going to have to fall back on to? Oh, okay. Good point, Highlander. Line your tub with trash bags or plastic liner. Or plastic. Okay. That is very smart.
Starting point is 01:21:27 That would actually give it some sort of boundary. I know there is when you can stick in your tub called a bob. Then you use the wastewater from the bay then to flush the toilet. A little known fact, we have the same amount of water since the beginning of time. It's just gets recycled elsewhere. Gotcha. You know, I like that migraise. So if you were taking a bath to bat or shower, use that water to flush the toilet.
Starting point is 01:21:56 So you're not using good vital water. I like that a lot. That is actually a great tip. I'm going to pull up this link real quick. they put in in the chat and a link for a 5 gallon portable outdoor solar heated
Starting point is 01:22:17 camping shower bag and it is only $12 and $2.2. That's actually not that. Have y'all used that before? I've never actually used one. So does it work pretty good? That's definitely one way of
Starting point is 01:22:35 that's pretty cool. All right. Let's see. Highlander migrate Have y'all used your shower? The issue with something like my system is once it fills up so much of it stops working because there's no... Oh, okay. I have used mine when my well pump went out. It works great. Okay, cool.
Starting point is 01:23:03 That's pretty cool. I may have to look into that. You know, hygiene, cleanliness is definitely something to consider and something to think about. So I was actually watching a video on YouTube. I was watching a few videos. I can't just watch one. I followed this lady who does Great Depression cooking, and I also listened to another prepper one,
Starting point is 01:23:28 where he even brought up the Great Depression. And it's funny because I actually knew... One of my teachers grew up during the Great Depression. Very old school, very great gentleman. Honest to God, I'm not sure if he's still around. If he is, I'd be impressed because he was much, much, much, older even in my days in high school before he had to retire due to his health he was a sweet man but sorry I didn't mean to ramo there but you know those people who
Starting point is 01:24:02 went through the Great Depression couldn't afford the extra electric bill that was an extra bill that they just couldn't afford to have you know families moved in together so there was no power little to no running water and these people were able to to make it work. And you think about it, if something like that were to happen today, there is no group unity. There is no love thy neighbor situation like there was back then where everybody helped everybody. It'll probably be more of every man for themselves.
Starting point is 01:24:40 But what they would do is especially within the heat of the summer and there was no air conditioning, no power. They would take a sheet, they would wet it, and they would hang it up on the door, so when a breeze blew, it would blow that cool air off that sheet into the house. And that's something that we don't think about is ways to cool down in the heat. So say we have water, say the power's gone out. That sheet can be used to hang open in front of a door, a window, anywhere you're going to achieve a breeze to cool the house off, because you've got to think about it. Being able to maintain your own body temperature to maintain your health and your family is going to be a top priority you know with the water situation yep lots camping but we find it easier fill with water
Starting point is 01:25:36 from the stove um also we have count water in foods like some stuff like oh exactly you know what great with point highlander um so when water is scarce you need to think about the water count in your foods exactly like Highlander said tomatoes oranges berries celery peppers watermelon apples all of these things are gonna have water in them grapes but you know that you've got to think about what you can actually grow that's gonna have enough moisture or honey-dew melons those are great ones
Starting point is 01:26:15 lots of liquid in there which can make up for your water not not completely but it can definitely help keep you well hydrated. Yeah, my great, I thought it was great. You know, listening and watching these, it goes to show you that if we were to hit another Great Depression or a situation like that, it makes you really worry about how things are going to go.
Starting point is 01:26:40 If people can rely on each other, that would be great. Did you know that those families during the Great Depression that didn't have electric, especially during the hot summers, would sleep in the truck if it had, If it was running, they would actually sleep outside. They would take whatever means possible to keep cool and maintain their family. They would learn different skill sets.
Starting point is 01:27:04 So it's, no, no. Like he says, heck, these kids have no survival skills at all. You're right. They really don't. And that's the scary part. Is it going to be every man for themselves instead of getting together? and these people were able to make it on minimum, just bare minimum. They, when there was no money on hand, someone would take their trade, their skill to a farmer,
Starting point is 01:27:33 hey, I will mend three-fifths fences for a dozen eggs, or, you know, that right there is a mill for your family. But on young kid, all right, hold on, I'm going to read this real quick. one young kid at work thought it was just weird I carried a lighter when I don't smoke in a flashlight and a multi-tool in a knife he actually was almost freaked out by
Starting point is 01:27:55 it I had barely have daily cope with skills you know Highlander you're right I've had someone ask me the same thing why do I carry a lighter though I don't smoke I carry a pocket knife
Starting point is 01:28:09 I do carry a multi-tool flashlights like you I have more than one way of starting a fire have matches and I have a fire starter but you know having that means to start in a fire or doing as simple something as simple as that is a big thing and i don't think people think about it on that level i always say kids today without a microwave and facebook would be lost to highlander i don't think that's too far from the truth i kind of like what i am liberty has done with removing social media and it's not that we're trying to lose our followers on our social media sites. I think it's more or less an aspect of
Starting point is 01:28:51 trying to bring real focus on what's important and less distraction on what's not. I'm not saying that social media can't be a good source to finding out what's going on, but a lot of times it's easy to get on social media and completely get distracted and lost from the main purpose. And I know we've all done it. I've sat there and been like, wow, I'm bored. I should go do something, but yet I sit there and continue scrolling. And it is not doing any good when I have so many things I could get done around here. You're right, it is a distraction from actual social skills. It really does take away the actual work of learning to read body language or learning the actual purpose of a conversation behind something other than a computer screen.
Starting point is 01:29:42 Oh, my gray says, my standard response for someone who questions my lighter, you sound a lot like a person that has never spent 26 hours stuck in a car during a snowstorm. You know, that kills me is the amount of people who don't keep just as something as an emergency blanket, a bottle of water, and nabs or something in the car. It just kills me the amount of people driving around and they could break down. and I always hear, well, I have a cell phone. Well, cell phones may not always be reliable. What if your battery's dead on both the car and the phone? What happens if there's no reception? You may have a working phone, but if it can't actually make a call, then it's no good.
Starting point is 01:30:32 Okay, I got off topic. You know what, let's take a quick break, and then we'll go back to it into talking about maybe a little rain and water. Maybe not. I feel like we can talk more on the Great Depression information than I can that right now. All right, let's, well, it looks like I only have one commercial. So we'll do the one commercial, and then we'll come back. Ryan Buford here, wanting to remind everyone that you can join us in the chat room while listening to the live recording of my show, The Next Generation.
Starting point is 01:31:02 It's a show that Bridges Parenting and Preparedness for you and your family. The Next Generation airs every Sunday at 3 p.m. Pacific, 6 p.m. Eastern Time. So go to PressperBroadcasting.com and be sure to check us out live every week where we explore the little things in life that make all the difference in the world. Okay. And because I only have one commercial on my phone, that is Ryan Buford. We do have Gunn, we have I Am Liberty with James Walton on Wednesday nights. We have Gun Metal Armory with Dane on Thursday nights. Fridays is open at the moment, me on Saturday nights, and Sunday with Ryan Buf. and his son Colin on the Next Generation show. Also, I don't have the commercial on here, but Miles from Archangel Dynamics, it will come on as a guest for the Gun Metal Armory.
Starting point is 01:31:57 He actually has some amazing and awesome medical stuff. So if you want to check them out at Archangel Dynamics.com, look them up, check them out. He could help you out in some of the needs and materials you need for your next emergency bag to get you where you need to go. All right. So, let's see, in the chat real quick. I pulled up my rainwater collection systems and, they are S-O-L, birds will have a feast. Got you. I think we're talking about kids today and the lack of skill sets. My gray, voice of experience, your wife's Easter dress can keep you warm in a pinch. Believe it or not, my gray. This is something a lot of people don't talk about, but tights.
Starting point is 01:32:43 When I used to be in the riding scene, a lot of older men who are motorcyclists would tell me tights. So they would actually buy a pair of tights and put them on underneath their thermals and riding those. And I will tell you, believe it or not, those tights will keep you warm in a pinch, especially when that cold air is cutting through during a winter ride. So it's nice to have something under your thermals because don't. Don't get me wrong, I like my thermals, but thermals won't always keep you warm. So something else that people don't think about. So say that water is an issue, and you are in the middle of the summer, you've got to remember the daytime temperature could fluctuate quite dramatically from the nighttime temperature.
Starting point is 01:33:29 So another way to help add just a little bit of water, I'm not going to say it's going to do a lot. You can do a condensation collection where you set up, you can, I've seen it done different ways where you can dig like a little hole, with a little bit of water in it, or even gather the condensation off the leaves. If you have to do that, that would be what I would consider an extreme situation where you really don't have any other option, but you can collect water that way. It is possible.
Starting point is 01:34:00 You know, you'll have the dew fall on the plants every morning before it gets really too hot to do anything. Let's see. I'm pulling out something real quick. Um, make sure I haven't lost anyone in my chat. So, in different ways that people like to collect water. A lot of people you'll see do off their roofs. Some people will do it off their sheds.
Starting point is 01:34:46 Some will use their actual spigots. Others will set up a system to where it will drain off and into a container. I've seen it done where people have done like the metal containers and let it drain into each that. and then have an overflow system into another container. It's going to be based on what's going to work for you. Knowing how much the average rain for your state can really make a huge difference. So the purpose of gathering rainwater would be if you're going to be in a potentially in a drought, if you are going to be in a situation where you need to collect.
Starting point is 01:35:31 for your garden, for your animals, if you're trying to save yourself water. Now, think of this, though, if you're going to do it off of one of your main drainage systems on the roof of your house, have some sort of filtering or blockage to keep as much leaf or debris out of it as possible. They'll make it easier to keep from having to filter it every so often as it gets down to your main containers. So think about this. water is heavy. Did you know that 264 gallons weighs as much as 2,204 pounds? That's why a five-gallon bucket full can be quite heavy. So it's something people don't consider is when you're carrying water or moving water, water is going to have quite a bit of weight to it. Oh wow, Highlander asked,
Starting point is 01:36:22 has anyone ever thought of putting a water tower on their property and having rainwater collector in it on it? That's pretty cool. I don't know. Schingles will have been shingles will have to be filtered because a lot of tar and junk will be in... Exactly. So filtering it off your house would not exactly be an ideal situation, but if you are in the situation where you need to, then you'll do what works. But also consider the fact that you need to have something to either filter out through the gutter some of the debris or have one of those covers on it where it doesn't clear. Now another thing you want to do is when you have a barrel concession set up, if you know you're going to be getting a lot of rain, you may want to actually set it up with the multi-system where as one container fills, the next one does, and then the third one or how many ever you have, have filters, screens, and what you need on top, and a spicket to access it. Because being able to access it in the easiest way possible is really going to be what helps you. A lot of the clients, selection systems I've seen, they have the spigot definitely at the lowest point, so they
Starting point is 01:37:34 don't have to worry about going below the lowest level and not being able to access it. So a big thing you want to consider, especially with these systems, is you want to be able to make sure you filter out the leaves and other debris with screens. Never leave any open-ins or a barrel uncovered because you're asking for insect and debris material to get into it. Also, you can use a first flush diverter to reduce contaminants and never drink untested, unfiltered water. Definitely look at filter in your water. You can still boil it.
Starting point is 01:38:12 I probably would just to be on the safe side. But install an overflow, that's what I was talking about, if you have them. You can also use a peak gravel to control the excess water. and then set up a seasonal maintenance and check kind of like with your bags. You wouldn't go every few months without checking your bags.
Starting point is 01:38:35 You definitely want to keep an eye on your water systems. So I read somewhere that you don't want to forget to drain your tank every three to five years. I imagine most people are going to be actively using it that that's not going to really be a problem. If you were trying to make,
Starting point is 01:38:53 there are different ways of making rain barrels. You can use the food safe grain containers you can do a PVC rain barrel where you use the outport as a PVC pipe itself with the spigot on there you can actually use a trash can and cut a hole in the lid and you put a large piece of mesh over it in which the lid will hold down that mesh so you can use it as a screen source you can still install a spigot and access it that way you can actually do if have a little more means you can do you can build a structure where it's up and the PVC pipe connects to the bottom of the rain barrels themselves in which you can
Starting point is 01:39:42 port them out to an open valve and that way you're actually using gravity in itself that is something you could also probably use the trash cans or the rain barrels Now a basic rain barrel would probably be some sort of just basic food grade safe barrel, keeping it basic. You want some sort of spicket as well as screening on the top. You wouldn't have to have very much skills on it. You could actually run a hose on it to drain it out or even use that to fill a secondary barrel so then any overflow. I have seen people use the drainage pipes from their house into a trash can,
Starting point is 01:40:21 which drains out from that one into another can or excess. runs out onto the ground. So it's, it's going to be what you need. Now, those are very basic. Hey, Melinda Lee. Nope, you're not late. I'm just slow to the punches. Let's see. I miss something in chat. Ooh, what did you see me? A picture of Highlander. The goal of a tower is to provide pressure via gravity. They are filled via pump. Oh, okay. That's why he said water to fill it would be neat. I would always say put a spicket at the bottom because you do not. want the water to stagnate if you do not get it all out exactly I agree with you what did you send me highlander I don't think that was the link you meant to send me I have no desire in these
Starting point is 01:41:14 fashion designer clothes what was that about okay uh so as you get into the bigger systems if anyone watches on Instagram you know what I'm afraid to actually click off on my phone because the last time it disconnected me. There was someone on there who was showing that he built, got a collection water tank, quite a large tank too and was insetting it into the ground. But you can see people using it with their own PVC pipe and gutter system to where they can flow to a bigger collection tape. So you really want to set up something that's going to fit the needs of,
Starting point is 01:42:02 fit your needs, whether it be for your family, your house, your critters, you know, what is going to be functional and reasonable for you? I'm not saying to go out and break the bank by any means. If you have to, use a food grade barrel, put a spigot at the bottom. This one I'm looking at is called the $15 rain barrel. I'll actually put the... I'm not sure what they put on it, but they put some sort of collection on top so it goes straight into the barrel and the barrel can be spigoted out. That's pretty interesting. Let's see. Yeah, Highlander, I was beginning to wonder about the fashion.
Starting point is 01:42:52 I'm not a high-end fashion kind of girl. I'm not saying that I don't like pretty things, but I do like that water tank. That's pretty neat. All right. Let's see, let's go back to that other site. We were thrown off. Highlander sent a link and it didn't go exactly to. to what he wanted, it sent us to a high-end fashion.
Starting point is 01:43:16 So, no judgment, man, no judgment. So having these pickets, you do want them at the lowest point possible because water can stagnate. At this one, this looks like a tiny home with a 275-gallon system. That's pretty neat. Again, fit it to your family's needs, your needs, whatever it may be. Start with something basic. Keep it simple.
Starting point is 01:43:42 go from there as soon as you see something's working you can really expand it i'm seeing so much done with a trash can if you're not in chat you're missing out on the link i just i just sent yeah some of these are as simple so so simple and some of these if you're not wanting your neighbors to really see it or see what's going on you can actually conceal it i like how they did this with a looks like an enclosed box they built around it just to make it look like a part of the yard. Someone did a collection system in their house with a bladder tank. I'm not saying that's not a good idea.
Starting point is 01:44:24 That's great in my house, though. That would be as risky as trying to bring in a waterbed. Something sharp is going to poke it. Let's see. Oh, they did this under a crawl space. Now that's pretty cool, and it'll keep it at a much cooler temperature. as well. So y'all in the chat definitely check out this link. This is pretty interesting. I like this. I will be saving this link myself. If I get my stuff typed up in time, I still need to
Starting point is 01:44:58 type up from when Carolyn and her husband, Joshua, on the show, they were so great and I feel so bad, but with everything going on, I've just gotten so far behind on everything. It's just been a bit chaotic. Life happens. I just need to suck it up, Buttercup, and keep going. Let's see. Ooh. Yeah, Migrae, maybe. Maybe.
Starting point is 01:45:34 Just checking out the chat, see if anyone has anything to put. I kind of feel like we've said what we can on water collection. We could go into water filtration itself, but I feel like water filtration could actually be a show in its own, you know, and flooding could be in a show in its own. So I am actually probably going to go back to Great Depression Talk, only because it's something you really, I've really been thinking about a lot lately. So, y'all, I'm going to probably say something that's going to crush all out. So I grew up in a home of a want-not, waste-not kind of home, right? I grew up pretty poor.
Starting point is 01:46:22 I'm not going to say that it was as awful as any, but it's definitely... Okay, sorry, I was reading the chat. I lost my turn and thought. I guess it wasn't important. Stink. Does anyone know where I was going? Because I totally lost it. I started reading the chat and forgot what I was saying.
Starting point is 01:47:02 Hmm. Well, that stinks. I felt like I was actually going somewhere with it. It must have not been too important if I was. I completely forgot it. They're talking about the water tower that Highlander put in there. It holds 100 gallons, and he's talking about using it as some sort of rainwater collection. I don't know if I still have that on there.
Starting point is 01:47:35 No, it wasn't a blonde moment. I just lost my train of thought and then got distracted and easy to do. I don't know where I was going. What was I talking about? You know what? It happens. It honestly happens. With everything going on, I've got my teepee pose in the ground for my climbing plants.
Starting point is 01:48:03 I hope I might have them in there far enough. I will actually probably tomorrow, after all this rain, push them down even further, especially since I know the soil has softened up. Yeah, my gray, I was looking at that. I have wondered, too, if it was only for a yard ornament, then an actual water tower. It looks like it's just for looks. Yeah, 10.53 inches. I'm not paying that much for it.
Starting point is 01:48:41 He likes that high-end house stuff. You know, that, that is pretty cool. That would be something neat to set up as some sort of water filtration like that. Highlander, you do that, and you let us know how that goes, because that would be interesting. So I know I was going to talk something on the Great Depression.
Starting point is 01:49:01 You know what? If you have a family member or a friend who lived during that time. Talk to them. Find out what they did for food and how they made stuff. I was watching one where the lady made sugar cookies. And she said only on
Starting point is 01:49:17 Sundays. When they had the stuff, they would make sugar cookies. It was literally sugar, flour, and egg. And the way she made it was just quite amazing. And something that was so interesting.
Starting point is 01:49:35 So Melinda says, I have rainbarrow barrels to keep water in the basement, a big burkey, and other collection methods. That is awesome. So I need you to come here and help me get myself set up. How's that? I mean, man, I still can't figure out what I was talking about. I know I was mentioned about growing up poor. Oh, I know what it was now. So I had a friend give me a bunch of canned goods and quite quite a few canned goods, actually. And some of those canned goods were several years. past expiration. I opened them up. Well, I didn't open them all up. I've opened a couple up, and I was cooking, smelled fine, taste it fine. I'm not recommending people do it, but we've been
Starting point is 01:50:27 eating them. I'm not going to say that's the healthiest thing to do. Oh, I like this little towers. I see what you're talking about, Highland. But in a pinch, the food is not gone bad. It's just gone past the desired expiration date, which can be a potential. The cans are not swollen. The cans do not have dents or any holes in them. There's no rust. So I'm not going to open a can that could potentially be hazardous to my family. If there's any sort of smell, film, or anything that would otherwise suggest, so I'm not going to feed it to my family. I do try everything that I open, especially since those were given to me, Beaver, and that I know have been in a very nice storage area.
Starting point is 01:51:07 Almost a majority of the cans were all actually won't expire for another two years or expire next year, which we'll go through them. But I did have a handful cans that were past the expiration by quite a few. Not quite a few, by at least four years.
Starting point is 01:51:24 I have checked them. I have opened them. Like I said, I taste anything that I opened and smelt before I give it to my family. I even did the same thing with baby food to my kids. Just because you never know. I don't want to blindly feed my family something that could potentially be hazardous, especially with smell or taste. So if it doesn't taste right to me, I'm not feeding it to my family. All right, see, my gray says we just finished a bottle of ketchup. That was best by 2015. Made a great
Starting point is 01:51:54 barbecue sauce. My great, we opened a can. I opened a can today. My family would have a fit if they knew that it said best by 2013. That's the lowest, a longest can I had in my, that was given to me. Couldn't tell a difference. The family tore it up. Of course, you know, we cooked it very, very well. Expiration days are usually a gimmick. Yeah, probably. I've seen a huge plastic
Starting point is 01:52:18 water collection containers. I've heard you don't need to winterize them. That is the problem with the smaller ones. I have to drain them in the late fall and winterized. Oh, I did not know that. Huh! Look, Melendalee, I'm not telling my family anything. If they don't
Starting point is 01:52:34 know when they can't tell, I'm not trying to. to poison, I'm just trying to make a meal. And the way I see it, my friend who gave me those cans was a godsend because it really helped out. I was able to rotate food that was in my current use status, back to storage status. And I am able to use cans in my current use status. storage and then everything else has been put to a hold so it's it's kind of nice to have something and it just pushes more food back to my food storage and then I can use what I was given to cook and eat with so it's nice to have food in the pantry I'm not let's see I'm reading the chat again okay you don't want the barrels to freeze your
Starting point is 01:53:45 actually is talking about winterizing. My Grace says my goal is to have a full pantry where everything can pull out is just past expiration. That means I have a year of canned goods. Highlander also if you store water and plastic containers, be careful because of BPAs for long-term storage. Get non-bPA storage containers. Good point. The last thing you want is any of the plastic or chemicals coming off of them and ingesting them. Not exactly desirable. Yeah, Having enough food put up for your family is a big deal. And for me, it's not so much that it's a big deal just to have the food put up, but it's a big deal because I can feed my family.
Starting point is 01:54:32 Does that make sense? Because in our house, we are actively using what is in storage as well. I'm not going to store something that I'm not able to cook or maintain. I did get two cans of, um, it was. It was white cheese restaurant style. I did open one, and it did not have a great taste. So I did chunk it. I'm not going to feed my family something that could potentially have been spoiled or not taste well.
Starting point is 01:55:04 See. Oh, wow. So Melinda says that I've been on the keto diet and almost everything I have stored I can't eat. My son eats it. But of course, I will eat it in an emergency. Exactly. I can understand that. I probably do have some.
Starting point is 01:55:23 food in the cabinet my family wouldn't necessarily eat, even though I would. But in an emergency situation, I don't think beggars can be choosers. In that essence, I do have plenty of beans. We do like beans. I eat spam, so I have plenty of spam in there. No one else really eats spam in my household, but I promise you if they're hungry enough, they're going to, I have rice, plenty of canned goods, plenty of tuna, smoked meats. that are been cured and shelf safe that are put up. It's just, I have to know that I can maintain my family's diet,
Starting point is 01:56:04 whether it be fruits, vegetables, grains, whatever. You know, that is something as if the power goes out tomorrow, I do have a cooking source outside. I do have my Dutch oven and set up. But if the power, if you were unable to get food from the store, store within a week. Say next weekend, for whatever reason, grocery stores quit getting food. People couldn't go to town. I like knowing that I have food put up for my family. I'm trying to constantly grow and maintain canned goods to keep things going. So, you know, food storage is
Starting point is 01:56:51 important, but water storage is important too. So consider it. I know that I'm not where I need to be with my water, and that is something I am well aware of, and I have to get fixed, and my husband and I have been discussing it. My friend who has the barrels has already given me several. Now it's just a matter of me taking the time, making a little bit of money on the side, if that means crocheting, sewing, spinning, yarn, you know, make a little extra money so I can buy any of the extra parts I need. to get it together, then that's what I need to do for my family, because your family is more important and your family is what comes first. Let's see, trotline hunting, growing. Forging. Oh, foraging. Yes, that's great, but I, I've got a book on wild edibles where it actually gives pictures of what it
Starting point is 01:57:45 looks like. I'm not saying I'm confident in it because it does say warning, do not eat or pick anything. You cannot positively identify. I might get there eventually. I like stainless steel for water starch, but it is expensive to buy enough stainless steel bottles for a large amount of water storage. You're right. I actually have found some 56 ounce stainless steel containers at sportsmen's not too long ago. They were marked down for like four bucks. I bought one. I should have bought several. I think they have more going on sale again. And I like having those in our emergency bags because they're durable. You can heat them up if you need to and they can hold water so you don't have to worry about plastic melting. What is this? My grace at me. I love mushrooms,
Starting point is 01:58:35 but wild mushrooms scare me. Highlander, I think I'm right there with you. I'm going to be very leery about mushrooms. because it is so easy to pick something that could potentially be lethal. Which, he sent a link. Wow. That is interesting. I have to really sit down and read it after the show. There are several that are nothing like them in the forest,
Starting point is 01:59:09 and now there are a lot of classes out there. Take a class and build your confidence. You know what? I would love to. I have not found any classes around here that offer that. Unfortunately, most of those sort of classes are. out of state and cost a little bit more than I can actually financially put out at the moment. But it does not mean I will not give it a shot sometime in the future.
Starting point is 01:59:32 Let's see what he sent real quick before we close up the show. Oh, okay, so those are some of the mushrooms you picked. That's pretty neat looking. Wow. Those are black trumpets, right? Is that like what I had looked at? That is pretty neat. Black trumpets.
Starting point is 02:00:02 Huh, cool. Check the little cooperative extension. Okay, I'll have to check that out. Well, that being said, I am going to close it out at an hour. I am yawning my head off probably a few more times than I should have in y'all's ears. I'm fighting a yawn right now. That being said, even with the rain, consider your water collection. like you would consider your food storage as well as your first aid in your emergency bags.
Starting point is 02:00:34 Those are things to think about. Water is just as important as food, if not more important. Like it says, you can go several weeks or a couple weeks without food, but you can only go a couple days without water. And dehydration is not a way I would want to go. But other than that, I really do hope everyone has a great weekend. Everybody has a great week. Have fun.
Starting point is 02:01:02 Check out Ryan's show tomorrow. And next week, for sure, will be a replay. I will not be doing a show that weekend. It is my husband's birthday, and I have promised him it will be his day. Actually, it will be him and his sister share a birthday on the weekend. So I will be busy. I hope everyone has a great weekend.
Starting point is 02:01:26 if you have any questions, suggestions, or topics you'd like to hear about. Shoot me in the email. Shoot me up on social media. Let me know, and I will get back to you. But other than that, have a great weekend. Have a great night. And take care, everyone. Thank you for listening to the Prepper Broadcasting Network,
Starting point is 02:02:17 where we promote self-reliance and independence. Tune in tomorrow for another great show and visit us at Prepperbroadcasting.com. Today's water omnibus is sponsored by the women-only inertmugs.com. Tactical drinkware, explosive style. They've been a friend of ours for a long time. They're now an efficient partner and distributive disaster coffee.com. I can tell you anything else about it. Inertmugs.com.
Starting point is 02:02:53 Get the coolest tumblers, coolest coffee mugs in the world, period. Explosive ordinance, dynamite, thermite, churonement. No fire, you name it. They got it wrapped on a tumbler. Inner mugs, not the top. Enjoy the water prep on with us. When will the water return? Richmond, Richmond, Richmond.
Starting point is 02:03:53 What? So, snow, you know, I want to see a great big man completely made of snow. We had some snow, and it was good. Nothing wrong. ice the whole nine yards a little bit of power outage it's something along those lines and then the people of richmond virginia wake to find out that the water system has failed and uh we had all kinds of problems all kinds of problems we have a new mayor who is like seven days in or something
Starting point is 02:04:25 10 days in i don't know what a rough situation he's right now um people are slowly getting water back on it it's affected like thousands of thousands of people. It's even taken counties around Richmond that typically depend on our water, and they've diverted use to other locations, right? Luckily, we never lost water. We lost some water pressure. It's very weird. It's a very strange setup because some people lost water that are close to us in our own neighborhood. Some people didn't, you know, very weird. I would say, what's up j ferg yep still no water for some people in richmond what happened let you were supposed to get water back yesterday an electrical panel failed at least that's the that's the word electrical
Starting point is 02:05:19 panel that everyone's using so an electrical panel failed and uh it affected the filling station and all that kind of stuff so now we're filling back up i talked to uh my own family that lives close by on the south side of Richmond and they have water today didn't have water yesterday. So something's happening. What I never thought about until doing this right now is elevation. I never thought about that. That's exactly why we had water all this time.
Starting point is 02:05:54 That's why we had water because we are at a low elevation. We are downhill and I have to imagine that makes sense. That's water sense, right? Truth be told, though, I mean, we were lucky in that we did have water. Truth be told, if we didn't have water, really wouldn't have been an issue. Really wouldn't have been an issue for us, to be honest.
Starting point is 02:06:23 It would have been pretty much a non-issue if we were in a situation where the water wasn't running. And this, what I want you guys to understand is this is not like because we have spent tens of thousands of dollars on water preparedness. We have spent very little money on water preparedness. Well, part of my water preparedness is also there's a creek back there that's flowing water. So, you know, that can be utilized. There are some things in the arsenal that are really effective. But really, in a situation like this, we're talking very short term.
Starting point is 02:07:02 We're talking, you know, five days at most, something. like this is going to take to clear up at most. Like there's a good chance everybody could be back to normal by the end of the day and then boil water notice is over by, I don't know, what, two days, 48 hours, something like that. Short term, right? Short term situation. This is a short term calamity.
Starting point is 02:07:26 People, and it's like I always write about it. I write, too. I don't just podcasts for those of you who are new. I always write about this when I'm writing blogs about, about, preparedness it's it is always a situation of people having people only having the realization they're screwed the moment they're screwed you know what i mean like the moment that they're screwed they go oh i'm screwed and i haven't done nothing to prepare for it so the backbone right now the backbone of our water preparedness that is getting us through this situation right
Starting point is 02:08:06 I mean, we could boil water. We have running tap water just for clarity, and we'd have all the drinking water we need. What's making it a little more convenient is the water storage, the simple, affordable water storage that takes up less than two square foot of our house. Okay. Sam's Club sells something like 40 bottles of water for four bucks. I know, don't drink out of plastic. your balls will fall off, your hair will fall out, right? We drink out of plastic, okay?
Starting point is 02:08:43 I know. It's insane. It's funny the things that we prioritize as a threat. In other words, like, spend $80 on a Stanley metal water thing that you'll use for one year and you'll stick in a cabinet and never use it again. Do you know how much water you could buy? Do you want me water? You could put up enough water bricks.
Starting point is 02:09:08 What are they like 30 bucks a pot to have 15, 20 gallons worth of water at your disposal at any time ready to drink, right? Whatever. Don't get me started. That's everybody's water preparedness plan. A stainless steel mug for mom. Everybody else is screwed, right? $100 on something to drink out of. But anyway, the things that we, what I'm getting at is we'll invest that.
Starting point is 02:09:36 kind of money and something silly like that. And then the tap water goes off and we go, I don't have anything to put in my Stanley. I don't know. I don't get it. The bulk of our response to this situation, though, has been, you know, like, I don't know, 20, 25 gallons of bottled water.
Starting point is 02:09:59 You know what I mean? Don't get me wrong. We've got bathtubs. We've got rain barrels. We've got other. I filled the hydroponic system up with water, even though it's offline just to have extra water. Water filtration and so on, you know, all that kind of stuff we have.
Starting point is 02:10:14 But it's just one of those situations where every Richmond there, every person living in Richmond, Virginia right now, if they went to Sam's Club, not now because everybody's going and freaking out, but if they regularly went to Sam's Club and bought five to six cases of bottled water, and kept that par at home. Just kept it at home. You know what I mean? Drink out of it here and there,
Starting point is 02:10:43 whatever you want to do. Keep it at home. Largely, I drink out of our Britta water filter, to be honest. But they're there. They get used. We use them. If every Richmander had that, this would be half the crisis that it is.
Starting point is 02:10:58 You know what I mean? So what we're talking, and from the financial side, they're $4. They're less than $4. are $4 with tax for a case of these water bottles, okay? I take them to Preper Camp. I sell them for a dollar each.
Starting point is 02:11:14 You know what I mean? I give them away. People like, oh, I don't have any cash. Take the water bottle. It's $3 for the whole case, right? That would largely solve everyone's problem. But there is such minimal focus. There is such a minimal investment.
Starting point is 02:11:31 So what we're talking about is $4 times six. We're talking about less than $25. you can put up. I think they're like four or something gallons per case, right? So six, you got 24 gallons of water. Family of four, that's six days worth of water. Come on, man. For 25 bucks.
Starting point is 02:11:52 It's a 25 buck investment. Like, you can't go nowhere and eat with a family for 25 bucks. There's almost nothing. You can't fill a gas tank with 25 bucks. So this thing is, what I'm getting at is, there's a lot of people to blame there's there's an investigation there's fail safes that shouldn't have failed there's all this talk about what happened what went wrong and look richmond's crazy it's a crazy place to live it's a very liberal place you know what i mean like we probably
Starting point is 02:12:24 spent more money taking down statues of robert e lee in 2020 than we did on maintenance of the water system i bet you if they could make the trade now the citizens of richmond the people who lived on Monument Avenue and so forth, would probably rather the statues stay up and the water system be ready to go. You know what I mean? Priorities. So we find ourselves in this situation. What I want to do now is I want to show you something, right?
Starting point is 02:12:59 I want to take you inside the cache and show you my number one water prep, number one, Numero Uno. There's nothing else in my R-SER. that is better than this one prep for water situations. You know, like these, but also much worse. Okay. So let's do it. Let's step inside the cash.
Starting point is 02:13:23 This guy's big. This guy is big. So I got a heft a little bit and pull this thing back. There we go. You see this thing looks like a suitcase? case, this is an amazing pressurized jerry can by a company called Hydro Blue. I bought this thing years ago, man. It's an amazing. So it's about four gallons of water. It's about four gallons of water. It's pressurized. The water inside gets pressurized by
Starting point is 02:14:00 depressing this over and over. And the water comes out of here. Okay. See that? The water comes out of this guy. There's also a tube and a spray valve that comes with it for using the pressure. Obviously, easy to carry. That's what I like about it most. I could take it right back to that creek, fill it up, water filtration. I've tested it on that creek water too. Here's the real winner. You get a virus filter right here. This unscrews and can easily be replaced. Then you get sort of the three-stage filament, you know, sort of run-of-the-mill top-quality water filtration right here. All right. And then this is your outflow.
Starting point is 02:14:51 So your water goes in under pressure, through the filter, through the virus filter, through the standard three-stage filter, and out to you. Okay. I'll either link to this thing in the show. and I'll probably also be making a clip about this. So this is number one, man. Because you can move water, you can filter water. It is what it is. It is the hydro blue.
Starting point is 02:15:23 It's got a little pain on it. It is the hydro blue pressurized jerry can. Nothing like it. There's nothing like it on the market. You know, the thing about water is you've got to be able to refill and you got to be able to, you got to be able to move it, right? You got to be able to move water from point A to point B. That's the problem everybody has now.
Starting point is 02:15:49 Even if there is a source of water, they've got to be able to move. It's got to be safe, okay? All right. Let's get the Richmond situation out of here. Because that is what it is, right? That sort of is what it is. People are going to do what they do, and they're in that sort of situation now. In all honesty, I hope it clears up, you know.
Starting point is 02:16:10 Fundamentally, I just hope it clears up. Another thing we're talking about, since we're talking a little bit of prepping basics, and something that I always lean on in crisis, food storage. Do you know that you have every capability to take rice, beans, so on, put them into mylar bags oxygen absorbers one gallon mylar bag 1,000 cc oxygen absorber into the bag heat seal the top with a hair straightener or heat sealer and you have long-term food storage now you do it one better you put it in protective you know a nice thick uh five gallon bucket to protect it from pests and breakage and things like that in storage
Starting point is 02:17:02 but everybody within the sound of my voice is capable of putting water up and putting food up. You know what I mean? Everybody is 100% capable of this. And again, these are not huge investments. And what you want to do is get your hands on the mylar bags in the oxygen absorbers, right? And there's a great combination kit from our sponsor, Pack Fresh USA. If you're watching on YouTube or Rumble, there's a link down below. It's the Pack Fresh USA giveaway, okay?
Starting point is 02:17:39 Follow that link. And when you make a purchase, you'll also be entered into a giveaway to get even more food storage goodies. Okay, buy anything. I don't care what it is and you're entered. Right. You can buy the smallest item there and you'll be entered to win. But you've got to go through that link. Okay.
Starting point is 02:17:56 So if you're watching on X, you may have to follow up on Rumble. or something along those lines. I guess I could pop the comment into X. I'll do a post about it for you guys. Jay Ferg says, where can I get a pressurized Jerry can?
Starting point is 02:18:16 They sell them everywhere. You can get it on Amazon. They sell it on Amazon. It's an awesome tool, man. It's awesome. I think it's like $100, $120, maybe something like that. It's a little bit of an investment.
Starting point is 02:18:28 But again, these things put you at ease. I can't tell you the value of the at ease over the last few days. With the snow coming in and everyone's freaking out because it's Richmond, Virginia. Then you got power outages and everyone's freaking out because it's cold. And then you got water outages and everyone's freaking out because they're thirsty. You know what I mean? And all that kind of stuff. It just, we've been doing this thing at the Prepper Broadcasting Network for a very long time.
Starting point is 02:18:58 And a lot of times we're trying to get people to prepare for big things. You know, like moments in history where water goes off and doesn't come back on. And sometimes I forget about the value of teaching people how simply they can weather these types of storms. Because these types of storms are the ones that kick your ass, right? You don't spend all your time day in and day out worrying about the apocalypse. If you're that kind of person, you'll watch. up doing a podcast on the prepper broadcasting. But most people just get beat to death by situations like this.
Starting point is 02:19:38 They get beat to death by the fact that, oh, we have a water outage, we have a power outage. And here I am. I don't have any power. I don't have any water. I don't have a generator. I don't have this. I don't have that.
Starting point is 02:19:49 And these are minimal investments, man. Minimal. You know, minimal investments. Now, with all that's going on here in Richmond, I haven't been paying as much attention to what's happening on the West Coast, maybe as I should be. Or maybe not. I mean, those fires won't touch me. I can promise you that.
Starting point is 02:20:12 But California is on fire. It's pretty impressive. What's not impressive at all? Let me see. I can bring our Twitter up. Because I know if I do, I'll be able to show you guys some video. So I can bring our Twitter up. What I can't understand, guys.
Starting point is 02:20:33 And again, this goes back to, like, talking about things like bugging out. Right? So we talk about bugging out, bugging out from the alien invasion. You know what I mean? But sometimes a bug out where you really gain, where you really make a difference in your life. Oh, God, that's funny. Right off the top. X is fun lately, man, but I'm looking for fires.
Starting point is 02:21:00 What, what, uh, oh no. See, this is what makes me angry. Are these dog owners, man. These dog owners drive me crazy. They put their, it's one thing to be an idiot and put yourself in harm's way, but it's another thing completely to put your animal in harm's way. So these guys, like I said, are, uh, where they're really blowing me way, so I have a lot of violence on my ex. I watch basically disaster stuff and then people
Starting point is 02:21:34 getting in fights. This guy here, perfect example. His whole war, he's in an inferno and he's got an N95 mask on and is deciding to leave now. Now, if this happened while they were sleeping, that's one thing. Maybe it did. It is nighttime. But what blows my mind is how many videos there are of people who are capital F fucked. You know what I mean? And because they were, for some reason, they were waiting around.
Starting point is 02:22:05 You know, I see, I got videos of people in broad daylight. Look at this. What is this? Everybody's putting out these crazy videos of flashing lights. Every video now has a flashing light in it. Look at this guy. Oh, same guy. But you see this kind of situation that they're fleeing here?
Starting point is 02:22:29 and I know these things move fast. The winds were moving at like, I think the winds were moving at 99 miles per hour. Jay Ferg said she saw the one of the two guys and the dog trapped in the house surrounded by fire. I wanted to kill those guys. I'm just kidding. No, it made me so mad.
Starting point is 02:22:50 It made me so mad because the dog's looking up at him and the dog's like, dude, what do we do? And these two guys are surrounded by a fire. Like I said, if they woke up, and that was what they woke up to that's a different thing but even then look if i go to bed and there is active wildfire stuff going on i'm out of there and look i see the houses these people are living it ain't like they're broke it ain't like they're like well i can't scrape up enough money to get to a motel for the night i can't drive due east for a few hours you know it's rough it is a nightmare though you look at it
Starting point is 02:23:33 there. It doesn't happen in a vacuum, by the way. End-wokeness is a great a great X channel to watch. Here, where they got the UFOs flying through the air. You can't trust that kind of stuff. Who the hell knows?
Starting point is 02:23:54 But yeah, man, terrible. But it's just a reminder, you know what I mean? Crystals are demonic. Then every once in a while you get one of these. What the hell are you talking about? Crystals are demonic. Every once in a while, you get the sort of the real dig into the real, like, why are we here?
Starting point is 02:24:22 You know what I mean? Why are we here? Why is this happening all the time? Prevailing thought is global warming, right? That's prevailing thought. I remember wildfires years ago, and we're all, you can look it up. I don't remember what year it was. It was quite a long time ago, so it's only gotten worse, but it was linked to homeless people out there living in encampments in the woods.
Starting point is 02:24:51 Fire got out of control, wind, you know, if you think that homeless populations and illegal immigrants who are seeking to survive in the woods, if you think that they're sitting there going like, is it a month we're allowed to burn? Are we allowed to burn this month or no? Like, they don't care. They got to boil water or they got to cook food. They don't know. They're survival out there.
Starting point is 02:25:15 And you wind up with these kind of situally. And, you know, the other thing is they won't, in California, they won't let the people in the forestry service manage the forest property. You can't touch the forest. This is my favorite thing. It's not my favorite thing because it's terrible what people are living through, but it's one of those things it's just so silly that it makes me
Starting point is 02:25:37 apoplectic, to be honest. You can't take out the dead wood because if you take out the dead wood, you're affecting the environment. You can't get out all the fallen wood and all this tinder that is surrounding these areas, right, and these breaks in the woods.
Starting point is 02:25:57 You can't do that. You know, a lot of do that's bad for the environment, right? Then the whole environment catches on fire and everything in there dies. It's not like, all right, we're going to clear some areas here, some distance, some space. We're going to clear out the dead way. We're going to clear out the tender so we can mitigate the fires to some degree, right? Can't do that. Then the whole world catches on fire.
Starting point is 02:26:27 Every squirrel, chipmunk, toad, precious turtle species. C's is incinerated. And we sit here and go like, oh, global warming. Yeah. That's it. That's what it was. I feel like the state of California will release such a massive sigh of relief when Gavin Newsom leaves. If there's a state of California left, we'll say the northern part, I guess, right?
Starting point is 02:26:59 I don't know. It's perilous, man. It's terrible. I cannot tell you how important it is to really get into prepping in 2025. If this is new to you, I know a lot of the listening audience, the podcast audience, you guys have been with us a long time. You guys are as prepared, if not more prepared than even the hosts. These types of things, evacuation, water crisis, these rolled down the backs of a lot of people
Starting point is 02:27:29 who've been with us for a long time. And, you know, it's a beautiful thing. It really is a beautiful thing. But if you really want to kick it into high gear and you're saying to yourself, you know, there's something to what these crazy-ass preppers are talking about, you've got to join PBNFamily.com. Seriously, even if you don't want to spend the money,
Starting point is 02:27:53 listen to the Prepper Broadcasting Network. You know, this is our bread and butter, man. This is what we talk about in all of our shows, to one degree or another. You know, we might be talking about, herbal medicine on our great show herbal medicine for preppers we might be talking about you know spinning fibers with j furg on phoenix survival we might be talking about firearms dedicated topics on the gunmetal armory it's it all varies man news you get the news blitz with the patriot power hour we have tremendous shows the matter of facts guys always do a great job carl b always does a tremendous job on the strange truth it's it's it's an outran dave
Starting point is 02:28:33 is the diamond in the rough. He's always popping his head in talking about great stuff. It really is kind of ground zero for preparedness. And you get multiple, what's great about PBN is you get multiple opinions. In other words, it's not the James Walton show. Do what I say because what I do is right. You know what I mean? There are people on the network do things completely different to me.
Starting point is 02:28:59 Which is great. That's exactly what I want. I don't know everything, man. I want to know more stuff, new stuff. So I'm always learning from the host. I'm always learning from the audience, you know. What you're seeing in the background here is our membership website. We have probably one of the most affordable memberships for now on the market.
Starting point is 02:29:25 I can't promise you it's going to stay this price forever. Because $60 for the year is a great. great deal. You know what I mean? Really, you could probably charge $60 for the items right here at the top of the page. You know what I mean? We've got the annual prepared this master schedule. This thing, if prepping is a struggle for you because you forget, because you're busy, this thing allows you to look at where you should be in the year. Water storage, food storage, you know, fire drills, all that kind of stuff. What have you done? What do you need to do? Outfitting a homestead with chickens, goats, gardens, whatever. Food storage, dry food storage right here.
Starting point is 02:30:12 Breaking down your five-gallon bucket food storage by calorie, huge. You can go to pvnfamily.com right now and get this incredible book for free. Nuclear war prepared, not scared. If you look at Ukraine in Russia and you get nervous, you start thinking like what happens when nuke start going, that's what you need. Now, the bulk of what we do at pbunfamily.com is on the members' content side, podcasts, videos, you know what I mean? And this is the kind of stuff we talk about. Hammer Talk is our blacksmithing show.
Starting point is 02:30:48 Great. We've got a great new guy, Firewolf Forge, doing awesome content for us. Urban and Suburban Recon, how well do you know your area? Iranian drone mothership war tests. War tests all. This is a really good podcast. It's a funny picture, but Intrepid Commander's bizarre top five preps. You know, they will blow your mind. They will blow your mind.
Starting point is 02:31:14 The Cubicle Escape Plan podcast is all about entrepreneurship. It's a great one, man. We got tons of stuff. I don't want to turn it into a commercial and infomercial, but it just is what it is. You know, the problem is when we find ourselves in a situation where thousands of probably millions now of Americans are suffering.
Starting point is 02:31:38 I don't know what else to say. You know what I mean? I'm trying to bring out my heaviest hitters, my best weapons. I'm trying to bring out my best weapons for you and say, look, this is how you deal with this stuff. You know what I mean? This is how you deal with it. That's the best I can do.
Starting point is 02:31:54 I can't show up at your house and wake you up in the middle of the night and say, hey, fill some things up with water. You know, or wake you up and say, hey, what are you going to do? when you get an alert that a fires nearby. What's your game plan? What do you have packed up and ready to go? Where are your important documents? Right?
Starting point is 02:32:13 So it's tough, man. It's hard not to be a little salesy, right? First of all, it pays the bills for us so we can keep doing shows like this. Every membership is fundamentally pays for the Prepper Broadcasting Network. Cubicle Escape Plan podcast. if you really want to break down on bugging out,
Starting point is 02:32:35 like if you have a game plan for bugging out, or you want to build a game plan for bugging out, like this series is a six hour long, six part series where I explore the bug out, I think better than anyone else. Really? Because it's an hour on each portion. What could go right,
Starting point is 02:32:56 what could go wrong, what you should do, what you shouldn't do, and all that kind of stuff. And it's not, I just think that not a lot of people take a six-hour look at the bug out. And I think the bug out requires. Everybody's individual bug out requires, like, at least a six-hour look.
Starting point is 02:33:16 You know what I mean? So we got courses. We got discounts for our members. We got some really great courses. 21st century home security. A must this day and age, man. A must this day. We've let the entirety of the world permeate our southern border now.
Starting point is 02:33:34 And we've got a whole new, you know, a whole new set of threats to concern ourselves with. So go to PBNFamily.com, sign up, become a member today. Make a $60 investment. And if you want to get started, just go here. Start your membership. Boom, you're in. But like I said, J. Ferg is making a binder. Binders are awesome.
Starting point is 02:33:58 binders are a reference one thing that preppers even preppers do that gets them in trouble is they become the holders of all information yeah if i'm out there and i'm on my own i know all the things i got all the skills if i drop dead five minutes into the collapse what does my family know what can they what can they refer like what is their reference you know what i mean a lot of people not prepared for that a lot of people really unprepared for that situation So all those things, you know, they all make a difference. Jay Ferg, I can't wait to see the binder. The binder is going to be topped here, I'm sure.
Starting point is 02:34:41 So, yeah, it is what it is, folks. Anxiety is real. You know what I mean? It's a real thing. It's a real thing. We're living through times that really test people. They really test people in a number of ways because we are more aware of events like these even when they don't affect us we get a we get a boots on the every american gets a boots on the
Starting point is 02:35:10 ground look at what people are dealing with in the palisades right now in on the west coast california that's emotionally hard to deal with you know this raises anxiety and then you have your own issues you know we're in the dead of winter god only knows what could happen we've got to put an end to wars we got like 2025 is going to be a doozy man the quickest way to relieving anxiety is prepping. It's just where we are right now. I don't think it's always been that way, but I can tell you right now, like, if you're overburdened by anxiety, you should work out.
Starting point is 02:35:49 You should definitely work out. You should throw some kettlebells around. We have a whole fitness section on our membership side, too, called prepper, fit, and health. Get involved. You should work out. And you should also start prepping. Bepping hard. Build and fortify your home so that you know in the worst case scenario, you can stay put. People are getting crazy in your neighborhood. People getting crazy in your neck of the woods.
Starting point is 02:36:18 Whatever the situation is, you can stay put, stay safe, be prepared. Your home is secure. You can eat. You can drink. Right? Extended duration. I'm just telling you from firsthand experience, there are things that I've done as a prepper. that have lifted immense anxiety off my plate. Food storage being one of them. Carrying a concealed weapon being another one of them. There are things that make a huge difference. When you're living in a world like the one we're living in. Get to it, folks.
Starting point is 02:36:52 Get to it. You come over to PBN. The other thing you'll be greeted by, you don't want to show you that right now? The other thing you'll be greeted by are our daily routines. So we're in our January daily routine. right now and these are designed just to keep you honest that's what they're for i don't know if this will show up or not i don't know if i can show you a file on stream yard or not but we'll try it
Starting point is 02:37:20 these daily routines man they're critical like if you're the type of person who's saying i want to get better at certain things i want to get in shape right slides and pdfs video file Let's see. Maybe I can. A window. There she is. So at the moment, we are going through our calm within chaos routine that separates days between day A and day B. And as you can see, there's a variety of things going on there, right? You've got fitness stuff. You've got faith and religion stuff.
Starting point is 02:38:06 You've got prepping stuff. And these are all daily practice. Dry fire. These are all daily practice things that you can do. You know what I mean? Because you have to do things daily in order to keep up with them, in order to get better at them. You can't say, I want to be better at shooting my weapon. So what I'm going to do is go to the range four times this year. It's not going to work, right?
Starting point is 02:38:36 I think I have to sign off. My security system is going off. And based on the howling, I don't know that they're going to calm down. Do you have an active, do you have an active furry security system like I do, four-legged? I think I've spoke my piece anyway, folks. Listen, you can watch YouTube videos. You can listen to other people, talk, prepping and stuff like that if you want. What we do here at PBN is get better.
Starting point is 02:39:09 We get better. You know what I mean? year over year uh Dave Jones sort of our sort of our wise man I guess he is now uh he has a saying and we all live by it and that's establish a position and improve upon it daily that's what these routines are all about I mean these routines are all about you know what I mean what do you want to do you want to do you want to limit the anxiety in your life in 2025 or do you want to wake up every day and look at the news and pant. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 02:39:44 What am I going to do? I know. You don't have to live like that, trust me. Trust me. It's not just me. It's me and many, many,
Starting point is 02:39:54 many other people. Oh, by the way, J. Ferg, if you're still with us, you got to look this up. This is a,
Starting point is 02:40:02 purely personal message right now. But if I have her ear, I'm going to take advantage of it. Apparently, Zuckerberg was putting AI profiles into Facebook, which kind of sounds like misleading the shareholders, right? Something along those lines. I think you get in trouble for that. Maybe I don't know. He's probably got a great legal team.
Starting point is 02:40:24 But apparently he's putting AI profiles into Facebook because Facebook's dead, you know what I mean? And one of the AI profiles, J. Ferg is a woman named Jane Austen. And I just thought that was so funny when I saw it that I had to let you know before I sign off. All right, folks, I'm going to get out of here. A quick word from our sponsors on the outro. I do appreciate you guys. It's been a great show. Thank you all for watching.
Starting point is 02:40:54 Like, subscribe, do all that stuff, you know. And to the podcast audience, man, you guys are number one. Starting point is 02:44:54 My name is Michael Quentin. and we are live on the air tonight on this humid and somewhat rainy Friday evening, depending on where you're at. Hey, as I mentioned the other day, the tropics are heating up. They're beginning to stir. If you check out the weather forecast, there's starting to be some movement in the tropics in the Caribbean. So, you know, public service announcement, make sure that you've got, that was a thunder clap.
Starting point is 02:45:18 Make sure you have your hurricane kits and bugout bags ready to go if you live in the southeastern the Caribbean. Well, this might be a short show tonight. I don't know. That was a heck of a thunder clap. I don't know if y'all picked that up on the air through my microphone or not, but it shook the house. So if I get knocked off or if I lose power, bear with me. I'll call in and we'll do the show through the telephone line. Yeah, that was a big bolt of lightning that just it. I think it popped something nearby. So anywho. So as I was, is saying make sure your hurricane kits and bugout bags are ready to go if you live in the southeast or the Caribbean you know tropics are starting to get ready hurricane season's coming for any of our

Starting point is 02:47:50 In fact, Dave, our NBC guy, tomorrow night. The show, he's at PreperCon, and he's going to be doing his show from the floor of PreparCon. That show starts at 8 p.m. tomorrow night, Saturday. That's Dave, the NBC guy. So, E.K., if you hear any alerts down there, put them in the chat room, because I can't hear the storm thing going off. So if I got to take shelter, because there's a tornado coming, let me know. I can't hear anything up here.
Starting point is 02:48:23 Ooh, I Am Liberty is going to be in PreparCon. That is awesome. That is awesome. I wish I could fly out there and do that kind of stuff. I think the nearest one to me would be Atlanta, and I just don't have the time or the money to go do it. Anywho, all right. Well, as you can tell from tonight's show,
Starting point is 02:48:43 its own rainwater harvesting, and dang, if it ain't storming outside, it is a perfect subway. Well, I know we've heard this all before, but water, water, everywhere and all the boards did shrink. Water, water everywhere, nor any a drop to drink. Quote by
Starting point is 02:48:59 Samuel Taylor Coleridge. As preppers, we know how vital water is to survival. We have the filters, the chemicals, the storage barrels, and most of us have a storage plan for drinking water. You know, what happens when you run out, though? Have you planned
Starting point is 02:49:14 on resupplying your water reserves? Now, if you're lucky enough to live near a creek or a lake or a, you know, a stream or something, or if you've got an artesian well, you know, that's great. But there's a lot of us out there that we don't have access to a water supply. Our only source of water is either what comes out of the city, what comes out of the well, or what comes off the roof.
Starting point is 02:49:38 And so tonight we're covering rainwater, harvesting rainwater, and we're going to discuss some of the tips and some of the issues that you might encounter. So some of you out there are going, well, why do this? You know, why should we even be concerned with catching and storing rainwater? well let's say you have a well and your well is on solar and so you're like I'm off grid man I've I've got a well I'm on solar I got no problem or if you're in a city and you're like you know we're in a small town I mean I've got a you know we're in a city of like 500 or a thousand people we've never had a problem for 99% of the idea of having potable water and when I say potable that means drinkable for those of you that don't know when I use the term potable water it's not like portable or put it in a pot it's like means you can drink it so when i say potable water that's what we're talking about uh for 99% of us you know the idea of having that at the tap is a given you know we just turn on the sink and it spits out water and the water's safe to drink and you may say
Starting point is 02:50:38 that you have you know a several gallon you know tank in the bottom maybe you have a 500 gallon tank out in the garage and it's treated clean water ready to go and you know you've you've taken the time and you filled up the water barrels and all your water's ready to go or you've got a swim and pool and that's all ready to go and that's all great what happens when you run out so for those of you that are just starting out there and starting your prepper journey or you're just new to prepping and you haven't got quitting on this and you've just kind of stumbled on my show and you know if you're a season prepper great but if you're a newbie you may not have considered the issues that may befall your water supply so those of us that have city water
Starting point is 02:51:19 we have the risk of a broken pipe or loss of power. So, you know, if the power goes out, your water is going to stop flowing because the dumps are going to stop. And water towers will run dry in a day or so. So even though if you're in the city, power goes out for whatever reason, your water is going to stop flowing in a couple of hours, maybe six hours, maybe 12 hours, but your water will stop flowing. Because the water tower is going to run out. The water tower is only designed to do an average load of the city for basically 12 hours. That's when I was looking by doing my research. That's kind of how they're specced out.
Starting point is 02:51:57 A water tower has enough water to do about 6 to 12 hours of water. So anyway. And then same thing if you're out in the country. You know, you've got your own private well. Well, you still have the problem for power loss. If the power goes out, your well doesn't pump. And if you have solar, then you're like, hey, I'm on solar. I got no problem or I got a generator.
Starting point is 02:52:18 What if your well goes dry? You know, even seasoned preppers that have a deep well on solar power still have the risk of the well going dry due to the aquifer being too low. You know, think about the droughts. You look at a drought monitor. Look at a drought monitor and look at a map of the aquifers in your area. And if your well isn't deep enough, you can still run out of water. What are you going to do? You know, you're off grid.
Starting point is 02:52:43 You've planned for everything, but you're pump right. runs dry or your well runs dry then what are you going to do you know here's a question for the group so for those of you in the chat room this is kind of your question tonight has anyone ever had arsenic or lead in their well water if anybody ever had water that they got tested and they found out that they had arsenic and lead in it I have we have no guarantee that the water coming from the city or our private well is safe you know I had a private well when I was in Florida and my well had some of the highest levels of lead and arsenic in the state at the time.
Starting point is 02:53:22 I mean, the scientist came out and went like, I'm surprised you're not dead yet. I don't know. Probably why I twitch now. Anyway, and just because you're on city water, you know, and you think you're protected by the Safe Drinking Water Act, you know, you're like, well, I'm on the city water. They treat all that kind of stuff. And it's all, you know, my water smells like chlorine and whatnot. Well, I got two words for you. Flint, Michigan.
Starting point is 02:53:47 And don't even get me started on radon gas that's been dissolved in the water. So you've got, you can have arsenic, you can have lead, you can have all kinds of other chemicals, you can have radon gas that's naturally occurring that dissolves into the aquifer, you know, that you can drink through. So there's all kinds of fun things that you can do to poison water or have water that's not pure. Now, is that going to happen to us? Probably not. But the risks are there. So the prepper reasons to harvest rainwater are broken pipes.
Starting point is 02:54:17 power loss, dry wells, and the lack control over the contents of the water. But here's another thing. Cost savings, man. What is the price of water? You ever turn on your sprinklers and water your yard or try to fill up a swimming pool? Man, it is an arm and a leg. So cost-saving stuff is another reason to do rainwater harvesting. So collecting rainwater can offset your water bill and or your power bill if you're on a well. and depending on your level of plumbing knowledge, you can actually pipe that water into your house and flush your toilets or run an irrigation system,
Starting point is 02:54:53 meaning it doesn't cost you anything to flush your toilet or water your garden or water your animals or maybe even take a shower depending on the clarity of it. Let's quick look through the chat room here. No water tower comes from pumps in the village. Yes, if there's a, if your city doesn't, doesn't have a water tower and just the pumps when the pumps fail your water's pretty much immediately off water system gets fine for not meeting specs you know
Starting point is 02:55:23 worse yet yeah flying Dutchman's got it a leak between you and the street that you don't know of man your water bill goes sky high for that one so anyway so those are some of the reasons why we should harvest rainwater those are some of the ideas to think about so let's look at some of the components of the system now this is really simple. So these things can be as simple or as complex as you desire. It can be as easy as just diverting the gutter into a barrel or complex pipes and levees and switches and all kinds of other stuff. Literally you can make it as complex or as simple as you want. So, um, ale prepping says one half inch of rain on a roof covering a thousand square feet should yield about
Starting point is 02:56:12 60 gallons of hour. And I think that's about right. I think I can fill up one of my barrels in a good rainstorm pretty quick. In fact, I've got a barrel out back right now that's probably overflowing with the rain we're getting because the rain's loud enough. I can hear it. I don't know if y'all
Starting point is 02:56:28 are picking it up or not, but there's like a background hum. Sounds like a really high air conditioner's on high. So it's raining so much. So I'm probably flooding my backyard right now because I haven't gone out and unhooked. my rain gutters from my rain barrel system. So I'm sure they're all full and they're making
Starting point is 02:56:47 quite a mess out there. But anyway, parts of the system. So your basics are your catchment surface, which means your roof, you're ducting, your piping in a storage tank. That's all you need to do this. So first off in the process is the catchment surfaces. Catchment surface. That means your roof. Most of us, myself included, we have asphalt shingles. You know, others have metal roofs. They have plastic roofs, they have all kinds of stuff, but either way, the ideal thing is to have a large surface for the rain to fall on. So if you've got a house or you've even got a detached garage and it's already got gutters and downspouts, man, you are already halfway there. That's an excellent start. Some people actually build storage areas to catch the rain. So think about
Starting point is 02:57:31 woodshed. You know, you've got a pole barn or a woodshed, and you've built it up and it's got a tin roof, and you're just doing it to keep the rain off your firewood or the rain off. your truck or your tractor or mower or whatever man just add a gutter to the side of it and a downspout and you're golden barn roof yeah there you go L prepping says you know you put it on a barn roof any surface that it's going to rain on that you can actually collect that water you know that's it but we have a very large surface area to catch the rain you know we have a really big roof and a really big you know whatever and we're getting you know really really nice that when it's rains we get tons of water well what about dirt and poop believe it or not your
Starting point is 02:58:17 roof is covered with dust and pollen and mold spores and bird poop and whatever else the chemtrails decided to deposit on your roof and so then there's also the issue of the small pieces of asphalt come off anybody ever get that you know it rains real hard and you got in your driveway and you can see it looks like a half of your roof shed out into the driveway and there's a you know either whatever color your roof is out in the driveway and it's covering everything or whatnot anyway maybe y'all don't have that problem but i do so there's the small pieces of asphalt there's also toxic chemicals so this goes for metal roofs plastic cedar shake tar tpo epbdv epitm pvc and asphalt shingles
Starting point is 02:59:04 guess what folks they all leech chemicals every one of these leeches copper zinc arsenic lead and cadmium you know really good mix to be ingesting and it's to give you an idea uh washington state department of ecology conducted a test in the puget sound area and yeah j fregy everything is toxic you touch it you die but uh washington department of ecologically found that approximately 88 percent of the zinc 60% of the cadmium, 20% of the arsenic, and 10% of the copper that was released within Puget Sound were associated with roof runoff. So because nobody, you know, nobody thinks of that. They put up the roof and it's designed to not mold. It's designed to, you know, to last for many, many years. And there's all kinds of preservatives in that. So, you know, what do we do? Well, the best idea is to have a greenhouse.
Starting point is 02:59:57 If you've got a greenhouse with glass panels, not the plastic, but the glass, that's your best option. because, of course, the glass doesn't contribute any chemicals. Now, you still have to deal with the dirt and the poop and the pollen, but at least you don't have the arsenic or the lead, that kind of thing. And that leads us to the next part of our system, and that is the gutters, the downspouts, the ducting, the piping, and possibly some pre-filtering. If you have the option of adding a leaf screen or first flush diverters,
Starting point is 03:00:30 that's hard to say, if you can add those two things to your gutter system, Do it. Please do it. A first flush diverter. What that's great for is you can set it so that all the particles and the dirt and basically like the first few minutes of rain get diverted away from your tanks. And then after the roof has been rinsed off, the system switches and the water goes into your into your tanks. If I remember, well, there's also filtering and purifying. We'll get into that a little bit later. But, you know, basically what you want to do is the more dirt and particles and stuff that you can keep out of the water before it goes into your storage tanks, the better, and the less you have to worry about. And the easier it will be to filter and purify the water after the fact. You know, if y'all remember on my show about water filters, I talk about turbidity filtering and purifying, and these are all different but equally important things. So, and it may benefit you to go back and re-listen to that show for some pointers is my show on water.
Starting point is 03:01:33 filters. I talk about the black burkey elements and use water distance and those they will remove a lot of the camera we're talking about about here. Well that roof. Okay folks G-man here and we just lost Michael Klein. Can you guys hear me in the chat room okay? Give me a thumbs up. Let me know if you can hear me. Come on, guys. All right, all right. We've got sound. Okay, we're going to go ahead and take a quick commercial break while we hopefully get Michael back with reality checks. So hang on, folks. Let's hear a couple of ads, and we'll be right back. Well, hopefully we're back now. Apparently we lost our satellite in Singapore, so we're having to route the connection
Starting point is 03:04:59 through plain old phone lines and whatnot. So I'll back up a little bit. So as I was saying, if you have a greenhouse with glass panels, that's going to be your best option. and you still have to deal with the dirt and the poop, but at least you don't have to deal with the arsenic or the lead if you've got, you know, glass surface. And even if you had, like, cold frames, that idea just came to me.
Starting point is 03:05:22 If, you know, if you've got cold frames, you've got spare glass panels that you can make, you know, if you could just put that and have that go into a downspout, that, you know, that would be an idea. At least then you're not getting all the chemicals that are leaching from all the other materials. So what I was talking about, depending on where I broke up.
Starting point is 03:05:41 And I was talking about adding a leaf screen or a first flush diverter to your gutter system. And if you have that or if you can do that, then do it because these are great. You want to keep as much particles and dirt out of the water before it gets to your storage system. Because later on, if you're going to be filtering it and purifying it, the bigger the particles
Starting point is 03:06:02 clog up your filter faster. So if you can have pre-filters in a way, especially like a first flush diverter, then that's less you've got to worry about later on. And as I was saying, I think when I was really starting to break up is that if you want to, go back and listen to my show on water filters
Starting point is 03:06:20 because I talk about using the black burkey elements. I talk about using distillation, and that can help you remove a lot of the chemicals. So like arsenic and the lead, I know those burkey elements will actually remove that out. So if you're going to be using four, if you're actually going to be using the rainwater, for drinking, something to think about.
Starting point is 03:06:41 And then I was talking about, they had this idea where you can plant moss on your roof, especially if you're up in the northwest. You have your roof. If it's a flat roof or a near flat roof, you put down moss on top of a French drain, and the moss acts as a filter to filter out a lot of the pollen and whatnot, and then the water goes down to the French drain, and then you can collect that. So for those of you that are interested in that, or if you want to see a picture of it, The website is called mossacres.com, M-O-S-S-A-C-R-E-S-C-R-E-S-C-C-R-E-S.
Starting point is 03:07:14 That's their website. You can go on there and you can poke around, you can see what I'm talking about. If you live in the Northwest or if you lived in an area where it's not hot all the time, that may be a pretty cool one. So anyway, all right. Well, we have our catchment surface, which is the roof. We have our gutters, we have our leaf filters and our downspouts, and we've brought all the water down to a central point.
Starting point is 03:07:37 Well, this is where we need the first flush diverter or a roof washer installed. And what those are is basically the first few gallons of water need to be diverted out in your art. Because I'm saying, you know, your roof is covered in pollen and dirt and Lord knows what. And when it starts raining, the first five or ten minutes, maybe even 15 minutes of a rainstorm, all of that dirt and debris are going to be washed down roof. and that water needs to be discarded. And so for a long time for myself, I had the downspout running directly into the rain barrel.
Starting point is 03:08:14 And I had a screen to filter out leaves and twigs and roofing grit and, you know, something to keep the mosquito larvae out, but the pollen and the dissolved bird poop would go into the barrel. And this water is fine for gardening and flowers, but you don't want to drink it because there is a very thick layer of yellow slime that would form around the top of the barrel during pollen. season. And one time I was sitting there, it was like, what is this mold growing in my barrel? And then all of a sudden it occurred to me that, oh, yeah, that's pollen that has rinsed off the roof and it's
Starting point is 03:08:48 collected because I don't have anything to, I don't have a first flush diverter. Well, I didn't at the time have a first flush diverter. So similar to the first hour of rains. Yeah, basically, a ale prepping says, in the chat room, he says, it's similar to the first half hour of a rainstorm on roads. You know, you have the oil, the grit, and all the pollen on the road, and the first few minutes of it raining, it has to wash all out off, and then, you know, the next 30, 40 minutes it's good water. And so if you've got a light, gentle rain, you know, it may take 10 minutes to wash a good, you know, a gentle rain. It may take 10 minutes and more to wash all that off, but if that rain's going to go on for a few hours, and that's a lot of good water. And as he said
Starting point is 03:09:32 earlier in the thing, you know, a thousand square foot roof can fill a barrel in about, in about an hour or so. If you plan to use your rainwater for irrigation or flushing toilets and not as a potable water source, then you're pretty much all set at this point. You know, you may want to include a sand filter of some sorts of the water comes in, or you may have one barrel that all the junk goes into, and then that fills other barrels. and that's where you put your filters at so that, you know, the one barrel can handle the large quantities of water coming down the downspout, but then it slowly filters out into your other barrels so that you have to clean water. Anyway, if you filter out the large particles that are going to clog the system, that's going to be fine for irrigation, gardening, gray water applications that have said, you know, you could flush your toilets with these.
Starting point is 03:10:27 You can possibly shave, I mean, shave, well, I guess you could shave, but you could possibly shower, but you could possibly shower, and bathe with this water because you're not ingesting it. For me, though, if I'm going to plan to use the water for potable water purposes, that I'm going to add more filtration. So I'm going to add a sand filter to do out the particles. I'm going to add a charcoal filter to filter out VOCs. I'm going to either treat it with chlorine, or I'm going to run it through the burkey, or if you've got power, you know, run it through a UV system.
Starting point is 03:10:57 You know, there's something to get the pathogens out. So we've got our water, and we've got it semi-filtered, and, you know, the water's coming in like it's supposed to and all that kind of good stuff. Well, now, how are we going to store it? So for those of you in the chat room, I'm going to go ahead and give you this one as I switch hands because now I'm one-handed. We need a way to store it. So I myself, I have black gurkin barrels. That means pickle barrel. So a gurkin is a small pickle in other countries, but we can say a pickle barrel or black,
Starting point is 03:11:31 Olive barrel. I mean, some people, you know, they ship olives in them, but in the dirken barrel is what I got. I get them in a hometown, and I bring them back up to where I live. But Lexington Container Company is a really good place to start with. So those of you that are listening internationally or those of you that are not in the chat on the podcast, the website is Lexington Container Company.com. That's all one word. They're in Lexington, Kentucky. And if you want to order a barrel, those are the people to have it. I mean, they've got everything in the world that you can think of.
Starting point is 03:11:59 But really, any plastic, scroll down too far, hard to do this one-handed, hold the phone and do this kind of stuff. Any food-grade barrel is going to work. So as long as it's dark and its food-grade, it's going to work. So it's either got to be painted dark or it's got to be naturally dark. And the reason why is you want to block the sunlight to prevent algae growth. So even the blue water barrels that we see, everybody has the 55-gallon water barrels that are blue. blue, those will let enough sunlight in that algae is going to grow. Yeah, Flying Duxman just pushed it a link in the chat room for a flush
Starting point is 03:12:41 diverter that's from, what is that, mammoth shopper? I guess that's it. Anyway, if you just Google First Flush Diverter, you'll get it. But it looks like Mammoth Shopper is the website. I'm guessing that's the ones he used, and I trust him exclusively. If he used a product, if Flying Dutchman's used a product, I trust it. Anyway, you want to make sure your barrels are black or you want to paint them black because you don't want sunlight to penetrate it.
Starting point is 03:13:09 And also, as an added bonus, I found this out. These things work as great water heater. So I've got a 55-gallon gherom barrel that's flat black, and the water invader will get to 90-plus degrees in two or three days of full sun. and, you know, there's, it really only takes a couple of days, and that water in that barrel gets warm enough. You really can take a bath with it. You know, you could take a shower, you could take a spit bath with it or whatever,
Starting point is 03:13:37 but, you know, black barrels are great because they can water stuff, but they can also really good as a water heater. And speaking of the sun, the sun's UV rays are going to weaken your plastic barrels. So if you've got plastic outside and it's painted or whatnot, you need to make sure that the plastic is not affected by UV rays or not, you know, not as affected or maybe is covered. Because if it's in full sun and you don't intend to use it as a water heater, sometimes that plastic can degrade. Now, mine is really thick, so I don't worry about it because the plastic on mine is literally like a quarter of inch thick. But another reason, flying dust has been just posted, is that the water can evaporate. You know, it's going to get warm, it's going to get hot, that water can evaporate off.
Starting point is 03:14:28 Not a lot of it, but it's still going to do it. So, you know, just something to think about either a barrier tank or put it under some kind of cover so that it's not indirect sun. Anybody in chat have a cistern? So anybody remember your grandparents having a cistern or do you yourself have a cistern? You know, these things were usually buried water tanks. So everybody remembers, I don't know if everybody remembers a cistern, but a lot of times in the old houses built in back, you know, 30s, 40s, maybe even in the 50s, these things were made of concrete or brick, and they would sit on the side of the house,
Starting point is 03:15:03 and they would be buried, and usually there was like a lid, and all the, yeah, I wish to, all of the downspouts ran into this one tank. My grandmother used to have one of these, and, man, she used to beat me senseless, because I would take the lid off the thing and jump in to cool off during the day. You know, I lived in Florida. It's hot and humid in Florida, and you jump in that thing. It's dark. It's in the ground.
Starting point is 03:15:31 You know, the water stays relatively 20 degrees cooler than the outside. I mean, it was nice, but, yes, you used to always get on that. And that was always fun to jump into unless there had been a drought. So if it hadn't rained in about two weeks, that was always fun to jump into a thousand-gallon empty tank. It was a few feet too tall for me to climb out of. You know, you jump down in there, and it's like, crap, you land in two feet of water. You hurt yourself because the water doesn't break your fall,
Starting point is 03:16:05 and then you're in a very deep, dark tank that you can't climb out of. So anyway, just a... remembrance on my thing. Oh, one other thing to remember. When you bury a tank, if you're actually looking to bury metal or plastic tanks, you know, that's really great. But just remember that the soil does expand and contract. And so it can crack a tank that's not going to have to be buried.
Starting point is 03:16:31 So usually if you're going to bury a tank, you need to buy it. And they're also more expensive. So above ground tanks. Your blue 55-gallon barrel tank is really not designed to be buried. So just be careful. Another thing with storage tanks, if you're burying them in the ground, those things will float. So if your tank is empty or near empty and you've got a really high water table, that thing will arise.
Starting point is 03:17:04 You know, you think caskets and a flood kind of thing. The same thing. Those tanks will float if they're not careful. So, FYI on that one. Let's see. As far as tanks, it doesn't really matter the material. It's kind of whatever works best for you. So pretty much everybody says, you know, the plastic food bag barrels.
Starting point is 03:17:25 You can do brick, you can do metal, you can do wood, you can do fiberglass, you can do concrete. What other than that's present is you need to research what material works best. You know, we see New York and Chicago, and we see all the wooden water tanks on top of the buildings. You don't see that in Florida. You don't see that in Texas. You know, if you're in the northwest, you've got cedar shakes. If you're in the southwest, you may opt for metal. Research with your local agricultural office, or call your local extension office and ask them,
Starting point is 03:18:00 and they may even help you to be able to design an optimal system. So you may want to say, hey, I want to collect rainwater, and they may go, I hope I'm not breaking up again. The phone's still got good battery. Oh, let me move around and we can go, can you hear me now? So that's the joy of having a cell phone. All right, well, anyway, as I was saying, you know, it doesn't matter what your tank is made out of,
Starting point is 03:18:31 what your storage tank is going to be made out of, but, you know, just reach out to some of the people that design those systems or reach out to your extension office and ask them, because they may be able to help you design an optimal system, they may be able to help you navigate laws and all kinds of good stuff. So, anyway, another thing to think about is weight. So a gallon of water weighs eight pounds. A 55-gallon barrel is going to weigh about 440 pounds,
Starting point is 03:18:57 and a 1,500-gallon tank is going to weigh well over 12,000 pounds. So when you're storing your water and you're building your tanks, be careful where you're putting them and what you're building them on. You know, if you're doing on a deck or a porch, make sure that port or deck can hold the weight. And make sure your barrel can be cleaned. So once or twice a year, what I do is I drain my water barrels, and I scrub them down. I take a light bleat solution, and I spray it in there, and I just take a scrub brush, and I knock all the sludge off the side and spray it out just to make sure that it's clean and whatnot.
Starting point is 03:19:33 Let's see here. I talked about the filtering. you know, if you're going to be used the water for potable uses, make sure that you put a little bit more effort into the filtration, make sure, you know, you've got the sand filters, charcoal filters, make sure you can remove the VOC
Starting point is 03:19:50 that's volatile organic chemicals. You know, all that kind of good stuff. Like I said, you know, the Berkey does a real good job. But anyway, one thing you can think about is when you get your rainwater collected is take a sample of it send it off and get it tested. You know, see what's actually in that water.
Starting point is 03:20:08 When it comes off the roof and goes into the barrel, it may be as clean as it needs to be that you can drink it right then and there, no problem. Or it could kill an elephant. You never know. So that's an idea, is to test your rainwater. All right, so let's say you're not going to collect rain from your roof. Let's say that you're, for whatever reason,
Starting point is 03:20:32 you don't want to do harvesting the rainwater. You don't want to put it in barrels. You know, maybe you live somewhere where you can't do that or, you know, whatever reason. But you can't save the water in a barrel next to your house. Well, what about a rain garden or an Earthworks project? So a rain garden is an artificial depression in the landscape that collects and stores stormwater. And basically, it kind of pools up and it holds the water longer so that it gives time to soak. into the ground. I actually took the break at the bottom of the hour, so we're not taking a break,
Starting point is 03:21:09 UK. Thank you, though. Appreciate that. Normally, a rain garden is used to prevent flooding and erosion because it allows the water to be absorbed more slowly. You know, all the water runs into a depression, and then it sits there and then slowly goes back down. I'm not going to comment on that one, Jay Fergie. basically you're going to be using the land to make swells and ditches and berms and you're collecting the rainwater more or less you're making a swamp so think about it you're making a very small personal swamp in your backyard and after a few days or you know many many hours the water goes away
Starting point is 03:21:49 but when it rains it fills up and it makes a small pond you know a temporary there you go make a small pond a rain garden is not a pond but it's like a pond in that, you know, it's going to fill up, it's going to look like it, but then it's going to drain away in a few hours to a few days. What you can do, though, is that you can put water-loving plants and rocks and water features and even some of your garden plants around this. So, you know, if you've got plants that can take water, take a lot of water, but then, you know, need to have the water drained away,
Starting point is 03:22:28 a rain garden might be a method for doing that. And if nothing else, you know, it can slow down the runoff and it can make better use of the rain that has fallen. So I see some people in the chat room are saying, you know, you can make ponds. Some people did their rain gardens and whatnot. Yeah, anyway. All right.
Starting point is 03:22:50 I need to go to my next topic. Oh, Lord. All right. Know your laws and regulations. So, as I was saying, you know, if you can't catch the water and put it in the barrel, maybe you want to do a rain garden, or maybe you want to build a pond. Well, if you're going to build a rain garden, if you're going to build a pond, you need to know the local laws and regulations.
Starting point is 03:23:12 So I don't know about our international listeners that for those of us listening in the Ukraine and Germany and Chile and Russia, we appreciate y'all, and I don't know how the laws work over there. But here in the United States, we have to worry about city governments, state government, county, building codes, HOA bylaws, we have all kinds of good stuff. Each state is different, and what may be legal in the state may not actually be legal in your county or parish. What is legal in your city may not be legal by your HOA laws. So do your homework. You know, if you live in Colorado, Texas, or Ohio, you really need to do your homework because those states have got some rainwater harvesting laws.
Starting point is 03:23:55 And so there's a really great site to start with. And I'm going to post this in the chat. And as I'm posting this, I'm hearing my cell phone battery flipping out because it's got a low battery. So if I lose y'all, we will make it happen. But anyway, so there's a link for you. So for those of you that are interested in doing this and you want to check the laws, there is a website. And the website, for those of them on the podcast, is ncsl.org, Novembercharlie Sierra Leema.
Starting point is 03:24:24 and it's ncl.org slash research slash environment and natural resources slash rainwater harvesting or you can just search rainwater harvesting laws and you're going to get about the same thing but anyway the moral of story is do your homework if you're going to harvest rainwater
Starting point is 03:24:40 if you're going to build something you know an earthworks project look it up because you don't want to do all that kind of stuff and get into it and have the perfect thing and then all of a sudden the police or whatever show up and And, you know, the last hurdle and the biggest thing to worry about is the nosy neighbor. You know, the dreaded nosy neighbor and the EPA.
Starting point is 03:25:01 So you've done your research. You filed the paperwork with the local government. You've done everything that you need to do as far as the government. All the paperwork is signed, everybody's happy. But your neighbor doesn't like what you're doing. They make a phone call, and now all of a sudden your work is halted, and you might be fined. So, you know, as they say, fences make good neighbors. If no knows what knows what you're doing,
Starting point is 03:25:24 no one knows why you're doing it, then all the better. So one last thing to think about, and I'm getting towards the end because, like I said, my battery is going low. Hadn't planned on having to use the backup phone, but, you know, thunderstorm and the Internet doesn't play nice. So think about curb appeal. So when you're building your rain catchment system, unless it's completely, you know, hidden from the public,
Starting point is 03:25:45 make sure that your stuff is painted. Make sure it looks nice. Make sure that it looks decent so that your downspouts, you're piping, your barrels, don't draw attention to your system. If you've got a neighbor, a nosy neighbor, she or he doesn't take notice of it. If the EPA is out driving around,
Starting point is 03:26:05 making sure that they don't take notice. Yeah, exactly. Jay Fergie in the chat room says, classy, not trashy. That's exactly right. Make sure that it looks decent. you know, because a visit from the EPA can ruin your day. And if you really want to have a thing to research,
Starting point is 03:26:22 look up Andy Johnson or Joseph Robertson and how they were basically sued for violating the Clean Water Act. You know, that's all kinds of good stuff with that one. So that's basically what I've got to go off is, you know, if you've got your catchment system, make sure that it's clean, make sure that your piping is all going down, make sure you're filtering your water coming off the roof, make sure that it looks good, make sure that the storage barrel that you've got is appropriate for your area and that it's clean.
Starting point is 03:26:52 Make sure you can clean it out. If you are going to use the rainwater to drink, make sure you filter it and purify it correctly. Otherwise, you know, use it in the garden. I use all my rainwater in the garden. Mine's all gravity fed, but I just turn mine on and it goes and gravity feeds the garden and whatnot. And it looks, you know, looks pretty decent from the back. My neighbors behind me can see the system, but all they see is just a black barrel sitting on the ground. They don't see, you know, hoses and pipes and all kinds of other stuff.
Starting point is 03:27:22 And if I did have PVC pipes and stuff, everything, you know, I would paint it so that it didn't stick out. And as Jay Fergie says, nosy-rosy is always a problem. Maybe not today, but possibly tomorrow. And that's true. All righty. Well, I am at the end of it. my battery is going low and my internet is out and we are having some technical difficulties trying to get into blog talk.
Starting point is 03:27:49 So, yeah, unfortunately I've come to the end of it. This is a short show. So question for the chat room. Does anybody right now currently collect rainwater? So for those of you in the chat, do you collect rainwater? And if you do, how do you use it and how do you like it? What are some tips or tricks you would have that you would have people that do have rainwater do. So this is opportunity for the chat room to do the thing. I see one thing
Starting point is 03:28:13 says put a bush in front of it. Yeah, you know, if you want to put like some lattice work in front of the barrels, put some bushes, kind of like you hide your trash cans. Hide your rain barrels. You know, do it so that everything is not done. One person says they collect their water for an outdoor shower and gardening. The outdoor shower, especially if those are black barrels and they're up high, I mean, that's really good. one item that comes to my mind that I was going to use for hot water is I went and got a bunch of that black landscaping tubing or just black garden hoses and coiled up, you know, 50 or 100 feet of hose on the roof to eat up as a rain, as a water heater. One question we had is, how do you keep the water from going stagnant?
Starting point is 03:28:59 well, I would say to either use the water pretty often. A.O. Prepping Post, I've heard some people use solar panels to power pumps for non-gravity. That's good. As far as to keep the water from going stagnant, if you've got power, I would say drop an airstone, like an aquarium in the bottom of it, and hook it up to an air pump so that you're pumping oxygen into the bottom of the water barrel. that's going to do two things. Number one, it's going to circulate it slowly, but it is going to circulate it. Number two, when you're introducing oxygen in the water,
Starting point is 03:29:35 can help keep algae down. So that's how I would do it from going stagnant. Myself, I use it so much. Pretty much every afternoon I turn the system on and let it flow, and I'll probably drain a quarter to a third of a barrel each day. and right now it's raining. And so sometimes the water does go stagnant.
Starting point is 03:30:02 I don't drink it right now. I have the ability to drink it if I need to. But I just use it for irrigation purposes. So stagnant water for me is not a problem. Now, if you're going to use it for potable water, then I would collect the rain water, purify it, filter it, put it into storage tanks, and then treat it, you know, with aquamar or chlorine or something.
Starting point is 03:30:23 and that's how I would keep the rainwater from going stagnant if I was going to drink it. Mosquitoes, that's basically going to be putting a screen over it. So when your water is pouring into your barrel or however, you want to make sure that there's a screen of some sort that keeps the trash and the mosquito larvae out. I get mosquito larvae in mine sometimes, and I just keep the thing closed for a day or two, and they either drown or once they hatch, they can't fly out of the thing, and it gets to like 100 degrees in my tank. So, yeah, fine mesh, you know, take some mesh and, like, double it over.
Starting point is 03:31:03 That's what I would do. Any other ideas before we draw the show to a close? I'm just trying to read through the chat and make sure I didn't miss anything. Well, if anybody else has anything, go ahead and post it, and I'll get to it real quick. But otherwise, as I always say, if anybody has any questions or wants to correct me on something, shoot me an email or hit me up on Facebook.
Starting point is 03:31:30 I do welcome constructive criticism, and I will answer your emails. You can ask some of the people that actually have sent me emails. I will respond back to you. Don't forget us to join us tomorrow night. Dave is at PreparCon. You know, that's the huge Preper Convention out in Salt Lake City, Utah. He's going to be broadcasting his show live from the floor of PreperCon.
Starting point is 03:31:54 Remember, that show is one hour earlier, so his starts at 8 p.m. That's 5 p.m. Pacific. Good Lord, I can't talk now. All righty. Well, for any of you all that may have missed the first part of it when the water was active, when the water, when the show was still good,
Starting point is 03:32:12 then go back and listen to it. We had a little bit of an audio problem, but that's why I keep my phone heading. Let's see. Is there a website that lists the states where rainwater collection is illegal? I would go back to the post that I did earlier. Let's see if I can repost it.
Starting point is 03:32:27 I would try that link at nscl.org. But you can just Google, you know, rainwater harvesting plus your state and get your state's laws. As I said, you know, the state laws can differ from the county laws that can differ from the city laws that can differ from building codes
Starting point is 03:32:48 and or zoning laws and or HOA. So just start doing your research. But that's a good site to start. with that kind of lists all the states. If you go to that one link that I posted at NCSL.org, if you scroll down it has most all the states listed and kind of what their quick restrictions are and then just go look at your state statues and see what they say. That is what I would say about that one for, you know, making sure that it's okay for you to collect rainwater. That's like out in California. I mean,
Starting point is 03:33:19 it's pretty much you don't want to do it out in California because they just, well, anyway. Tread lightly if you're capturing a rainwater in California. All right. Well, anything else from the chat room before I dropped the mic. Last chance, people. All righty. Well, I appreciate everybody joining me. I'm sorry we had a little bit of technical difficulty. But that works with summer storms and the Internet. Like I said, we lost our satellite in Singapore.
Starting point is 03:33:54 We had to fall back to our backup phone line. We got that route to North Korea, even though they don't know it. And the show continued on. You know, the show must go on. But anyway, thanks, everyone. Have a great evening. I am going to go get some sleep because I am tired. I will see y'all next time.

She just dabbles in everything preparedness and is very knowledgeable to come check her out. I think I've taken care of all the business I need to take care of for now. I don't know how familiar you are with YouTube, but once you get a good many subscribers and they kind of get a sense of what you're about and what you're interested in, they send you emails, lots of emails.
Starting point is 03:40:02 I get probably about 120 a day. And lots of people send me good information and links of things I need to check on. Well, I remember that, oh, it might have been last month or even the month before, I happened to mention that I was interested in these bags that you put in your bathtub to fill up with water to use in the event of emergency in case you, you know, didn't have running water. And I was thrilled to find the company that sold them, and I looked all over the website to try to find out where they were made because that's really a huge concern to me,
Starting point is 03:40:40 and couldn't find that and call the company and was disappointed to learn that they were made in China. And I did not want to put anything I might have to drink or eat in something that was manufactured in China. So I was really disappointed because I wanted one. And I mentioned that on the show. And it wasn't but just a couple of days later that one of my subscribers, Vicki, thank you, Vicki, if you're listening, sent me an email and said,
Starting point is 03:41:05 hey, I think there's a company that you might want to check out, and you might like doing business with them a little bit better. And so I checked out the company and liked what I saw on the website and sent a message, I think, I might have even got their phone number, and just called to ask some questions, and they called me right back, and I was so pleased with what I found out. The person I spoke with was David Dodgein, and he is the owner of Aqua Storage and sells the Aquapod kits, and he is my guest tonight, and I'm so thrilled to have him on with me.
Starting point is 03:41:47 David, are you there? I am here. Well, welcome to the Homestead Honeyard. It's good to have you. Thank you, and thank you for having me. Thank you, everyone. I'm on my last burst of energy, so I'm excited. I saved it for you, Sue, and I really appreciate it.
Starting point is 03:42:04 It's really cool to. Can I tell them just kind of in a roundabout way what you've been up against this week? Absolutely. Poor David. I kind of had trouble. I left several messages, and I was getting a little nervous because I always like to touch base with my guests to make sure that they're all ready for the show and stuff, and I didn't hear back, and I didn't hear back. So I finally sent an email saying, David, I really need to hear from you, you know, just getting a little bit nervous.
Starting point is 03:42:28 and he called back, he said, my wife has been out of town on business, and I have been taking care of my six-month-old. So not only is he running his business, but he's taking care of his little family, too, and I think he's had his plate full. But if you've got enough energy to stick with us for about 20 or 25 minutes, that would be awesome, David. Absolutely. I saved it for you.
Starting point is 03:42:51 Awesome. Well, let's talk just a little bit because I know people want to know. I hope that they've gone – I hope that they saw my promo video. and have had a chance to go and check out a little bit about your product. You were telling me last night briefly how you got into this venue. Do you want to share that with my listeners? Absolutely. Let's say, just to let you know, I'm Florida born.
Starting point is 03:43:15 I was born in South Florida. I grew up in New Orleans, and I now reside in Texas. And I've been in hurricanes my whole life. And I remember, religiously, my mother, bleaching and cleaning the tub. And it wasn't until one year. It was actually 2004 that, you know, my mom called me, and, you know, like moms do, check on her son. How you doing? How's everything?
Starting point is 03:43:38 We're getting ready. We're evacuating. And, you know, it's going on and on. I'm in corporate America in the rat race. I'm like, my mom, you've got to speed this up. And she's like, I've got to fill up the tub. And I just jokingly, I said, throw a big bag in it. You'll be done.
Starting point is 03:43:51 Okay. I will call you later. Love you. And it just, it kind of dawned it kept just, you know, me all day. I said, why wouldn't you just throw a big? big bag of the toe. This makes perfect sense. So, you know, I'm doing my job
Starting point is 03:44:04 and I'm thinking about it and I'm like, you know, I do a little research. I start, you know, putting the company together. This is when the wheel's in motion, but you don't know where you're exactly going at this point. So you start doing your research, your homework and looking, well, what kind of plastic? Well, what's on the market?
Starting point is 03:44:20 You know, Ziplock uses a black. What do they use? You know, what's this material? And so you start kind of formulating, putting together but, you know, trying to keep your full-time job because you've got to pay the bills. And lo and behold, I've got some manufacturers, made some prototypes. I'm like, you know, this is pretty cool. You know, test it's like, yeah, it works. And lo and behold, you know, 2005, it's Katrina.
Starting point is 03:44:42 My mom calls me, hey, we're evacuating. Different conversation this time. Get it in the tub. Fill it up. Get out. And sure enough, they filled it up, got out of, you know, They were actually in New Orleans at the time, and came to stay with me in Texas, and that's when Katrina had happened. So, you know, you're sitting there and you're seeing this catastrophe, and you're like, man, what's going on and what's going to happen and so forth?
Starting point is 03:45:12 And you're still thinking, man, but this thing worked. What's going to happen? What are you going to do? You've got to rebuild your life and so forth. Well, after that, you know, they're with me about a month and a half. I love my parents to death, but you know, everybody knows people stay with you that long. You know, you're kind of like, it's time to go. Gotta go.
Starting point is 03:45:29 Let's put it together. So they go home, and, you know, very fortunately, you know, the house, it was hit. But, you know, as anybody knows Katrina kind of veered off at the last, not that no ones didn't get destroyed here, but where they live, they were very fortunate. There was, you know, roof damage. There was, you know, minimal damage to the house. And the water level didn't go above the tub, right? The water actually didn't even go into the house and went up to, like, the door and so forth. well, they get back home and, you know, I'm like, check it out.
Starting point is 03:46:00 And there it is. They had water. And they had the water to start, you know, putting their life back together. They had water to, you know, drink. They had it for cooking. They had for flushing. You know, all these other things that you need the water for is, you know, a – people don't know how much water you actually need.
Starting point is 03:46:18 And they're great, and it actually worked. And they were probably thrilled to have it. Yes, very much. That is – that's wonderful. So what I was absolutely most excited about was to learn where your products made. You want to tell them? United States, but not only United States is made in Texas. I take a lot of pride in that.
Starting point is 03:46:43 Anybody that's done any manufacturing in the United States, it's very hard. It's very easy to, you know, go overseas or, you know, it's actually hard to find people that make certain things in parts and peace. But the one thing I'm most proud about is that not only do we make the bladder's here, we actually have the state school of the Asian disabled puts together for us, which is near and dear to me. And I told them I don't care how big or whatever happens in the future. I will always keep some business there because it's kind of really cool to go in there and hear stories about people putting your kid together. You know, there's the guy that they'll have workshops that certain of them like to do certain things, and some of them don't like to do things,
Starting point is 03:47:27 and there's this one guy that he loves putting the little locks in the bag with a little twist tie. And every time I see him, he just lights up with this huge smile. It's just like, you know, it's kind of cool that. You know, he enjoys doing it. He doesn't like to do anything else there, but he likes to do that one thing. And every time I'm low on parts, they call me, make sure you got enough for him.
Starting point is 03:47:46 Make sure you got enough for them. I'm like, I'll always make sure I have enough for them. So it's really cool. Isn't that great? Now, you know what? That's the product I can get behind and get excited about You sent me one so I could look at it. I love the way it's packaged.
Starting point is 03:47:59 It's packaged so economically. It doesn't, you know, I'm thinking it's going to be this huge, big old thing, like maybe a waterbed liner or something. I mean, that's what I'm picturing, you know, and I thought it would be big and heavy. But it's not. It comes in this nice box. If you saw my video, you saw the two different products I was showing. One was in the smaller box.
Starting point is 03:48:19 What's in that smaller box, David? The smaller box is the liner, the pump, and the locking mechanism. So basically what you do is take the bladder, light in the tub. There's a spout. You put it over the faucet, fill it up. Don't overfill it. And then once you do that, disconnect it, lock the locking mechanism. It's very simple.
Starting point is 03:48:40 It's like rolling the sleeve, you know, on your shirt sleeve, like rolling it down over the plastic, putting the lid on it, inserting the pump, and then just pump it out when you need it. And the one thing I just want to let people know, A lot of people, you know, worried about, okay, well, how big is it? How much water does it hold? The bladder's 40 by 80. You can actually hold a lot more water.
Starting point is 03:49:02 Don't say how much, David. Don't say how much. I'm not going to say how much, but I'm just saying. Because a lot of people ask me, well, I have a jacuzzi tub, or I have, you know, my whirlpool tub is this big. Can I use it in there? You know, anything that's tough a way that's fine. Just throw it in there, you know. But I tell you it, 65 gallons of water.
Starting point is 03:49:22 I tell you 65 gallons of water because the average tub holds 70. 65 is safe. Fill it up. Don't ever overfill it. And that's what we stick with. Okay, well, David, I just told you not to say how much it holds because that was one of the questions for the prizes. All right. I'll give you another question, and I'll make one up if we need.
Starting point is 03:49:40 Okay, well, make one up right now, and here's what we're going to do. It has to be something that they probably would have seen on the website. So think of that. And go ahead and ask it, and here's the deal. The first person that calls in with the correct answer to our question, we're just going to go right through them. If you don't have the right answer, we're going to let you go. So, David, what question? All right.
Starting point is 03:50:02 I'm filling it up, and since we know it's 65, how long does it take to fill? There you go. First person calls in with the answer. About how long does, on the website, he tells you about how long it takes to fill. How long is that? Good question. So there's that one liner, the pump, and the siphon, and that small. box. And that box, really, to me, David, looks like about the size of a wrapping, you know, a roll of
Starting point is 03:50:27 wrapping paper, and it weighs about that much, too. I mean, it just would be no problem to store, stand up in the corner of a closet, no problem storing it. Yes, you take it, you put it in your pantry, wherever, you know, nice area, whatever that's, you know, it's not going to be disturbed, and you just, you know, set it and forget it. And when you need it, hopefully you don't need it, you pull it out, you fill it up, and, you know, turn on what the situation is, you evacuate. Then, you know, when you come back, or, you know, if you can't come back, it's, you know, if you come back, it's there. Hopefully it'll do the job. It's going to be there.
Starting point is 03:51:02 I'll have that water. You filled it up. Hey, David, we need to remind them. The number is 347-202-0-228. Don't write the answer in the chat room. Call in and tell us. First person with the correct answer will get the first aquapide. Okay, so David, I got a bigger box.
Starting point is 03:51:21 It's just slightly bigger. Maybe, yeah, I'm not quite twice as big as a small one as I'm looking at it right now. What's in the bigger box? Great. Thank you. It's the deluxe kit. And one of the things that you learn as you're building a product is, you know, the audience, the consumer, those are the people that tell you what they want.
Starting point is 03:51:40 They tell you what they need. And one of the things everybody tells me is, I've got more than one tub. And I'm like, yeah, it's a good idea. I'm like, yeah, it's a good idea. Me too. And, you know, one of the things I like to do is kind of bundle. I think bundling is where people, when they hear that word, they see value. So I'm like, well, how many do you want to put in there?
Starting point is 03:51:58 And I thought three, you know? So we call that the deluxe kit. We put three liners in there, and we released it a couple years ago, and it's been a hit. Most people love buying the kid. One of the things I love most about is that, you know, some people I've had stories where they filled it up. They had their pump their lock, and you know what? There was a storm. It was actually one that hit Houston,
Starting point is 03:52:20 and one of them, the neighbors gave the other two to their neighbors to fill their tubs. Isn't that great? But they had extra water, too, for their families. And, you know, to me, that's amazing to hear stories like that. You know what? Here is. I fill it up. I got a tub.
Starting point is 03:52:37 A lot of people are like, well, what if I'm going to bathe, I need my tubs? All right, if you only want to fill one, want to fill two. Doesn't matter. You got a neighbor. You know what? Here's one. Why don't you fill it up? and I got extra water.
Starting point is 03:52:49 Hey, David, we've got four people in the queue right now. Let's bring Kelly in and see if she's got the answer for us. Hello. Hey, Kelly, how are you? I'm wonderful. How are you guys? We're great. Good.
Starting point is 03:53:00 How long do you think it takes to feel that thing, Kelly? 10 to 15 minutes. You just got a aqua pie kit. I'm so excited. Thank you so much. Do you think it's something you can use? Yes, I have three girls, and. We've been prepping for about a year and a half now, and that is something I definitely need.
Starting point is 03:53:20 Isn't that great? You can scratch it off your list now. Yes, I so appreciate it. Oh, you're so welcome. Thank you for calling in. Thank you. Thank you very much. And can I lead into just a little more about that real quick?
Starting point is 03:53:33 You sure can't. Let me just say one thing. The other people who are on the line to answer that question, you can hang up and call again in for the second question. David, go right ahead. I want to say 10 to 15. That's just kind of what we've researched and found. It depends on the water flow, of course. So, you know, if it's going real slow or, you know,
Starting point is 03:53:52 if you're in an area that everybody's filling up water at the same time, you may not get that same thing. Also, no, too, when you're filling up these bladders, that there's air and your water. So sometimes you might have to burp it. I've had people say, and it just depends on the water flow. Some people rocket it in there, and then it's got so much air and water. It fills up with air.
Starting point is 03:54:09 And I have air, I know, what do I do? It's like you can burp it like you would a water bed or something. I just wanted to point that out too, but the answer to the question was the 10-15, so thank you. Perfect. Perfect. Well, let's do another one. Let's do one more. People, guys in the chat room, you ready?
Starting point is 03:54:29 Oh, look, they're woo-hoo and congratulating. They're all excited. That's awesome. Kelly, good job. Okay, here's the second one. Okay, I'm going to tweak the question that you gave the answer to, David, and just see if they were paying attention on the website. Okay. David already told you that the liner would hold about 65 gallons of water.
Starting point is 03:54:51 On the website, what did it say that the standard bathtub held? How many gallons? That's a good one, huh, David? Yes, absolutely. Yeah, just see if they're paying attention. Call in. The number is, hold on, I've got to scroll up to see it. Or you can put it in there for me, DB, if you would.
Starting point is 03:55:08 The number is 347-202-0-228. So call in. If you were on the website and you saw that the bag, the bag that you put in your tub, the liner will hold approximately 65 gallons, but how many gallons does the standard bathtub hold? All right. I'm going to wait to see who's going to call in. Let's see. Okay, so David, I've come back home after the storm or the emergency or whatever,
Starting point is 03:55:38 and my bag's full in my bathtub, and it's closed. how hard, or what do I have to do to get it out of there? How do I work the siphon? Is it just, you tell me, you tell me. It's just a simple manual siphon pump. You start, you know, pump the bulb as you would, and you'll start the water flow. On the top, there's a little gauge that you can kind of start the flow or, you know, determine how fast you want it to go, and then you can tighten it up, which will cut the air off
Starting point is 03:56:05 and stop the flow of water. And one thing that I do that I add in my kit as an extra is a cork. and this is good. I'm glad you brought this up because some people say the cork doesn't fit in the top. The corks not actually made for the blue locking mechanism where you insert the pump. The corks for the end of the pump
Starting point is 03:56:24 because what happens is if you pump it out, it could continue to kind of drip if you didn't stop it. And then what happens if you don't have it put away correctly, you don't want anything, any insect or something kind of crawling in there. So we've added a little cork in there that you can kind of put in there
Starting point is 03:56:40 that stops it for hopefully. nothing, you know, gets in or whatever. I love that. Okay, good. We've got a third little piggy in the queue. I like that third little piggy. Are you there? Hi, I am here.
Starting point is 03:56:54 How are you? I'm doing great. Say hi to David. Hi, David. How are you? I'm doing great. How are you doing? Love your product.
Starting point is 03:57:02 I think it's great. Thank you. So were you paying attention to third little piggy? How many gallons do you think the standard bathtub holes? 70 gallons of water What do you think, David? I think that's great. You just won the second.
Starting point is 03:57:19 Kit, how you feel about that? I feel fantastic. One more thing to check off in my list. I know. Isn't that great? Okay, well, you stay on the line and the engineer will get your address so that we can get that right out to you.
Starting point is 03:57:36 Thank you both so much. Yeah, thanks for playing along. See you later. Yeah, David, you know what? Of course, I'm from southeast Texas. You know, we've always evacuated for hurricanes. Well, not always. Sometimes we stayed, but we always filled the bathtub.
Starting point is 03:57:55 And, yeah, the thought, even after scrubbing it at bleaching, the thought of drinking out that is just out of that. It's just not very appetizing. No, and, you know, it's funny because that's been said since, you know, forever. Like I said, it's a small child to remember. And it's a good idea, but that water was never. really for potable water was extra water for using for flushing
Starting point is 03:58:16 or whatever needs you need it for. And now having it for kind of both is just, you know, it's double, you know, you don't have to worry not only just the bleaching, but one of the things that I noticed, a lot of people I've heard stories that they fill it up and they do leave, well, how good are those drains and how good
Starting point is 03:58:32 can you seal it? What happens when it drips? I've had stories of people saying, wow, what a great product. I've evacuated for this hurricane. I came home. and found an empty tub. Now I don't have to worry about that. One of the other things that you need to know is that, you know, the backflow.
Starting point is 03:58:49 What happens if you had backflow come, you know, from the valve that wasn't sealed really strong, and you can have that shoot into the water, then what do you have? You also, the beauty of the bladder being in the tub, is you have an overflow valve, which all tubs do, and what it does is going to cover up that overflow valve to make you bring it up to that higher level, because even if you'd have to try to close up that overflow valve, which some work good, some don't. That's why I got kind of standard for, you know, how to do it.
Starting point is 03:59:17 That's why the bladder's bigger than what it needed because to try to research and figure out every tub on the plane, I've had people send me pictures of everything from claw-footed tubs to triangle jacuzzi tubs going, will it work? And I'm like, it's a bay. You fill it up. It should work. I mean, they're going to expand in there, but it's going to be bigger than that tub,
Starting point is 03:59:36 but the plastic's going to hit up against, you know, your walls, and that's what's just going to contain. It's a whole thing. I just want to keep reminding people. I can't reiterate enough. It's temporary. It's disposable. That's what it's designed for.
Starting point is 03:59:48 Hey, let me ask you this. Somebody left a comment on the promo video I made for the show tonight, and they said something about, I think their concern was the little valve that lifts up and down for you to drain your tub. They said something about you might want to put something over. that so it doesn't puncture the bag. That's not really a concern, is it? I've never seen it in the years that I've done it. If it does, you know, let me know. I mean, of course, it doesn't know what to situate. It's plastic. It's kind of adhered to.
Starting point is 04:00:22 I mean, unless it's sharp, it's going to put it up against it. That was my thought. It's just going to mold around it. It's just going to mold around. I can't speak for every tub, but, you know, if yours is pointing and has a sharp, you stick your hand on it and it hurts, yeah, it might not work. and you wouldn't want to fill it up to that level or remove it or do something else. I wouldn't know what to tell you there, but if it's an average one, I've done it in so many different tubs, I haven't seen one ever do it. Okay.
Starting point is 04:00:54 Noreen in the chat, are there any questions that you've seen in the chat room that we need to ask David? I've kind of been trying to watch, but I might not have caught every single one. If there's anything there, just type it for me so that we can ask him. Okay, David, I know you want to reunite with your family. Let's ask one more question. If they were paying attention in the last segment, you answered this, but we're going to let somebody call in and give the answer. According to the Aquapod Kit website, is the tub liner reusable?
Starting point is 04:01:32 And I tell you what, if you answer it you're going to win, but I'm going to add a follow-up to it, and if you answer that, I'm going to throw on a bonus. Oh, hey, how about that? So go ahead and give us a call in at 347-202-0-228. Is the tub liner reusable? Okay, David, let me see. What is the best way, or I know there's probably several ways. If they want one of these, what should they do to go about getting one?
Starting point is 04:02:01 Great question. There's a lot of people that now carry the product. It's been real interesting the last two years, to say the least. And the price is anywhere from, you know, we recommend the $24.95 to the $295 retail. And right now, Amazon's got them on sale for $195 or $19, around the $20 mark, cheaper than dirt sells around $20 price point. And we sell it for $24.99. However, we also have a deluxe kit.
Starting point is 04:02:32 That's $3499. Some people say I'd rather pay a little bit more and get a bundle. That way I've got three-liners as opposed to just the one. So the shoppers are very savvy. I tell you to go online and see what the best price is. I prefer you to buy them from my distributors before you buy them for me. And that's about that. Okay.
Starting point is 04:02:57 Let's see. We have Nani in the queue to answer the question as to whether the tub liner is reusable or not. Nani, come on in. Hi there. Good evening. How are you? I am wonderful. How are you?
Starting point is 04:03:12 I'm good. So you tell me, does the website recommend reusing the liner? Absolutely not. Okay. There you go. Thank you very much. A big, big question. Exactly.
Starting point is 04:03:23 Now, if you can tell me why is it not reusable, I'll give you your choice. of a bonus prize? Well, because of possible contamination. Good, a little bit more. What happens if you put water in it, then you try to get it out, or you try to dry it, maybe. I know I'm being a little picky.
Starting point is 04:03:54 The contamination works. And here's the deal. You can't really completely dry it, and you don't want to risk that. Right. So that's why one of the things we do, and you said contaminates, so you got it right. I might have been leading it down the wrong path, so you're still going to win.
Starting point is 04:04:08 And that's what I like to tell people. I also like to tell people a great thing about the product is we offer replacement liners. So I've had people go, you know what, I'm not going to pay. That's $20 or $25. That's way too much money. You know, I've had people go on there and just buy a replacement liner. If you want to just buy a replacement liner for $10, it's worth me to pay $10 not to clean my tub or drink from it. And that's, so some people I understand.
Starting point is 04:04:34 that you like to be savvy and save money, and if you just want to buy a replacement liner, if it works for you, hey, that's that. So thank you for answering to that. Hey, David, so what's her choice of the bonus prize? All right, so your choice is, you've already won the kit, so you can do the kit and a T-shirt,
Starting point is 04:04:51 or you can trade them back to you, and I'll give you the deluxe kit. Ooh. Oh, I think I'll go with a deluxe kit. All right, I'm still going to send you a T-shirt, so thank you very much. You got the whole ball of wax, Donnie. I'm so glad you called in, aren't you?
Starting point is 04:05:08 Oh, I am. I am. Believe me, I studied. I have notes. That's so great. I'm so glad you called and played long. Have a good evening. Yes.
Starting point is 04:05:20 Thank you. Thank you. David, we have Wheatree in the queue. She has a question for you. Okay. Hey, Weetree. Come on in. Hello.
Starting point is 04:05:32 girls. How are you? I've got two questions after the discussion you just had with Nani. The number one question that I had is, is he going to give all of us preppers a discount? He does have a secret, we treat. There is a secret. And if you buy the replacement, and actually this is funny. I'm going to share this with the preppers because the prepper actually.
Starting point is 04:06:02 She approached me with it, and I'm surprised nobody's blogged about it, so I might get myself in trouble here. But if you buy the replacement liner and the extra pump and lock, it comes out the total of the 2499 or 2495. I can't remember if it comes out to like $25. So basically instead of buying it for $25 and having to pay the shipping, you get free shipping. Cool. So that's my little secret. Don't tell anybody. He said it.
Starting point is 04:06:28 You can tell them. Yeah, it's already into the chair. Proper didn't know. Prepper discount, there you go. Thank you, Weetreet, for calling in. Yeah, well, make sure that you put it in the chat room or put it on your site for the preppers, you know, because I do take the information that we get,
Starting point is 04:06:46 and I post it over at Facebook in several of the prepper groups that I'm in, and that's when I really see sales start going for people. So my next question had to regard to reusing it. What about, you know, because I know with a lot of preppers, use chlorox to sterilize and stuff like that. What about adding a couple of drops of chlorox in there? Would that not sterilize it? You know, and that's a good question, but when it comes to the water, I play it 100% safe.
Starting point is 04:07:17 I'm going to tell you just to make sure to be safe, not reusable. And for a $10 price point to get a second one, it's kind of cost effective to do you really want to go through that trouble or even take the risk? and most people that use your regular water municipal water can't speak for all of them but check with whoever your water comes from and ask them No quality in it
Starting point is 04:07:40 You got it because most and that's another good thing I'm glad you brought that up because some water Small amounts of chlorine is already in municipal water So depending on how you want to store it I'm going to tell you that I wouldn't recommend it I would get a replacement liner for 10 bucks just to be safe Okay That's a good point.
Starting point is 04:08:03 Okay, well, I thank you very much for answering those questions. Thank you for calling in. Good talking to you. Hey, David, you know what I'm – bye. David, you know what I'm thinking about when people talk about drying that thing out is I'm thinking about a long time ago when I used to store my kids' little blow-up swimming pool, you know, and you think you had it all dry and, you know, you put it up for several weeks, and then you unfolded it again, and it just smelled gross.
Starting point is 04:08:31 It wasn't that you hadn't cleaned it out. It's just that some of the water got trapped in there, and it's just, it's disgusting. It's exactly. I think that's the best way. I mean, I wouldn't risk $10. I wouldn't. I wouldn't. It's just, it's not even worth it.
Starting point is 04:08:47 One of the things that, you know, we've done right after Katrina, my mom, you know, she trained it, used all the watershed with whoever needed, whatever, and then she's at the end of them. She's like, what do I do? And I'm like, well, you've got a big trash bag now, so, you know, cut the pop. use it as a trash bag. There you go. There you go. Good.
Starting point is 04:09:04 Yeah, excellent. Well, David, I think you've answered all of our questions. You've been a terrific guest. I really appreciate you. I really appreciate you coming on, especially just getting your wife back after a week. I know you're anxious to reconnect there. We're excited about your product. We're excited, one, that it's made in the USA.
Starting point is 04:09:24 I'm excited because it's made in Texas because I'm a Texas girl. But the other important thing is that you've kept the price. reasonable and you're having people make it that I want to support. I want to support the people who are making your product. So I'm excited about it. I'm so glad I found it, and we hope to talk to you again sometime. Great. Thank you very much, and thank you everybody.
Starting point is 04:09:47 Thank you so much. Have a good evening. You too. Bye-bye. Bye-bye. Wow, that was great. I love getting all my questions answered. I love talking about his products and I'm thrilled that he brought
Starting point is 04:10:00 he was generous enough to bring some prizes to give away. I know you're glad to get them too. He is just as personable as he seems. He will include a business card in your product. If you have any questions, you can call him or email him. An outstanding fellow. I'm thrilled to have him on. So let's just recap here just a little bit.
Starting point is 04:10:26 I want to remind you here at the bottom of the hour that you're at a American Preppers Radio. We broadcast every night of the week. We have a new show starting on Wednesday at 6 p.m. Central called The Lost Art of Prepping. And I'll remind you to come back tomorrow night to visit with Karen, who is the host of In Time of Disaster. And she will have plenty of information for you. Let's see. I am going to look for any calls in the, okay, it doesn't look like.
Starting point is 04:11:02 like we have anybody lined up right now. I promise that during the second half of the hour that we would talk about canning issues and canning questions because I know that you're right in the middle of it. If you are a gardening person like I am, you are neck deep. I have a whole table full of produce that I have to process tomorrow. Eggplant, squash, potatoes, and tomatoes. My canter is going three to four days a week, and I'm busy, busy, I'm getting lots of questions on canning.
Starting point is 04:11:35 And I want to address here with all of you, my number one canning question, and it wouldn't be what I would consider a traditional canning question, but it is a question I get all the time, and it's on my video on canning butter. The question is, I have canned it, just like you told me to can it, I have shaken it for the last 30 minutes. It's now cooling off, and it's still liquid. What did I do wrong?
Starting point is 04:12:02 And I just want to state here and go on the record that you didn't do anything wrong, especially if you're canning during the summer. If I put a stick of butter out on the counter right now, it kind of lays down after about an hour because it's so warm. And that butter that you have canned is really no different. It has been melted, so it's not exactly in the same state it was as when you bought it. But if you want it to get firm, all you have to do is put in your refrigerator. It will do more than get firm.
Starting point is 04:12:33 It will get hard. So you haven't done anything wrong. If you're canning butter and you're worried that it's still liquid after several hours, it's just how it is. If you want to firm it up, put it in the refrigerator. I hope that will put some of your minds at ease. Before I go on with talking about your canning question, Poki, the Patriot is in the Q. Pocky, if you'll come on in, I'll answer your question or try to. How are you?
Starting point is 04:13:01 How are you, Poki? Hey, good, cats. How are you? I'm great. I have been canning my head off this week, and I tried blackberry jelly. My husband wanted to get blackberries, and we went out and got blackberries and tried blackberry jelly for the first time, and this was the second, well, maybe the third or the fourth time I've tried jelly, and the last two came out good because I did your strawberry pineapple recipe on your site. And the time before that, I had done one in my South Carolina Extension book,
Starting point is 04:13:39 and it didn't come out very good. It was one of these halbernero red pepper jellies, and that one is still kind of runny. Well, my biggest problem is now my blackberry jelly is real, it's still runny. It's just liquid. How long do you think I need to wait to see if that's going to set up, and if it doesn't, if it's still liquidy, should I just go ahead and take it out and reprocess it? Let me tell you ahead of time.
Starting point is 04:14:11 I did not use the pectin because it didn't call for it. They only called for sugar with the blackberry. So I hope that gives you enough to go on. Okay, one of two things. I would wait three weeks. That's about the time when you can expect it to set up. If it hadn't set up after about three weeks, it's probably not going to. The other thing is if you don't want blackberry syrup and you really want blackberry jelly,
Starting point is 04:14:36 then yes, you can reprocess it, and you can either cook it longer, but what I really recommend is that you go ahead and you've already incorporated the sugar. So since you've incorporated the sugar, you would have to use the liquid pectin, and you can try that if you want to. Okay. How much of it did you do? We did, what would we do, parry, four gallons or two gallons or how many things of blackberry do we do? Well, I mean, how much jelly did you end up with?
Starting point is 04:15:06 Oh, how many jellies do we end up? What 12 and 6? About 18, I think. 18, okay, that's a lot. That's probably more than blackberry syrup than you'll want. Yeah, you can reprocess it. just need to use the liquid pectin since the sugar has already been incorporated. And probably just cooking it down just a little bit more and then go ahead and putting that end
Starting point is 04:15:31 and you should be good to go. Okay, and then the liquid pectin, how do I know how to gauge how much liquid pectin to put in based on what I've got there in those jars? I did the half-pint jars, so if I've got, let's say, 18 to 20 of those, how much liquid pectin would I need? Okay, you know what? I don't have my chart with me right here, but if you will go on to the Pecton website, if you'll go on to Serto's website, they will have the information there.
Starting point is 04:16:07 You probably won't want to process that all at one time. You didn't process it all originally at one time, did you? Did you process it all at one time? Did you process everything at one time? In other words, did you take all the? all the blackberries and did you process that. Hey, Pocke, let me tell you this. On that, on that, on the website, it will tell you how, what is the maximum amount of fruit you should process in one batch.
Starting point is 04:16:37 Follow that and then however much liquid, how many pouches they say to put in it, that's what to do. Because sometimes when you're talking about pectin and you start doubling and tripling a batch, it doesn't matter how much you use, it's not going to set up anyway. So follow their guidelines and they'll walk you right through. Oh, okay. The other question I had for you, too, is can you actually take something, like if you had leftover tomatoes that you've got, you're just tired because you've done so many tomatoes for the day,
Starting point is 04:17:09 and you take a batch and you put it in the refrigerator, can you take that and heat it up to boiling and then go ahead and can it the next day? Oh, absolutely. I do it all the time. Okay. Yep, no problem. The third question I have for you is, let's say that you, you know, My canter holds like seven quarts at a time.
Starting point is 04:17:29 If I wanted to do the whole batch and just have it sitting on the counter, can I do that, have it ready to go in as long as my jars have been, you know, what do you call it, you know, heated up in the oven for 225 degrees? I can't think of a word on the front of you. You mean you've already got one batch in the canter and you've got another one that are filled and ready to go on the counter? Yeah, can you do that? Can you have them sitting on the counter ready to go? What are you talking about? What kind of food are you talking about sitting there? Like tomatoes?
Starting point is 04:18:04 Yeah, tomatoes are going to be fine. I wouldn't be doing it with beef stew or chili or anything like that because you're going to be talking about a 90-minute wait time in the canter. But if you're talking about, so you're talking about a boiling water bath with tomatoes. Well, actually, I did a pressure. I didn't mind in a pressure canter. Okay, so we're just talking about a few minutes in the table. the canter, your only problem is getting your, the time is going to be getting the jars out of the canter, letting it cool enough. Now here, you're not going to want to, if those jars is set on the counter for 20 minutes,
Starting point is 04:18:34 you're going to need to lift the rack up in the canter, set those jars there, let the steam come up from the bottom and heat them up a little bit before you lower them right in that boiling water, okay? Because they will have cooled off some unless you turn your oven down very, very, very, very low and just stick them in there as a holding place just to keep them warm until you get. get them in the canter, which is my recommendation. Yeah, and I thought about that. Do you take your lids off when you do that and then put your lids on before you put them in the canter?
Starting point is 04:19:04 Actually, I would just, well, you could do that. Sure you could. You could put your jars in there and just keep them warm. And then as you pull them out, just put your hot bands and lids on and then just get them right in the canter. Excellent, excellent way to do it. Yeah. Okay. Yep.
Starting point is 04:19:19 All right. Super. I love your site. and I've been a suburb for them a long time, so you and Bear Pepper are the best. Thank you so much. I'm so glad you called in. All right, hon. See you.
Starting point is 04:19:31 Okay, bye-bye. Bye-bye. Bye. No, Queen is in the queue. Uno Queen, come on in. Hi, Kat. Hey. Hi.
Starting point is 04:19:39 I have a question. I know you tell us, never leave your pressure canter. Never leave it. Yeah. But what happens if you just leave it for just a few minutes and it goes below your, your pressure, your 10 pounds. Do you then add a little time, more time? No girlfriend. You start over. If you're canning chili and that happens at the 75-minute mark, you start over for a whole new 90 minutes. Oh, I had no idea. Yeah, so here's what you do. You pull yourself a nice, cool, something to drink.
Starting point is 04:20:18 You get your favorite book or your favorite magazine. You pull up a chair and you sit right there. That's what I do. Okay. Or you can pay your 11-year-old to do it. I've done that too. We do to know that. Sure.
Starting point is 04:20:38 Okay. Bye-bye. Oh, my goodness. That's right. I heard an old-timey prepper today say that she walks away from her canter. It's a little scary to me. I don't do that. Okay.
Starting point is 04:20:50 A couple of things I've seen lately. that kind of concerned me. I saw a video where somebody was canning up all their leftovers that were in the refrigerator, whatever they hadn't eaten, they canned it up, and put it up in a canter and called it good. Just wanting to let you know, I don't think that's a really good idea. Foods need to be canned properly. They're not all the same.
Starting point is 04:21:15 All the leftovers in your refrigerator would not be processed at the same time. so just wanted to let you know. If you saw that, you need to rethink that a little bit. One more thing I want to address, I can squash this week, and I've had a couple of people say, I thought you couldn't can squash. Well, a lot of the USDA websites say that you can't can squash, but that is not true.
Starting point is 04:21:43 And their reason behind it is because, one, they haven't done the research on it, so they just can't say, which really bugs me because, you know, we spend millions and millions and billions of dollars on things. Can somebody please do a study to find out if it's safe to can squash? The other reason is because they said they used to have the documentation on it, but they don't anymore and they can't find it so they don't know. I mean, is that the lamest thing you ever heard?
Starting point is 04:22:12 I can't squash. I would not mash up squash and then can it to where it was a solid. That's the same reason they say that you can't can't can pumpkin because it's too dense. But if you cut your pumpkin in chunks and you slice or cube your squash, you most certainly can can it. If you would like to call in, we have just a few minutes, and the phone number is, I need to write this down, instead of having to scroll up, 347202-0228. Now, there are not many things I think you can't can. I do not can solid mashed pumpkin.
Starting point is 04:22:53 I do not can, like, chocolate sunda sauce, anything that's dense like that. I also do not can cake. There is enough evidence for me to suggest that that is not a safe practice. There are lots of people that do it. Lots of people who do it who don't generally use safe canning practices, in my opinion. If you have thought about doing that, I would reconsider it. There just are no safe guidelines. My other thing is how hard is it to throw together?
Starting point is 04:23:31 But if you're going to can a box cake, is there anything easier than just throwing that together and popping it in the oven? It takes maybe like 10 minutes. So if you are considering doing that, and I know many people have done it and have not died, but if you are considering doing that, I would really recommend that you do your research on that. You know that I am very liberal in my views on canning, and I can some things that lots of people think that you probably can't can like butter and milk and squash and those kind of things, but you really need to reconsider cake if that is some.
Starting point is 04:24:10 something you're thinking about. Somebody has asked me this week, can you can breakfast sausage? You most certainly can. You can either cook it like you would, ground meat, just crumble it up and put it in your jar, or you can pat it into patties and then brown them and then stack them in the jar. Either way, those work. Some people have some kind of opposition to the sage that's in the sausage. and say that it gets stronger when you can, and I have just not had that problem at all.
Starting point is 04:24:45 So if you would like to can breakfast sausage, you certainly can, and I will direct you also to somebody who I really look up to and admire, and I trust every single word she says, and that is Jackie Clay from backwoodshome.com, and I saw where she posted on her blog today on her question-answer blog, something that I found very interesting. I have never done it before, but somebody else. Somebody asked her the question saying that when they can hamburger meat, you know, you cook it, you cook it, you crumble it up and you cook it till it's brown and you put it in the jar, and then the recommendation always is that you cover it with water or broth and then process it. And somebody says, you know, it just doesn't taste the same.
Starting point is 04:25:26 And that is true. It is much, much softer than regular ground meat that you just cook. And Jackie said she does not cover it with water or broth. she cooks it, she browns it, she puts it in the jar, packs it in, and wipes the rim, puts the lid on, and she processes it with no liquid in it. I cannot wait to try it. She says it tastes exactly like if you just ground it in a skillet on the oven, and I cannot wait to try it. I have never heard anybody say that that was okay. She's done it for years, and I trust her, so I can't wait.
Starting point is 04:26:03 Prepper Kelly is in the queue. Let's go see what Prepper Kelly's question is. Kelly, you there? Yes. Hey, Katz. How are you? Hi. I'm great.
Starting point is 04:26:12 I admire you so much, I just wanted to say. Well, I appreciate you saying that. Thank you. Yes. I just had a quick question. I make homemade macaroni and cheese a lot, and I make the homemade cheese sauce with the roux and adding the milk or cream. And is it safe to can the cheese sauce? No.
Starting point is 04:26:28 No. No, you can't do that. No. So I've seen bear pepper can cheese by itself, and I'm pretty confident that's okay. I just don't think I would feel good about the cheese sauce. You're thinking it was fly right? Yes, yes. No, no, sorry.
Starting point is 04:26:46 There's just no safe way. There's no guidelines for that. Right. Okay, well, I appreciate it. I'm sorry. That's okay. Okay. Okay, bye-bye.
Starting point is 04:26:57 All right. All right, that's a really good question. Somebody asked me recently, do I really have to add that lemon juice to my tomatoes when I can, them aren't? Tomatoes, high enough in acid. And I've got kind of like a two-part answer to that question. Yes, if you are growing, in my opinion, if you are growing a hybrid tomato, you must add the lemon juice because they have bred a lot of. of the acid out of the tomato. So you know that tomatoes, jams, jellies, those are all considered high acid foods so they can be processed in a boiling water bath. So in order to do that, you
Starting point is 04:27:45 need to raise the acid level of those tomatoes. Now, if you're going to process your tomatoes in a pressure canter, you don't have to add it. Here's the other thing. I grow some heirloom varieties that the acid has not been bred out of, and I do not add the lemon juice to those. So if you are sure you are growing an heirloom, you know you've purchased your seeds from somebody who sells heirlooms, you know that it is, then I've just got to tell you personally I don't add it to them. Okay. Oh my gosh, the time has gone so quickly.
Starting point is 04:28:19 G-man's given me the three-minute notice. Oh, my goodness. Okay, so I've covered tomatoes. let's see. Oh, somebody sent G-Man an email saying, I'm concerned about the shelf life of vegetables and the cans that I buy at the grocery store. Can you take the food out of the can
Starting point is 04:28:42 and put it in a sterile drawer and recan it in your pressure canter? And my answer to that would be, no, you should not do that. The food is much better off being left where it is. and I'll post a video for you tomorrow where I show PreperA. We found a jar of apricot, mango apricot, baby food that was from, I think, 1992. And she found it in the cabinet yesterday when we were cleaning out. I'm trying to get all my chores done before school starts. And she ate it.
Starting point is 04:29:14 She asked, is it okay? And I said, well, let's see. I just use it as a time to teach her. I said, let's look at the container before we open it. Is it bulging? and she said, no, it's not bulging. I said, does it appear to have leaked anywhere? Is there any compromise in the container?
Starting point is 04:29:30 She said, no. And I said, and the seal looks tight? She said, yes. I said, go ahead and pull the seal back. It was one of those little plastic containers. So she pulled the seal back. I said, now what should you do? She said, I should look at the color.
Starting point is 04:29:44 I said, what does the color look like? She said, well, it's a little darker than usual. I said, that's right. It is a little darker. I said, what next? She said, well, I should smell it. I said, that's right. So she smelled it.
Starting point is 04:29:53 She said, oh, it smells great. I said, okay, then give it a little bitty taste and see if it tastes right. So she put a little bitty taste in her mouth. She said, it tastes delicious. I said, I think you're good to go. And she ate down the whole thing. And I'm happy to tell you that she's still with us today. And she's very happy because there were actually two in the cupboard, so she's going to eat the other one as well.
Starting point is 04:30:14 So that is my advice to you. If the can looks good, it hasn't been compromised. There's no leaking. There's no russ. There's no bulging. that's your first test. Then you open it up and you do the smell. Does it smell good?
Starting point is 04:30:27 Did it spurt when you opened it? Because that would tell you some gases had built up. If that hasn't happened, then you take a little taste. Does it taste good? Then you're good to go. So what I'm telling the person who wrote in is those cans, even if they have expired, are probably very good. I've eaten canned goods that are 12 years old.
Starting point is 04:30:46 No problem. As long as it met that test, if it met all that criteria. I certainly would not re-can those vegetables. Anyway, I hope that answers your question. Jim just said, if Preparay eats it, be sure to burp her. Yeah, she might not be real happy with that. You guys, it's been a great show tonight. I've enjoyed being with you.
Starting point is 04:31:13 I've enjoyed kind of watching your chat and following along just a little bit, even though I'm not fast enough to type to you. I want to thank David, who I'm sure is not listening now. He's probably reacquaining himself with his sweet wife and his baby. And I want to thank him for coming on the show. I've had a terrific time, and I hope you have too. Please join Karen tomorrow night, and we'll be back here next Thursday night with another edition of the Homestead Honey Hour.

The EPA got off their asses and started waving the red flags. cyber attacks on the water system hmm I think I remember hearing something about that China Iran doing their thing I talked about it on the PBN daily news I talked about it on
Starting point is 04:35:24 Instagram I talked about it on the traditional Catholic night podcast today is all I've been thinking about and all I've been talking about is water I think the reason that I am so gripped by it number one is the fact that you know I know the severity if if something like this were to take place and the water were compromised for you know weeks or months at a time the other thing is I know so many ways out of this thing and I wanted to talk to you about one of those ways particularly if you're in a humid environment that I'd highly recommend it's a system and you might have the parts to build the system already I have the parts to build the system barring one of them I have a lot of
Starting point is 04:36:14 access to water, but I may build this thing anyway just to show you guys. And just to have another option, like I always tell you, I love having all the options. Okay. Most of you probably know that there's water in the air, right? If you live in a humid environment, you can feel it. You know what a high humidity day is and what a monster it can be and what kind of weight it can put on you, just having all that water in the air. And many of you may deploy a dehumidifier, right?
Starting point is 04:36:49 And what does a dehumidifier do? Sucks the humidity, sucks the moisture out of the air, traps it, it usually puts it in some kind of container that you dump off and go about your day, right? If you're in a very humid place, like the south in the summertime, you'd be amazed at the amount of water you collect in a day. And, you know, with people in a room, it can be even more humid. It's pretty impressive. So I want to talk to you about this system that you can build by rerouting the dehumidified water.
Starting point is 04:37:24 Or the water from your dehumidifier. Now, you don't want to drink water out of your dehumidifier for a couple reasons. Now, if you had nothing, maybe it wouldn't even be a thought probably. So just having a dehumidifier means you got to have access. to water, even if it's not necessarily the cleanest. It's running over metals and running through, you know, different parts of the machine that are probably not maintenanceized, probably not clean. However, if your dehumidifier has an outflow or if you can modify your dehumidifier to create an outflow, those, or any really, any larger sized. water storage vessel or water container, food safe container, can be directly filled using a dehumidifier.
Starting point is 04:38:24 So in other words, if you have a little compartment typically that fills up, you could drill a hole in that compartment, run plastic tubing from the back of that dehumidifier into another container. Now, if you were going to do this, I'd recommend a two-tier shelf, right? So you have a top tier shelf. you know something like a three three foot shelf metal wire or plastic if you have an open back dehumidifier on the top shelf right plastic tubing or whatever the outflow is run that outflow to some kind of a container all right now the next part of this system because we're dealing with two problems with your water right first of all it's distilled water so that means it doesn't
Starting point is 04:39:13 contain any of the necessary minerals for real hydration. So you can drink distilled water. It tastes funny. Number one. And number two, it's also not really going to hydrate you the way it's supposed to. So it's important for you to understand those things. And like I said, the other reason that it's not something you want to drink straight away is because it's running through a dehumidifier, right, which is different than copper pipe or some kind of pipe that's safe. But we do want to catch that water. We do want to route that water to a container. and capture it all. The other thing you add to this rack and to this system is some sort of a gravity filter.
Starting point is 04:39:53 Many of you might have a Berkey already. Many of you might have something like an Alexa Pro. These are amazing filters. I mean, these are top of the notch, highest level filtration you can buy, period, right? So you may opt for one of these things and say to yourself, okay, uh, station my Berkey filter. now next to my dehumidifier. Beneath my dehumidifier is my water catchment, right?
Starting point is 04:40:24 The water, my dehumidifier pulls out of the air, goes to the outflow, fills up this container. When that container gets full enough, what do you think you do? You dump it into your gravity filter, okay? So now you have this system, part one, dehumidifier, sucking the water that's in the air, free for the taking, out of the air and capturing it. Right. Then it's running down into a container. That container can be then picked up and dumped into your gravity filter.
Starting point is 04:40:55 Okay. Now, on the second rack next to your water container, I'd put three or something along the two to three water jugs. Gallon water jugs that were water jugs originally. Don't use milk jugs. Don't use anything that once held food. You can't get them clean enough. There's no point in doing it. Buy some gallon water jugs once you empty one or two.
Starting point is 04:41:21 Keep them on that rack on the second level underneath of your gravity-fed water filter. Okay. Now, oh, you know what else you can put down there to make it easy? A container or a sack or a Ziploc bag or whatever it is of pink sea salt. Okay? Pink sea salt has the highest density of rehydration minerals out of all the salts. So what you're going to do is you're going to take a teaspoon, you're going to conduct remineralization of that water. Okay? And remineralization of that water is going to give you water that is safe to drink and will help hydrate your body.
Starting point is 04:42:08 So this is vital, right? This is vital. Once your water has run through the gravity filter, okay? it goes down through the gravity filter. It's been filtered. Now it's in the basin of your Alexa Pure or your Berkey or whatever other gravity filter you have. Then you fill your gallon plastic empty gallon container with water and add a teaspoon of your pink salt.
Starting point is 04:42:39 Okay, if I were to do it, or if I would recommend the best way to do it, fill it up about halfway, add your teaspoon of water, shake that thing vigorously because once it's full it'll be harder to shake. Shake that thing vigorously to get the water to, I mean the salt to dissolve into the water and then fill it the rest of the way to the gallon. Okay. That's it.
Starting point is 04:43:02 Now you have a gallon of water. Now you have a day's worth of water for you. Now depending on where you're at, depending on the humidity that day, you know, I don't know how much water you'll generate. So I don't know if it'll take a day to generate a gallon of water. I don't know if it'll take, you know, two days, six hours. It's all going to depend on the humidity in the air. But what I do know for a fact, PBN families, if you can run this thing.
Starting point is 04:43:29 So if you have power but no water, right? Or if you have a point zero energy backup solar generator like I have, you can plug in this dehumidifier and extract water from the air, clean, safe, probably better than tap water, I would imagine. And like I said, there are only two things wrong with it. And you'll take care of those with your water filtration and your sea salt. Your pink, your kosher pink salt, right? Or whatever, whatever.
Starting point is 04:44:02 It doesn't necessarily have to be the pink salt, but that's what I use. Yeah. Then you have a water system. And all that water system, you have an infinite water system. You have, my, my kids call it the infinite water glitch. Infinite money glitch, infinite water glitch. They're these funny video game lingo. But, you know, that's what you have.
Starting point is 04:44:32 I would say make sure that the containers you use to collect the final bit of water are of a size that everyone in your home can manage them. Right. So, so this way, even if you and your world, wife are sick or you and your husband are sick, you can send the youngest kid down to grab the water, mineralize it, and put it in the fridge so that you have water for the day. What else? Yeah, that's pretty, oh, you could put it on a rolling cart. If you, if you have a rolling, two-tiered rolling cart, or if you have a something else that rolls with two tiers, I don't know
Starting point is 04:45:13 what else that would be other than a rolling card. That's an option too, right? Then that thing can be moved around different places where you want it to be. The big thing is just making sure that it can run. It can run at least for some duration when there is no power. It can certainly run when there is no water. And that everyone in your family knows how to remineralize the water. And then you're off to the races, folks. So on a day where so much is hinged on the water,
Starting point is 04:45:43 I thought I'd give you the members a peek into a little system that, a four-part system, and you might have all the parts already, but the four-part system that will allow you to pull water from the air, capture it, filter it, remineralize it, and produce water for your family's needs. All right? Talk to you soon, you wonderful members. You are the heart of this and the soul of this Prepper Broadcasting Network.
Starting point is 04:46:11 Thank you.
