Starting point is 00:00:00 Welcome back to the Changing Earth Podcast with author Sarah F. Hathaway and co-host Chen Gibson. Blending survival fiction and fact to bring you entertaining education that will help you dream, survive, and thrive. And now, here's your hosts, Sarah F. Hathaway and Chen Gibson. Chapter 55. Leaving the capital behind, Cole made his way towards the southern border. They had taken a small white Honda to make the trip and changed out of their militia uniforms to blend in. The further south they drove, the more fierce the faces on the street became, and the faster Johnny's foot tapped with nervous energy. Calm down, Johnny. We were invited, Cole assured him. They aren't friendly to mercs down here, sir, Johnny told him.
Starting point is 00:00:58 Driving through town, Cole noticed a group of fighters in black uniforms. Their leader was clearly marked with red stripes on his shoulders. The people on the street were terrified of them, but they seemed to keep their distance from any militia soldiers. Cole was curious. Chappie had relayed information to Cole from the rebel captain he took to Cassidy's camp. The man mentioned a group of soldiers in black shirts. Bounty hunters came from the east to collect people from the west. Making a mental note of the uniforms, Cole drove the truck to the militia gate. The brakes squealed loudly as the militia soldier approached.
Starting point is 00:01:37 You're going to have to have that looked at, friend, the soldier suggested. You're not wrong, Cole answered, handing him his identification. I was told you were coming through today. Welcome to Texas, sir, the man replied, handing him back his ID. Thank you for allowing us to enter, Cole replied. Follow this road up two streets and take a right. You can't miss the governor's compound, the militia man directed. He left the vehicle, waving to another man to open the gate. Pressing on the accelerator, Cole told Johnny, welcome back to freedom, Johnny. Don't they have any refugees here? They do, but they care for each other and help those in need. They seceded from
Starting point is 00:02:18 the United States and rejected the climate refugee system. They believe that all people are created equal in the eyes of God, Cole explained. Makes sense, Johnny answered. My mom used to take me to church, but dad always said that he had seen enough evil to know that God didn't exist. Maybe some people just need to be punished for the wrongs in a past life, Cole suggested. I don't know, Johnny admitted. I never gave it much thought. Cole pulled the vehicle to a stop in front of the compound and showed his ID to the next guard. Governor Dixon would like to talk with you, the soldier stated. Cole stepped from the vehicle and said,
Starting point is 00:02:55 and I would like to talk with him. This way, sir, the soldier directed, leading him inside. They entered a large building that used to be a college. Cole had expected him to have a private office behind a big desk, but his desk was a modest setup in the corner of the soldier barracks. Eli sat at the desk with a scowl on his face. As Cole approached, Eli declared angrily, and here he is, the man himself. I can't believe you let him inside our border. Standing from his desk, the governor corrected sternly, Eli, I understand you're upset, and rightfully so, but I have never
Starting point is 00:03:34 met Major Cole Verges, so please be quiet for now. Yes, sir, Eli acquiesced, pouting. Major Verges, I wish we could have met under different circumstances, Dixon told him, approaching to shake his hand. I couldn't agree more, sir. It was a risky decision coming down here. You know, the colonel's bounty hunters patrol it well, Dixon warned. I had to take the chance. Why now? Dixon's thick brown eyebrows furrowed with curiosity. Eli butted in, suggesting, because he believes he found the savior of the refugees. Eli, please, that is not going to get us anywhere, Dixon corrected, agitated by his outbursts.
Starting point is 00:04:18 He's right. I can't tell you how sorry I am about the circumstances surrounding William's death, but what's done is done, Cole admitted. And his savior did it. Eli, one more outburst and you'll have to leave the room, Dixon commanded. Yes, sir, Eli answered, glaring at Cole. Unfortunately, he's right about that too. But I'm telling you, she's the one we need. She has a legend and Cole paused for a moment looking around. Is this room secure? Of course Dixon assured him. This is for your ears only. She's a landowner. What was done to her family will be the scandal of the century. People will have to
Starting point is 00:04:59 rationalize what's going on with the refugees. With the Ogallala collapse, the situation will only get worse. You're not wrong about that. How are you going to keep her alive long enough to go public? If the feds have the same information you do, her life is in danger. The family's paperwork was lost when they first arrived. They were some of the first families placed in Vegas. And they're still there? Because Erica incited a riot and her husband Vince manages the gardens. The director never placed them, Cole explained. And their past was never researched? Dixon asked in amazement. Things are much different in the Badlands, Governor. Their error will be the scandal of the century. We'd have to get her away from the feds before we can go public
Starting point is 00:05:46 or they'll eliminate that threat immediately. Eli stood up interjecting, I'm sorry, sir, throw me out if you want to, but I can't listen to this anymore. Can we please just discuss getting Cassidy out of that hole in Vegas? I want nothing to do with the lone survivor and I can assure you that many on the board will agree with me. Knowing the truth of Eli's statement and respecting his position, Dixon commented, It's an interesting situation, Major Virgis, but our first priority has to be to Cassidy's freedom. After that, we'll see what can be done with this lone survivor. I have the full backing of the mercenary board to get Erica out. I was
Starting point is 00:06:26 planning on getting Cassidy at the same time. Those bastards sent you for Erica? What about Cassidy? Eli insisted. I'm going for both of them, Cole assured him. What do you need from the Western militia to free Cassidy? Eli asked. I need refugees on the inside, Cole admitted. I have the connections you need, but if you get both women, you better keep Erica far away from Cassidy. I'll figure it out, Cole said confidently. And if you plan to work with her, you can count us out of your future plans, Eli added. I'm sorry you feel that way, but I understand why. William was a good man. that way, but I understand why. William was a good man. After saying goodbye to Dixon and Eli, it was time to design a plan. He knew who and what. He just needed to figure out when and how.
Starting point is 00:07:14 The predicament plagued him as he left the Texas stronghold behind and headed for Reno. The south was still reeling from the Ogallala collapse. He had to skirt the southern end of the new lake and then point the vehicle north. People were everywhere and he noticed a black shirted crew amongst them every now and then. The second sighting made him more curious but a third and a fourth were cause for alarm. On the brink of blackouts again as power demand reached an all-time record high overnight, slivers of the Golden State plunged into darkness. This bomb says it expects to continue with Stage 6, throwing blackouts for the rest of the week.
Starting point is 00:07:52 A scheduled outage on Thursday, but the one that happened Sunday, it wasn't scheduled, it was unexpected, and it lasted longer than a day. Everything looked great. If you are one of my performers, get the lines in, please. That's the only way the show goes on is with your help. Really appreciate everybody's help, but please get the lines done when you got a moment. All righty.
Starting point is 00:11:00 So last week on Virgis, he was in the central region meeting with General McClintock to talk about getting Erica and Cassidy out of Las Vegas. And this week he headed south into the Texas free zone to talk to Governor Dixon about getting Cassidy and Erica out. about getting Cassidy and Erica out. So in my books, I have the United States divided into regions. And it just kind of happened that way because the people, the communities there really banded together for survival to take care of their regions. And so it's a question, especially for me in Texas, like Texas secession is always something that's talked about. So today we're going to explore, will the United States fracture? And it seemed kind of apropos to have our Aussie friend with us, but as Ellen said, what happens here usually happens there. So why don't you just break us in a little bit, Ellen, on some of the conversations that happened there as far as, you know, Australian independence versus splitting the country and that kind of stuff.
Starting point is 00:12:11 Yeah, so there is a really strong Republican movement here at the moment, especially after, God rest their soul, Queen Elizabeth died. Because everyone doesn't want to have to deal with Charles. The movement's getting strong, stronger and stronger. I was heavily a monarch supporter, but now I've sort of shifted towards the Republic. I think
Starting point is 00:12:38 we should be getting away from the colonial choke, as per se, and then becoming our own nation. We shall see. We shall see what happens. It's getting in strength, but still
Starting point is 00:12:53 there's a lot in its way. Yeah. My mom was surprised to hear that the other day. We were talking about how Australia is still part of the English monarchy. And she's like, no, no, no, it's its own country. And I'm like, no, actually it's not.
Starting point is 00:13:15 It is part of the English monarchy. So that was surprising to her. I'm like, Canada is still as well. It's just not something you hear very much about. Yeah, Canada did go away from it for a bit, and then they came back in. It's the Commonwealth of Nations
Starting point is 00:13:33 that are, you know, combined under the British Monarchy. Yeah, so that's why our, you know, our Navy ships, for example, are Royal Australian Navy. Are you sure it's not the Australian Royal Navy? Because I think that was it.
Starting point is 00:13:52 Every time you say that in another data, I'm back. I'm sorry, I'm sorry. I can't help myself. I can't help myself. I can't help myself can't help myself um yeah in regards to the fracturing um I don't think we're
Starting point is 00:14:10 there yet there is a few um instances where um there was a place in West Australia where he said like he's his own nation, micro nation um but um it'll be it'll come down to economic stuff.
Starting point is 00:14:32 At the moment, I don't think it's going to happen, but you never know what will happen. As I said before, you usually take on Australia, you usually follow America three to four years after. Yeah. Yeah. It's kind of like California here. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:14:52 Alrighty, well, believe it or not, we have 12 states that have been talking about secession or, you know, making new states, these kinds of things. So, I found that really surprising. One of the ones that surprised me the most, and this was even on a Dr. Phil show the other day, was New Hampshire talking about secession, which is kind of crazy. Yeah, they're big in the freedom movement though up there like they um they there's like the king new hampshire they're um all about um freedom and doing what
Starting point is 00:15:38 you want and all that sort of stuff right i mean i've heard that over here yeah i was kind of surprised about that like i knew texas and then california i mean honestly i don't think california would because they rely way too heavily on federal dollars um compared to you know Texas, a state like that. So the states kind of talking about it were Oregon, Illinois, Texas, Colorado, New Mexico, New Hampshire, Louisiana, California, Washington, Minnesota, New York, and Pennsylvania. So they all have some kind of a secession-type movement happening in them. So one of the big problems that we're having, and I don't know about you, is the centralized government.
Starting point is 00:16:32 Just no voice, right? You don't have your local feeding to your county, to your state, and then up from there, it's just like the overlords. And one size doesn't really fit all you can actually fit 30 european countries into the united states so that's like what we're trying to manage all under one roof and be like oh yeah we can just handle it federally. I thought that was crazy. Like, you can't, the whole point was to have the state, so we all have
Starting point is 00:17:10 a state, you know, have that voice within the union instead of just a federal oversight. Do you guys have the same kind of issues that go on there as far as your, you know, the
Starting point is 00:17:24 one voice? It's very much a Hunger Games sort of mentality. No, not really. We have the federal government and it is very, very fragmented. So, an example is COVID.
Starting point is 00:17:44 So, the federal government said we're going to shut down and then every state did their own thing from that direction so you know Victoria was the most stringent they had the most lockdowns out of everyone in Australia
Starting point is 00:17:59 and it was like yeah so the states run their state, really. And then you've got three pillars of government here. You've got federal, you've got state, and you've got counties. You do your, what, like the counties in America, pretty sure. So it's the three levels of government and, you know, the council to deal with your sewerage, your water, that sort of stuff.
Starting point is 00:18:28 You pay your land tax and all that sort of stuff. State, that's the state. So state police, state medical, state roads, all that sort of stuff, and then it goes federally. And then you can divide that down into, like, roads as well federal roads state roads and there's and there's council roads and all that sort of stuff so there's very much is a free cause of government thing in australia but they are talking about a universal income which is um very very scary yeah yeah that uh Yeah. Yeah. That really scares me. The the what do they call it? Equity versus equality. I'm like, yeah, that sounds like communism. So, yeah, I that is one that really, really scares me.
Starting point is 00:19:28 yeah i that is one that really really scares me and i've been reading a lot about how you need like the some type of a driver to actually create a situation where you have to bring in new monetary policies which is like what happened after the wars so um yeah that's really freaky to me yeah and it's um so the thing that they've got in at the moment is um they it's same work same pay um so you could be like an example that they use on tv was you could be a qualified multiculturalist you've worked in the industry for 10 years, and you get paid a specific rate. The person who has just joined will get paid that rate, and I'm like, that's wrong. Yeah, what's the clause to work harder at that point, you know? There is no clause to go out and get further education. There is nothing because you're going to get a certain wage.
Starting point is 00:20:29 And all you have is a nation of people who are just doing the bare minimum to get by, i.e. communism. Yeah. Just a bunch of real bullets. Yeah. And then that creates further greed and further corruption and everything in the higher ups because they say they need to, you know. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:20:47 Anyway. Yeah. Crazy. All right. So there's some states like Idaho, and they're just looking like Eastern Oregon would like to secede and become part of Idaho. Northern California was that way. They talked about getting together with some of the counties in southern Oregon as well to become in the state of Jefferson.
Starting point is 00:21:15 So we have some things like that going on. The Illinois separation random. This was interesting. This one is basically, they don't want Chicago. They want to be, you know, they want to be outside of, they want basically Chicago to become its own, like, state. Which is interesting because my son and I have had that conversation where, like, each city that's too big should just become its own city state. And that way it doesn't have the effect on the state that it's within.
Starting point is 00:21:53 Because that happened all the time in California with the big states there. Or the big cities. Same as here, you know, we got Dallas, Houston, stuff like that. Luckily, they're a little bit more on point. But they could have a lot of pull on the whole state. And they're not even taking up most of the land mass and managing that land mass. So, I mean, that's a big deal. So I could see why they wouldn't want to keep Chicago in the mix.
Starting point is 00:22:24 And, I mean, you've already got a city-state anyway. Washington. So, it works. Yeah, exactly. We have an example of it working. So, why can't we do that with some of these other cities? We'll be good.
Starting point is 00:22:43 Yeah, it makes sense. Yeah. It makes sense to me as well.'m like wall it up refugee camps we know it works um in louisiana right yeah louisiana has been talking about leaving the U.S. or becoming a part of the Federation of Mid-American States, which I thought was interesting. That's the first time I heard that term. We'll talk more about the South in a minute. What's the rest of that federation? Yeah. I know. So that would seem like it's more encompassing of all of the central United States. So I like that one. California has five different movements in the state to either split the state or become its own country, which I would find kind of amusing.
Starting point is 00:23:41 But yeah, because they've done a great job of managing their fiscal policies so um in washington the conservative east again wants to break away to form a new state or they would go with idaho as well i mean that's the eastern parts of oregon and washington there it's the same problem they're tied to the rules of the cities that are on the West Coast. Same thing that happens in California. East Dakota, 13 countries of Minnesota talking about forming new states. So they're going to get together and form a new little unit there. And then Long Island talking about breaking away from New York. So I could see the rationale you know okay um
Starting point is 00:24:32 yeah the sound things got me all buggered up but it'll be good in the replay um texas secession is obviously the big elephant in the room right um it's written into our constitution for secession we were already our own country at one time it would be the 39th largest country in the world you can actually fit the uk inside of the united inside of Texas the United State of Texas 2.8 times so Texas is definitely looking like it could make a run for secession and then it can make its own rules without federal oversight without any of these rules you know uh pay-to-play type rules which are just kind of ridiculous if Texas were a country it would be the eighth largest economy in the world, which is also pretty impressive.
Starting point is 00:25:30 In total GDP 2022, it was $2.4 trillion, and that's just getting even bigger and bigger. You know, Elon just brought his SpaceX program down to Texas, and it seems like, you know, even J.P. Morgan was like the bank of San Francisco. And even they have left California now. So this kind of goes to show about what, you know, the state of how California is doing right now. You know, the state of how California is doing right now. So, some of the cons to, like, Texas being on its own doing this.
Starting point is 00:26:16 Really, the best one I've heard is that the cartels would be interested in Texas. Right? And then, like, we're on our own. I was just thinking it'd almost be like Israel where Texas would be surrounded by some hostile nations. And you'd be in the middle with them battling it out on either side. So that
Starting point is 00:26:36 is definitely one of the best arguments that I've heard against it. Loss of federal funding, but we already give a ton of money in, but we already give, you know, a ton of money in, so that would just kind of stop that back and forth flow. So,
Starting point is 00:26:53 what about, though, if it was south of the Mason-Dixon line that came with Texas? Right? So that... It would be... That would drive...
Starting point is 00:27:11 I would... It would... I could see... I can definitely see, like, Mississippi, Louisiana, Georgia, Alabama coming with us. Arkansas, Oklahoma. Yep, Florida. Probably Missouri, Tennessee. Hopefully the Carolinas would come.
Starting point is 00:27:39 But they were even talking about New Mexico. New Mexico and Southern Colorado might even go for it new mexico is always kind of up in the air though um so everybody's been coming south as far as our aerospace technology as far as our auto technology and the south still produces a lot of our agriculture two of the top 10 biggest food suppliers are in the south um we produce the most oil and natural gas production in our country right now with texas being on the top of that and um we're super big in renewable energies as well so there So there's a lot of good stuff.
Starting point is 00:28:26 You have ports on both the Pacific and the Gulf to the Atlantic, so that would be good for commerce. Right? Yeah. I mean, Houston's already a major port. But this obviously resulted in the first Civil War, and one of the things that i think that the united states would be very concerned about is some of the largest military bases that we have are all in that region as well so that would be a tricky little play there on like what happens
Starting point is 00:29:00 with that kind of stuff i mean would they would they be as hip to give Americans military stuff as they were the Taliban? I don't know. So. But as far as, like, the amount of social pressures that we have going on right now and everything, I think that as we keep having more and more natural disasters, I think it's just going to keep pushing a lot of stress onto a really fragile system.
Starting point is 00:29:35 I mean, it would be insanity, but I'm not sure that the United States can stick together when the populations start increasing like they are. I mean, it's just a lot of people. Other countries as big as us, you know, Russia. But Russia has a big portion of Siberia. So it's not like you have as many people living there. Even Australia has, you know, big desert portions in the middle that kind of thing
Starting point is 00:30:05 we don't really have as much of that going on we're just cranking AC so I don't know I guess we kind of figured that out do you hear any kind of talk about it over there in the Carolinas Jen? um I've not heard personally serious talk about it over there in the Carolinas, Jan? Um,
Starting point is 00:30:26 I mean, I've not heard personally serious talk about it, but I mean, there's all social media and stuff that enters it back and forth. That can be bots these days. Yeah, yeah, so that's what I meant. I mean, personally, it's not like
Starting point is 00:30:41 I've been out at a restaurant hearing people talk about it. Mm-hmm. Texas Secession is definitely a tabletop conversation around here. So that's why I was wondering, like, how different is that feeling? And then... And it would have... Go ahead.
Starting point is 00:31:03 It would have been more pressed with water issues as well. Like people saying, you know, with all the stuff that's been happening down there on the border, you know, and it just would have increased tensions and people's thoughts a bit more. Yeah, and we had to really step up and be like, no, we're actually taking care of this problem thanks very much you know have a nice day so yeah that was definitely an issue
Starting point is 00:31:34 i don't know i don't know it's it's very everything's gonna be really really interesting after the um to see what happens around the election times and things like that um there's definitely some cultures that happen you know new york la california coast that you know aren't really the the views of the center of the united states which was why i was really interested to hear the term, you know, the Mid-American, Federation of Mid-American States. And then what do you do? Like, so the East Coast and the West Coast form a country and you're in the middle? You know, I don't know if that could happen. I don't think it could happen that way.
Starting point is 00:32:23 That's why in my books, I broke it out into, it out into the North, the Appalachian region, the Central region, Western, and then the Babylonians. Because I thought that would be much more probably, I don't know. I just have a vision that that's what I see happening to the United States. So we'll have to see. That's what I see happening to the United States. So, we'll have to see. I wonder if there's other countries, you know, other areas.
Starting point is 00:32:54 Well, Russia is probably our biggest example of a country. Russia, yeah. Right? The Soviet Union. Yeah. You know, and how that all looks after the breakup, basically, the divorce. that all looks after the breakup basically the divorce it seemed like um it was more prevalent to change country lines you know 100 years ago than it is today with respect to like areas you know pakistan used to be like east and west pakistan now it has a bunch of smaller countries that have formed their own countries over there so i don't know it'll
Starting point is 00:33:28 be interesting to watch it unfold that is for sure yeah so what's uh i was gonna ask you ellen what's uh hot on the topic what's hot topic for australia right now as far as your guys is are you coming up on elections as well or you just had them? What's going on there? Boots on the ground scenario. Election probably early next year.
Starting point is 00:33:58 But the hot topic at the moment is the renewables, nuclear just back and forwards. So we don't have, we've only got one nuclear sort of, one nuclear reactor in Australia and that's a research reactor that also makes medical isotopes. that also makes medical isotopes. So the opposition have publicly said now that they want to...
Starting point is 00:34:31 All the coal power stations that are getting closed down, they're going to make a nuclear power plant on top of those sites. So it's basically divided the nation, really, in regards to that. People to feel a pinch in regards to energy prices and grocery prices and stuff like that and a lot of people were anti-nuclear even my mum very very anti-nuclear has now turned to the other side and said, you know what, let's get them. We'll get nuclear subs, why not? Sorry, sorry for swearing, sorry, I'm a sailor. Why not? Why not? So that's the question. And this is another thing that we've been talking about as well so but all the renewables that are
Starting point is 00:35:28 going in so they're basically cutting down tops the trees on top of the tops of bridges and mountains and stuff and putting wind farms into stuff like that the greenies the green movement are saying nothing about that but if someone wants to cut down trees on their land in order to improve the land, they will say, no, you can't do that. So it's very... It's agenda-driven. Yeah, it's very agenda-driven and driven to one side, definitely one side of the argument,
Starting point is 00:36:07 and the ordinary people are not getting listened to at the moment, which is very, very frustrating. And, yeah, when Australians get angry, we get angry and we start to protest. It's not that little yet, but it's slowly bubbling away in the background. Yeah, and we've already got protests happening over in Europe and everything as well. Yeah, yeah. So they've
Starting point is 00:36:34 decided to stop. One of the biggest exports for us is actually live sheep. Live sheep to the Middle Eastern market. Okay. Because it is for Islam. There is a specific way that you process meat.
Starting point is 00:36:54 Yep. To make it halal and all that sort of stuff. Yep. So they can't have their animals already done here. Pre-processed. Mm-hmm. Yep. So they have to have life.
Starting point is 00:37:06 So the federal government just a month ago decided to say no with banning live export of all livestock. And I'm like, hmm. So you've basically crippled the economy in that regard. So we can't. That was one of our biggest exports, is livestock. And that's a huge food source. What was the rationale
Starting point is 00:37:30 for that? It's cruel. The Greenies got in and said it's cruel. It's like, well, no one was... Well, the right was definitely saying, what about people smuggling, coming in and then, you know, this boat is sinking and people are dying.
Starting point is 00:37:47 Can't use that reference. Ooh, how's the crackdown on stuff like that over there? I know Europe's gone off the deep end as far as censoring, like, social media and stuff. People go to jail for that. What's that looking like in Australia? jail for that what's that looking like in australia it it's not happening it was back in the early um 2010s 2014 was the worst part of it okay um we're not getting boats coming but we the country no no i'm talking about your government cracking down on social media
Starting point is 00:38:19 stuff people posting social media go to jail for it and whatnot yeah so they there's actually a um they created an actual department within government to police social media so it's a safety commission as i've just been informed so that they monitor people's posts on Facebook and that definitely happened during the pandemic where people were organising protests, lockdown protests and stuff like that and there was police coming knocking on your door
Starting point is 00:38:56 yeah it is happening there is a big fight back though about, about it. And I haven't seen really much difference in it. But it's the bots and it's scammers that are sort of taking over now as well. Yeah, yeah, fair enough. It's like you don't even know.
Starting point is 00:39:21 I've seen, you know, bots arguing with each other on it. And now you don't even know if you've seen you know bots arguing with each other on it and now you don't even know if you're talking to a real person or not because ai is just going crazy so it's like what's the point even i don't know you're just if you're just interacting with a bunch of ai what's the point yeah um what was i gonna say um Yeah. What was I going to say? Oh, it's gone. Sorry. It's gone. No, that one worries me. Google did a movie called The Creepy Line,
Starting point is 00:39:55 and this was back days ago. Days ago. And they were like, well, there's this creepy line, and we'll never cross the creepy line. Guess what? They are crossing the creepy line big time like they're playing hopscotch yeah if you go back and watch that video of like what they considered they would never do and compare it to what is happening um in our world these days
Starting point is 00:40:20 it's just insanity and um how much manipulation can be done through the social media to get results of elections to get people to feel a certain way do a certain thing guys we gotta think for ourselves here um yeah it's crazy yeah and yeah that's what it is. Everyone's got one. Everyone's got a phone. Everyone is, and I know it myself, tied to my phone. Yep. We'll have to have Chin do a show on how he Google-proofed his phone because he's got it dialed in now. Yep.
Starting point is 00:41:04 Oh, that would be great. That would be awesome. I would learn about that. Yeah. Yep. Yep. All righty, Ellen. Well, we're going to jump into Changing Earth News,
Starting point is 00:41:16 and I know you've got an appointment to get to, so I appreciate you hanging out with us today. Yeah. Yeah, I know. Pressing on time on you. So I appreciate you hanging. Always good to have you as part of the show. Can't wait to see you and we'll definitely get you on air
Starting point is 00:41:30 when you're out here. Absolutely. Alright. Thanks for having me. Have a good time. Enjoy. I'll be watching the circus from down under. You're going to be here pre-circus so you never know. Yeah. Alrighty. Take care. Bye. you're gonna be here pre-circus so you never know yeah all righty take care yeah bye but let's go ahead and get into our changing earth news
Starting point is 00:41:54 dream survive thrive this is changing earth news Survive. Thrive. This is Changing Earth News. All right, Changing Earth News for October. I'm trying to jump. I'm just jumping through this here. For August 18th, 2024. August 18th, 2024. We had a little minor CME. Came in today. Should have been no big deal.
Starting point is 00:42:33 Just a little tiny, tiny. Because the KP3 was really big. I believe it's KP5 is lights out. So for something like that to happen very very crazy um just shows you just how weak the uh the magnetic shielding of our planet is so uh that that was a little cause for concern we have more sunspots inbound so the watch is not over eyes on the sun some biggies coming in and we have had some major earthquakes uh they've been the major the big story lately um we also have the super moon coming that is coming on august 19th so tonight uh and then um next night, you should be able to see the brightest moon of 2024, the biggest and the brightest. So keep your eyes on the sky. Check that out.
Starting point is 00:43:34 One of the really weird things that I noticed when I was looking at Zoom Earth today to look at cyclone activity and hurricane activity is that you know how Ernesto made that little hook, how it came in and did a hook, and now they're worried about it shooting out to England? That happened on the other side of the globe as well. There was a hurricane coming in towards Asia, and it did the same exact turn, and it's pointing up towards the Aleutian Islands now in Alaska so I mean I don't know I just thought it was really curious that both of them did that uh it was very you know it's something uh to note that it was interesting so I don't know if maybe because of the solar uptake or something like that.
Starting point is 00:44:27 I can't explain it, but I did see that pattern and made note of it. On August 12th of 2024, this was Monday, there was 430 earthquakes. There were 2.0 or bigger, pretty big number there, 430. I mean, usually we're looking at like 350. So we definitely can see the impact of the solar energy we've been taking. There was a 5.4 in the South Pacific Ocean. New York had flooding from the remnants of Debbie, causing trees to go down, property destruction.
Starting point is 00:45:02 There's been a major drought in Zimbabwe and big-time humanitarian livestock crisis going on there. Romania has been having a drought as well. Their corn crop and also their sunflower crop has been absolutely decimated by the droughts this year. So I found that interesting because, you know, coming in to springtime and whatnot, a lot of our bread baskets in the world were being flooded.
Starting point is 00:45:31 Southern Brazil, southern China, and then for us up in the Dakotas and things like that in the Midwest, the northern states, we had all that flooding and crazy weather. the northern states we had all that flooding and crazy weather so definitely uh keep an eye on the food prices for what's going to happen there and um you know like i keep saying any investment in your long-term food supply now it's going to be worth its weight in gold later not only because of inflation but because of scarcities when those hit august 13th, 2024, there was 388 earthquakes that were 2.0 or bigger, biggest of which was a 5.1 in the Solomon Sea by Papua New Guinea. There was a 4.4 earthquake directly outside of LA. It was a pretty big one, was felt across the city. So that kind of threw up some concern um i would be ready if i was in that area i mean i always freak out when i'm in that area anyway because i know but um there's some signs going
Starting point is 00:46:35 on on our planet right now so i would be really really make sure your preps are ready to go krakatoa erupted on the 13th and not a big deal but i love krakatoa just because of the um it's the legend of the volcano of that volcano you know um it caused the year without the summer and um frankenstein was written during that that summer so as an offer i just have an infection uh fuego volcano also erupted venezuela was hit by a very powerful windstorm that caused a lot of property damage wildfires burned all across greece they were closing in on athens but they have and they were evacuated hundreds of people they have been able to get those fires under control as the week ticked on. On Wednesday the 14th there was 440 earthquakes that were 5 that were 2.0 or bigger biggest of which was a 5.3
Starting point is 00:47:35 in the South Pacific Ocean near Peru. In Valencia Spain they had a major storm. 225 kilometer per hour, which is 139 mile per hour winds. Just insane. Blowing around all kinds of huge boats out there. But homes completely destroyed. Tornado touchdown. So this was a big event over there. The storm also hit Germany.
Starting point is 00:48:12 199 kilometer per hour winds there. So not quite as intense. They still had a lot of rain, flooding, and Belgium also got hit as well in that event. South Carolina, they had a flooding event. Delayed the school start in one of the towns that I was reading about. August 15th, 2024, 420 earthquakes that were 2.0 or bigger, biggest of which was a 6.1 in the Philippine Sea near Taiwan. Taiwan got majorly rocked by that 6.1. 3.9 magnitude earthquake in Lake Elsinore uh that's southern california getting hit again and um kansas had an incredible supercell move over the top of it with a tornado
Starting point is 00:48:55 on august 16th of 2024 there was 397 earthquakes that were 2.0 or bigger, biggest of which was a 5.3 that rocked Jamaica. Mount Etna started spewing ash and lava in a big way. An estimated 77 people have died in Minnesota due to smoke from the Canadian wildfires. So that was interesting. 77? 77. A lot of people died people dying yeah from smoking this
Starting point is 00:49:28 inflation i was like and you know it's not one day right but they're saying like this year 77 people so far that they attribute it to the increased amount of uh smoke from canada august 17 2024 398 earthquakes that were 2.0 or bigger biggest of which was the 7.0 that we well if you listen to the news or whatever you probably heard about that this morning in kamchatka russia um hurricane ernesto made landfall in bermuda but as i mentioned it is supposed to turn up. It also hit Puerto Rico. We got thousands of people without power there. Austria was hit by that rain event, and they had homes, bridges swept away in that flooding.
Starting point is 00:50:16 Kenya's been dealing with flooding for quite a while. They're having an outbreak of tropical diseases like intestinal worms due to the flooding there and just the um you know unsanitary conditions and whatnot so um in india they released water into the chinab river didn't really give anybody the heads up it was causing lots of flooding there and they're also having a major flooding event in Pakistan. In Turkey, there's wildfire raging near the Izmir province. It's in western Turkey. They have evacuated thousands of people there in those wildfires.
Starting point is 00:51:04 On August 19, 2024, there was 375 earthquakes that were 2.0 or bigger biggest of which was in the band of sea near indonesia i believe it was like a 5.3 sometimes i forget to write down the numbers so but it wasn't anything to write home about it was definitely in the five range um the shivlok uh volcano and erupt uh in russia erupted that's on the Kamchatka Peninsula due to that earthquake. So they had volcanic eruptions due to that as well. And we should definitely keep our eyes open
Starting point is 00:51:30 for more of that activity. In Ontario, for more volcanic activity due to the earthquake. In Ontario, Canada, they had a major storm up there. Streets turned into rivers with a tornado on top of that. And then the Portugal island of Madaria, there's a big wildfire there causing evacuations.
Starting point is 00:51:55 So on today, the 18th, another 5.1 in Kamchatka. 5.0 in Japan, followed by a 4.8 in Japan and then Chile had a 4.8 Mexico had a 4.7 and that was moving right up that fault line towards California so that's why I said in the beginning that I would definitely keep my eye open for you for California to see a big storm or a big earthquake down in Southern California. Uh-huh. All right, volcanoes. This is crazy.
Starting point is 00:52:38 And I said we should see more volcanic activity. I know we're going to, but uh 34 active again so that's like our high number is now becoming the norm it's been weeks of 34 volcanoes actively erupting which is like extremely high number we have 31 showing minor activity so that went up one this week we have 25 showing unrest so that's the same so we've added another one to the list we have 90 volcanoes on our planet right now showing activity most of the erupting ones are in indonesia and then the two in the aleutian islands in alaska are actually flagged for minor activity so So interesting, it's kind of lighting up the ring of fire and coming around. California is really the last, the California and the western
Starting point is 00:53:34 coastline, they are really the last places in the ring of fire that don't have volcanoes erupting right now. We just haven't seen the amount of like serious earthquake activity going on there so it either means that it's locked up or it's doing a good job of taking care of the shocks when they come in well it's only time will tell what what's up with that so but i it's eyes on for sure um as far as our national wildfire news in the United States, we're at a preparedness level of five. There are five new fires, 64 total, for a total of 2,229,000 acres on fire in the United States right now.
Starting point is 00:54:21 And only two of those fires are contained. Number one state for wildfire activity right now and only two of those fires are contained. Number one state for wildfire activity right now is Oregon. They have 17 fires burning for a total of 630,000 acres. None of those fires are contained at this time. California is number two on the list. They have seven fires burning for a total of 526,000 acres. None of those fires are contained either. Washington has nine fires for a total of 124,000 acres. None of those fires are contained. Idaho comes in on number four on the list. They have three new fires. They have 14 current fires for a total of 84,000 acres burning. for a total of 84,000 acres burning one of those fires is contained so west is on fire um they should be seeing a cool down right now i didn't see any precipitation
Starting point is 00:55:16 on the way which really helped that's what's helping canada out right now uh british columbia got a cool down and some rain coming in uh so that could the west coast of the united states could really use that same that same weather treatment there but um interesting stuff about the volcanic activity and amount of uh amount that are active i just haven't seen numbers like that since i started recording so it's... I don't know if it's concerning. It's just interesting to notice the pattern, you know? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:55:53 I'm still surprised at all those people dying from smoke. That's just insane. Right? I mean, we had some serious smoke sometimes in California. But, it has to be like people that are very, very sensitive to it to begin with. You know. Alrighty, guys. So that's all we got for you today.
