Welcome back to the Changing Earth podcast with author Sarah F. Hathaway and co-host Chen Gibson.
Blending survival, fiction, and fact to bring you entertaining education that will help you dream, survive, and thrive.
And now here's your host, Sarah F. Hathaway and Chen Gibson.
Hello. Welcome back to the Changing Earth podcast. This is episode number 32, season 10.
10 episode 13.
Welcome back, everybody.
Happy to be back on the Prepper Broadcasting Network.
Always a pleasure to be here.
And a much love to the Intrepid Commander
who was pumping us up.
Got me a little excited for the pregame show.
Hey, Chim, what's up?
Hey, Chin's up, y'all?
I want to leave you out of the intro there.
I almost did.
I was like, Intrepid Commander comes in.
I'm over here building the fire, getting ready for the show.
Yeah.
It'll be a cold one.
Yeah, it's going to be a cold one.
It's definitely going to be a cold one.
I got my woollies on.
It was 79 in here, so I had to get my sweatshirt and my socks.
Brock's just shaking his head at me.
Does that often, I bet.
He does.
He does, for sure.
So we're going to stick with the pattern for now,
but we were kicking around an idea of coming off of the bitter end.
because it is my last book.
And I would appreciate if you guys went out
and actually grabbed that book.
And the audio drama has now begun airing on PBN.
And the audio drama is a blast
and it has a ton of preparedness information in it
and all kinds of things like that.
So we are thinking, and I would love your feedback as listeners
to the show, of just kind of ending the bitter end
where we're at with it.
You guys go out and pick up a copy of that book.
I can chat back and forth with you.
personally on it, but picking up the audio drama content into our fictional slot as opposed
to the bitter end.
So I'd love your feedback on that.
That would be great.
We were just kind of kicking around before the show.
I think you guys would get more out of it because the audio drama is airing on PBN as well.
So for today, we're going to stick with the pattern.
So in the bitter end, and you guys can get a hold of the bitter end, the audiobook.
I'm doing it chapter ahead of time.
So you can be ahead of the game if you are listening live.
If you want to come over and become a member at the Changing Earth podcast,
or don't listen to me, changing earth series.com.
Changing earthseries.com.
That's where you can go, become a member, get access to that audiobook.
Or you can listen to the record and get the story out of it too.
So those are a couple options for you because we don't want to play it here live.
That would just be, I think it'd be silly.
So.
Because we've never been silly before.
Never.
Silliness does not happen on the Changing Earth podcast.
So last week, Bennett found out that the Moore family left,
and then Erica's tracker lights up in the Central Region.
We had a lot of fun talking about tracking and whatnot with Ellen a couple weeks ago on our three-round show that we had to pull off.
Yeah, that's unnerving.
Yeah.
but this week we're catching back up with Erica and they're discussing how do they get out of the central region without or with bones and uh looks like they had a pretty good plan to get in but not really to get out so i don't know maybe she needs to do like some more classes with samuel culper and you know tactical strategies and whatnot yeah
So if you're listening to the record, here's the story, and we'll just continue on.
So I love the interaction with Bones and the...
Chapter 13.
Hello, Dr. Erica said as she watched Dr. Bones slowly regaining consciousness.
You must have thumped him too hard, Jefferson T's gear.
My dang arm was frozen, gear countered.
Getting him out of there is all that kept us alive in this cold, Hall interjected.
Thank God we found this place, Rob commented, as he huddled over a small burner.
Most of the team was with him, packed together in the warmth of the tarp.
You okay, Danny? Star asked, holding him tightly.
The young man's teeth chattered violently.
I'm feeling a little better, Daniel replied, watching the doctor become more alert.
He's coming around, Erica told Dexter and Jeannie, who were looking over Erica's shoulders.
Vince's raise voice drew her attention as he stated,
No, we have to go further south.
He, Geer and Hall were arguing over a map on a table.
As she looked back to the door, his eyes became as wide as saucers.
Erica Moore, the doctor said in recognition.
In the flesh, she responded with a slight bow.
He looked around his surroundings.
Where did you take me?
Do you know what I was in the middle of?
You don't get to ask the questions today, Dr. Erica gloated.
Your men shot Dolores, Erica.
I was treating her.
She'll likely die now.
Do you know what T.J. will do to you and your family if she dies?
The doctor explains smugly.
Erica paused for a moment, listening to Dexter sigh a little.
Guessing her son had done something,
Erica assumed Dr. Bones was not lying.
Don't you worry about what T.J. is going to do to us.
There's only one question you need to answer.
Is the baby Dexter's?
Erica listened to the other conversations in the room halt,
and all eyes looked to the doctor.
Watching their curious faces, the doctor smiled.
Is that why you came here?
Because of a child?
Erica punched the doctor in the mouth,
you don't get to ask questions today.
She followed up her statement with the kick to his ribs.
She hated this man passionately.
You will never get to ask questions again.
No more examining patients, no more designer drugs.
She cursed at him.
Her mind flashed with horrible memories of his examinations
and the feeling of the drug that he had designed just for her.
so T.J. would be the only one with the supply.
Immersed in the hateful feelings, Erica spun away from him as he lay doubled over on the floor coughing.
Finishing his spasm, the doctor realized there was a chain around his neck that restrained him as he moved.
Looking up at the holder, the doctor recognized Dexter.
He looked closer through the darkness at the faces in the room and laughed.
You, stupid woman.
you brought your whole family right to him,
the doctor chuckled in amusement.
His eyes came back to rest in contact with hers.
Answer the question, Erica demanded hitting him again.
Spitting blood, the doctor asked,
What are you going to do with me after I tell you?
We're going to kill you, you bastard.
Jeannie barked stepping forward with a knife in her hand.
Jeannie, T.J.'s missed your pasta little.
girl. Don't you think it's time to come home.
Yuri has missed you. The doctor chided her.
Shut up, you pig. Jeannie cursed at him, lunging toward him.
Erica stopped her explaining, now is not the time, Jeannie.
There you go, Erica. I tell you and you kill me. Is that what you're going to do? Dr.
Bones asked. It's what I should do, but I'm not going to. T.J. needs you. You're much more
useful to me alive than you are dead.
So tell me, is the baby my grandson?
Erica insisted kneeling down into his face.
The doctor remained quiet.
Erica struck him again, but he dodged and grabbed the bracelet on her wrist with his
teeth.
Dexter yanked on the chain when he saw the doctor's slick move, but it only provided more
force to the doctor's clenched teeth.
Erica's bracelet flew through the air as the doctor fell over with a wide grin.
Erica jumped back, scrambling through the contents of her cargo pants for the spare bracelet she stored there.
The new bracelet snapped onto her wrist rapidly.
You're fucked now, the doctor seed maliciously.
No, you are, Vince declared, stepping in and kicking the man across the small room while Dexter yanked on his chain.
When they were through, the doctor moaned in pain on the floor, his blood freezing as it spilled on the ground.
"'Sone of a bitch, Erica,' Vince said, turning to look at her.
"'I'm sorry,' she replied.
"'I didn't even think about that.'
"'That changes the game gear.
"'We need the fastest route out of here now,' Vince instructed.
"'You'll never make it,' the doctor moaned.
"'But I can put in a good word for you with T.J.
"'I'd tell him that once you thought about your choice,
"'you gladly traded the life of your wife for that of your family.
At least he will spare them.
Shut your mouth, Dexter demanded,
pulling hard on the chain.
Let's just go through Brady, Erica suggested.
Everyone knows us there, Star interjected.
Exactly, they'll protect us, Erica added.
Or they will turn us in, Robin Hall said in unison,
looking and smiling at one another.
Thanks to Doc A-hole, T.J. already knows where we are, Jefferson interjected.
The doctor smiled up at them with a wide gray.
in. Stop it, Dexter said, wrenching at the chain again.
No Bennett, the doctor inquired, looking at Erica.
Why didn't you ask him to come? I told you no questions, Erica replied as the doctor
diverted their attention. I know why, the doctor continued. He's a sensible soldier,
and you knew he would disapprove of your idiotic plan to come in here. What did you do,
Erica, bringing them all here?
He chided her.
He had the attention of the room now.
And you all supported this idea?
Did she tell you all about the wonderful world of pain you'll all live in forever?
Even you, young man, the doctor finished his statement with his eyes locked on Daniel.
Shut your freaking mouth, Erica screamed, kicking him hard in the ribs again.
He's just stalling, gear insisted.
He's right, Mom.
T.J. will already have a plan A.
B, C, D, and E.
We need to get moving now, Dexter insisted.
Let's move.
We'll figure it out as we go, Erica told them,
shouldering her pack.
The team loaded up their gear,
and Dexter pulled on the doctor's chain.
Dr. Bone sat stiffly, unyielding on the ground.
Let's go, Dexter instructed, dragging the man across the floor.
Gear looked back at Jefferson.
Dexter, go scout it with Star, Erica told him.
You guys got him?
Not a problem, Gier assured her, taking the chain from Dexter.
Erica watched the giant of a man slowly pulled a small, statured man into the air
until his feet dangled off the floor.
When Gierre set him on his feet, Jefferson shoved him from behind.
I need your professional advice, Doc, Jefferson whispered in his ear.
When the doctor didn't reply, Jefferson asked him,
How many times do you think I could stick this knife in you before you die?
The doctor remained quiet as Jefferson pushed him again.
Don't you want to know the answer to your question?
The doctor tried to refocus them.
No, I want you to move, Jefferson told him,
slicing the knife into his jacket and touching the blade to his skin.
I'm moving, the doctor mumbled, shuffling his feet along slowly.
They crept along through the hazy daylight, barely moving inches.
The black shirts patrolled in trucks and on,
foot scouring the area.
Dexter and Star scouted available routes only to have them shut down by the enemy fighters.
Pausing their progression for a moment, the doctor smiled at Erica's worried eyes shining
behind her goggles.
He knows where you are.
It's only a matter of minutes now, the doctor chided her quietly.
Vince watched as Erica's concern expression turned to a look of sadness and defeat.
Just shut up, Vince snapped at him perturbed with his badgering.
The dampener only works far away.
If Swenson can pick it out of the noise,
it will be over even quicker, Dr. Bones continued.
You don't think we've been researching ways to beat your technology?
His men are closing in on you right now.
Just let me go with Erica, and I'll put in a good word for you, Vince.
In exchange for her, you can save your family,
and your friends.
I can't stand this bullshit anymore,
Gere declared, grabbing his bandana,
removing the doctor's scarf
and shoving the bandana into his mouth.
After gear was done,
he tied a rope around Dr. Bones' head
before putting the man's scarf back on him.
The doctor rolled his eyes at gear.
You asked for it,
Gere declared, flicking his nose with his finger.
Daniel chuckled at gear,
moving to the edge of the doorway and peering out.
Are we going through Brady? Vince asked the group.
I think we have to, Jefferson said.
The doctor made sense.
If they can detect her signal nearby, even with the dampener,
the noise of the other bracelets may be all that's keeping her hidden from them.
So if we stay in the noise of the city,
Erica stays hidden? Rob asked trying to understand.
Exactly, Jefferson agreed.
Oh, man, we're in deep, Dexter said, returning to them with star.
We did all this for him, and Dr. D'emass won't even answer us.
Dexter's eyes were locked on the doctor.
In a fit of anger, he punched the man across the face.
The doctor smiled under his mask, knowing the plight they were facing, and awaiting the moment when T.J.
We have to keep moving.
Another search party is headed our way, Starr told them, hustling out the door and crossing the
expanse at a low ready.
She headed towards a barn that was thick with constern.
cover. The town of Brady stood in the distance, surrounded by ruins of suburban homes from a forgotten
past. Joining Star by the barn, Erica stared out watching the patrols, emptying the homes,
and rounding up the people. They were being loaded into trucks. Wondering how they would ever make
it through the barricade, she quickly backed up clinging to the wall. What is it, Mom? Daniel asked
as she bumped into him. It's Yuri, Erica fretted looking to Vince. There's a lot of
sniffing around too close, Gere interjected,
looking for another exit route.
We've got to go back east.
We can head south and figure out another way around, Vince advised.
Maybe it's not Erica.
Maybe they're tracking him, Jeannie interjected,
holding a knife to Dr. Bones's neck.
She could be right, Gere agreed.
Rob nodded his head as he stood with Starr,
wondering what way they were going to scout.
Is it my baby?
Dexter pleaded, shaking Dr. Bones,
furiously. Dr. Bones just stared back at him. The team jumped as a small door on the side of the
barn open. Pst, an older lady with long, gray, wavy hair called to them. Star moved on the door with her
rifle ready. Robin Hall backed her up, watching the lady motion for them to enter.
Erica's eyes shifted from the door back to Yuri's vehicle. She watched in horror as another
truck pulled up and Swenson exited the truck. A team with a radio antenna emerged as well.
They pointed towards the barn where Erica stood watching them. Whatever we're going to do,
we better do it fast, Erica urged. Vince had already entered the barn and quickly returned Erica.
It's all clear, baby, let's go, Vince said, breaking her focus on Swenson in the distance.
Come with me quickly, the woman inside the barn directed as they entered. Jefferson
and shut the door behind them.
Erica felt safer as soon as they entered the barn,
but the woman insisted,
we can't stay here.
She hustled to a door on the other side.
Trusting in the woman's advice,
the team followed her out the door towards a house,
but the woman didn't enter.
Instead, she went toward a lone tree,
dying from lack of sunlight in the yard.
At the base between the roots,
the woman knocked at the ground,
a tiny hatch opened.
The woman descended quickly,
urging them to follow.
Erica watched the team wiggle their bodies into the hole and then disappear in the darkness.
Erica had never been thrilled about the prospect of hiding underground,
but she had little choice.
Gear stuffed Dr. Bones into the hole and then looked at Erica.
You're up, he told her.
Erica took a deep breath.
The aroma of raw earth filled Erica's nostrils as she squeezed through the tiny hole between the roots of the tree.
There was a metal ladder to descend and she found herself in an earth.
earthen tunnel. Through the darkness a soft light flooded the passage as a metal door opened up
ahead. Erica's heart pounded with nervousness as she approached it. When did he appear? Erica asked
gear, realizing another man had joined them along the way. The man had a round face and wore a thick
pair of glasses. Get inside quickly, he directed, closing the door and locking it after everyone was inside.
It's swarming out there, Solang.
I heard T.J. Swenson himself is here. This was too risky. I painted their faces, Raythe. It was meant to be, the woman explained.
Everyone except him, she said, looking each one of them in the eyes.
Oh my goodness. Do you know who that is, Salé? Rath asked her. That's Dr. Bones.
Looks like he's lucky he still has bones, she teased, examining his body.
and bruising.
Who are you, Erica asked.
My name is Soleil.
I'm a healer, she told them.
Erica rolled her eyes at Vince.
She wasn't very into healing lately.
Even for those who don't believe
they deserve healing, Soleil declared looking to Erica.
This is Wraith. He's a librarian.
The team chuckled in amusement.
Knowledge is power.
Where do you think everyone came for information
after the quakes he defended.
Notting with understanding, Star asked,
How did you know where to find us?
I followed my spirit guide, Solay replied.
Vince turned his back to her and gave Gear an okay symbol with his hand.
Gear shrugged back at him.
Vince's reaction was one gear had experienced
many times when talking about the powers of his Nordic gods.
Can he get my signal here? Erica asked.
T.J. Swenson, Solay asked.
Yes, T.J., Erica admitted.
He can't find you here.
But they're so close we need to wait before we go home,
Salé informed her.
Oh, great.
She's T.J. Swenson's bounty, Rath fretted.
I told you this was too risky.
How many of you have trackers, he wondered.
Erica, Dexter, and Gere raised their hands.
Is the doctor tracked?
Rath asked.
They looked at him curiously,
unsure how to respond,
for they themselves didn't know the answer.
He doesn't have a barcode, Erica replied.
Rath took a device from his pocket and scanned the doctor.
Nope, he's clean, Raythe replied,
Now that we have that figured out,
who do we have here, he wondered, unsure of their names.
Who did Solae bring home this time?
His eyes scanned them, almost looking perturbed.
This was obviously not the first time Solae's intuition delivered strays to their door.
I'm Erica Moore, Erica replied candidly.
Ray stopped short, staring at her in disbelief and hoping she was joking.
Erica Moore, he asked.
And I suppose this is your whole family, he teased sarcastically.
It is, Erica replied, staring confidently into his eyes.
Ray stared at her for a moment, realizing she wasn't joking.
Holy hell, Salé, you've really gotten us.
into it this time. No wonder
they shut down the borders. Do you
know what will happen if they catch us?
T.J. Freaking Swenson
is out there.
The message from the spirits was urgent.
They needed my help and my guides
wouldn't have led me to them if it wasn't
important, Solay explained.
How are we going to get them out of here?
He wondered, staring at the door.
I love the interaction with bones
in this story or in this
chapter. It's just great.
Right?
Right.
And then gear finally puts the gag on him.
He's like, yeah, no, no.
Because, man, he's just talking it, just trying to get up in their head.
And it was working.
And then he alerted TJ to his whereabouts.
So that's just great for them.
So they need to get the rock out of Dodge.
Erica knows T.J's on their heels.
And Salé's character is introduced.
So Salé is an interesting.
So Salae is an interesting character, kind of a spiritual being.
And there's ups and downs for that character along the way.
But, you know, I had to put in some of the spirituality people in their different characters and whatnot.
Paint with full pilot.
And, gosh, who's the librarian guy?
What's his name?
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Yeah.
That was Beta Boys?
Yes, he's Beta Boys.
You got it.
Yes.
And so I don't know if he wants me to say his name.
But that character is actually based off a real individual, too.
He did a lot of help for me along the years with my audiobooks.
And he wanted a spot in the story.
So, you know, I'm happy to make new characters.
It always gives me food for thought.
Sarah was like a couple of us listening, Beta, listened to her stories.
So we were the Beta Boys with a lot.
Z.
With a Z.
Yep, my beta boys.
That was fun.
Tell I added Ellen and then, you know,
but you guys really towed the line there for a long time.
So you always got to have those beta listeners for sure.
Also, a lot of the radio technology was mentored by you basically in the story
because you were like, wait a minute, wait a minute, wait.
You pulled a Brock on me, you know.
Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait.
This is how it might really work, you know, in real world.
So a lot of that came straight from you as well.
We did a lot of crafting.
Crafting, yeah.
Well, we did.
A lot of rewriting in that area.
It was fun.
I loved to, like, reading the books and then, like, firing off texts and messages to you.
I'm reading it or throwing my phone across the room.
They were the good old days.
Honestly, that was the best fun that I ever had.
I always tell everybody, I'm like, tell me your thoughts along the way because it's so exciting when a reader's like, oh my God, I can't believe you killed Vince.
Oh, he's not.
Oh, yeah, remember that?
Oh, yeah.
You were so mad at me.
So mad at me.
You're like, what?
What?
Oh, my gosh.
I'm like, keep reading.
Keep, keep, just keep reading.
Don't make me get in a car drive out there.
Yeah, I believe that was in that text.
Yeah.
So today we're going to go into surviving the cold
because that is what they're doing a lot of
and they can't burn a fire right now.
They have to be super careful
because the amount of cold
but then they're being tracked.
You don't want a fire.
All these things just tip off everybody to where you are.
Even in that extreme cold,
a decode fire becomes difficult
because the ground is frozen, you know.
For those you don't,
don't know a Dakota fire is like when you dig two holes you put a channel in between and then
you build the fire low down in one hole and then you can kind of hover over the other hole and you can
absorb the heat from it and it hides your fire really well from anybody that might be looking
it almost builds like a rocket stove kind of sort of it's like a rocket out of yeah in the dirt
yeah yeah exactly below below sub level yeah yep and then you can put your poncho over the top of
that secondary fire, you know, you get a little smoked, but you stay warm.
So that'd be the key.
Even in this situation with the ground being so frozen, you know, that's going to be really
difficult to even build that structure.
Yeah.
So there are some signs that we are going to have a severe winter here in the United States.
It's been kind of a concern of mine watching global things happen on our planet that,
oh, this is a one in a hundred year event.
This is a one in 50 year event.
This is a one in blah, blah, blah year event over and over again.
I got some great changing earth news for you today.
But there are major signs that we have a severe winter on the way.
We've already had snowstorms hit the Rockies and the northern U.S.
And California, although they very much need the rain,
it's coming in hard at them.
Today was supposed to be really, really nasty.
So when I talk to my buddies at work tomorrow, we'll see how that went.
Then they call it some bomb or something.
I heard them describing one of these storms as a bomb of some sort.
It basically is for that area because they've been so dry for so long
that when you just get that much rain all at once,
the grounds can't even absorb it, right?
So it just turns into straight runoff, flooding.
And then all of your burn areas that were just burned by the wildfires,
they just all turn into mudslides.
it's some crazy stuff
bomb cyclone yeah they're saying it was too fast and too furious it was the bomb cyclone
yep yeah it's just too much all at once
so they're getting going to get hit with that they definitely need the water
but it could be a mess and then arctic ice melt
will trigger global cooling through ocean current shutdown
and we're watching this happen on our planet right now it's the same basic theory
that they presented in day after tomorrow,
except that happened really, really quickly
in that movie.
So it does happen a little bit slower,
but it is happening on our planet right now,
and these rapid warmings are shown to trigger cold
in mid and high latitudes.
And these come from,
this information is coming from Zhagin,
Yin, from Arizona University,
and Ming Zao.
And they're both in Princeton,
and Noah right now.
Like they both work for Princeton and Noah.
So this is legit information.
It's not like a tinfoil hat kind of time.
The ocean crew.
It is shutting down.
And the Rockies, the heat that they receive on the east side of the mountains is supposed to shut down.
And so the Arctic cold is just going to dominate the plains area.
And they're saying that the Texas event last year is going to seem like a walk in the park.
So are we getting firewood this year?
Oh, you betcha.
Nah, don't worry about it.
You don't need it.
Yeah, nah.
It's going to be okay.
Everything will be fine, right?
You got solar panels and windmills, right?
Yeah.
No, we don't, actually.
Not of that either.
Oh, I'm going to do the can one.
Did you see that my, the can idea?
You glue all the cans together for solar radiant heat?
Oh, yeah, yeah.
Yeah, we'll get there, but that's a pretty cool idea.
So clothing is first thoughts.
And I grew up in Michigan.
So I know a lot of you northern people are like,
oh, yeah, we're ready for the cold.
And I believe that you are.
But be ready for some serious cold.
Those of us who aren't used to the cold,
like I'm not really anymore.
I had to dig back to my roots to remember.
Oh, yeah.
Layering.
Layer the clothes, multiple layers upon layers upon layers.
And you can even add padding in between.
your layers of cold or newspaper newspaper go bum life go bum life it works and it keeps a warm no really yeah you put it between your layers
and it does really work uh last year during that week i was darn i was getting really close man
uh double layers of socks so you want a thin synthetic pair of socks that's going to wick the sweat away from your feet
and then you want a natural fiber like a wool or an alpaca,
something like that over the top of that.
And why do I say that?
Because cotton kills.
It literally does.
When cotton gets wet, it becomes an energy,
a warm air sucker from your body.
And it is really not a good material to be wearing in cold weather.
So avoid cotton.
great wool socks out now.
I mean, even like some thinner
wool socks for like, you know, warm
weather, like hiking and stuff, where they're
padded on the bottom and the heels, but they're
not as much on the top
so you're not like sweating in those old
fashy and itchy?
No. No. And I mean,
I have a wool allergy. So like
if I get it around my face
and stuff, I get, you know, red and itchy.
But I have
marino wool
socks. I've been going
crazy buying that stuff because
they're great.
They're my favorite socks.
Bar none.
I really like the Opa socks.
I was wearing a Preper Camp.
I bet you were.
I bet you were.
It was nice weather of Prepper Camp.
It's beautiful.
Okay, no squirrels.
The majority of the heat
of your heat is lost through your
head. So put on a hat.
Very important.
Hats are great and again, you want something comfortable, but...
Hey, we need changing Earth watch beanies.
Oh, yeah.
That'd be awesome.
We need to think about that.
Sorry, squirrel.
Yeah, okay, squirrel.
I was like, I'm going to write that down.
No, I'm not.
I'm going to stay focused on the show.
Mittenes are warmer than gloves.
So when it comes down to it, especially if you can get like those mittens that have the top
that come off so you can actually use your finger.
Yeah, that's what I use.
Right.
But mittens will keep you warmer than gloves because your fingers, body heat is a great thing.
And they'll help keep each other warm instead of, you know, spreading them all out individually.
You know what's nice about those glove mittens combination things is that they don't have fingertips.
Mine don't have figure tips.
Right.
So I could take them out to do the fine work and then I put the mitten part back over to keep my hands warm.
Exactly.
I have those in my bag.
Those are part of my winter back.
I have a pair of mittens, but they're like the knit ones and that, you know, they get all snowy.
And mine are actually wool.
So the minute I, like, rub my eye or my face I get all right.
Yeah, then you get your allergy on Florida.
Awesome.
But they're really good gloves.
That's a good planning right there, yeah.
I hope you have the Benadryl on hand as well.
Everybody's a critter.
Okay.
Your vehicle.
We're going to touch on vehicle next because home is last because there's all kinds of.
a great info that I have for you on your home.
So vehicle batteries tend to suffer
when it gets really cold.
I have a backup battery.
I know they're expensive, but it's worth it.
I do a load test.
I was pregame.
I was looking up, you know, the things to do for cars.
And like a lot of these car parts stores do like free
tests of all this stuff.
And you get, there's this little piece of equipment.
It's a little like piece of machinery.
that they hook up to the battery and it does a load test to test the health of your battery.
So like now is a good time just to swing by whatever your favorite auto parts store is.
Ask it if they've got, you know, if they can do it, run a load test for you.
Because they love to do it because if it shows bad, they get to sell you a new battery, right?
Right.
Yeah.
So they have no problem.
They typically don't charge.
Yeah.
Yeah. It's true.
They test in my son's battery, no problem when it has went down.
Yeah.
Okay.
make sure you have anaphrase in your car and not just water.
Water.
You've been dealing with a faulty radiator and just putting water in your car.
You probably.
It's stronger.
Water or plastic and metal.
Yeah, water is.
I totally froze my engine block one time.
You went up to Lake Tahoe and I only had water in there.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Blew out all the freeze plugs and everything.
That was awesome.
It was a great day.
have in your vehicle in your vehicle have blankets candles water snacks just in case because you never know
it could be like blizzard just comes in you're stuck in traffic for a long time that kind of thing
or you have a total breakdown and you have to not mental breakdown or that too or that too
I mean, you need some snacks if you're going to have a mental breakdown.
So make sure you have that stuff stored in your car so that you have it on hand if you need it.
The ration bars, we have ration bars, you know, and they store for a long time.
They store everywhere.
I tell you what, cliff bars kind of like my go to.
I have those like every nook and cranny of all my vehicle.
I like the, oh, darn it.
I can't remember the name now, and it's a squirrel anyway.
But it's a good peanut butter one.
It gives you a ton of energy.
Yeah.
Always have good clothes on or with you and shoes that are appropriate for the weather.
You're going to be walking in.
I would say in the car, because you could be doing some, whatever, movie night or going to work or something, right?
And the clothes that you have for that event or activity might not be the.
the best clothes for winter survival.
Exactly.
But I cannot tell you the amount of people that here in Texas that I saw walking down the street
in sleep pants while we were in the middle of that cold thing.
I'm like, really?
Like you didn't choose something different to wear.
Put a pair of jeans over top?
Yeah, something.
Wear out, buddy.
Yeah.
So, yeah, definitely make sure you have appropriate clothes because you never know if you're going to
break down.
You're going to have to walk, something like that.
In footwear.
And footwear, yeah.
You don't want to be in your heels.
Yeah.
Your fancy, you know, office shoes.
Yeah, walking in my heels, it just kills my feet for long distances.
I know.
I know.
That was the worst image you could have put in my head ever.
I just saw chin and heels walking down the snowy road.
And if you ever saw Chin, with like your shins, like shorts on or you.
something yeah okay um your fuel level you should be topped off make sure you have a lot of fuel
because you never know if you're going to get stuck you're going to need that engine to run a little
bit longer than it wanted to kind of thing you might have to drive farther because you might
have to go around certain obstacles things like that so fuel is really really important
and then ice scrapers and snow shovels so in a lot of the south
they do not have snow shovels.
Probably not a bad idea to have one.
They have ones that fold up real tight
and you can put them in your emergency kit in your car.
Yep.
And then ice scrapers.
You know, sometimes your credit card's just not enough.
And you need an extra little.
I actually was at a grocery store a month or so ago.
And there was ice scrapers on clearance.
So I grabbed a couple.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Why not?
Uh-huh.
Well, I pay $5 for an ice scraper.
I can pay 50 cents literally.
Well, my sales card works pretty good.
Yeah.
As an ice scraper.
So, you know.
All right.
For your house, make sure you have food and water on hand.
I mean, this is...
Oh, wait, wait.
Can I add one more thing to the car?
For the cars?
Go for it.
Your windshield wiper.
Oh, the windshield wiper.
They make the heavier-duty windshield wipers
and allow them have a piece of rubber over the, like,
the top
framework of the blade
so it helps move snow as well
so check your windshield wipers
and make sure that they're
winter blades not just summer
because the compound
yeah well there are on mail order
and the compound is different
for cold weather versus hot weather
that makes sense
the rubber the rubber compound
that was that was the one
that makes a lot and make sure you have windshield wiper
fluid in your car.
Yeah.
That's helpful as well, too.
I thought you want ice over your wheel.
Well, I think it might have been the same tripper going up to Tahoe.
We didn't have any.
I'm leaning out the window to use a spray bottle across the windshield.
A little vodka on the windshield to be freezes it.
You know, it worked.
So, all right.
So now we're ready to roll?
Yeah, I'm sorry.
I have to get the blades.
No, I like it.
I like it.
I'll definitely check that out because, well, my van's not going anywhere,
but to have a pair backup for Brock's truck, really good idea.
Okay, so extra food and water, it's always a staple.
We're going to say it on every show.
If you're ever preparing food and waters, what it's all about, man.
I keep a lot of my water in my freezer.
As the meat goes down, I put water in.
Then I can take the water out when we meet back up, you know.
Yep.
So I keep a lot of it there.
So it's going to be fine if it freezes.
No problem.
Just leave room in the gallon for the expansion to happen.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Or else they break.
I have a broken one in my freezer.
And then you don't want to solve them out.
Yeah.
I don't know.
I have one in my freezer right now.
Well, you could always put it into a five gallon bucket still.
And then you can use it for like, you know, hygiene and stuff.
All right.
Everyone in your household.
should know how to shut down the water at the main and bleed the lines, not just the man of the house or the woman or, you know, sit in a water emptied out of year.
Yeah, everybody should know this because that is one of the biggest problems and one of the biggest problems with areas that aren't built for cold weather.
There was big plumbing problems here last year.
so and a lot of it could have been avoided if they knew how to shut down from the main and bleed the lines to the house so you don't have power i know it sucks not to have water but it's better to not have water than to freeze your pipes and have that problem to deal with after everything thoughts yeah have firewood on hand if you have a fireplace make sure you stock it even if you live in a warm area you never know what's going to happen and
And we could go on about this one, but I'm just going to avoid the shame there.
Stare down the hallway.
Yeah, I'm going to stare down the hallway at my husband.
See, I told you, sell.
I told you, we still need a firewood.
I told you.
I'm the prepper, and you don't listen.
Anyway, I digress.
I like this next one.
Yeah, if you don't have a fireplace, or even if you do, and it's really cold,
you can put your tent up in your family room.
And then everybody can stay in the tent.
It makes that smaller area that captures more heat.
Yep.
Smaller spaces equal more heat.
So it's a good idea.
You know, you can, if you still have power or something,
you can watch TV out your little screen area or something.
Or bring a tablet in or whatever.
put blankets on the windows right so close your blinds close your curtains put blankets up over the windows
stop that heat from coming in to the house yeah yeah the draft we shut down every single room in the
house except for one um because then you're creating all the heat there it's keeping the heat there
um we did pick the room with the vaulted ceiling but you know so if you can pick a smaller room
that'd be fine, do that, shut down all the rooms except for one.
If your heater is struggling to keep up, you shut down all the vents in your house
except for the vents going to that one room because then all that heat's going to focus itself there.
There are times when the heaters struggle to keep up.
Everyone can sleep there.
Snuggling makes more body heat, so snuggle up, get the blankets, everybody just hang out.
All right, in case the power.
goes out of course you need your oil lamps candles flashlights batteries headlamps that kind of thing
and then know the capabilities of your heating system so we had a brand new house we weren't very versed in our
heating system and little did we know that the pump would actually freeze and it doesn't work below like
31 degrees i think it is so there's an auxiliary switch that can
it into emergency mode so that it keeps producing heat.
But it's not as great, you know, and it struggled a little bit more to keep up.
That's why we shut down except for that one room.
But these are things you want to know in advance about your particular heating system.
Is there a certain temperature where that thing is not going to perform anymore?
You probably should know that ahead of time.
It's really helpful.
Learn from my mistakes.
manual powered NOAA radio and a regular radio.
So just in case you don't have batteries, you should.
You should have all the stuff you need.
How long will you need it?
I don't know.
But you should have one that's manual powered as well.
Do you have one of those?
Mm-hmm.
Like the crank one?
Mm-hmm.
Yeah, I know, because you're like Mr. Prepper awesomeness.
I don't really have a good one, though.
It's kind of a cheap one that I don't like that much.
Okay, I got you.
I mean, I have one.
But it's there.
I can truthfully say yes, but push comes to shove.
I should have a better one.
We have won, but it's batteries.
So, I mean, again.
Yeah, I mean, yeah, the battery ones are my go-to.
And I've got some solar charging systems.
Yeah, us too as well as I'm not.
No.
And that was my next one, solar-powered USB chargers.
Those things are worth their weight in gold when you don't have power.
You just put them in a window.
or whatever, and they power up,
and they'll power up your devices.
I just got a solar panel at a Goodwill store.
Brand stinking new.
Wow.
I'll take that.
How much?
There wasn't any price.
How about five bucks?
Sold.
Done.
Yeah.
Wow.
You find the best deals.
You're like the deal, man.
All right.
So also know your area.
how are people going to handle this
you know a catastrophe to have cold for a long
amount of time to where maybe some of the services
are starting to fail some of those things
how are your emergency departments going to handle it
like I had no idea that Texas didn't have snow plows
of course why would they have snow plows you know
so those are good cold yeah I mean
it doesn't that doesn't usually happen here
but what if it happens again you know these are good things to know
in advance.
Also, know your neighbors.
You might have to get together.
You might need to have extra food for them,
stuff like that.
Phil Rabele was talking about the hurricane
and about how, you know, he was having,
welcoming people into his home and stuff like that.
And I think that's awesome.
Totally charitable, great thing to do
and very, very impressive.
So, you know, you never know.
Growing up, I grew up in,
more of a country setting.
And our well went out.
So the neighbor ran a hose, a long hose, and we were able to fill up, you know, like
bathtubs and stuff, you know, every couple days.
And then, you know, we rolled the hose back up, put it away, because it was in the
wintertime.
Yeah.
And that way we kept water in the house until the, they could actually drill a new, new well.
That's cool.
So know your neighbor, yeah.
Know your neighbor.
That's a good thing to do.
Mm-hmm.
Extra building materials and hand-powered tools.
So, of course, we talk about that in like a collapse scenario,
but it's probably a good idea to have some on hand now.
What if a tree comes through your window?
Nobody's moving because it's so cold,
or they can't get there to help repair it kind of thing.
Maybe you don't even want to have it repaired in that type of weather
when it comes to a window, you know, so having some plywood,
something like that on hand.
I know it's really expensive right now.
now.
So maybe just like a sheet or two because what if it was your roof kind of thing?
It's really important to have those where you can do like an emergency repair real quick if
you had to.
Or you could do like the construction grade plastic and cardboard or whatever.
You know, put the plastic up, put the cardboard up behind it.
Just kind of layer it a bit.
That's true.
I mean, make it work.
It'd be better than nothing.
Yeah.
Do the best.
And limb things.
I was looking up some notes too on the house.
part. And they had a good idea was to kind of do a scope out your house. Yeah. And look for like
ailing trees or limbs or suspects that might actually fall during like an ice storm. Because ice storms
are the big thing, right? Right. In the winter. Yeah, that's freezing crack. Yeah. And trim them,
trim them now while you can control the fall as opposed to when Mother Nature kind of pushes it onto
your house. So that might be a good pregame before the weather really gets bad.
Yeah, and not only that, but like, check your insulation out.
How is your home insulated?
Yeah, exactly.
You know, are you looking at my computer screen?
Right.
Get prepared for that extra, you know, you know the cold's coming.
So make sure your insulation.
Now it's like great weather, you know, in the 70s during the day.
It's like the perfect weather to do work.
Right.
And make sure that it's just up to snuff.
Yeah, yeah.
Also, your roof condition.
What kind of shape is your roof in?
Is it going to be able to handle?
you know, freezing conditions that are going to really put the tax on it.
Any broken shingles or something?
Repair it now before water can get in there, ice can get in there.
Yeah.
I can tell you working in the insurance industry, you know,
so California hadn't seen rain for a long time.
Now we start getting rain.
How many claims do we get?
That's like, oh, well, we had a cracked tile on our roof and didn't realize it.
Now the rain's coming in, da, da, da, da, da, you know,
and it's like, these are things that before these storms start rolling,
you should be up there kind of checking it out.
Or with drones now, right?
Or if you have a buddy or a buddy's kid has a drone,
well, fly it around your house.
Yeah, that's true.
That's not a bad idea.
You don't have to get up there anymore.
You can literally fly a drone around.
Yeah.
Really good idea.
So I was out doing research on it because I was like,
okay, that's kind of my brainstorm, you know.
What else can I find out?
And off-the-grid news has a cool article about alternative
of heating methods.
And they were saying propane, you know, as an option, you can use propane heat.
Most of them that are hardwired to your house, to your heating system do require electricity
to run.
But you can get catalytic heaters that run.
You can even use, they have ones for like a tent warmer where it runs on the Coleman,
the little Coleman deal.
And they're safe indoors and outdoors.
They don't require electricity.
knee, they come in all shapes and sizes.
Those like buddies?
What are those, what are those called?
The buddy heaters?
Like the ones that you put in your pocket?
No.
That's my buddy.
We go be warm.
Yeah, Mr. Heater, big buddy.
Oh, yeah.
Yes, you're right.
Yep.
Yeah.
And you see these, like, when you go to a restaurant,
They have outdoor seating in the wintertime.
Yeah, they're hanging over the, yeah.
They hang.
Yeah.
Or they're the like big stand-up ones.
So they come in all shapes and sizes.
Yep.
So you can really pick what is your price range.
What is your preference?
The only thing is propane is on the rise for expense as well.
And thanks to Mr. Brandon, we're looking at very high heating costs this winter.
Let's go, Brandon.
Let's go, Brandon.
So even if you don't, you know, even if it's a normal winter,
we're looking at really high heating costs,
so having some alternative heating sources might not be a bad idea.
There's also kerosene heaters.
I remember these from when I was a kid, like down in basements and stuff like that.
And it really depends on where you're at in the country
as to what the price of kerosene is.
Because if they use it a lot in that area, it's going to be cheaper,
but if they don't, it's probably going to be more expensive and not worth your time.
Well, these are going to be backup sources, right?
Yes.
This is emergency heat.
Yeah, it's not like your daily heating source.
It's the better.
Right, right.
Passive solar.
So you can open a south-facing window during the day,
put something dark on the floor,
and that dark item's going to absorb heat
and help you stay warmer at night.
Open the blinds and stuff, you mean?
Yes, yeah, not open the wind.
Yeah, well, like, take your curtains away from the window.
Thank you for clarifies that one.
Everybody's like, wow, it's getting a lot colder in here.
I mean, they're in the middle of the winter.
What we need to do is open the window, but it's so cold.
But you got to open.
We're going to get the passive heat from that.
The passive heat is my wife yelling at me.
Yeah.
A lot of hot air coming off of that.
Close the window.
All right, solar convection heat.
So this is the tin can idea.
You cut the bottoms and the top.
off of them you glue them all together put them in a frame paint them black and then line the window with it on the inside they'll catch the heat from the sun and the heat comes out the top yeah the convection put yeah that's a pretty cool idea yeah i like it me too i don't know how much it would work in like 20 below but uh hey every little bit's gonna count it can't hurt right exactly
So if you don't have wood and you have a fireplace, are there cows nearby?
You could burn the patties if you needed to.
I know, yeah, it's weird.
You old cow pokes out there.
They were talking about coal burning too.
Yeah.
But you have to make sure that your wood burner is aligned with fire brick.
You cannot use like a metal one because it burns so hot.
It can actually melt the insuburn.
side of your wood burning stone.
So be very careful about coal, charcoal.
That's why I did not put it on the list
because I was like, we're just going to avoid that.
Because if you have a special system that will burn coal,
you know it.
You already know it.
So if you're in a really old apartment building,
check to see they might still have one.
Yeah, that's accessible.
And then long term, we taught,
I even used it in my book, the compost heat system is really, really cool to be able to pipe through your compost pile and then funnel that into your house.
It doesn't smell or anything.
It just provides you with heat.
No, it's a closed system.
You're just running a pipe through the pile and it heats the air up as it runs through the pile.
And then run it through your house, like baseball heating with hot water.
Yep.
Yep.
So that's a really cool system.
And I'm so fond of it, like I say, even using.
did in my book. That's how they
do a lot of heating in Pine Springs.
I've seen that used for like greenhouses and stuff
to keep greenhouses warm.
Yep. Yeah. Open Maine.
Stellar idea.
Stellar idea.
Okay. Happy Prepper also had some cool
stuff and they said stock up
on the hand and toe warmers.
You know, the little ones that you break
thing. And you know what? That's the kind of
stuff that you can buy postseason
in the clearance bin and you just fill up the car.
Yep.
And they're not going to go bad.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I mean,
they might go bad.
I don't know.
No, I had one.
You'll have them.
I had ones that I had put in my go bag from like 10 years ago.
And I was like, oh, I'm just going to try it because, you know, they're probably toast.
Anyway, they still work.
Yeah.
I was like, wow.
All right.
What are they putting in there?
And they're even great for like football getting, you know, like high school football,
sitting out and there to bleachers or concert outside or Carolyn or whatever.
I used to use them.
When I had to pull birds for my grandpa shooting trap.
Yeah.
Yeah, I'd have those things in my pockets all day long.
That was cold.
And then the old men yelling at you because you're not pulling fast enough.
You're like, I'm frozen.
Drinking their brandy.
Yeah, like I'm frozen.
Blackberry brandy.
Yeah, that was my grandpa.
So I guess Zippo makes a hand warmer too.
You can check that out.
If you still have water, like you still have water and your water's heated with gas, you can take a shower.
That'll get you warm.
I love hot showers.
All right.
But once that power goes down, shut down that water.
Or it's really cold, right?
Like you can watch the temperature of your house.
If it gets to that point, you know, where it's freezing, you need to shut that water down.
They make alcohol camping heater.
that will, you know,
that make a happy camper.
Yeah, I mean, I don't know if you want to burn your alcohol.
You don't want to drink it.
Not that.
The wrong kind of alcohol.
Yeah.
The clay pot heater, the terracotta pot with the tea candles.
If you don't know what I'm talking about, it's everywhere.
Have you tried that?
Look it up.
I have not tried it because, honestly, because I don't have any terracotta pots around.
And I haven't been that hard up.
There's so many other methods that, yeah.
Body heat, so snuggle.
Your emergency sleeping bags can be of use.
Those things keep you really warm, down blankets, fleece blankets,
mylar blankets, wool blankets.
All of these are great heating items.
Back in the day, they used to use hot stones,
but we can use hot water bottles.
And I would rather go with the hot water bottle than I would hot stones.
and then generators
I see where they've used the hot stone
They don't leave the stones in the bed
But they put them in a metal tray
Yeah
They put them in the bed, warm the bed
And then take it out
Yeah
They used to do that
I mean that was their staple
Like pocket warmer back in the day
It was hot stones
Yep
Generators
Stay outside
I shouldn't have to say this
But man you'd be surprised
When the power goes down
People actually bring the generator inside
and then they die of carbon monoxide poisoning.
Kind of like driving through floodwaters.
Yeah.
Shouldn't have to say it.
Shouldn't have to say it.
Oh, whatever.
Whatever.
That's a totally different situation.
So the other thing is we were like boiling hot water to stay warm, which makes sense
because the water puts the warmth into the air.
But then people that were doing that were actually, you're forming condensation.
in your house.
So they had icicles literally dripping off of their ceiling fans,
and it can form a layer of ice on the windows, which can crack your windows, too.
So go sparingly with the hot water.
You don't want to condensate the inside of your house.
It's generally not a good thing.
All right, let's go ahead and jump into our changing Earth weather news.
All right, so we had an interesting, interesting week.
The top stories for today are we have a mega sunspot entering view on the southern end of the sun right now.
And it's going to be aiming up at our planet very soon.
So we're keeping a sharp eye on that one because it is a big solar, it is a big sunspot.
and it has a lot of potential to produce big CMEs.
So we got our eyes on that one.
Lipoma, the earthquake activity is not slowing.
They had a 4.8 yesterday.
We were hoping that it would kind of stabilize,
but it actually hit again with a 4.9.
So I don't know if you guys have been staying on top of this,
but there has been rumors out there.
I've seen it myself.
The earthquakes have made a complete grid pattern.
It looks very artificial.
So there's a lot of debate going on about why it looks that way.
Maybe it's just their monitoring systems or maybe it's something else going on.
But, you know, you can do your own research there.
I just wanted to kind of bring it up and it's just kind of curious that it looks that way.
There's a series of atmospheric rivers that are going to impact the western United States and British Columbia.
So all of our, you know, we got Ryan, our host up there in Washington.
They're going to be looking at some severe winds, rainfall, and snow coming to the mountains there out west.
So batting down the hatches, everybody out west because it is coming in at you hard.
What was it?
The bomb, Chin?
Yeah, the bomb cyclone.
Bomb cyclone headed your way, guys.
For real, it's pretty big stuff.
We had flooding on our planet on the 16th, India.
And, man, I just slaughter these names.
Corolla, 26 dead.
They had massive flooding landslides.
The Minamal River just went crazy.
It was some serious events in India.
India really hasn't been getting a break, so we need to send some prayers there away.
On the 17th, Peru, Los Banos del Inca, that is like, that means Incan bathrooms.
Literally, that's what the town's called, is the Inca bathrooms.
Los Banos del Inca, there was severe flooding there.
The 17th in Brazil, Uberlandia.
Look at these names today.
Uber Landia.
40 minutes of rain.
They had severe flooding.
They got 1.3 inches there in 30 minutes.
It instantly turned the roads to rivers.
It was kind of crazy to watch.
On the 19th, India was hit again in Uttark hand.
Third day of rain, flooding, landslides, mudslides, bridges destroyed, tourists, stranded,
54 dead, 5 plus missing right now.
On the 20th, Nepal got hit with massive flooding of their own.
88 dead and 31 missing in that event.
It was really torrential there and some horrific scenes coming out of that area.
On the 22nd, Spain, the streets in Valencia turned to rivers.
They got 100 liters per square meter.
So I don't know what that is in American terms, but it looked pretty severe.
Australia is on the last.
list a lot and I hear this one in
lifetime because Ellen always text
you know always text me and let me know
what's going on. So on the 22nd
Australia got 3.97
inches an hour.
That's a one in 50 year event.
So what I'm finding interesting
like I said at the beginning is all these
one in a hundred year events all
happening on top of each other.
So for thunderstorms and early snow
on the 18th, Finland
got 19 inches and
hapland it's an unusual amount for
October so Finland's way up there
way up north you know we'd expect them to be
getting some snow here but
to get that much that fast
this early is
really unusual on the
19th not listen to this one
Australia had hailstorms
great fruit
sized hail
that's crazy
was yeah was the largest hailstone
ever recorded in Queensland
Ellen's right by there
And we were just talking about several weeks back they had hail storms too, didn't they?
Yeah, yeah, this is some crazy weather going on in Australia.
Like, they don't get this stuff and they are getting it this year.
Hailstone, the size of a grapefruit, has a terminal velocity of 62 miles an hour.
Ouch.
Right?
I mean, like...
You better put like...
You better have a helmet on.
Safety helmets or something in your bob.
Like my hockey helmet, something out there.
Yeah, that's insane, dude.
There was autumn storm, autumn storm o'roar swept through Europe.
It left four dead in Poland.
There's massive damage to Germany, France, and the Netherlands.
It was this huge storm that came through another bomb like the one.
And then on the 22nd, Pakistan got hit by a cold snap.
They had hail in Islamabad, and it's just really unusual for that to be happening there as well.
We had a ton of tornadoes and water spouts.
Water spouts were like big time on the list this week.
On the 16th, India was seeing water spouts very rare for their region.
On the 17th, Lake Erie off the shore of Cleveland, Ohio had water spouts.
On the 18th, Cuba had a tornado.
water spout. If you look up anything, look up this tornado
waterspout that was in Cuba off the coasts of
Sven Fuegoz. Very rare, dangerous, but the pictures
are phenomenal of this thing out in the ocean.
Trinidad and Tobago water spout, a water spout off the Black Sea of
Russia. UK had an unusual mini-tornado come and hit Cheshire
the Cheshire cat.
It damaged cars and houses.
It was pretty crazy.
The Netherlands also had a tornado.
And Queensland, Australia on the 22nd.
They got hit with the tornado as well.
And they don't usually happen in that area.
So it's really crazy.
Russia saw really strong winds.
There wasn't a lot of rain activity or anything associated with it.
They saw it on the 16th.
it ripped off roofs, left two dead.
I'm not even going to try and say that name because I'm going to slaughter it.
And then on the 22nd, Moscow in Russia got these severe winds,
50 trees down, 25 vehicles, several roofs,
and power outages in like 26 settlements around Moscow.
So pretty severe stuff.
Going into volcanoes, on the 19th Papua New Guinea,
the Manum volcano shows.
Got ash 50 feet in the air.
It was pretty cool to watch.
And then on the 20th, Japan, the...
Wait, I think you forgot a couple zeros after the 5-0.
Is there 50,000 feet in the air?
Yeah, 50,000 feet in the air.
Yep.
In Japan, powerful eruption on Asosan's Nakadoka's crater.
Weak of tremors led up to that.
It shot ash 11,500 feet in the air.
That is just disturbing because of the activity that they saw leading up to it.
We've had so many tremors going on.
I mean, tremor activity never really ends in like the Yellowstone activity,
but it's area, but it's really been on an uptick.
So we have eyes on that one too.
On the 20th Eastern Russia, this was really cool picture.
pictures too, a mud volcano.
I'm not going to say that name because it's really hard, but a mud volcano began a series of
eruptions. This emits mud and gas that can spontaneously combust.
So it's kind of like in Princess Bride, the one fire swamp. It looked like that. It was
crazy, like the mud just bleh. And it's just eruptions of this gas and mud just spewing out.
And then, of course, La Poma on the 24th, it expands.
New spouts are opening.
Cones are collapsing.
It is the most devastating eruption of a volcano in recent times for sure right now.
Okay, fireballs and asteroids, because, you know, that's good, good topics.
On the 17th, one flew across Southern California.
on the 18th newly discovered 2021 TG 14 flew by Earth at 155,000 miles away.
That thing was 17 to 35 or 39 feet in diameter, so it could have caused some serious damage.
And then on the 20th, there was another fireball that came through,
and they saw it in Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, Ontario, Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania,
Wisconsin and West Virginia.
And word is that this is from the Orionids meteor shower
that's supposed to be coming up in a week.
So keep your eyes to the sky.
That'll be fun to watch.
All right.
Let's get down to earthquake news on the 16th, 342 earthquakes,
magnitude 2.5 or higher hit.
The highest of which was 5.2 in the Cayman Islands,
5.2 in Russia, 5.1 in New Zealand.
Zealand. On the 17th, activity stayed about the same 342 earthquakes, 2.5 or higher,
with our highest coming in, 5.4 in New Zealand. Japan had a couple, and then Russia had a couple,
but we saw 4.9 at Venatu. I keep my eye on Vanatu because that's a big volcano area over there
as well. On the 18th, we had a little bit of a downtick, 334 earthquakes, 2.5 or higher,
6.1 at Venat 2, 5.3 in Russia, 5.1 in Chile.
On the 19th, the activity upticked.
There was 349 earthquakes, 2.5 or higher, the biggest, which was a 6.1 in Greece.
It was only 36 miles underground, and it was right off the coast there.
Rattled them pretty good because it was so shallow.
There was also a 5.2 in New Zealand, 5.3 in Japan, 5.2 in Costa Rica.
and Costa Rica has been popping up more and more,
so I'm keeping my eyes on that too.
And then a 4.9 in Alaska.
And then on the 20th, there was 339 earthquakes 2.5 or higher.
So, you know, we're staying about the same.
5.1 in the Solomon, 5.0 Indonesia.
4.9 in Chin's favorite, the South Sandwich Island.
Yes.
I don't know.
The Alaskan one might come in as a good second, rat island.
Rat islands, yeah.
And the Aleetians.
That's in the Elysians.
21st, 402 earthquakes magnitude 2.5 or higher.
There was a 5.9 and a 5.7 in New Zealand.
And, you know, a lot of wealthy people have their bugout properties there.
I'm not sure with the amount of earthquake activity that they get and, like, the forecasted movement of that country.
I don't know that I'm really buying into that one.
I hope they built pods like in your story.
Right?
Yeah, with the legs.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
5.5 in Japan, 5.0 in Alberta, Canada.
Canada doesn't usually come up on the list.
4.9 in Iran and a 4.8 in China.
So a lot of those are weird places where we don't see a lot of them.
And then on the 22nd, there was 265 earthquakes, magnitude 2.8 or higher.
So we're looking at a higher magnitude, bigger number up there.
And there was a 5.4 in Micronesia, 5.1 in Indonesia, 5.0 in Tonga, and 4.8 in the Mid-Atlantic Ridge.
So this is a lot of the ring of fire that's just being really, really active, really active.
And he's just calm down a little.
And then looking at our volcano activity, there was 28 active volcanoes.
today. That's the highest number I've seen since I started recording volcano activity.
So that's way up there. But as far as minor activity goes, we only had 14. That's at the low end of
the scale. And on rest, we only had 27. So that's at the low end of the scale. And I have to wonder
about their general, they're reporting in general right now because the numbers, even though we have
so many active, it's like the other ones have just fallen off.
I'm not sure if I believe so much of that
because we used to have like 46 that we're showing unrest, you know.
And now we're down to 27.
So it's just interesting.
I'd like to learn more about how they gather up these numbers.
But it is what it is right now.
So just as far as tracking trends,
we're looking at 28 active volcanoes on our planet right now,
which is at the really, really high scale.
So, yeah.
You got the intrepid commander scared.
He just chimed into the chat room.
Oh, see, I just push it over to the side.
So I was like, okay.
Yeah, he's all nervous now with you're changing her snooze.
He loves it.
He loves it.
So, no, we just got to keep an eye on things.
And just because the difference of activity around the globe, you know,
it's been Australia's winter, that kind of thing.
And so watching that activity and then kind of equating it to what's going to happen up north this winter,
that's why it's really important that we prep for the cold.
And if it doesn't happen, well, then, you know, you were prepared.
But if it does happen, then, you know, you were prepared.
So it's better to be ready than not, in my opinion.
Yep.
Yeah.
So anyway, let us know how you guys feel about the book information.
If you'd rather, because we can jump into the audio drama.
It's just laden with survival information,
and we can definitely delve into some of those topics there.
Or I will tell you, honestly,
I'm not going to air the end of the bitter end,
so I'm not sure how far we're going to take it anyway,
but I'm not going to air it on the podcast
because it really is the coup de grace of the series.
But I'd love to hear your opinion on the content
that you'd like to hear moving forward.
What would be more relevant in your guys's life?
What fictional story would you like Mama to read to you?
I'm thinking the audio drama.
I mean, it's cool.
It's a lot of fun.
And everybody here at PBN, they have a great time putting it together.
And it's just really a labor of love.
So that's why I'm thinking we kind of switch up to that now again.
But yeah, I need feedback from you guys, for sure.
all right well let's keep eyes on that solar sunspot
I'll post stuff up on our PBN chat line about it this week
we'll just keep saying some prayers that it just pittles out and passes us by with no big deal
and that's really and we're eyes on the west you know with that big storm coming through right now
but yeah it's about where we're at what do you got
You got nothing?
I got nothing.
I'm scared.
I got to go outside and chop down some trees.
Make some wood.
Make sure your branches are all trimmed up and all that stuff.
That's right.
Yeah.
Everybody should.
Get out there and check it out.
All righty then, we're out of here.
Until next time, remember.
Dream?
Survive.
Thrive.
