Starting point is 00:00:29 To start using Seekkeek, you definitely. I love the free Sinky app or go to sinkinge.com. And also, remember to check out After the Thrones hosted by our buddies Chris Ryan and Andy Greenwald. It's available after every episode of Game of Thrones on HBO Now, HBO Go, and even HBO proper. Winter is here, and Chris and Andy are ready to break it down. Welcome to Jam Session. I'm Julia Lippman.
Starting point is 00:00:56 I'm Amanda Dobbins. It's very busy week in the celebrity ecosphere. We have a lot to talk about. Is Ecosphere a word? Yes. Okay, cool. I mean, just making sure. Now I'm nervous.
Starting point is 00:01:06 Now I think it definitely, you said it in a way that made me think it's a word. Okay, let's just go with it. Great. Lots to discuss. Yes, we're going to start with Kelly Ripper. That's been a hot topic in the ringer office. Kelly Ripper on the lamb. Kelly Ripper on the lamb.
Starting point is 00:01:21 That's a great, like, she could be our new Carmen San Diego, Kelly Ripper. We shot it out Carmen San Diego a few weeks ago. Oh, yes. I spent like 20 minutes showing Racapella videos to Tate. He never seen any? never heard of Carmen San Diego, who had never heard of Rockapela. It's so wild. He was not impressed.
Starting point is 00:01:39 Young millennials are not here for Carmen San Diego. That's fine. That's okay. But are they here for Kelly Rippa? Who's watching live with Kelly and Michael? That's a good question. We'll get to that. I also just want to say we're going to also talk about Melania Trump.
Starting point is 00:01:53 There's a new GQ article that has a lot to say, even though she doesn't. And then we'll also talk about like the Rachel Roy, Rita, or a lem. Becky mess that I can't. Becky. We'll go there. All right. First, who is here for Kelly Rippa? I am. So here's what I want to say. I had a great time watching Kelly and Michael this morning. How was their vibe together? A little strained.
Starting point is 00:02:16 Though I have to, like, let's be very honest, I was not a regular viewer. Sure, because you have a job. Because I have a job. I will say this. I would love to live in a world where, like, I'm home between nine and 10 and can watch Kelly and Michael. It was really soothing. It did have that, like, I'm playing hooky from school vibe to it because I think the only time I've ever I ever really watched like Kelly and Regis was when I was playing hooky from school. Sure. I used to watch the Price is Right, obviously. Absolutely. And also I was really into passions when it first started and that was like
Starting point is 00:02:47 the biggest treat of staying home from school is being able to watch passions on NBC. Price is Right was definitely one of mine. And then also I would never miss kind of the if you were home all day, then you got Brady Bunch and saved by the bell in the afternoon. You didn't miss a block. I used to rush home from school to catch reruns of Baywatch. So I'm really looking forward to that movie. Daytime TV is interesting. So just in case you're late to the story, Calli Rupa and Michael Strayhan have hosted, I keep calling it Regis and Kelly, Kelly and Michael for the last, what, four years, right? And then it was announced an hour after one of their shows on last Thursday, I believe. Yeah, midweek last week. Midweek last week that he was going to GMA and she was not given any
Starting point is 00:03:31 advance morning and she was pissed. Kelly Rippa was not happy and then Kelly Rippa just went missing, but she did not go missing. She did not show up to work. She called in sick, I think for several days, they had to scramble for like replacement hosts. Meanwhile, there are paparazzi outside her apartment in New York at all times, like taking photographs of her going back and forth, looking pissed off. And also she, Kelly Rupa pulled one of my favorite moves, which is when the celebrity chooses is a book that relates to the struggle they're going through and then like carries it in such a way that the paparazzi photos will capture the title of the book. Yeah, yeah. So she was reading the Malcolm Gladwell book, David and Goliath? Incredible. Who do you think she thought she was that situation?
Starting point is 00:04:18 Like she's not a David. I mean, so this is, this is a great question in general. And I want to say, I'm team Rippa here. Of course. But a little bit who does Kelly Rippa think she is. Yeah. Like, I think I came into your office yesterday after doing. a deep dive on this and I was kind of like, okay, so I support Kelly Ripup, but why was she mad? Why was she mad? Julia, you had a good answer. Please tell me why she was mad. She was mad because Michael Strayhan started doing appearances on Good Morning America two years ago. And at the time, she told the executives of her show and ABC News in general, because this all falls under Ben Sherwood and ABC News that it was going to be a distraction from Kelly and Michael. She thought it was a bad
Starting point is 00:04:58 idea and it was going to hurt the show. And lo and behold, now he has. has left the show. So it's not really Michael Strayhan's fault, although he's certainly a part of this, obviously, but I just want to say that it's not like he was like acting alone, forcing himself into Good Morning America. So I think very rightfully, she kind of took her, directed her ire at ABC more than her co-host, which also was like kind of like a smart move because like if I was like fuck Tate, I never, I never want to work with him again. And then I still had to work with him for like two months. It'd be really awkward. And we would both be losers from that. That's true. I also, So I read some of a lot of the page six, which had some pretty heavy Kelly Ripa sourcing, I would say, if I had to guess.
Starting point is 00:05:37 Sure. As you mentioned, she found out maybe like five minutes before the news went live. Like Michael Strayhan came to the office, informed her, and then it was out in the universe, which is, as she said, when she came back, not respectful. This is about respect in the workplace, and that is not respectful. I love when celebrities or, like, athletes get into, like, workplace disputes. Because then we can like really relate, you know? It's true. So she was very upset.
Starting point is 00:06:06 And Strehend's position was like ABC told me not to tell anyone. Right. I didn't want to tell anyone, which is kind of like, you know, you were going to side with the suits as opposed to your co-host on that one? That's not cool. It's a real like opportunist move. That's not teamwork. No. Definitely not.
Starting point is 00:06:24 So it was not handled well. No. It's interesting that he was the one who still told her. Like I wonder if you wanted to do that or they made him. Like if you were Michael Strayhan, do you want to be the one telling Kelly Rupa? It's really awkward if your boss's call and are like, this is happening. I guess maybe it deflects the blame, but it doesn't really because he wouldn't be moving without their consent. He could say no.
Starting point is 00:06:48 Like this is a position in which he could say no. Yeah. Is it a better, like, I'm not like really like a daytime TV viewer, which kind of connects to two things. Like if you're Michael Strayhan is this to step up. I mean, I guess he might think so. Let's talk about this for a little because Good Morning America and today's show are sort of like the prestige morning news shows. Sure. Which is an interesting phrase.
Starting point is 00:07:13 Heavily caveat on prestige. Yeah. I guess also let's not forget I think it's CBS this morning, which is my mother's preferred morning show. It's like the mature person's morning show. Well, Charlie Rose is on it now. It's respectable almost. Anyway. So I guess in the sense that.
Starting point is 00:07:29 They address news that isn't like Prince didn't have a will, which was like the main news segment of Michael and Kelly this morning. Let's come back to that also. I learned a lot. But, you know, they talk about things that are going on in the world. Right. And they have major celebrities. I guess not. Kelly and Michael do too.
Starting point is 00:07:48 I guess it's just more respected. And that respected was in quotes. I guess also probably Strayhan could ask for more money because it's more respected. Oh, interesting. Kelly Ripa is making a reported 20 million a year. That's insane. And he was making half that. Okay, so he's pissed.
Starting point is 00:08:07 I guess. But he's also in the NFL. I'm sure he's plenty of riches from that. Okay, yes, great. Let me tell you everything I learned about Michael Strayhan's riches and how he's controlling them in his will this morning on Michael and Kelly, which was like what they talked about at length. So again, going back to Michael and Kelly, which I really enjoyed, and it's honestly just like
Starting point is 00:08:26 a podcast for old people. They sit there with their coffee and they talk about. about like super light news stories. What are their mugs like? They each say, interesting that you asked, they each say live with Kelly and Michael. But they had different mug sizes. Interesting. I think one of them had like the larger kind of friends mug bowl.
Starting point is 00:08:44 And one of them had like I think Kelly Rippa had sort of like a longer like a normal. Interesting. I was watching our friend, Rembert Brown was on the Sunday edition of the Today Show co-hosted, I mean hosted by Willie Geist who's friends of the brother of my friend. So proud of you. Yeah. So I was supporting Libby and Ram by watching. And I noticed that they had great yellow mugs on the Today Show with Willie Geis. Like a very bright, like lemon yellow.
Starting point is 00:09:08 And I was like, I wanted this is a commentary on lemonade. A, it's the day after. But B, I was like, it'd be really fine to choose the mugs for a morning show. These were like midnight blue with yellow lettering. Oh, interesting. And it really made the yellow lettering. That pops probably well for the TV screen. So they honestly, they just have their mugs of coffee.
Starting point is 00:09:25 And they talk about their day and then kind of news story. in an unstructured way, like very much like what's happening between you and me right now, except they're not cursing. And so apparently, like, their big news was that Prince didn't have a will. I didn't know that. They bypassed all the other, like, sort of troubling things about Prince's death, RIP Prince. That was very sad.
Starting point is 00:09:49 Please read more about it in our newsletter. Yes. You can find that on the Ringer social channels at Ringer, Facebook.com slash Ringer. Okay, carry on. Right. Anyway, but they really fixated on the will because he didn't have a will. This led to a poll about whether Kelly and Michael viewers had a will. 61% do not have a will.
Starting point is 00:10:06 Wow. Is that high? Do you have a will? I don't have a will. But like we're young-ish. Well, so what I learned from when Michael read six celebrities who died without wills, which is the list that he read. How was he as a newsreader?
Starting point is 00:10:19 That's crucial to his future. Most people who did not have wills were younger. So it's like not something that you think about until. I guess 57. Did Prince have kids? I don't think so. I had siblings, though. It's like once you have like a family, like that's a time for a will.
Starting point is 00:10:35 So then anyway, Michael Strayhan has been thinking a lot about his will and he shared that he went to the office three days ago to discuss like the kind of the provisions. I think the legal word and his will. And he's changing things, etc. He's talking a lot about. Inspired by Prince. He's talking a lot about his will strategy. And then somehow this.
Starting point is 00:10:59 segues into a whole discussion about how the NFL should provide for players and like provide wills and help them take care of their things. That's kind of a controversial conversation for a former NFL player to have. Exactly. And Kelly Rippa, shout out to Kelly who was like advocating strongly for players rights on all on all she stands with labor. Exactly. And straight hands just like, well, it's complicated and there are all these things. I really, I was impressed that it went there. Wow. that point. I'm impressed that they're still able to do the show together. It's interesting to me that they, they, she know, you know, very pointedly did not direct her anger at him and like even like have,
Starting point is 00:11:39 are like still like going through doing the show. Although he's supposed to leave in September and now he's leaving in May. He's leaving in like two weeks. He's out. That's pretty, I wonder if she was like, he's got to go. If he's not, because if he's not like committed to the project anymore, why would you want him to stay? And it was interesting the timing of that announcement. So she came back yesterday. She gave a pretty good on back speed. she made a statement. Do they show him listening to her at all? The camera work on that whole speech was fantastic, right? So she comes out.
Starting point is 00:12:05 She like gives five minutes about respect in the workplace and how she's earned it. She was like, so I want a gif of her saying respect in the workplace that I can just like send to our coworkers. What may offend you. But so they give this whole speech and it's just on her the whole time. And then she like goes, she's standing. alone and she like walks over to the desk where they're supposed to like where they sit and have coffee and the camera as soon as she's done through speech the camera cuts to the audience and for the entire time where she is like walking over to the table and like greeting michael and be like it's great
Starting point is 00:12:45 to see you etc the camera just like stays on the audience it's 100% does not show any of it and you only hear the awkward audio stuff and you got none of the body language the director was probably like really nervous he was like you know if you're the director of that episode, you were in charge of not, like, fucking up for ABC. Yeah. And so he probably was just like, play it safe, play it safe. What's the safest we can play? Oh, and do it.
Starting point is 00:13:06 Oh, do you know, it wasn't even a good shot of the audience. It was like the camera from the back left corner up top in the studio. So it's like a woman in profile. And then the rest of the like. A woman in profile would be a really good running series. Like a woman in profile, like someone like in the middle of her career, like looking straight ahead or something like that. Yeah. that oh man i this whole the whole thing just sort of brought to light how much people like kelly rippa like
Starting point is 00:13:32 i just feel like everyone wanted to be on her side there's no doubt here maybe she's horrible to work with i highly doubt it but like that could be the case so again i think most of the page six sources are in fact kelly rippa stories sources so this is heavily skewed but um the word is that michael is the difficult one to work with so as a as a dark internet reader which i am michael strahan has been never specifically named but kind of like in the ether of the of internet rumors. He's like, he's a lynch-pin subject of blind items. And never, never confirmed, but there's a lot of people like willing to like imply
Starting point is 00:14:06 that he is not as like wonderful as he may see him on TV. I'm not saying that's true, but that is a common refrain in the kind of like the message boards of blindgossop.com. Also, you just have to say he's walking out on the show. Yeah. So he's not this empathetic character. Also, Kelly Rup is great. I did some reading.
Starting point is 00:14:23 I went through her and her husband's Instagram presences. They seem that they have a nice marriage. They really do. It was their 20th anniversary also. I felt so bad. So that's why she missed work on this past Monday is because she's always planning and taking the day off. Yeah, let's be clear, though.
Starting point is 00:14:36 She went on the lamb for two days and I have nothing but respect for that. She was just like, I am not, you guys fix this on your own. I wonder where she went. Well, where was their honeymoon? They're like their anniversary vacation. Somewhere in the Caribbean. Interesting. They were supposed to go to Turks and Hikos, but maybe that they like relocated,
Starting point is 00:14:52 given the, uh, somewhere a little more closer. And also just like someplace not a lot of. already announced because oh right they don't want to be hounded yeah she's in a bad so i felt sad that their 20th anniversary was sort of ruined by this 20 years is a long time i know especially with someone in show business it's impressive they seem really happy yeah they've got a bunch of kids i read a great andy oh it's in this um l piece there's a really nice piece it was like in 2013 in l um by arena alexander that's a great kelly rippa profile she seems quite lovely she really does everyone said only positive things about her um Annie Cohen has a great quote in it
Starting point is 00:15:26 that I'm trying to find. Okay, take your time. Here it is. They're still really hot for each other. And I mean, they are hot for each other, says Bravo's Cohen, a close friend. They're dot, dot, dot, doing it all the time. I love that in a couple. You know what?
Starting point is 00:15:42 I love that in a couple too. Shout to them. Who doesn't love that? Also, when Andy Cohen's on your side, he really rides for you. He seems like a great friend. Super loyal. I agree. Yeah, I like that.
Starting point is 00:15:52 He's already out here campaigning for Anderson Cooper to replace straight-histor. which also Kelly Ripa is because yesterday she was photographed carrying his book. That would be great. I love, I love the carrying the book as the weird subliminal. That's an interesting idea. Do you have any other suggestions of who should replace Michael? I feel like Neil Patrick Harris has been floated a lot. Yes.
Starting point is 00:16:13 Both on the internet and in our office. That's a good one. That seems great. I am surprised that you have not already suggested James Gordon. Oh, interesting. Well, that would be cross. Oh, same. No, cross network.
Starting point is 00:16:25 He's a CBS man. I don't know. just feel like he's riding really high. Why would he give up his perch as like the new the new king of late night? That's true, but they're both so delightful. The new viral video star. Our British man is a great idea though. Like what if we just, you know, Matthew good? Why not? The wine show with Kelly Matthew and Matthew? Fill those coffee mugs with wine. Like, why not? I would watch it. I don't know. I just feel like, well, I like Kelly Rupa very much and wish her all the success in the world. I don't want to like take someone I really like and banish them to daytime television,
Starting point is 00:16:58 even though it's like known to be a great job. Well, yeah, let's talk about that. It seems like the best job in the world. I also learned from this L profile. Kelly shows up at 8 a.m. Wow. Someone else says her hair and makeup. She rolls on. Eight's very, it's like very okay. Like that's like way better than the today show. Mary Sierra was getting there at 4 a.m. And she's done by like 1030. Yeah. I sue. Yeah, go ahead. What about Joe Biden as her co-host? Oh my God. she's going to be available. That would be incredible.
Starting point is 00:17:28 Another train ride away for him. That's also an incredible ratings move because the number of weird shit that he would say by accident. Yeah. Unbelievable. He would be great. Can you imagine him like trying out all the weird products that they like debut on the show? Like some like face creams and like hand lotion? Or like the wine glass that holds a whole bottle of wine.
Starting point is 00:17:46 Yeah. That would be perfect. I guess it is like a really plum job. $20 million a year. I don't. And you don't work on Fridays. Right. I realized that I don't understand the financials of the television business.
Starting point is 00:17:57 I don't know how Callagrapha could be worth that much money to a network. Do they really get that much an ad dollars from that? Like, I guess, like, is the female demo of 11 a.m. Television, like the most... 9 a.m. 9 a.m. Okay. Yeah. I just don't get it.
Starting point is 00:18:09 I mean, I think it's lucrative enough that the today's show developed a whole hour to compete against it. It's true. I like their hour, too. Listen, I love it. Again, more people who are trying out the wine glass that holds a whole bottle of wine. I'm here for that as television programming. I'm just happy. Kelly Rupa stays winning, I guess. She's making $20 million and she gets to peck her next host.
Starting point is 00:18:29 It's incredible how much fake news programming like attracts the attention of the general public. Like late night shows also fake news. Morning shows, fake news. Kelly and Michael, fake news. It's incredible. Like it's just like a fodder that goes around it. It's like it's literally a cottage industry. Like look at like that guy Bill Carter from The Times.
Starting point is 00:18:47 Yes, that's true. He wrote a whole book about it. Yeah. Yeah. I guess it is. I suppose it's that those people. people are kind of in your home and weird vulnerable hours. Also, like the machinations that go on behind it are so, like, deliberate that it gives
Starting point is 00:19:02 to their on-screen personalities, which is also so fascinating. Like, you know, Matt Lauer and Ann Curry are sitting there just like, you know, doing Halloween segments with like tiny Ewarks. And then they're just like screaming at each other in the background. Where do you stand on the movie Morning Glory with Rachel McAdams? hugely underrated romantic comedy. It's so good. Justice for Patrick Wilson.
Starting point is 00:19:26 I saw it twice in theaters. I've watched it on Netflix several times. I love that movie. I'm so glad you agree. My dad is a huge moviegoer. And every so often, like a thing that he does when you know he really likes a movie, we'll leave a movie and he'll just whisper to me, could that win an Oscar?
Starting point is 00:19:46 And I got that for the Chris Rock Film Top Five. Great movie too. And Morning Glory. My dad was out here writing for Morning Glory as an Oscar. I love it. I agree with him. I deeply agree. We're going to, you know, maybe we'll revisit Morning Glory another time.
Starting point is 00:20:01 It might need its own whole podcast. I think that's it. I'm here for that. Let's move on. But first, let's talk about some of our sponsors this week. Let me tell you about Play-Did. Please do. Played-ed makes cooking awesome meals at home easy and fun.
Starting point is 00:20:15 You don't need to do any meal planning or shopping because they send you everything you need. You can make the most out of everything you need. you can make the most out of every moment in the kitchen and at the table with plated. What you do is go to plated.com slash jam now. That's like, you know, to give us the credit of directing you there. And then you'll get a fantastic offer with your first plated delivery. You can choose from exciting recipes that change weekly. When I did it, I made some chicken, like, this like Asian chicken burgers. And also this, like, I plant parmesan. It was delicious, particularly the chicken burgers. It kind of inspired me to be
Starting point is 00:20:46 making more chicken burgers. I've honestly thought about the chicken burgers. that you reference at least like three times since you told me about them. They were very good. So next you'll get a hand-packed, insulated box with fresh produce, antibiotic-free meats. Everything you need to cook a delicious dinner. Deliver straight to your door. And it's all pre-measured so no food goes to waste. That really is quite helpful.
Starting point is 00:21:04 Then you don't have to get like your measuring spoons dirty. I use mine for coffee in the morning. I only need to wash them once a day. I mean, every week there's like three things I have to throw out of my fridge and I feel. Me too. Horrible. Yeah. We're really bad about that.
Starting point is 00:21:15 That's a whole other topic about how grocery stores need to change their amounts. but we'll get to that another time. Anyway, back to Plated. You just follow the recipe card step by step and get ready to impress your guests. You don't need to be a pro to make amazing dinners. And if you're not home for your delivery, that's totally fine.
Starting point is 00:21:30 I wasn't home in my game. Everything in your plated box stays fresh until midnight on the day it arrives. So just get home by 12. You can do that, right? Remember, if you want to prepare chef quality dinners at right at home in a few simple steps, hurry over to plated.com slash jam now.
Starting point is 00:21:44 You'll get free dinner for two with your first delivery. Free! Seriously, free. I love free food. Go to plated.com slash jam now for terms and details. Again, that's plated.com slash jam. And I'd also like to tell you about SimpliSafe. Please do.
Starting point is 00:21:59 Juliet, would you ever pay for something that makes your life worse? Of course not. I barely want to pay for dinner. That's exactly what these big home security companies will force you to do. First, they'll get you to buy one of those old wired systems. We had those in my home growing up. It was a nightmare and made me scared all the time. Never prevented any burglars.
Starting point is 00:22:17 Did you have a burglary incident? My mother did, actually. Oh my gosh, she didn't have SimpliSafe. Anyway, the security systems will drill a bunch of holes in your walls to install the thing. And if you aren't happy with the results, guess what? You still owe them thousands of dollars because you signed a long-term contract. If you're looking for a security system, go with SimplySafe. SimplySafe got rid of everything wrong with the home security industry.
Starting point is 00:22:43 No drilling. It's wireless. No long-term contracts. no hidden fees. You'll never be stuck paying for something you don't want. And 24-7 monitoring is just $14.99 a month. Three times less than most security company. That seems like a pretty good deal. I don't have a lot to base it on, but I think that seems like a great deal. To feel safe? Yeah. I mean, your safety is priceless, really yet. Thank you, Amanda. Visit simplysafe33.com to get a 10% discount just for listening to this show. That's simplysafe33.com.
Starting point is 00:23:13 I hope with my segue before, I did Morning Glory Proud. Listen, I would invite you to my home at 9 a.m. I actually, Juliet, I will say before we move on, while I was watching Kelly and Michael, I was just like, oh, Julia, I would be so good at this. That's really nice. I'd love to give you a morning show. You could be the Kelly's rotating hosts. I think you'd be very good at it.
Starting point is 00:23:32 Thank you very much. I really appreciate that. That's very kind. In a dark celebrity world, not full of kindness this week. We're going to talk about Melania Trump, but we're also going to talk about the whole Rita or Beyonce, Rachel. Roy Fiasco. I think we're, yeah.
Starting point is 00:23:47 Which is, let's talk about Melania Trump first. Okay. So GQ, you, you tipped me off to a great GQ profile of Melania Trump. GQ published a very, very long. Very long. Profile of Melania Trump. It's really, I really enjoyed it, but I will say may have cut some sections
Starting point is 00:24:01 where I, the editor on that. It's really long. And it's, the length is impressive when you realize that Melania Trump does not speak. And also doesn't do anything. Does nothing, like, and there's really, it's an achievement, how, little she says. Like she just doesn't talk. Right. That's part of her thing. And while I now know a lot about her, I have no interest in knowing more. Like I'm glad I read that article, but I'm just like, okay, that's sufficient.
Starting point is 00:24:25 Yeah, she's interesting. So the article talks a lot about, it talks a lot about her like history growing up in Slovenia, which I thought was nice. I actually liked that. I was like, oh, right. It was a communist country. I forgot. Yeah. And it sort of delves into some possible similarities, shall we say, between Donald Trump and Melania Trump's father, which is always an interesting... Yes, it built a real Freudian case for Melania Trump having married basically her father's doppelganger, both in appearance and temperament and age. Which you and I were talking a little bit about on the walkover.
Starting point is 00:25:01 We both have a hard time understanding those choices, but for different reasons. Yeah, for me, more so than like marrying so much older, like, okay, that happens. like they seem like they had the exact same personality. And that's weird for two reasons. First of all, Donald Trump is in no way likable. Like I have no interest in like hanging out and having a beer with him. He's just like a blowhard maniac. Whatever misogynist. Yes. All of those things. And it's just weird to like, I guess like a lot of women do that. They either like and they marry someone like similar to their father. But this is like so stark. Like he's like a megalomaniac businessman who like breaks the rules. Like one of the best things about the article is like how they come. kind of defied the rules of communism in Slovenia by having like a brightly painted like walls in their home and like actively engaging in capitalism, which is, you know, a beacon of everything being okay and being able to be successful when it's not the case of the country. I see some parallels. Yeah, exactly. Like to me, I was like, oh, that really is just like Donald Trump. Yeah. So I understand personalities. I understand how you end up with similar personalities. Like, yeah.
Starting point is 00:26:11 being someone who is like familiar in temperament and, uh, like the rhythms of interaction. It's just because you learn how to, you learn how to be in a relationship. Yeah. Like, and how to deal with another person through your family. Right. So I, it's like, I get how it happens. Right. And then also you're like, oh, right.
Starting point is 00:26:28 This person would get along with my family. So, okay, I accept them. The age is harder for me to overcome. It's extreme because it's like he's only five years younger than Donald Trump. Right. So, and she is like in her early 30s, the early 30s. So he's like 30 years older, basically. That's a lot.
Starting point is 00:26:44 That's a lot of years. I guess the other thing is that I do not understand the whole piece and every piece of, like, press coverage about Melani in general is that she just seems really calm and 100% disinterested in everything that's going on with her husband. Kind of a great political wife. I guess so. I mean, she's definitely a different political wife. Is that a good move or is that a bad move?
Starting point is 00:27:10 I think for Donald Trump it might be a good move because imagine if he had someone who was like even like wackier. Although I don't know. He's defying everything that I've ever believed in. So I just don't know. I know. But one thing that was really interesting to me was that her Instagram has basically been shut off since his campaign began, which is the opposite of what he's doing.
Starting point is 00:27:27 He does his own tweets and he is like the most over the top on his Twitter feed. Like that's where he has kind of really hammered in a line Ted Cruz. which I was I was cruising his Twitter feed yesterday. Just see where he was at with all that. And it's interesting to me that like that's okay for his campaign. But they've decided that like her like having like this opulent lifestyle, people taking care of her is not okay. Like the public can't know about that. Right.
Starting point is 00:27:52 My favorite, I'll just read a sentence. The last Instagram post before someone said it private was she snapped a parting selfie in a gold mirrored bathroom. The caption, bye. I'm off to my hashtag. summer residence. Oh my God. Which is incredible and ridiculous. And of course you can't get away with that in terms of being relatable in American politics. But he's not relatable anyway. I know. I mean, you know, the inherent misogyny of like he can do whatever she wants. He wants and she has to be silenced.
Starting point is 00:28:25 And she's okay with that. Right. Which I guess, I don't know. I'm not trying to police other women's behaviors. Sure. Do what you want to do. It was interesting. The one thing that she felt like really like said on everyone knowing that she doesn't have a nanny, like among all of the, like luxuries of her life. She doesn't have a nanny. But it's in the same sentences. I have a chef and something else, but I don't have a nanny. Right.
Starting point is 00:28:44 So you have all of the other jobs filled so that's, you actually don't have any work for a nanny to do. Yeah. It was, it's, it's an interesting dynamic. I mean, if, if Hillary and Donald Trump get the nominations, then you have, you have Bill Clinton versus Melania Trump in terms of this first spouses. They should debate each other. I wonder who would win.
Starting point is 00:29:05 I wonder who went. I legit think she would win. He might be distracted by her because he's also a misogynist. Also, he would say something dumb as he like inevitably does. Yeah. I love Bill Clinton, but like, sir. I know. You've had your time.
Starting point is 00:29:19 What a reality we're living right now. I can't, I can't believe it. It's pretty crazy. The other thing about the Melania Trump article is that like she, they made it seem like she was kind of like always bound to be famous, which is interesting. The article, I wonder, I wonder how much they kind of like, you know, they're going hard on some of her lifestyle choices, but they had all these quotes from people who knew her when she was in Slovenia
Starting point is 00:29:40 about how she was exceptional in terms of like literally being unlike everyone around her. And it's kind of like, if you're destined for greatness, does that mean she's achieved it by being Donald Trump's wife? Like, or could she have been a lot more? I mean, it was interesting.
Starting point is 00:29:55 They say in the article that her former high school is going to erect a permanent exhibit to her because she's like the most famous former graduate. And I think that really is just for. being she was a model she wasn't a particularly successful model she debates that she says that she was in quote the best catalogs which like i'm not trying to model shame here but we all know runway models are the real models catalogs are second tier yeah achievement is being married to donald trump is just like a it's upsetting it's upsetting that yeah particularly because she also like went to design school she like was almost going to be a designer and she got derailed she has a
Starting point is 00:30:33 I don't rely on QVC. Oh, she does? Very well, yeah. That's another industry that I don't understand the financials. How lucrative is the QBC world? Well, Juliet, I saw the film Joy. Okay. And it seems like Joy's doing very well.
Starting point is 00:30:47 And I have her hangers, which I hardly recommend. Yeah, I hardly recommend them. They were sent to me. Sorry. Oh. Cool. But like, can you buy them online or only through QBC? So I just feel like the internet probably really killed that industry.
Starting point is 00:31:00 It's something that I need to look into a little bit more. Yeah, you would think so. but then think about all of the, you would also think that the internet killed Kelly and Michael, not to, like, call back too much. But there are a lot of things that exist for people who are not 28. Totally. It's true.
Starting point is 00:31:15 Like, kind of like the background noise phenomenon. Like, HGTV is the background noise for like our generation in this moment. I'm sure that will shift. But I'm sure for a lot of people who are just home at 9 o'clock, let's see, yeah, Kelly Michael. It's like hanging out with my friends. Like you said, it's like listening to a podcast. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:31:27 I like TV shows that don't require your full attention. Like, there's a time and a place for them, you know? It's true. There are too many of the thing TV shows that require your full attention. I know. This is a good segue way because the one thing that has like really captured my full attention more than anything else in recent memory is lemonade and everything that's going on around it.
Starting point is 00:31:45 Yeah. Let's do a quick two seconds. Lemonade review. Sure. Fantastic. Yeah, it was great. Like I have a complicated relationship to Beyonce personally. Okay.
Starting point is 00:31:57 However. However, lemonade was like really impactful and like really. significant and great music. Fantastic music. Fantastic. Like, the movie, I watched it with my, with my fiancee, which just like, lemonade is about more than infidelity and it is more about Jayzie and Beyonce's relationship. But let me tell you, like, if you're about to get married to someone, do not watch lemonade
Starting point is 00:32:23 with that. Like, a pro tip from me to you. You keep walking into these traps of like things to not watch. I really want you to watch the affair because I think you're going to like it, but wait like a year. catch up with season three. I watch two seasons in a row. Just wait a while. Anyway.
Starting point is 00:32:38 Just avoid, please don't watch Lemonade with your significant other. Watch it in your own time when you have, like with your full attention. So you can think about all of the political and racial and I guess emotional issues that are like raised beautifully in lemonade. Totally. It's like a really significant piece of art and media. Absolutely. And then of course, you know, the internet like took a. like took it to shit.
Starting point is 00:33:03 It's just like everything went nuts. Right. So in, uh, sorry, our favorite song. Yes. She mentioned, sorry is the best song of the album. Like, don't at me. It's really good. It's really, really good.
Starting point is 00:33:15 Um, she mentions Becky with a good hair. Yes. Who's like someone that Jay Z. Cheed them with. And very quickly, the internet thought that was Rachel Roy. Because Rachel Roy did an Instagram about her. Right. Okay.
Starting point is 00:33:26 Good hair don't care. The internet thought it was Rachel Roy because Rachel Roy posted on Instagram, good hair don't care like Rachel Roy identified herself she was also a rumored paramour of jZ is when the whole elevator incident went down yeah and she was married to damon dash jazzy's former partner exactly um and she to me she's like the most famous the most famous the most famous thing most note worthy thing about her was that she worked on like amari stadmeyer's fashion line when he like first came to the next which just tells you like she's not really that relevant so i think she must be loving this moment. Well, she was for like 10 minutes. Yes. And she immediately, on Saturday night,
Starting point is 00:34:05 like the same night, she posts this on Instagram, like with full knowledge. Anyone who's telling me that it's coincidence is wrong. She knew exactly what she was doing. And I think she probably felt good for about five minutes. And then the beehive came for her. Oh my God, did they ever? They came with their emojis. They came with the emojis. So I feel like Chris and Annie were talking a little bit about, you know, emoji songs. Yeah. Obviously, lemonade. it owes at least like 5% of its success to the lemon emoji. Yeah, I mean, Beyonce's got two emojis. She got the bee and a lemon.
Starting point is 00:34:35 It's really, really savvy. Lemons everywhere. Yeah, and so her fans put lemons all over Rachel Roy's Instagram and Rachel Roy's daughter's Instagram. First of all, I don't know Rachel Roy had a daughter. I didn't either. I felt that that was that was bad. That's she just.
Starting point is 00:34:49 Leave children alone. Leave children out of this beehive. If you're a celebrity parent, though, also I think you must instruct your child to have a private account. That's very, very true. Like, don't leave that shit open. It's a lot of mistakes were made here. Yes.
Starting point is 00:35:01 Mistakes were made, the story of Rachel Roy. Okay, so then we breeze past Rachel Roy in like 24 hours. Wait, hold on. I just want to say, eventually she sets her Instagram to private and then she has to, I'm going to read this tweet. Please do. I respect love, marriages, families, and strength. What shouldn't be tolerated by anyone no matter what is bullying of any kind. Agreed, Rachel.
Starting point is 00:35:21 Great. And how it's about bullying. Okay. No. Now that this episode of Glee is concluded. So then Rita Orra has also been a tabloid fixture for a few years for really no reason because she has very little American success to call on. She is very popular in the UK.
Starting point is 00:35:39 I'll give her that. I mean, so is everyone. Sure. Lower barrier. Lower bar there. Of course. And so Rita Orra is also part of Rock Nation. It's not really happened for her.
Starting point is 00:35:49 It's probably never going to. I think she did it Calvin Harris before Taylor Swift. I think so. She also had an ill-fated relationship. with Robert Kardashian. Yes. Did she also date Jay Cole, perhaps? Sorry, Aesab Rocky.
Starting point is 00:36:02 Okay, Tate's on it. I'm jealous. Tate, where are you on Rita Oara? All right, Tate just put two thumbs down. I'm jealous of Ruta O'A now, but because I think Aesb Rakey's so beautiful. The most beautiful person on there. He just is just so, he's strikingly gorgeous. Incredible.
Starting point is 00:36:19 He has a perfect face. Like, it's overwhelming. Can't look away. I know. People are trying to talk about his music. I'm just like, no, no, no, no, no. The aforementioned Remberg came over recently, and we watched Aesab Rocky videos for like an hour. Great.
Starting point is 00:36:31 And we both were just like, God, this guy's beautiful. It's mesmerizing. It really is overwhelming. So, anyway, Rita Oara, she sucks. And she has also been rumored to have, like, had an affair, something with Jay's Zaid. I mean, those rumors are true for almost everyone who signed to Rockney. Right.
Starting point is 00:36:46 I mean, not true, but their rumors exist. It's been said about Jay and everyone. It's said about Rihanna since, uh, Pond, reply, basically. Right. Since they signed her. So who knows if it's true. on Rita Ora seizing the moment decided to wear the same dress that Beyonce wears on top of the car in the formation video. It's like a red silk dress that I happen to love and looks great on Beyonce.
Starting point is 00:37:07 And I was going to say it did not look good on Rita Ora. Nope. I just didn't. It's a tough dress to pull off, I think. It's it did not look great. It was not a good luck. Also like Rita Ora's style is like revealing. Like what's your like what's my style?
Starting point is 00:37:21 It's like made well. Like Rita Isles, Rita Oras is. just like something like missing cloth like showing off her body it's whatever riana said no to yeah a lot a lot of like show clothing that like clearly you would never like buy that in a store and whatever fine rita orra but this is this dress just didn't really fit her style and she tried to make it fit her style but like leaving many the buttons unbuttoned and then it just looked messy it's not a dress for messiness you know it's very structured and tailored and reader or couldn't pull it off gtfo rita orra Here's the thing.
Starting point is 00:37:55 What do either of these people think they're doing? Like, how is this a good choice? How do you think that like inserting yourself into this conversation and like making it about you? I agree with you. When everyone is so out. How is that a good idea? Like what's going on through their minds?
Starting point is 00:38:13 What, what are they thinking? It's so 101 dumb. I know. It really, it's also just like frustrating because like Rita Orris contributions to culture are basically nil. and Beyonce's like her or dislike her, there's so much to, like, discuss. Like, she's polarizing for a reason, you know?
Starting point is 00:38:28 She's not even that polarizing. She's like so many fans. Also, just like, you know, and I know that I was talking about kind of the tension of watching a film about infidelity with someone who getting married. But the fact that we're making about this trashy gossip stuff instead of about all of like the issues about, like, race and black women and Black Lives Matter that are in Lemonade or about the music,
Starting point is 00:38:49 which is fantastic. And instead we have to be like be sitting here talking about Rachel Roy. Like we've already given Rachel Roy too much time. Are we part of the problem and not the solution? I think probably. Okay. Well, let's just call it. And in conclusion, please go watch Lemonade on your own.
