Starting point is 00:00:05 Welcome to Jam Session. I'm Julia Lippman. I'm Amanda Dobbins. Exciting stuff this week. I've been looking forward to this for a long time. It's a time to officially discuss America's sweethearts. J-Lo and A-Rod. J-Rodd. It is extremely exciting. They are on the cover of Vanity Fair. They are indeed. They also recently were featured in an article on the ringer.com, a website you may have heard of. I have. That's true. I'm really, really, really into this couple. As off discussed, I really loved Athlach and Garner, have been looking for a new couple to love. And I have found it in J-Lo and Arod.
Starting point is 00:00:39 And I don't know, the Vanity Fair article is just so wonderful. What was your favorite part of it? Oh, God. Okay. There are many favorite parts. The working out together was a really great moment. In Vegas. In Vegas. So they're in Vegas because Jennifer Lopez has a residency there. Yes. It was interesting that every single aspect of this profile has definitely chosen to highlight one of their business interests. They're hustlers. I support it. She's worth $300 million. It's fantastic. So anyway, they're in Vegas because of the residency. But then they also need to go work out at a company that seems sort of like class pass. Yes. That Arod has invested in. But they're all like in the same place, I think, was the impression I got. Yes, exactly. So it's a lot of different types of workouts. It's like a gym that only has classes. Right. And they're all in one place, but it's a lot of different. Yeah. So you can get your Zumba and your like kettle balls. And it's called True Fusion. And it's called True Fusion. And it's a lot. offers more than 65 styles of instruction in 35 to 40 daily classes and yoga, Pilates, kettlebell exercises, and battle rope workouts and heated rooms. I've never even heard of that.
Starting point is 00:01:43 Right. So you, Juliet, had asked me, why do you think they worked on in Vegas? Yes. And it is because there is, in fact, not a true fusion in Los Angeles where they originally did the article and they needed to promote it for the piece because they are in love, but also a business. Yes. Their love is a business. Which I admire. I do too. They really have figured it all out. So I really enjoyed when they made the, we should also highlight, I thought this article
Starting point is 00:02:10 was very well done. Me too. Written by Bethany McLean, and who bravely goes to a workout session with Jennifer Lopez. I cannot imagine. I just can't. I honestly, at some point she says that she doesn't know what's going on and J-Lo is very encouraging, which is not surprising. And then that J-Lo starts singing during the workout.
Starting point is 00:02:28 How stressed are you about your workout outfit when you go to a class? I do not go to workout classes because I'm afraid of my outfit. Can we talk about this for a second? Sure. Because are you familiar? We've talked about Busy Phillips's Instagram before. She does this class called Lechfit regularly on the Instagram. And it involves kind of some trampoline stuff and some weightlifting.
Starting point is 00:02:50 It looks like peppy, but still fun. It's apparently only an hour. And it's not far from our office. Oh. So the number of times, Juliet, that I've opened the Lechfit website and been like, oh, maybe I'll go. I want to try it. Yeah, but I don't have anything to wear. And if you're on a trampoline, then you can't be wearing loose clothing.
Starting point is 00:03:08 No. It has to be. You know, any standax. And I'm not ready for that. I would agonaginize. I would certainly buy a new outfit for working out with J-Lo. And I don't really, I'm like a very like $30 max per item of workout clothing. I would go over the top for J-Lo.
Starting point is 00:03:23 I think I would probably go all Nike too. I was thinking about the moment when I inevitably am not in good enough shape to keep up with J-Lo. Sure. I mean, I'm not. I've never been in good enough shape. I know, but what are you going to do? Because I can't imagine being there in the room and being like, yeah, okay, I'll just sit this one out, which is what I do in every other workout class, which is why I don't go to workout classes. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:03:42 I would only do one that was in a dark room that like... So soul cycle. A lot of cycling classes are dark. So not just soul cycle. But like spinning, I think, is usually a dark room. Barris is dark too. It is? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:03:54 How do you not trip? It's like, damn. They just turn the lights down. I would fall over immediately. This is my other concern. It's like, if I don't take. a break, then I'm suddenly, like, passing out next to J-Lo. Yeah, I just can't imagine.
Starting point is 00:04:05 And then it's ludicrous. She's known for, like, being fit in, like, her body. Yeah. It sounds alarming. But another thing about this article that's been haunting me the last couple of days is it's mentioned multiple times that J-Lo doesn't drink. Right. J-Lo looks amazing in these photographs.
Starting point is 00:04:22 And she is one of the most beautiful women in the world, and that is in large part because of genetics. But I definitely think it has something to do with the effects. that she doesn't drink and works out all the time. Yeah. And I was like, oh. And they didn't mention it, but they definitely have a private chef. Like, definitely.
Starting point is 00:04:37 Well, sure. Several. In each of their cities. Because that's another, that's, like, contributing factor as well. If I had a private chef to cook me delicious, delicious vegan meals, I'd be happily vegan. I would still be unhappy. I'd maybe have, like, chicken and, like, sea bass.
Starting point is 00:04:49 It's like vegan plus chicken. That's what you're adding. If you get, like, a vegan plus one and chicken is your pick? Still light. It'd have to be, like, local fish, like, local non-factory farm chicken. I'm definitely going with dairy before. Chicken. Interesting. Cheese. Yeah. JLo doesn't have cheese. She probably hasn't had cheese in like years. No. And that's why her skin looks amazing. Yeah. It's tough. It's really tough. I was reminded by this. I was really taken by the logistics of her lifestyle. And I've got a lot of questions. Yes. Go. Because they met in L.A. She is often in L.A. because she's on filming stuff. She has to go to Las Vegas regularly because by filming stuff, I mean her show shades of blue and maybe movies. She goes to Vegas for her residency. But she mentioned that her kids. are in school in New York, which really caught my eye because you also, they go to their home in,
Starting point is 00:05:36 I think, Bel Air here in L.A. And J-Lo is like, this is where I want my kids who grow up. I was like, well, J-Lo, they're not growing up here. They're growing up in New York where they go to school. And then A. Rod has two daughters. Very famously, he a couple of months ago was prepping for a Yankees game. And I think Fox Sports took a picture of, like, him prepping. And it caught his notebook and on it he very much was like had like scribbled notes to himself and one of them said child colon which is incredible birth control baby pull out stuff so presumably erod was like planned to talk to someone maybe his daughters about birth control in various methods to guardians having an unwanted pregnancy.
Starting point is 00:06:26 Give me three other people that Arod could be talking to about various birth control methods, including the pullout. J-Lo. Great point. Though child, colon. This definitely reads to me like there's a to-do list and it's kind of like work, colon, you know, self-improvement colon, child, colon, home, colon. It's just incredible.
Starting point is 00:06:47 The first thing I did when we got this Vanity Fair article is that I control left for birth control. And the one failing of this article is that it does. not mention the notepad extravaganza of 2017. I know. Like, what were they thinking? We really needed that article in here. Nonetheless,
Starting point is 00:07:04 he mentions his daughters who live in Miami. And whenever they're like, what's your, like, most important business? He's like, my girls. Very good answer in this. Very good.
Starting point is 00:07:13 Which will come back to. So we've now covered four cities that they have, like, legitimate ties to you and that they're regularly in. I have no answers, but I have some theories. Okay.
Starting point is 00:07:21 Because my questions are, how often do they even see each other? Okay. How much do they see their kids? Okay. What's their primary residence? Okay. And will they shift primary residences?
Starting point is 00:07:31 Okay. You've highlighted all the important issues. Thanks. So clue number one, she and I are sitting on a stone patio at Lopez's new house in Bel Air. So I'm sure that she had a Los Angeles base forever because before she did shades of blue, she was on American Idol. Yes. But this is possibly, this is a new home, and it is possible that at some point she may locate the children here. Okay.
Starting point is 00:07:54 I'm opening that idea. Sure. Don't know for sure. Okay. She could also just go back and forth between L.A. and New York a fair amount. So the children, she has twins with her ex-husband. Mark Anthony. And I assume that he is based in New York or someone is based in New York.
Starting point is 00:08:08 And, you know, it's possible that they share custody on a week-to-week basis. Her family is still in New York, I think. Yes, exactly. So she could be there during the week. Okay. And home on the weekends in L.A. Okay. Or maybe he has custody while they're filming while she's filming the show.
Starting point is 00:08:24 Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm, mm-hmm. Maybe they could film some of it. Do we know that they film all of the, of Shades of Blue here? We don't know they film all of it, but she says that they met while she was working on Shades of Blue because she says that, like, the first time they saw each other, like, with that started them dating, she was in her costume, which I also found weird. Like, who leaves the set and stays in costume. Right. So it appears that actual filming for Shades of Blue is in New York. Oh. So she could have been doing promo stuff or post, you know, all of the things that happen when you make a television show, as you and I know. Yeah. So I guess she's in New York, based in New York, which makes sense. They tend to do that for people of Jalo's stature. Sure.
Starting point is 00:08:59 So I guess Bel Air is for all of the L.A. appointments that she has to have. Right. And also, Brittany Spears famously just flies in and out for her Las Vegas residency. Yeah. And J.Lo probably does that too, which made me even more confused, but why they're even working out in Vegas. Right. Because I'm just like, just go back to L.A. I think that the night before she worked out with the Vanity Fair writer in Las Vegas was the first night that Jennifer Lopez had spent in Las Vegas in 2017. She's definitely 100% commuting. Yeah, I would too. Okay.
Starting point is 00:09:26 Easy flight. So now we got to factor in A-Rod, though. Yeah, so A-Rod's kids, I think, are in Miami. Yeah, and we'll show the house a minute. Why wouldn't you be? He just because of broadcast stuff has been traveling. Yeah, and then Fox Sports is based in L.A. Okay.
Starting point is 00:09:40 And he's Fox Sports Broadcast. So I'm guessing that the answer here is that they are not seeing each other that much. Right. Or as much as you and I would expect to see. I definitely see you more than Jay or. And A-Rod see each other. Yes, that's very true. We see each other five days a week.
Starting point is 00:09:57 They don't. So I finally found some great information on Elizabeth Chambers' wife of Army Hammer, a perennial interest of mine, as you know. But she was saying they have a four-day rule, which is a much shorter version of the two-week rule that a lot of movie stars and other traveling professional people have where you're not allowed to be apart for more than two weeks. In this case, four days.
Starting point is 00:10:17 So maybe they have some sort of four-day rule. What does Elizabeth Chambers have to do that's keeping her away from Armyhammer anyway? She owns a bakery. in San Antonio. We'll have another conversation about this. The point is it's possible, you know, that they're rendezvousing in either Miami, L.A. or in York on a regular basis. Right. Okay. That makes sense. Weekends together. Sure. They spent a lot of weekends in the Hamptons this summer. I guess they could just pick a place to meet and stay there. Who do you follow, A-Rod or J-Lo,
Starting point is 00:10:44 or both? I just check in on either. Nice. That's the kind of Instagramming I prefer when I'm going to go to someone's feed and actually spend some time. Sure. Taking it all in. forming a narrative. Absolutely. Yeah. I love that kind of work. It's important to do for both celebrities and non-celebrities.
Starting point is 00:10:59 People are just interested in keeping up with. Yeah. It's a lot. I really like both of them based on this article. I do too. It's actually very hard to not root for J-Lo. A-Rod's a little more complicated and we'll get into that. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:11:10 But what has she ever done wrong? Like, what are knocks and knocks against her? I mean, that's like a rhetorical advice that we should probably never, you know, you never know what comes out of someone's closet. But she is an all-time. Dating. and being involved in the shine. Situation is probably the low point.
Starting point is 00:11:25 Right. That was not great. I'm not going to blame her for that, though. Yeah. She is one of our greats. She really is. The wedding planners is on my favorite movies.
Starting point is 00:11:32 Of your and my lifetimes, probably a top ten. Yeah. And I liked how much the article emphasized how she's self-made. It's totally true. Yes. Spanning music, film,
Starting point is 00:11:44 television. Fashion. And I think makeup. Yeah, really everything. Yeah, she's a mogul. And she was also kind of the first meme, if you think about the green dress. Totally.
Starting point is 00:11:54 She has covered every aspect of the culture, as we know it. Also, she's got a lot of baby hairs, and I just love it. So real. What? Like, in the video that she's sitting in, she does. Did I misunderstand? No. In the video where she and Alex Rodriguez were talking about their preferences and stuff,
Starting point is 00:12:14 she's got all these baby hairs. Like, just look. They're in the front. Oh, like flyways. Yeah. Okay. I love it. I really thought you were saying, like, Baby Harris.
Starting point is 00:12:23 I didn't understand what was going on. No, baby Harris. Okay. So it's just so natural, normal. Yeah, she is approachable despite being worth $300 million and being one of the most famous and successful pop hyphenates. Pop, yes. Of our Jedi-hyphenate. I'm really rooting for them.
Starting point is 00:12:39 So let's talk about A-Rod for a second. Sure. And to do that. Yeah, let's bring on our colleague, Katie Baker. But first, let's talk about Hotel Tonight, our sponsor. Let us tell you about this amazing. hotel booking app Hotel Tonight. Basically, Hotel Tonight teams up with great hotels to sell them their unsold rooms, which means there are always incredible deals available. And these aren't last
Starting point is 00:13:01 resort places. They're cool, top-rated hotels you actually want to stay in. Not to mention, there are a ton of awesome partner hotels in so many different countries so Hotel Tonight can help you find a great hotel almost anywhere. Whether you want to spend the weekend away on a whim or book something like for a cool staycation, very popular here in L.A., hotel tonight is just there to help you be a little bit more spontaneous. Or if you're the type who likes to plan ahead and have things locked down, you can actually book a room in advance with the hotel tonight, up to seven days in advance, everywhere,
Starting point is 00:13:28 and up to 100 days in advance in certain major cities. Whether you need a room for tonight, tomorrow, or beyond, you definitely want to download the Hotel Tonight app now. I'm thinking of using mine for some kind of like short trip into L.A. area soon. I love Ohio. You should try that. I was thinking about Ohio. I've never been. Got some good options on the app. Oh, great. Good to know.
Starting point is 00:13:46 And since you can even book in advance, it's not just for last minute getaway. all it takes is 10 seconds, three taps in a swipe. See for yourself, download the Hotel Tonight app now. And now, let's talk to Katie. Hi, Katie. How's it going? Hello, friends.
Starting point is 00:13:59 It's good. How are you? Great. We're just talking J-Lo and A-Rod, and you are a certified expert after spending time with both of them. So we got some questions for you. Let's hear it. Well, Katie, can you explain the circumstances under which you were in the presence of both
Starting point is 00:14:14 A-Rod and J-Lo in the past month? Yeah. So I've been trying to write something about A-Rod for like a year now, basically. And after going through all of his various channels and networks and shows and publicists and getting no response, the great people at Fox Sports were happy to let me in for a day to see the MLB on Fox show, where he is an analyst and a very entertaining analyst, in my opinion. So I spent a day down in L.A. at the Fox Studios during game two of the ALCS baseball series. Katie, who was playing in that?
Starting point is 00:14:58 Just trying to give our listeners some context. This is the New York Yankees, who I think even your listeners might be familiar with. I just did a deep dive into Aaron Judge's girlfriend yesterday, in case you're wondering. Oh, that's excited. Erin Judge is the large adult son? Yes, she's 22. She went to the University of Michigan, and she's from New Jersey. Jersey. Okay. Yeah, he's the extremely large adult son with a baby face. And the Houston Astros, who
Starting point is 00:15:25 who won the series. So Arod played for the Yankees. So he was, he was extremely excited about the Yankees potential, although they did not win. And yeah, my presence with J-Lo was limited to FaceTime. But I have to say, I was... Wait, can you just give us a... second by second breakdown of your face-time interaction with Jennifer Lopez. This is the moment. So what I am not sure of is whether there's two things that happened. Either she called him. We were like probably, as A-Rod would say, we were probably in the first inning of the interview.
Starting point is 00:16:08 And when suddenly there just started to be a FaceTime conversation, I didn't hear the phone ring or anything like that. So I still wonder whether she called him or he called her. And the only reason why I see the potential for the latter option is that he, I was reading a Hollywood reporter article about him. And in the Hollywood reporter article, he FaceTime says J-Lo and says hello to the reporter. So like this might be part of his track. Oh, interesting.
Starting point is 00:16:43 I'm not entirely, yeah. But yeah, they began face-timing. They were about to have a big benefit concert that night for Puerto Rico for the hurricane. So she was like in the dressing room. I think he asked her how the cold play rehearsal had gone. Like you do. Yeah, he was nervous. He wanted to rehearse with her in some capacity when he got there.
Starting point is 00:17:09 And she was kind of like, you're not going to have enough time. And then he hung up on. her kind of, you know, preemptively. It was one of those like hang up while the person is still talking. So rude. And he got really upset. I'm really like ashamed. I think this is a common issue in their relationship. Incredible. She called her back immediately. They both had this inside joke about a quick trigger finger. I felt like I felt like that was the truest part of the, of the, you know, it kind of reminded me of how like, I'm keeping up with the Kardashians. Like obviously, the entire construct around them is very, like, crazy and celebrity. But the actual, like, person-to-person
Starting point is 00:17:51 interactions are very pure and true. And I felt like that was one of those moments. I'm glad to hear you say that, because, like, having the FaceTime be a bit makes me worry about the future of their relationship. And I'm just hanging on for dear life to this couple. I love them. And I want it to be real. I want to be real, too. I'm curious whether you guys already discussed what your favorite photo was from the magazine. No, we didn't. Thank you for bringing it up. I've definitely got an answer.
Starting point is 00:18:19 Katie, you go first. Okay. Well, I mean, I love the one with the car in the background and their outfits is iconic. But I noticed in one of them there's what I'm pretty sure is the item that he judged on Shark Tank, which was like a protein shake ice mixer. Hawks by the Grancowski brothers. Incredible.
Starting point is 00:18:44 And the version that they have is like be dazzled. I believe it says Jailo on it. Yes. And I believe it says Jal on it as well.
Starting point is 00:18:52 And I went and cross-checked it because I think A-Rod has a special A-Rod one and I'm almost positive it's the same products because the top is the same.
Starting point is 00:19:01 So just that I just really felt like that attention to detail really saying to me. That's very much. So Katie, that's in the photograph of J-Lo in the green sweatsuit, correct?
Starting point is 00:19:14 I believe so. Yeah. She's holding a weight. That is also my favorite photograph, and I got to tell you, she looks fantastic, but the A-Rod strike in a pose in that particular photo is really transcendent. We need to talk about turtlenecks. Okay, let's go. A lot of turtlenex in this whole shoot.
Starting point is 00:19:33 A-Rod is wearing several of them, unless he just doesn't change, but I think it's actually different one that he's wearing a few different times. And then also they do this video that Kate, that Amanda and I were discussing before. And he's wearing a turtleneck. And Arod primarily lives in Miami and L.A. as far as they can tell. It's not really a turtle neck. Although I am wearing one today. I was about to say, I'm sitting across from Gilemon and she's wearing a lovely striped turtleneck. It's a lightweight turtle neck. Yeah. His are like a heavy net. The question is, is the turtleneck rib. Yes, his are. Katie, what was... Yeah, his are. Mine's not, no.
Starting point is 00:20:09 But my favorite photo was the one of the car in the background because I really relate to living in L.A. And like one, just like wear whatever the fuck you want, regardless of the weather. And that's what they're doing. He's dressed for like a chilly November evening in New York. And she's wearing like leather pans appropriate for no one but a rock star. But she is basically. So great job. But it's just like such a ridiculous photo.
Starting point is 00:20:33 I thought you were going to say I really relate to everything that's in this. picture, which is of her giant Bel Air Mansion with like the scenic palm trees behind it and a very expensive car. I wish I could relate to that. Yeah. What a good life. It's like their version of like the pumpkin patch photo. Totally. I also like the lead photo of them in bed where she's like on his back. Very cute. Yeah. I felt like that was the most like he it's weird with him because he for someone who's been in the spotlight for so long, he still seems like weirdly stilted in front of a camera. Yeah. Like, it's like, it's like how I am in front of a camera.
Starting point is 00:21:11 Like, I know that the camera's on me. I'm, like, feeling awkward. I make weird angles of my face. And he's Arod. Like, he should be past that. I will say, like, she looks so svelte. He looks like a retired athlete, you know? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:21:25 What was he like in person? Okay. The thing with him is, like, I'll give an example. We've been talking for quite some time, like a good 20 minutes. And he started telling a story and he said, Katie. And then he paused and really seriously was like, do you mind if I call you Katie? And like, I just will never forget that moment. And it's like, it's so like affected, but it's not, but it also is weirdly genuine.
Starting point is 00:21:55 It's like, I just feel like with a lot of things he does, he's so, and he'll say this. Like, he's, he's kind of just like an imitator. Like he tries to speak out smart people and hear what they have to say and do what they do. And he definitely has, it's not necessarily a chip on his shoulder, but he never went to college. And because he went kind of straight from high school to the pros. And he has this weird, like, he wants to be educated. It's like, I think he's, you know, done some schooling since. Like, he wants to make up for a last time.
Starting point is 00:22:31 He mentioned that I had gone to college, like, once or twice. so he's very like aware of those things and as a result and you can see this in his broadcasting as well like it's like you can you can see him sitting in like the media training session where they tell you okay now turn to camera too now say fellas now do this and he keeps it all in his head and he really does it um like before the interview started i started launching into my questions and he was like tell me a little bit about yourself and i'm sure he does that whatever everyone he meets. I guess at that point
Starting point is 00:23:07 we weren't on a Katie basis because he didn't say my name. But, you know, but that's truly, like, how he seems to be. Like, I don't think it's an act. I think it's, and that's kind of what makes him unusual
Starting point is 00:23:21 in the sense of, like, he spent so many years as this baseball villain. I was hoping you could, like, explain how remarkable this turnaround is. Like, from steroid user to dating Madonna to now, we all want to love him.
Starting point is 00:23:36 Yeah, I mean, an example with Arod is that even as he was going through this whole, like one of his kind of several steroid related controversies, the basis of all of it was like this weird South Florida kind of ring of people that all came together at a tanning salon. And so there's just always these really absurd details that goes along with everything he does. But, you know, he dated Cameron Diaz for a while, and she would, they were, like, caught on camera at a football game, and she was feeding him popcorn. And there's just always these little side notes. And he really was a hated individual. He had the biggest contract. He had, you know, this kind of super agent, Scott Boras, who I think was always making big demands. He was kind of the foil to Derek Cheater, who everyone thought of as, like, you know, a merit.
Starting point is 00:24:32 his boy and um and now it's almost like flip-lop. Peter's down in Miami. People like don't like his handling of the Miami Marlins and, um, and Arod. I think it's just because he does, he's never been fully a heel. Like he's ever been a this like horrible mean, bad person who embraces being the villain. He's always like kind of, he cares what people thinks about him. And it comes through. Like there's that little bit of like almost insecure.
Starting point is 00:25:02 which I think makes them relatable. But yeah, this really has been quite a turnaround. I mean, even, you know, our esteemed leader Bill Simmons, who is, like, as big of an anti-Arod person as anyone for many years, even he admits that he does a really good job analyzing baseball because he's such a baseball super nerd, like, used to go home after Yankees games and watch the replay of the program and then comment on it to the play-by-play guy the next day.
Starting point is 00:25:35 Like, no one else does that, at least. That's so great. Such a great nerd. I love it. It's pretty, pretty dark that he, he, the Vanity Fair article acknowledges, shockingly to me, that the reason his marriage ended was because he was cheating with Madonna, which I find, like, remarkable celebrity profiles often don't get specific like that.
Starting point is 00:25:57 The other thing is that, I believe his relationship with Kate Hudson, had like some weird Madonna hangups where he kept calling her or something the Madonna thing's funny to me because she was at least like a decade older than him and I don't know exactly when the time frame was when they dated it was probably like the mid-odd
Starting point is 00:26:20 so I'm kind of curious like where she was in her life at that point I mean the brief romance with what's your name and which is Oh, wow, I'd forgotten about that. Thank you. With who? I'm probably mispronouncing her last name. Like, Sergei Brenz. Oh, yeah. Oh, my God. I forgot about that as well. Thank you for, yes, thank you for bringing it up. He's just a curious guy. Oh, my God. I love it. That is like my favorite part because I'm sure he was like so fascinated by the tech world and by like going to tech parties and furrowing his brow and talking. to people about what they do.
Starting point is 00:27:04 Yeah. Wow. He's a legend. He contains multitudes. Yeah, like, I just really want him and Taylor to work out. I do too. I really do, too. During the baseball thing the other day, they showed her.
Starting point is 00:27:17 She was, like, awkwardly sitting in that folding chair, like, five feet from the studio set on location at a baseball game. And she looked a little, like, unhappy to be on camera. And I started to get really worried that maybe all this exposure was, like, getting to them. Too much. And then I saw the magazine, yeah, the magazine cover. And I thought, okay, well, she wouldn't be doing these photo shoots if she didn't feel strongly.
Starting point is 00:27:40 You know, but then there's obviously the kind of reminder that she, you know, did the Jenny from the block video with Bud Affleck. So it's hard to know what level of exposure can really sustain the relationship. But I really want this one to laugh. Me too. I do too. We all do. And it's important to enjoy it while we have it. So totally.
Starting point is 00:28:02 Just having a great time. Thanks so much, Katie. Thank you, Katie. Thank you, guys. Let's move on to DTR and a couple we don't need. Okay. Selina Gomez and Justin Bieber, potentially back together. This is bad.
Starting point is 00:28:19 Bad, bad, bad, bad news. They were seen riding bikes together. I think it's clearly the L.A. area. I was trying to determine where. It looked like a wide street that they have in the valley. I just don't feel good about this. So let's do the timeline really quickly. Okay.
Starting point is 00:28:31 Believe in the last week, Selena and Gomez confirmed. to People magazine, who we still mostly trust, that she and the weekend were no more. Yes. Within, I would say, 24 hours, she was spotted with Justin Bieber. And they had been spotted together multiple times. Yeah. And so this is basically a rebound backslide or possibly even worse, a cheating backslide. Yes. And Juliet, I think you know where I stand on the backslide. We're both very opposed. But also the rebound backslide is the worst kind of backslide. But also with Justin Bieber. Who had to mysteriously cancel his tour due to exhaustion, which always sets off some warnings to those of us in the celebrity media space.
Starting point is 00:29:16 It's just not good. Being a pop star is hard. Being a child in a pop star is very difficult and certainly changes the way that you exist in the world. And I'm sympathetic to all of that. But this kid has not worked through all of his issues. No. And Selena Gomez does not need that. I'm not sure she has either.
Starting point is 00:29:32 I'm not sure she has either, but I don't think that. They're helping each other, especially not two days after you broke up with the weekend. I'm really unhappy about it. It's not good decisions. Do you remember when she was backstage at the Billboard Awards and Taylor Swift, like, showed like her disgust? That was a great gift a few years ago. Yeah, I feel like that was one of the last times that Taylor Swift plus a friend was received
Starting point is 00:29:55 in a positive light. It's true. This is a bad one. And now here we are. So for as much as we love J-Lo and A-Rod, anti this one. Good luck, Selena. That's all I have to say. rooting for you. Can we move on to the things we can't stop thinking about? Yes, we can.
Starting point is 00:30:08 You go first. Okay. So mine is not as good as yours, so I'm going first. I already know what yours are and I'm really excited for them. And, but this is honestly, I almost tweeted this this morning. This is a thing I can't stop thinking about. Your friend in mine, Martha Stewart. Oh, great. Gave an interview in August that I am still thinking about. It's on the cut. And they do a series that I really, really like called How I Get It Done. And they just interview successful women about kind of what their schedules are like and how they manage all of their, how they manage their life. It's very interesting. Martha did these. And it's like the whole thing is really worth reading because Martha is Martha Stewart. But here's really what I want to read. Okay. This is the first one. So she wakes up around
Starting point is 00:30:51 5am and does the New York Times crossword, like normal Martha Stewart stuff. Yeah. I do it on Sundays and sometimes at my laptop. She does it every day and sometimes she does it the night before. Oh, cool. Because if it shows up at midnight and she's still awake, she'll do it on her iPad. This is what she says. On exercising. At 6 a.m. I take my shower and wash my hair or whatever else I have to do and then get to the gym by either 6.30 a.m. or 7 a.m., depending on what time my trainer gets there. Then a whole thing about the gym, she works out for an hour, then she meets her gardener, and then she gets in the car and drives to New York.
Starting point is 00:31:28 Question. Yes. Who showers before working out? I've been thinly all day to the gym for an hour. It's very weird. And she's not showering again. Did she just forget to mention this? Does she not sweat a lot?
Starting point is 00:31:45 I guess so. Here's the only other piece of information I have is that several years ago Martha Stewart gave an interview about her beauty routine to the New York Times. And she says that she, quote, does not get clogged pores. Oh, wow. Which is quite a statement to make to the paper record. How lucky. How lucky for her.
Starting point is 00:32:02 But I guess maybe her skin is not secreting things at a level that requires showering. She's superhuman. Maybe she's just doing kind of like weight-bearing exercises, yoga. She's certainly not going to J-Lo and Arod's gym. Absolutely not. Shower, then work out, then a full day of work. Very strange. I can't stop thinking.
Starting point is 00:32:21 I have no explanation. That's it. If you ever meet her, you have to ask. It's literally, it's what I will spend my minute on, Martha. Please explain. I'm sure she'll love it. Okay. Okay.
Starting point is 00:32:31 I've had a couple of really good celebrity sightings. Yes. Which one should I start with? I'm closing my laptop for this. I'm ready. I'm going to start with the one that's more topical right now. Okay. Great. We're talking about exercising with celebrities.
Starting point is 00:32:42 Yes. I have the good fortune to do so myself. After two weeks ago or ten days ago, I went to SoulCycle. As you do on a regular basis. I do on a regular basis. I don't usually go to the Saturday class, though, and I got there early. He was worried about parking. And I hate the parking at my SoulCycle location.
Starting point is 00:33:02 And there was like a couple kids hanging out in the lobby area with like just like two adults, like minding them. I didn't really pay attention. Then a man came out of the room. I guess he didn't stay for the stretch. I look over. It turned out to be their father named David Beckham. I'm heard of him. The soccer star. Yes. And then like two minutes later, the mom comes out. Oh, it's Victoria Beckham. Posh Spice as well. So I'm like losing my mind sitting here in the lobby of Soul
Starting point is 00:33:27 Cycle with David Beckham, Victoria Beckham, like two nanny slash assistants, Harper Beckham and Romeo Beckham. I'm pretty sure it was Romeo. just going to do middle child Beckham. No, I'm pretty sure. Pretty sure is Romeo. It was not Brooklyn. No.
Starting point is 00:33:41 It was Romeo. I was so excited. David Beckham, I just was like, oh, my God. Like, this is insane. I can't when they come here. This is top tier celebrity sighting. This is so amazing. I texted minimum 10 people about it.
Starting point is 00:33:54 I tried to take a photo. Then I was like, no, this is not right. This is self-cycle. It's safe space. Yeah. I was so excited. Go back next week. I didn't expect to see them because I,
Starting point is 00:34:06 They were at that point coming out of a class. And then I took the class before the one they were coming out of. Right. But they were in the class. They were front row center, posh and becks. He dresses like a literal scrub for SoulCycle, not worried about his outfit. He was wearing champion mesh shorts. Okay.
Starting point is 00:34:22 And like the most basic, like worn down blue t-shirt. I respect that. And the Adidas hat. Makes me feel more comfortable about going to exercise classes in my garbage gear. And then he was wearing the Adidas hat that he's photographed in constantly. And then she was. was wearing, like, fancy workout clothes, also wearing a hat and a full face of makeup, which I saw her applying in the bathroom beforehand. And that just made me sad. Like, why does David Beckham
Starting point is 00:34:45 get to go out looking like a scrub? And then she's, like, worried about her lipstick for a high intensity workout. Really bothered me. Right. Not like because I was mad at her. It just like made me feel sad. Yeah. So then I forgot about my sadness. Get into class. Their front row center. Where are you in relationship to them? So I got into this class off the wait list. So I didn't have to choose my bike. So I'm a row behind them and like to the right. So I have a really good view of him. My view of her was not quite as good, but luckily the mirror made it easier to see both of them. Yeah. He's a great athlete, man. He's, you know, he was bending it like the Beckham he is. He was really good at the weight section, like just so fluid and like, I don't know. I was just,
Starting point is 00:35:24 I was, well, coordination. I was so distracted by David Beckham. How did your workout go? She was, she was good too. Mine was, I would say subpar, because I was so distracted. I was like just two eyes on the Beckham's all times. I just wanted to see how they were rolling. So your rhythm was off or? I like kind of, yeah, I was like more out of breath than usual. Okay. And then the teacher kept shut, like some, some soul cycle teachers shout out people in the class. Most do. And he kept like off and he was like, yeah, Victoria, yeah, David, good job. And then like, come back to them and say it again. And I was like, can you call out Posh and Bex? Like, is that kosher? Did it seem like he knew them? Yeah, I think that. So then I learned that they
Starting point is 00:36:03 double on Saturday mornings. They take back-to-back classes with the same teacher, this guy named David, who's the master instructor, which is like the top highest level of instructor. And he has like a bit of a cult following. And they go to his, they go to back-to-back classes with him, one 45-minute class followed by an hour class on Saturdays. This is just a horrifying. But B, I don't understand number one doing two hours of Soul Cycle on a Saturday morning. And I guess also if you're that famous, why does it have to be Saturday? Like, can't they do that on like a Wednesday afternoon? They probably do both. Do you think they're just in SoulCycle all the time?
Starting point is 00:36:35 I think that to look the way they do, you have to work out an hour and half at least a day. Yeah. So. I'm sure that's true. Yeah. It was really exciting. The only thing would have been better is Jay Z and Beyonce, and they also go to SoulCycle. So I would dare to dream one day.
Starting point is 00:36:48 What would you do if Beyonce were in your soul cycle bus? Then I would definitely take pictures. I would have to. That's your response? But then don't you like get kicked out of, don't you think for this many famous people to be doing, because. Celebrity SoulCycle spottings were quite regular at this point. Yeah, especially in L.A., I think more in L.A. than New York. Right.
Starting point is 00:37:08 I think I was surprised because they didn't have any special treatment. She was, like, in the bathroom, putting on makeup. He was just, like, sitting on one of the benches waiting for the studio to open. They're just, like, regular people. The staff, they must go all the time because the staff, like, did not care at all. They just pretended to not know who they were. And then when he came out of the first class, I found that they were doubling because a woman was like, oh, you're doubling today. And it's really scary that people just say that, like, that's a normal thing.
Starting point is 00:37:32 But anyway. It's a whole cult. It's just so sensational. I don't know. I've reached the top of the celebrity siting mountain top, and I don't know where to go from here. Beyonce and JZ. That's great. You're like...
Starting point is 00:37:41 I'm at ever's base camp, you know? There's still the peak to reach. I'm glad that you had the mountaineering terminology at hand there because I was kind of like, what's it called? And they're right before they summit. But you had it. That's great. Thank you.
Starting point is 00:37:53 So that was my... That was its last Saturday. Yes. Next day, Sunday. I went to this restaurant in Brentwood called Pizana. Okay. Which I've been trying to. to go to literally for months.
Starting point is 00:38:04 Like Jonathan Gold wrote, I talked about this in House of Carves as well. Jonathan Gold wrote like a glowing review, so it's really hard to get in. Right. It's owned by Chris O'Donnell. Right. This is kind of what I wanted to talk about. So Chris O'Donnell, of Circle of Friends. Yes, of Circle of Friends.
Starting point is 00:38:16 And Grace Anatomy Season 2. Owns a hip pizza restaurant. Yeah, Neapolitan pizza. Okay. With like fancy salads as well. Is he in the restaurant greeting people? Didn't see him. Is he like on the floor?
Starting point is 00:38:28 No. Okay. No. It's just a passion project. He's just an investor. No, I think he's pretty heavily involved in, like, the menu and stuff. He's not just an investor. He's an owner.
Starting point is 00:38:37 Is there a menu item that's like Chris's pie or, you know, whatever? No, it's all like real, like Italian names. Okay. Chris O'Donnell, noted Italian. Anyway, no to the town. I guess I don't know, but. Yeah. It was quite good. And I'm sitting outside with my friend, cool.
Starting point is 00:38:52 And I see like a girl come in and this like other family's like, Violet, hi. And I look up, it's Violent Affleck, people. It's really exciting for you. And then I was like, oh my gosh. Yes, the family's here. And then in comes Serafina and then in comes Sam. And then in comes Jennifer.
Starting point is 00:39:08 And then in comes her father from the Capitol One commercials. Incredible. And it was like some other Bruntwood family, I presume. Jen came over to say hi and they went to their table. It's like regular people. She seemed happy. Her dad was there. I was beyond thrilled.
Starting point is 00:39:22 I'd finally eat another restaurant. I'd wanted to go to for four months. And lo and behold, I can have to see one of my favorite celebrities and certainly my favorite celebrity children. It was just huge. With a menu crafted by Chris O'Donnell. With a menu crafted by Chris O'Donnell. What a time.
Starting point is 00:39:34 What an LA story, right? Congratulations to you. Thank you so much. You're living your best life. I hope so. Thanks to Katie for calling in. Thanks to you for listening. And we'll be back in two weeks.
Starting point is 00:39:45 And thank you to J-Lo and A-Rod.
