James Brown is one of the most influential artists and cultural forces of our time.
And I'm so excited with the premiere of the upcoming A&E documentary event, James Brown,
Say it Laugh.
Executive produced by me, Kwaselo,
Tarek Black Thought Trotter, and Mick Jagger.
The doc traces the incredible trajectory
of the legendary artist and cultural icon
and examines how his words,
song, style, and moves inspired musical revolutions
and molded a nation's view of black pride
and black masculinity.
Featuring never seen before archival interviews
and performances of Brown
plus interviews with friends, family,
musicians and prodigies.
It's a definitive look at a complicated life
and a reflection on the immense impact
Brown continues to have on music and culture today.
The two-night event premieres Monday, February 18th,
at 87th Central on A&E,
and watch the next day on the A&E app.
I can't wait for you to see it.
Good God.
And now here's a trailer of James Brown,
Say It Louder, showing on A&E.
My father was born.
It didn't look like he was gonna come through.
But then all of a sudden, he was alive.
I got to something that makes me born to shout.
I had to have a determination to be somebody.
He showed me what was possible.
Not that I could do it, but I could dream of it.
I created funk. God and me.
He was this amazing genius and gave so much to the world.
I'm a black man. I've got to take part of my cause.
I've got to take part of my life for freedom for equality
and take a stand where it's needed.
where it's needed.
His music was incredibly important.
To our community, to our people.
Say it loud, I'm black, and I'm proud.
That song was dangerous, aggressive, and political.
That's one of the bravest things that James Brown has ever done.
It's the original Black Lives Matter.
With the greatness comes flaws.
That balance is necessary for you to be great.
And when I look back, I say, God, how did I get this far?
