Starting point is 00:00:01 I wanted to share some of my favorite moments with you. You could feel the freedom. It still feels amazing. It still feels amazing. And it's like you've got to think of rose ceremony dresses and jewelry and these things aren't cheap. If you know your personality type, you can avoid a lot of problems. Hey guys, welcome to another episode of the Rachel Cruise Show podcast. I'm so glad that you're here.
Starting point is 00:00:25 And I can't believe it. It is Christmas time. And then 2019, it's coming to an end. I really hope that my show has helped you guys make progress towards your money goals this year and giving you some encouragement. We had so many great episodes and so many great guests. And so I just wanted to share a few of my favorite moments with you. So let's get right to it. One of my favorite couples that was on the show was Rosanna and Jeremy.
Starting point is 00:00:49 Oh, they were so much fun. Their gazelle intensity made me so proud. And they're tackling their debt with a passion. But the best part is that's not stopping them from having fun with their family. because you can be gazelle intense, getting out of debt, and still have a great life. So check out their story. I was just living a life that was just, you could just feel the weight of the world on my shoulders. I just started getting fed up with the way things were.
Starting point is 00:01:14 We just didn't feel like we had any freedom. And I also didn't really know, like, where was, we have this money. Where is it going? We were trying to get to a place in life where we can breathe. Our church, they just put up on the screens, hey, we're doing Financial Peace University. We just looked at each other and say, hey, we just got to do it. It was almost as a matter of fact. It was something about the word financial and peace
Starting point is 00:01:35 was perfectly named. It really was because I wasn't having peace. Our finances weren't, there was nothing peaceful about it. And even though it was hard coming to terms with, okay, we need to make some really big changes here. It felt hard. But we were up for it. We were like, man, because what we were doing was just not working.
Starting point is 00:01:53 Once we got through financial peace, we immediately the BMW had to go, the motorcycle had to go. If we haven't used it in the last month, We're selling it. It's out. And we did. We started just paying everything off, snowballing. As that was happening, you could just, you could feel the freedom.
Starting point is 00:02:08 Oh, it still feels amazing. It still feels amazing. Still feel pretty good. Watching Dave's YouTube channel and you constantly seeing people screaming their necks off, like, I'm out, I'm out, I'm free, debt free. And I'm like, I'm like, now, you want to be those people. You want to be those people so desperately. There's a sacrifice in the beginning that you have to make.
Starting point is 00:02:24 But the thing was is that our goal, we didn't want to go back to where we were. So making that sacrifice. for that short amount of time was completely worth it. This is our new excitement in life. You know, the cars and the stuff and all that, that was fun. But this is more thrilling because we're achieving something phenomenal. You know, when babysat, too, so there's still a journey to go, but, man, we're not where we used to be. Well, thank you guys so much for coming in.
Starting point is 00:02:51 Of course. You got a story. I love so much. So to kind of jump right in, you guys are currently on babysathing them to two. Yes, we are. You guys are killing it. I mean, seriously, I'm like, you're just a story. doing, you've made such progress and you've made the sacrifices, right?
Starting point is 00:03:03 Like, I mean, we talk about when you go into debt, you can wander your way in, you cannot wonder your way out. You have to be intentional. You have to have sacrifice. Yes. So, what has life looked like in baby step two? Have you had fun in baby step two? Absolutely.
Starting point is 00:03:15 Honestly, part of the fun is seeing that you're getting out of debt, seeing the reality of, wow, I don't, I'm not straddled by that huge, that huge amount of debt. Yes. Like, it's so close. It's exciting. We find that we're doing more. now than we were before. Wow.
Starting point is 00:03:33 And it takes more planning, absolutely. But there are so many things that you can do for free. There are so many ways you can get discounts. We're always online. Hey, let's sign up for that email. We can get 20% off. Yes, that's right. That's right.
Starting point is 00:03:47 You can always be as spontaneous, but you get to do all this other free stuff. And it makes you get creative too. So what are like the favorite things that you guys have done with the kids and babysit? I think sometimes, you know, Rosanna is really good about just, we'll pack some lunches. So we'll go explore different, just different parks. Yeah, we'll go Google recreation centers. We'll go take pictures as a family, just stuff that's, you know, building us.
Starting point is 00:04:10 Yeah. And it hasn't cost us anything but just gas. Totally. Which is in the budget. It's a pre-plan. Yeah. They're always like, everyone's like, oh, well, don't you just want to go out and have coffee together?
Starting point is 00:04:23 And, you know, I've got keep cups. We'll pack a hot coffee or a hot cup of tea with us. And we're drinking in the cup. instead of going through the Starbucks drive-thru and spending $10 and then they want a snack. So you buy a snack and it just goes up. We still have that experience of going out and eating out. We're just not giving other people our money. And it's actually a better experience because, one, you're being, something about being
Starting point is 00:04:46 intentional enriches your experience for your family. Yeah. Because you're thinking about your family. You're thinking about the experience you're going to have. And so when you're intentional, it just elevates your overall experience. Yeah. And we're another day closer to being 100% out. We want to be the ones victorious.
Starting point is 00:05:04 Yes. We want to scream. That was getting on me so much. I was watching Dave's YouTube channel and everybody's YouTube channel. And everybody's scream. I was like, I want to scream. I want to scream. And you will.
Starting point is 00:05:16 You guys, get that crazy. We're getting close. You're so excited. Okay, after you come to your debt free scream, come back on the show. Yeah. And I want to hear all about it. Yeah. Because if you're so happy now, I can not want to see how excited.
Starting point is 00:05:28 You are. We're going to be screaming. They're so fun. I'm hoping to get them back on for an update sometime soon. They're just great. All right, up next is Mignon. Mignon's story was amazing and so inspiring. She hit rock bottom when she couldn't even pay her electric bill,
Starting point is 00:05:44 but she listened to God's prompting and ended up turning a cupcake into a multi-million-dollar business. Here's her story. I remember feeling desperate and broken and hopeless. and feeling like, why is it that everybody else can make it and we can't? I was a stay-at-home mom, drowning in debt and brokenness, losing everything that we had. Figuring out how to make it was what my life was about to depend on. I was listening to the Dave Ramsey show, and I heard people screaming on the show, We're dead free, and I wanted that.
Starting point is 00:06:27 And I heard him telling people that they could have a bake, sale. And I thought, what if you had a bake sale every single day? But I didn't know how to bake. But I had a secret weapon. It was my grandmother. And I said, Grandma, look, I need a recipe. It was the first successful thing that I ever baked. And it was when my neighbor across the street, she said, I want to order cupcakes for all of my clients. That was going to be like 600 cupcakes. All I had was $5 left, and I hadn't even fed the family. And we had, and We were a family of eight. But I wanted to do something different because, you know, I was tired of being crazy expecting
Starting point is 00:07:08 a different result. And I marched myself out that door and I bought everything that I could buy with that $5. And I started baking. I turned that $5 into $60 that day. And I turned that $60 into $600 by the end of the week. And I turned that $600 into over $10 million in sales. I opened this bakery with a KitchenAid mixer and a dollar. dorm-sized refrigerator because that's what I could afford to do. Now the cupcake collection is over
Starting point is 00:07:37 five million cupcakes sold. The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step. And it's in that one step forward that you begin to find that everything else begins to take its shape. You just have to do what you can do. I'm going to live like it depends on God, but I'm going to work like it depends on me. All right, Mignon, thanks for coming. And here chatting with me, your story is just, it's phenomenal. Can you believe you're, like, living your life? Like, when you look back on your story, like, is it, does it still amaze you? It does amaze me. Someone asked me just yesterday if I surprised myself, and I said, no. I know surprising myself. I fully think I'm capable of everything that I set my mind to. But I think that we think,
Starting point is 00:08:31 these things happen to other people, that they don't actually happen to us. And that's what I want my platform in life to be. I will be transparent and I will be authentic. And you can know my business so that you too can know what you can do if you believe. So good. Okay, because winning with money, obviously, isn't just to win with money, just to have money, right? It is about more than that. And you are such a joyful person. And money doesn't always equal joy. Like, It equals fun sometimes, right? Money can buy some fun, but it doesn't reassure you that you're going to have a joyful life, but you do. I could have chosen to go a different way.
Starting point is 00:09:08 When God put this cupcake collection on my heart, he very clearly said to me, Mignon, I'm done playing with you. I've given you all these ideas, and you start and you never finish anything. This is your last opportunity. Do it and live or don't and just die. So someone hearing your story who's maybe living paycheck to paycheck, they may be as of extreme situation as you were all those years ago, maybe not as bad, but they're just still in this place and they're like, man, all this bad stuff has happened to me.
Starting point is 00:09:40 Like it's me, you know, why is the world done this to me? And it's almost a victim-like mentality. What would you say to someone that changed your life of taking control over your life? I think that's the key. You take control. We don't have to be victims in our own situations. But sometimes we get so caught up in our brokenness. And we think that, oh, because I'm broken, I can't do anything.
Starting point is 00:10:03 But it is in your brokenness that your potential becomes released. So good. And it's hope. I mean, that's it. Like what you're spreading is not just the joy, but the hope of taking responsibility and seizing the opportunity. Oh, she's so full of joy. I love how she never gave up.
Starting point is 00:10:20 And now she's paying it forward. All right. We all know how much I love. of The Bachelor. Yes. And this year, I actually brought someone on the show who was a contestant on the Bachelor, and she ended up being The Bachelorette. Yes.
Starting point is 00:10:36 Caitlin Bristow gave me all of The Bachelor Inside Scoop, and it was fantastic. Okay, so when it comes to the show, I have so many questions. I cannot wait to hear all this. Okay. Because when it comes to the financial side, as a viewer, that's like somewhat of the lens I look through because I can't help it. It's just like part of like how my mind works. So I'm watching it and I'm like, okay, you were on the side of the contestants of the Bachelor. Yeah. And then you were at the bachelorette. Right. So you have two different perspectives, which are pretty different, right?
Starting point is 00:11:07 Very. Okay. So when it comes to what you pay for, I'm going to be so nosy here, but what you pay for? It's interesting stuff. Yeah. So when you're a contestant, like what is provided for you and what do you have to pay for? You pay for everything and nothing is provided for you. Like, I don't know. I was living in Vancouver and to even get a flight to go down for one of my first auditions. I was taking care of it. I put myself up in the hotels. No way. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:11:36 They're just like, if you want this, come get it. But all your clothes that you're wearing on one-on-ones and all of that, or group dates. It was crazy the amount of money that I spent just to go into the show because you don't know how long you're going to last. You could either be home night one or you could be there for a solid nine. weeks and it's like you got to think of rose ceremony dresses and heels and jewelry and these things aren't cheap it's quite expensive and everything it's it's crazy what goes into it and yeah you don't get anything yeah do people go into debt for this stuff oh i did yeah yeah i don't know how you don't i mean i was working as at a restaurant i taught spin classes on the side i was living in vancouver
Starting point is 00:12:18 yeah ridiculous rent but yeah you got it's it's a lot to think about when you're going to wait for that long and national television and what everybody puts into it. And the show, yeah, no help. Yes. Okay. So when you are the bachelorette's, is it the opposite? Like, everything's provided for you? I think I brought my pajamas. And that was it. Seriously. Just a comfy pair of PJs because everything is taking care of if you're the lead. You just pick from, you know, you have wardrobe, pickouts every week, and this is what I'm going to wear. And they can't tell you what the dates are. So they'll be like, you might be in a chili helicopter. Okay. Maybe possibly the mountains.
Starting point is 00:12:56 It's a helicopter. So they'll give you ideas, but yeah, all wardrobe to choose from. There's a stylist. There's a hair and makeup artist. So it's like polar opposites. Right. For being contestant to being like the lead. Yes.
Starting point is 00:13:08 So fascinating. So I'm so glad Caitlin came by. That was so much fun. Okay. Ian Cron. Yes. He was so great. He is an Enneagram expert.
Starting point is 00:13:19 And Eniogram is like one of my favorite things ever. It's all about your personality type. So Ian came on to talk about the money habits for different personality types, and I loved it. So here's Ian. Ian, for those people that are like, what's that word even enneagram? Like, what is this thing? How would you explain it? So the Enneagram is an ancient personality typing system, and it teaches that there are nine basic personality types in the world,
Starting point is 00:13:47 one of which we gravitate toward and adopt in childhood, just as a way to cope and feel safe in the world. And what's really important to understand is that each of those types has an unconscious motivation or driver that powerfully influences how that type acts, thinks, and feels and how it sees the world, how it relates to daily realities. These were all strategies. Yes. Which is like subconscious, right? Until you're aware. But like that's what's like, and that's what I love about it, you guys, is this whole episode is about self-awareness. And understanding when you understand how you're wired, the way you are, why you are, it affects your money. It affects your relationships, everything in your life.
Starting point is 00:14:30 And so understanding this, Stokey and the Enneagram has been one of the tools that puts language to it. I mean, it's one of the, it's, I've done every type of, you know, Myers-Brigg, disc, all that. But it's on a different level. It is. And so I would love for you to go through the numbers and how each personality interacts with money. Yeah. Because it's how we all interact. And it's interesting when you put your personality to it.
Starting point is 00:14:52 what unfolds. Yeah. And you know what? I've thought about this topic a lot. And so I've been really excited about doing this show. Because no, I have. I've been thinking to myself like, oh my gosh, like understanding economics or personal finance, your relationship with money through the lens of personality. Yes. Like actually, if you know your personality type, you can avoid a lot of problems. A lot of mistakes. Right. Amen. Yes. If you know where your gifts are and your challenges are, and you gain self-awareness around them, you can spot them before they undo you. Yes.
Starting point is 00:15:28 Right? It's good. Yes, fantastic. It's true. It's true. Yes. All right, let's talk about ones. All right.
Starting point is 00:15:33 I have not met a lot of ones who are in debt. Yes. They're very concerned about budgeting. It's good. Now, the trap for them could be moving from responsibility with money to rigidity with money. So good. Two's. Generosity to the max.
Starting point is 00:15:49 Serve. And they want to serve. Now, the problem with that is, is overgiving, right? Yes. Okay, threes. The upside is they are goal-crushing machines. They get things done.
Starting point is 00:15:59 Productive as heck. The downside of this is they could fall into the trap of using money as a way to project an image of success. Totally. Yes. Oh, yeah. So fours are tricky. Fores might think that budgeting is beneath them. You know, I'm an artiste, you know, and I'm above such mundane topics like finances.
Starting point is 00:16:21 That's so good. Right? Yes. Yes. A problem for a five can be that they can spend a lot of time researching what to do with money. Yes. You know what I'm saying? Yes.
Starting point is 00:16:31 How to invest and how to do all this stuff and not actually execute on the plan. Sixes, you know, these loyalists are chronic warriors. Okay. And a pitfall for them can be they're always looking to outside authorities to make decisions for them. And that could be a problem around finances, right? Interesting. Because there's some good people out there. or some not so good people out there, right?
Starting point is 00:16:54 Sevens. Having fun. Oh, man. The impulsivity, though, can get them into so much trouble with money. And really, it can. Yes, yes. I have seen more credit card debt around sevens because it's like fun, spontaneity. Let's go do this.
Starting point is 00:17:08 Let's go do this. Let's go do that. This is fine. We'll do it. Yeah. Now, with eights, they're all in or they're all out. They go big or they go home. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:17:18 Oh, yeah. So they can gobble up like. and money can fly out the door. So nines wonderful, sweetheart, they get easily distracted. Budgeting's hard for nines because they're easily distracted. They get going on a budget and then they suffer mission drift. Yes. So every type has its own lens through which I think it understands and sees money.
Starting point is 00:17:40 And we're just scratching the surface of what we could talk about finances and types. Oh, so good. I know we'll have to have you back. Oh, the Niagram. If you don't know it, you should. Okay. I also love Costco. They have some really good quality, generic products that are identical to the name brand version.
Starting point is 00:18:00 Some of these really shocked me. So here they are. Kirkland's signature batteries, you guys, are made by DuraCell. That's right. But you buy the generic and save money. Kirkland's signature coffee, you won't believe it, but it's true. Roasted by Starbucks. Kirkland's pet food is.
Starting point is 00:18:21 Made by diamonds. And if you've ever bought Diamond Dog Food, you know it's great quality, but it's really pricey. But Kirkland's is 30% cheaper. And the last one, that absolutely shocked me, but rumor has it, that Kirkland's professional salon formula formula, moisturizer, shampoo, and conditioner are made by purology. Ladies, I use purology, and I love it. In Costco's products, these, they're like nine. 99. And purology costs like 65 bucks? Okay, I will say, I couldn't find definite proof anywhere on
Starting point is 00:19:00 Pureology or Costco to admit this, but the ingredients are exactly the same and everywhere on the internet says that it's true. So it must be right, right? If you guys know of any others, I'd love to hear them. All right, before we get to my next favorite moment, which may or may not have to do with Disney, I want to talk to you about something that you need to do for the new year for your family, and that is to get term life insurance. Listen, this is one of the most simple things that you can do to make sure your family is taken care of. The fact that people go on with life without life insurance, it kind of drives me crazy because I'm like, seriously, if something were to happen to you and someone has depended upon your income, what's going to happen to them? Like, do you think about that?
Starting point is 00:19:39 It's not fun to think about, no. We're going to talk about Disney and get excited and all that stuff, happiness later. But for real, this is something that is so inexpensive, it's so easy to get, and that is term life insurance. Zander Insurance is what I recommend. This is what Winston and I use, and I love it because I know if something were to happen to Winston or myself, that our girls, our family are going to be taken care of.
Starting point is 00:20:00 And now our little boy, yes, our family's growing, which makes me more paranoid to make sure that everything is good, right? It's like my mama bear coming out. Like, we're all good. And that's what term life insurance does. It gives you peace of mind. And again, it's super easy.
Starting point is 00:20:13 We recommend getting 10 to 12 times your annual income. So all you have to do is go to Zander dot com, get a quote today because they do all the shopping, all the hard work, everything for you. It is so easy. Don't go into the new year without making sure you have termed life insurance. All right. I can't do the best of show without this one. Disney.
Starting point is 00:20:35 Yes. We did an entire episode on Disney. And it'd be just kind of my dream if we just turn this whole show into like a Disney show. What do you think? I mean, I'd be living my best life. I think it'd be great. Okay, here are a couple of my favorite moments from that episode. Keep your hands and feet inside the vehicle at all times
Starting point is 00:20:56 because this mine train is about to take off. Here's the list. Number one, bring your own stroller. Disney charges $15 a day. Listen, love that stroller around. We did that with a million. It's great. Number two, don't buy a ticket for every single day that you're there,
Starting point is 00:21:10 especially if you're there for a week. Your kids are going to get tired and they're going to want to enjoy a day at the hotel's pool. Number three, the best part of the day to ride the ride is during the five. Fireworks because no one is in line. So experience the fireworks or life changing, but then the next night, like, go rail the rest. It's great. Number four, buy Disney gift cards on a discount. So check your local warehouse clubs like Costco and Sam's.
Starting point is 00:21:33 Number five, buy your mouse ears beforehand on Etsy or online so you can wear them to the park because the ones in the park are expensive. Number six, arrive before the park opens. Okay, the parks are way less crowded in the morning. so make sure to book your fast passes, those reservations, later in the day when the lines are longer. Number seven, use the envelope system for your kids' snacks and souvenirs. Studies show that you spent up to 100% more when you use your card or your Disney Magic Band versus cash.
Starting point is 00:22:05 So people, use cash while you're there. You have to have reality. That just brings you back to reality because you're going to be in this magical land. Reality is cash. Use cash. Number eight, if you go before your kids are three, they actually get into the park for free. I love it.
Starting point is 00:22:19 Number nine, make sure to bring sunscreen and band-aids, those kind of things, because you're going to pay a premium for those in the park. Number 10, skip the park hopper tickets and only go to one park per day. Next, you can use the photo past photographers so you don't have to buy all the packages with their pictures. You can actually hand them your camera or your phone,
Starting point is 00:22:39 and they'll take the pictures for you. They're so great at that. Number 12, use discounts if you're military, AARP, or AAA. Number 13, don't listen to the timeshare pitch to get the discounted tickets, people. No, no, no, no. You are there because you have saved up for the Disney trip. Don't sit through that stuff. No, no.
Starting point is 00:22:57 Number 14, Disney is now tiered their pricing by season, so travel in the off seasons for lighter crowds and cheaper ticket prices. I'm so glad that you joined me for my best moments of the show for this year.
