If you have kids or you've been around little kids, you know that they actually can teach you a lot about life without even meaning to. So today I'm going to share four unexpected financial lessons my kids have taught me recently. Make sure to like, subscribe, and share this episode with a friend. All right. We're going to dive right in with number one. Have grace and an abundance mentality. My kids, they are like so easy on themselves. And I'm so thankful for that, especially my middle one, Caroline, love you, girl.
But man, girlfriend has no shame.
Like, maybe she should have a little bit of guilt in life sometimes.
But if she messes up, she's always like, it's okay.
I mean, don't worry about it.
She's such a free spirit.
Like, she's the one literally we'll do like, they'll do chores and get paid.
And then Amelia, my oldest is like, mom, I have $12 saved.
I want to go to Target and buy something.
And Caroline's like, oh my gosh, I want to too.
And then she like can't find her money because she's lost it.
And I'm like, Caroline, she's like, but it's okay.
I'll just earn more.
And I'm like, go girl, have that abundance mentality. Easy on yourself because listen, we're all going to make mistakes. Hopefully we don't like lose money. But maybe we do. Maybe you invest in something and you lose it. There's always next time, right? Gotta learn from those mistakes. But give yourself grace because, well, things are going to happen. Number two, be creative and willing when it comes to generosity. Man, kids, it's like baked into them, I swear, that they are just generous. Like, like, I guess, I
guess they're just not tainted by the world or what money can do and like you just like want to hold
on to your money. Kids are so free and I feel like my kids are like that and they're always kind of
changing and being creative with like how to help people like something will happen and I honestly
won't even cross my mind to like jump in and help a situation and like mom go help her.
We can help here mom. I mean they are like and especially people you know homeless people if you know
on the side of the road and you see them and always always my kids like mom
mom, mom, come on, you know. And there's just something about, again, I guess it's just not being
tainted by the world and all of this, because even with my giving sometimes, I can find myself
somewhat like, not rigid, but I'm like, okay, I don't know, feel this weight of responsibility.
And I do think there's this level of freeness with it. And there's a beauty in that. And my kids
embody that. And I want more of it. I'll be honest. And speaking of people in need,
more than 100 million Americans carry medical debt, which shows traditional coverage often leaves
people to face really big bills alone. So families need more than just coverage. They need community.
That is why I love Christian health care ministries. CHM is a budget-friendly faith-based alternative to
health insurance, and they've paid over $12 billion dollars in medical bills. Now that is faith in
action. With CHM, there are no networks, no insurance headaches, and programs start at just
$98 a month. Y'all, CSHM is where your faith and your finances agree. So go to chministries.org
to learn more today. All right, number three, don't be afraid of failure. My kids, same thing.
They just kind of this curious entrepreneurial spirit. Like, they will go and sell anything.
Like, we have like these like little table, plastic tables and chairs. I'm telling you, I will, like,
look out and they will be at the end of our driveway selling something. They'll make bracelets.
They'll sell Halloween candy. They love the lemonade.
thing. They're always like, well, I'll buy it, I'll eliminate the grocery store and we'll sell it. They, like, get
snacks out of our pantry and, like, set up like a snack table for when people come by. And they want to,
you know, earn some extra money, you know, and it's great. It is so great. But I just love their
willingness to try anything because I think some of us adults, like we could have some motivation
in this area, right? Like, where it's like, yeah, don't be afraid to try something new. And even if you
fail, even if nobody buys the bracelets that you're selling, right, or whatever it is, it didn't
face them. And it shouldn't face us.
failure, it's okay. And somehow we put all this pressure that everything we do has to succeed
and be amazing. And it's just not true. Like, try something. It doesn't work. That's okay.
It's fine. Number four, time is worth more than money. At the end of the day, my kids just love
quality time and consistent relationships with us as a family. Like, they are always wanting time
with us and I just get reminded more and more and more. It didn't cost a lot, right? Like, you don't,
it looks like on social media and stuff that you have to go do all this extravagant things or go
to all these amazing places. And also, your kids just want to be with you. Like, if you have an
empty parking lot near your house, like a high school or a church or wherever, like that does
wonders. My kids love an empty parking lot. They ride bikes. We bring chalk. Winston recently has started
to let the girls drive with him. Like, they sit in his lap and, like, drive around the empty parking lot.
I think it's so cool. And there's just something.
about the simplicity of it, and really, they just always remind me, like, they just want time.
Like, they do not, again, my kids like stuff, so don't think, like, oh, my gosh, the Cruz kids
never ask for anything. Not true. They definitely, like, have things they want. But overall,
the thing that continues to rise to the surface or memories they talk about, it's usually,
like, really simple things. And so there's something that we don't have to complicate it, right?
There's something about with our kids being consistent with them and that quality time. It's what they
want and let's be honest in life that's where real joy comes from right quality relationships and being
with people you love that's what you want at the end of your life right instead of like mountains and
mountains of money and that's all you have to show for it with no relationship no we want the we want the
reverse we want those healthy relationships and our kids remind us of that so raising kids it has also
taught me that the earlier you can teach them though good values the easier they stick which is exactly why
I wrote three of my kids' books about contentment, generosity, and gratitude because there is something
just so powerful about getting these lessons in our kids' mind. And so I was able to write some
kids' books about it. And I just love it. So I'll put a link down below so you can check those out.
But if you haven't seen my episode on Money Lessons we've learned in 15 years of marriage with
my husband Winston Cruz, you can check that out next. Or if you're listening on podcast, I will put
a link below. All right, you guys, as always, make sure to take control of your money and create
a life you love.
