Starting point is 00:01:57 Look at him go. because go me and my friend joanne worked on this and it's super awesome so go check it out um yeah i had fun i had fun with this one you did you know just think tara i liked it yeah i thought it was fun too um i thought like in the beginning of this movie what i'm trying to remember is paul walker looked at eva mendes like he recognized her right you remember that right yeah okay so that explains why the first kiss was so casual because of I assume now, I hope, that we will see in later movies, it feels like they're setting up a lot of stuff here that, like, we would see them talk about how she is his ex, right?
Starting point is 00:02:40 Because that first kiss was just whatever. Yeah. Was so quick. But in regards to between him and Tyrese, their chemistry was awesome and a lot of fun. I like, Tyrese is really good at comedic pacing and tone and, like, throwing stuff away. That was a ton of fun. And I love the stunts in this. Obviously, we had more of a budget, I think, for the cars in it being the second one.
Starting point is 00:03:06 I love the, I think it's the Count of Monte Cristo move with all the cars going in the garage. I thought that was super smart. And, of course, the ending, like they really did up the ante with a car jumping into a boat. That was awesome. Yeah. I love that. I thought that was a lot of fun. Because of course, after seeing the first one, you could think that some stunts are like, not played out, but they're old because we're like, oh, yeah, we've seen them like racing cars in the first one.
Starting point is 00:03:39 Like, this was new to us. But it, it was, they still pulled out a lot of new stops. And I thought that it was still really well done and a lot of fun. And I loved all the stunts in this one, too. Yeah, I agree. I think that this movie does a smart thing and not trying to be the first movie again. it's a very different kind of movie in the sense that it takes the levels of like okay I feel like elements from the first movie are present in this movie but the the levels in
Starting point is 00:04:10 which those elements are in it are adjusted like we have a lot more police stuff we have a lot more racing a lot more comedy and I think um I don't I think I will say I think the first one had more heart but I think this one definitely is more block of buster ask for sure um and i i think that i did enjoy the chemistry between tyrese and paul walker i think as far as like duo dynamics i think i enjoyed dom and paul and brian a little bit more but i definitely like the uh chaotic cop versus straight man dynamic of this movie or or a good cop bad cop so to speak even though they're not cops technically but yeah i think this movie does a good job of being self-contained in the story that is trying to tell
Starting point is 00:04:59 while also setting up a sequel in a way that an ending that feels more organic because the last one just kind of ended and it was a cliffhanger and this isn't a direct pickup off of that but it does a good job of using what the first one established without feeling like it needed to be dependent upon the first one to then build off
Starting point is 00:05:19 into more potential sequels and I feel like it's acceded in spades in that in that regard. You know, we're setting up seemingly a villain like he's going to get out and like, okay, we're going to go start a garage now and like, okay, there's something that's going to happen between me and Paul Walker and Eva Mendez later on down the line.
Starting point is 00:05:39 Seemingly, that's what they're alluding to. So, yeah, I will say this was fun. I'm invested in seeing where the story goes. I'm enjoying the ride. And we're starting to see what this franchise is known for, which is up in the ante with its third act stunts. The first one, it was the 16 wheeler and the guy with the gun and all the cars around in. This one, we literally jump over a bay into a boat. So, like, we're exiting the realm of reality with these things, but I'm not mad at it. It's fun. It kind of defies
Starting point is 00:06:16 logic, but I think this is just the beginning of that staple of the Fast and Furious. Yeah. I feel like In the first one, basically what we focused on more is how I described it, is that the first one was about family. And I think maybe a little bit where they fell short, although they were still trying to hit the tone in that Barstow is his friend from back home. When we see the pickup when we first run into, I'm just calling him Barstow, but Tyrese, he is obviously in Arizona. We see the mountains of the background. So he's where he has basically known him. they've known each other for their entire lives but we what we and in that fight when they get in like the fight the scuffle it's sort of like all right they're like brothers they're trying to throw that in
Starting point is 00:07:06 but it didn't have the same really strong like family aspect that the first one did which is why I would agree with you that the first one had more heart in it and this one was throwing in more stunts and racing and more blockbuster stuff in general and more car stuff which I didn't mind But I think what they could have done was thrown a little bit more plot between him and Tyrese's character so that instead of just like, oh, you put me in the jammer, and then at the end, him going, hey, man, it was your fault. I'm just chaotic and I make my own mistakes. That it would have had a little more than that than just a throwaway explanation that he's chaotic and he doesn't know how to take responsibility. that I think if we had taken, I don't know, 10 more minutes at the top
Starting point is 00:07:58 built up that relationship between him and Tyrese, we would have probably felt a little bit more at that end scene when Tyrese says, hey, man, it actually wasn't your fault. Because imagine, and this is just me pitching a thing, imagine that it had to do with somebody's like livelihood, like a life, somebody dies, something really bad happened, that when we cut to that actual talk, which this movie really is, isn't in that vein, it may be too dramatic, that when we cut to that talk and he says,
Starting point is 00:08:28 hey, man, it wasn't your fault that we would see it in Paul Walker's face, that it's lifted off of his shoulders because he probably assumed it was his fault all of his life. But we got that. It just wasn't, it's not that deep, right? Yeah. It's a race car movie. So that, that's, that's my one riding pitch for this. I don't, I don't know, I don't know to discount your point, though, because I think this is a really fun movie, but I can definitely...

Starting point is 00:09:47 laid out to us i can definitely see a better film in here with adding that more more of that heart maybe i don't know roman and brian are brought together against their i guess against their will like okay he's the he's the other best guy for the job you're you have to work with this guy that you used to know and they they can't stand each other right and then we find out over the course of the story like what actually went down between them and then they're able to have like a heart to heart uh reconciling so you know that that stuff could have been maybe a little bit stronger and i think because we got those more heartfelt moments with the family theme kind of really playing into it the the sense of of loyalty and the kind of stray-esque aspect of it like
Starting point is 00:10:31 dom was very much like like you said like the the grounding point the magnet point for these people and i feel like the reason why brian betrayed or left the force was because he felt that magnetic pool of what dom was as a person but you know this movie isn't trying to be that and i don't i don't fault the movie for having it like be a lighter face and like having a a sense of of a mask around like the emotional depth as far as like their relationship dynamic goes but i i say that and i still really enjoyed it i had a lot of fun with one i think two is a more fun movie but i think one is a better film overall yeah i probably agree with that i mean i love them both i'm excited to
Starting point is 00:11:22 to continue on the on the journey that is fast and furious yeah same i'm on board man and i what i do remember is that the next one um we're going to Tokyo we are Tokyo drift okay cool it's like a sequel spin-offesque kind of thing let's do it i'm excited cool beans okay Tara, do you have any final thoughts before we wrap it up? I don't. This is a lot of fun. I assume they're all going to keep being fun like this, like race car movies that are made for an audience to have fun in the theater, and I'm down.
Starting point is 00:11:58 I am down too. Okay, guys, we're down. Let us know in the comments below. We love you guys, and we'll see you in the next one. Doses. Gabriel. Gabriel, if there's anyone I'd want to be in a car ride with and a race car ride with,
Starting point is 00:12:16 with speeding going fast it would be gabriel taking those turns hair pin you know why gave we know why specifically you gabriel for this holiday christmas season why i'd want to be on a highway with you oh i can't even imagine what the reason could be on a highway to hell oh do you know why because you don't believe in god you're an atheist you're going to hell oh my god and it's jesus's birthday and you are suffering. We are taking, that's right. Racing for pinks. We are going to totally Brian you, as we call it here in the streets of LA.
Starting point is 00:12:54 We're going to totally act like we are your friend. That's right. You like hop in my Toyota Camry because that's where Brian drives. That's right. And then we are going to speed on the highway and drop you straight off to Satan's front door. That's right. Be like atheist number 12 delivered. Just get in line, wait for admission, hit the gnauss, bruh.
Starting point is 00:13:18 So we did. It's re-subverted expectations. Yeah, you wouldn't, I mean, we went in, he went in, he went in, and I'm thinking, we're going to just do a normal shout-out. Maybe we won't mention the atheist thing. No, dude, he didn't see any of this. Oh, boy. This is the best Christmas gift you could have wished for.
Starting point is 00:13:36 You just, you're not quick enough, man. You're not quick enough. Nah, man, you've got to get more clever. Don't worry. I get more cunning. Maybe January, 2025. You'll get there. We'll just do a regular one.
Starting point is 00:13:46 You'll get there. You won't bring up the atheist thing. Oh, what else is there to talk about? I mean, when you're an atheist, that's pretty much all you talk about. Literally. They're like the vegans of faith. Can't think about anything else. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:13:59 I don't like the vegans of faith. You know, always out here. Letting you know. That's a genius. All right. Merry Christmas, Gabriel. That's for you. Hope you're celebrating nothing.
Starting point is 00:14:13 Thank you.
