Thank you to Hewell for sponsoring this video. More on them in just a bit.
A haunted house. Commence.
We just watched A Haunted House. And if you are listening,
on Apple or Spotify, make sure you give us five stars we would so appreciate it. Also,
if you want cool T's or sweatshirts like these, RejectNation Shop.com, looks like we're about to
start a new movie here. I'm curious what it is, Tara. Let's see. We got the DreamWorks logo.
And we'll ignore that. While you're looking that up, I thought this was hysterical. I love how
it plays off, well, references, obviously, all the other films. Well, not all of them, but definitely
at least, I felt like
it referenced the first and the third
one the most, you know, with the oscillator
in 1988, some of the
other stuff, and then with the first
and then we got the cabinets from the second one.
So I loved all the references, but I
love how it plays off the tropes like
in such a funny way where when
like some of the things, maybe
we didn't vocalize out loud or maybe we talked
about in the review were like, why didn't they do
this or why did they do this or is this what we were
thinking here and I like how they play off of those
things. It was just, it was done just in a
funny but in a satirical way too and i just i thought it was hysterical yeah i love the humor in this
movie too what did you think was like the funniest part for you um when cedric there was one line
he said that that was probably my favorite just now i can't remember uh he's like something
something wrong with that bitch or something oh he goes there's there's something there's not something
right he's like this is this isn't right in here or something like that so i don't know one of his lines
This is one of my favorite lines in the movie, if not my favorite.
And I love how all these characters, too.
And again, in a movie like this, it works when the humor is like this.
It's parrity.
I love how all these characters for the most part are just one-note characters.
They're not trying to, because, again, in a film like this, you don't look for it.
I'm curious about the character development and the story.
No, God, no.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
But I love in these type of films when it's just one note and we stick to it.
Like, you got the psychic by Nick Swartson, who's so funny.
He's just trying to get with Malcolm the whole time.
Totally.
And then again, the foreshadowing is hysterical, have you ever been with a man?
And he keeps asking him that.
And then Tony, banged him.
Yeah.
And then he's like, I can sense something different with you.
So there was like that kind of humor that struck me in a hysterical way.
But also, too, I like how this film, last thing I want to get the point across and then I want
to hear your thoughts.
I like how this film also tackled like on a more serious manner, like,
when you move in with someone,
like how everything does kind of change.
Yeah, it does.
So like in a more serious sense,
even though it was played more for laughs,
I thought the film actually did tackle that.
I don't know in a serious way,
but it still like came off that way
in terms of like,
yeah, things do change and like your whole life
gets kind of flipped upside down.
It can be sometimes in a negative,
but also it can be for a positive.
I mean,
but that's part of like,
you know,
living with someone and falling in love.
It's about sacrifice and all that.
So,
I mean,
I'm not saying,
you know,
a dog should get.
hit or any of that stuff. But I mean, of course. Never. But the whole point is, I like that the whole
theme of change, you know, when someone moves in. Like, it's not changed for the better, but it's,
it's just more to elevate and, you know, help you grow as a human being. Yeah, it's kind of
funny how they end up, like, juicing it at the end and he lasts longer. And I'm like,
is it because, like, Toby came into their lives and now, like, he can actually perform?
Because remember when he's like, I tried Viagra, I tried this, you know, I've tried the
extends. I thought that was funny. Went through a lot of pain. Yeah. I thought that him in the bathtub
trying to get rid of herpes as though he's just like scrubbing it and oh, it fizzles. I was like,
this is so ridiculous, but for some reason that made me cackle. Yeah, I mean, this is a fun movie.
I feel like these movies particularly, because you guys have seen me watching scary movie,
and this has a scary movie S to it, is that it's not, it, I, like, it, it's, like, it,
what you were saying, it's not like there's a lot of character development. I'm not paying
attention to it because it's like amazing filmmaking. But what I will give this credit for is that
it does look like the paranormal activity movies. They did a fabulous job with the special effects.
That's the thing about a scary movie and this, a haunted house, is that they do a really good job
of making it look like the movies that they're parroting, which I very much appreciate. They don't,
they don't take, they don't make it look crappy, right?
Because they could take a big cut in the budget to make it not look as good.
They don't do that.
They make it look as good, which is the part of it that I think I really appreciate.
That's the filmmaking aspect of this movie that I like.
And yes, it's like, I'm like, oh, yeah, you know, it's funny.
I like that they have these characters, which I assume is, was a lot of it was improv,
which they have a lot of improvisers in here, which I love.
I don't know about his wife.
I haven't seen her improvised,
but the other two I have at Second City a few times.
Anyway, I think that this is a fun, like, parody blueprint.
And I think because of the paranormal activity movies were so popular
and obviously Exorcist, those are two fun ones.
And maybe some other Easter eggs that I didn't see.
But I did think, like, at the end, to have her speak,
like how the little girl speaks and the Exorcist is a little bit wild.
and they did the wall thing, which I liked.
It's all the special effects that I mostly with these movies
because I don't really, these aren't movies that hit me
where I'm like, oh my God, I watch this over and over.
There's something with me specifically and parody movies
and like comedies that are in this vein that don't like totally hit me.
And maybe it's because I'm here and I'm reacting.
So I feel like, oh, I get it.
That's a joke.
So maybe I feel like I might have.
to laugh versus if I was at home maybe I wouldn't and I would just I would just watch it and
sometimes be like I get it that's funny um I don't know I like I've been trying to figure it out
because everyone loves a scary movie and everyone loves it seems like I mean this has a really high
rating on to house and I do think that it is fun and funny like I get all the jokes it's written
well there's just something about it for me that I'm not like oh my God I love it so much
I want to watch it again, and I think it's like the funniest movie I've ever seen.
I don't feel that way about it, but I do appreciate the special effects a lot, and I think
it's just the vein of the comedy may not be up my alley.
Don't insult Tony like that.
Don't insult Tony like that, Tara.
Thank you to Huell for sponsoring today's video.
Now, guys, I'm going to give you all the God's honest truth of how this sponsorship came to be.
Sponsorship came to be.
We got contacted about basically partnering up.
with Hewell. Before we agreed to anything, the very first thing I said was I would like to try
the product first. I did a Instagram post on our Real Rejects one. It was the first time you
see me trying the Hewell product. Basically going like, hey, we might not partner with them.
This is not a paid Instagram post, but I just wanted to try it since a lot of you guys
asked for like health recommendations now and the know kind of what I take only because of the fact
that I'm vegetarian. I have very limited protein options. So I gave it a shot and ended up loving
it. Primarily the chocolate one. Wow, this is really, this is a really. This is a really
great one one of the best things about it is that yes it's pre-packaged and a lot of times when it comes to like the
prepackaged bottles i'm not a big fan of them normally which he got me drinking on camera
is one of these which takes a very long time to put together and can often get messy and it's just
not aesthetically pleasing but i'm trying to pack like a lot of vitamins and fiber protein the best
part about huel is a lot of what i try to package to this one giant shake is already available
in this little bottle often tastes better than what i can actually assemble myself it actually
taste great. It's got a high protein intake count as well. And you know what?
Brad new bottle. If you guys can see, it's filled to the top. This is how good it tastes.
The one thing they want me to say is this is you can get 15% off Hewled today with code Rejects at Hewl.com slash Rejects.
Fuel your best performance with Hewle today.
They are great and I am already almost out of the many bottles they sent me.
If you guys do go check them out at Hewold.com slash rejects.
You'll see they got a whole bunch more items available as well.
And if they taste anything as good as this, I'm going to be a very happy customer for a very, very long time.
So join me on this health journey.
I will say too.
I'm going to look up trivia while you talk.
I loved also too.
like when we talk about the one note character
some of my favorites obviously Cedric
the entertainer and normally in that circumstance
he was so good he's the funny
and he was only in the movie like less than 10 to 15
minutes but what I loved
about his character um you know
is the priest who's supposed to perform the exorcism
because anytime we've seen that like when we
excuse me when we watch the exorcist
yeah we saw from what I can remember
and Tara you remind me I know it's been
a while since we watched that movie and obviously you guys
mistake me or
correct me if I'm
mistaken. I remember though when we watched that movie like that that priest like he did he was
dealing with some like things in his past and some other stuff but he was very like courageous
and he was very brave. I remember when he was going into that room when he had to perform that
exorcism. And with Cetric the entertainer like I felt like he was like, oh you should just get
out of here. Something in here ain't right. But I like that he's like he's kind of like us the
audience and again in a spoof type of movie. I think it's just so appropriate and I loved it. I
I'm too glad that you brought him up because he was my favorite part.
Oh, he was hysterical.
Yeah, he's so funny.
I love Cedric.
Yeah, and then also, too, you got the camera guys who then became the ghost guys.
Yeah.
Again, playing the stereotype against black guys, like, with the cornbread comment, and then, like, you don't own this house, right?
And then some of the other crap.
And then you got those other two, the neighbors and the friends, rather, or whatever, clearly swingers before we saw them.
Totally.
I mean, some hysterical stuff in there.
I'm just trying to think what other characters
that just really stood out.
I think that's pretty much all the characters.
I think that's all the characters.
Not that many.
And I got to say, too, I know we talked about it
during the reaction really quick before you get to the trivia.
I freaking, I hope it's in there, but I loved that.
I mean, obviously, I haven't seen Pulp Fiction.
So I don't know.
I didn't recognize that line.
I'm sure most of you're like, how didn't Andrew know that Pulp Fiction?
I haven't seen it, which I mentioned during the reaction.
Andrew doesn't know all the line.
Yeah, but when he said snakes on a plane, I was like, oh my God, I love that this guy is referencing snakes on a plane because he's, those are my favorite types of self, of Easter eggs or references when someone, or meta jokes, when someone is in something and then they're mentioning it.
I just think that's hysterical.
Yeah, yeah.
I didn't know that he was in that.
I don't know if I've, have you seen snakes on a plane or not?
I don't know.
That might make great reaction.
Ooh, guys.
If it's like, if it's like this one, I've had a lot.
lot, too many parody movies.
No, no.
Snakes on a plane is not a parody movie.
It's snakes on a plane and they got to survive through the plane with snakes on a plane.
Okay.
Yeah, I think that'd make a great reaction.
Maybe if Roxy hasn't seen it, we get a Sheeject's reaction.
Yeah, maybe.
We'll have to find someone.
But if you do react to it, you'll recognize the camera or ghost guy.
Like, oh, he's the one who made the joke about his own movie.
Right, that he's the pilot.
I'll remember that.
So, yeah, yeah, because that movie came out, I believe, in 2006.
and I think this one's like 2013, so this is seven years later,
so it makes sense he would make that reference now.
Love it.
Yeah, let's get into some...
Let's do some trivia.
Pierre Daniel, who had a brief role in the film,
sued Marlon Wayans for racial harassment.
Wait, who sued him?
This Pierre Daniel.
This was after Wayans posted a side-by-side photo
comparing him to Cleveland Brown from Family Guy.
The case was thrown out after the judge pointed out
Daniel does, in fact, look like Cleveland Brown.
Can you click on the actor so I can just see who...
They're not allowing me to highlight Pierre Daniel,
but let me do it after I get through a few.
You guys can look him up.
I assume when it says, I mean,
I don't watch too much a family guy,
but who does Cleveland Brown look like?
I didn't really watch much family guy either.
Neither.
I think I know who Cleveland Brown is, though.
Does he wear glasses?
Because I was like, is he referring to?
No, that's Peter, I think.
Okay. I'm just going to do it now because we might forget. Pierre, Daniel.
Do you think he's one of the four guys that came in?
Oh, it's, it is the gay guy. It's the, it's the guy who tries to sleep with him.
No, no, no, no. That's Nick Swartson.
Daniel Pierre.
No, no, no. Here, you keep reading the trivia. I'll look it up. Continue.
Okay. Well, I'm going to have to go back now.
Uh, da, but da, da, oh, it went away.
There it is.
Okay.
At around 32 minutes in one of the scenes when Malcolm is taking notes,
Marlon Wayne breaks character and talks about how bad the scary movie franchise has gotten after the second one.
Did you hear that line in the movie?
I did not.
I didn't hear that line.
No, I didn't hear it at all.
I would have laughed.
You're on.
Wyatt's imaginary friend is named Tony, just like Danny's imaginary friend in the Shining 1980.
Yeah, but we think they're taking it.
from Toby in Tony was also the name of Keisha's childhood imaginary friend as seen through
a home movie in the first movie. Wait, why are they? Are you on a haunted house? I'm in the first
one. You're on a haunted house too. Yeah, there's not that many. No, you're on the second movie.
Okay. Hold on guys. It's like something sound, these are sounding like different things.
Hey, haunted. It's like something is sounding off.
right now.
It was like,
did we hear the
scary movie two thing?
I was like,
I don't remember hearing that.
Okay.
It was like I knew something
was off.
I'm like going crazy.
Okay.
All right.
This movie's release date
January 11, 2013
was the original restate
for scary movie
five before the latter
movie moved to the 2013.
Martin Wains,
who wrote and stars
in a haunted house
was one of the creators
of scary movie
franchise.
We already know that.
Yep.
The character of Dan,
the security man,
talks about the movie, Snakes on a plane.
He was a supporting role in that movie,
which Andrew just talked about.
Despite being panned by the critics,
the film nevertheless took over 60 million at the box office
from a budget of guests.
I'm going to go 20 million?
2.5.
Damn, this movie is that 2.5 mil?
Yep, they did it for cheap.
But if you think about it, it's only one location.
I bet the wayans didn't take much of a...
I was going to say from the actors.
And the actors aren't getting...
It's only a one-day day...
And some of the visual effects, I just, I figured like at least 10, 15, 20s where my mind went.
But, um, wow.
Nick Swartson was nominated for Golden Raspberry for the worst supporting actor for his work in this film.
I don't agree.
What, what did, it, it's a spoof film.
Like, come on.
He was, he was fine.
Do you think he deserved a Razzie award?
That's funny.
Would you agree with that, honestly?
No.
He's like, but.
He's fun.
He's hysterical in this.
I think he was funny.
Marlon Wayne's in essence, Atkins also appeared in Darcy.
Flick. There is not, uh, this also boasts a lowly 9% rot tomatoes. This got a nine, what movie did
And there's no spoiler trivia in this. That's literally all the trivia. It's not good for this movie. My whole thing would be
this for the critics. What movie did you think you were walking into would be my question.
You know what I'm again, is this an Academy Award? Of course not. It's not trying to be. That's why when I was
telling you guys, this movie is not up my alley, but I recognize it for what it is and it did a good job.
for being a parody spoof film,
they do a really good job of making fun
of paranormal activity,
especially when it comes to the
special effects. They did a great job.
Yeah. And they took a lot of,
they played with a lot of it and with the
Exorcist as well. Wow. Okay.
So, yeah, this movie got a 10% on Ryan Tomatoa,
and the audience gave it
a 51%. Wow, I expect
a little higher than that. Interesting.
Yeah. Well,
um, yeah. So that's
that's all I got to say for that.
All right.
Well, guys, what did you think of a haunted house?
Would you like Taryn myself to do a haunted house too, if you would?
Let us know in the comments below.
Is there anything else we missed?
Or let us know what else you'd want us to do.
Yeah, just in general.
I'd love to do too.
I know you would.
Yeah, we can do too.
No, I was just saying I'd love to do some Christmas horror films.
I know you and Roxy usually handle the horror films on the town.
I would love to do a Christmas horror.
If there's any Christmas horror, whether it's Gremlin's one or.
Let us know.
I haven't seen those.
Yeah, I have not seen either.
But if there's anything you can think of that you guys would like us to see or any other members of the channel, please let us know.
If you're still with us at this point, we appreciate it.
Thank you so much.
Love you.
Take care.
Make sure there are no ghosts in your bedrooms.
And we shall see you next time.
Later.
