Coy Jandreau (DC Studios), Tara Erickson, & Aaron Alexander are BACK to react to Alien: Earth Episode 4, "Observation." Dive into the dystopian depths of Alien: Earth, the audacious FX/Hulu sci-fi horror series from Noah Hawley (Fargo, Legion), set in 2120—two years before the events of the original Alien film. This world-blending prequel explores a fragmented society ruled by ruthless corporations through the lens of hybrid beings with human consciousness and synthetic bodies. In Episode 4, “Observation,” Wendy (Sydney Chandler) teeters on the brink of a terrifying breakthrough as her connection with Xenomorphs deepens, while Kirsh (Timothy Olyphant) pushes forward in dangerous experimentation. Harrowing scenes include a gruesome testing sequence involving organic specimens—like the distressing “eyeball lifeform” streaming attack—and a covert plot unfolds that places everyone in grave peril. This episode stamps Alien: Earth as a genre-defining standout, combining visceral horror with sharply observed corporate dystopia—humanity itself becomes the scariest monster..... Join Tara Erickson, Coy Jandreau, and Aaron Alexander as they break down the chilling themes, character evolution, and unforgettable visuals of "Observation." Let's get to it.
because this is one of our favorite shows of the year.
Oh, yeah.
It's the best.
Wild.
If you're listening to a Snap or Spotify,
give us a five-star rating, do all the things.
Like, comment, subscribe, and you do.
Ring the bell.
Ring the bell.
Yeah, I love this show.
Who wants to go first?
Give them your thoughts.
I'll go first.
I think this show is great.
It continues to be great.
and only raises the stakes from episode to episode.
I think this movie, this episode did a really great job
of having its primary theme or one of those primary themes
be choice or be desire, rather.
Each one of these characters is put in a position
where they have to do something that they don't want to do
but because of the things that they desire have to do.
You know, Wendy, she is working with Prodigy
to keep her brother there.
The Indian kid wants to save his family.
The brother wants to stay with his sister, so he, you know, sacrifices his own sense of freedom to stay there.
The girl who wants to, you know, please, Daddy is here to, you know, just continue to try to be subservient to him.
And I think, yeah, it's all coming together really, really good.
And I think these conflicting desires are only going to add to the temperature rising of the tension of the show.
and I'm excited.
I think this is a really strong episode.
Every episode's been strong.
It's only getting better and better as we go along.
And I, yeah, I'm excited to hear what you guys think.
Yeah.
I like what I'd say about choice.
I think it's interesting at the halfway point of a show.
There's always that inflection point of like midway.
It usually feels like a shift happens.
And choice is that here and then the ending is a xenomorph.
Like we've got a living xenomorph for the action,
but we've also got all those choices and the ramifications for the narrative.
I definitely am intrigued most by the...
There's an element to the boy genius to a cavalier
that is so Peter Pan, and they really play up that in this episode.
And I'm really wondering if he will make it out of this season
to be an element that stays behind the scenes.
Because I think this show's written to be not a...
a miniseries but like a full on series yeah and they've played him up enough that i'm really
curious if the wayland utani like the five coming up in this and like what the overall world
looks like and the lack of consequences he has like his lack of empathy like he does kind of
float above everything so i'm really curious uh just enjoying the characters like does he make it out
is there more him like what does this show become because it's removed from continuity um so now that
we're in the first half being completed i'm thinking like long term um but yeah i really was impressed by
how foreboding and intense a sheep was.
They really made me fear of sheep.
They really do a good job with lighting and framing everything to be so unnerving and so
disorienting and creepy.
And they're asking all the right questions.
And I really like our villain.
The villain's really manipulative and a really fun way because at first he was manipulating
him as a child and then he started manipulating him as an adult and he's just got him totally
cornered.
He feels like there's nothing he can do.
And I feel like most of the characters feel that way at this point in the season.
like they're all trapped in their own way yeah really really dug it yeah i i love um how friendship
came up a lot in this and specifically when anews was talking to kersh in the room and kersh is like
why do you have these three monkeys on your wall and then he uh anews says to him friends don't
lie which i'm like stranger things straight up but also um he is walking now into a group of his
friends and he's going to be lying for a very long time now that he's met kumi so i just think that like
the fact that that line came out of his mouth and now you know he's in cahoots and he is pissed
about like i mean if you think about it from his aspect it's like his mom is in straight up danger
kumi is so like just forbearing and overbearing and then you know he arrives and sees like hermit there and
he's just he's mad about it but he cannot tell them about the freaking egg that he's got to steal
unless he does i just thought like the whole hear no evil speak no evil all of that i'm like
that's exactly what he's going to be doing if he's like up with kahumi kahoots with kumi um so i really
like the the aspect of friendship here because i think it's all going to derail like especially with
you know, curly and, um, and then his best buddy, I forget his name, but like there's no way that
you can really come back once they figure out that like, you're going to have to sneak in a human
and the humans already sneaked in. If he takes hermit, holy tamale, how is you not going to get
caught? How is it? Like, I'm already thinking too, way too far ahead. But, um, I just think that
I'm very excited to see how it all plays out. Like,
And especially at the end, like, it reminded me of Wendy and the little xenomorph.
It reminded me of Dustin and Bart, how they, you know, they kind of fall in love with each other.
And that's a little part of her brother in there.
And now that she can speak to it, I'm like, oh, wait, what's going to happen?
Like, this show is insanely good.
I love that two things I just thought of from what you were just saying.
I forgot this episode started out with the reveal of her talking to alien.
Like, that is such a new bit of lore.
and like to be able to communicate to a xenomorph elevates everything so much more because they're weapons like the reason whalen utani likes them is the weaponry and like that's why they're cultivated in the original like movies and now it's a weapon you can speak to which i think is really interesting and a new dynamic and the other thing i just thought of from what you were saying um i totally called it they stole those kids the mom didn't know yeah so like those kids are stolen yeah and and the conversation about whether it's six AI that think they're human or we killed six
children like what a what a line like what a brutal reality of what these scientists have done
at what cost but the mom did know they stole them kids it's like that it's like that
husband is the only one who's really grounded in reality he's like our one he is like us he's
like the one person because his wife is is very close with cavalier we can tell that you know
he wants to speak his mind she gives him a look and then it's not coming out what a fun twist like
we're halfway through the season yeah he's like wife wife you're like
What a regular day-to-day life twist.
Totally. I loved it.
I loved it.
We got Shy Malon in the middle of the season with like wife and it's supporting characters.
It's so good.
And now it's like it's almost like they have children together without actually having them and there's six of them.
And that's I think why she took it so so strongly to heart of like, well, or we killed six kids.
And you know, she's like, no, there's no way kind of a thing.
Oh, man, this show's whack.
It's whack.
It really, there are so many points of like, just that there's so many pathways, like, within this story.
And it says written by Noah Holly and Bobak S. Far Johnny.
And I really like specifically where it's going because there's like so many pathways with so many characters that keeps the pacing up.
But it's not so much so that it gets like overly convoluted and you're like, what the hell's going on?
It's very, very clear.

Yeah.
Oh, and crazy girl this episode.
What's that?
Crazy girl's pregnant.
Right.
Yeah.
A lot happened.
A lot of things.
Pet in the stork.
And that we're starting to see the cracks in whether their minds are accepting their new bodies, which I was talking about last episode, whether or not that would come to play.
And I think we're seeing those mental breaks.
Yeah.
Because, like, what if she does end up, like, I think you call an ectotopic pregnancy where you can build it.
up in your brain and then your belly gets bigger like you had a baby that's a thing that's a thing
in our reality it's it's a real it's a real thing how do you without even sperm you just
correct a baby your body you're not it's not in there your body starts to form like you are
holding a baby because you have basically kind of manifested that it's called like echo
ecotopic topic topic pregnancy something around that word we're close ecoplasm pregnancy don't cross
streams or a baby happens you've thought yourself into having a babyless womb uh-huh that's wild
i never knew that yeah people can get so yeah but it's real isn't that wild and that's why i'm like
dude if we skip back and nibs is like what i don't think so exactly that's the question but
she's synthetic so there's a little bit of juice human in there kind of i don't know man
i love the i love the fact that we can have a show about alien that
utilizes alien in a way where it's still
interesting yet minimal.
We don't have a ton of xenomorph, but...
All we have is a baby this episode.
All we have is a baby, but we have these other little variants of xenomorph
and offshoots, but it's the characters and these conversations about morality and choice
and desire that make it.
And like, yeah, even with going back to the thing about desire, you know, the kid Isaac
wanted a name.
The girl Nibs wants a baby.
They all want something.
And I feel like, yeah, these things that they desire
are all coming into conflict with each other,
at least they're going to at some point.
Well, this was the episode I felt like all of the lost boys
were trying to be human.
He's trying to have a friend.
She's trying to have a baby.
He's trying to have a name.
All of them are trying to be human.
Carly's trying to be the special one.
Yeah.
It's not going to get there.
But that wasn't, I don't think they ever thought of it.
Right.
Or we didn't seem to seem like they were trying anything.
They just were.
Yeah.
And now they're like, oh, I need this special thing, special thing, which is human.
very and it's like the best it's like the note that you'd always get in writing of like what does
the character want yeah without them you know fully saying it out loud right they're just showing
that to us but also i just thought of that right now the kids may be the most dangerous
over the freaking the xenomorph yeah more's a baby Wendy can communicate to it and we saw
nibs almost literally killed the doctor lady that was so scary and Wendy killed
one in the beginning of last episode.
Yes. And like, I'm talking about
Nibs is unstable and if you mess
with Wendy's brother who knows what's going to happen
and it looks like
Anush is going to mess
with Hermit and then
I don't know. I think he's going to be pure chaos
as like red wedding. Also, Kersh is
just standing back watching everybody. What the
hell does he want? Yeah, I love that Kershman. Alphan's
got such presents. He can just like a look through a window
right and you're like, exactly.
Also, he was listening to the conversation.
Yes.
He can hear both sides of it.
his dad observing oh my god yeah man i'm i'm fascinated by him like and he's so calculating because
he's a computer yeah and did they did they establish that uh prodigy built him as well because
his his whole thing seems to be the hybrids but he's he's fully android so i'm like i wonder
if like wailen yeah yeah prodigy bought him from waylin or he if he just made an android and
he was like the only one because he seems to be the only one that's purely android in this whole
show. Yeah, because I don't think
Cavalier has ever taken credit
for him. I feel like we would have heard that.
Yeah. He was just like, you're just a
computer or whatever he said in the first
one or second episode. Yeah, maybe
he was a gift or something. Yeah, there's, there's
there going to be another twist. Who knows? It is very
interesting. He's the only fully
synthetic thing here. We've had
different variations of that. And
that's a very prominent part of the alien
lore, the synthetics. Like, why
do you guys think he was like patting the
egg with the juice?
his hand I can't I thought that he needed to moisturize oh god shut up you know like snail mucin
he made it some snail mucin for his under eyes it's like he knows the plan though he knows
the plan with kumi and anouche he goes to pet the freaking egg and then he's staring through
the glass at at wendy with the xenomorph and she's like talking to it and I'm like what's your
plan here the computer man alien mucon felt like a power play it felt like like I can do this but
If I was organic, I couldn't.
To me, that felt like a moment of like, he-he.
Okay, I like that.
It might pay off more, but that's how I interpreted that moment.
I don't think it would, because we already seen him looking through the glass.
He has clearly changed settings.
Yeah, like, doing something.
Yeah, I think that was just a moment of like, I'm in control.
Yeah, I was having.
And that was right after the scene of this sheep.
And talking about its intelligence, him watching.
Yes.
And he was like, see how intelligent and see how it's watching us.
I feel like that was a moment of him being like,
I'm the superior organism.
Yeah, like, look at my cognitive ability.
Yeah, I can pet this.
Wasn't that after the plan to get a human into the thing
so an egg could hatch on his face?
I believe so.
After he was listening to that, I'm...
I was like, yes, my egg.
I don't know.
I think he's playing.
I don't know which is a lot going on.
There's so much.
We watch a lot of stuff.
It's good stuff.
Do you guys have any last?
thoughts that you want to tell or share with
your people. I just want to watch episode
5. It's so good. I know.
We love it. Anything last?
I think it is
a very interesting conversation about what makes
something human. And I think at the end
it'll be an interesting conversation
much like the first alien is of like what
humanity is versus
what human is. I think
the billionaire, trillionaire commentary in the original
in this are going to be very interesting to
is a hybrid going to end up being
more humane than a
human right and how close are we to that in our real world yeah we shall see spooky we love you guys
to the moon and back thanks for joining us do all the right things we love you up see on the next one
