Starting point is 00:01:18 I'm so ready. Let's go. Yeah. Okay. Oh, oh boy. Oh, boy. Do we know if there's after a credit scene? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:01:34 I don't think so. I don't think so. I can, we can just, like, turn the volume down. I can keep the credits rolling just in case anything pops up. Yeah, it's a good idea. Guys, if you're listening on Apple or Spotify, we just watched Alien versus Predator Requiem. And it was a movie. Yeah. Tara, would you think of?
Starting point is 00:01:59 They put together some scenes, some stuff. You know, I think mostly what gets to me, and I say this about any film, is that if there is not any emotional depth and I do not like care at least about one person, then I'm not, if there isn't heart, right? There's no heart in this movie. There could have been more with the brothers. I like that relationship. I know that the little brother needed his big brother. He's being bullied. Like, we could have just stayed in that world.
Starting point is 00:02:37 Like, we really, it got really convoluted by adding all these different things in thinking that'll make a cool plot when they all end up together and they have to fight them together. And I'm like, yeah, but we're really missing a very important part that I think will connect to audiences all around, which is generalized caring about, generalized like heart, just have heart in the movie so that somebody cares about who's on here so when they're close to death
Starting point is 00:03:04 and in this dangerous circumstance that we're kind of on the edge of our seat. I was not scared at all during this movie. There was a cool, don't get me wrong, there was some cool fight stuff and some cool kills that we saw, like, you know, his nose came off, the arm came off.
Starting point is 00:03:23 They did have some great, special and practical effects. But what annoyed me to is that they didn't pull out so that we could actually see the predator versus the predator alien fight each other. I was so lost during that fight. I was like, who is hitting who, what is going on until he ripped out the tongue.
Starting point is 00:03:42 But I wanted to see more of it. That is why we come and watch these movies. That's the whole point. It's alien versus predator. And we didn't really get to see that. It was a lot of close-up cuts. It started to make me think, was it a budget issue? Because you couldn't afford to have the predator alien and the alien and the predator all on set at the same time or something.
Starting point is 00:04:05 So we had to just do coverage on the alien, then coverage on the predator, except for the ending scene. They were obviously in the same shot. But a lot of the other ones, they were not in the same shot. I don't know if that's why. It's just a stylistic choice. Fine. It just didn't have heart and I didn't care. So the plot, the plot to me, the way that it was written, I was like, not great writing to really take me into a place where I get really attached to a character and now they're moving. Oh my God, they have to fight off the aliens. She has to protect her daughter. Like just stay on one, right? Like stay on the mom, the dad, and the daughter. Stay on them and the aliens come in or choose the brother relationship where he's getting bullied. Like they're just,
Starting point is 00:04:53 too many moving parts that's that's what i got to say uh yeah it's funny because uh i didn't know anything about this movie going into it really i just knew that people didn't like it i didn't know why people didn't like it um yeah but again that regardless we've we've watched movies that have got negative reviews before where we ended up liking it so that is not indicative of our opinion yeah we never know exactly yeah that being said um like you'll see when i just have to tell them you'll see when dark phoenix comes out i reacted to that with andrew i love that movie and at the end i did not realize that most people don't like it so that is proof for you to know that like we really do go into this blind we don't we try
Starting point is 00:05:40 we try not to let those opinions affect us like at all we can know about them but we still go in the movie pretty pretty clear-headed it's our own viewing experience yeah exactly um yeah Yeah, this movie was not good. I just felt like this movie didn't really have a plot. I felt like I didn't care about any of the characters. And the thing that we're really here for is alien versus predator, right? And you think when you hear a premise like that, combining two franchises, there's a high potential for something like that to go wrong. And the first one worked really well for both of us.
Starting point is 00:06:26 And this is an example of how that concept can be executed not well. And the thing that makes it so disappointing is the fact that, one, you can't really see the alien or the predator really do anything with two factors being at play. One, how dark it is, two, how close the cutting is, how close the shots are. So we can't really process what's happening, which takes away from the enjoyment. They also at least try to attempt to do some semblance of horror attention, but they don't sit with it long enough to really let it have an effect. And that's just the alien predator side of things. You know, I really like the fact that with each movie prior to this,
Starting point is 00:07:13 we are either establishing what this thing is or building upon the mythology. And I feel like this movie didn't really do either. It felt like it was phoning in the experience. We didn't really get to build the mythology. We didn't really get to understand why this was happening. The whole movie kind of felt like an accident because at the end of the first movie, Alien versus Predator, they were there because they have their annual thing of the aliens being harvested so the predators can fight them for their, for their, like, ritualistic things they do every hundred years. This one was just like, okay, this thing that happened.
Starting point is 00:07:50 that has never happened before happened to the predator and then their ship crashed and they just happened to be in the small town and all these characters are kind of reacting to this event happening but all these characters that they've established we don't really get the chance to really get to know them and coupled with the fact that when we do get to know them they'll just die had habit has hazard haphazardly haphazardly thank you and it just is really unfortunate because it makes the whole experience feel kind of empty and I'm someone who likes character I know I say that all the time and you know I like my favorite type of movies are good character films mixed with interesting plots but when you have neither of those things
Starting point is 00:08:34 happening it just kind of makes for an empty hollow experience and it's disappointing because we watched like I want to say this is like our ninth movie in this franchise so far and I think yeah I'm Alien vs Predator I rang to all of them and this This easily for me comes in last, like between Alien, Between Predator, Alien vs. Predator, I want to say ADP is first, and this is probably nine in that franchise. And it's really unfortunate because I really enjoy both of the things these franchises give to us, which is horror, which is action, which is mythology, which is terror and interesting ways of building upon what they've established before.
Starting point is 00:09:18 and I feel like this movie is like something happened in the editing room I have no idea and I'm just curious as to like what their processes were as to far as as far as like okay we have this first movie that we establish something cool how are we going to build upon that and I feel like there were so many cool directions they could have gone in which they didn't really take the time to explore like the fact that you have an alien predator yeah exactly one and like okay what does that mean like what does that mean like what does it have? What powers do they have? Do they operate the same? Exactly. And I wish we would have gotten some sort of insight as to, you know, why they are the way they are. What's their motivation? Why do they do? And granted, they're obviously not human, but at least in those other movies, we got to understand them a little bit more. Hell, Prometheus and Alien, though they gave us a lot of questions, at least gave us some semblance of answers as to why this was happening, how they operate. And this movie doesn't really provide any of that. It just kind of treats her like, yeah, you know the alien. know the predator yeah they do what they do when they're gonna fight and i really appreciated a vp for not granted it did have that but at least they put a plot made something interesting based off of what we know about both of these um these creatures and this movie didn't care to even attempt to add to that and that's probably coupled with the the scares and the action itself the building of the mythology is one of my favorite parts of it and and i'm sure there's some book or some comic or some novel that really expands upon like what the
Starting point is 00:10:51 predomorph is if that's what it's called by by the fan base and but I just did not really get that I know that they have a different type of goop than the alien does and they have dreads like the predators do and they're cool with the aliens and they're not cool with the predators and that's pretty much it and yeah guys like you know we appreciate you guys for joining us on this journey and we are continuing with Predator and obviously Romulus when that comes out
Starting point is 00:11:23 but I just want to know like one if there are people that do like this movie what is it that I invite us to have a conversation what do you enjoy about it what is what's like the elements I will say
Starting point is 00:11:35 because there was still some cool stuff yeah yeah because there was still some cool stuff in it like I would say like we probably agree that there was still some I think even you said it out loud like some cool practical effect totally yeah there's some cool practical effects i said it throughout the reaction i really thought
Starting point is 00:11:51 the perdomorph looked very cool i thought there's some cool kills in it um here and there and you know if if that's all if that's what this movie has to offer i will gladly go back and look up specific scenes to kind of reminisce or re-enjoy but i don't know if i'll ever watch this movie again i will not watch this movie There's like, you know, some cool special effects. Like, like I said, when his arm comes off, when the chesties go in, like when he, when one of the facehuggers goes into that lady and then she burrs out three chesties from her belly. That was interesting. That was cool.
Starting point is 00:12:33 Like, there's still some cool stuff about this, but I agree that they didn't stay on anyone shot long enough, which I think just would have given us a lot more. more, we just would have dove in a lot more if you just would have stayed on a master shot just so we could establish what the heck is going on here. But we stayed mostly in mediums and close-ups and a lot of cutting back and forth. But yeah, I mean, I won't watch this movie again, you know, and that's okay. That's just me. I, but I will always stay true to what I always say if the movie doesn't have heart i don't care yep and this movie didn't have that it can have all of like the horror aspects and the cool like um scenes with like fights and cool kills like i love all that stuff but i mean of course in the first alien and we they established like
Starting point is 00:13:39 we care about those people yeah and i think that's why i will always still even through this whole thing go back to that one because I cared and when they died it's not like I was like crying but I did care and I was like oh whoa and I also was scared because I was on the edge of my seat following those people around that we we had established a relationship with and these guys and this we didn't and yeah if it doesn't have heart I don't care this movie didn't really have any heart it was mostly just set up to maybe have you know the predator aliens kill them I get it have more people to kill, but it just didn't hit home for me. And that's it. That's all I got to say. Yeah. For me, Alien 1, Aliens, Predator, and AVP are the four shining lights of this franchise
Starting point is 00:14:26 for me. And this movie did not hold a candle to those films. But that being said, I'm still enjoying this journey. And I still love and appreciate you guys for joining us on this journey. Yeah. I hope you guys let us know what you guys like about this movie or what you don't like. Give us all your feedback in the comments. And yeah, we will be back with the next one, guys. Until next time, do this is. Lorne Cardinal?
Starting point is 00:14:55 Lauren. I don't know what's happening here, but it says that you got two-twenties here. Oh, my. Did we miss shouting you out? I haven't seen your name yet. Maybe you've jumped up into the big leagues. Maybe Lauren like did that thing where they pledged
Starting point is 00:15:11 like right at the end of the month. Yeah, it's like on the 20th, 30th of September. They could just get a ticket on the bus to the shoutouts, but that's not how it works sometimes. Just slip right in the cargo bay. Sometimes we miss an email notification, and I think that might be what happened. Could have been. I'm sorry. I'm sorry, Lauren.
Starting point is 00:15:31 So we got to do this proper. We're on the apology tour now. I mean, there's a way to find out. Yes, so as of October the first, you have bumped up. You joined the big leagues. Look out now. But according, that doesn't equate to 40. They're, it only shows their three most recent bills.
Starting point is 00:15:51 Show me all of Lauren's payment history. Let's litigate your payment history. Well, I want to know if. Just to make sure. No, no, yeah. They were fives and now they're, and this is their first month. This is their first one. You thought we would be.
Starting point is 00:16:06 Oh, no. Receiped by your seats. Literal receipts. We. have proof and we're taking you to court. Wow, you thought you could cancel us. Yeah. L stands for litigation, which
Starting point is 00:16:21 is what we're going to do to you. Yeah, pull through her name again. Yeah, something's wrong now. I think it's an O next, but let's make sure. Let's go back, yeah. Checking your lives has ruined the interface which is your grand. Oh, stands for, oh my, you son of a
Starting point is 00:16:37 bitch, you thought you can get away with it. R stands for really? How dare you. E stands for end of all time again. N stands for
Starting point is 00:16:53 no more. C stands for ccuff. You, you're a cacophony of awful. A stands for apocalypse, which it is now, it is. R stands for
Starting point is 00:17:08 rain hell on you. D. D stands for digging us a grave. I stands for ice bucket, because we're going to freeze your body. N stands for nitrous oxide, which we're also going to freeze your body even more with. A stands for acid to melt your body.
Starting point is 00:17:32 Oh, and then L stands for litigation, which will most likely happen when we are caught for dissolving your frozen body. LEL stands for That was literally what you started. I know, it was a bookend. I was like, we started off litigating Lauren. It did not read that way.
Starting point is 00:17:50 It read lazy. I, L stands for lazy, which I was just being. And you have every right to try and swindle and cheat us based on my own dishonesty. Sorry, Lauren. Thank you for being so generous. Not next month, man. You won't get away with this twice. Not next month.
Starting point is 00:18:10 Trick or treat. You know?
