Starting point is 00:02:18 seasons keep your eyes peeled keep your eyes peeled your bottoms open don't be sucking on no flutes where the booty's booted me John of my boy. Yes, sir. What did you think of this movie? This was, it was American Pie too. It was absolutely American Pie too. It was definitely that.
Starting point is 00:02:40 I agree. Yeah, this has been really fun so far. I heard a lot of people in the comments sounding off saying that they like two even more than the first one. I don't know exactly which one I like more yet, but this, I mean, this being the unrated version and being that we watch the first movies, unrated version, I feel like the first movie's unrated version flowed maybe a little better, even though that movie also had certain times where I'd be like, oh, this character has been gone for a while. This one, you know, I feel like mainly the scene in the bedroom went on for a while.
Starting point is 00:03:16 For a long time. For a while. And so that was, yeah, that was maybe a little less just like rhythmic and, you know, I don't know. The first one seemed like it was moving at a tight clip or tighter clip. But no, I mean, this, what do you expect and want from an American pie where they've gone to college now? I mean, this one, I guess, is a bit more, I remember being surprised by the first one in that it is a bit of a romance as well. It does have that sort of hesitate to say Shakespearean quality, but that classic quality of like a comedy romance where like, oh, yeah, there are going to be a bunch of couples at the end and we're going to grow a little bit and we're going to learn.
Starting point is 00:03:57 and like it's not only about the horny jokes, it's also, you know, got a little bit of heart. And this managed to recreate that pretty well and managed to, I think, establish this as a franchise that I would imagine will have, you know, sort of a laundry list of quintessential beats and moments that we have to hit. And so it's fun to watch those, you know, take shape further.
Starting point is 00:04:20 And, yeah, have a little bit more of like, they clearly added, you know, a greater stifler presence, as you pointed out. Which I thought, you know, I mean, as much as that character obviously is not the savouriest guy. Shaw William Scott is very fun to watch. He's great. He's good in the role. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:36 And I mean, in a lot of ways, I felt like this was kind of proportional to the first movie and that like you mostly, you get a lot of Jason Biggs's stuff. You get a lot of, oh God. I feel like, you know, Chris Klein and the other dude, Thomas Ian Nicholas, are kind of in the middle because, you know, it's like they're both kind of being held at distance. from their particular relationships and stuff like that and kind of dealing with the angst of that and in the first movie there were times where I would sort of forget
Starting point is 00:05:04 about certain aspects of like the Tara Reed story or whatever but yeah I mean in terms of just taking this yeah this felt like very much akin to the first movie but just a little bit bigger just a little bit raunchier
Starting point is 00:05:16 and yeah in a fun blend of okay we've got some of the familiar places and sets so this feels like a real silly world and now we're going to the beach which is like a perfect, again, summer and, you know, young people, fantasy getaway location, you know. Yeah, I mean, this certainly lived up to the hype. Yeah, man.
Starting point is 00:05:39 What would you say? What would you say? I did have fun with this one as well. I think I kind of know more definitively. I like the first one more than I like this one. I think that's mainly due to the fact that I'm just a sucker for coming of age comedies and the fact that it was all these kids trying to like have their friends. first time and then that couple with the heart and it felt like they each had their own
Starting point is 00:06:00 arc to go through and that stuff was a surprise the first time whereas now we know what to expect and this one is going for more bits than it is going for that even though it doesn't lose complete side of that I'd say yeah yeah I feel like this one definitely more bit heavy even though the first one had bits but I feel like um what's handsome guy's name perfect Chris Klein Chris Klein I feel like he didn't really have an arc and his girlfriend was just like oh they're checking in on their relationship. So, you know, that's still happening. And I'm glad they didn't write her all the way out.
Starting point is 00:06:30 But yeah, it's just sort of like, will they make it? I guess they did. Yeah. Good for them. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It was a relatable struggle, but not ultimately like the biggest, you know, drama. No, totally not. But I think the thing I really enjoyed the most about this movie is one, Jason Biggs and his endearing heart and, like, the awkwardness that comes from him and his comedy.
Starting point is 00:06:52 I like Finch every time he was on screen. I was laughing. His delivery is just so killer I love the friendship between all the guys I feel like that definitely is very present in this movie as far as it being like this frontal force of like about their relationship I feel like we got a lot more of them
Starting point is 00:07:08 like all together this time around whereas the first one they were like the center point but they would all go off on their own arcs and I feel like you did get some of that in this new one or in the second one but I feel like they were definitely together a lot more yeah the first one has that this is the longest block of song credits by the way
Starting point is 00:07:24 That's an epic soundtrack. Yeah, the first one has that thing where you do feel like, oh, yeah, we're divided up the way you would be in high school by, like, different class schedules and different, you know, extracurriculars and, you know, you go, you spend a lot more time at home. Whereas here, yeah, it's like all the bros are hanging together for the most part. Yeah, I think I would have, I think the optimal time for me to have enjoyed this between like 12 and 16. Sure. But that being said, I still really enjoyed it here in 2024 as, you know, an adult approaching 30. Yeah, yeah, you know, because there's definitely some stuff that's a little bit aged for sure, just like the mythic nature of there being lesbians in the world, you know? Oh, sure.
Starting point is 00:08:08 I was like, yeah, this is very 2001, you know? That scene felt like we sidestepped into a pocket universe that was taking place inside of an, just like we stopped the theatrical Hollywood. movie to make an adult movie for a little while. But then we couldn't really do that all the way. So we went back to making just an actual, you know, narrative movie again. Yeah, yeah. That whole thread felt like a detour into a different kind of filmmaking. I think that's the part for me that felt the most middle school.
Starting point is 00:08:40 Like, you got to touch his ass. Ew, gross, I got to touch his butt. I was like, all right. Whatever. And, yeah, like, if you've made it this far, comment and let us know how that plays, because I'm sure that's in the rated cut. but that does feel like something where like once you get the joke you're like okay fun we get to see the bluff called on stifler and you know it's semi interesting i guess that he is ultimately willing to transgress his uh or rise above his you know uh latent homophobia is his gay panic to get to the real prize at the end of the rainbow and to broaden his uh what he's open to uh sexually speaking
Starting point is 00:09:22 But at the same time, yeah. Once you get the joke, you get the joke and the joke keeps going. And then again, it does feel like you're just actually watching an adult film for a minute. Yeah, no, for sure. And the two girls, too, like, it makes sense why they're playing it up so high. But at the same time, again, it's, I've heard a lot of people bringing this up in relation to other things lately. But it does kind of feel like one of those moments where you're parodying something and then you just kind of become the thing instead. Right, right.
Starting point is 00:09:50 No, I will say, though, for as many gags as there were in this movie, I did like the fact that they kind of gave us a glimpse into Nadia being like an actual person, even because I was kind of sad for her, and she was like, I wish I had my geek. But yeah, it was like, it's weird, it's this combination of the continuation of what we like about their friendships, while also some people and some characters having a progressive nature of their relationships like Jason Biggs' character. and the girl from band camp. I can't remember that in Hanigan. Allison Hanigan. Whereas, you know, the fitch's character, even though he's hilarious and his progression is the fact that he's like spiritual now for the sake of sexual conquest.
Starting point is 00:10:32 But his objective, I guess it's continuation of his objective from the last movie, which is still for his mom, but that's like the thing he watched with the entire film. And, you know, it's fun and it's funny. I can say I had a good time with it. And yeah, this is a series that I'm enjoying watching with you
Starting point is 00:10:49 and I'm enjoying watching with you guys. well and yes it's a good old time you know good old american pie time yeah you know and i know know that we have like at least in the main universe of the american pie movies we have two more if we wedding and reunion wedding and reunion yeah so i'm curious to see like where these characters go in these new phases of their life we've seen high school we've seen college yeah where they were they going next i was that's that is an interesting thing and i wonder if there's anything in fact we could close this out maybe with a little trivia uh because they made me wonder to because Shannon Elizabeth shows up in that first movie
Starting point is 00:11:22 as such like your role here is to do like a comedic but certainly very much a nude scene you know you're here to be beautiful on screen and for the camera to like Google you and stuff and so I wondered maybe if
Starting point is 00:11:40 this movie like the way that the character is handled here which it's like she doesn't lose the energy of the character whatsoever but you know it's certainly not she's not on screen in the same capacity that she is in the other one. I wonder if there's anything to that. Like if she just
Starting point is 00:11:56 I feel like as people especially actresses get, I don't know, when you're in the position to come back for a sequel, I feel like you also have more room to negotiate and maybe you can be like, hey, I want to kind of have a say in how much I'm showing on screen or whatever. Or maybe not. Maybe it's just like what they wanted to do with the plot, but
Starting point is 00:12:16 at the same time, I don't know. It did seem like a market thing, But, yeah, it's like I liked that in the first movie, at first you're like, oh, she showed up to be hot. And then you get that payoff of like, oh, but she actually does like like like him. And this weird little thing that happened has actually like become, you know, the flint spark of some type of connection and relationship. And here I like that, yeah, I like what they made of that. Like I said, I, they surprised me in that I didn't think I would care as much about like, oh, man, like Allison Hannigan is really good for him. But Nadia is really sweet. and they have chemistry too.
Starting point is 00:12:49 And, you know, I like what their relationship has become, but also, yeah, the distance of it and the growth that can happen in that time. You know, like that was one of those things that was like, oh, that's a surprising little, you know, nuance I didn't expect here. And I liked that it, you know, had to do with that character. And that's a fun payoff for Sherman.
Starting point is 00:13:06 All I can hope for because, you know, Nadia deserves it is that Sherman's an actual, you know, all right guy underneath, you know. And I like that she meets him in that moment where he is kind of like monologuing to himself, you know, in a moment of dropping, you know, the bit, you know, dropping the facade or whatever, the thing he's always doing, the put on he's always got. Yeah, I agree with you. Reject Nation, I just want to take a quick second to thank today's sponsor because as a business owner, I am surprisingly not the greatest at handling and tracking finances. It just doesn't come naturally to me.
Starting point is 00:13:45 I can definitely have an oversight when it comes to certain things. And I'm sure you can relate with this. I hate the feeling of paying for something that I just haven't thought about it in a while. Or worst, I just keep forgetting to cancel. Procrastination is the name of the game. And that's why, before we ever partner with today's sponsor, about a year and a half ago, I started using Rocket Money. I'm glad to have this ongoing partnership with them because I already used their products.
Starting point is 00:14:07 So it just makes it a win-win. But seriously, they've been a lifesaver. Rocket Money is a personal finance app that simplifies managing money by canceling unnecessary subscriptions, lowering bills. Rocket money does the heavy lifting by analyzing your spending, then customizes notifications to help you stay within your budget goals. Over 74% percent, not 75, 74% of people, forget about subscriptions they don't use. I was paying for things I don't even remember subscribing to.
Starting point is 00:14:32 Free trials will do that. One of the best things about Rocket Money, they found those things and canceled them for me effortlessly. What I really love about Rocket Money is organization. It puts everything in one place. Imagine just seeing all your subscriptions. and with just a tap, you're able to cancel the ones you don't want. It even compares your spending month to month, keeping you on track for more financial success.
Starting point is 00:14:52 Money's the name with the game. Rocket Money can also negotiate lower bills for you up to 20%. With over 5 million users and over $500 million saved and cancel subscriptions, it's helped people save up to $740 a year. Starting point is 00:15:26 I will say that something that was missing for me in this movie was, what's your name, Jessica? The Terry's friend. She was so great in the first movie and she showed up in this movie but like that actress
Starting point is 00:15:38 Natasha Leone, is all right? She's so great. She's so good. community timing is great her acting is great and I wish they would have utilized her more yeah yeah I would agree with that I'm dying oh get some trying try it no I would agree with that
Starting point is 00:15:58 she was such a great character the first time and she had such an awesome presence and she was such a nice sort of middle ground sort of isolated but warm presence in between everybody else's angst and she's got such a knowing quality and yeah every time she showed up here I was grateful for it. But I do wish, yeah, in the first movie she feels more
Starting point is 00:16:17 vital to what's going on whereas here it's like I'm happy they included her but yeah, it doesn't seem like they really had much for her to do. But here, let's read a little bit trivia. Sean William Scott improvised some of his dialogue. This can be observed by his classmates'
Starting point is 00:16:34 reactions in some scenes such as when he tells Jessica he wants to know how many women she has slept with that year. Natasha Leon's amused reaction is genuine. That's fun. I think of like, is she a real-life lesbian?
Starting point is 00:16:47 In the scene when Alice and Hannigan, Michelle is breaking up with Jim, her hair is styled differently than normal. This is because she was shooting an episode of Buffy and she had to run over to the set during a break. That's great. That's fun.
Starting point is 00:17:01 That's wonderful. And yeah, these would be like big concurrent now. Eddie K. Thomas was laughing so hard at Sean William Scott's antics during the lesbian scene that he had to be cut out of several shots. This is why the C.
Starting point is 00:17:13 contain a lot of shots of Just Diffler and Jim even though Finch is supposed to be standing right next to them. That's fun. Missing from the theatrical release is a scene showing the band camp leader with a rash around his mouth the morning after having played the trumpet that was inserted into Jim.
Starting point is 00:17:33 I am still fascinated as to how that physically worked out given the shape of those things. I don't understand it. It was funny. And here's the answer to my question. fearing typecasting. Shannon Elizabeth declined to perform a nude scene for this sequel.
Starting point is 00:17:48 Respect. I don't think she needed it. T.B.H. I don't think they needed it. And yeah, justice for naughtyish character. The lesbians in the house, the lesbian's house in reality is across the street from the house
Starting point is 00:18:02 used in Ferris Bueller's Day Off, another classic teen comedy. And the movie originally featured scenes featuring Stifler's dad who was to be played by Chris Penn. these were removed after negative reactions and test screenings. But the footage can be found in the documentary, American Pie revealed 2004. Dang, yeah.
Starting point is 00:18:25 I don't know who Chris Penn is. Chris Penn is Sean Penn's brother. Rest in Peace. He's no longer with us. Yeah. What happened? I'm not sure, actually. I'm not sure what the cause was.
Starting point is 00:18:37 It's been a minute. I should brush back up on it. But it was like, it was one of those things where it was like, oh, damn, certainly too soon and very sudden. And, I mean, Chris Penn, you'd recognize his face probably because he's been a that guy in lots of stuff. And apparently, Joseph D. Reitman, the male EMT and Shannon Elizabeth were married in real life when this was happening. No way. Yeah. So apparently also, nobody had a sequel clause in their contracts.
Starting point is 00:19:00 That's fun. So everybody, let's see, Shannon Elizabeth, Sean William, Scott, Allison Hanigan, and Chris Owen, the Shermanator. They all had to, I guess, be negotiated back into the fold. Here's one. One major subplot that was filmed and subsequently cut out of the film
Starting point is 00:19:16 was Oz and Heather cheating on each other when an early cut of the film featuring the subplots was shown to test audiences the women were very upset that the two had cheated
Starting point is 00:19:25 on each other and it pretty much ruined the movie for them another filmed but cut subplot was scenes featuring the inclusion of the character
Starting point is 00:19:32 of Stifler's dad played by the late Chris Penn as we read to show how his behavior had been influenced by his father ultimately test audience
Starting point is 00:19:40 didn't care why Stifler was the way he was and just wanted him to be funny. And I think that was probably, you know, as much as test screenings are not always, you know, a bastion for great feedback. They can be. And I feel like Stiffler, we don't need to know. We can assume. It just is. I think that's a fair, that's a fair, you know, note to give.
Starting point is 00:20:02 Nadia's first scene was actually shot in downtown LA, not New York. The World Trade Center towers were composited into the skyline, yellow cabs, and hot dog vendors were added for effect because that's what New York is all about all right man well are you uh how do you feel and you got anything else you want to leave the people with
Starting point is 00:20:20 I'm feeling good feeling well feeling swell John how you feeling I'm feeling I'm hungry I should we should go get some pie let's get some pie we're gonna go get some pie guys they did have a pie she dropped it in that first scene they come into the dorm to tribute the first movie
Starting point is 00:20:37 she dropped the pie they dropped the beer and we're dropping out of here. Thank you so much for watching. We love you guys. We'll catch you in the next one. Deuses. Chase Gardner. Buddy.
Starting point is 00:20:53 Buddy. What don't I know about you? Buddy. Bub. Have you ever tried on a woman's dress in front of hair and thought, man, I wish I could just wear this in public all the time. Yeah, man, get your Angora life. I'm trying to tell you, Jan, Chase.
Starting point is 00:21:10 It's totally okay. There are no rules, Chase. Just go ahead and do it. We live in a country now where we should just be accepting of that. All garments are just fabric. That's all it is. Paint your nails, Chase. We as a society, have assigned what is okay for women to wear and men to wear.
Starting point is 00:21:26 That is your individual choice, man. Dude, wear jeans shorts and eyeliner. Best of both worlds. I am, man. You walk down the street, certain parts of the world, you get your ass kicked. Did it to defend yourself. And if you could kick their ass back, while dressed however you're dressed
Starting point is 00:21:42 and that only makes you that much more badass. That's why you got to go to like a homophobic elementary school. That way you have like the advantage over height strength. Intellectual prowess. You know you have a good chance of winning that fist fight. You could probably take on a few people at once.
Starting point is 00:22:04 Yeah, that's the idea. You beat that into that. You beat it out of them. Beat tolerance into them. Taunts than them, you'd be phobia out of that. That's how you do it, Chase. Iron it down, stamp it out. Do it. Now, I don't really know what you like to do in your own time, but I'm going to assume that it's something along these lines.
Starting point is 00:22:21 Mm-hmm. Because let's face it, with a name like Chase Gardner, that just screams. Attack of the youth who deserve it. Exactly, yeah, absolutely. 100%. I mean, you know, these kids got to learn a thing or two these days, all right, kids are entitled, and they're lazy.
Starting point is 00:22:39 And all I want to do is be on their screens and be handed everything in life. And you're here to show them how to rise to the occasion and be, you know, a true American, all right? True grindset, mindset person. I think, uh, I think these shadows are just getting better and better every month for you. Every month is the best. And I think that you're going to be very, I'm all about connecting with the audience. You're going to shit when you hear this. believe i've we have spoken to your heart yeah so you're welcome you're welcome chase
