Directed by James Wan (The Conjuring, Furious 7), the film stars Jason Momoa (Game of Thrones, See) as Arthur Curry, the half-human, half-Atlantean heir to the throne of Atlantis. As Arthur wrestles with his destiny and dual identity, he must confront his power-hungry half-brother Orm, played by Patrick Wilson (Watchmen, Insidious), who seeks to unite the underwater kingdoms to wage war on the surface world. With the help of the fierce warrior princess Mera (Amber Heard, Zombieland, The Rum Diary) and royal advisor Vulko (Willem Dafoe, Spider-Man, The Lighthouse), Arthur embarks on a globe-trotting quest to retrieve the legendary Trident of Atlan and claim his rightful place as king. Along the way, he faces off against Black Manta (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Watchmen, Candyman), a vengeful mercenary with cutting-edge Atlantean tech. The film also features Nicole Kidman (Moulin Rouge!, Big Little Lies) as Arthur’s mother Queen Atlanna, Dolph Lundgren (Rocky IV, The Expendables) as King Nereus, Temuera Morrison (The Mandalorian, Once Were Warriors) as Arthur’s father Tom Curry, Randall Park (Fresh Off the Boat, WandaVision) as Dr. Stephen Shin, Ludi Lin (Power Rangers, Marco Polo) as Captain Murk, and the voice of Dame Julie Andrews (The Sound of Music, Mary Poppins) as the monstrous sea guardian Karathen. Packed with stunning visuals, underwater battles, the epic Ring of Fire duel, and the climactic final war between kingdoms, Aquaman became a billion-dollar success and one of the DCEU’s most visually ambitious entries. Thank you to Huell for sponsoring this video more on them in just a bit.
We're going to get right into this.
So Aquaman in three, two and one.
Just say, all right, well, guys, we just watched the first Aquaman film.
Make sure you do all the YouTube stuff.
Don't forget to subscribe, share the video, hit the like button.
Most importantly, don't forget to subscribe share the video hit the like button most importantly don't forget to
That way you're notified whenever we drop videos such as these special links to find folks over at Pryper for editing down these highlights
It is a task. We appreciate all their hard work. They are the best and
Make sure you give us if you are listening on Apple or Spotify five-star ratings
And we're gonna just get right into
the royal rejects, the patreon questions. So let's do this. Oh, only looks like we got a couple here,
but Pavel Ketch Marek. Thank you so much for making so easy for us. Appreciate you. With Aquaman,
I have to say I loved it because I totally bought into it,
including the cheese factor of it all. But then I talked to my friend who said he also liked it,
but he said that a few moments were going too far with the cringe, i.e. the octopus playing drums.
So that got me thinking, did you guys buy into the world of Aquaman entirely, or did you also think that a few moments
went a bit far? Which ones? Love you guys, you're royal and loyal. Polish reject. We appreciate you, Pavel, so
much. Why don't you go first since this was your first time seeing it?
I actually liked the octopus playing drums, I guess. Initially, me going into this movie,
I thought it was all gonna be cheesy.
Like that, that I was like, Aquaman,
like how was it really gonna be?
And you guys already know my feelings on Amber Heard
when I watched her in the Justice League.
I didn't realize she'd be throughout this whole movie,
but she grew on me after the fact.
But some of her lines, I'd say those were
my cringe moments for me.
There's just some times when I just do not feel
like she is a grounded enough actress,
but then there were times later in the movie
where I was like, oh, I really believe her now,
so I don't know.
But I did buy into the world, I think entirely,
because the movie is a long two and a half hours.
And honestly, I don't think that I was like,
oh God, I'm so bored.
Which is great, which means, you know,
the pacing of it is a decent speed.
I don't think any moments like went too far.
I don't think I felt that way.
I felt like, oh yeah, this makes sense
because we're underwater and this is how we roll.
So I was down with it.
It's fascinating.
This is the third time I've seen this film in theaters
and then one time after that,
I really was on the minority of not liking this movie.
I didn't hate it, I just didn't care for it.
I thought it was beyond cheesy and goofy at times,
but this time I actually really liked it a lot.
I think, and I know you can probably say,
well, the second time you knew what to expect.
I don't know why my opinion
has so far strayed from my first two
But it didn't bother me at all this time and
I did I didn't mind the octopus playing drums for instance
And I really like a lot of the themes in the film
You know especially with like unity and bridging that gap between the two worlds. I also like Arthur as well in
regards to how he
didn't even want the throne and like that's what you know how he embraced his responsibility of
becoming the king and that's why he was like such a good king is because he didn't want that
responsibility or rather he didn't want to be the king and that's what bridged the two worlds
together whereas Orm you know bridged tried to bridge that gap through fear and dominance. But also there was a fascinating
motivation again, you know, through environmentalism. And I thought that was an interesting commentary
as well because there were parts that I was like, yeah, I'm kind of like, I do agree with
certain parts of this. Although again, doesn't justify killing off millions of people who
are innocent and have nothing to do with you know that in general so
There was a lot of stuff in here that I really really loved and I did not actually
The first two times I I did feel the pacing a little bit, but this time I didn't at all and
Just getting back to a little bit of the cheese thing, too
I did mention it while we were reacting to it and it didn't bother me
Maybe because I grew up such a die-hard Mighty Morphin Power Rangers fan
But when he was fighting against black Manta
Who is so cool and awesome and I love his his motivation of vengeance and revenge
Towards Aquaman with what happens to his father even though they put themselves in that position
It did feel very Power Rangers esque just like the voice and the costume, but it also looked very badass at the same time
So I like how they were able to balance the two out between the cheesiness and badassery. So yeah
Did it probably go a little bit too far in a little bit cheesy? You can make the argument, but this time I personally didn't bother me at all
Alright I personally didn't bother me at all. So, yeah. All right. Next one's from Kev B.
Aquaman touches on big themes like family, responsibility,
and finding your place in the world.
What parts of the story or characters stuck with you?
Were you more drawn to the deeper messages
or did you mostly enjoy the action and adventure?
Both.
I really enjoyed the action and the adventure.
The cinematography was freaking amazing. The
guy who did Forrest Gump, I forgot his name in this film, the transitions were absolutely
breathtaking. The stuff underwater, how they were able to blend ancient and futuristic
styles and blend them together. In regards to the themes, you know, unity, I think also
with Nicole Kidman, her themes really stuck with me a great deal
throughout the film of sacrifice and redemption.
I thought that was really like what a mother will do
for her children.
And I thought that was like a lot more
the deeper layers of the film.
So I would say that stuck with me
and thought that made more of an emotional resonance side
towards that I felt for the film.
So what about you?
I thought it was really interesting that like nobody wanted his brother to be king. They were
like like no one was interested in that and the part of the story that really got me is at the end
when he he calls him and he's like hey when all this is done, we should talk, which I enjoyed. And he could have killed him.
So I think that's like the strongest like family thing because they were estranged,
could have killed him, hated each other.
And then we bring it all back together to where it's like, it's kind of a nice happy
ending, obviously, until we see the post credit scene.
But I think I really liked that specifically. Him and Amber Heard, I did sort of like
that they were annoyed by each other
and eventually grew to love each other
because they have to go through this big adventure
and together and figure this thing out.
And like I said, as I went through the movie
more and more, like she didn't bug me as much,
her acting got better,
which is solid.
And you also asked, were you drawn more
to the deeper messages or mostly enjoy the action adventure?
I think the action adventure for me, it was very cool.
We got a lot of 360 shots,
especially when we're doing the choreography
with the fighting and a lot of cool tracking shots that you can't do if you're working in live action, right?
It has to be a mixture of CGI, um, or all CGI to do the tracking shots that they did
going from a roof to another roof to like underwater and we're still rolling. Um, that
kind of stuff is like what an animated film could do,
but we're doing it with live action.
So that CGI was actually done really well.
I didn't really see any huge issues with it,
so it kept me in the story, which is great.
Totally agree with you.
I think that one, there were a few tracking shots
that were phenomenal.
I've already mentioned how great the transitions were.
We kept talking about it during the reaction because they were so breathtaking.
But that one transition where we were, excuse me, not transition, tracking shot when we were
at Italy when they were going from rooftop to rooftop, I thought that was absolute. I mean,
they stayed on that one for a long time. So that was incredible. And yeah, is there any particular
action scene that really stood out to you? I'd say the one in it. I mean,
obviously the ones under C at the end was obviously very epic.
I like the the drench or the trench one. I just thought that
was I like how they infused action and horror. I think that
I gravitated towards that one but the one on the Italy
because it was it really felt like the action. Right. The
CGI one still felt really good too, but I think that one was my favorite.
Anyone in particular for you that stood out?
I mean the one, the end one with his brother was cool.
I did like finally when we did get to see Amber Heard fight where she kind of does her
smile and she's like she kicks her butt.
That was cool.
And I like that we had a theme that when one of them gets to where they're like, I'm going
to kick their butts and there's going to be multiple that we go into those that 360 shot
and cut in between it, which I thought was a lot of fun.
And Nicole Kidman, she had a sick ass fight at the very beginning as well.
She did.
And I do agree with what you were saying too.
I really like the chemistry between Jason Momoa and Amber Heard.
And I like how they were bickering at each other like an old married couple.
And they really did take their time with building up that relationship that it didn't feel rushed.
And it actually did feel organic when they finally did come to an understanding in the relationship.
And they did fall for each other.
And I did buy that.
And I was happy to see them together in the film, like the characters wise.
I actually embraced that relationship,
and that was fun to watch, actually.
That was one of my favorite portions of the film,
was their love for each other
and them pickering with each other.
I thought it was good banter, it was pretty good
for the most part, it was pretty good dialogue.
So yeah. Yeah, for sure.
Any, before I get to some of the other stuff, trivia...
No, you can just get to the trivia.
Now we have to...
We're still pretty good on time actually.
So, any final thoughts?
Reject nation, I have officially lost over 45 pounds this year.
I am still working on a couple of extra goals for body composition development.
But I'm proud to say I've done it with no injections, no crash diets.
Just pure discipline, consistent training, and yeah, fuel with hue.
Yeah, when I started back in January, I was like 218 pounds,
and now I'm averaging between like 171 and 173.
And one of the things that's helped me genuinely stay on track
with having such a busy schedule, especially now that we have this office away from my home,
I got a fridge right over there
that is packed with so much of this.
Huell's Black Edition Ready to Drink.
This thing's got 35 grams of protein,
27 essential vitamins and minerals,
slow release carbs,
and it's actually a complete meal in one bottle.
So I'm not just grabbing a snack,
I'm really getting some actual fuel in my cells.
Oh man, chocolate and vanilla,
they're my two favorites. They're the main staples,
and they are my two favorite ones.
No mess, no prep, just grab, drink, and go.
Legitimately good taste, no chalky aftertaste.
I'm a strict macro plan, and I can fit it into my macro plan.
Low sugar, high protein,
super efficient, I'm all about efficiency.
And flavor selection is pretty good.
My wife actually really likes the iced coffee and the strawberry banana and
if you can't decide between all the wonderful flavors they got a variety
box and if you're anything like me variety is a treasure. Best part each
bottle is under five bucks which is great when you're replacing a whole meal
so not just keeps your body on track but your wallet on track too. So if you're trying to
lose weight get a funny- looking mustache, build muscle,
or just eat smarter and try to keep your lifestyle
a little bit more efficient.

I don't know why I haven't been saying that this whole time.
And all that efficiency, that's the most efficient way.
Anyway, feel smart, feel good.
Thanks to Huell for sponsoring this video.
I would say that I liked it.
I don't think it needed to be two and a half hours.
Think it could have been two and been a lot better.
I I think that all of the actors, especially with the casting,
like once I saw who his brother was,
they're all really, really great actors.
The Amber Heard is just the one that's a little out of place.
But again, we know the background of that,
of how she got the job and yada yada.
But I think overall, I was really expecting to not like it
and I did.
I thought that the love story between him and her,
it was cute at the end and he's like, we're gonna have fun.
I like that, you know, the mom finally,
Nicole finally goes to see, you know,
her long lost love, gets the sun all set up.
And I thought it was very cool visuals
of like that they ride the seahorses and the sharks
and there's a lot of cool sea creatures in this
that looked very awesome.
And the way that they designed it
is really pleasing to the eye
because we're working with a lot of blues and purples
and they're bright.
It's that iridescent type of color that we get,
which makes it really just pretty.
You're like, cool, I wanna swim through this world,
which I find very fun.
So when we go down to the depths to where it gets very dark and a bit spooky, especially when that weird monster starts
What was it with all those things that came out made it extra spooky and I really liked that
The carithion or whatever. Yeah, what it was called. So they did a good job
I think with all of the creatures and obviously I like, you know all of the actors in it
so I think they did a solid job well said as I mentioned I
Like this movie a lot more now the third time I've seen it
I'm not I know a lot of people say that I don't really criticize homes
I don't like shitting on films honestly because I know people work extremely hard on them
But I will be honest when I say I'm not a fan.
Maybe this movie was not for me.
But I was honest when I said that the first two times I saw this I really did not care for it.
I didn't feel it was for me. And I really enjoyed this a lot more. And I do slightly disagree with Tara.
I didn't feel the runtime this particular time. The first two times, 100%. I felt the film dragged the times,
and it could have been about 15, 20 minutes shorter,
especially towards the ending.
The action scene definitely picked up the pacing for me
in the first two times,
but I did not for one second feel the pacing
this third time around.
In regards to the cinematography,
absolutely breathtaking transitions to tracking shots.
Phenomenal job by the cinematographer and James Wan.
They knew what they wanted to do on all their shots.
The music by Rupert Greggson Williams, another fantastic job from Wonder Woman to this.
He really did a great job of bombastic music to the synth stuff, really elevated the emotional beats to the action adventure stuff.
Fantastic job.
I really enjoyed Jason Momoa's performance. He's got such charm, charisma, and energy
to him and you could tell he was having a lot of fun in the role. I really enjoyed
the chemistry between him and Amber Heard and I liked the way their
characters developed throughout the film. I thought that was really
well done and I also like how he embraced, you know, becoming the king as
well and, you know, bridging the two gaps of, you know, the sea and the land. I I thought that was really well done. And I also like how he embraced becoming the king as well
and bridging the two gaps of the sea and the land.
I thought that was well done as well.
And I also like that this film is not very subtle.
It is cheeky and goofy, and James Wan understands that
and kind of wears its own sleeve with that.
Cause the comics, I haven't read a ton of them,
but I do know that they're very weird.
And the film kind of just
embraces that and I appreciate that. I appreciated that. You know, I wasn't trying to be subtle. So I think I, you know, watching it this time around I understood that a lot more. So
Alrighty, Tara, let's do this really quickly. Rotten tomatoes. Go ahead. Critics?
I'll go critics
67 and audience. Holy crap, Tara.
Holy crap.
Is it 67?
Oh, it's 66.
You were like right there.
I thought you were about to hit it.
Very, very close.
I'll go audience.
I'm going to go 79.
Geez, you were still really close.
72.
You were right on it with this one, Tara.
I was close.
I accidentally spilled the beans.
It didn't ruin the movie, obviously,
but I told Tara how much money the film made
in the box office.
Yeah.
So it was.
You said over a billion dollars.
It was $1, a billion dollars. It was 1 billion 152 million
movie cost them like
425 million dollars funny funny you should ask that it was a budget of a hundred and sixty million or oh it says
160 million okay, I mean there was a lot of CGI. Yeah, okay, that's uh
They made a lot of profit on this movie
Yeah, they really did a lot of profit on this job Jason
I mean, that's crazy. Like you look at justice. I don't remember what Justice League made was like six or seven hundred again
Let me know in the comments if I'm the same but this man from Jason
Like people wanted to see my MOA, right? They were like, let's go
Whatever the case was this made a lot of profit. Yeah.
Good for them.
Really quick, just do a couple.
Jason Momoa specifically requested Tamora Morrison.
I said, Tamu Morrison.
I messed up his name, as I usually do.
I own it.
One of Momoa's acting idols for the role of Arthur,
Arthur's father, Tom Curry.
Cool.
Glad he got his choice for his father.
That's cool.
Numerous underwater waterfalls are seen in this movie.
This is an actual phenomenon.
The ocean is made up of two different layers of water.
Warm, light, warm, light water and cold.
Dense water, the difference in densities means
the layers are separate and causes the heavier cold water to fall
forming a waterfall cool
Arthur Curry and his father Tom Curry are portrayed as being of Polynesian
Nationality with Momoa being Hawaiian and Morrison being Maori
Momoa has said that he was proud of making Aquaman a Polynesian as Polynesians have strong aquatic
heritage.
Yeah, I like that.
During the duel between Arthur and Orm, an octopus plays a drum solo.
According to writer and director James Wan, this octopus is Topo, Aquaman's octopus sidekick
from the 1950s and 1960s, who was able to play musical instruments.
Wan was initially unsure about putting Topo in in the film but was inspired to do so after watching the film Mad Max
Fury Road saying if that film could have a guy playing a flaming guitar
I'm going to have an octopus drummer in mine. Okay. All right fair enough fair enough
Nicole Kidman immediately accepted the role of Atlanta when writer and director James
Wan said that she could wear mother of pearl and be a mermaid warrior.
Love that.
In the 2019 Aquaman comics Arthur got a tattoo from the water god that resembles Jason Momoa's
own markings.
Oh.
Sweet.
We'll just do one more.
Cool.
James Wan wanted Atlanteans to wear capes,
but costume designer Kim Barrett pointed out
that capes drag underwater.
They settled on capes being worn only by members
of Atlantean royalty.
Yes. Love that.
Good choice on the no cape.
Smart. All right.
With them.
Cool. Well, guys, that is going to do it for this
one. I believe our next DCEU film is Shazam. Does that sound right? I think that's right.
Okay. So make sure you join us for that one. If you stuck with us this long, we appreciate
you as always and take care. Hold your breath underwater if you do
Ricardo Martinez yeah Ricardo oh if there's anyone I would love to go swimming underwater with it would be you not because we can both breathe
underwater I've just never drowned someone. Oh sure definitely you would be a perfect person
To try that out. I think you're someone who I could have totally convinced to be like hey
You want to play Aquaman?
I want to do play that my little game called Aquaman you want called how long can we go underwater for?
I'm trying to talk to my pet sea monkeys and dunk your head in this container
I just think it might be a fun little weird prospect, you know
They're always talking about how like fans and followers kill the people they follow. What if he was in reverse?
And I think
Dude, we should start killing fans and you would be the number one fan would make you the number one fan
It absolutely would, John.
And then you could die happy.
That's heroism for you.
It's heroism.
That's how you serve us.
So thanks for serving us.
And I hope we give you a good goodbye.
Definitely.
We'll make you, we'll make a sushi out of you.
