Aaron Alexander & John Humphrey take on the outrageous 2002 spoof comedy Austin Powers in Goldmember, the third film in the beloved spy parody franchise directed by Jay Roach (Meet the Parents, The Campaign). Mike Myers (Wayne’s World, Shrek) once again delivers multiple hilarious performances as Austin Powers, Dr. Evil, Fat Bastard, and the eccentric villain Goldmember. This time, Austin teams up with Foxxy Cleopatra, played by Beyoncé (Dreamgirls, The Lion King), to stop Dr. Evil and Goldmember from using a time machine to take over the world. The ensemble cast includes Michael York (Logan’s Run) as Basil Exposition, Robert Wagner (Hart to Hart) as Number Two, Seth Green (Family Guy, Robot Chicken) as Scott Evil, and Verne Troyer as Mini-Me. The film also features memorable cameos from Tom Cruise, Gwyneth Paltrow, Danny DeVito, Steven Spielberg, Britney Spears, and Kevin Spacey in the iconic opening sequence. Packed with over-the-top humor, outrageous disguises, the hilarious "Hard Knock Life" rap with Dr. Evil and Mini-Me, and plenty of pop-culture references, Goldmember cemented itself as one of the most quotable and absurd entries in the Austin Powers series. Whether it’s Austin’s awkward reunion with his father Nigel Powers (Michael Caine, The Dark Knight, The Cider House Rules), Beyoncé’s stylish spy antics, or Goldmember’s bizarre obsession with gold, the movie remains a nostalgic comedy trip and a defining parody of early 2000s pop culture. More on them in just a bit.
Now further ado, I don't know where in time we're going to be, but I know it's going to be groovy and randy and roll the bump.
Oh, my friends.
Yes.

Austin Powers 4 Legacy
sequel that I'm sure
will definitely get made.
Also, if you
are feeling grateful
in this life, then show a little
bit of that gratitude to the folks over a prepper
or chopping these highlights
down original fat bastard makeup
created by Stan Winston Studio.
Beautiful. Movie magic and
yeah, Prepper, they help us get the
movie reaction magic to you guys.
So we very much appreciate them.
Also, if you happen to be listening to this assessment in audio forum, leave us a little rating if you could.
It was five stars.
Yeah, a podcast platform of your choice.
Arun!
We're going to hop into some questions in a second, but let's get your initial immediate impressions.
This one was interesting.
It definitely did make me laugh, though I did have some.
things that were a little questionable.
What?
What?
I know.
Like what?
How possibly could you?
Not everything worked for me in this one, but I can't say that I didn't have a good time.
Yeah, this one was a trip.
You know, it's interesting watching the third movie in a franchise after the first two were cultural juggernauts, because that's when you get all the celebrities in there.
And it's just like a cameo fest.
but yeah there are definitely some
sorry bits that were working for me
John just like turn up the volume I apologize
they're singing what's it all about Austin
which I believe there's a song from the movie Arthur
that goes what's it all about Arthur
so this is like a parody song happening here
at the very end credits for just the like five people
who are here to catch this reference
oh wow anyway forgive
yeah I would say that
i still i think my favorite still the first one but this one definitely had some moments that made me laugh
pretty hard uh the the bit with we're fat bastard bastard like was hanging from the wire
and then the first uh mole mole because i remember growing up hearing that so just now having
context for for that reference but it was funny for me personally and then um yeah the twist was
interesting um unexpected for sure oh
them being brothers.
Yeah, it was cool. I was like, okay, it gives a nice little bow to the rivalry between
those two characters. And yeah, I don't know. I thought Goldmember didn't necessarily work for me,
but, you know, the classic characters that we're accustomed to with the other two were still strong.
And I think this is the most Dr. Evil and Austin Powers have interacted in this entire trilogy.
but yeah overall I can't say that I didn't have a good time I don't think that I don't know if it was like a contractual thing but this was definitely the lust the least horny with the lead that Austin Powers has been and these three I wonder yeah like what was put in place for that to be the case because yeah he is very professional he is a very professional relationship with fucking Cleopatra
Yeah, he's not hitting on her too much
And they got that one very, like, pristine, very, like, delicate kiss at the end.
Gentle, yeah.
Yeah, it's, like, really planted on the lips and make sure we're not doing anything too crazy with this kiss.
Jay-Z is just all on set, just on the side.
Right off the, with the script in his hands.
You try nothing.
Script supervisor, Hova.
Yeah, but, yeah, that's what I'm feeling right now is coming straight off of it.
How are you feeling?
I had a really good time.
I had a lot of fun.
In some ways, this might be blasphemy.
In some ways, this one kind of flew by the smoothest for me.
This one definitely, I feel like had the fastest pace for sure.
I think it was doing a lot of things.
Like, I don't know.
I think this one for me is a mixed bag because I feel like I had some of my hardest laughs.
And there are other some things that made me cringe.
So it's just kind of an anomaly of an experience in that way.
There's definitely some cringe for sure.
It's weird.
I think this movie had, of the three of them,
something that struck me that is
striking me in this moment and I could be wrong
I'm excited to go back and rewatch these again
eventually. This one felt
like it had the least amount of
like, we're going to pause and we're going to do
one joke for a very long time.
This is true. This one had the
tightest pacing or at least
the tightest like editing in that
capacity.
So, yeah, this is
a very, very interesting one
in terms of
like, yeah, this is definitely part
three and they're definitely going bigger
and they're doing more stuff and they're bringing
in more characters and I
I liked it's weird
Goldmember himself is like
the weak link of the movie for me
because you know it's the title character
it's a new villain ostensibly
but you know it's the little Austin Powers versus
Dr. Evil at the end of the day
so yeah Goldmember
didn't leave that much of an impression
really beyond the look
and the fact that he is gross
and I don't know
something about his like holland thing uh is the choice is a choice i could tell the choice was being
made i was like i don't quite i don't quite fully click with what the choice is it's weird it's
quirky it's it's humorous to a degree um also the skin thing very gross very very gross um but yeah
i mean like the combination of like okay foxy leopatra we got a bit of a 70s vibe the whole like flip
with mini me the stuff with his dad like this this one actually in a lot of ways might be the one
I would soonest like put on again just for like the barrage of jokes and such yeah I think
it exchanges drawn out jokes for volume of jokes yeah and in a way that I appreciate that
pacing a little bit better because it just feels like there's more it's not like more
substantial in like a deep sense but it feels a little bit more substantial in the
sort of like, in the previous ones, once you get the joke and if you're not fully like,
you know, gut busted by the joke, then you're going to just kind of be there going like,
oh, yeah, the joke is continuing.
And there wasn't a ton of that here.
Even the bits that were designed to be like, you know, repeat or, you know, sort of to stop
and, you know, focus in on some weird happenstance, even those were tight.
The thing where he's like peeing by the fountain could have gone on a lot longer, you know,
I thought that they kept those things tighter than the other two have.
Also, this one didn't have any naked Austin bits.
No naked Austin bit, but we did get the subtitles bit, which I thought was very funny.
That was fun.
That was clever and different for this franchise.
So I'm sure we're going to touch on some stuff.
You guys want to know about those.
I'm going to stop.
And we're going to get into your guys questions because, you know, there will be more reviewing to come with those.
So kicking us off today.
R on the H.
would you be open
to reacting to any other movies with
Beyonce
Cadillac Records
DreamWorks obsessed
no
I'm just saying it right here
no Beyonce
I am only close-minded
and why there are two things in this world
I hate people who are intolerant
of other people's cultures
and movies that feature
Beyonce
and the Dutch
and the Dutch specifically
no but I would be down
Yeah, I've never seen Cadillac Records
I think I've seen obsessed
Like on TV in passing
But I don't really know much about it
But I would love to
And I don't think Dream works as a movie
Maybe you're referring to Dream Girls
Oh yeah, that's probably it
Yeah
Because yeah
I'm like how many movies is Beyonce made
She's in The Lion King
We did watch The Lion King too
For this channel
The Mufusso movie
You can't check IMDB for Beyonce
Because it's gonna throw you
a whole heck ton of music videos.
Yes.
Her actual film
biography is relatively
short.
Yeah.
Yeah, I mean, I would definitely
be open.
She's in a movie called Epic.
I don't know what that is.
Nope.
Wow, wow,
Wobsey.
She was a voice on
Wow, Wow, Wobsy Idol.
Shine. Obsessed 2009.
Okay.
What is obsessed?
It's a movie with
Idrisel and her.
Oh, wow.
An Ali Larder.
Oh, is this
like this like white she devil comes to tempt Idriselba away and Beyonce has to like
beat her ass yep that's exactly what it is uh yeah i mean i would be i would certainly be down
i feel like this was oh is she and pink panther also this seems like a good breakout yeah i would
too fighting temptations yo i remember that was a kid i don't remember anything about it i would love
to watch that movie wow yeah i would too yeah i mean i for me anyway this seemed like you know
oh, her big kind of break
into acting in a focal
kind of way, and it seems like
by her filmography, minus a couple small
roles, that is the case. And yeah, I mean,
she has, like, just the right amount
of potential acting chops for
this role. It's not like an
amazing performance, so
to speak. It doesn't require it to be.
But I thought she had a lot of, you know,
fun on camera,
certainly. She's very appealing to watch.
Foxy, Cleopatra.
Definitely a fun addition to this
franchise. So based off of that, I'd watch some more
Beyonce joints. Yeah.
Let's see.
Brandon Camacho.
Do you think Gold Member
is the funniest Austin Power movie?
Or do you think Powers movie?
Or did you think another one was
funnier? And what did you think of the
cameos?
This is interesting.
Because I feel like
the first one is probably
the strongest of the
movies, but I feel like this one has the
funniest moments for me because i think this one probably made me laugh the hardest but also
made me cringe the artist so it's it's weird so in some ways yes and other ways no and what did
you think of the cameos they're great super unexpected had cameos were hilarious yeah and yeah i think
in some ways i would say that this is the funniest one to me or this is this might be my favorite
personally because yeah i would agree like the previous ones have aspects that are probably
better for like
filmmaking we're recreating
these vibes of the 60s or the night
well they were in the 90s for the first
one for reels but you know what I mean
I mean yeah I thought the cameo
was really funny like Tom Cruise
hilarious because we're calling the
Mission Impossible thing yeah it's even him
and it's perfect as good filmmaking you know like it's great
because it even all these years
removed you're able to sit here and if you see
Mission Impossible too you're like this really feels like
mission impossible too and
Yeah, having Tom Cruise, Gwyneth Paltrow, Steven Spielberg, doing the dance number.
You know, I love a dance number, and these movies have really fun, you know, takes on that.
Yeah, John Travolta at the end, and the various other people who cameo across the movie, the, you know, random appearances and such.
Yeah, I thought they were great.
I really enjoyed, I thought it had just the right amount of meta for that wraparound, like, yeah.
in some ways this feels like the rare three-quel that's like kind of hitting right at the exact time because this does have like this sort of pop culture review kind of quality with the cameos and things like that so yeah in a lot of ways I would say this one is the funniest for me I think I think it's because this one has the most attempts at this stuff this one throws the most at the wall and since it's not spending enormous amounts of even the mole gag is not as long as it would have been played
in the previous two.
So I feel like, yeah, the density of jokes, you know, kind of like helped the ratio out.
Because even if not every joke was hitting, I just felt like the pacing of the humor was a little
snappier.
And if I wasn't enthralled with one joke, we would be on to the next one pretty quick.
And there would be multiple things, you know, in a scene that were funny or of note versus,
like, okay, I get it.
I get the bit, you know.
Just waiting for it to, like, kind of conclude, yeah.
Yeah, the previous two have, like, and I really enjoyed those two, but they have more of that quality of, like, if you're not with a bit and you get the bit, you're going to be waiting until the bit is concluded, whereas this one felt like it had more, you know, facets.
For sure.
For sure.
For sure.
Yeah.
Let's see.
Michael Medine Katuria.
Thank you so much for chiming in.
Hey, guys, what is the funniest moment for you in this film?
My personal fave was Nathan Lane's scene, his lip-sync is Foxy Cleo.
patcher makes me laugh every time that was really funny yeah i do agree with that that was hilarious
and a great yeah like great cameo for a recognizable actor but also like constant
professional really threw himself into that moment um yeah i'm trying to think of uh if any other
bit got me quite as well i think uh just i can get a part of because like personal
life nostalgia with like my own family because my i know my my dad really like he's growing up
and i'll say i was too young to like really watch them so i saw like bits and clips here but um the
one who was like a mole yeah my dad grew doing that so that that one was particularly funny to me also
gold members wire breaking also had me dying because i just not expect that to happen fab master
my bad yeah the fab bastard and actually i had more i get the fab bastard bastard bastard the joke is that he's off-putting i
actually had a fonder experience with him here yeah it was way more gross last time way more yeah
like overtly off-putting in the previous one whereas here you're like you'd still gross still off-putting
but like just enough that it's still kind of charming and i think that helps because you have michael mike
meyers in four roles again gold member a lot of costume a lot of mannerism a lot of choices there but i
felt like at least while I wasn't as enthralled with that specific character you had a strong
showing from obviously Austin and evil but also fat bastard like left a good impression yeah but yeah
I mean having the Michael Cain show up at all I love the the bit just watching the young actors do
their roles that that was very funny the subtitles bit I thought was very funny um and yeah I'm
trying to think and I know there's other you know bits and things that I'm forgetting and
the moment um the the the the boob bit or they the satellites the satellites yeah it was less
drawn out than the first one another example yeah of you know them tightening that joke up yeah yeah
yeah oh god there's there's one other job i like the i like uh the music video with uh with them in
prison that was fun yeah two dr evil raps we have had in this franchise now and both of them
surprisingly funny despite the fact that it's like
like a requirement of this era of comedy
that we have to do that.
Golly, it'll come
back to me. There was like one other gagger
routine that I, that like stuck in
my mind and now I can't access.
Oh, I like the
fuck me, fuck you.
That was funny. Yeah, and his
Paul change that he wasn't there.
Yeah.
Yeah, that was a fun one.
ZB. K&D.
Thank you for chiming in.
This one always feels.
feels like the most put together movie
out of the three. Yeah, see, you guys are
helping me find the words to it. I think the humor
stayed the same, but was still executed in a way
that managed to keep up with the times.
Do you think they could do another sequel in
2025 with that same humor? I think
yeah, I think you could do Austin Powers
now. For sure. And this one
was the least sort of
like flirting with
we didn't have one Will Ferrell and Brown
face this time. No, now they left
in the 90s. No, they left that in the 90s.
Yeah, I think
you could do Austin Powers now and I think it's been long enough that there's enough
shit in culture for him to react to the changing times of and yeah I mean I guess it would come
down to just coming up with a new fourth fifth character for Mike Myers to play and some more
you know having Michael Cain show up as his dad I thought was an inspired choice yeah and so like
it's stuff like that it's like you would need I think the trickiest part would be finding
things like that to do i feel like if they were to do it it'd be like another like soft
reboot or they'd freeze him again in the early 2000s and unfreeze him in the 2020s yeah or
have him with a kid or something i don't know yeah so something like that'll be they'll all be fun
you know have them going against scott evil this time instead of yeah and i think yeah you could
definitely there's nothing about the sensibility it's it's randy and and stuff like that but you know
like it's not like you can't do that now and i feel like again we've
We've been through enough with Austin Powers to know that he's not, you know, he's the right kind of perv.
He's the right kind of good-natured purve.
And I don't think there's really much off-limits with him that you couldn't do now.
No, I mean, if they can update American Pie to be in the 2010 and still be hilarious, they can definitely be Austin Powers.
Yeah.
In fact, I'm sort of low-key hoping that we could get a fourth one sometime soon.
So heck, yeah.
Please, Mike Myers.
Get on it, Mike.
Jay Rushden
Sorry
The parody movie
At the beginning
Was great
And the ending of the film
Was perfect question
Who is your choice
For a new Austin Powers today
I think Austin Butler
Should play Austin Powers
Yep
That would be a great choice
Any Samberg
Would also be a fun choice
I think
Yeah
He would be a good comedic actor choice
Get Glenn Powell
Because he did that
Disguise his movie
I was going to pitch
Glenn Powell for everything
Glenn Powell's Austin Powers
I'm with it
Glenn Austin Powellers
I mean
Going back to the funniest moments
I mean I think the
Just because we are here for that
I think the movie
Within the movie was among the funniest moments
The funniest you know
It really sets a tone of like
Oh man anything could happen
And we're in for surprises
And for Madcap
Yeah
But yeah
I
I feel like you should cast a black Austin Powers now
I was gonna say
Kevin Hart is awesome power.
I was going to say, who can do an accent?
I think that's the real thing you need is you need somebody who can hold down the accent,
and then you're good.
Which is, it's a great accent because it, like, invites you to try it.
Bill Hader could also do it.
Bill Hader would be very funny.
I mean, part of me would like to, I don't know,
we've had the whole dumb and dumberer of it all to know that, like,
it doesn't always pan out the way you hope it will from what I've been told
when you cast, like, young actors to take up the mantle.
But, again, from what we saw here, it is possible.
You could do a prequel, Austin Powers.
Do, like, a casino royale movie
where it's, like, his first mission or some shit like that.
Do, like, yeah, do some kind of weird legacy sequel
where he's, like, at the end of his career,
it's like, do a combo casino royale, no time to die with it.
I haven't seen those movies, so I can't get on it,
but a legacy scene.
One peers in on Bond.
at the beginning and one peers and on bond at an end for this era, I guess I would say.
Okay.
So, you know, there's shit you can do in that, in that, uh, you know, general vicinity.
Thank you, Jay.

Robi Bobarp Pierrata.
In this movie, Mike Myers plays four different roles.
Do you think that an actor playing so many different roles in the same movie can be very distracting or very beneficial for the movie itself?
Also, were you surprised by Sir Michael Cain playing the role of Austin's father?
and which ones of his performances are your favorites and why keep up the good work and chow from sardinia
chow to sardinia i'm feeling i don't think it's distracting i think that it's it's fun and especially if
the actor is able to bring a sense of versatility to each of these characters because in this
movie specifically he felt like very different people for all four uh characters he was playing
which which only added to the comedy especially today if they were to
do this if they didn't do a fourth one uh we just had a movie like sinners we're having two
actors in the same movie and it's pretty seamless so i feel like the effect of this could even
be stronger today than it was in the early 2090s yeah and to make it feel more seamless so i would
be down for it and yeah i think it works in the movie's favor to you know especially you know
with them making awesome powers and dr evil brothers i'm like okay yeah that makes sense of twin
brothers okay sure and i really i actually really like that development for a third for a
Part three. I thought that was a really choice. Choice. It definitely begs the question,
yeah, will it just go to Scott, which would make a lot of sense if you did a fourth one,
and I would want it to be such. But also, then you're sort of like, what do we do with Dr. Evil?
And that would be an interesting thing. Maybe him in a grew scenario,
or he's, like, grappling with his goodness versus evil or whatever.
This also makes me curious to go back and watch some of the Eddie Murphy movies where he plays,
like a ton of roles because you know like that's a i feel like that's a tradition that exists within
film history that is very fun because we've had i've never i've never seen the nighty professor
yeah like i i saw like a snippet of it as a child but yeah like he plays a ton of characters
in that movie obviously uh tyler perry movies he's playing a lot of characters and and i i feel
like oftentimes i mean yeah it'll be noticeable or occasionally it'll get a movie where they
really surprise you with it but oftentimes it's noticeable and i feel like yeah it's a well-worn tradition
and it's just up to whether or not the actor themselves has the range to do it i mean in this movie i feel
like it works in the sense that they all four do feel like very different characters even if you
can see the parts of mike meyer's face that are the same um i like yeah i like them in order
so it's like i like austin the most i like dr evil pretty on par with austin and then you know
fat bastard and then a gold member at the bottom because gold member as we've said in this review and
actually as will pertain to the next question too so we'll get too we can talk about the the nitty or grittier
but gold member yeah like even though he was the weaker of the four characters to me he was still
distinct enough that it didn't actually like hurt the movie um and it didn't really like detract
that much i just kept occasionally being reminded like oh yeah he's gold member and uh you know i didn't
really love the jokes for
Goldmember but I thought that his
commitment to the character was good
and then yeah the Michael
Kane yeah was like such a fun
surprise and
a great again perfect choice for this
because he's a guy who's not
he looks kind of like him he's from that
era of the 60s and 70s especially
and he's played you know
secret agent types obviously the Italian
job and the mini Cooper
you know as a reference
to that yeah I thought that was like
perfect casting um in terms of favorite michael kane rolls though that's a tricky one man i feel
like there are a lot of michael kane like classic movies i gotta go back and see actually yeah i feel
like i haven't seen a ton of michael canes earlier work because yeah i mean obviously he's
great as alfred uh you know he's left a lot of impressions in some recent like christopher
nolan movies and stuff but i'm trying to think if there's like a good uh he was in sherlock
gnomes so that was uh the best i don't have to say alfred
that's one that sticks out the most to me and i know he's in how you see me but i don't really remember those movies
yeah it's the one that sticks out the most alfred yeah is like the one that comes to mind and it's like
very much of our era when a lot of you know young folks were disguised and this movie predates
the batman movies and stuff so i guess for a lot of you know people in our gen you know
the austin powers and gold member might have been there you know bigger intro to him um but
But, yeah, it's like I feel like we would have been very much becoming learning his name and becoming very aware of him as, you know, part of the Dark Night trilogy.
Also, I don't know we're not supposed to take these movies too seriously, but it was racking my brain because this is how my brain works.
So Austin Powers' dad was still alive in 2002.
Then we had to go back in time to bring his dad in the 70s to 2000.
So then there's two awesome, two Nigel Powers in 2002 now.
Oh, he was Alfie, of course.
what's it all the the song sorry uh walk me through that again so you know how he was when he was
getting knighted in 2002 his dad wasn't there yeah he's like sad because daddy wasn't there
and had to go back in time to get daddy from the 70s back to 2002 that means just two
Nigel powers in 2002 wait a minute did we go back in time and get him yeah because he was in
the 70s that's right because he comes in in the fukyu scene right yeah
Spook-you-Fook-Me scene
When we first meet him
We don't meet him
We don't meet him in that scene
They come to get him
During that scene
Austin to tell him to go back
In time
And then when we go to the club
In the 70s where we meet
Foxy Cleopatra
He's in the room
With the four girls
And that was in the 70s
I'm definitely going to have to go back
And yeah
And like double check the
The timing and whyminess
I'm reminded of
the previous film in which they instructed us not to think too heavily about it.
I was like, okay, you know what?
It's fine.
It's fine.
There's just something I was thinking about.
But, oh, children, you know, I'll throw out children of men.
I still need to see children of men.
He's really good in children of men.
And he has a very, a very lovable character in that movie.
You know, it's not a movie that's like super fun and cuddly.
But he is a very warm character.
And then the prestige, too.
I think he's really good in the prestige.
I need to watch some stage.
Yeah, so there's a lot of good Michael Cain's out there,
and clearly we need to see a handful more.
So leave us all of your deepest Michael Cain recommendations.
Finally, Brian Reed, how does Goldmember's bizarre personality and obsession with gold
to add to the comedy compared to Dr. Evil's usual antics?
I don't think it did that much.
I felt like
he in large
sort of felt like an afterthought
and just an excuse for us to go to the 70s
and get Beyonce
that's the biggest surprise to me
actually yeah is the fact that
yeah like gold member
is an action is we cut to him
he does bits he foils
off Dr. Evil a bit
but yeah there's not actually
he is just a bizarre personality
and there's not really that much
in the way of like
I guess
there are jokes but yeah i guess if you aren't really charmed by the bit with him that's pretty
much all you're getting yeah and i wonder if the title of this movie because he doesn't feel
like he should be the title character and i'm like it was just like a reference to like a james bond
thing like austin bowers in gold member like it did feel yeah it did very well yeah it's gold finger
you know it's supposed to yeah it oh my god sorry it's supposed to evoke gold finger and i really
like the, again, the imagery of him.
I liked the, you know,
everything they were going for,
except that it just
didn't feel like he amounted to very much
other than a look
and an outlandish character. This is still very
much Dr. Evil and control is still very
much his plan. It just so
happens that Gold member has
an affinity for gold and there just so happens
to be a gold asteroid, but it really
feels like, it almost
feels like there was an existing character
that they wanted to bring in and they found an
excuse to bring in rather than
them actually being like inspired
by this gold member character
because yeah
it's weird it's like he didn't
detract from the movie for me
but in this viewing I was sitting there
kind of thinking to myself that like
again aside from his
his vinky being a key like he's not
really all that effective or that
you know
plugged in of a character
you know it's odd
it's an odd I wonder how that
turned out if they were just like well we just gonna have him play another guy you know and we'll
still have dr evil and austin and fat bastard be like the main you know mike meyer's comedic offering
or what but yeah it's it's it was an odd one because i definitely expected there to be more
memorable comedy out of him and i'm yeah i remember the gross stuff or just the joke often seems
to amount to like isn't being dutch weird yeah isn't speaking like the best jokes feet gags
Those I thought were funny.
Those are fun.
I thought the feet were funny.
His look is great.
Everything is in place.
They just needed, I think, better material for him.
I think the funniest thing that gold member supplies the movie with is a Michael Cain moment where he says, you know, there are two things I hate in this world or whatever.
People who are intolerant of other people's cultures and the Dutch, you know, which is a great joke.
But yeah, it's like he didn't ruin the movie for me by any stretch.
it was the one element where I was like
this feels like it could have been richer or
more suited to
my comedic sensibility anyway.
Yeah, I
most of the time when he was on screen
with the exception of the leg
bits, I was like, okay, or like
this skin thing is gross
and I'm not
digging this, but
there's a lot of other great comedy to kind of
counterbalance it when he wasn't on screen.
Yeah, I thought we were going to get more gold-related
gags and bits. I thought
I just thought he would be more of a criminal something or other.
He just like kind of a weird.
He just feels like another one of the guys at the table.
Yeah.
You know,
he feels like another one of the eccentric, you know,
league of villains people rather than like,
oh man,
we need this guy.
He's so important.
This guy's got some kind of criminal mastermind edge that Dr.
Evil doesn't have.
Yeah.
I never felt like him and Dr.
Evil were equals or like that they were of that same caliber.
even though the beginning of it wants you to think that it's weird my favorite joke with gold member is when he becomes john travolta yeah that was my favorite too you know like but anyway not yeah not not bad but certainly the least flavorful when i expected it would be more flavorable kind of character but yeah this was very fun uh yeah laughed a lot a lot of good gags a lot of fun weird i do like the idea that he could fit on mini me's shoulders too that was very funny uh we got us a
for a shadow gag as well,
baby's arm holding an apple.
Yep.
Yeah.
And the curtain.
Oh, the verbal reference,
but then also seeing it was also funny
because they reprised the thing
from the last movie.
Exactly.
So, yeah, a lot of, yeah, nice callbacks,
I thought, still continuing
the solid production values
that we've come to expect out of the franchise.
I like that this one was especially
sort of globe trotting.
We got some time travel.
We're in the 70s.
We're in Japan.
were in a submarine layer,
you know,
this story with Scott
and Dr. Evil is evolving.
All that stuff is really fun.
I thought the characters
they chose to keep coming back
were well placed and whatnot.
It's always a joy to have Basil
and there wasn't a lot of number two,
but even he, I was happy to see anyway.
And, yeah, as a three-quel,
as far as like the part three
of a comedy franchise goes,
I thought this went pretty dang well
because, you know,
not every comedy franchise,
we don't really even have them anymore.
but yeah to get to this point to have three what i would consider to be you know if this is your vibe
three very solid installments of that vibe uh you know not bad j roach and mike myers you know
they did good with this one and i liked it for the fact that one we get to see austin doing the most
spot stuff i think out of any of them and the fact that this was vastly different from the first two
i appreciate it for that yeah it's it's different it's like yeah it clearly is part of that it's not
like doing anything drastic to like mess with what you want out of it but it's also yeah it's like
just enough of an evolution and it's jam packed with stuff and there are some really inspired moments
that i think work because of what came before but also because of what was happening in culture at
the time like there's stuff that's like kind of neat in response to what we've done with austin powers
before and that opens the door then to having a whole bunch of other surprises and things and so yeah
it really feels like they threw a bunch of things and ideas into this
movie and a lot of them were inspired so yeah and even though there's a lot of cultural references i
noticed that there was less even though it was still there there was less winking at the camera
yeah at the first day yeah even though we still did a couple of times like directly break the
fourth wall and wink into the camera yeah but i'm saying it was still there but i feel like it was
more prevalent in two yeah this was a blast gang thank you for joining us if you joined us leave
your favorite jokes down below what you thought a gold member what you thought of any and all
the things in austin powers in gold member and
And, hey, what are your wishes for an Austin Powers for?
Pitch it down in the comments.
We'll catch on the next one.
Be groovy, baby, and stay Randy out there.
O behave.
O'Bade.
Don't get the clapman.
