Has anybody got anything else to say before we do?
Quiet, let's quiet, go!
Oh, gang, it's good to be back in the dojo.
Yes.
We got some stuff to talk about.
Yes, we do, Johnny Tio.
But before we do that, it's good.
If you guys could leave us a rating on Apple or Spotify, that would be very much appreciated.
I think five stars is a great place to start, but you know, you can make your own decisions.
Gang, gang, Gregory, how are you feeling?
Feeling good?
Mm-hmm.
Yeah, why do you ask?
Is life okay?
Yeah, life's good, man.
Everything okay would you do?
Did you eat today?
Did you get some exercise today?
I did, I did.
All right, cool.
It's a little bloated, but I'm good.
No, you look, you look, Svel.
What did you think of the cobra Kai?
No, that was good.
Was he good?
Yeah.
Solid start.
Um, kicking off with character arcs right away.
Normally you have to wait a while for sure.
Yeah, fair.
And this episode alone had like three character arcs.
Or like four or something?
You had, you had, uh, the, I mean, I felt, I feel like, uh, Tori and Sam will get into a conflict again.
There's more to work through, but the journey progression happens so quick.
And that was, uh, lightning to see.
Kenny, a really obvious one as well.
Um, starting off right away with penis breath.
And then, uh, you know, with that moment was, because you, you kind of got used to a formula after so many seasons of Cobra Kai of how things would play out.
Like that, that ending's moment reminded me of a moment in season five, the moment when, um, uh, Johnny, Ralph Machio shows up to Johnny's place and he's like threatening him and then Johnny stops and he's like, what are you doing, man?
Like when you think they're going to fight again?
Yeah.
It just like calms him down.
Like that was such an unexpected moment of alleviating tension and bringing calamity to such a fraught moment.
And I feel like that whole thing, watching the flipperoo with like both of them coming to a point of conceding and realizing like name is just a name and there's something so much bigger than that.
Yeah, we're fighting for our own personal pride rather than the mission.
I thought that was beautiful.
I thought this was a really great first episode of the season.
I thought it was a really great start.
And now I'm just waiting for it to have personal stakes.
I think it's one of the strengths of seasons like two through five is they start off with a great personal villain right away.
The stakes are already immediately set and they're not aware of crease.
It's like they have the tournament, which is just this large thing.
And yes, there's purpose to it.
Now it's like I want to get to the personal stakes now.
But in terms of like protagonist setup, good start, good start.
Absolutely. Andrew.
You know me.
Terrible episode.
We didn't get Thomasian Griffith.
We know Terry Silver.
So obviously I hate now.
We didn't get Mike Barnes
Yeah, we're Mike Barnes
No, no, I really enjoyed the episode
Before I get into it
A couple of the references
That I called him out
As they were happening
We got Robbie where he gets shot by the laser
That was just like Ralph Machio,
Daniel getting shot by the laser
By Elizabeth Chu
When he was begging forgiveness
From Ali with an eye
At golf and stuff, same thing
And then also too
We got Sato hitting the wood
As Miyagi was talking to him
And then, you know, a Miyagi do member
talking to Sato and then also too with Daniel talking to Sato's nephew chosen. So same kind of thing
there. There's the reference there. Also, we got a reference again from our boy Stingray. It's
thrown down. By the way, I can't believe I got to mention this that you people took us very
serious. So we do love you that in the last reaction of season five, episode 10, you thought John
and I were being serious about the come with me if you want to live. We said total recall on
end of days you took us seriously. We know it's Terminator and Terminator 2. But our boy Stingray here.
They're still harping on that.
It's two hours ago.
It's a rock movie.
Stingray meant, yeah, we knew it was Terminator 1 and 2, but Stingray mentions the film.
It's true lies, man.
Okay, sorry, yes, sorry.
He mentions the film Revenge of the Nerds, which came out in 1984 the same year as the karate kid, the original.
Also, too, in I believe it was Season 2, episode 3, we see that they have that whole performance at the Valley Fest,
which was very reminiscent of the ending of Revenge of the Nerds versus.
is the alpha betas.
So I like that they threw back
to the Revenge of Nerds.
And that's also where Stingray learned
wanted to become a Cobra Chi member
at Valley Fest.
So I love how he threw shade
its very meta reference by Stingray.
What I thought about the episode.
I really enjoyed it.
You know, the entire show
is all about redemption and forgiveness.
So I thought like this show was,
this episode rather,
was very on par.
One little thing.
And again,
I do appreciate how much Robbie loves
and cares for Kenny that's like his little brother.
And, you know, he takes...
But he should have just kicked his ass.
No, no.
Yes, of course, John.
No, and I totally understand where he's coming from, and I respect that.
And I do think a little bit was forced on in terms of the double date and also trying to get Kenny.
Like, you know, I think a little bit was for...
And what I'm trying to get at is a little bit was forced.
Like, he just wanted to be left alone, needed a little cooling space.
And I don't know what the passage of time exactly was.
But I do love that and appreciate that Robbie does care enough, like, was willing to own.
up to, hey, I shouldn't have brought this kid aboard such a toxic environment like Cobra
Kai. And I'm trying to own up to my past and my mistakes. And I want to, you know, take him
on the righteous path with Miyagi Doe. So I did appreciate that. I just think it was a little bit
forced in terms of with the double date with Sam and Tori and then also with Kenny. But I'm
glad it was all resolved very quickly. I did think that was all great. The character development
that happened rather quickly was good. It didn't feel forced, even though it felt forced.
in terms of like what they were trying to do in terms of Robbie but I did appreciate like
how much he loves and cares for Kenny um what do you mean by forced exactly what I mean by
forced is uh which aspect is well what I mean by forced is uh basically I just thought that they
were trying too hard to do it like just leave him to make Robbie like try and no no no I just
mean like Robbie was just trying too hard with Kenny like just let him let dude he's he's
he's gonna come on your side just leave him a little bit.
breathing room. I don't think you need to, like, get on him so much. So you're not saying the writing
was forced? You're saying the character choice of Robbie was coming on strong. Yeah, I just think
it was a little bit strong. But again, I still appreciate how much he loves and cares for Kenny as a
little brother. And I still like the outcome, obviously, because I do want Kenny and Miyagi
do, of course. But having said that, I did love that scene with Sean, because we know Sean is, you know,
was very scary and juvie, beat the shit out of Robbie quite a bit there. So that's,
I thought that was a great moment.
Obviously, we do know he did go to Juvie for Kenney.
He was protecting, you know, his little brother.
So I thought that was a great, you know, character moment for him.
Some good development just showing like, hey, like this is why these guys are doing this.
Like, and Terry Silver was poison.
And like, this is why you need to see it this way.
So I do appreciate that he was trying to show him the light, you know, in terms of Miyagi
Don and why these guys are doing that.
So, you know, that kind of made me forgive a little bit of the forced aspect in my mind there.
So, but again, I really did dig the up.
episode. I want to take a quick moment to thank today's sponsor Acorns. I first heard about this

johnson yeah i mean coming out of the previous season i feel like it's already been an established
thread that robbie is is attempting to he brings it back up literally in this you know in the scene
where they're in the arcade that you know i'm trying to let you know or trying to help you get on a
better path um i mean yeah it's one of those things where there is like a lot happening in a
premiere but uh but yeah overall i i personally just just removed from any specific you know
thread to debate, you know, like, yeah, I thought this was a terrific season opener.
And it's exemplary of one of my favorite aspects of the show because there's so much about
Karate Kid that you could easily harken back to and not really have to try that hard on the writing
to make us feel a warm and fuzzy about and make us care about because we already have associations.
But when the show is in its best, I feel like they're often making these choices where they're not
spinning their wheels too much and they are just confronting conflict head on.
And yeah, I mean, like in one sense, I could see how.
you might imagine that like it's the most personal we've ever got with the brother which i love
that scene i thought was like a really great choice because at first you know kenny is always
dangling on the razor's edge of like you know it seems like just one too many bad mentors
could it be all it takes to like fully clinch you know this decision for his life uh so yeah
like that scene between him and his brother i thought was a nice turn around and something that like
yeah we're not going to solve this you know in a confrontation at the golf
and stuff, but, like, now that we've had some time to cool down, let off some steam,
now that we've gotten some of the physical, like, you know, throughout the show,
there's been this threat of, like, sometimes you have to have the physical fight to get
just the angst out of your body, and then you can kind of think a little bit and rationalize
a little bit more, and I really like that question, because it's one that so many of the
characters have had to answer is, yeah, what kind of person, man, or otherwise, do you want
to be, because you're getting to that point, that age where you are choosing, whether you
like it or not and also those the choice of who you decide to become is going to matter yeah in a
concrete kind of way and uh they all had to choose that to some degree and i thought it was yeah a nicely
you know rounded episode in terms of theme yeah no i think uh just to get my point a little more across
again well i i he did try uh to get kenny to the right side which he did i think like doing it
three or four times at once at golf and stuff was a bit much i think if you would have just
had one conversation and then they get into the
Brawley fight. I think, yeah. Yeah, exactly. That I think I would have been
but, you know, to be fair to the writers,
Robbie has been trying since the past season to get Kenny to see the light,
so to speak. So I guess I should be a little more forgiving and not be, you know,
so, so crazy here with my point that I'm getting with.
It sounds like you're trying to force criticism.
Craig, what point are you trying to make here, Craig?
No, but I mean, it just, like I said, three or four times
one day when the kid's just trying to play some video games like just let him have some steam
and and cool off is all I'm saying one time totally fine they needed this crossroads to move a couple
of plot lines ahead I get that no no no fair enough for Tori and Sam and all the I just think
if he would have had the one conversation and then they got into the fight and then Sean has the
conversation I think that would have been sure a little bit but yeah I get it you make a good
considered for for uh uh yeah the kickoff to a season this was really terrific yeah it was a great
episode and yeah still good acting still you know spirited you know that cobra kai camp but also that
earnest sense of heart and all that stuff we're going to talk a lot more about this as the show goes on
we got another episode to hop into so leave us your thoughts on episode one and uh yeah we'll catch you on
the next one very excited and uh yeah some kind of senseae-esque sign-off and insert that here
