Starting point is 00:01:11 More on them in just a bit. I think it's time, guys. Let's do this thing. Not B-A-D, gang. we just watched season six episode 11 we are back on course to finish the tournament if you're listening to this on Apple or Spotify please leave us a five star rating and whatnot
Starting point is 00:01:42 also cool T's like all of these as well as our new Richards Road Reed's Road is it Richards Road or Reed's Road Greg I'm not a true real reject Richards Road as well as the spider verse inspired shirts why do you sound like Nicholas Cage
Starting point is 00:02:02 when you say you that I have to go to the page every time to read the names I will commit them to memory but they're really great and and they're designed in house so it's a lovely way to support the channel if you so desire and have the means but gang guys
Starting point is 00:02:17 gay hey all right oh okay so I get all ten minutes I guess so G we'll let the maestro charge up here what do you think uh i thought it was a really good episode i think it's a great start i prefer this start compared to the starts of part one and part two i've it's watching those was an interesting experience because i wasn't a huge fan of part one i like the last half of part one uh significantly more and then part two on the rewatch did show like what i was telling the guys right before we
Starting point is 00:02:49 filmed of like i really do like this season a lot i do i still feel like overall from those 10 episodes, I would consider it one of the weaker seasons. Overall, even it's a strange thing to say, because you still really like something, but be like, but if I'm going to rank this, it would be towards the bottom. And the reason being is because I really feel like this show has been so much about emotionality, character development, humor, family, heart, all those things. And then action comes along with that. And then the action scenes really support that. Whereas with here in this season it seemed like there's like a crap ton of action with some like manufactured drama some of the drama really works some of the drama really hits hard and then other parts of the drama was
Starting point is 00:03:36 feeling like a little bit forced some of that though now that we are part three where I was feeling like it was manufactured drama or a little bit forced to get us to this episode and to see where this one's taken off especially with this one month later break especially after the death of kwan symbolizing the that legacy of kobra kai and how dangerous it is um i feel like it's already made it's already made in retrospect some of those aspects that i wasn't a big fan of a little bit better i think kicking this off with a part the the the things with the other part one debuts or like the first episode of those parts felt um uh like they were a a little bit rushed or starting over in some way you know right because there's a new start and here this felt like now
Starting point is 00:04:21 It took its time. It was dramatically impactful while having some payoffs and instant character development. I thought this was a really strong start. And I like when I'm like, okay, this is actually already improving upon some aspects
Starting point is 00:04:39 that I wasn't as huge of a fan of. And I know when you try to point that out, that sounds like you don't like, but I was like, I really enjoyed my rewatch. I did. I really enjoyed it. I knew it. But I feel like this could be
Starting point is 00:04:51 a really strong way to go out. And I'm enjoying the character. I don't know how it's going to end. No one does yet. So I'm just excited to see what happens moving forward. I think this is a really, really great start. Absolute vodka. Andrew Gordon.
Starting point is 00:05:08 I will agree with everything Greg just said. I hated season six, part one and two as well. No, no, I agree with them. But having said that this reminded me a lot of season three, episode one, in terms of we are dealing with the aftermath, the ramifications of the consequences of the, uh, what just happened in regards
Starting point is 00:05:28 to season two finale, you got Miguel going off the balcony and then dealing with the aftermath and the ramifications of that. And then obviously in this with Kwan's death. And I like that as much as it's an ensemble piece or the show has really turned even more so into an ensemble piece, uh, piece the, you know, with all the cast of characters, which I love. I love basically every character minus a lot of Demetri in the season. But having said that, I like that we stuck to the basics in terms of just focusing on, you know, Terry. We focused on Creece. I guess you can say Kim Dion as well.
Starting point is 00:06:04 And Daniel and John. Yeah, yeah. But I'm talking about the main core from the main trilogy. Sure. And Johnny and Daniel. And obviously we did focus a little bit on Robbie and Samantha and Miguel as well, which I didn't mind. but I like that we, I think Greg made a great point about this episode really took its time on focusing on the emotional impact on just what they're going through and what they're dealing with. Yes, I love a good action sequence as much as anyone as much as these two, but I like that that's what we were dealing with in this episode, which is going to pay off nicely when we do get to wherever the Sakai Takai and we do get those action sequences.
Starting point is 00:06:43 But just really quickly, I know we only have a few minutes, but the things that I did, like, again, just really seeing Daniel's shattered view of Miyagi, like no bonds. eyes everywhere. And then, or anywhere, rather, in the dealership, like, it's just interesting to see because he worshipped the ground that Miyagi walked on. And now to see this view of him, it's, it's rather interesting, but sad at the same time. Obviously, we have an idea that he's probably going to have a better view of Miyagi by the end of the season, most likely, we'll see. And then also, like, he's got a little bit of a controlling factor in terms of like, and I get it. He wants his daughter to be close to him. So I like this theme of learning to let go. He's got to let his daughter walk her own path, just like Miyagi let him walk his own path. So it's sad to see he's
Starting point is 00:07:28 not understanding that the symbolism there, but he will see that. And I like that his wife, like that's what a nice relationship, a healthy relationship is, is like seeing those kinds of things, seeing a little bit of the air of your ways when you misstep a little bit. So I like that. In regards to Johnny, I like the arc of he's finally becoming the bigger man. And also I like when Robbie and Carmen know enough to like hold him back when he's about to go off the rails. So, um, but to have that conversation with him and also I know I make a million predictions where I'm usually wrong, but it was nice to actually be right once, uh, this time where he, because it made no sense for him to just be at the hospital unless he could foresee two
Starting point is 00:08:06 seasons ahead and know, I'm going to need this in the back pocket of my mind for Johnny to feel sympathy for me for this hospital scene to come through. So what a diabolical twist. Yeah, I mean, you never, you never know that I would not, I would not put that past Terry Silver, but, um, And again, his master manipulation, I always love the writing with Terry. Whether it's a good episode or not, you put Terry Silver in there and give me master manipulation, Terry Silver, I'm always happy. Also, too, I thought the stuff, again, when we're dealing with the ramifications, last thing I'll say, then I'll let you guys go.
Starting point is 00:08:35 I thought it was really interesting seeing just the one scene we got with Gunther, the Iceland coach from D2, the Mighty Ducks, the guy who's in charge of the Sakai Takai. Yeah, he was being manipulated, but again, looking at it from his perspective, is this how you, because a lot of the theme of the episode, too, is about, legacy. It's like, is this how you want to finish with the Sakai Takaya where a kid died on your watch and this is how it ends? And you were in charge of this. So yeah, he was manipulating him, but it's like, I don't think this is how you would want it to end. So I like again that it's all a matter of perspective and, you know, putting yourself in not looking at
Starting point is 00:09:10 it through the black and white, put it, you know, in that gray area. And I liked from that perspective. I'd like to talk more, but I know we're on a little bit of time jump here. So go ahead. Jay, what did you think? All right, I'll admit it. And maybe you guys have noticed during the holidays, I let myself go a little bit. I put on some weight, and for the past 10 days, I have successfully been in a caloric deficit. This whole new eating regimen, so staying extra hydrated has been quite crucial for me lately. So while I've been drinking tons of water, I've also been incorporating today's sponsor again, a product I have already been using since before we partner with them, Liquid Ivy. So here's why I've been leaning on their sugar-free hydration
Starting point is 00:09:47 multiplier. One stick in 16 ounces of water hydrates better than water alone. It's powered by their LIV hydroscience formula, which delivers three times the electrolytes of the leading sports drinks, packed with essential vitamins like B12 and vitamin C, giving me that extra boost to support recovery and energy levels. And the flavors, honestly, they're incredible, and sometimes I just mix them with my protein shakes, or I just drink them on their own. Everyone I've tried is refreshing, smooth, and doesn't have that overly sweet aftertaste you get with some other products. All in all, I'm very grateful for liquid IV. Again, I've already been using their product. While this is yes and agreed upon endorsement, I was like, well, it's a no-brainer to endorse them,
Starting point is 00:10:21 considering how much benefits I feel when I use their product. It's made staying hydrated so much easier. So whether you're working out or cutting calories, or just pushing through a busy day and don't want to take caffeine. It's one of the quickest, simplest ways to give your body what it needs to feel its best. So like, even if you're not on a strict diet or intense workout plan, staying properly hydrated, supports energy levels, focus, and just overall wellness. I mean, let's face it, we could all use a little bit more balance in our lives. So if you've been thinking about trying it, or even if you haven't, take this as a sign. The fact that you made it this far, take it as a sign.
Starting point is 00:10:51 Head to Liquidiv.com and use code Rejects for 20% off your first order. That's 20% off when you use code Rejects at LiquidIV. Give it a try. Made such a difference for me, and I think it will for you too. Thank you again, Liquid Ivy. Reject Nation, how are you feeling? I've been thinking a lot about feelings lately. Maybe because it's New Year's and New Year's resolutions, they can be tough to stick to, don't you know?
Starting point is 00:11:13 I can't count how many times I've set a goal only to let it fizzle. by February. But what if some of those goals could be made automatic? You just need a good transition to talk about it. And you know what? I'm excited to talk about it. And it's today's sponsor Acorns. Why I'm excited? Because I personally use Acorns myself. So it's exciting just to share it with all of you. Because they make it incredibly easy to start automatically saving and investing. So your money has a chance to grow. You know, you've always heard that forever. Have your money worked for you. And this is a great opportunity to do it. Here's what was told to me before I signed up and I found it to be absolutely true. Number one, you don't need to be.
Starting point is 00:11:46 be an expert. They recommend a diverse portfolio that fits your goals. You don't need a ton of money. You can start investing with as little as $5 or whatever spare change you got. And it's quick. You can set up your account and start investing in like five minutes. Because if you're anything like me, investing always felt intimidating. I felt like it was exclusive for like the people who had Rich Dad pourdown when they were like two years old. But Acorns, they made it simple. And it is pretty cool, like relief feeling how every month I get to check out my Acorn's account. Watch it grow for a better financial future. It's pretty awesome. So I've seen firsthand how powerful it can be. And there's also another reject here. Won't say who it is, but it's one of the
Starting point is 00:12:21 two women. Good clue. Where they were telling me a story before I signed up for Acorns, how one time it actually got them out of a very big financial bind. And that always stuck with me. Because it's a reminder that small actions we take today can make a huge difference down the line. If you've been thinking about getting started with investing or you just know you got to get it going. Here's your sign right now. You had to Acorns.com slash rejects or dial on the Acorns app to start saving and investing for your future today once again acorns.com slash rejects supporting them supports the channel but more importantly it supports your bank account because of the subject matter there's one thing I got to say pain on client endorsement compensation provides incentive to positively promote
Starting point is 00:12:55 acorns tier one compensation provided investing involves risk acorns advisor LLC and scec registered investment advisor view important disclosure is acorns dot com slash reex thank you again acorns for sponsoring this video uh yeah no I would echo everything you guys said and I really like the way that this episode honed in on trust as well and the sort of shared fragility of the fact that everybody has to agree to this and everybody has to kind of go through their coping mechanism and figure out how and why they might want to go back and uh yeah like you know the first chunk of this season felt like it could have used a few more episodes or something like that in the middle chunk of the season felt pretty decently rounded uh but this at least as an outset i would
Starting point is 00:13:34 absolutely agree with that sentiment that like this feels very natural and this feels like it has you know, crested out of a more natural trajectory than what has actually come before it as of just this season six. And yeah, I really like that scene where they all kind of sit down and have to debate, you know, the sort of like, can we ever trust anything Terry Silver brings to us? And, and, you know, you get probably as close to a genuine moment with him in the present that you possibly could and yeah it's it's you still don't trust and you still are like I don't know about this but yeah with that home field advantage of like we can choose everything and it gives you this glimpse like I don't expect Terry it like it's like Daniel said anything gets hard he's going to be a threat at the same
Starting point is 00:14:22 time it does sort of create this moment where I wonder maybe could this be the time where he actually maybe tries to fight honorably because I think when you're in that position and you're facing mortality. You just know what the truth is. And there's a different kind of truth when you know that you rigged something versus when you know you just earned it. And he is in the being like, we are the best and I want to prove that. You know, like I'm confident we will win anyway. And to balance that off of crease being like, hey, I'm finally getting some perspective in my life and realizing that, yeah, yeah, I can't dedicate all of my being to this no mercy rule. I can't treat everything like it's the war, even though that has helped me survive for so
Starting point is 00:15:03 long and it makes for a really interesting question mark for him too so like the main villains the major villains now i'm sitting here with expectations for them to at least fall back into their old ways before the end because every revelation every epiphany comes with a debate period where you try to integrate it into your actual you know motivation into your being and sometimes it's hard you know you got to grapple with your shadow still but it made for a very compelling outset to this for them especially, not to mention, you know, Danny, Johnny, everybody else. Just one really quick thing I want to say. I think the Iron Dragons are not just the best or the best of the best. And also, too, yes, sir. Number two, I just want to say, I know Johnny, or John
Starting point is 00:15:48 Crease rather said the line, like, I've always been the bad guy. I'm like, I would disagree with him there in season three when we saw the flashbacks of him in the Vietnam War. He actually was a good guy. And when he was working in the, you know, in that diner in the restaurant, whatever, he actually was a good guy like he always tried to help people and that kind of thing like the war changed him and that Turner guy which I like that callback
Starting point is 00:16:06 in the flashback to that he trained that's how he learned about Kim Sun Young that's where I would say he you know that's where he changed his ways and learned the way of the fist and like that corrupted his mind so I don't know I have not always viewed John Crease as a bad guy you know I would say
Starting point is 00:16:22 like he was good and he lost his his fiancee and you know the war changed him and that's where he like that hardened him up into what he has become maybe he can find somewhere that spirit before it got so beat down yeah so yeah altered by all yeah but that's why i love season three so much because i'm like oh my god i never thought i'd see this side of crease this is incredible like this is why he became who he became what's the woman's name again kim dion kim dion it's really interesting how to handle that
Starting point is 00:16:50 because from part two it looked like she was going to be going down the exact opposite path of her grandfather and maybe she can still teach the dojo differently but once you kill your grandfather that's like a i don't know if this show has any real acknowledgement of psychological repercussions and what's funny the the man she slept with in part two chosen he almost uh killed the kumiko in karate kid part two so it's like now they can maybe kill someone and that is true you tied it in thanks and well and to that to that point about her like like there is that question too of like clearly there has been abuse and clearly she is not in a good place like with how his how he runs his dojo clearly it seems like she would want
Starting point is 00:17:40 to do something different but she's still her granddaughter's grand her grandfather's granddaughter and some of that even if it is altered or you know filtered through her perspective will still be there some of that harshness some of that elite you know pushing well past the line tendency we'll probably still be there. And it also, again, makes for an interesting question mark of where she'll go and how deep into dishonor, perhaps, or cut-throatness or no merciness, she will, you know, be willing to go, given, you know, those traumatic memories. We flash back to her as a little girl.
Starting point is 00:18:14 Like, again, these two characters have that youth element of like, this is when I was still maybe somewhat pure and maybe still had, you know, my, I wasn't quite as beaten and battered. and shaped by all these crazy circumstances can we get back there or are you just going to always be doomed to sort of split the difference somewhere in between. But yeah, any more stray thoughts?
Starting point is 00:18:37 Let's move on to episode 12. Thank you guys for joining us. Leave your thoughts down in the comments below and yeah, let's do this thing. Sakai Tai Kai! Kadija Sims or Kadikha. Now are we say it. We're going to do our best to guess
Starting point is 00:18:55 what khadi ha means right now all right all right um john you go first i am going to guess that this means uh beloved uh chosen uh uh uh ambassador okay i'm gonna guess killer of the night cool yours is way cooler here we go cadija name meaning enter uh no i just there we go there we go there we go it's an arabic name are you ready are you ready are you ready for some facts. It's a name for girls. She's a girl. Wow. Wow. Okay.
Starting point is 00:19:34 That means early baby, trustworthy or respected. It can also mean foremost elder, the first one. It's very primordial. It's very, you know, you're the sourdough starter. What did you guess? What did I guess?
Starting point is 00:19:50 I was so lost in the moment. Chosen, beloved. ambassador so you win john you're closer you're closer on here i guess so okay so you're you're definitely uh you're you're you're you're three for three right now all right i love your teddy bear in your thingy too and your profile pick it's cool
